Lucas often took pride in being the protective one in your relationship. He took pride in being the ‘man’ of it. Always opening doors for you, always protecting you and caring for you. He always claimed that he was a ‘big strong man’.
Until he comes down with a cold.
You came home from having breakfast with your mother. Lucas was still sleeping when you left so you had no idea he was sick. You came back and spot him sitting on the couch in the living room while staring at the TV. A box of tissues was in his hands and a pile of tissues was right next to him.
“Babe? Are you alright?” You call out to him, walking over to take a closer look. His hair was messy and he looked tired.
He sniffs but keeps his eyes on the TV. “You left me.”
You let out a chuckle at his tone, he sounded to dramatic and like a child. You gently press your palm against his forehead, frowning at feeling how warm he felt. “Have you been this sick all morning?”
“You left me here to die alone from this horrible sickness!” Lucas sniffs again whole pouting. You couldn’t help but give his cheek a light squeeze. He was being dramatic and you knew that, but he just becomes and acts so helpless while sick.
“I’ll make you some soup, how does that sound?”
“That-that sounds nice.” He mumbles, still being dramatically upset.
You quickly made a chicken noodle soup, making sure to add extra veggies and chicken to make sure your boyfriend gets all of his needed nutrients. You set a bowl of the soup on a tray alongside a cup of tea, a bottle of water, and some medicine. “My love, here.” You quietly say to him, holding up the tray of food.
“Meu amor, I am so weak right now that I don’t think I can hold the spoon up.” Lucas lets out a whine followed by a pout in response. You try to contain a smile by his reaction. You knew he was fully capable of being able to hold the spoon but you also knew how your boyfriend secretly loves being babied.
“Of course, meu bebê.” You tease him as you sit down next to him. His favorite movie played on the TV as you fed him spoonfuls of the soup. “It’s hot, be careful.” You gently blow on the warm soup before leading it to his mouth.
“Give me the tea too?” Lucas asks you once he finishes the soup, giving you a soft yet tired smile.
“Anything for you, my big baby.”
“I’m not a baby!”
You quickly shush him as you spoon fed him the tea. Lucas furrowed up his eyebrows and squints his eyes at you, but still drinks the tea. “I’m not a baby, meu amor.” He tries to protest again.
You set down the cup of tea on the coffee table in front of you. You look at him, “Yes you are. And it’s okay, you’re my baby.”
His facial expression softened for a split second. But then he lets out a huff, “Am not! You know what. Whatever! You left me here to die!”
“See! You’re such a baby!”
“Whatever, give me a kiss.” He reaches over to grab you but you quickly scoot away from him. He looks at you confused and tries to get near you but you kept moving away, “Meu amor!”
You quickly shake your head in reply, “No, You’re gonna get me sick!”
Lucas gives you what seemed to be his 100th pout of the day and you knew it wouldn’t be his last. He knew you were weak for his pouts so he often used it to his advantage. “Please! It will cure me. Especially after you left me here alone all morning and fending for myself while being on my death bed!”
“Then you’ll have to take care of me when I’m sick.”
“And I’ll just kiss you more and I won’t leave you here alone!”
You playfully roll your eyes and scoot closer to Lucas. He pulls you onto his lap and gives you a soft kiss. He then kisses your cheek, then your forehead, then your lips once again.
“Wow, I’m magically better now.” Lucas whispers, a smile creeping up on his lips.
“You baby. I hope you know I won’t be easy when I get sick.”
Next week, you found yourself with the same cold Lucas had a few days before. Let’s just say you acted even more like a baby than he did, just to get back at him a bit.

you can request from my prompt list
this is my master list
players/drivers I write for
62-"is that a baby bump or have you been eating a snack child?" "shut the fuck up, he doesn't know yet!"
She was pregnant. Her and Lucas have been trying to fet a baby for a while now. And y/n find out about two weeks ago that she was finally pregnant.
She had no idea how to tell Lucas. In fact, no one knew yet excpet for her mother. Not even her closest friends.
Her baby bump was showing off slightly. If she was wearing a tight shirt or something, it would be a bit obvious if you focus. But she was able to hind it, always wearing an oversized t-shirt or one of Lucas's hoodies
Her friends were over at her house, while Lucas was training in the backyard of their house. y/n was wearing a hoodie, and it was starting to get a bit hot. So she took her hoodie off and was left in a crop top of hers
"is that a baby bump or have you been eating a snack child?" one of her friends noted out, making her eyes widen at her loud voice
"shut the fuck up, he doesn't know yet!" she whisper/yelled, making her friends gasp
"you're pregnant?" they all yelled in one voice, making y/n's face palm
Lucas heard the voice of the ladies sitting in his living room, all yelling in one voice that someone is pregnant, so he stepped inside the house and to the living room, making all eyes avert towards his direction
"who's pregnant?" he asked curiously glancing at all the girls, but then maintaining eye contact with y/n
"no on-" y/n was interrupted by the voice of one of her friends
"your wife!" she exclaimed, making y/n glare at her, before turning back to Lucas
"you're pregnant?" he asked, his voice barely above whisper as he stepped closer to his wife
She nodded slightly, not knowing if she should curse her friends for telling him or thank him for making it easy
"pregnant as in you have our baby in there?" he placed his hand on her stomach, feeling the tiny bump that made his eyes widen
"yes Lucas pregnant with a baby. with what would I be pregnant?" she asked sarcastically rolling his eyes
"oh shut up" Lucas mumbled, wrapping his arms around her waist hugging her tightly
She wrapped her arms around his neck, as he buried his face deeper into her neck
She felt something wet on her neck, making her furrow her eyebrows before removing Lucas's face from her neck
"are you crying?" she asked, noticing his slightly red eyes, and one tear that ran down his cheek
"I'm just so happy meu amor. we're having a baby!" he excalimed making her laugh
"yeah yeah we are. now go get me some chocolate from the kitche. I've been craving it all day" she said
he smiled and leaned down m, pressing his lips against hers for a moment
"I'm telling you from now. she's gonna be one tough pregnant lady" her friend said, while the others laugh
"whatever. as long as I have my food and husband with me. everything will be great"

Mane inspires Senegal to win over Brazil, Colombia deepen Germany's woes.
