Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason. <3
First fic: That Inspirational Stuff , a long Poe/Finn fic set after the Last Jedi where I tried to create the satisfying character arcs that the actual movies never would for Poe and Finn. It's funny that this is my first fic listed on Ao3 because the very first fanfic I ever wrote in my life was handwritten in a journal when I was 13, when I tried to imagine a sequel trilogy to the original SW trilogy.
Last fic: Here Comes the Bride, Ed/Stede and inspired by the S2 teaser.
Wrote once: I'm not sure how much this counts, but I wrote a Pacific Rim/OFMD crossover fic, lovers in a dangerous time, which is the only Pacific Rim fic I've ever written.
Favorite fic in biggest fandom: Not sure how to quantify biggest fandom, so I'll go with OFMD. My fav fic I've written for that is The World Beyond. I am proud of it because I wrote it as being post s1 in terms of where Ed and Stede's relationship was at while also being set in a dystopian cli-fi near future, and, now having seen the trailer and teaser, I kinda think I got the post s1 vibes right.
Fic I wish more people read: The Legend of the Gentleman and the Outlaw, by Lucius Spriggs (La Leyenda del Hidalgo y El Bandido, translated by Jim Jimenez), I just think it's neat. I tried to write it using the structure of Cloud Atlas and mostly succeeded. There's two chapters done in bird POV. And I particularly love Lucius's arc in it.
Fic I agonized over most: don't let me die with my soul in the air, my massive retelling of S1 and beyond from Ed's POV. Holee shit I agonised over this guy, especially S1E10 Ed. Rewatching his scenes in that episode was heartbreaking.
Fic that sprang fully formed: Mile High Club, I genuinely think I wrote this thing in like... two days? I had to get it out of my head via keyboard.
Fic I'm proud of: Runaway Effects, which I co-wrote with @petrichorca. It was my first ever collaboration and I think we made something really beautiful that I think about all the time.
tagging @petrichorca @elapsed-spiral @mxmollusca @emi--rose and anyone else who wants to join the fun!

NaNo Wrapup
((she says, disingenuously, as if she’s actually gotten stuff done this month))
...yeah, I didn’t XD I think I wrote all of five hundred words, if that. A lot more kept building in my brain but in situations where I could neither actively work on it nor jot down the highlights to remember later (most often when I was driving because Of Course that’s when Inspiration strikes lol)
I have actually figured out a few things, at least, just need to actually Get Things Written Down. I have some time off and no travel plans this month, plus the Liminal Space that is the last week of December tends to be very quiet at work so I’ll (hopefully) get some stuff down then. Part of what I’ve figured is a few more gaps filled in for The Other Battlestar (which still needs a better title; I will probably dive into Shakespeare to find something suitable, all of the mythological references I’m coming up with Do Not Suit); I’ve also worked out a list of possibilities for this year’s Star Wars Big Bang, which is starting up now (exciting!)
I didn’t really get any further on Incinctus. I joined a Castlevania creatives discord Ages ago, I should probably just. Like. Ask for someone to help beta/bounce ideas off of/whatever. Then I would probably unstick, lol.
So, yeah, that’s where things stand. I’m hoping to actually get some Stuff out later this month, but not really counting on it at this point. If the last couple weeks of the month go the way I’m hoping, though, I should have some things going up in January! That seems much likelier but we’ll see ::knocks on wood::
In terms of SWBB...well, I do generally appreciate feedback in terms of ‘what would y’all like to see from me’ when I’m torn between a few options, so, here’s what I have right now ((this is, of course, assuming nothing New jumps out at me before I have to Settle on something, lol)) Several of these are in fact BSG crossovers because that’s where a good chunk of my head is at and crossovers are allowed for the event.
List, along with some pros and cons, behind the cut.
Also, plug for my writing discord; and I’ll be around for an open question night if you guys are!
Crossover Option 1: Some subset of the Ghost crew, post-s4, ends up on Occupied Caprica during the Kobol arc (i.e., while Starbuck is there the first time)
Pros: This is one of the easier ones to keep self-limiting (meaning, I can have a Clear End Point and then separate the two storylines without derailing the future too much; that’s one of the harder things about plotting a BSG crossover, I’m finding. Unlike the ATLA crossover I wrote a year or two ago, it’s hard to keep these contained/reasonable, lol). Also it would focus a lot on Zeb (and, to a lesser extent, Kallus) and Zeb needs more love from fandom.
Cons: 95% of why I want to do this is to build up to/around a conversation between Zeb and Helo that I wrote a while back; I’m not really sure there’s enough here to sustain a long-form work. ...I mean, I am an Extremely Wordy Writer, lol, but still. Also I haven’t done a whole lot outside of self-indulgent RP with a friend involving the Ghost crew so I’m not 100% solid on doing them justice.
Crossover Option 2: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and possibly Rex and/or Padme end up on Kobol while the first landing party is there.
Pros: Another one that’s easy to keep self-limiting (by the time the SW half of things is able to get back there, the second landing party has come and gone; radically different hyperspace/FTL tech means reconnecting On Purpose is like finding a needle in a haystack). And there’s a lot of stuff I can do with Baltar and Anakin; and Anakin and Chief; and Visions and Head!Six. And possibly even keep Crashdown from spinning out and getting shot!
Cons: A lot of this would rely on Unsettling Vibes and Mysticism which is Not my strong suit.
Crossover Option 3: Either immediately after A Measure Of Salvation or during the skipped year, a Basestar and a Clone Wars-era capital ship (probably the Resolute) cross paths.
Pros: Clones and Cylons are a connection just waiting to happen; plus I can get some of the stuff I want out of the Head!People without adding the Kobol Vibes into the mix; I also have a few Cylon OCs I could throw in because Why Not.
Cons: That self-limiting problem is a Big One here. I also don’t write a whole lot of clones other than Rex, so...yeah, doing that connection justice isn’t easy.
Non-Crossover Option 1: actually using this as an excuse to finish our faces like a mirror the way I keep saying I could
Pros: I might actually finish this! I’m still really invested in my girl Bo-Katan and the way her relationship with her sister collapses.
Cons: That whole ‘I keep saying I could’ things is. Not an exaggeration, lol. I’ve been working on this off and on for like...five years? And still have a Long Way To Go.
Non-Crossover Option 2: Dive back into Devoted!verse; pick up either Padme or the Kryze sisters’ backstory, or Anakin and Ahsoka as kids; or possibly Bail and Breha.
Pros: I do want to get back to this AU, and there’s a lot to build on. I’m not sure Bail could support a BB-length story on his own the way the other options could, but I do love him. (Kryze sisters is the most likely at this point, because half a summary popped into my head, but I don’t. I don’t really have much beyond that, lol. Anakin and Ahsoka are a close second because I just have Feelings about Sibling Bonds.)
Cons: There’s a lot of white space to fill with any of these options, figuring out what I’m doing and getting it done in a way that I feel as satisfied with as the main story in this AU is going to be difficult.
Non-Crossover Option 3: Something Else I Haven’t Come Up With Yet.
Pros: Things pop into my head a lot and if I ride the wave when it does then it usually goes well??
Cons: Well. Sign-ups are technically starting, and I...don’t have the concept yet, lol.
...I think that’s about it! Thoughts, opinions? Unrelated questions? Let me know!
i guess this sort of turned into a coming attractions post lol so i’m not gonna do one on monday but here we are

love the atla sw crossover, wanted to suggest something w Katara and C-3PO, i think they'd get along well
ooh thank you!! and honestly I think you’re onto something here!!
Tumblr media
[C-3PO: Oh, Master Katara! Thank the Maker you're here!]
I feel like C-3PO does this thing where in any given scenario he latches onto the nearest authority figure, and the moment that person shows him any kind of respect, politeness or positive reinforcement he immediately loves them forever.
And Katara seems like the kind of person who would see this tall golden fellow with massive anxiety and just decide to be polite and respectful to him.

💫 so on your visions post you said star wars crosses over really well with anime in general. what existing anime do you think would crossover/AU best with sw? (i love your writing!)
OhohoooOOOOO!!! That is an EXCELLENT question, dear anon, and you have given me an excuse to go on about Star Wars and anime, two things I very much enjoy! (I mean I am still very much a basic newbie in the anime world, I’ve only been watching for a bit over a year now, so I’m still faaaar from any sort of expert, but I’m really into what I’ve seen so far!)
