Art of my dear Luna to go with this poem I wrote for her.

I really really love the way this piece ended up looking. Luna is such a special character to me, her journey and her personality and her inner struggles are so different yet so similar to my own. She’s come to represent a lot for me, and growing her a character means growing as a person too.

To think she was just my version of Virgil, meant to represent my ‘guardedness’ which I now realize actually was just anxiety. So I guess I came full circle. 

Luna was a lot of things for me back then. She’s the one most based off my own physical appearance, so she’s a mixed Hispanic who’s insanely emo, since I used to feel unsure about that for myself. She’s blunt and sometimes too aggressive, she’s tragic and messy, she has deep seeded rage and abandonment issues. She doesn’t always make the right choices. Sometimes she breaks things instead of fixing them. She’s afraid of losing. She’s quick to jump to isolating herself and slow to trust. I think 14 yr old me really needed a character like her. So I made her.

I stand in the middle of the rising waters,

Cradling my fragile heart,

Or what little of it I have left.

I'm sorry that I have put us here,

I wish I could lie and say I didn't foresee it,

But I could see our fate from forever away.

I've always picked people who would hurt us.

I've always chased the ones with claws.

I make myself an easy meal.

Some broken part of me wants it.

I want to find somebody with a beautiful mind.

I want them to be wise enough to know I'm not human like them.

In their wisdom, they accept my love.

In return I am struck down.

They see through me.

Oh how I've always adored lovers who are wise.

Wise enough to realize they deserve more than me.

Wise enough to not love me how I love them.

I seek one cold hearted beauty after another.

And when I lick my wounds after they're done with me,

All I feel is love.

Our arrangement is divided fairly.

I get what I deserve.

Some part of me doubts it, but it's nothing but pity.

How I adored their distance intelligence,

Their perceptive scorn.

They are too brilliant to fall for my fake worthiness.

Now I'm standing in the dark,

Holding my brittle heart,

And I can't help but weep at what I put it through.

The Poem for Luna.

I was getting used to it,

The way fire chapped my skin.

I was okay with burning my fingertips.

I was okay with singed feet.

I welcomed the scent of gasoline lighting in my nostrils.

I embraced the blistering heat as it peeled back my flesh.

Do not think of me as a fool. Even you could not feel sharp glass and dull daggers over the roar of a living hearth.

A blaze catching my hair was Tuesday,

Wednesday was when my lungs filled with thick smoke. 

I didn't look far enough to see the day after that.

My tears turned to steam before they could run down my cheeks,

My mouth erupted with flames when I opened it.

I savored every self imposed minute in which I could understand Joan's final breath. I craved the solidarity.

The fire was ever present.

The fire took the world and made fuel.

The fire fed me diligently.

The fire enveloped me when no one would.

It lit my path.

I did not expect the ash to take it's place.

Dying embers,

Black soot,

Burnt remains,

Charred visions.

Now I am left stuck in the cold
