Into the Labyrinth
Spite, Athinri, Tanwyn, and the others go to save the master of peace, and Spite makes a connection.
Words: 898
Next part
Spite creeped into the makeshift vine room, there were dead Mordrem strewn about, nearly tripping Kasmeer, who ran to a strange man huddled in the center of the room. Caithe and Tanwyn followed suit, albeit more carefully.
The man was clearly injured, bleeding out from many wounds, and from the drained and damaged crystals surrounding him Spite assumed that he was the Master Of Peace they were looking for.
As she scanned the room, instinctually looking for hidden threats, her hands stabbed her sword into the sand as she moved forward, chasing the feeling of a tugging string. It was like a pleading ‘come to me, please, stay with me’ and her body was following it. As her mind was still processing it her hands reached out, and the Master Of Peace carefully placed something in her hands. When she looked down, a warm shimmering egg was there, and she could feel the pulsing, thrumming life in her claws.
It was…
Mesmerizing.
There was such a familiar feeling in the egg, and she could tell it felt it too. The warmth from the egg rose up her arm and curled around it, as if seeking her comfort. There was this love for this egg that she didn’t think she'd have bubbling up inside of her, making a smile appear on her face. This little one was so small, so fragile, so beautiful in that moment she knew she would give anything to protect it. It almost was too much, nearly consuming her entirely.
And then it was gone.
The once all consuming love was replaced with terror. Terror for what could have taken the egg, and what it would do to it.
She couldn't stand it.
Her body pounced on what she assumed was another mordrem, digging her claws into leafy flesh. Her mind only caught up with her body when she released a deep growl and caught the glint of oh so familiar blue eyes.
“Caithe? Why-”
Caithe cut her off by thrashing in her claws, terrified eyes closing in pain as she ripped an arm out from Spite’s hold, and ran.
“No time to explain!” And with a puff of smoke she was gone.
“Caithe! Wait! What do you think you're doing?”
“Burn me! She has the egg!”
“Sister, wait–” Athinri called out, trying to stop her mentor.
Tanwyn, however, was not willing to rely on words, and with a puff of smoke she was gone too.
“Spirits! Now we’re down two weeds!” Braham spit out, huffing in anger.
Jory smacked his arm, “She’s going to track her, she’s going to be back.”
“Are you sure? Her sister is-”
“Not her.” Athinri said, on the verge of tears, “She has to come back, they both do…”
Spite curled her sap drenched fist and punched the ground, “Burn me! Burn it all! I had her in my claws! I let her escape!”
“Commander…” A weak voice called out, cutting through her anger, ”Come, I don’t have long…”
Spite turned and kneeled next to him, eyes not breaking contact with him.
“I have something I can no longer protect… You-” The Master of Peace began to cough up blood for a moment, “You must find it, find it and protect the egg with all you have, it is the last light in this dark world.”
Spite could feel the grip on her wrist weaken, he didn’t have long. “I will. I'll protect it. Whatever it takes from me.”
“Thank you…” and he was gone.
As morbid silence fell over them, Spite closed his eyes. “What did the Aspect Masters say? May Glint find you in the darkness, and show you to the light.”
Hours later, they were sitting together in Camp Resolve. Trahearne stood behind Spite with a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“I still can’t believe she took the egg…” Spite grumbled, covering Trahearne’s hand with her own and leaning on him.
Marjory looked up at them, “Boss, no one wants to say it, but… She’s sylvari…”
Athinri, Spite and Trahearne looked down at her, a little angry.
“So what?” Athinri said, glaring at Jory, who paled a little at the sight of the three glaring at her. “Nothing, Ri! I just… Why would she take off with it? She wouldn’t be the first sylvari we’ve known who-”
Spite growled, interrupting her, “It’s not a Sylvari thing. But she can be difficult to read, even for me.”
Marjory nodded,“How well do you know her?”
“Fairly well, I've lost count of how many times she saved me or someone I care about.”
Athinri perked up, scratching behind her pup's ear, “I've known her since I was in my dream! She's always done things for the greater good, though she does have an odd way of doing it..”
Trahearne nodded in agreement, “Since she was a Sapling she's always taken burdens all on herself, she had to have done it for a reason.”
“Yeah! She must have been protecting the egg! We should thank her when we get with her again.”