Actually, this ask would have to be divided up into 4 categories, as you’ve said crossover/AU, noting the “/”, and a crossover and an AU are two different things; X-overs are where there’s characters from two or more different media and some cross over into the other’s media and interact with one another (ex: a Star Trek/SW fic where the Starfleet ship’s warp drive fucks up and sends the ship into the GFFA and the Jedi there have to help them get home), while an AU, Alternate Universe, is usually just one media, and it’s using the setting of another media as its setting for an AU (i.e. a SW Pacific Rim AU where your Star Wars ship characters live in the PacRim world and are drift compatible and they fight kaiju together, but there’s no actual PacRim characters in the story).  This can also be divided into two further on whether we’re using the Star Wars universe for the crossover/AU setting or the other anime universe.
Now that that’s clarified, I’ve done some thinking and it’s time for my TEDtalk.  The post has gotten long again because it’s me and of course it has.  Read more to follow.
Best Anime for a Star Wars crossover, Star Wars setting:
I’d like to start off by acknowledging I know full well Avatar: The Last Airbender is not an anime, it’s a western cartoon, but its style comes from anime and also I just wanted to talk about how well it would work for a crossover (check out my friend @thenegoteator and her amazing sw/atla art!!!!).  Primarily I wanna see Aang connect with a new order of monks (who have NOT been wiped out yet) and Yoda can give him a hug.  Even more though, I want to see a Mandalorian try their whole “hur dur look at my superior armor whoopee” bit on Toph Beifong and promptly get their shit metalbended/metalbent?
OK BUT NOW ONTO ACTUAL ANIME xD
So rule of thumb is that when characters from another universe get sent into the GFFA, it almost, almost NEVER does them any favors.  You are effectively getting yeeted into a futuristic apocalyptic hellhole where the government ranges from inept overstretched corruption at best to genocidal totalitarianism at worst, also 1/100 people can kill you with their minds, you don’t know who, they usually all group together in one place but they’re also naturally drawn to whatever new trouble the galaxy is cooking up and right now, that trouble is you.
This being said, your best anime protagonist to therefore send into the SW universe are ones who are from an action/fighting anime so they can defend themselves, (usually) from a better world (if they’re from a worse one, they might be tempted to stay and make MORE problems/attempt to fix things).  They also need to be characters who know how to survive in this hellhole, which means being hypercompetent/good in a fight but also good at keeping your head down and knowing how to go unnoticeable and not start shit.  Therefore, a younger/child character might actually do better.  Also their best chances of survival are not running into any SW protagonists lol.  My main candidates are:
The main class from Assassination Classroom.  These kids are training as assassins, which means they are the best choice for “small, easily undetected, would be able to protect/look out for each other because they know how to work as a team”.  If they had their teacher with them, they’d be even more protected and safe.  They’d know how to stay on task and stay out of trouble to focus on getting back home safely.  My reservation is that these are like, normal 13 year olds who-- besides their teacher --come from a mainly normal modern-day Earth, or normal by anime standards.  Star Wars is wild and unpredictable dangerous, and I am very protective of these kiddos, and I don’t know if I could in good conscience send them over there when one of them could get killed, they are my children xD  The Jedi Order would look out for them if they found them tho!
The main trio from Jujutsu Kaisen.  Alright, these three may also come from a relatively “normal” modern-day Earth, but are mid-range teenagers with supernatural abilities, used to random shit trying to kill them in their job, so I don’t consider them as squishy.  Also yes between the three of them they do collectively share one (1) braincell, but they know how to work together, stay on target, have each other’s backs, and survive, so I trust them to keep each other in check to make it through and home.  Most importantly, without giving too much away, I’ve read the current manga arc they’re going through and I can confidently say that getting blindly tossed into the GFFA would be easier and less traumatizing an objective for them than what they’re dealing with right now in canon.  My reservation here is that bringing the JJK trio to the SW universe means bringing their, ah, accessories, with them, and like, for Nobara and Megumi that’s not a problem, it would actually help them.  But Yuuji...... the GFFA deserves a lot of things coming to it, ok.  Fucking Sukuna is not one of those things; bitch wouldn’t even kill anyone useful, he’d decide Palpatine was funny and leave him alive and then go and beat Anakin to the Jedi massacre just for shits and giggles.  I cannot in good conscience unleash him upon that galaxy.
The main boys from HunterxHunter.  Caveat that I have not seen the entire anime, but from what I’ve seen, I think they’d do just fine.  Yes these two are on the younger side of their teens.  However, they are also in the category of “my day job regularly consists of overpowered fuckos trying to kill my ass and I have powers to deal with this” so I am much less worried about them getting hurt than I am the AssClass kids.  They’re both intelligent, strong, and as kids, capable* of going unnoticed, and when they’re together, extremely hard to kill.  I know they’d know how to work together to find a way out.  My reservation comes through in which another part of the Survive The GFFA rules is “keep your head down and do not start shit”. I love Gon to death, I do, but that is not his MO, and Killua’s only subtle so long as shit hasn’t already hit the fan yet.  I can see these two being the most likely out of the anime candidates I’ve picked to get into trouble lmao. (**Capable doesn’t mean they’ll choose to do so lskdjfk)
Best Anime for a Star Wars crossover, Anime setting:
Okay so we’ve established that any main character from the GFFA, as a result of a lifetime submerged in its bullshit, is typically an overpowered weirdass with no chill to speak of.  Therefore, for best results, you should release them into an anime universe that is at least used to dramatic violent bullshit.  I’ve gone with:
Any SW protagonist into Cowboy Bebop.  (Again, I haven’t seen all of the anime).  This one I feel is kind of an easy pick, namely because it’s basically just sending the characters into another space adventure in a different galaxy.  Force users (for the most part, Anakin) know how to behave themselves in an area where there’s no other Force users, non-Force users are basically in the same situation as normal, so once they figured out the money system and so long as they don’t get into too much trouble if they’re pulled into Spike’s plotline, they should be just fine trying to find their way home.  I feel like either the Rebels crew or Din + baby would be really fun in this universe.
Any Jedi protagonist into Demon Slayer.  Look, with all of Lucas’s borrowings from Japanese culture for SW and Jed culture, sending a Jedi into early-20th century Japan where it’s being protected by swordsmen could be a really good match!  Like, between their sword skills and provided they can still connect to the Force in this universe, a Jedi given the right sword would do just fine as a demon slayer themselves.  Sending, like, post-ROTJ Luke and Leia in particular would be super fun because then we’d get to see DOUBLE the cool sibling vibes if they met the Kamados.  Also I wanna see Luke look around at nearly everyone and have a Crisis because what The Fuck I’m like 25-26 and almost all of you are younger than me what the HELL you’re all CHILDREN.  It would be even more jarring to send someone like, TCW-era Obi Wan there.
Anakin Skywalker into literally any sports anime OR slice-of-life anime.  Ok ok ok ok so I KNOW I said the best result for sticking a Star Wars protagonist in an anime setting is to pick an anime where the setting is at least a little bit violent so the character’s GFFA survival habits don’t make things difficult for them.  I’ve also never seen a sports anime or slice of anime in my life.  But I’ve been on Tumblr and read a bit of fic and like.  Just because the stakes for these kinds of animes usually aren’t life or death doesn’t mean that the stakes aren’t high or that the plots aren’t dramatic as hell.  They’re typically dramatic as hell, just in a comedy way.  And then take Anakin Skywalker’s dramatic ass and put him in a world where drama exists but the solution 99% of the time should not in any way involve extreme violence.  It’s just like, imagine an anime like Yuri on Ice or Ouran High School Host Club or something like those and you’ve got the main characters all worried about how they’re gonna win their next big sports thingy or get their crush to notice them or whatever conflict is typical for this universe-- and then there’s just fucking Anakin looming in the background, eyes glowing, all Do You Want Me To Kill That Guy For You I Will Totally Kill That Guy For You.