Tumblr media
SADIO MANE SCORED two goals as African champions Senegal came from behind to defeat Brazil 4-2 in an international friendly in Lisbon last night, while Colombia defeated Germany to increase the pressure on coach Hansi Flick. Five-time World Cup winners Brazil are still without a coach after the departure of Tite last year, while Neymar remains sidelined by an ankle injury suffered in February. Lucas Paqueta headed the South Americans ahead from Vinicius Junior’s cross after ten minutes, but Senegal equalised through a thumping left-foot volley by Strasbourg forward Habib Diallo. Marquinhos put Senegal ahead early in the second half when the Paris Saint-Germain defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Mane, who missed the World Cup with injury and endured a tough first season at Bayern Munich, added a third minutes later with a superb curling shot into the top corner. Brazil halved the deficit when Marquinhos this time scored at the right end, looping a mishit effort over Senegal goalkeeper Mory Diaw. But Mane wrapped up Senegal’s victory deep into stoppage time as he grabbed his second goal of the game from the penalty spot. Elsewhere second-half goals from Luis Diaz and Juan Cuadrado took Colombia to a 2-0 friendly win over Germany, deepening home coach Flick’s woes a year out from Euro 2024. Liverpool forward Diaz leapt high to head in a looping Cuadrado cross before the Juventus wing-back scored a late penalty after Germany captain Joshua Kimmich handballed in the box a minute after coming off the bench. It was Colombia’s first win over Germany and means the four-time world champions have won just one of five games since their disastrous group-stage exit at the Qatar World Cup in December. Germany, who qualify for next year’s Euro as hosts, lacked fluidity in Gelsenkirchen, ramping up the pressure on under-fire boss Flick, with the side not playing again until September. “I’m very disappointed for the fans,” said Flick. “We wanted to try something but it went belly up.” Flick was bullish on his side’s long-term chances, saying his side would “show a different willingness, a difference performance” in the next round of friendlies. “From September, we’ll settle in and then the results will come.” After making nine changes for the 1-0 loss to Poland in Warsaw on Friday, Flick again switched things up with five alterations in the starting XI. The coach handed the armband to Gundogan after the treble-winning Manchester City captain’s recent successes, with Kimmich starting from the bench. But Germany again looked disjointed and were lucky to avoid conceding a penalty midway through the first half when the home side were caught out by a lightning-fast Colombia counter. Centre-back Malick Thiaw, in just his second match for Germany, appeared to have brought down Diaz in the box but the referee ruled the AC Milan defender got a toe to the ball. Diaz got on the scoresheet however in the second half, heading in Cuadrado’s ball after Emre Can was dispossessed in his own half. Flick brought Kimmich on for Gundogan with 10 minutes remaining and the Bayern Munich midfielder gave away a penalty moments afterwards. Cuadrado stepped up to the spot to send Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen the wrong way. While Flick has repeatedly defended his side’s results on the basis of a desire to experiment before Euro 2024, his position may now be called into question. Germany play two home friendlies against Japan and World Cup runners-up France in September. Read the full article

A Day of Thriller: Croatia Survived Another Scare, Argentina Still Stood
Tumblr media
The current Route to the Final (📸 ITV Sport)
After the two-days rest since the 17 consecutive days of action, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is back with the start of the quarterfinals. We started with the top half of the draw, where Brazil takes Croatia in their third meeting in the past three World Cup editions, while Argentina takes on the Netherlands for a Total Football Battle.
Croatia v. Brazil
Tumblr media
Croatia's Andrej Kramaric was in action with Brazil's Thiago Silva (📸 Reuters)
The first match saw a dramatic action between Brazil and Croatia, where they met twice in the last three FIFA World Cup events, where Brazil won twice. However, considering their previous rounds and the way this match went, everything was not as the paper thought. This action-packed match had it all.
The regular time was ended in a goalless manner (0-0). However, it was not without a fight from both teams. In the first half, for example, Dominik Livakovic saved a free-kick that came from Vinicius Jr. or how Richarlison defended a potential chance coming from Croatia earlier. On the second half, Livakovic notably saved another shot from Vinicius Jr. after blocking numerous attempts from Neymar and Lucas Paqueta. This showed how, even though the ball possession was almost equal, Brazil was unable to convert their chances, considering the long passing duration and the disorganization within them. On the other hand, Croatia defended well, albeit no chances produced in the second half.
However, the drama was served during the extra times. In the first period of extra time, Neymar scored a smooth goal at 105', when he broke through the Croatian defense, picking up the ball all the way to Livakovic's direction, where the angle it was executed caught the Croatian side off-guard. The Brazilian party did not last long, because they scored an equalizer during the second half of the extra time: this is where Bruno Petkovic scored from the crossbar right after receiving the assistance from Marcelo Brozovic. By that point, parking the bus was not enough for Brazil, since Croatia went in a more offensive mode, pushing for the penalty shootout.

