Tamagotchi Meets Application Is Shutdown
Tumblr media
Well, it’s official. The Tamagotchi Meets application, originally launched back in November 2018 has been shutdown. There must be something about February, because Bandai loves to shut things down this month. We were given a heads up, and now it’s here. Tamagotchi Meets owners will no longer find the Tamagotchi Meets application in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
Tumblr media
The application itself will no longer function even if you already have it downloaded. We’ll miss the monthly guests, the special events, and seasonal decorations. We’ll miss the Tama Party and interacting with users all over the world. What’s the good news? The Tamagotchi On application isn’t going anywhere according to Bandai America, and the Tamagotchi Meets does connect with the Tamagotchi On application. Although it is a sad sad, it could be much worse if both applications were being retired.
Tumblr media
We must say we had high hopes for this application after its announcement back in November, we were almost certain that Bandai would build upon it. We wanted to see several features added, and we still do. The Tamagotchi Pix does not feature Bluetooth connectivity and does not interface with the Tamagotchi On application, but we might see another application surface in the future, we can only hope at this point. We will miss you, Tamagotchi Meets application, xoxo.

Tamagotchi Meets App Shutdown Scheduled For February 28, 2022
Tumblr media
WHAT?! Bandai Japan has just dropped some serious news and we are NOT OKAY. The Tamagotchi Meets application, which is the companion application to the Tamagotchi Meets originally released back in 2018 is scheduled to be terminated on February 28th, 2022. The application was a huge feature of the Tamagotchi Meets, and the article Bandai Japan has published informing users of the shutdown indicates that it is mentioned on the product packaging, instruction manual and more, and this will no longer be accurate.
Have no fear, you can still play with your Tamagotchi Meets without the Tamagotchi Meets app. Bandai Japan apologizes and thanks us all for our understanding. They also end with thanking us for using the product for a long time, and lastly thanking us for our patronage of the Tamagotchi brand. We are still NOT OKAY with this news, what will we do without the Tama Party where we can find our next partner? Now there is no word from Bandai America about the Tamagotchi On app, but we are going to have to hold onto hope. February 28th, 2022 will be a dark day in our book. Does Bandai love shutting down series in February? Let’s not forget TamaTown was shut down on February 6th, 2013.

With Tamagotchi Meets App Shutdown, Tamagotchi Meets Owners Flock to Tamagotchi On App
Tumblr media
We knew this would happen! Tamagotchi Meets fans have been very vocal about their feelings around the Tamagotchi Meets application shutdown that occurred on February 23rd, 2022. The application is a key feature of the Meets, and made marriage a lot easier than on the device. Knowing that the Tamagotchi On application has similar fate six months later, Meets owners have flocked to the Tamagotchi On application.
How is this possible? Although the Tamagotchi On application is only available in both Canada and the United States, you can manipulate your country select in the app store to one of these countries and download the application. The application doesn’t require a log in so that makes it even easier. Of course the Tamagotchi On application is in English, but verbiage is quite limited, so Japanese users have been able to manage.
Tumblr media
Yes, the Tamagotchi Meets does connect with the Tamagotchi On, and you can connect your Meets to the On app, and vice versa. This is something we found out years ago. Since the devices are merely identical, and the only difference being their language, the Tamagotchi Meets application has no problem connecting to the Tamagotchi On application.
The clock is ticking. Both Tamagotchi Meets and Tamagotchi On owners know that we only have until August 31st, 2022 to enjoy the application. Once September 1st, 2022 hits the application will be shutdown and there isn’t another application publicly available that will connect to the Meets nor the On. That will be a sad day.

Bandai Japan Decorates Tamagotchi Meets App for Valentine’s Day One Last Time
Tumblr media
Not to dampen the mood, but the Tamagotchi Meets app is merely weeks away from being shutdown. Bandai Japan has just decorated the Tamagotchi Meets app one last time for Valentine’s Day, the last holiday it will be decorated for before the shutdown on February 23rd, 2022. As a reminder, the Tamagotchi On app will still be here, and Bandai America has no plans on shutting it down since the Tamagotchi On is still being sold. What’s odd is that the Tamagotchi On app has not been decorated for Valentine’s Day, but still receives monthly guests and is actively maintained.

Tamagotchi Meets & On App Monthly Visitor For July Is Herotchi, Again
Tumblr media
It looks like we have our first repeat monthly visitor for the Tamagotchi Meets & On app, Herotchi. Herotchi will be the monthly visitor this July, begging on Wednesday, July 1st at 2:00AM PST through Saturday August 1st at 2:00AM PST. Now this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if you remember correctly the Tamagotchi On launched last year on July 28th, 2019. That means unless you had your hands on the device for the remaining three days of the month of July then you probably didn’t get a chance to meet, and potentially even marry Herotchi. Remember, the Tamagotchi On app didn’t launch until mid-day on July 28th, 2019. Now is your time to inherit those genes!