Best Anime, Anime characters in a Star Wars AU:
Honestly I feel picking out media to put in a Star Wars setting can be really difficult given just how weird the GFFA is, and given how distinctive and specific the entire concept of the Jedi is (and what is the POINT in putting your characters in a SW AU if you’re not gonna make them Jedi/Sith? /hj).  However, there is at least one anime I know for a fact would work almost perfectly in a Star Wars setting, as I know @jasontoddiefor, @binaryeclipse,  @obikinn and I have all talked about before lol
D.Gray-man.  *Slams hands on table* OK SO.  This anime would work so so so well in a SW setting omg.  There’s so many things that line up so neatly.  You’ve got your world that has a special religious order full of people who are born with a special ability to connect to the cosmic/spiritual entity that controls the universe.  You’ve got how this order’s prerogative is to go around the world sending their members to help people in need.  You’ve got the bad guys who ALSO have spiritual connections and their own powers that draw from it, who all follow one head bad guy as their teacher/leader.  These bad guys have gold eyes.  There’s the fact that you learn how to control your divine connection by training under an older more experienced member of the religious order.  It would be so easy to translate the plot and conflict of DGM over into a SW setting, make exorcists Jedi, make them go around trying to chase the Sith who keep turning people into monsters because blah blah handwave Dark Side(TM).  Like, Allen as a weird apprentice who was found and trained away from the Temple by a wildcard master and now he’s back and on missions but he’s weird.  The story would be so good.  My only issue with doing an AU like this is that in DGM, (uh, spoilers, lol), the religious order the protag and everyone come from, the Black Order?  Basically is everything Jedi-criticals think the Jedi Order is.  It’s actually Catholic (not a joke, they’re Catholic), it’s overcontrolling of its members, it plays politics, it’s totally down and fine with brainwashing and child abuse, it’s like, a whole group of exploited people trying their damnedest to do good with their gifts all while the higher ups don’t give a singular shit about any of them.  As I do not care to redeem the higher ups in any AU, in a Star Wars AU where the exorcists were Jedi it would also have to be one where the Jedi Order is corrupt and like, given how fandom unironically thinks this in regards to canon, I don’t know if I could smear the Jedi’s reputation like that.
Best Anime, Star Wars characters in an Anime AU:
our FINAL CATEGORY!!!  This is a question of having the Star Wars characters live in an anime universe, of which there are many to choose from.  I am not going to do that because there is exactly one anime I’ve had an AU brewing in my mind for in regards to our Star Wars characters and no good reason to infodump about it to anyone (though I did crack and dump some of it on Eli once but other than that no) but anon has enabled me so here I go! :D
Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood.  Am I in the slightest bit biased here because this is my favorite anime ever?  Maybe so xD  No but REALLY a FMA AU for Star Wars would be fantastic and my love for both has only helped me realize this in full.  Listen: SW and FMAB are unique in the way that I think they have the closest setting parallels, what with the whole background conflicts explainable by “i’m sorry there’s a fucking WHAT running the government?  Welp, that explains why we live in a genocidal totalitarian nightmare but also oh shit.”  There’s also how both universes have a thing where gifted individuals can draw from the cosmic energy that makes up the universe and turn it to great power-- what with the interesting caveat that in Fullmetal, doing so is a science while in Star Wars it’s treated much more like magic, and getting to explore that fuzzy dividing line is really fun.
What with how the Republic treated them in canon, it would be so much fun to write an AU where Jedi were an order of scientists put in the same tough position by the government, only to ultimately be declared as threats and unnecessary and nearly all got wiped out, and now alchemy itself is super rare unless it’s being used by the new even more corrupt government.  I’ve got this entire multigenerational AU in my head that would at heart center around Luke and Leia because the heart of any story involving FMA has to be the sibling relationship.  But yeah, Luke and Leia would be the young kids who make the terrible mistake, and now two limbs and a body short they’re on their journey to learn absolutely everything in order to fix it, all while a rebellion sparks into flame around them.  There would be the backstory into Anakin, how he becomes the mess he is, there would be Obi Wan’s that intertwined with his.  There would be the moments after where Luke and Leia are grown up and ugh, I have so much of this in my head, I’ve written bits and pieces out, but I don’t have any narrative strings that I could use to connect these random plot points together, also I’m just terrified to write in another universe.  Also also I’m a paranoid bitch and I’m worried everyone would just like, hate it, lol.
I almost told y’all that FMA wouldn’t work as well if I wrote the characters in a SW AU, but then I realized I just wasn’t thinking about it the right way.  Translating the Jedi over into alchemists is easy and doable, but translating the canonical alchemists into Jedi wouldn’t exactly work as well because being a Jedi isn’t easy and there’s a number of very good alchemist characters I can think of that hooo boy would NOT be very good Jedi lmao.  But then I realized I kept trying to cram the FMAB plotline into the Age of Republic, when if you think about it: the worst has already happened, they’re living in a dictatorship where the only way gifted individuals can survive and use their gifts is if they consent to be taught them by the government, and are then used as weapons.  That wouldn’t be the Republic in SW.  Nah, if I were to write a FMAB SW AU, I’d have to set it in the Empire.  The alchemists would start the story as Inquisitors.  That would be a fun AU to read/write, but I can’t do that because I don’t like or trust my characterizations of FMAB characters when I try to write them and therefore can’t write it.
Okayyyy so YEAH that was me talking your ear off on what you probaby thought was a very simple and straightforward question that I would answer in a few short paragraphs.  I apologize for the unexpected essay anon, but I really had a lot of fun thinking about these scenarios and ideas!  Kudos to literally anyone who put up with the entirety of this garbled ramble and read it all.  Feel free to talk to me in the notes and tell me what animes YOU think would AU or crossover well with Star Wars!
I’ll stop talking now

multifandom ask meme!
what was your first fandom? harry potter or star trek tos.  hp I went to the movies, went to a DH release party, and I remember when ootp was released.  trek, on the other hand, was the first fandom i was involved with online, starting with a ‘personal log’ from the perspective of doctor mccoy.  no, it’s no longer online.
what’s your most recent fandom?  community.  I recently finished the series and very much enjoyed the group’s dynamics.  It reminded me of my own group of friends, except with even more chaos.
are there any fandoms you joined without meaning to?  not really?  I watch/read something, I like it, I seek it out on the internet.  or I see something online, seek out the original source material, and then find more fandom stuff.
are there any fandoms you’ve wanted to join for a long time? I’ve got a ton of stuff that I just haven’t gotten around to watching yet.  ATLA, Anne with an E, Stranger Things, and The Witcher are all still on my Netflix for later list.  I am also looking to watch a few more ‘classic’ DCOMS - Lemonade Mouth, Avalon High, Cheetah Girls, and probably a few others/sequels.  As for actually joining new fandoms, I’d like to get into the X-Files fandom here soon.  My next episode to watch is the S2 finale.  Maybe we’ll start to see some action over @mulderandscullyfbi
do you have a fandom you wish you interacted with more? I’d love to be more involved with the Trek fandom again.  Star Trek was the first fandom I was involved with online and it was a great place for me as a young fangirl.  My first fics were all TOS with the triumvirate.  And, as stated above, TXF.
which fandom is your favorite to create fanworks for?  originally, I was all about Star Trek TOS.  Then, I discovered Rose Tyler/The Doctor.  Now I’m all about Zeddison.
are there any fandoms that you would never create fanworks for?  most sitcoms that I’ve watched.  Community, ODAAT, Arrested Development, anything with IRL people.  Someday, maybe.  (except for IRL)
which fandom do you have the most ideas for?  I don’t usually come up with my own ideas.  And again, it cycles.  Whichever fandom I’m currently invested in is the fandom I’m’ going to have ideas for.
do you prefer fandoms of tv shows, movies, books, or some other medium?  ...are any of them actually different?  fandom is fandom, no matter the medium.
do you wear merch for any fandoms? is it obvious merch (with the title/logo) or subtle (like the main character’s favorite backpack)?   so...I have a TARDIS backpack, a bunch of DW/Trek/SW/Marvel/HP shirts.  I used to wear them more frequently when I was in school, but now I’ve stopped bc I can’t wear them to work.
out of all your fandoms, which two would make the best crossover?  ooh...I don’t know.  I once wrote a HSM/Star Trek TOS crossover.  (sadly, this no longer exists.  I went through a cringe phase and deleted every copy; although nothing is ever really gone on the internet, I still can not find it.)
out of all your fandoms, which premise (plot/worldbuilding) is your favorite?  Doctor Who obviously has the most options for in-universe worldbuilding.  I can take anything I want and it’s probably a feasible option.
out of all your fandoms, which would you like to see adapted into a different medium? what medium?  I would love to see a Harry Potter tv series that follows all the subplots, showcases all the foreshadowing, and takes the time to develop everything properly.
recommend a fic from [insert fandom here].  go to any of my blogs /tagged/fic-rec
recommend a blogger from [insert fandom here].  oh god, that’s literally picking friends.  if I follow you, I recommend you.  heck, there are even people on this site I don’t follow whom I would rec for some fandoms.  tag tracking is where it’s at people
recommend a non-fic fanwork (fanart, fanvids, filk, etc) from [insert fandom here].  too many great ones and I don’t have the time to dive deep into my history
what’s your favorite trope from the fanworks of [insert fandom here]?  I’m just going to go for my main fandoms here.  Doctor/Rose - anything to do with Tentoo/Rose starting over in Pete’s World.  Zeddison - delicious height difference.  Trek - friendship between the triumvirate.  Basically anything to do with found family.
