Azirafel/Andrés Rafel (Carlos areces). Maricona de pueblo de toda la vida, dice "reina", "hija", y "mi vida" a todo el mundo. Y todo el mundo asume que es del sur. Cita mucho a Neruda. Le regalas una cajita de torreznos/morcilla/chorizo y es feliz.

Sierpe/Antonio Serra (Luis Zahera). Imagínatelo con un palillo en la boca, cadenas de oro, anillos de oro, y pantalones de cuero. Dice "maricón" como tú dices "colega". Te saluda palpándote el culo. Solo escucha a Joaquín Sabina y Bunbury.

Sargento Salgado (Ricardo Arroyo). Vive de campurrianas y galletas María, principalmente. Asturiano. Es tan viejo que no dice "marica", no, dice "bujarrón", y lo dice generosamente. Su mejor amigo es un tetrabrick de Don Simón. Cree que "hereje" es un insulto.

Madame Tracy (pero en realidad se llama María Teresa) (Loles León). Comienza casi todas sus frases con "¡HUY!" o "PUES". Se viste medio de folclórica y colecciona baldosas decorativas con frases tópicas. Sirve Colacao en todas sus sesiones. Muy buena onda gay.

The vivid Technicolor imagination of Pedro Almodóvar doesn't serve him as well in Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! as it did in his immediately previous hit film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988). This film feels rather like an uneasy mashup of a romantic comedy and a bondage porno. Actually, "porno" is too strong a word, for even though Tie Me Up! received an NC-17 rating on its release in the United States, there's very little in it that can't be streamed any night on television. The most explicit scenes involve Marina (Victoria Abril) taking a bath with a mechanical tub toy shaped like a frogman that nuzzles into her private parts -- a scene that's more funny than erotic -- and an extended sex scene with Marina and Ricky (Antonio Banderas) that's undeniably erotic but not especially revealing -- it mainly shows their upper bodies, except for an overhead shot that reveals Banderas's posterior. What's more objectionable -- especially in the context of today's dialogue about rape and sexual harassment -- is the film's central plot premise: Ricky, who has just been released from a mental institution (whose director and nurses he has been happily bedding), kidnaps film star Marina, whom he once picked up and had sex with during an escape from the institution. In the course of trying to make Marina fall in love with him, Ricky keeps her tied up. Eventually, she finds herself falling in love with him, and the film ends with Ricky going off to live with her and her family. It can be argued that the premise is freighted with irony: Ricky's attempt to win Marina leads to his being severely beaten by the drug dealers he goes to see to procure something to relieve her toothache and other pains -- as a recovering drug addict, Marina finds almost any painkiller short of morphine ineffective. The kidnapper gets a measure of punishment for his misdeed, in other words. But the film's unsteady tone and the somewhat pat "happy ending" don't overcome the essentially distasteful sexual politics of the premise. Though it's a misfire, the movie gets good performances out of Banderas and Abril, as well as Loles León as Marina's exasperated sister, Lola, and Francisco Rabal as Marina's director, desperately trying to control the chaotic production of what may be his last film.

Synopsis

The Circus of Bárbara Rey and Ángel Cristo becomes the fashion show; a million dollar business money, fame, luxury…

Nine years of relationship in which Spain witnessed the happiness of the couple: the birth of Angelito and Sofía, the purchase of sports cars, jewelry, an ostentatious villa in La Moraleja… Far from the flashes, however, there is an escalation of drug addiction, gambling, infidelity and abuse...

And, in the background, the shadow of Barbara's relationship with Juan Carlos I (she was the king's lover between 1976 and 1994)

Belén Cuesta as Bárbara Rey (Totana, Murcia, 2th February 1950-), artistic name of María García García, daughter of Andrés García Valenzuela and Salvadora García Molina. She firstly started her career as a dancer, but then she became an actress, vedette & tv presenter on theatres, cinema and tv shows, and during her marriage with Ángel Cristo she became an elephant tamer.

Jaime Lorente as Ángel Cristo (Huelva, Andalucía, 17th October 1944- Alcorcón, Madrid, 4th May 2010), artistic name of Ángel Papadopoulos Dordid, son of Christoforo Papadopoulos Stanovich a Greek of Romani descent trapeze artist and the Spanish contortionist Margarita Dordid. They were a family of famous circus performers. Christoforo's brother, Miro who owned the Circus Florida, married also a woman from Málaga called Canela Remedios Vaquero and has 8 children together, some of them became very famous, like their eldest daughter, María del Pino Papadopoulos Vázquez known as "Miss Mara" who became an internationally famous trapeze artist and some of her brothers formed a group of phonanbulists called "Tonitos".

Ángel he received the Gold Medal of the International Circus Festival in 1982 and founded his own circus, the Russian Circus.

Adriana Torrebejano as Chelo García Cortés, a queer journalist and tv presenter who had a brief love affair with Bárbara Rey in the 80's. Chelo was in a relationship with the tv journalist José Manuel Parada Rodríguez during those years but it's said that she came out of the closet because of Bárbara and then she ended up broking up with her partner.

Artur Busquets as Francisco Javier García-Ontiveros "Payasito" (Little Clown), Ángel's best friend and a member of the Russian Circus.
