Persona 4 Verse Nobu
(Deets below the cut)
Nobu joins Yasogami High as a 3rd year. Nobu does have his medical license, but it is temporarily suspended as the Inaba Municipal Hospital directors do not feel comfortable with having a doctor from outside attending, especially one as young as Nobu. They will reinstate his license pending graduation from Yasogami. Nobu convinces them to pay for all that he needs until that point as reneging on the agreement is a breach of contract for a reason unassociated with his performance.
Persona: Same as for Concern or Consideration, which will eventually be revealed. Evolution is the same as well. Still need to figure out 3rd Evolution for Golden Verse.
Arcana: Charity as with Concern or Consideration.
Palace: Coliseum
Shadow: Champion Gladiator who enjoys fighting and killing his opponents.
Basis for Palace: The charity arcana is associated with selflessness, while the reverse is associated with selfishness. Gladiators are normally associated with using simple brute strength, which lends itself for Shadow Nobu's prejudice about all those that are in it. Being the champion would generate the elitism. There's also the compound effect that for Nobu, who is a doctor and thus has a purpose of keeping people alive to have a Shadow that emphasis a propensity for killing others. Nobu's shadow enjoys killing as a result of Nobu's rage from having his kindness exploited constantly.
Battle Outcome: Scripted Loss for the Investigation Squad.
Defeated by: Nobu recovering enough to speak and quelling his shadow.
TV Appearance: August 22nd. (Unfortunately before the beach trip.)
First rain day for Midnight Channel: August 23rd with silhouette.
Second rain day for Midnight Channel: August 25th with full image.
Deadline to save: September 7th. (Actually September 8th, but due to trip to Tatsumi Port Island on the 8th, cuts the availability down by a day.)
Recovers: September 9th (but doesn't meet with the Investigation Squad until the 12th.)
Meeting Spot: Investigation Squad Headquarters. :P (Nobu is still somewhat recovering and doesn't return to school, but has a feeling that he will meet with them at the spot.)
Glasses: Initially the Gag Glasses (Nobu is the only member who wears glasses regularly.), then becomes a set of personally modified blue glasses that have his standard frames behind the special tv frames.
Optional Boss: Wayward Golem
Affect on storyline:
Music Show: Nobu assists as a backup singer to Rise, but he has also memorized everyone's parts, except Rise's. However, Teddie takes his instrument with him when he crowdsurfs. Nobu doesn't join the guys in trying to dive off stage and tries to warn them about diving off at the same time, but it arrives too late.
Pageant: Nobu offers his support to Chie in the pageant, inadvertantly informing her that she was signed up by someone else. Informs Chie that Yukiko, Rise, and Naoto have also been signed up, blowing Yosuke's cover. Madoka would also have been signed up in Fem P4 Protag verse.
Cross-Dress pageant: Nobu assists in the girls helping the guys get dolled up. Chie, Rise, Yukiko, and Naoto got together and decided that since Nobu told them about it, that they wouldn't sign him up. Nobu takes this as an opportunity to try and learn more things to be a better big brother.
Hot Spring Round 1: Nobu notices the girls' clothes and tries to convince the guys that it's not safe to go in there, but is ignored. Nobu hides off to the side. After the guys are chased off, Nobu makes himself known to the girls on the otherside of the wall. Nanako convinces him to let them have more time in the springs. (Nanako is his biggest weakness.)
Nanako's Hospitalization: Nobu is brought up to treat Nanako, but initially refuses due to his license being suspended by the hospital and risk of retaliation on grounds of preferential treatment. After the hospital signs a full release of liability form guarding him from prosecution. When Nanako dies temporarily, Nobu stays with her while the others leave. Teddie tells Nobu that he is going to meet up with the others. Nobu thinks of this as him saying the rest of the squad, rather than shadows. So when the squad returns, Nobu is surprised to see Teddie isn't with them.
Ski Trip: Nobu is unused to snowboarding, but he is a fast learner, much to Naoto's chagrin. Nobu is largely with Chie and Yosuke.