for [insert fandom here]: au, canon divergent, or canon compliant?  it honestly depends on my mood.  All have the potential to be great.  I think my favourite is canon compliant, to write anyways.
what’s your favorite au for [insert fandom here]?  The most common au I read by far is simply human!au.
name a song that reminds you of [insert fandom here].  Zeddison - Someday.  Doctor/Rose - Once Upon a Dream.  Trek - Phasors on Stun.
have you made any friends in [insert fandom here]? oh god, so many.  my zom fam.  the doctor/rose crowd.  and the sherlollians.  romiones.  literally if I follow you or you follow me, I’ve probably thought you and ‘friend’ in the same thought.
name two characters, from different fandoms, who you think would get along.  Abed Nadir and Data.
which fandom’s setting/world/time period would you like to live in?  nah.
if you could meet the characters of one fandom, which one would it be?  this time last year, I would have said ZOMBIES no hesitation.  two years ago, Doctor Who.  A few years before that, Star Trek.  I don’t think I could stick to one.
if you could take creative control of one fandom’s source material, to fix previous canon and decide future arcs as you see fit, which one would you choose? what would you change?  It would be nice to wade through all the crap JKR has (retroactively) put out there as source material and fix everything.  get rid of the plot holes, get rid of all the extraneous stuff  (Delphini who?)

Coming Attractions!
It is still technically the first Monday of the month in my timezone, so I'm not late XD
As always, this also means an Open Question Night--my askbox is always open, but tonight I'll be keeping an eye on it. Questions about anything I've posted about here or on AO3 are fair game; my current primary fandoms/heaviest brainrots are BSG, Les Mis, and Star Wars. I do take prompts, but no promises on how quickly I'll fill them.
So not a whole lot to say this month. Work got super busy last month so I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped, alas. This month is NaNo, and while I'm not doing an Official Project, I am shooting for 50k words in total on any projects.
Priorities are:
Catching up on the Year of the OTP backlog. I still have to do July for SW and BSG, and every month since for all five. ...also I don't think I crossposted the origfic stuff for July yet, whoops...I should do that.
P&J
Acheron
Getting a head start on SWBB
TOB
Keeping up with RF anniversary challenges (though that might overlap with the OTP meme fills for the original stuff, to be fair)
...so, yeah, that's the plan for this month. Although writing other things will also count, of course, it's any fiction (original or fanfic) I get down.
I do still have various other projects floating around (Precipice; miscellaneous crossovers; maybe some of the AtLA things I keep meaning to actually write down...) but those six are the Priorities for this month. And hopefully putting out a cumulative 50k words. I am. Already behind on that goal, lol, but. Maybe I'll get into a groove? That's the goal anyway.
I'm also doing some podfic/recording for GBB over this month! As well as some betaing and some mod stuff. Like assigning pinch-hitters if needed, setting up the collection for people to post (which is not a thing I've ever done before, lol, but it shouldn't be too hard?) And also starting to put together a post-event poll/survey/whatever to see if people are interested in playing again next year, and maybe ways I can improve the event. Because I'd like to keep this going, I love big bangs and I want more in this fandom (and...like I am Excited for All of the things coming out of this event; the bits I've seen look Excellent and it's my event and so of course I'm proud...but I'd also like to see a more diverse collection of focuses/ships in future years, maybe XD)
SWBB modding is going to start up, but I have told the rest of that team that I'll be able to pitch in more after GBB wraps up. But yeah, I always enjoy that event and the mod team there is a good group of people, so, should be fun! And hopefully I will get my act together to participate as a writer this year since that didn't pan out last year.
...yep, I think that's what I've got in store for this month! Work should be calming down, so I can get busy on these other things.
What about you guys, what have you been working on lately? Any NaNo plans?

hi! i’m sorry this is so long but i was looking through your star wars/atla duos and was wondering if you had any ideas for zuko and aang? maybe aang and anakin bonding over everyone telling them they’re the chosen one? or obi-wan and zuko drinking tea together like zuko and iroh do (or, possibly, obi-wan and iroh bonding over tea and swapping stories about their angsty emo ‘sons’)? or maybe zuko and ashoka switching their weapons so zuko has ashoka’s lightsabers and she has his broadswords? also, i feel like aang and the troopers would love each other (especially the crazier ones like fives and hardcase) and they definitely get into a fair amount of trouble together. sorry, last one i promise, the mental image of katara and padmé teaching each other their traditional/signature hairstyles while watching their brother/husband be idiots together and just generally bonding will not leave me alone i’m so sorry, i’m going to stop before this gets any longer, this was supposed to be short i swear thank you for this crossover idea, it’s absolutely incredible!! also, i love your art style so much!!! ok, sorry, going now
no don’t apologise this is so great!!! thank you!!!! sorry this took like 500 years to answer!
I may or may not have ~plans~ in mind for Aang 👀 but Ahsoka and Zuko???? galaxy brain concept.
Tumblr media
[Zuko: Would you say this is firebending or energybending? Ahsoka: You really have to unsheathe these every time huh?]

Coming Attractions!
Just a few quick updates, really (it’s been a slow year for me so far, writing-wise, alas).
The usual plug for my writing discord--it’s pretty quiet, but come say hi! Sometimes I brainstorm there, but mostly it’s just intended to be a more interactive version of this tumblr.
And let’s go ahead and do an Open Question Night! My askbox is always open, but tonight I’m around and keeping at least half an eye on it. Questions about writing, or any of the fandoms/etc. I post about on this blog (or on my AO3) are fair game. I also take prompts, but am bad at filling them in a timely manner, lol.
Okay, I think that covers it! Actual updates are behind the cut!
Star Wars:
SWBB gets posted at the end of this month and...while it’s not that I haven’t enjoyed it this year, it’s definitely been like pulling teeth to get the story to actually come out, haha. It’s not my best work, but I love the event and I’m glad I did it. I may not participate as a writer next year, we’ll see how I feel.
Precipice is...I swear I am working on it in the background XD I just haven’t gotten much actually down on paper because...well, the aforementioned stuckness/pulling-teeth on the other SW project which is taking all of my SW brain (except for the part that’s getting distracted by self-indulgent crossover nonsense, lol). Hopefully I’ll get more done once SWBB is through.
I don’t have any Other SW Projects actively under construction right now, but I’m sort of poking at what I might do for next year’s BB, if I do decide to participate...I feel like it won’t be as much of a struggle if I have a more solid plan when I get started? So, anyway, some of the SW/BSG crossovers I mentioned in a post here a couple weeks ago are definitely things I’m considering!
Castlevania:
I think I’m just going to give up on expanding that first scenelet in Incinctus, lol. Just give it a better conclusion, and then I can get started posting, probably later this month. I do like a lot of what I have going there. (Even if it...like, this was supposed to be self-indulgent Alucard whumpfic with a side of dumb jokes and the OT3 finding their way together at the end; it ended up being like 40% about Lisa’s Feelings which I’m not complaining about but I was not??? Expecting????)
After I finish that, depending on how that goes over and if I sustain my interest in this fandom well enough, I do have another prompt/story I might write out...we’ll see!
AtLA:
I do still really want to write fic in this fandom, but I’ve got so many other things floating around in my head, haha. The main one is still the Avatar Zuko prompt, which is still largely lacking in text (I’ve been in a slow period for...a while, I guess...but that aside). No idea on when this will come out.
BSG:
I am definitely pushing forward on The Other Battlestar AU, which is going to be a million words long (even if I do cut off at the end of the Pegasus arc which I probably will, at least for now) and also needs like. An Actual Title. (My brain fed me Bellerophon which I don’t like but I’ve got nothing else XD)
I’m also filling out some of the Supplemental Cast (mostly various Pegasus officers/crew because. like. we know a solid Five People and...we need more than that XD). I was doing some digging into How Aircraft Carriers Work because the senior medical officer/Cottle’s counterpart is going to be a pretty significant player and yeesh there should be a lot more subordinates there...but I will probably handwave that because while I do need More People there, I also need to keep things. Like. Manageable. So, there’s Daphne (the aforementioned Senior Medical Officer), and then a Marine captain who grew up with Baltar on Aerilon (who is an old OC of mine from my last time actively in this fandom but needs to be renamed because his original name was Rex and that just. Will Not Work For Me Anymore), and then probably a few other people.
