Qué es el job hopping y cómo está cambiando el mercado laboral

El job hopping es una de esas nuevas tendencias que surgen al calor del nuevo paradigma laboral y la eclosión del segmento millennial como fuerza de trabajo mayoritaria. Te explicamos qué es y en qué consiste.

La era de Internet, de la economía digital y de la innovación ha traído consigo un nuevo vocabulario, que a menudo se torna como un argot ininteligible para los mayores pero que sin duda, es fundamental para comprender los nuevos fenómenos, invenciones y apariciones de nuestra era. Hoy nos toca hablar del job hopping, un término que alude al cambio frecuente de trabajo y el rechazo de la estabilidad laboral y financiera, sacrificada por cumplir nuevas aspiraciones, emprender o cambiar de compañía.

Los job hoppers, también conocidos como job jumpers, no hacen más que apuntalar una tendencia que ya hundía sus raíces en la Generación X con respecto a los Baby Boomers, los cuales cambiaban de trabajo más a menudo que sus padres. Ahora, tanto la Generación Z como la Y -es decir, aquellos nacidos entre 1980 y comienzos de este siglo XXI- saltará de empleo en empleo en busca de la autorrealización. De hecho, una encuesta elaborada por el diario The Guardian afirma que el 90% de esta generación no peramencerían más de cinco años en el mismo puesto.

En esta nueva cultura abundan los perfiles con múltiples experiencias laborales en su CV, formación más variada y diversa, mayor asunción de riesgos laborales y alto grado de adaptabilidad, así como una mayor red de contactos. No tienen miedo a desplazarse de país para trabajar, no tienen tanto interés en comprar una vivienda y abogan por una mayor flexibilidad horaria, movilidad como e-nomads y libertad para desarrollar su creatividad y participar en la toma de decisiones.

Si en épocas anteriores los reclutadores podían categorizar un perfil de este tipo como inmaduro, sin responsabilidad o capacidad de compromiso, en la actualidad ya no es así: aportan valor, frescura, ideas creativas y experiencias diversas, así como un alto conocimiento digital. Por ello es importante saber captar su talento y potenciar sus virtudes en el mercado actual.

Jóvenes con movilidad, expectativas y ganas de emprender

Desde IMF Business School aportan los tres factores que han propiciado la revolución de este nuevo paradigma laboral: la primera es la edad, ya que los jóvenes suelen ser más intrépidos y tener menos carga de responsabilidades para cambiar de empleo o de lugar de residencia. A este factor le sigue el sueldo, ya que el crecimiento económico sigue siendo el principal factor para cambiar de empresa, según revela uno de los últimos estudios de Randstad.

Las ganas de emprender también son un tercer motivo de peso: los denominados ‘millennipreneurs’ han puesto en marcha el doble de compañías que los profesionales con más de 50 años, generando un 43% más de volumen de negocio, según el estudio BNP Paribas Global Entrepreneur Report 2016, en el que han formado parte 2.600 empresarios de 18 países de Asia, Europa y Estados Unidos.

Sea como fuere, la tendencia no para de crecer y brinda CV ricos en experiencia, alta capacidad de superación, enriquecimiento de las compañías y aspiraciones más elevadas por parte de los profesionales y candidatos más jóvenes. ¿Tú te consideras un job hopper?