And by the end of the second half of the extra time, the penalty shootout happened. Croatia managed to score in all their turns, thanks to Nikola Vlasic, Lovro Majer, Luka Modric, and Mislav Orsic. This crashed Brazil's dreams to win their sixth World Cup title, especially because of Rodrygo's spot kick saved by Livakovic and Marquinhos' ball that went over to the goal post. Right after this loss, Tite stepped down as the Brazilian head coach.
Croatia's advancement to the semifinal marked their second straight victory (apart from the Round of 16 match against Japan) in this year's World Cup from the penalty shootout. This lengthened the list of the Croatian wins after extra time or penalty shootout since 2018, where it started in the Round of 16 against Denmark back then (in penalty shootout), with an exception of the 2018 finals against France (finished in regular time, became the runner-up). However, whether or not this list extends, depend on their semifinal match against Argentina or the Netherlands.
Argentina v. Netherlands
The second match of the evening had the Total Football Battle between Argentina and the Netherlands. While one of the most memorable moments came from Dennis Bergkamp's goal in the 1998 FIFA World Cup with that angle, the ratio to proactivity to create chances to their ability to maximize their chances will be tested. While until this round the Netherlands created 6 to Argentina's 10 chances to score, the Netherlands scores 8 to Argentina's 1.5 in average. What a test to both teams' collectivity.
Tumblr media
The no-look assist from Lionel Messi, whose assist helped Nahuel Molina to score in the first half (📸 Fanzine Football)
Both Argentina and the Netherlands started slowly in the first half, trying to figure out each others' pace. One of the most notable chances came from Argentina, where Alexis Mac Allister received the ball from the edge of the box, where he transferred the ball to Rodrigo de Paul, whose execution was saved. This on-target chance bore fruit at 34', where Nahuel Molina scored his first international goal with Lionel Messi's assistance, breaching Virgil van Dijk and Daley Blind from the right, passing the ball to N. Molina to score, catching Andries Noppert off-guard. Afterward, the Netherlands had a saved corner (by Emiliano Martinez), enabling them to create another chance on-target before the whistle blew to mark the end of the first half.
The tension and intensity started to increase in the second half. Plenty of fouls occurred made Mateu Lahoz, the referee, issued 15 yellow cards in total, the second after Portugal v. Netherlands in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. One of them happened at the penalty box, where Nicolas Acuna cut Denzel Dumfries' back, hence the latter fell down and this was regarded as a foul. Lionel Messi then successfully executed the penalty at 72', giving Argentina a 2-0 lead. However, the Netherlands started to actively counter-attack, which bore fruit toward the end of the match. The first goal for the Dutch was scored by Wout Weghorst, where he scored a perfect header right after the throw.
One of the clashes of the bench between the Netherlands and Argentina (🎥 Kan 11 IL)
Somehow, things escalated quickly on par with the intensity. After Leandro Paredes slid in and fouled Nathan Ake, the scuffle after the ball went out occurred. As a result, both Paredes and Ake were booked by the referee, adding their names to the long list of this match's yellow card recipients. While the free kick resulted in a chance went far away, the Dutch counter-attack started to work once again at the last second, where Weghorst scored right after receiving the ball from Teun Koopmeiners at 90+9' and right before the final whistle (for the regular time) blew. 2-2, because of that equalizer.
Consequently, this match was extended to a 2x15 minutes of extra time. At this period, while neither sides could not produce any goals, some produced notable chances. The closest ones for Argentina were from Nicolas Otamendi at 103', where he fired the ball to the other side of the pitch and went wide, or from Lautaro Martinez, where he could not believe the ball was saved after he fired from the right. For the Netherlands, it was near the last minute, where Weghorst's ball bounced up inches over the bar at 117'. Several minutes later, since neither side could score, it all boiled down to the penalty shootout once again. The second match of this round and the day which ended with a penalty.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media

The penalty shootout kept the spectators at the edge of their seats. Virgil van Dijk missed his penalty after being saved by Emiliano Martinez, followed by Lionel Messi's goal. While on the subsequent turns Steven Berghuis missed while Leandro Paredes scored, Koopmeiners first scored for the Netherlands, minimizing the gap to 1-2. In the third turn, both Gonzalo Montiel and Wout Weghorst scored to keep this alive at 2-3, only for Enzo Fernandez succumbing to the pressure, thus unable to properly execute the penalty.
It was a little horror for the Argentinean side when Luuk de Jong scored to equalize the penalty at 3-3. However, Lautaro Martinez scored another goal in the fifth turn, enabling Argentina to advance from the quarterfinals for the fourth time. In the semifinals, they will face Croatia, who earlier won against Brazil, also in penalty shootout.
Croatia v. Argentina: Another Dramatic Flow?
Tumblr media
Lionel Messi (left) and Luka Modric (right), the notable players of Argentina and Croatia, respectively (📸 Goal.com).
Another likelihood of intense semifinal awaits in Argentina v. Croatia. Both of them are that hungry: eyes on the prize, no matter how hard they fought. One of them is because of their form coming to this match: Croatia won their last 2 matches in penalty shootout (including against Brazil), while Argentina won straightforwardly in regular time against Australia 2-0 before taking out the Netherlands in the penalty shootout, despite a slow start by being defeated by Saudi Arabia 1-2 during their first group stage match.
This match will be their third meeting in the FIFA World Cup, where they shared their head-to-heads: Argentina slightly won 1-0 in 1998, while Croatia won 3-0 in 2018 (the latter happened on the group stage). Then, Croatia secured their spot to the knockout stage with 2 of their goals came from Luka Modric, and another one from Ivan Rakitic at the injury time. They were the more aggressive side of that time, hence the deserving victory.