Also working on sketching out the second of the OCs who will fill in some gaps on the Galactica side of things; I know more or less where I’m going with them, but they’re basically just two bullet points and ‘I don’t necessarily need to actually Show Them but I know how I’m going to introduce them during the miniseries sequence.’
I’ll have more once I do a dedicated rewatch of the first two seasons + Razor (which I’m not allowed to do until I’ve finished SWBB, lol) but I’m having fun already XD

Coming Attractions!
A day late, but ah well...
As usual, we’ll go ahead and do an Open Question Night. Which basically means that, while my ask box is always open, tonight I’ll be keeping an eye on it and answering things as they come in. Any fandom or work I’ve talked about here (or posted on AO3) is fair game, as are general questions about writing, etc. I do accept prompts, but I am. Not very good at filling them in a timely manner unless they Immediately spark something, lol.
So, yeah, what’s on your mind?
Also, since I don’t think I have for a couple months, plug for my Discord server! It’s pretty quiet, mostly intended to be a slightly more interactive extension of this space, but you’re welcome to check it out!
Anyway, the usual Coming Attractions details are behind the cut!
PodTogether 2021:
I participated in this challenge for the first time this year, and it was a whole lot of fun! Of Other Suns is a SW/AtLA crossover, and I think it turned out pretty well! My reader/podficcer and I worked pretty closely together during the initial brainstorming process, working out what we wanted to do, and also bounced off one another during the whole editing/finalizing process. There’s a lot that I didn’t end up putting into the fic (because time and length; I am a. Uh. Very wordy writer; the aim was for 6-12k words, we ended up with nearly 15k as it is...), so I might poke more at this specific AU, or crossovers linking up at a different time (either a different point in the SW canon, or in the AtLA canon, or both). I...definitely have extensive headcanons for SW characters as benders of various elements (or nonbenders), and there are at least two Force-sensitive AtLA characters who were outside the scope of the crossover.
Anyway, if you want to check it out...click this link XD (and definitely listen to the podfic too!!! It’s really great)
Precipice:
So, between the final push on PodTogether and some origfic stuff I got done, I...did not get anything finished and posted for this, alas. But! I am saying it here in the hopes that doing so publicly will for once get me to actually stick to a deadline, which is that I will get either the first Protectors chapter or the next Preludes one-shot (or both!) up by this Sunday, September 12. The Protectors chapter will be mostly scene-setting, establishing where various characters are when we open, six years after we last saw our heroes. The Preludes segment will involved Hondo contacting Obi-Wan (and Anakin, who’s with him when he gets the call) about something Relevant To Their Interests.
I will for sure get that Prelude out this month, and hopefully at least two Protectors chapters, but we’ll see how things go at work and how much brain that takes, which is always a factor...anyway, with any luck, I’ll start establishing a Rhythm. I don’t think I’ll be doing weekly updates, the way I did for the first few arcs of Precipice (in part because there are some other longform projects I intend to start putting out and if I am going to do Weekly Fic Posts, I’ll probably alternate), but we’ll see how things go.
AtLA Fic:
Again, I didn’t finish what I wanted to (other than the aforementioned crossover for PodTogether), but I have been working on stuff in the background and, while I’m not going to commit to a Specific Deadline like I am for Precipice, I do plan to post at least the opening chapter of the still-untitled Avatar Zuko AU I’ve been working on this month, so watch this space!
Other Fic Projects:
I’m poking around at what to do for next years SWBB (if only because my wordcounts have been Steadily Increasing and I’d like to get a head start in anticipation of that happening again this year, lol). Still considering exactly what to do, whether I pour all my focus into OFLAM, like I consider every year, or see if I can work up Bail Unfucks the Timeline or another half-plotted AU I have in the back of my head, or go with a different prompt/storyline that occurs to me at some point between now and then, but I’m starting to Actively Ponder things.
I do have that BSG1 crossover outline in the works, I swear XD I’ve got...uh...maybe half to two thirds of the first third of the overall storyline written up? XD It’s a. Uh. Long one. I might go ahead and release it in three parts, just for length/convenience, and because it does more or less have three distinct sections (the initial contact/New Caprica fallout and establishment of the Haven settlement which makes sense in context; the second contact/algae planet; and then an adventure on a resurrection ship to retrieve a Specific Boxed Five and possibly walk away with Ellen because that would just ruin Cavil’s day and I do so love to ruin Cavil’s day, lol). ...I’m going to go ahead and post a preview snippet at the bottom of this post, as Motivation XD
I think that’s all the fanfic stuff I have specific updates for. There’s generally always stuff noodling around in my brain (lately, for Star Wars, AtLA, BSG, or some combination of the three), it’s just how much of it materializes, lol.
At some point, I plan to revisit some BSG epics I had going on (Serenissima; rewriting For Sorrow Sung or doing a slightly different storlyine with the same concept; The Other Battlestar; a few others), but no concrete plans as of yet.
I also kind of want to explore a far-past AtLA setting I designed for a challenge community way back? But I’m not sure if that would work better as an original work with the serial numbers filed off, if I could figure out how I wanted to do that (I have done it before, as I’ll talk about below, but this concept, while not directly involving any characters from Avatar canon as it’s set 2000 years prior to Sozin’s reign, does to an extent lean on the Avatar specifically as a concept, in a way that the other fic I did this with did not).
Original Fic:
Due to a challenge on rainbowfic, I actually got. Quite a bit written? Most of it was not super plot-relevant, but I dropped some Hints about a character in Lux and I got to play in some heads I don’t very often. I might go back to the Regency AU at some point, and there’s a specific reveal I want to write up for a secondary character in The Farglass Cycle, but I haven’t quite figured out how to structure that one, so we’ll see how it goes.
Had an interesting discussion the other day about the way original fiction sometimes starts as fanfic with the serial  numbers filed off and...well, a lot of my original stuff starts that way? Or has some roots there, anyway.
Lux doesn’t quite as much, but I definitely ported in at least two characters who started as fanfic characters (leaving aside that this is, y’know, The Apocalypse IN SPACE so, like. Various fandoms that deal with that probably influenced things, plus several key players are Public Domain Characters sooooo), plus some of the way the world is constructed draws on the Native Tongue trilogy and I flat-out stole a concept from Queen of the Damned, though the way it works in this world is different (also, to be fair, I think I’ve seen it in other places, too; but I personally got the idea from there).
The Farglass Cycle and Untitled Intrigues Story, however, straight-up started as fanfic concepts. And I don’t think it’s obvious unless I point out what the source materials were? Farglass, in particular (it’s the AtLA fic I mentioned earlier), because it started as an alternate future and then the map and magic system got reworked, plus the Avatar themself wasn’t even super involved in the original fic context, and while certain characters are very loosely based on AtLA characters, by now they’ve been so altered by the setting that it’s...I used the same archetypes, if that makes sense?
And then Untitled Intrigues Story started as a fusion between two wildly different fandoms, and while one character is a pretty clear expy if you know where he comes from, and another character kept the same actress in my head, I don’t think it’s very clear other than that.
...anyway, not sure where I’m going with that, other than it’s been in my head lately, lol.
...I think that about covers it! What about you guys? What are you all working on? Slash any questions, etc.?
Teaser for BSG1 AU outline, as promised:
So, anyway, SG-1 is prepared for rain and mud and a survivable-but-kinda-unpleasant environment. They’re also prepared for the usual shenanigans--Goa’uld, cranky local politics, weird alien tech that Daniel really should know better than to touch but sends him into another dimension anyway...
Just. Y’know. A normal mission.
They’re...not quite prepared for what they actually find when they step through.
Which is a very tense and now slightly Confused crowd of people, and a firing squad made up of very large killer robots, with a teenage girl as their target.
(One of the large killer robots is. Uh. Well. Half a large killer robot now; that particular Centurion was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got kawooshed in the face. As one does.)
(Said Centurion absolutely wins the ‘Weirdest Death’ pool for the week in Download City, because that is clearly a thing that exists because it entertains me)
There’s a beat where everyone just stares at everyone else, trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
The wormhole disengages.
Daniel takes half a step forward, opens his mouth to start the ‘we are peaceful explorers from Earth and y’all seem to be having a Moment here, sorry for interrupting, but, uh...’
And then the moment end and absolute chaos erupts.

Coming Attractions!
Which I definitely forgot to do last month, ah well.