Ghost Story: Nobu doesn't like ghost stories and when Teddie shuts off the lights, it causes Nobu to hug Naoto in a panic. He releases her once the lights are back on and sighs seeing it's just Teddie. Nobu informs Teddie that they know it's him.
Snowball Fight: Nobu runs over to the guys side, abandoning Yosuke.
Hot Spring Round 2: When Teddie steps on Kanji's head, Nobu has a bad feeling and starts to go away from the guys side and out of the water, wearing a towel shortly before the partitioning wall falls over.
Time Skip: Nobu has taken up singing as another way of helping people. He still keeps up with his medical license, but uses singing as a way to help those who are hurt emotionally but not physically. Nobu also gives Nanako a ride to meet up with the protag, prompting Chie to tease the protag that Nobu is trying to take his spot as Nanako's big bro.
Combination Move: Love and War with Rise.
Effect: Charge, Concentrate, Tetrakarn, and Marakarn on entire team.

Project Zulu
A while ago, an idea popped in my head. I remember that Project Zulu did exist in the older parts of the lore and thought to give it some backstory. I am sorry for any contradictions.
  Project Zulu
Disappeared, status unknown.
Was built at the same time as Project Adam.
If I am not mistaken, both were a result of the company’s attempt at making drones as strong as Serial Designation X, and the company did achieve some success, right?
Just like Adam, Zulu was trained by Serial Designation X.
Was “arranged married” with Project Eve (or someone else). Although Project Sev was made as a result of this marriage, both Zulu and his wife were never really on good terms and eventually separated from each other. Zulu would raise and train his son all by himself while simultaneously pursuing his ideals of the “perfect killing machine”.
Is a determinator (according to tv tropes, someone who never gives up). Every failure he faced is seen as nothing but a mere setback to victory. An example of this is at the very beginning. He started out as a slightly weaker drone compared with Adam and has lost several sparring matches against him, Serial Designation X. In fact, Zulu barely won against Eve (or someone else), reinforcing Adam’s view that his brother is just an inferior version of him. Unfortunately for Adam, Zulu became more durable against his powerful strikes, adopted fighting techniques, causing Zulu to not just outmatched his brother in terms of skills, but to also put up a more decent fight against X.
Uses a fighting style that is basically a mixture of Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That way, he could force some of his opponents to submit without any lasting injuries, or knock out others and quickly end fights with deadly striking. It really depends on who he is fighting. In addition, Zulu’s electricity also gave him the ability to pack more punch for his strikes as well as to make his blades more devastating. What would concern his opponents about his strikes is the result and impact it produces, which is the impulsive force produced with the sheer electrical shock that temporarily, or permanently if he puts enough effort, disrupts the function of their nanites. Zulu actually tried to teach Hotel some of his techniques, only for Adam to tell him to bug off and forbade Hotel from ever using any of these techniques he learned. His melee weapons are sabres, long swords and claws, and his ranged weapon is a rocket launcher that he studied the blueprint of and managed to implement it in his weapon system.
Developed a rather pragmatic and at the same time, idealistic view. Understood that although worker drones are weak and can be very stupid cowards, they can be cunning, brave, smart and competent. As a result, he implemented different strategies and tactics based on the type of rogue drones he is facing. In his notebook, Zulu, he mentions the strengths and the weaknesses of some of his comrades, showing that he is a good observer. He admires Adam for his strength, loyalty to the company and coldness, however noted that he is arrogant, has an overdependence on his strength and acts too cruel against many drones around him, especially to his children, negatively affecting their performance. He wrote about the excellent leadership skills X possessed, as well as the lack of loyalty she may have for the company. As a result, Zulu proposed the concept “the perfect killing machine” which is that a disassembly, project or internecion drone must not just be skilled and strong, but also must be disciplined, reasonable, ruthless, intelligent and swear absolute loyalty to the company. Zulu hoped to achieve his goals to become what he views as perfection.
Due to the massive firepower that some rogue drone civilizations (worker drones were not the only separatists) may possess, Zulu, with the blueprint he obtained and the scraps he have, created and modified body armour for himself and his squad to decrease the risk of getting some really nasty wounds.