However, it might not be as straightforward today, given the possibility of another intense battle like today's quarterfinals. When both these teams are on their peaks, think of the penalty shootout as the last resort. On the other hand, to advance to the Finals (either via regular or after extra time), one team must be able to pressure another and take their chance (including in some cases of, for example, undefended pitch like in other matches). Some other matches randomly taught that "dominating ball possession is one, taking initiative from it is another thing."
Given the notable key players from both teams, their role in both coordinating and ensuring their teammates' individual (and collective) qualities out will be tested. A unique case will emerge for Argentina, as because of the yellow cards' blizzard in the match against the Netherlands, going too hard could be costly, as 2 players are already out of this match due to card accumulation. While making the most out of the current line-up is a definite homework, realize that Croatia can bring this match to the distance once again: brace ourselves, they might get to their second consecutive final from a penalty shootout. Will they? It is worth seeing what is going to happen next.

Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain fought back from a goal down to earn a hard-fought point at Lyon.
The hosts held their lead, courtesy of Lucas Paqueta's seventh-minute strike, for 69 minutes until substitute Thilo Kehrer equalised.
Kylian Mbappe hit the post in each half with fine curling efforts, while Marquinhos drew a good save out of Lyon keeper Anthony Lopes.
PSG lead Nice by 11 points, while Lyon are 11th after a fourth straight draw.
Lionel Messi was one of four PSG players forced out of the game due to testing positive for Covid-19, the Argentine remaining in his homeland until he returns a negative test result.
Neymar was also absent as he continued to recover from an ankle injury that is likely to keep him out of action for at least the next three weeks.
Lyon opened the scoring when Bruno Guimaraes' superb long pass was chested down and controlled by Paqueta, before the Brazilian shot low into the bottom corner.
Mbappe struck the post from open play before the break, while his effort in the second half came from a free-kick as PSG pressed.
But a trio of substitutions by boss Mauricio Pochettino on 69 minutes proved decisive with Edouard Michut's cross finding fellow replacement Kehrer, who scored for the first time since February 2020 to secure a draw for the runaway leaders.

'11 wins 1 draw' Samba Corps 22nd consecutive World Cup final
토토 사이트, 카지노 사이트, 파워볼 사이트, 온라인 카지노, 토토먹튀,파워볼먹튀,카지노먹튀
Brazil, the 'Samba Corps', became the first South American country to qualify for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Brazil defeated Colombia 1-0 in the South American qualifying match for the Qatar World Cup on the 12th at the Arena Corinthian in Sao Paulo, Brazil. As a result, Brazil, which continued their undefeated streak with 11 wins and 1 draw (34 points) in 12 qualifying matches, confirmed their place in the finals regardless of the results of the remaining matches. Brazil is the fourth team to qualify for the finals after host Qatar and Europe's Germany and Denmark.
10 countries will participate in the South American qualifiers, and the top 4 teams will go straight to the finals in a home-and-away league. The fifth-placed team will advance to Qatar through an intercontinental playoff.
Brazil, which secured at least 4th place in 12 matches, continued its record of qualifying for all World Cup finals for the 22nd time in its career and the only one in the world. Germany has advanced to the Qatar Games for the 18th consecutive time (20 in total), succeeding Brazil. After winning the World Cup five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002), Brazil is challenging Qatar to regain the top spot for the first time in 20 years. After winning the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, Brazil's best performance was 4th in the 2014 tournament held in their home country.
In the match, Lucas Paqueta (Lyon) scored the winning goal. In the 27th minute of the second half, Neymar received a pass from Neymar, and Paqueta scored a right-footed shot between the central defense in the penalty area, giving him a ticket to Qatar.
Ecuador defeated Venezuela 1-0 at home and secured their 6th win (2 draws and 5 losses) in the South American qualifiers, finishing third (20 points) behind Brazil and Argentina (25 points). Chile beat Paraguay 1-0 and placed 4th (16 points, +1 goal difference).

Brazil vs. Uruguay result: Neymar, Raphinha put on a show in World Cup qualifier
Tumblr media
What could the No. 1 team in the South American World Cup standings and No. 2 in the FIFA world ranking really use right now? How about another attacker? It found one in Raphinha, who scored two goals in his first start for the senior men’s team, helping Brazi log its 10th win in 11 qualifying matches, 4-1 over Uruguay.
The matchup between the two traditional South American powers was supposed to be the marquee matchup with the Uruguayans fielding big names Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani together in a bid to come away with points from the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus. But the visitors were thoroughly outclassed by the skill, speed and fluidity of the Brazilians, whose attacks were often spectacular in nature.
Brazil barely broke a sweat by the time it found itself 2-0 up after 18 minutes. First Neymar latched onto a floated ball into the box over the top of the defense. He worked his magic and found a seam in the defensive cover on the goal line for the 1-0 lead. The Raphinha scored his two goals. The first one was a simple putback, but the second one capped a sweeping attack that started just outside Brazil’s penalty area.

Brazil vs. Uruguay live updates, highlights from World Cup qualifier
Standings & results: Updated World Cup qualifying table
(All times Eastern)
Final: Brazil 4, Uruguay 1
83rd min.: Goal Brazil! It’s 4-1 thanks to a header finish from Gabriel Barbosa on a sensational ball from Neymar. The referee needed the VAR to verify that Gabigol wasn’t offside and the thumbs-up finally came through.
77th min.: Luis Suarez scores! It was a free kick and he finishes it with relative ease. With 13 minutes left, there’s still hope. First, a hydration break and a talking to from the coach. That was only the fourth goal conceded by Brazil during qualifying.