As per usual, this is also an Open Question Night post! Aka, while my askbox is always open, tonight I’ll be keeping an eye on it and around to answer in a semi-reasonable timeframe. Feel free to ask about anything in the post, or anything I’ve talked about here on tumblr, or posted on AO3, etc. ...I don’t recall if I have any active memes or anything, it’s been a while since I’ve been super on tumblr...but anyway, ask away!
I do also take prompts, but no promises on when I’ll get around to filling them. I still have a few sitting around from. Uh. Last year........
But anyway, what’s on your mind?
Precipice:
The first Preludes story went up this past weekend! Somewhat later than I’d planned, but there was another project that ended up eating a lot of my writing time/brain, alas. This one features Lavinia, Mara Jade, Kallus, a Legends cameo, and the introduction of another recurring OC. The next one will...proooooobably be Hondo, Kanan, Ezra, Obi-Wan, and Anakin? Assuming that’s the next one I finish.
There will be seven in total, and the other five will involve whatever’s going to go down with Maul; Hera and her contact in this AU; Sidious’s Fifth Titled Apprentice; and...I’m still considering the last two, lol. Maybe something to do with Mandalore; probably something more Senate-focused...I’ll work it out.
As I mentioned in the tumblr post and I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned before, I’m going to continue posting these alongside the first arc or two of Protectors, which should debut...sometime in the next couple weeks, lol.
Most of these, as you may have guessed, are shoehorning Rebels content and characters into an AU that wasn’t designed with them in mind. The gist of it is, S1 of Rebels goes more or less in canon, and then...S2 probably went differently just because of where Certain Key Players were, but I’m handwaving most of the details unless they’re interesting enough to show explicitly (probably in the Maul Prelude, if nothing else). But for the most part (even though this doesn’t, uh, entirely make sense necessarily XD) anything that doesn’t directly involve Vader/Ahsoka/Rex/Force Woo probably happened similarly. Most notably, The Honorable Ones and all plot points following directly on that happen essentially as in canon. The Mandalore plotlines are also essentially the same. ...oh, I probably should address Thrawn, since I need him in a slightly different position a few years later for spoiler reasons...
Leaving that aside...as I said, Protectors will start coming out soon, I’m just finishing up what I want for the first chapter or two, and waffling on how I want to tag some things. There is a...possible major character death in arc 14, but I’m going back and forth on whether or not I actually want to do it, which changes what tags/warnings I include...
But I’ll work that out and get it out before too much longer!
Other Star Wars Projects:
I have a Thing coming out at the end of this month or early next month, for pod_together. I’m pretty excited about it, I’ve listened to my podficcer’s first draft and am making minor edits/etc., but I think we’re in pretty good shape ^_^
Other than that, I don’t have any concrete plans for new SW fic in the near future. I’m going to buckle down and really get some momentum with Protectors and Preludes for the most part, maybe start poking at some ideas/concepts for next year’s SWBB.
Maybe also crossposting some tumblr-exclusive oneshots like I started doing last winter, or picking up with one of the AU outlines that I keep meaning to continue (Ventress + Luke, Let’s Go Steal a Crossover) but...well, we’ll see how time/brain works out this month.
Other Fanfic Projects:
I will have some standalone/fulltext AtLA fic out later this month, I promise XD It’ll be an Avatar Zuko AU, I’m putting the text together and figuring out how I want to structure it, etc.
I’m also genuinely working on a BSG/SG-1 crossover AU outline. It’s. Already quite long and I haven’t even gotten to most of the meat of the crossover yet, lol. But at least the first chunk of that will probably be up sometime later this month, too. Fingers crossed. That’s the plan, anyway.
Original Work:
I haven’t done much in the last month or two, but I’m hoping to get back into this. Both for extant ‘verses and really diving into Arthuriana research because I want to write that one story, maybe really working it up to Publishable??? We’ll see how it goes...
...I think that about covers it! Like I said at the beginning of the post, we’ll also do an Open Question Night, and I’d love to hear about what you guys are working on! What’s on your mind?

Coming Attractions!
Yes, I know it’s Friday, not Monday. <.< ANYWAY.
Before we get started, plugging my Discord server (which is p. quiet lately but it’s there if you want to talk somewhere other than here!); and also we’ll do another Open Question Night because Why Not!
As I said last month, while my askbox is always open, tonight I’ll be actively around to answer questions--about writing in general, anything I’ve posted about here on tumblr; anything on my AO3...let me know what’s on your mind!
Star Wars:
SWBB:
Take a Bond of Fate is officially up! (Previously referred to as just SWBB 2021 or the Dragonshifters AU because I literally titled it less than twelve hours before posting <.<) Well, the first 20k are up, anyway. I will be updating throughout the month and the fic will be complete by the end of the month, per the event rules. (I originally planned to do updates on Tuesdays and Fridays; tonight’s update will be delayed and who knows how well I’ll actually stick to it after tonight but it Will be posted in full by the end of May, I can say that much for sure XD)
As always, I think there are a few things I could’ve handled better/that feel a little rushed, but I think it turned out pretty good! There are some upcoming scenes I’m particularly fond of, but we’ll see if everyone else agrees. The core of this actually ended up being Bo and Padme? Which I was not expecting--I was expecting it to lean hard on the Bo and Anakin parallels, but here we are.
Anyway, there’s some fun bits to come!
Precipice:
No solid update ATM. Uh. Various Life things got bonkers over the past month or two, so TaBoF took pretty much all of my fic brain. However, since that project is essentially finished other than finalizing/polishing each update chunk as I post, I should be able to turn my attention here this month. Which means, fingers crossed, we’ll have a start date sometime in June for Protectors. I’ll post the first Preludes segment at the same time; it will involve Kallus, Lavinia, and Mara Jade, set just before Kallus is reassigned to Lothal.
(Others that I have planned will involve: 1) some combination of Kanan, Ezra, Hondo, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Anakin; 2) Hera and whoever her contact is in this AU, as Ahsoka is otherwise occupied; 3) Whatever Maul is up to in this timeline; 4) Something to do with Palpatine’s fifth apprentice; and two more I haven’t decided on. I am taking suggestions! The purpose of Preludes is to patch some holes now that I’ve decided to write Rebels into the canon, which was not part of my original plan as I hadn’t yet seen it when I started planning/posting this AU. So these are more plot-relevant than the things that turn up in Bonus Content, which is why they’re in a separate fic, but not really enough to make a full arc between Milestones and Escalation, so, there it is.)
our faces like a mirror:
I’m now leaning towards sitting on this and using it for next year’s Big Bang? Because then maybe I’ll finally finish it, lol...anyway, I’m also going to see how people respond to stuff in TaBoF, because that will either Boost my enthusiasm for the project or, uh, the opposite, depending on how people respond to how I write Bo-Katan. So that may change, and I may finally get it out this year instead of next. We’ll see how that goes XD
Other SW Projects:
One of the SW discords I’m on has revived a prompt game we did last summer. I pulled my first prompt but haven’t actually, uh, done anything with it yet. <.< I’ll do that at some point.
As for various outlines or extant AUs I haven’t updated in forever...well, like I said, what little fic brain hasn’t been on BB the past month or two has been drifting back towards Precipice or occasionally co-opted by OFLAM so...yeah, nothing serious to report on that front, lol.
AtLA Projects:
I’m semi-planning/hoping to start posting At Least one of the two longfics I’ve been poking at sometime this summer. I’ve mentioned them here before, but one is long and tragic and focuses on Lu Ten; the other is an Avatar Zuko AU. Not sure which will draw my focus and get up first, but I do plan to write both of them! And possibly more. Because this fandom just Does That to me, lol.
Also, as I’ve mentioned in various times and places--I am pathologically incapable of not creating a bunch of OCs when I seriously fall into a fandom, and my AtLA work, in particular, will probably reflect that. I don’t super plan to write anything really centered on any OCs (I mean, apart from characters who Exist but have very little Canon Characterization (i.e., Lu Ten himself for that one fic, lol); and Lu Ten’s love interest because that’s an important part of the story), but they will be There and Prominent Characters. This is mostly mentioned because I know OCs aren’t for everyone, so that might put you off of my AtLA fic and I figured it was fair to give you a head’s up.
(...although actually I think none of my old fic that I crossposted to AO3 had significant OC involvement except for Glory...but then again that’s all oneshots and a little different.)
Other Fandoms:
BSG/SG-1 (BSG1?) crossover AU is still coming; I keep getting sidetracked from actually finishing it <.< I haven’t even finished the New Caprica and Haven section, I still have to get to the algae planet and then the Resurrection ship and...maybe I’ll end up posting this in chunks...
