The shadows have their seasons, too. The feathery web the budding maples cast down upon the sullen lawn

The thinning shade of autumn is an inherited Oriental, red worn to pink, nap worn to thread.

Shadows on snow look blue. The skier, exultant at the summit, sees his poles elongate toward the valley: thus

each blade of grass projects another opposite the sun, and in marshes the mesh is infinite,

as the winged eclipse an eagle in flight drags across the desert floor is infinitesimal.

And shadows on water!— the beech bough bent to the speckled lake where silt motes flicker gold,

or the steel dock underslung with a submarine that trembles, its ladder stiffened by air.

And loveliest, because least looked-for, gray on gray, the stripes the pearl-white winter sun

hung low beneath the leafless wood draws out from trunk to trunk across the road like a stairway that does not rise.

think I figured out today why I get SO frustrated about naturopaths and it's because we're SO CLOSE to the same aims but just not there!

I'm fairly crunchy as far as doctors go, I love to see people not needing medications or being able to come off things, I want to go low waste in so far as that's possible (while realising that medical purposes is at some level what plastic is FOR - it's an area where it's worth creating waste if that's what needs to happen to keep you healthy!), I love to see people improving their health through purely lifestyle measures! it's great!

but what I really want is things that WORK

so I get super frustrated at low-waste toothpaste options because they're all fluoride free because our values ALMOST align and then there's the fluoride conspiracies, and at nutritionists who correctly identify that patients have low-nutrient diets and then throw expensive supplements at them, because the more-natural and more-effective way is to eat a wide variety of foods, which is also cheaper, which is really important to a large chunk of my patients!

#for the record: fluoride works. the best diet for most people is one that contains a wide variety of whole foods especially vegetables. #most people do not routinely need supplements except for vitamin D over winter if you're in a low-sun place #PLEASE fluoride your teeth or at least your children's teeth #medicine

#like the kind of sleep where youve been working outside all day and when you come in the door its like stepping into winter and youre too #damn tired to even shower and you get your muddy shoes off and maybe your pants too if youre lucky and just collapse on the bed and its #still too damn hot to cuddle but the fan starts blowing and the surface of your skin is growing icicles and hes kinda wrapped around you and #you can hear his breathing go steady and youre so fucking exausted but a little bit of light is coming through the window just enough so you #can see his face and youre like wow. and the next day when you wake up you get to kiss him on the forehead and massage his sore muscles and #go back out to work except the hard part is over and you just have to clean and at the height of the day you go back inside to rest because #the sun is brutal and you drink iced tea and listen to him talk about something he loves #while laying your head down on the table like its fourth grade and you just stayed up late for the first time and you go out in the evening #just to wrap things up and its still warm but not hot and the insects and frogs are singing and the air smells fresh and alive and you #watch him play with his cat who isnt allowed outside usually but shes on a little expadition and its just so adorable and once the mosquitos #start biting you go inside and shower and spend the evening in bed talking about your plans and what youll do next and its just a lovely m #moment #maybe you listen to music on a low volume while you fall asleep and you think about how the other night made you just that much more greatfu #for this one and that you have someone with you who wants to do both the literal/metaphorical long days of hard work under the hot sun and #chilling out just enjoying each others company

Why can’t it be the middle of winter now???

I wanna stand outside at night with a distant light & watch the heavy snow fall around me, enjoying the silence a cold winter’s night has to offer.

I wanna take my headphones out & listen to the crunching snow under my boots as I walk home, just existing in that moment.

I wanna come in from the cold, hang up my wet jacket & put my boots by the heater to dry, & wring out the snow & ice stuck in my hair.

I wanna curl up in a warm sweater on my rocking chair with a nice cup of cocoa with as many small marshmallows as years I’ve lived.

I wanna read a book with oldies music playing softly in the background, surrounded by warm-toned fairy lights & candles.

I want it to be the middle of winter now.

fuck summer it’s too hot and i’m biologically coded to be a Fall Girlie because my birthday’s a week before halloween but i need locally grown tomatoes like a missing limb rn