73rd min.: Neymar creates another chance, feeding Gabigol in the box and his shot is stopped.
71st min.: SUBS – Fabinho and Raphinha come off. Douglas Luiz and Everton Ribeiro take their place. Like-for-like subs.
66th min.: SUB – Uruguay bring on Facundo Torres for Matias Vecino. Moments later it was Brazil attacker Antony making the defensive play deep in his own end. If Brazil’s attackers defend like that, who has a shot against them?
65th min.: And the two Brazil subs combine in the box and nearly score. Antony pokes the ball to Gabigol whose first-time shot is tipped over the bar by Muslera. Great save.
61st min.: SUBS – With the result out of reach, the subs begin. Gabriel Jesus does not get his goal and he comes off for Gabigol. Lucas Paqueta also gets a round of applause with Antony coming in. Those are some quality subs to bring on. It’s going to be a long 30 minutes for Uruguay.
58th min.: Goal Brazil! In five passes, Brazil went from their own penalty area to Uruguay’s. Neymar fed Raphinha in stride and he buried it. Fantastic move, fantastic finish. Brazil has been brilliant.
51st min.: Again Gabriel Jesus! His teammates are trying to find him, but Muslera denied him again. It was a predictable shot and Muslera read it the entire way.
49th min.: Gabriel Jesus with a shot on goal and Muslera has to punch away. He wants to get in on the act.
46th min.: Second half is underway and Uruguay make three changes: Caceres, Piquerez and Torreira are on for De La Cruz, Vina and Nandez. No changes for Brazil.
Halftime: Brazil 2, Uruguay 0
Halftime: Deserved lead for Brazil. Whenever its attacking stars were on the ball — Neymar, Raphinha and Lucas Paqueta — they are just dancing past the Uruguayans. They’re on another level of skill and it shows. The goals were examples of that superiority. Uruguay needs a miracle to get something out of this game.
43rd min.: Fabinho gets a yellow and concedes a free kick to Uruguay. Brazil manage the danger.
39th min.: What a chance for Brazil! Raphinha is putting on a show with Neymar. The two combine in the box and Uruguay’s Muslera needs to make a save on a point-blank Neymar shot or it could’ve been 3-0.
28th min.: Paqueta having himself a game. He nutmegs a defender and his ball in the box goes out to Fabinho who fires way high.
18th min.: Another goal for Brazil! It’s Raphinha. He’s at the far right post to pick up the pieces on a shot that was saved and he puts it home for the easy finish. Brazil barely breaking a sweat.
10th min.: Goal Brazil! It’s Neymar! What a goal it was. Fred floats the ball into the penalty area for Neymar’s run. The PSG man rounds the ‘keeper and fires the ball past the defenders waiting on the line. Well-worked goal.
7th min.: Neymar goes down just outside the penalty area, but the referee wasn’t in the penalty-giving mood. Neymar didn’t complain much on that one.
4th min.: Calm start to this match. Teams are not really attacking each other just yet. The crowd is not into it. They’re waiting for the players to make the first move.
1st min.: After a moment of silence for COVID-19 victims, we’re off.
8:29 p.m.: We’re just about ready to kick off here:

Brazil vs. Uruguay: Betting odds & prediction
Odds courtesy of DraftKings
Pick: Brazil -1 Asian Handicap (-115)
Although Uruguay had its chances against Argentina on Sunday, the 3-0 loss was an accurate reflection of the difference in talent between the two sides. It will be the same case in Manaus, and while the result may not turn out to be quite as lopsided, Brazil should at least be one goal better. Brazil also has the best team defense in the tournament — three goals allowed in 10 games — and won’t get scored on easily.
The Brazil -1 Asian Handicap may not be wildly adventurous, but neither is the play we’ll see between these two teams. It’s decent protection if the Selecao have an off day in front of goal.
Prediction: Brazil 2, Uruguay 0
Moneyline: Brazil -210 / Draw +310 / Uruguay +750
Spread (Asian Handicap): Brazil -1 (-110) / Uruguay +1 (+100)
O/U 2.5 total goals: Over +130 / Under -160
Both teams to score: Yes +155 / No -205

Tumblr media
The knock coming from your door made your nerves flare up. You knew it was Lucas coming to pick you up for your date. After weeks of flirting, he finally asked you out. You checked over your outfit before running over to the door.
When you opened it, you see Lucas holding a gorgeous bouquet of your favorite flowers.
“Such a gentleman, aren’t you?” You tease, giving him a peck on the cheek. You set the bouquet in your kitchen, reminding yourself to put it in a vase before heading back to Lucas.
“Gotta be one for my favorite girl.” He chuckles, leading you to his car and opening the door for you. A faint blush appeared on your cheek as you thank him, getting in his car.
He took you to a local restaurant. It was fancy and the interior was gorgeous. The meals were extravagant and were just as good as they looked. You found yourself enjoying your date with Lucas. His presence made you calm and happy. That was until you heard whispers followed by a camera click and saw a flash. You tensed up immediately and he was quick to notice.
“Are you alright, y/n?” Lucas asks, his voice full of concern at seeing you suddenly tense up. You look around the restaurant and see a group of girls whispering and staring at you.
“Yeah- I’m- I’m fine. What were you saying again?” You quickly turn back to him, trying to ignore the stares. He started to explain something. You tried to focus, you truly did but the whispers kept bothering you. You hear a camera click a few more times.
“I’m sorry to interrupt you, but are those girls behind me taking pictures of us?” You lean in close and whisper to him, paranoid that they might hear you. Lucas looks behind your shoulder and sees the group of girls. They all started smiling once they see him looking at them. They wave at him to which he shyly waves in reply.