It is unknown what rank he is in, but it can be known that Zulu is powerful enough to demote executives and promote project drones to said rank based on what he sees fit. His presence is enough to keep the cockiest drones from messing around. Zulu understood that honesty is the best policy and forgives drones if they commit some mistakes and at most., give them a slap on the wrist depending on how bad it is, as well as severely punish those who try to cover them up. This was shown when he disciplined his son through beatings and severe training after catching him for covering a major fuckup. As a result, Project Sev made sure everything in detail and records about his missions were correct and accurate out of fear of being accused of covering or making anything up. Zulu also believes that he could get drones to achieve their absolute potential as well as to give up their weaknesses. The more drones working efficiently for a common goal, the better.
Acting under the orders of administrator X, Zulu and his squad defeated and exiled Eve and Adam, with Zulu himself personally bruising his brother’s body and ego. When R came to power and X was presumably killed (in reality, she was exiled), Zulu instantly came into conflict with the new ruler. This was not because he had loyalty for X, but rather because he considered the new government to be unfit for their roles. He understood that X was losing loyalty time by time, but still would rather have her as the leader simply because the alternatives were much worse. Thanks to R, and her allies Eve and Adam, those Zulu deemed to be unfit for such ranks were given executive status and other high ranks. Zulu couldn’t do anything about this. This angers and frustrates him, which could be shown through how increasingly brutal his tactics and attacks become against many unfortunate rogue drones. He even wondered whether he should leave the flock and create his own faction.
His downfall came when a disassembly drone squad had notified him that his son, Sev, and another squadmate, Project Tarik, defected to a powerful rogue drone holdout. Furious, Project Zulu hastily prepared himself and the remainder of his squad (Project Loken and Project Aximand) to destroy the rogue drones and force his subordinates to give up their resistance. At first, he attempted to convince them to join back, telling them that he will give them a second chance if they give up their rebellion. They, however, have yelled at him that once the drones have completed their mission, the company will leave them for dead, besides, they are probably expendable resources to the eyes of the fat billionaires that ruled JCJenson. Why spend more money to get their drones back? Zulu felt angered by such acts of treason but had managed to hold himself together. He shouted back, in the calmest voice he can muster, that he understood where they were coming from, admitted that the company probably left them for dead, but argued there is no point in rebelling since JCJenson will not be affected. The company will repeatedly send deadly, maybe even deadlier and emotionless then the internecion drones. Besides, they were here to complete one mission, to put an end to runaway AI on this godforsaken planet, and they will be the ones to do it so that others don’t have to suffer the burden of being a mass murderer. As time went by, the patience of both sides waned, and the argument grew into a fruitless quarrel. In the end, Sev proclaimed “If fighting for freedom is wrong, I don’t want to be right”. This leaves Zulu no choice except extreme violence against his son and his friend. A fierce and ferocious battle followed as the rogue worker drones and the rogue projects used their skills and abundant firepower cleverly to kill the loyalists. Zulu gave the disassembly squad the order to sneak through the ventilation system as him and the squad attacked the defenders head-on. It worked as the disassembly drones had successfully come behind enemy lines before the rebels knew it and their lines were beginning to break. Zulu ordered his squad to smash the enemy before they could counterattack. The short yet bloody battle ended with Zulu personally killing his son. Most of the defenders, including Sev and Tarik, were killed, with the remaining fleeing in many directions. The entire disassembly squad, though they had fought valiantly, were all dead. Though Zulu and his squad had survived, they suffered several wounds, both on their bodies and in their minds.
After that event, he and his squad were never the same as before. They could shoulder the guilt, the sorrow and the pressure of ruining countless lives, but the killing of their comrades, the ones who they’ve trained with, have learned lessons with each other, and the ones whom they had several  memories together were what broke them. Each and one of them became mentally scarred as a result. Zulu, once a cool headed person, had become more vulnerable to outbursts of rage. He had become more quiet and depressed. Moments before his sudden disappearance, Zulu wrote in his notebook that he had truly failed his goal of being the perfect drone and that after everything he had done, his emotions had finally taken over his mind.
Despite everything, Adam may still view his brother as a weakling who likes overthinking and overanalyzing, but damn he can’t deny the fact that Zulu is quite good at making badass armour.
