SO DEAR PEOPLE,
-GG REBOOT SPOILERS AHEAD -
I just saw the finale. And as I initially only watched season 2 for the polyamory relantionship between Aki, Max and Audrey, I will very understandibly post and discuss first about them:
I will adress the scene, oh you know what scene (Thomas is a very underrated actor, that isn’t for debate), and it was heartbreaking to watch through.
" What an absolute...fool", you can feel his pain.
Max realized that Audrey & Aki had no intention of breaking up between them even tho they all agreed that is "all for all or none for none".
And the fact that they (Aki & Audrey) broke the very pact that convinced Max to start a relantionship with them (his first of a kind too), hurt him more than the break-up per se. That must have been very hard on Max, with also him realizing that they don’t love him in the same way he loves them.
I am not saying those two aren’t in love with Max. What I am saying is that :
They didn’t fall hard, at least not like Max did for them.
They don’t seem to know that they have fallen in the first place.
It was dissapointing to see them ultimately break up. I don't intend do deny it. But I do understand the directors's take on this for a various number of reasons:
They are teenagers. They make mistakes, they try hard to learn from them but they also follow their instinct a lot. The instinct to just take it. To just do it. This is the part of their life when they are exploring, finding themselves, starting to risk things. And so on. This whole new unexplored area is scary. And insecurities are always gonna swim their way through.Breaking up, drama, a very large amount of overflowing emotions, failed relantionships (platonic or romantic ones)- these are very common between the ages of 16-20, more so in the GG universe, where we have a little taste of arrogant, entitled, used to get their way or/and selfish teenagers. They are gonna make bad decisions(fully aware). And this js the process of them reaching maturity. All the bad in the means of good ( a saying from my country, it means that we have to pass very bad times to reach the fullfiling ones at the end)
Polyamory was a new thing for all of them. How do u compromise so everyone it’s happy and comfortable? As we could see from this season, it was tricky and a bit difficult. Again, they are teenagers. They don’t know how this works, they are scared and they are trying.
They ALL needed time apart from their other 2 partners. (Something that didn’t happen (A+A) entirely...) To grow and see where they standed outside of their relantionship. You know, having different plotlines for each of them, like the original GG. I think the 3 of them coming together after all of that would have made a much bigger impact than them staying together now.
They were gonna be ENDGAME. As I said before, them coming back together in the end of season 3 after some time apart would have made a big impact, and a much awaited moment. It appears they were actually gonna do that, as I recently found out:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They did add that scene where Audrey stares at a painting simply because it reminds her of Max.
But they didn’t add the dialogue between her and Aaron, nor the context of her staring. Because they knew when they were editing the episodes that they wouldn’t get renewed for another season. They cut a lot of scenes filmed in Italy beacuse of that. The episode was meant to be longer.
They didn’t know that fact when they filmed tho, another proof that originally, those 3 were meant to end up together sooner or later.
In another words, I was right when I said that Audrey looking at the painting was foreshadowing their (Aki's and Audrey's) longing for Max in the future.(in a hypotetical third season)
I am kind of mad (just a little) that they knew this was a farewell, and they still ended, with such a negative note too, the poly relantionship. (A type of relantionship that is almost always portrayed as unreal and non-functional, which, unfair)
But again, I see where they were coming from with this. Safran said himself that it wasn’t their intentions to portray polyamory in a bad way, and that they believe it's real and does work for some people. (See the images attached).
And it would have been splendid if a third season would have been released in the future, so we could see them play this out, (as characters with unique storylines too), how it's gonna be Aki's and Audrey's turn to fall as hard as Max fell for them.
Just when it started feeling like a true familiar show....it gets canceled. Altho I am not a fan of their "keeping Luna and Monet out of the group in meaningful moments".
But maybe they would have changed that.
Oh well.
You can not have everything.
Can you?

let’s speculate about next week series (i still can’t believe it) finale, shall we?
so i’ve just read josh’s interview where he mentioned that he was not able to finish on of the core relationships in a way that he intended to, because the conflict should have been resolved in season three. he also mentioned that finale kind of implies that polyamory does not work (his words, not mine), but that is not what they really think. so based on that, i firstly think that we will have a triad heartbreak scene where, as I personally think, all three of them are going to break up.
Tumblr media
however, his next words «polyamory doesn’t work» sound suspicious to me. like all people that don’t understand polyamory are saying that it can’t work because you cannot love more than one person at a time. so what if we have this storyline – someone from triad realizes that they are not in love with other two people. i don’t see it happening in current state, because all three of them basically admitted being in love, but knowing gg inconsistent writing and love for drama it could happen. what do you think?
still, i hope that if we are left with a bad ending for triad, it would be all of them breaking up, not only max being alone while aki and audrey are still together. i need them to follow «none for none» rule, because i totally agree with max – they never followed «all for all» rule in the first place

I wasn’t aware that they were “leaks” saying that makaudrey (or whatever the fuck their ship name is) we’re being set up lmaoo. I mean if you just ship them fine. The throuple was the only reason I kept watching the show in season 1. I really couldn’t see only Max and Audrey together. It seems like they are going with the throuple (as they should) and they’re going to make up in the last episode (fucking hopefully)

