They stop him once on his way home. They don't like the look of him, say he must be Wei, so they arrest him.

They make him sit in the room for hours, hands cuffed together. He knows what they want to hear from him and says nothing.

He waits.

He comes home to a dark, cold apartment and knows, long before the runner comes.

Lao likes to go riding after work. But he always came back before him--to be there to welcome him home, his husband insists.

His husband has been detained, and he--and Wei--can't do a thing.

He waits.

A detail that probably won't become relevant for at least two parts but. For want of Mandalorians to fill the ranks, trying to decide if I want to make Lao one of the Cuy'val Dar in "beach vacation" verse.

He'd have agreed in a heartbeat because it was Jango asking. But that would mean he hasn't met Ata or Asha in this verse hence my dilemma ｡:ﾟ(;´∩`;)ﾟ:｡

Building up a roster of True Mandalorians for my various AUs (in particular Ben’bajur and time travel AU) 😎😎😎

Jaster Mereel, Mand’alor the Reformer - we all know who he is LOL

Shulin Vol - the True Mandalorians’ Armorer and buir of Sen and Obi in time travel AU.

Maivik Lao - you should know him by now lol AU in which he/his clan joined the TMs in time. He maintains his nickname as Jai’galaar this time around.

Tal Kaan - (taking inspiration from Shen from Star Wars: Squadrons) a Mando with some of the worst luck and very injury-prone. At this point, he’s pretty much a cyborg and needs his helmet on at all time to survive. 

Kal Skirata - my version of Kal, of course, where I take his backstory on getting adopted into the Mandalorians, ignore the rest of RepComm, and run wild with it. Obi’s buir in Ben’bajur.

Arana Teb - one of the TMs’ combat medics and half-Mirialan who kept her Force sensitivity quiet until Obi comes along

Rusk Brec - a Trandoshan Mandalorian! Because I can ;]

Maj Orar - one of the TMs’ best pilots thus one of the few people Jaster trusts with his ship

I’ve been working on drawing Lao’s armor design, but it’s been a lot of pain and suffering on my part LOL In the meantime, here’s what Maivik Lao looks like with his helmet off. :D

New things about him!

I based his look off of an inbetween of how Andy Lau looks in Three Kingdoms and Battle of the Warriors. 

The scars on his face are all thanks to Death Watch’s attempt to wipe out his clan post-Galidraan. Lots of shrapnel / blast damage during his fight off the planet and out of the Mandalore system. He has since been deaf in one ear and became proficient in his Mandalorian and Galactic Basic (?) sign languages.

He has pointed ears and heterochromia (because while he inherited mostly human looks, with Clan Lao being an old clan, there had definitely been some interspecies mingling in his ancestry). 

He once held the nickname of Jai’galaar for his sharp eyesight, but he gave that up when he fled the system. 

The beard is newish. Ata has mixed feelings on it LOL

ok then, hmu with anything you're willing to share about maivik lao

OMG I would be DELIGHTED to talk about Lao. He’s 1/2 of my favourite OC couple!  

So first of all, he’s like 99% of the time referred to as Lao, even to himself. Aaand he and Ata actually began life as OCs for a modern triad AU for Three Kingdoms and then got transplanted to a wuxia AU for Chirrut/Baze. I figured since I’d already used them in a Star Wars fic setting, why not in Under the Desert Sky since I already associate them with Chirrut and Baze and thus the Guardians of the Whills. And also give him/them a Not (Completely) Tragic story for once.

Anyways, you’re here for Lao in Under the Desert Sky ehehe

It’s incredibly hard to find a good screencap, and I don’t have access to my picture files, but Andy Lau in Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon is roughly how I picture Mando!Lao but without the head covering. (I’ll draw my own pic eventually.) 

Lao, like I mentioned, is an old Mandalorian (in his late 50s or so when we meet him). His clan was a traditional Mandalorian clan, rejecting Death Watch and the New Mandalorians and unofficially supportive of the True Mandalorians. At one point, Lao himself considered officially joining the TMs. Unfortunately, after the TMs were killed in Galidraan, DW turned to eliminating the remnants of the TMs and their sympathizers in the system, including Clan Lao. Through some luck, sacrifices from his clan, but also good training, Lao was able to fight his way off the planet and out of the system. He was the lone survivor from his clan. 

(He hasn’t returned to the Mandalore system since. Even when DW died down, the NMs were in control and erasing their own people’s culture. His yaim was burned to the ground. His aliit is gone. The TMs are gone. What use was there in going back?)

After that, he spent his life wandering the galaxy as a bounty hunter, and at some point, he ends up on Jedha, where he meets a handsome, mute Guardian named Ata and his little rascal of a son, Asha. Things start going his way after that :]

Oh, and his beskar’gam is deep blue and black, trimmed in silver 8D

Introducing two characters I haven’t talked about for Under the Desert Sky. Maivik Lao, an old Mandalorian whose clan was decimated by Death Watch, and Ata (family surname abandoned), a Guardian of the Whills and Lao’s husband. Together, they (and their son) give Jango a Lot of Grief. 8]
