Greetings, frog Tumblr! Welcome to my impulsive, salt-induced Amphibia rant!!

This where I’m gonna ramble about Anne’s nonchalance and near indifference towards Marcy’s whole situation despite, not only supposedly wielding the “heart” gem (which embodies empathy, selflessness, and responsibility), but also the fact that she has been friends with Marcy since before kindergarten and has previously been very protective of her.

Alrighty, we’ll start with Anne’s relationship with Marcy in “Marcy at the Gates”!!

When Marcy is about to jump in and save Sprig from the barbariant queen, Anne stops her and says she can do it herself. Marcy argues and asks about why she won’t let her go before Anne shouts, “Because I just got you back, okay?!” She then adds:

So worried and sensitive, right? Well, let’s move onto “True Colors” :)

When Sprig is dropped by Andrias, Anne is so overcome by grief and rage that she actually activates her powers for the first time. She didn’t even see him hit the ground, yet still seems broken by the perceived loss.

However, when Marcy, her life-long friend, gets a giant flaming sword through the chest, uses what she thought would be her last breath to apologize, and collapses lifelessly to the floor, Anne simply shouts her name then basically goes, “Oh, I’m home now. Anyways-”

She has the shiny eyes here but doesn’t shed even a single tear until “All In” after Marcy is freed. Like, girl, you watched the friend that you’ve probably know longer than anyone except your own parents get brutally murdered 5 feet in front of you. How are you fine???

Of course it’s understandable for Anne to feel betrayed by Marcy after her truth is revealed. After all, she’s been trapped away from her home and family for 5 months and near-death experiences have become a worryingly routine thing for her in Amphibia.

The thing is that, with Sasha, despite her trying to knowingly and intentionally kill Hop Pop (and at one point Sprig), Anne still later said that “Sasha and I might be going through a rough patch, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about her” (S2 E6). Plus, after Sasha showed a little remorse then let go of her hand at Toad Tower, letting herself plummet so her friend could get away, Anne was sobbing just a minute later. She even saw Grime catch her so she knew Sasha was going to be okay.

The most logical conclusion Anne should’ve come to after going through that portal was that Marcy was dead. Yet, we’ve seen her get far more worked up about someone that, not only also betrayed her, but was clearly saved and alive. And, in earlier episodes, Anne seemed so much closer to and more protective of Marcy than Sasha… So I’m honestly confused.

As far as season 3 episodes 1-15, I wanna believe that Anne was simply in denial and didn’t want to bring it up, but it’s stuff like her being “stabbed” by the toy flame sword (in “Escape to Amphibia”) and simply laughing that make it hard for me to genuinely think that. When I just saw that happen through a screen I froze and stopped breathing for a second and it took me a bit to compose myself after. But Anne lived through both the actual event and the reminder yet didn’t react?

Also when Sasha passingly mentioned that Marcy was still alive, just captured, Anne simply sighed and said “thank goodness” before changing the topic. Like????

Now for “The Beginning of the End” :D

When first faced with Darcy, Anne (and Sasha kinda, but her reaction is more expected/normal for her tbh and imma not focus on her here anyway) was initially confused but, once she knew the jist of what was happening, she was just angry. She didn’t take a second to mourn or feel bad for her friend and skipped straight to getting mad. I was expecting some sort of guilt for not getting there earlier and maybe even an attempt at an “I know you’re in there!” speech (I wouldn’t want it to work but I feel like Anne would’ve been one to try that), but guess not.

BUT THERE IS HOPE!! Marcy’s Journal is gonna have a section written by S3 Anne, so we might get some Annegst >:3. I doubt they can entirely salvage this with just a book (the show is the great majority of the story, after all), but something is better than nothing lol.

people who act like the writers had it out for marcy are probably some of my least favorite people to deal with. bad things happen to characters sometimes for the plot deal w it. or do you think that whoever wrote the lion king thought mufasa deserved death too

No but guys, the fact that Anne’s in the center of the photo as opposed to Sasha? The fact that Sasha was in the middle in the old photo because she was the leader, she was the control freak? The fact that Anne’s in the middle now because she’s the heart of the group?

Like, I always wanted the series to end with them taking another picture because it was such a key item throughout the series.

Felt like doing something funky for the one year anniversary of @maldito-arbol ‘s fic Ill Be Your Best Friend, second in the Were Just Human series!