----
Zulu’s lore has been mostly finalized, but I really like this idea. Could make for a good OC of your own :D

All I ever wanted was cake.
Over the past 20-plus years, CBS’ NCIS has blown through many a milestone — 100 episodes! 200 episodes! 300! 400! — and usually with party that served a Cake Shaped Like a Number.
Each and every time, the running joke went, I would nag the show’s publicity team about my never getting a slice, despite my ongoing coverage of TV’s most-watched franchise — all while of course knowing that my being based out of the East Coast, 3,000 miles away from NCIS’ Santa Clarita nerve center, was a stumbling block.
But when CBS and CBS Studios officially celebrated the start of filming of the franchise’s 1,000th episode, which airs this Monday at 9/8c, I am happy to report that I finally got my piece of a Cake Shaped Like a Number.
Plus a walk-on role, as icing on said cake….
Tumblr media
Photo : Robert Voets/CBS
I have no lines in the episode “A Thousand Yards.” And if you blink when Gary Cole and Spencer Moore II step off the elevator into the squad room, midway through the episode, you will miss me. But it is me, Mom, playing Federal Agent Intently Walking a Very Important Folder Across the Room.
While not as splashy a role as, say, Body of Proof gravedigger, playing Special Agent Key — the name that I and only I gave him (as in kilo/1,000) — required some prep and grooming. Shortly after arriving at set, I was whisked away to Vicky Stevens in wardrobe, who handed me a very federal agent-y grey suit, complete with well-worn wingtips that I can most charitably describe as “government-issue.” (I guess Uncle Sam frowns on Bruno Magli.)
Tumblr media
Upon fully “suiting up” back at wardrobe, I bumped into and chatted up Bones vet T.J. Hynes, who was guest-starring in the episode as a tech titan. (Scoop!) By keeping my eyes and ears open, I would also glean that Daniela Ruah and Vanessa Lachey would appear in this milestone episode, as NCIS: LA’s Kensi and NCIS: Hawai’i’s Jane. (More scoop!) I also spent a minute hanging out with Christopher Waild, who wrote the episode and teased some of the Easter eggs he’d scattered throughout. (More scoop!)
Tumblr media
Shh, don't tell McGee I sat at his desk.

Tumblr media
Easy enough, yes. But I assure you that the first thought that enters your head — especially if you learned anything from Smash‘s Karen — is: Gosh, I hope I don’t pull focus from Gary Cole! So at first I went with a thousand-yard stare, which given the episode’s title seemed fitting. But after the first take, I started doing some “character work” and asked myself: Why is Agent Key approaching this female agent as a stranger, when they’ve quite possibly been working together for years? So for the next couple of tales, I adjusted my gaze from being “detached” to one of familiarity. (I shared my “process” with Patricia Flores, the background actor who played the recipient of my folder, and she was, I want to say, amused.)
Plot twist! Just when I thought I had my performance nailed, Jeb came up to me with new direction from the milestone episode’s director, Diana Valentine: “Can you walk faster? Double-time it?”
I gotta say, this threw me a bit, especially since I hadn’t done any stretching — plus my government shoes were a bit slippery — but I channeled everything that Strasberg, Hagen, Meisner et al had taught me and amazingly didn’t end up accidentally shoulder-checking Gary Cole a single time.

Once the scene was filmed to Diana Valentine’s satisfaction, I changed back into my Matt Mitovich wardrobe while the squad room set was modified into serving as an event space, where dozens upon dozens would soon assemble for the official “1,000th episode” ceremony.
NCIS co-showrunners Steven D. Binder and David North were joined by their entire cast as well as visiting NCIS: LA alum Chris O’Donnell and — appearing via Zoom — onetime NCIS: New Orleans front man Scott Bakula (in New York for the Broadway musical The Connector), the NCIS: Hawai’i cast (congregated in their own HQ) and co-showrunner Jan Nash, and NCIS: Sydney leads Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance.
Tumblr media
Following several laudatory speeches and (many) permutations of group photos taken with The Cake Shaped Like a Number, the actors and NCIS showrunners chatted with me and a select few peers on a short press line.