Rox stood up, brushing the dust off of her knees,“Well, whatever her motive was, we need to go after her.”
“She's right,” Spite agreed, "we can't wait here to see if Tanwyn will send word. Jory, Athinri, and I will go to the Grove and speak to The Pale Tree, the rest of you wait here.”

I still don’t like the way the party treats the commander after the Omadd’s Machine, but the way the commander talks about it makes some weaver lines feel a little more unhinged

How about Kerra being reunited with everyone's favorite cactus, at a certain very political garden party! ^^
Hi hi, and gladly!! :D This managed to hide out in my inbox for Ages, so so sorry, and my brain won’t cooperate enough to write a full fic, but I offer you this:
Kerra, Nisha, and Kas are the three who attend the party.
They walk into the pavilion, and people notice, because of course they do. The Commander, another important figure in the Pact, and the daughter of a disgraced noble are a group that stands out, particularly in a crowd of DR’s finest (so to speak).
(The herald stammers his way through their titles. He’s a bit lost on Nisha and Kas, but he deals.)
They walk up to the dais and greet Anise, who says a few kind words to Kas. Kerra and Nisha nod, and their gazes drift to the sylvari standing beside her.
Kerra says hello and fancy seeing you here, lightly. It’s not shouted, but it’s not quiet, and people are abruptly paying just a smidge more attention than before. Those with a poorer understanding of the situation are expecting violence; others are mainly anticipating tension; still others were already watching Canach, and Kerra and Nisha are now simply in the line of fire.
Those who are particularly skilled observers might see Kerra’s eyes dart around and narrow, or Nisha’s back straighten, or them both sway just slightly closer together. Anyone watching, though, sees the short conversation that follows, and a host of halfway full but sincere smiles before the guests retreat from the dais to the crowd.
And an even larger group catches Kerra spitting out her drink in laughter later, thanks to her overhearing one of Canach’s verbal jabs at Anise.

i love Softe Boi trahearne as much as anyone but i wanna see some Mad Guy Trahearne
like we get some hints of him getting pissed in the personal story:
during “a different dream” (the mission in the malyck storyline where you visit amaranda the lonesome), he's talking to a courtier and lowkey threatens her with the line "if you've hurt Amaranda, you will find that the wrath of a firstborn is something to fear!", implying that he’s Scary when he gets mad (even if the courtier thinks he’s a dweeb and not scary at all)
during “reunion with the pact” (going to camp resolve after the pale tree gets attacked), if you’re a sylvari he mentions “Our poor mother. This feeds my desire to stop this Elder Dragon in its tracks. It will know the burn of my wrath.” and you have to tell him to calm down, to which he says “Thank you for being the voice of reason. I occasionally fall victim to my rage.”
also, in the “dream and nightmare” introduction story to the sylvari, after they get malomedies back from the asura, trahearne is Mad but is forced to deal with it courtesy of the pale tree:
Cadeyrn glanced at Trahearne, whose expression was as black as his own. No soldier would say such things. No one who had ever lifted a blade to stop oppression, or placed themselves in danger to free innocents, would say that revenge was unfitting. If Faolain and Caithe were here, they would argue his side, he was sure of it.
Abruptly, Trahearne looked up toward the spreading boughs. "Yes, Mother," he answered a whisper only he could hear. Chagrined, the necromancer unclenched his fists. "The Pale Tree says we need to concentrate on our true enemy: the dragons. Every ally will be needed." Gritting his teeth, Trahearne finished, "We make peace with the asura."
so yes i would like more Mad Guy Trahearne content
let him Go Off on someone

Who is Hesperiah Kinslayer?
Tumblr media
Behemoth. Mountain. A Bastion.
Those are just some of the words used to describe the Pact Lieutenant Hesperiah Kinslayer. While nowhere near as famous as the storied Commander, or their guild. Hesperiah has carved a name for herself among the ranks of both the Vigil, and The Pact.
Tumblr media
Despite being a hulking 9 foot 11 inches. (302.26cm). Hesperiah is often described as sociable, yet reserved by her peers. An 11 year veteran of the Vigil, and the Pact means that she has taken part in every campaign waged by The Pact during the Dragon crisis. And carries the stories and scars to prove it.