“Wait, do you know them?”
Lucas lets out a nervous chuckle, scratching the back of his neck as he focuses back on you. “I have something to confess.” He says. You look at him confused at his choice of words.
“What is it?”
“I’m kinda famous…”
“Kinda?!” You exclaim kinda loudly. You cover your mouth with your hand and lean close to him. You whisper again, “Kinda?”
“I play for Brazil’s national soccer team. I also played in the world cup…” He trails off. He notices your wide eyes and mouth, clearly you were shocked at his confession. “Surpresa?”
“Playing for Brazil’s national soccer team means you’re more than kinda famous! Oh my, is that why people were taking pictures of us?” You immediately start overthinking and panicking at the thought of pictures of you being spread all over the internet. “My makeup looks bad and this dress doesn’t fit me right. People are gonna think I’m not good enough, the internet is scary you know? I’m on a date with a famous soccer player-“
You were quickly interrupted by Lucas grabbing your hands and holding onto them tightly. “Y/n, you don’t have to worry about any of that. You look gorgeous. Who cares what people on the internet think of you? I’m on a date with you and I like you, that’s all that matters.”
You take a deep breath. His words helped you calm down and you give his hand a light squeeze. “Yeah, you’re right. I’m- i’m fine. I’m the one on a date with you, not them.”
He smiles at you as he squeezes your hand back. “Do you want to leave? I can ask for the bill.”
“Yes, please.”
Lucas quickly flags down the waiter and asks for the bill. He makes sure to leave exact change and some extra for tip. He grabs your hand and helps you up.
“Well, what a surprise that was.” You blurt out in between giggles once you were both safe and sound in his car. He couldn’t help but laugh along with you.
“Sorry for not telling you earlier, y/n. I was just scared.” Lucas tried to explain but you quickly shush him. You grab his hand, holding onto it tightly as he drives back to your home.
“I understand, Lucas. It’s okay. You just have to make up that big surprise for me. How about we watch a movie at my place and just cuddle?”
“You got yourself a deal, y/n.”

Copa America memories: Messi's moment dominates a unique competition
Tumblr media
4:00 AM ETThe Copa America ended on Saturday night with glory for Lionel Messi and Argentina, after the legendary forward finally won his first major title at the senior level after nine losing efforts. What will we take away from South America's flagship tournament after so much turmoil and uncertainty around who would host? (Brazil stepped in late after a surge in coronavirus cases made it too difficult for Argentina and Colombia to fulfill the honors.)ESPN's Tim Vickery recaps the biggest talking points and reflections from the competition.- Argentina's team effort leads Messi to victory
Messi's moment will change how the tournament is remembered
Thirteen years ago, it was Angel Di Maria who raced away to score the only goal against Nigeria that gave Argentina the Olympic gold medal in Beijing. On Saturday night at the Maracana in Rio, the same player did it again, bringing to an end his country's 28-year wait for a title at the senior level. But part of the success of the Di Maria story is his willingness to be part of the supporting cast. Saturday was, of course, Lionel Messi's moment, which will certainly have a huge effect on the way that history looks back at the 47th version of the world's oldest continental tournament.A Brazil triumph would have been the same old story: the hosts maintaining their recent superiority over all their continental rivals, retaining the trophy and keeping up their record of winning every Copa on home soil.- Stream ESPN FC Daily on ESPN+ (U.S. only) - Don't have ESPN? Get instant accessThe lack of news on the pitch would surely have resulted in more space being awarded to all the pre-tournament controversy, from the late switch of host nation and games going ahead while the COVID-19 death toll kept rising, down to the clumsy and chaotic last-minute decision to have a few thousand supporters in the stadium for the final. Little of this will be forgotten, but the fact that Messi (at 34) now has his first international title is the kind of dramatic development that dominates headlines and memories. All those bar-room discussions about the identity of the best player of all-time now need readjustment. The heavy artillery against Messi -- that he's never "done it" for Argentina -- has now been silenced, too. And it's not just the enduring image of Argentina's captain holding up the trophy, but the level of his performances throughout the competition.Messi was not man of the match in the final, an honour that probably belongs to Rodrigo De Paul -- with Di Maria also in the running -- but Messi was undoubtedly the player of the tournament. Of all the 12 goals that Argentina scored in the Copa America, the last was the only one in which he was not involved.Messi's coronation at the Copa America in terms of his first major title with Argentina will go a long way to dominating memories of a wild and unique Copa America. Lucio Tavora/Xinhua via Getty Images
South American pitches falling behind
Much of the Maracana pitch was specifically relaid for the final and appeared to hold up reasonably well. The same could not be said of the other playing surfaces, with the worst grade going to the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos across town in Rio de Janeiro. Argentina complained about it after their first match, and Brazil were in some despair about having to play both their quarterfinal and semifinal on a pitch that caused the ball to "hop" about like a mad frog. The standard of the pitches generally was far from satisfactory and while there an obvious excuse -- Brazil stepped in at the last moment without any opportunity to make the necessary improvements -- this explanation should be swatted away with the contempt it deserves for two reasons.First, much the same was heard about the pitches for the 2019 Copa, which Brazil did have time to prepare for. Second -- and this is the key point -- these are the pitches on which Brazilian football is normally played. This is not a peripheral point to make, and it gets to the heart of the current imbalance between the state of the game on both sides of the Atlantic. The rapid development of western European football is not only down to signing the best players from South America and the rest of the planet. Europe is also producing talent and playing a fast paced, technically accomplished brand of the game that's dependent on the excellence of the playing surface.South America is falling behind. In Brazil's case, this is not just a financial question -- think of the fortune that was spent on building stadiums for the 2014 World Cup, even though maintaining them isn't nearly as noteworthy. Rather, the Brazilian calendar makes it hard: there are so many games and little time for a break, but that doesn't obscure how not enough thought is being given to the pitches, and the consequences have become clear. It perhaps helps explain why a country the size of Brazil cannot come up with a player of the quality of Kevin De Bruyne in recent years. And if Brazilian football, with its size and resources, cannot do it, what hope is there for the rest of South America?
