Il linguaggio progettuale irriverente e poetico di Marcel Wanders Studio trova una nuova espressione in Skynest, la sua ultima creazione per Flos. Skynest è un esercizio di equilibrio perfetto fra eleganza, tecnica ed innovazione. La luce proviene dalla stessa struttura intrecciata, strisce di LED infatti si fondono con il tubo di tessuto per arrivare a creare una forma simile a un cesto artigianale capovolto, decisamente più sofisticato. Illumina a 360 gradi, senza proiettare ombre, ma solo una luce perfetta e altamente calibrata. Ogni singolo elemento luminoso è alimentato da speciali microconnettori posti nella parte superiore della cupola ed è ricoperto da una rete bicolore, mentre il lato rivolto verso l'interno della cupola è sempre bianco per consentire un'emissione ottimale della luce LED. Flos da sempre pone l'attenzione all'aspetto green delle sue opere, Skynest è completamente riciclabile, ogni pezzo può essere rimosso, ogni braccio LED è collegato con una connessione USB e un piccolo raccordo elettrosaldato che si inserisce nel disco centrale in alluminio. Se devi cambiare un thread, puoi sostituirlo e riagganciarlo alla struttura ad anello in alluminio della cupola attraverso un semplice sistema di incastro. The “Polarities” collection by Barovier & Toso bridges the gap between art and design, poetry and technique. Contrast and interdependence, this eternal duality inspires the collection of luminous sculptures, Polarities, born from the collaboration between Barovier & Toso and Marcel Wanders Studio. Glass weaves new trajectories and becomes a symbol of intangible entities, such as love and hate, the past and the future, universally recognized opposites that philosophers and poets have written and spoken about since ancient times, from the East to the West. The limited and numbered series collection consists of six models, each produced in only twenty-one units. Blown and hand-carved, they all feature a square stone base with a built-in lighting component. Light reveals a dual nature in the sculptures, literally generating a transformation and offering an entirely new interpretation of the artwork. Crochet Table, Marcel Wanders, 2002, Art Institute of Chicago: Architecture and Design

Marcel Wanders’s Crochet Table challenges the qualities associated with needlework as a non-structural, decorative embellishment. Playing off a minimalist vocabulary, Wanders took lacy, crocheted cotton and wrapped it over a simple rectangular form. The cotton was then coated with an epoxy to seal the surface and harden it into shape. Finally, the form within was removed, leaving a simple box that is structurally and solely made of the crocheted material.
