the evolution of the operator symbol over the course of the series is so endlessly fascinating to me, because like. Alex came up with the symbol and only ever really used it on his hypergraphia papers, which we don't really see him do much (if at all) after season one

but Brian,, Brian uses that symbol constantly. It's basically a signature by the end of the series - he leaves it on Tim's medical records, and on the back of Alex's photo of Amy, and on the note he left for Jay about Benedict Hall - he even uses it in his final video to unveil his name - it's self-referential, but he doesn't ever really seem to use it to denote The Operator the way Alex did?

Like, to me it really does seem like he basically appropriated it. "This is the symbol you created for the thing that was hunting you, but now I'm the thing that's hunting you" - like, hh fuck dude, Looking At You

With how much the Operator can erase in terms of memory to the point where Jay not only forgets the entirety of Season 2 as well as who Jessica is and what really happened in the Summer of 2006/Pre-MH, it would be really easy to make an AU where everyone straight up forgets each other after the initial incident in 2006.

Imagine an AU in which Jay finds some weird tapes in the back of his closet and watches them, only to see himself talking with a bunch of other people he doesn’t remember and wondering what the hell is going on. He seeks them out, only to find they have no idea either, and how some of them are missing altogether.

Who is this guy in glasses he sees recording himself obsessively like he’s afraid of what happens if he doesn’t, and is he even still alive? Should Jay watch out for whatever made him disappear?

Maybe TTA videos are even more scattered, because they have bits and pieces of information but in truth, are just as lost as Jay is and that terrifies them.