Uh, nothing else super planned, but as I mentioned last month, this outline might draw me back into BSG fandom a little more actively because it’s another forever fandom of mine.
Original Fiction:
I’m actually really proud of the Regency AU I wrote for a challenge last month, based on my Apocalypse In SPACE ‘verse Lux.
I need to update the Lux and Farglass Cycle archives still, and will hopefully be posting at least one other thing to RF this month, but we’ll see how that goes. I also might or might not be diving into Arthuriana in all its weirdness and glory this summer to prep for actually writing that Lady Mordred idea I had. And there are always other projects on the back burner, but that’s where things stand here.
...I think that pretty much covers it! Not all that much of an update, but as I said, Life got all...Lifey at me, plus BB had a hard deadline, so that’s where the most detail is.
But what about you guys? What are you working on/what do you have in the pipeline? Like I said, it’s an Open Question Night, and I’d love to hear what’s on your mind!

Coming Attractions!
Because it is the first Monday of the month and also I think I skipped last month, whoops.
Because I think I haven’t done it in a while, I’m gonna take this opportunity to plug my writing discord--it’s not super active, but I sometimes ramble about various projects and I usually post updates there, too, if you miss things here or on AO3.
Also, Open Question Night because why not--if you’re new here (or have forgotten), while my askbox is always open, I’m actually hanging out and around to answer tonight. Anything I’ve talked about either here or Ao3 is fair game; questions about writing in general, etc. While I do accept prompt, I do not promise to fill them in a timely fashion, lol.
What’s on your minds?
In general, I’m a little bit behind on where I wanted to be on most things--I didn’t get quite as much done as I’d hoped in February, and then work got super busy in March, so I was scrambling to finish my BB draft, and things just sort of dominoed.
Star Wars Projects
Big Bang:
Still untitled, but I have...most of it written now! (Which. Like. Deadline for a more or less complete draft was April 1 so, lol.) There are a couple of bridging/character-building scenes I might want to add, maybe a couple additional flashbacks, plus I need to smooth out some transitions/starts and ends to scenes/I think I’m missing a fight scene or two, etc.
Anyway, I’m pretty excited! There are a couple scenes I’m really looking forward to sharing--some of the stuff with Bo and Padme’s relationship arc; a couple things with Anakin; that one part my notes subtitled ‘But Brutus Is An Honorable Man...’
That’ll go up in May--starting on the 4th, but I probably won’t post it all at once. The schedule will probably materialize once I’ve figured out exactly how I want to format it (since my original plan for how the flashbacks would be seeded through doesn’t quite work as the project stands...)
Precipice!Verse:
Still on hiatus/don’t have a start date for the next part. But my plan right now is to start posting once I have five chapters more or less ready to go. I’m hoping for either later this month or May, depending on how much BB edits/other projects/work eats my brain. I’ll probably put up another teaser this month. Hoping to get the first Preludes story out in the next few weeks as well, but I’m behind on that...
Other SW Projects:
OFLAM, Distaff, Auxiliaries, Devoted!verse, Jedi of Valdemar, etc. ...I don’t have any concrete updates on these but they are still in the pipeline. Just a little bit back-burnered at the moment. Though given how heavily Bo is featured in my BB project, that’ll probably kickstart OFLAM a little bit.
AtLA Projects
There are two I’m working on, and I’m hoping to start posting at least one this summer. I’ve talked about them in a little more detail in previous Coming Attractions posts, so I don’t have any real Updates, but just figured I’d put them here as a placeholder XD
BSG Projects
There is actually at least one thing solidly in the pipeline in this fandom for once! AKA my roommate has been watching SG-1, I’ve been in the room as she does, it woke up a crossover I had going back when I was actively in this fandom like seven years ago...anyway, that crossover’s gonna end up as an AU outline in the not too distant future. Which may or may not lead to more fic in this fandom, because it is a fun one to come back to.
Original Fiction
I keep meaning to get back into the groove of writing more original stuff and it keeps not quite happening, lol. I also really need to finish updating the Lux and Farglass Cycle archives...
I also really need to read more Arthuriana, because that Lady Mordred idea nibbling at the back of my mind is still present enough that I kind of want to actively work on it, at least in a backburnered sort of way. So, yeah, if you have recommendations for particular novels/resources, I’d appreciate it!
There are a few others that aren’t ones I post on rainbowfic (first contact novel, another traditional fantasy, the institute files, the judas epic, etc.) but the Mordred one is the one that’s uppermost in my head lately.
Anyway, no real active plans here except ‘try to post more to RF’ ‘update those archives already’ ‘maybe start working on the Mordred thing,’ but that’s where we are.
We’ll see how it goes!
...I think that just about covers it! Like I said earlier, this is an Open Question Night--I’d love to hear what’s on your mind/chat about my projects or whatever it is your working on!

Coming Attractions!
First Monday of the month (and year. Thank every known deity in the universe.)
...ahem.
Yeah. It’s been a...well, 2020. But it is now officially a new month and year, and time for a Coming Attractions post!
The big news, obviously, is that I actually finished Precipice. \o/ ...well, the first seven arcs, anyway.
As I’ve discussed before, and explained in my very long author’s note at the end of the final chapter on Ao3, the next steps for this AU are a series of seven one-shots which will be released as ‘Preludes,’ covering the six-year timegap before Arc Eight. These mostly deal with Rebels characters (although I’m slightly rethinking one of them because I should probably include Mara Jade in it...), as well as Sidious’ fifth apprentice and possibly Maul.
I’ll also be starting the sequel, entitled either Protectors or Promises (it’s been Protectors for a while, but now I’m waffling? IDK). Anyway, that picks up with arc Eight, Escalation, six years after the end of Precipice. I’ll probably post a preview snippet sometime this month because Why Not.
There will be a hiatus (an actually Planned one this time, lol...). I’m aiming to start posting in April, but we’ll see how things go.
Anyway, moving on to other plans!
Other Star Wars Projects:
our faces like a mirror
I totally planned to start posting that this year <.< On the plus side, I don’t...think the Siege of Mandalore arc (or the stuff from the Mandalorian) really Jossed anything I had planned? Especially given the fact that it’s set from 5 years pre-TPM (I recognize that Lucasfilm has made a timeline decision but given that it’s a stupid-ass timeline decision I have elected to ignore it) to about 5 years post-TPM, so I wasn’t really expecting it to, but it was a vague concern of mine. Anyway, I’ll rewatch to be sure before I post, probably. But, yeah, I’m all the more excited about my girl Bo-Katan now, so hopefully I’ll get some momentum on this.
2021 SWBB:
I finally figured out a general shape of the plot, lol! And I have about...just under 4k of miscellaneous text in this AU (like, actual Story text, not just random notes and scribbles of which I have. A Lot). I need to get another 2k by Sunday, but that shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s going to be in four parts, plus prelude/interludes/coda, because that is the Structure that my brain at like 4AM gave me the other night, lol. While I don’t know the details, I have a general idea of What Happen in parts one, three, and four; except for tying in some Mandalore stuff and making some Decisions about who I want to draw in at various points. Part Two is also up in the air. I know how it needs to end to set up part three, but not so sure about what should actually go in there. Possibly I’ll end up cutting Part Two and just having a three-part story, but eh, we’ll see.
Anyway, I’m having fun with this, especially since I’ve discovered the Plot, so we’ll see how things go from here :)
Other SW Fanfics:
I am...hoping??? to resurrect Distaff and/or the Ventress outline at some point this year, because I’m very fond of those AUs and they deserve some more love. Possibly also another Devoted story. We shall see.
AtLA Fanfic Projects:
As I’ve mentioned a few times over the past few months, I’ve fallen back into this fandom (which was my primary fandom for...like...four to six years????) And I definitely want to write more in it. I’ve already done one AU outline, and I have plans for a couple fulltext fics (...discounting the super-self-indulgent crossover stuff I don’t super plan on sharing outside a very small circle lol). I don’t have much actual, uh, Text on anything yet, but I’m hoping to start posting one or more of those at some point this year, too.
Project One is an Avatar Zuko AU; Aang is around for reasons that do get explained in story; Zuko finds out a couple months before the duel with his father when accidental water or airbending happens (he’s in a sailboat, there’s a storm, I haven’t worked out the details yet). He decides That Clearly Didn’t Happen and proceeds to ignore it...until he manages to accidentally waterbend again when in the infirmary post-duel. At which point he decides he Does Not want to be just...used as a weapon. He figures he has about three and a half years before the comet, he can use that time to figure out what to do next; maybe come back with the comet and Prove his Worth at that point.