So. Gossip Girl ended. And now I want to talk about my ship! Makidrey! I would have done so anyways but I needed to even more since I promised I would a while back lol.
So, they broke up in the finale, Aki and Audrey stayed together despite their all for all or none for none promise, just like I predicted a while ago. Of course I'm not happy about it, but I'm glad that the showrunner already confirmed that Makidrey was the intended endgame at least. Like I know some people don't really consider Word of God, but I do, even if it's not the same as the thing actually being done and shown.
First of all, fuck Maudreys for making up fake leaks to mess with triad shippers. If it wasn't for y'all I would have worried less in the past few weeks, even though episode 8 (and 6/7 too kinda) actually made that seem plausible. Or idk, maybe you were the ones to fall for fake leaks and actually thought that would happen, which deserved.
It's actually hilarious how, after that, which made Maudreys and even others think they were going that route, in the next episode they went back to business as usual, with Max being the one feeling left out, which is in line with how the story was always framed. That helped me with predicting the finale would be more about whether the triad stays together or not, than Maudrey turning into a couple. Aki and Audrey are really joined at the hip.
Now, what I had wanted to talk about before this, which is: Episode 8, despite pointing out to Max and Audrey and Aki wanting out (because yes it would have been him wanting to break up, not Maudrey dumping him like their delusions lol), it actually showed why they wouldn't be so good as a couple. They're too messy, and Max can end up enabling Audrey's worst side.
I mean, I know some people don't care, and/or think Audrey was completely right about Julien, but clearly that was not what they were trying to say. They were obviously framing her whole plan to fuck over Julien at the store as the wrong thing to do, and Max helping her and saying "everything you did was out of love", while Aki had earlier in the episode told her to choose forgiveness and hoped she made things right with JC, shows how Aki is more in touch with what's actually healthier for her.
And that's why, not only Audrey, but both of them need him. Remember when Max had that whole thing with Rafa, and Aki was the one to look out for him and try to stop it? Max and Audrey are both chaotic, but thankfully Aki is there to be their voice of reason.
To be completely honest, had the shown gotten renewed, I think Maudrey getting together for angst and then realizing they need Aki would have actually been a better choice writing-wise! (though the hiatus would've been hell for me).
When they said they were cutting things I even wondered if Maudrey would be getting cut if the leaks were real. Akidrey having to realize they need Max is literally what season 1 was all about already! But well, since it got cancelled and this ended up being the series finale, I'm really glad they didn't. I'd rather Akidrey be the consequential "endgame" than Maudrey at least.
Honestly, I never thought people were really so against shipping poly ships before this. Makidrey was by all means the main ship of the show. Julien was THE main character but Jobie didn't get as much development as them, and their characters weren't as focused on the ship. I know their writing wasn't always the best, but it was ALWAYS, like from the trailer, obvious that they were meant to be, as a triad.
And they are, and they will be. Good for Akidreys I guess that they can consider them endgame, but it's so obvious from the episode, from the whole show, that the triad was the end goal. Idk why the sex was suddenly good again, but even that had happened randomly in 1B too, before they realized they needed Max. And even in Rome they still mention him, and are sad that they hurt him and that Max doesn't want to talk to them.
At the end of the day I'm still glad for this show, and for them. Goodbye GG. Makidrey forever. (not akimaudrey)

So I have heard some rumours. Acording to them, the triad will break up, and the next season will focus more on Maudrey. While Aki will get a new male love-interest. It appears someone here is doing fan-service (?) and it's giving some of you what you asked since season 1 came out. And that will be Max and Audrey as a solo pairing. What I don't get is...well...last I checked, there were more triad fans than both Akimax or Maudrey. Or at least around me. So what fan-service is this? I am confused. And a little dissapointed because they said that this isn't going to be like in Elite. We don't really see true healthy poly representation often.
Hello?
Aki has both Max and Audrey ?
I get he wants to explore but...it will be behind their backs right ?
Not very cool of him.
Um, most of us want them as a triad?
Because they work better that way ?
That was the entire point of season 1 ?!!
To change course so abruptly...
WHY RUIN COMPLETELY SUCH A GOOD TRIO?
I DON'T GET IT.
For some Chair 0.2 copy? Srsly?
And I haven't forgot how some of you Maudrey stans got very nasty on the Twitter platform. I understand that each one of us has a preference, but it has to be comunicated in a respectful way. Josh Safran really tried to defend the poly ship AND the writing regarding these 3 characters. The team has done something different with those 3 in S1, and I really appreciate their effort.
Indeed, this leak could also be just a rumour. But looking closer at that trailer... (BTW. THE SEASON 2 TRAILER CAME OUT) I can see it.
Brace yourselves for the worst children.
I will be gathering any crumbs left from them as a trio in the second season, that's for sure.
( It's not like I hate Maudrey, I like it the same way I like akimax...unlike some of the chair 0.2 fans... but I still prefer the triad)

now with the cancellation and the rumors about HBO cutting the episode short because a lot of plots were going to take place on season 3 so they had to remove it, including Aaron Dominguez's participation (rumored to be Aki’s new love interest) then the triad will probably be okay OR Aki breaks up with them to end just with Audrey and Max alone. The show clearly has not time to re-record now so whatever they filmed for the season 2 finale will have to work as a series finale with some alternations.
yeah, i don't think that this is going to happen first of all, aaron dominguez is supposed to be introduced as zoya's potential love interest. i don't know where those leaks about him being aki's love interest came from, but joshua confirmed that aaron had nice scenes with whitney in particular, so he basically confirmed that. secondly, i don't think that if joshua was able to edit show, he would've left us with aki being excluded from the narrative and max and audrey having a meaningful moment. for me, right now, the most expected scenario is the whole triad break up. not aki and audrey being together and leaving max, not max and audrey getting together and leaving aki. it is not what could happen being on the place that we are story-wise after the last episode. still, as finale is almost one hour and twenty minutes, i don't want to exclude every possibility. however, let's not forget that joshua also mentioned that triad was planned to be endgame. if they had more seasons, they would make them even more endgame-ish and that the only thing that matters for me. i prefer to focus on that honestly