Having joined The Vigil in 1325 at just the age of 18. Hesperiah was wild, snappy, and difficult to work it. Reclusive during her training, Hesperiah spoke nothing of her past before being recruited, often giving other recruits the cold shoulder. For most of the Zhaitan crisis, she remained a lowly foot soldier in The Vigil, and much the same during the formation of the The Pact.
It wasn't until the assault on Orr where her shell began to crack, as Hesperiah made friends with a group of Gladium that comprised the squad she was attached to. Although she still she kept much to herself, Hesperiah explained that she, too, was a Gladium. and had been since she was 15.
Hesperiah's original warband had been wiped out in an ambush set up by Flame Legion posing defectors seeking asylum. It was supposed to be a simple training exercise that quickly spiraled out of control, with even her Primus being injured in the ensuing battle. At the time, Hesperiah, still too young to properly cope, was deeply scarred by the experience.
This trauma manifested in her unstoppability during battle. Cleaving through hordes, and in some cases shrugging off wounds if it meant claiming one more dragon minion head. Her sheer size, and tenacity growing into a beacon that others could rally around. After all, it was difficult not to be inspired watching her shatter her greatsword slaying an enemy, only to cast it aside and continue the fight with her bare hands.
Due to this, Hesperiah earned her promotion to Lieutenant after the defeat of Zhaitan. Having grown into a leadership role during her time in Orr, she signed on for officer training. Further cracking the shell she surrounded herself with, as she grew comfortable with the members of her order, and the Pact. Forming deeper connections with the gladia she'd come to know, as well as members of the other orders.
In 1328, The Pact suffered a cataclysmic ambush from the Jungle Dragon, Mordermoth, while confronting him over Maguuma. This being Hesperiah's second brush with death, as she became lost in the Tangled Depths following the utter chaos and confusion. Surviving for days against Chak before eventually reuniting with The Pact at Dragon's Stand. The ordeal leaving much of her armor in tatters, causing her to fashion replacements using Leystone. Although during her time in Maguuma, Hesperiah discovered her knack for Longbows, embracing her role as a Dragonhunter.
Not much is known about what Hesperiah was up to between 1328 and 1332. As she took leave during that time, along with her Squadmates. Although before she left, she had a custom Greatsword and Longbow made for her. Much larger than the standard, and made from much stronger materials. These weapons wouldn't break under the strain of her powerful swings, and could channel her magic much more effectively.
However, after she returned from her absence in early 1332, Hesperiah was now the leader of the newly formed Kin Warband, having taken the surname of Kinslayer. Comprised of the Gladia she'd grown close to over the years. Not a single one of them speaks of the events that transpired, often stating that it is not their story to tell when asked about it.
Later that year, The Pact suffered a defeat at the hands of Kralkatorrik, after they failed to slay him at Thunderhead Peak. Again, Hesperiah showed her fierce tenacity, surviving being buried alive in the aftermath of the Elder dragon fleeing. After her third brush with death, Hesperiah developed a dark sense of humor, as well as solidifying herself among her peers as truly hard to kill...
Later still, when the Charr Civil war began. Hesperiah and her War Band of course participated on behalf of the United Legions. Although they officially had no loyalty to society that discarded them, they still felt that it was a right thing to do. Especially so, after the learning the circumstances of General Almorra's death, which infuriated Hesperiah to no end.
When The Dragon Storm happened in 1334, Hesperiah once again threw herself into the fray. Wanting to witness the end of the Twin Elder Dragons for herself, and as a quiet, personal tribute to Soulkeeper, someone she looked up to fondly in her early years in the Vigil. Once Primordus and Jormag destroyed each other, Hesperiah bid farewell to Almorra, promising to carry on her legacy, just like the rest of the order.
Which meant throwing herself headlong into the Void crisis in Cantha. The Last Elder dragon. One last fight. For Almorra...
Although she didn't take part in the direct assault on Soo-Won atop the Harvest Temple, Hesperiah did what she did best: Slay Dragon minions, and be an unshakable beacon for her allies on the battlefield.
Now a well, and truly seasoned veteran Lieutenant. While she has considered applying for a high position, as some have put in recommendations for her. But for the time being, she is content with staying where she's at. Especially now that The Pact finally has a moment to rest and breathe. Hesperiah taking an extended leave of absence to travel the world, and experience life away from the battlefields of Tyria.
Maybe one day, you will cross paths with the Kinslayer herself.