He goes to the WAT first, to see what he can figure out about airbending from any texts/mosaics/whatever that are still there; then he heads to the NWT; then he’ll probably pick up Toph because I love their dynamic. He plans to spend a year on each other element (not enough time for mastery but that comet deadline looms large). Obviously, over the course of those three years, his plans change.
And then things get thrown even more off the rails when Aang emerges from the iceberg before Zuko’s year of earthbending is up.
There will be a fair number of OCs hanging around (both to give him someone to talk to at the WAT and I think he’s going to learn from a less-prominent master than Pakku when he gets to the NWT), as well as Iroh trying to find his nephew, and various other familiar faces from the show.
Project Two is about Lu Ten, and a lover he had during the Siege of Ba Sing Se, and what happens to her (and her daughter) after his death. I’ve talked about that one in a little more detail in other posts, I think, hence the comparatively short summary, lol.
Original Stuff:
I am hoping to get more origfic posted this year than I did last year. I’ve got these universes I love exploring, and I feel like they should get more attention, lol.
...I think that about covers it! At the end of last year, I set myself some Goals, which were. Well. 2020 happened, soooo...
Anyway, because I am an Optimist, I’m going to set goals again for this year. And I guess go over how well I did on the ones I had??? A lot of my goals will probably be repeats from last year, because...yeah.
2020 Goals
1. Finish Precipice; complete Arcs 8 and 9 in Protectors/Promises/Precipice II; put out some level of Arc 7.5/Preludes content.           I did finish Precipice! I did not do the other things. 2. Write at least 10k of origfic content.           Not quite--I ended up with 8,129 words. 3. Start posting OFLAM           Nope, that did not happen. 4. Revive a semi-hiatused fic (i.e., Distaff; Auxiliaries; Phoenix!Verse; one of the BSG fics I keep meaning to go back to if I ever actually sit down and rewatch the series; if I add an actual sequel/companion to Deja Vu… that probably counts…)           Did not happen. 5. Finish updating Lux and Farglass Cycle archives; keep them updated through the end of the year as new content gets added.           Nope. 6. At least four AU outline installments of some kind; preferably including a continuation of Ventress and Her Tiny Time-Travelling Conscience and actually writing up the main part of Let’s Go Steal a Crossover; but any outline will count.           I did put up one AtLA outline, as mentioned before; and I also posted a massive timeline for the Jedi of Valdemar AU, but nothing else. 7. Complete BB submission and keep an eye out for other challenges/exchanges.           Did complete BB, and one giftfic exchange over the summer. 8. Write at least one holiday fic (Valentine’s Day; Mother’s Day; Father’s Day; Halloween; New Year’s; etc.) and post on the appropriate day.           Did not do the thing.
2021 Goals
1. Post Arcs 8 and 9 in Precipice!Verse as well as at least half of the Preludes stories. 2. Write at least 10k of origfic content. 3. Start posting OFLAM. 4. Revive a semi-hiatused fic; preferably Distaff; but Auxiliaries or Phoenix!verse or one of the BSG fics would also count (Serenissima, Other Battlestar, For Sorrow Sung rewrite...) 5. Start posting at least one AtLA fulltext fic. 6. Finish updating Lux and Farglass Cycle archives; keep them updated through the end of the year as new content gets added. 7. Find a title and set up an archive for Untitled Intrigues Story 8. At least four AU outline installments of some kind, preferably including a continuation of Ventress and Her Tiny Time-Travelling Conscience 9. Complete BB submission and keep an eye out for other challenges/exchanges. 10. Write at least one holiday fic (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, New Year’s, etc.) and post on the appropriate day.

On OC Creation
[Disclaimer: I’m not super interested in Discourse about Mary Sues and/or the concept of OCs in general. Just...starting this whole thing with a foundational premise that OCs are Fun and Not A Bad Thing.]
So, I’ve been thinking some about OC creation (because, as I’ve mentioned before, I am pathologically incapable of not creating a stable of OCs when I’m in a fandom for more than five minutes lol; also I’ve been falling back into AtLA and I have...A Lot of OCs there XD).
...anyway, I’ve been thinking about it, and...I’m curious, those of you out there who have OCs, how do you create them? Mine tend to kind of fall into four groups.
Group 1: Core OCs, or OCs that are Concepts I want to play with and/or have plots of their own (for fanfic, for RP, for just messing around in my own brain). So, like...Atia from BSG, or Addie from MCU, or Lavinia from SW, or Haku from AtLA (...as far as I remember, he fell into this category? A lot of my AtLA OCs I don’t quite remember where they started, lol...but I’m including him because I plan on using him for an upcoming AU outline project), or arguably Judas from SPN, or Des from Dresden Files...
Group 2: Satellite OCs, or OCs that basically (at least initially) serve to flesh out the backstories/etc. of Core OCs (and/or canon characters in come cases). So, like...Melanie is one of Atia’s satellites; ...Addie doesn’t actually have any until we start getting into Crossovers ETA: lol i forgot Caroline i’m dumb; Vedric Greer is one of Lavinia’s; Wei and Nuying are Haku’s; Hermes and Hathor were Judas’s (though also kind of Gabriel’s); Hamlet and Azriel and Ben were Des’s...
Group 3: Plot-Relevant OCs, or OCs that are built to serve a specific plot-related purpose and aren’t intended to have stories or backgrounds or satellites of their own. So, like...Ileana from BSG; ...I don’t actually have any from MCU; Specter and Infernalis from SW; arguably, the...I forget her name, but the woman I designed to be Iroh’s wife/Lu Ten’s mother from AtLA; Eremiel from SPN; and...I don’t recall any from DF but that doesn’t mean they didn’t exist.
Group 4: One-shot OCs, or OCs that are designed for a specific RP prompt/context. Most of these are also Plot-Relevant or Satellite OCs but I guess I think about them differently, since they’re mostly RP-based? Anyway, as some examples--Khuyen I believe I created because I needed an earthbender willing to train someone Fire-born without too much Drama, etc.; Indree was created to give Roslin some local backup/cultural advice in the Epic Crossover RP of DOOM; Addie has a Love Interest who was created for the same RP; there were quite a few from one of the two DF RPs I was involved in for a while...
Of course, while I say they’re just supposed to be Support and/or For This One Thing, OCs from Groups 2-4 often stick around, and start developing satellites and/or plotlines of their own. Like, as an SW example, I built a sister for Kallus. Then she had three sons, so I needed to name them and give them at least vague personalities (to be fair, some of this was also related to OCs created by me and a friend of mine, respectively, to be Kallus and Zeb’s kids). Then they had partners and children of their own. Eremiel (SPN) was supposed to have one specific infodumpy scene and then disappear. She ended up with a backstory related to characters who wouldn’t appear for two more seasons and the Book of Raziel. Ileana was supposed to be a sounding board for a tertiary canon character who was vital to that fic’s plot and ended up being a million times more Interesting than he was and leaking some crucial information to the press later in the story. And on and on it goes.
Sometimes, they start migrating to other ‘verses (sometimes my original stuff, like Kirana moved from AtLA to Feredar, though she left her AtLA family and some of her personality traits behind). I have one OC who was originally built for a wildly AU Dresden Files RP who then migrated to a more canon verse and then to AtLA. Judas has bounced around in at least three universes I’ve played in, excluding one-shot RPs...at least one character I originally designed for AtLA jumped generations and wound up having a plotline in LoK.
And sometimes, OCs that didn’t initially start out as connected start turning out to be. For example, Iroh’s wife, who I mentioned above (I really need to either remember what name I had for her or just rename her, lol), ended up being connected to a long-standing Plot-Relevant OC I had built as the head of the infirmary in the Fire palace (they served together in the Navy, among other things), as well as a Core OC who was...very concepty and will probably not be revived without some significant revision (IW was this character’s aunt).
Anyway, tl;dr: I create OCs based on either specific concepts/storylines I’m interested in, or as supplements to said characters, or to fill in a specific plot-necessary role. And then they start fractaling out, the same way I work in AUs. This is why I am pathologically incapable of not doing this, lol.
What about you guys? Any of you create OCs? How do you go about doing it?
...as long as we’re here, why not do an Open Question Night? Priority to questions related to OCs, given the topic of this post, but otherwise the usual rules apply. Any fandom/work I’ve discussed here or have posted on my AO3 is fair game.
What’s on your minds?
no i am not procrastinating writing the next chapter of precipice or the other things i have in the pipeline why would you say such a thing