Ive done this comic before but i thought it would be fun to do it a second time to compare and its such a good scene overall so. Its crazy that its been a year, it both feels like too long and not long enough. Im so glad i decided to read this series it is so good the writing is amazing and the characters are all so complicated and interesting, and of course all the people I’ve met and become friends with because of it! so i just wanna say thanks Mal, for deciding to write this i guess, this fic has been amazing it was a wonderful thing to look forward to every second Friday and its crazy to think i could have easily never met you or anyone else in the server or not if it hadn’t been for this series. So thanks and i hope this comic shows even a bit of my appreciation for you and your fic

And to anyone who hasn’t read the series, you should!! I Love fic 1 Marcy’s unreliable narrator and her mumbling habit keeping me on my toes trying to keep track of everything. The girls’ powers and the introduction to the gems and everything that happens with that is just *chefs kiss* amazing, and don’t even get me Started on fic 3 i cant even say anything without spoiling! So if you haven’t read it, go read it! Its such a good series and the writing and characters are incredible and agh! And if you have read it, read it again i don’t care its so good i could re-read it endlessly

The fact that Marcy still had to move in the end, with parents she hasn't even mentioned or thought about once during this entire show.

Even though she leached onto the first fatherly figure who appeared in her life, who said it was ridiculously easy to get her to talk about everything she felt and wanted and loved.

The fact that she only regretted her actions after seeing the consequences it had on her loved ones, and not because she missed anyone she left on Earth.

The fact that her worst fear was to lose her nest and only friends after moving and how she was RIGHT. Despite what Anne said. They seemed to have barely talked for ten years, even if now they're ready and willing to reconnect.

The fact that Marcy never got to have a found family from Amphibia, because the person she THOUGHT of as family stabbed her in the back again and again and again. And she never got to know anyone else well enough.

The fact that she can never go back to this place she loves.

She had to move on with her life, after going through immerse trauma, having her worse fear comes true, with parents who we didn't get any confirmation that are even good to her.

Marcy Wu deserves better.

With the start of Amphibia’s end nearly upon us I thought it would be a good time for some last minute theories as we head into the finale…

1. Sasha reunites with Percy and Braddock: With all that has happened to her since Turning Point’s episode it was bound to be time for Sasha to meet up with Percy and Braddock again and this time give a proper apology to them both and a chance to join the resistance if they want to.

2. Valeriana’s reappearance in the final three episodes: It has to happen sooner or later. Especially given Anne’s destiny in all of this.

3. Not so happily ever after ending : There is no way this series will end all Happy like as there is bound to be a few dark moments as we head into the finale and a few deaths. So there is no way there is will be a happy ending to the entire series.

4. Owl House crossover: This is the last chance for a possible Owl House Crossover. Even if it is a brief cameo appearance in these final three episodes. I mean they tease us with Easter Eggs in both shows and a read along of a possible crossover. So somehow there has to be a slim chance that Amphibia and the Owl House will meet in animation form for the actual first and last time for both shows as we enter the final episodes of Amphibia.

5. References to Sonic Heroes for the calamity trio: The sequel is out and you know the moment I am speaking about if you had seen the movie.

6. Finally seeing Sasha’s and Marcy’s parents: I mean it has happened on certain shows before so it is bound to happen for this finale, right ?

7. Boonchoy family fight as one: Sure we have seen the Boonchoy family fight alongside Anne and the Plantars, but this is the finale for the series so there are bound to be moments where the family fight as one for once, right ?

8. Polly team up with Sasha: It might happen, but it is still good to hope for it, right ?

• Self care days are a must, please just pamper this man with a nice hot bath and a massage every once in a while.

• His love language is definitely words of affirmation. He needs you to tell him how much you care about him and he loves saying the same to you. He could go on for hours about every little thing he loves about you.

• Marcy and Bonnie will come over for dinner a few times a week, sometimes joined by Finn and HW as well.

• He hates celebrating his own birthday (he’s turning 60) but he loves yours and will definitely bake you a cake and throw small birthday party for you. The party only consists of a few close friends but if you don’t like parties he’s perfectly fine with it being just the two of you.

• At first he wasn’t sure if you would even want to date an old man like him, but as time went on he became more confident in himself and that he deserves love just as much as anyone else, and he’s more than happy to share that love with you.

Bonus!

• Despite her current state, GolBetty is immensely happy seeing Simon finally able to move on and be happy.