Cole’s first words to me were kudos for my performance (ha!), after which I asked/begged the showrunners not to cut me from the episode. Brian Dietzen and I had a nice moment, having Zoomed/both gotten emotional just days earlier about the David McCallum tribute episode he’d penned; Diana Reasonover absolutely crushed the NCIS trivia quiz I was running by everyone (alas, that video ran into a snafu), whereas Wilmer Valderrama… didn’t; Sean Murray (now the longest-running cast member) gave some great teases; and you don’t need me to tell you it’s always great to see the effervescent Katrina Law in person.
Tumblr media
Once the press line wrapped, I sat with Rocky Carroll at lunch, then dove into my slice of NCIS cake that had been 1.5 decades in the making.
SPOILER ALERT! The Cake Shaped Like a Number? Turns out it is usually just a frosted foam prop used for the photo op, while the actual slices served to everyone come from a regular ol’ cake.
Even so, my experience as Agent Key was a sweet one, indeed.

Okay, TBB season three predictions and thoughts after that trailer:
Since they were willing to show multiple shots of Crosshair with Hunter and Wrecker, I bet the three-episode premiere is about his successful rescue. I'm so, so happy to see Crosshair and Hunter reunited!!!
I really hope they rescue the other clones in captivity with Crosshair, especially because it seems like Rex is helping, but I'm worried that looking at the trailer, it doesn't look like it?
Since Omega isn't shown with any of the others except Crosshair at Tantiss, maybe that means they can't rescue her and then have to spend the remainder of the season working out a way to?
If Crosshair returns to the Batch early, I want to see them hit raw emotional beats regarding the years they spent apart. Just think of his survivor's guilt when it comes to Tech! And him wearing his old kit and not like a modified version is a particularly interesting choice because it symbolizes that everything's back to the previous status quo.
I'm kind of ??? about Ventress because I like Dark Disciple, and I'm a big hater regarding these retcons they keep doing for TV shows that convolute the overall story. It's kind of hilarious that they had to tweet out a reassurance about the show "aligning" with the book, though. Maybe she's a clone??
Sadly I don't believe Tech is alive, because tbh I don't have enough faith in the writing to really believe they could pull it off. But I want very badly for him to be alive, have started three separate fix-its, and still am very ready to be convinced!
Going along with that, I do think they'll all die a la Rogue One by the end, especially with that new Hunter poster that's very "Victory and Death." I could get behind this if they're heroic enough deaths like with Rogue One and Kanan and (kind of) Ezra, but if they do die and it doesn't accomplish anything / move the plot forward, I will be so mad. I'm still so mad that Tech's death made the story backtrack, and it took Omega's abduction to move it forward again.
I'm really sad the show is ending, especially because I feel like there's still SO much potential and places they could go with the characters. I've been frustrated and confused from the start about the scope of the show and how it focuses solely on the squad, at the cost of the clone rebellion being a mere side plot, and how it even has one of the core characteristics of the protagonists be that they specifically don't want to do the heroic thing. This is probably because we're stuck in an anti-hero (and antihero) age of media (and obsessed with dads for some reason), and it's what the people want to see, but I will never stop being disappointed about it, sigh. But I got into Star Wars because of my love of action cartoons, and I guess it'll always color my perception.
On that note, I still feel like they should do a clone rebellion show, and no, I will never shut about it!!! Even just an anthology series would be so cool. I'll never understand why they specifically created this sickass concept of Rex refusing to stop fighting even against the impossible-to-beat system, and successfully recruiting others to his seemingly hopeless cause, which is so quintessentially Star Wars—and then just shuffled it to the side!
Anyway. I really hope they give the Batch a proper send-off. And I want very badly for this to not be the end of the clones' stories!

What are the Best Animation Tool to be Used by the Animators?
Animation is the process of creating the illusion of motion and shape change by rapidly displaying a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon and beta movement. To make these animations, the animators use a variety of graphic animation tools as well as to create their work.
Such tools help create high-quality images and animations that can be used for various purposes, including commercials, video games, movies, and television shows. So, if you want to know about the best animation tool, here is the list of some best animation software that animators can use.