Next stop: the World Cup
Brereton, right, has been a superb find for Chile and has become the perfect focal point for their attack. DOUGLAS MAGNO/AFP via Getty ImagesThe COVID-19 pandemic restricted international football in South America last year to just four rounds of World Cup qualifiers last year, but they'll make up for lost time with a punishing schedule in 2021. There are another 12 rounds to be slotted in before the end of next March and at the moment, it's not entirely clear how this will be achieved, even with the creation of an extra FIFA date in late-January.Yet the extra time that national team coaches had had with their players during the Copa America ought to be beneficial to that grueling qualification. Options and depth have been explored, new players have broken through. Chile, for example, are delighted with the discovery of English-born forward Ben Brereton, and Peru are at least as happy with their Italian-born striker, Gianluca Lapadula. Left out of the early games, Colombian winger Luis Diaz emerged with such brilliance that he undoubtedly became one of the players of the competition. As ever, tournament football comes at a fast pace and heroes emerge over the course of a month. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez certainly fits that bill.It is some time since Argentina have been able to field a top-tier goalkeeper. After Russia 2018, coach Lionel Scaloni looked at eight keepers; Martinez was the eighth to get a look, but the Aston Villa shot-stopper is surely here to stay. He had an exceptional Copa and will fill Argentina with hope that, with an improved defence and one last dance for Messi and Di Maria, glory at Qatar 2022 might not be an impossible dream. For Brazil, much will depend on how coach Tite reacts to the defeat in the final. Brazil are 100% perfect so far in World Cup qualification, and there's no need to panic after losing at the Maracana on Saturday. But critics will be primed and the atmosphere will quickly become more turbulent if results slide; until, at least, Tite can consolidate Lucas Paqueta in the XI, improve the circulation of the ball in midfield and keep the team calmer under pressure. With two goals conceded in five games and, on paper, plenty of firepower, Uruguay have shown that they can be competitive. Third-place Colombia have potential, but will surely need to mend the relationship with playmaker James Rodriguez, who was left out of the Copa squad, on the road to Qatar. And even without a win, Ecuador showed that they have an interesting young generation. Lying third in World Cup qualification, they hope that the likes of Moises Caicedo and Gonzalo Plata can carry them to Qatar, and put up a fight once they arrive. With just under a year-and-a-half to go, one of the legacies of this strange and controversial Copa is that it has whetted the appetite for the next World Cup. Brazil vs. Argentina: Result, highlights, live score from 2021 Copa America final
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lionel Messi has finally done it. After so many championship final heartbreaks with Argentina, the 34-year-old Messi won his first major title with his national team after a 1-0 win over archrivals Brazil in the 2021 Copa America final held in Rio de Janeiro.
The Copa America triumph ended a 28-year drought for Argentina, which last one the title in 1993. It also marked the first time Brazil has failed to win a Copa America tournament that it has hosted.
A 22nd minute goal by Angel Di Maria was all that Argentina needed in a chippy final with nine yellow cards. Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, who was the best player on the field, found Di Maria on the right wing with a long through ball that beat Brazil’s high line. Di Maria controlled it and lofted it over Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who came off his line to challenge.

Brazil brought in reinforcements in the second half, but it could never muster a response. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was called into action on two important plays in the second half, parrying shots by Richarilson and Gabriel Jesus. There was also a penalty shout when Gabriel Jesus took a late tumble in the box, but it was a Brazil with too few ideas on the night and it ultimately never found the equalizer.
Messi had a great chance to put his stamp on the match with two minutes remaining, but he uncharacteristically hesitated and slipped in a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper, allowing Ederson the chance to scoop the ball off his feet. He won’t care. He has his trophy with Argentina and one of the greatest players in the history of the game will never have to hear the questions again.
Brazil vs. Argentina final score
  1H 2H Final Brazil 0 0 0 Argentina 1 0 1
Goal: ARG: Di Maria (De Paul) – 22nd min.
Brazil vs. Argentina updates and highlights
Final: Brazil 0, Argentina 1
10:05 pm ET: Messi and Neymar shared a moment before the trophy ceremony.
95th min: Argentina did it! Messi has finally done it! Argentina wins the Copa America for the first time since 1993.
90th min: Five minutes of stoppage time. Clock’s running out for Brazil.
88th min: Messi was 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper and he blew it! He lost his footing and Ederson took advantage and snagged the ball.
87th min: What a save by Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez. Great coordination by Gabigol who volleyed on goal. “Dibu” stopped it.
83rd min:  Brazil’s Danilo with a shot that’s way high after a corner kick didn’t work out for Brazil. The sense of desperation is growing.
79th min: Three subs for Argentina: Pezzella in for fellow center back Romero, who seems to be injured. Exequiel Palacios in for Angel Di Maria and Nico Gonzalez for Lautaro Martinez. Argentina took out its best forwards. It’s about defending the lead with 10 minutes left.
78th min: Gabigol (Gabriel Jesus) goes down in the box, but referee says no penalty. Argentina’s Guido Rodriguez was a little too casual in his own box and didn’t see Gabigol coming. Not enough for a PK.