Using Tamagotchi On App For Marriage? BE CAREFUL! (UPDATED)
Tumblr media
Hopefully your parents taught you to never talk to strangers, but on the Tamagotchi On app we don’t; we marry them. All kidding aside, there’s an epidemic that has been plaguing the Tamagotchi Meets/On app for a while. An unsupported fan created application “MyMeets” allowing users to modify their Tamagotchi’s genetics and download them over to their device via bluetooth has been causing several heads and glitches, and really effecting the Tamagotchi experience for many users. This is not the only culprit behind the issue, there have been reports of defective genes such as faceless Tamagotchi’s since the launch of the Tamagotchi Meets. There appears to be a software glitch on device as well.
The problem here as you can see in the image above is that a fan accepted a proposal on the Tamagotchi On app, not knowing that the user previously used the MyMeets application or possibly has experienced a glitch on the device. This allegedly caused corrupt data to be transmitted, and for their character to have defective genes. As you can see in the image the Tamagotchi parent character is clearly missing their eyes! Also you can see the mother in the image is a baby, this is allegedly a known issue with the MyMeets app. This is not something that is super easy to identify when you’re using the application. The user has not yet complained about any other glitches, but if there were any additional glitches experienced. Some users recommend a reset, but others encourage against it as this will not ultimately resolve issues in the devices programming.
Tumblr media
Another Tamagotchi fan recently found a Tamagotchi character on the On app without eyes too! These characters are out there and we all need to be really careful about marrying them! One fan weights in on a method to identify if the user you’re about to marry has used the unsupported MyMeets application or a user with defective genes from an on device glitch. Take a look at their family tree, make sure there are no missing characters, or empty spaces in their family tree!
Be safe out there, and remember, the MyMeets application is not supported by Bandai and there is a crackdown on users who are still using this application and bringing over corrupted data! This is a problem that can have a very big negative effect.
UPDATE: We have had several members of the Tamagotchi community inform us that the defective genes such as faceless Tamagotchi’s have been an issue prior to the launch of the MyMeets application. Adult Tamagotchi’s appearing as babies is a known MyMeets issue. We are not ruling out that the MyMeets has not caused issues in the past. Members of the community are encouraging MyMeets app users to avoid marriage in the application to avoid further complications.

What Tamagotchi Meets & On Apps Need
Tumblr media
The Tamagotchi Meets came accompanied by the very first Tamagotchi companion application, giving users the ability to take their Tamagotchi outside of the device to unlock more fun. We’ve seen this concept of gameplay way back when the Tamagotchi Connection V3 was released back in 2006, and a few months earlier in the Japanese Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus. Both versions introduce internet functions to their respect markets, TamaTown and E-Tamago.
TamaTown & E-Tamago allowed fans to enter in a code provided on their Tamagotchi that would bring their character into the game and have a lot of fun. There were shops, restaurants, trips, and so much more to explore. Since the shutdown back in 2013 Bandai has been trying enhance the gameplay on their newest devices in a more modern way. We say the Dream Town game for the Tamagotchi Friends device, which definitely had a lukewarm response from the Tamagotchi community due to its predictability and limited gameplay.
The Tamagotchi Meets and On allowed Bandai to get back into the internet function gameplay with a new application, the self titled Tamagotchi Meets & Tamagotchi On app. These apps don’t rely on constantly entering in passwords to transfer your character or items you earn, it’s all done via bluetooth, and this saves us a bunch of time! Although we love the Tamagotchi Meets & On apps there is definitely some more work that needs to be done to match the TamaTown experience.
So what do the Tamagotchi Meets & On apps need?:
Tumblr media
Shops - Don’t you just missing visiting the mall in TamaTown? Forever Tamagotchi, Lucky Tama Toys, and The Tama Beat were cute little shops that allowed you not only to visit, but purchase some awesome items. You were able to pick up some clothes to dress your Tamagotchi in, toys to play with, and even new instruments. We really miss the ability to purchase items and bring them over to our device, at this time you can only earn items in the Tamagotchi Meets & On apps by playing mini games.
Tumblr media
Locations - There aren’t many locations to explore within the park! You have the Tama Party, and the Arcade, the restaurant game is not technically in the park. With just two locations the app can definitely get boring real fast. There have been additional locations during events, such as the Sanrio event that was being held to celebrate the launch of the Tamagotchi Meets Sanrio version. There is one spot in the park that appears to have a building under construction, we would love to see more locations open up to explore!
Tumblr media
Interaction - We miss the ability to interact with other users as we did within Music City. Sure you can choose from a bunch of emojis, but Music City (and later versions) allowed us to use predefined phrases which really helped communication. By no means do we think there should be open text, but having predefined commonly used phrases will definitely help increase communication  and result in more fun!
Tumblr media
Entertainment - TamaTown had the Tama Tower which allowed users to watch short animations in this movie theater, there were roughly four to choose from. The short movies were super cute and really provided a different experience from shopping and eating.
Tumblr media
Souvenirs - Visiting a new location allowed you to earn souvenirs within he Tamagotchi so you could remember your trip. Wouldn’t it be cute to visit new locations in the Tamagotchi Meets & On app and have a souvenir to log in your Tama Diary? Every souvenir has its own story and helps you remember everywhere you’ve been with your Tamagotchi.
That’s our list of what we want to see in the Tamagotchi Meets & On app. These features would truly make the application feel like a real TamaTown replacement. We do applaud Bandai as the current application is a huge step in the right direction, and we are positive that the future is bright! What would you like to see in the application and why?