• Even if they never got their happy ending, the fact that you and him are able to live happily together brings her peace, and she trusts you to take care of him.

i need to talk about the fact that...what stopped andrias was just. a simple letter of love. not a grand reveal of some secret ex machina. not blackmail. not leif telling him he should've known better.

no. no, it was just - her love. it was her imploring him to not turn into the very thing he did turn to. because despite it all, despite years apart and a friendship that ended up shattered into a thousand little pieces, she remembers him well. remembers him fondly, believes that he's good, that he deserves better than turning into some cruel, unfeeling monster. because she loved him, and never stopped loving either him or barrel, two ghosts that haunted her as she built wartwood from the ground up.

and. and it got him to stop, for a moment. got him to crumble, to allow a thousand years' worth of feelings to barrel (ha) through.

it was enough to do that. but andrias was right - it was too late.

the things he's done are unforgivable, the person he's become too...unflexible and broken. i sincerely hope he dies in the next episode, if he hasn't already. but this moment - this shred of humanity - is so, so important. because the most powerful thing isn't a weapon, or immorality, or lacking any emotion. the most powerful thing is love. love in the moment, or the echo of it - that's what breaks and builds. and i don't mean romantically! love and change are the core (ha!) of amphibia! as my dear friend @bloop-arts put it: love is the driving force behind every character! love pushed anne into harnassing her powers for a longer time! love and her inherent nature of wanting to protect drove sasha to defeat darcy! love had the plantars facing their worst nightmare in order to save the boonchuys! love and the belief she had in her friends pushed marcy into refusing the core! love!

even when it was too late, love managed to save. and i think that alone makes this episode a complete masterpiece, at least to me.

y'all ever just think about how sasha initially wasn't ready to forgive marcy because she couldn't understand why marcy would've been driven to desperate measures and maybe having that refusal because she's not ready recognise herself within marcy's actions

like think about it. marcy tries so hard to keep her friends together by keeping the peace, its about playing peacemaker, its in a sense, pulling the hidden strings behind the scene to keep the play going, but its also not admitting to them how she feels about everything

marcy's whole thing is that she doesn't communciate - in a sense, just like the rest of them. she doesn't communicate how she feels, but because she buries those worries and it doesn't seem Obvious because she's flourishing in amphibia, of course sasha wouldn't see it

sasha has a running theme of only wanting to see what she wants. yeah she starts working on it in season 3a and b because of the TC moment, but she's STILL working on it - she's not going to be immediately better, its something she wants to and continues to work towards

we see it with lysil and angwin - she talks about how they deserve a second chance, but at the time, she's been told why they've been banished, but as far as she's aware - she STILL hasn't been told why marcy wouldn't have trusted or talked to them so isn't ready to forgive

so of course, its only when anne spells it out to her that she only really starts to understand, and when darcy blatantly tells her that can they even consider themselves friends - because really... can she? if she hadnt even realised how she'd neglected marcys feelings

and its only then when sasha gets it. because she'd been in the same position in s2 - she'd been lost and alone, far away from the other two and seeing how they both get on so well together and feeling left out, just like marcy will when she eventually moves and what did she do?

sasha tried in the only way she knew how to, to hold onto her friends, clinging on so tight that the friendships were broken within an iron grip

Okay, I’m currently crying in the club.

While I definitely have problems with this episode, mainly the first, like, ten minutes, the rest was just me crying.

We got a lot of what we wanted. We got to see the Calamity Forms. Olivia and Yunan became a thing which I was not a hundred percent sure they were actually going to commit to beyond the hand hold so good for them. The goodbyes were when I truly started sobbing. Everyone got the closure I wanted for them honestly, even Andrias. He wasn’t forgiven per se but he did that one good thing in his life and is continuing to help rebuild the world which I’ll take.

Also can’t believe Domino being the Alpha and Omega was an actual thing, like how dare.

I love the grown up designs for the characters, especially Sasha. Finally got the short haired look, with a leather jacket. Love it.

The animation through the episode was spectacular. As expected.

But like I said, I have a problem with the first ten minutes, give or take. It feels super rushed. Like holy cow someone really hit the fast forward on this battle rushed. I think the actually battle takes like five minutes?

And then you have the Alpha Domino scene and that was…. Something. That was the bit where I was like, ok, just get to the part where you bring her back to life. I know where this is going.

So I’d say that’s really my biggest gripe with this ending. The pacing at the beginning is a mess, and it really kind of ruins the emotion for me at that point in the episode. But just the beginning. Because, like I said, the rest of the episode had me crying on the floor.

So yeah, a pretty mixed bag of a finale but overall… I think it’s fine. I think the emotional payoff is what they wanted to convey anyway.

Wow, can’t believe it’s over. Guess I better get started on that top ten episode list… frick.

I’m gonna miss these crazy kids.