76th min: Two subs for Brazil. Paqueta in fact comes out and Gabriel Jesus “Gabigol” is in. Emerson is also in for Brazil left back Renan Lodi, who was sitting on a yellow.
72nd min: Brazil’s Paqueta proceeds to pick up a yellow. He might be coming out after what’s been a poor game.
71st min: Ball filters into the Argentina box for Lucas Paqueta, but Argentina’s Tagliafico cuts across to defend him expertly. Where’s Firmino at?
70th min: Brazil’s Hernan Lodi is the latest player with a yellow. He took down De Paul near midfield. Brazil don’t have any ideas. Looking good for Argentina.
67th min: Another Argentina midfielder picks up a yellow for a foul on Neymar – this time it’s Rodrigo De Paul, who’s having himself a game.
62nd min: After a dangerous set piece by Argentina, subs are coming in. Argentina left back Nicolas Tagliafico comes in for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who was sitting on a yellow (Acuna will move up to midfield). And Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. also subs in for Everton, who was invisible.
56th min: Neymar goes down in the box (way too easy) and Argentina’s Montiel let’s him have it. The two are jawing. No penalty.
54th min: Richarlison is open on the right side again and he gets a shot off that Argentina GK Emiliano Martinez parries away at the near post.
54th min: SUB – Leandro Paredes, carrying a yellow, is coming out. Guido Rodriguez, who started the Copa America semifinal, is in the game.
52nd min: Richarlison scores, but he’s just offside. Still 1-0 Argentina.
51st min: Argentina’s Lo Celso gets a yellow for an ugly foul on Neymar. Now it’s both Lo Celso and Paredes in the referee’s book. It was just Fred with a yellow for Brazil, but he’s out of the game.
46th min: Second half is underway. Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is in the game for Brazilian midfielder Fred. That leaves Casemiro alone at holding mid to protect the back line.
Halftime: Brazil 0, Argentina 1
Halftime: That’s it for the first 45. Argentina will feel great about the way things are shaping up. The Albiceleste have the lead and Brazil hasn’t caused them many issues in the back. Brazil coach Tite is going to have to make some subs. The home team needs a spark.
1 – Argentina had just one shot on target and three total shots in the first half against Brazil, the fewest they’ve had in the first half of a Copa América game since the 2-0 defeat against Brazil in the semi-final in 2019 (0 on target, 6 total). Efficient. pic.twitter.com/yOPkqFPWXw
— OptaJoao (@OptaJoao) July 11, 2021
43rd min: Argentina right back Montiel has to clear the ball away for a corner, first of the match. Neymar’s corner kick was headed and bounced near the penalty spot, but no one could direct it on goal.
37th min: Goal scorer Di Maria is injured on the sidelines. Didn’t look good (ankle twist?), but after some treatment he’s back on and trying to shake it off.
33rd min: Now it’s Argentina’s Leandro Paredes with a yellow for a foul on Neymar, who was running at goal. Free kick for Brazil in range, but Neymar sends it off the wall.
32nd min: Not much has happened since the goal. But Lionel Messi just made a tackle that shows you just how bad he wants this trophy.
22nd min: GOAL! Argentina takes the lead. Rodrigo De Paul long ball to Angel Di Maria who beats Brazil left back Renan Lodi and lofts it over the ‘keeper. Brazil is stunned.
[embedded content]
18th min: This is how rough the tackles are: Check out what happened to Neymar’s shorts.
16th min: Best highlight of the first quarter-hour:
13th min: First real threat and it’s Neymar nearly getting a shot off, but Argentina’s Cuti Romero thwarts the chance. The hard challenges are flying and the complaining has begun.
11th min: It’s been stop-start in the opening 10 minutes. Cautious opening by both teams. When Argentina attacks, they’re looking to go down the left side to start.
8th min: Messi has a “get your hands off me” vibe in this photo with his so-called friend:
3rd min: Already a yellow card! Brazil’s Fred gets cautioned for going studs up on Gonzalo Montiel, but it should be a red! No way the ref will show him a red card in the 3rd minute.
1st min: We’re a minute into the game and the Uruguayan referee already has words for Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni! This is going to be good.
7:56 p.m. ET: Anthems are done. Time for the game:
7:52 p.m. ET: Here’s what the crowd is looking like in the Maracana:
No será la Eurocopa y más estando como están las cosas en Brasil. Pero ver a público en la final de la Copa América, aunque sea así, es maravilloso. pic.twitter.com/m7pFMkrKlO
— Luis Calabor Núñez (@LuigiFT_) July 10, 2021
7:48 p.m. ET: With only 10 percent of the stadium open to fans, there should be plenty of seats for everyone. It’s not clear what the rush is:
7:42 p.m. ET: Argentina’s record against Brazil when Messi plays is not great:
11 – Lionel Messi has played 11 games against Brazil (W4 D1 L6), one of the defeats in the Copa América 2007 final. Messi has scored five goals against Brazil, his second highest tally against National Teams (alongside with Bolivia and Chile, behind Ecuador’s six). Motivation. pic.twitter.com/N1YoJFA1Ow
— OptaJoao (@OptaJoao) July 10, 2021
7:41 p.m. ET: Argentina in a 4-4-2? It was rumored in the Argentine press, but the official CONMEBOL roster confirms it:
7:39 p.m. ET: History doesn’t look good for Argentina against Brazil:
7:07 p.m. ET: Inside Brazil’s locker room before pregame warmups:
6:50 p.m. ET: Lionel Messi and Argentina are in the house at the Maracana.