Tamagotchi Meets App Decorated for Sweets Version Launch
Tumblr media
image courtesy of marybeads on Twitter
Bandai Japan has decorated the Tamagotchi Meets app several times over the last 12 months, including the popular Sanrio extravaganza to celebrate the release of the Tamagotchi Meets Sanrio Version. The launch of the Sweets Meets is no exception! If you’ve visited the Tamagotchi Meets app recently than you’ve probably already seen the giant egg chocolate fountain! The fountain has eyes and a mouth that pours out sweet pink chocolate into a tub decorated with tweets which appear to be delicious and sweet meringues also in pink!
You can also see the background of the application, typically a blue sky is now featuring different color stripes and even pink chocolate dripping down, it's super cute! Be sure to visit the Tamagotchi Meets app soon, these decorations don’t last forever and we should be seeing the holiday decorations up shortly and Santaclautchi making his appearance!

Tamagotchi Meets App: Server Maintenance
Tumblr media
The Tamagotchi Meets app needs some maintenance to be performed, so Bandai Japan has alerted fans via their Twitter account that they should expect for the app to be down between 13:00-15:00 on Wednesday, November 6th. The server maintenance that is being performed is not expecting to add any addition functionality bu rather be routine maintenance. Bandai Japan asks fans to refrain from launching the application during this time and to wait for the maintenance period to be completed.

Tamagotchi Meets & On App Synchronization
Tumblr media
The Tamagotchi Meets app has been available in the Japanese app store and play store since November of 2018, it was released alongside the Tamagotchi Meets. The Tamagotchi On app was released a few months later in July of 2019. The two applications are very similar, almost identical, but there are some differences.
The Tamagotchi Meets application is already on version 1.10.0, and the Tamagotchi On app is on version 1.0.2. As you can see there’s definitely a decent version gap between the two of them. Since the Tamagotchi Meets app was released first it has definitely seen its fair share of updates, most of them focusing on stability and reducing the number of bugs and glitches users have experienced. This is definitely apparent from the number of negative reviews the app has received in the past.
The Tamagotchi On app has the advantage of being released as a version one application and already have those bugs and glitches patched right out of the door. This has been reflected in the app reviews in comparison to the Tamagotchi Meets app. However there are some features that the Tamagotchi Meets app has that the On app does not. For example, a new feature released in July allows users to tap on another Tamagotchi character to give them hearts, and interact with one another.
So we reached out to Bandai America to see what the plan is for the Tamagotchi On app and if it will ever catch up to the Tamagotchi Meets app. Here’s the response we received:
“The apps won’t be the same at launch. We’ll obviously see what the Japan team is doing and localize it.”
What about those cool events, like the Sanrio one that we just saw to celebrate the Tamagotchi Meets Sanrio version?
Tumblr media
“The Japan team has a Sanrio event as they just launched a Sanrio Meets version. We’re focusing on the core Tamagotchi On product at this time”.
So from those two statements we can see that Bandai America is looking to the Japan team’s updates and seeing what they can localize. In terms of events it seems to be the same approach, since they are focusing on the core Tamagotchi On product we wouldn’t expect to see the Sanrio event hit the Tamagotchi On app until a Tamagotchi On Sanrio version gets released, if ever.

Bandai Japan Asks Tamagotchi Meets App Users To Participate in Questionnaire
Tumblr media
Just recently tweeted out by the official Tamagotchi Twitter account for Japan, Bandai Japan is encouraging Tamagotchi Meets app users to participate in a questionnaire. This questionnaire will help them with future product development, and Bandai notes that they will not accept an ideas, or suggestions from its customers. Any content you provide in the questionnaire belongs to Bandai Japan. The results are measured for statistical purposes, and it does not identify individual scores, the maximum amount of points you can earn is six.
You are able to take the questionnaire with or without an account, but you must enter in the product code provided in the tweet which is “881123”. It appears that Bandai Japan is running several questionnaires throughout their brands so this unique code identifies the Tamagotchi Meets app survey.
The questionnaire consists of 44 questions which range from multiple choice, and open ended questions toward the end. Questions include your age, devices you own, and your interaction with the Tamagotchi Meets app. The questions range from your Tamagotchi Meets, to Stations, Tama Photo Spots, and even the LINE app. It looks like Bandai Japan is doing some research on how active you are with the brand, and what your preferences are.
If you are a Tamagotchi Meets user in Japan we definitely suggest that you take the questionnaire soon because this will help Bandai Japan with future product development!

The geolocation play feature will know where you are and you will get your hands on an exclusive item! The item is an accessory, and its the Ito Yokado bag which is super cute! Be sure to view the official list of participating stores before heading out to your store.