Let's take a look at them.
Moho Pro
Moho Pro is a vector-based animation software that allows you to create your animations from scratch or edit existing ones. It has a wide range of features and tools that make it perfect for both beginners and professionals. One of the best things about Moho Pro is its user interface. It is very user-friendly, and the learning curve is relatively short.
Even if you've never used animation software before, you'll be able to create your first animation within minutes. With Moho Pro, you can create professional quality 2D animations for TV, film, games, and the web. Moho Pro is worth checking out if you're looking for powerful yet affordable animation software.
CelAction2D
CelAction2D is a 2D animation program for Windows that comes in four editions: Professional, Animator, Studio, and Educational. If you're working with a big team, animating television programs, producing feature films, or making animated shorts, the Studio version is a great option. This version is the first to get updates, assistance, and innovative features.
The Professional version can be the most appropriate for you if you operate alone or with a small squad. There is also the Animator version if you wouldn't want all of its rigging features, but you won't be ready to invent assets with this—you'll need to have the Studio edition for that.
Procreate
Procreate is an animation tool that is popular among animators. It is easy to use and has many features that make it ideal for creating animations. It also has a wide range of brushes and tools that you can use to create your own unique animations. You can draw out animatics, build looping GIFs, & make gorgeous animations using Procreate's Animation Help without ever touching your computer.
The most recent edition of Procreate also has some very fantastic 3D features. This program is the top choice if you want to create on the go and is loved by everyone from newbies to experts.
Autodesk Maya
If you're a skilled animator seeking a potent 3D animation tool, Maya is unquestionably one of the most outstanding programs available. You can accomplish everything using Maya, including animation, modeling, and visual effects. As if that weren't enough, Maya also has one of the market's top rendering and physics systems.
Additionally, Maya comes with a special function called XGen interactive grooming. You may utilize the tools in XGen interactive grooming, including modifiers, sculpting brushes, and sculpting layers, to produce various hair and fur patterns.
Cartoon Animator 4
Cartoon Animator 4 is considered one of the best tools for animators as it helps users create animations easily with its wide variety of features. Professional-caliber cartoons may be made with ease with Cartoon Animator. Cartoon Animator offers the capabilities to accomplish everything, from sophisticated IK motion editing to whole-body motion capture. For instance, you can easily convert a 2D visage into a 3D talking head through its sprite-based facial engine.
You can also make convincing multi-angled 2D figures using the handy rigging & bone tool. Although Cartoon Animator may not be the simplest program to use, it is a superb animation tool for many types of content creators, provided you have the patience and time to master it.
Adobe Character Animator
With the help of lip-syncing and motion capture technology, Adobe Character Animator provides you with all the resources you need to swiftly and effectively create your 2D characters. Thanks to its Illustrator file integration and seamless Photoshop, you may build your models using your preferred tools and bring them to life with Character Animator. You may even broadcast your characters live!
Character Animator is still a helpful program for pros and enthusiasts alike, but it's incredibly fantastic if you're a beginner to animation and want a handle on the fundamentals.
Clip Studio Paint
Clip Studio Paint is a powerhouse when it relates to an all-in-one sketching and animating solution. It allows you to mix screen animation using camera effects to produce spectacular full-length movies, even though it might not have had a robust rigging system. Additionally, you can quickly adjust the tempo of your animation or even reposition the animation cels thanks to its easy timeline interface.
The best part is that Clip Studio Paint works on almost all popular platforms. If you can navigate its slightly challenging user interface, Clip Studio Paint may greatly complement the digital toolbox of aspiring, enthusiastic, and experienced animators.
Adobe Animate
Adobe Animate has many more features to offer animators while being very easy to use. The user interface is simple and intuitive, especially if you've used other Adobe products. Additionally, it's simple to upload your cartoons to social networking platforms like Twitter & YouTube fast and easily. Although Adobe Animate lacks some of the capabilities a professional animator would require, it may be the right tool for someone wishing to build interactive animations & simulations easily.
Open Toonz
OpenToonz is an open-source technology used to make basic animations or polished productions. It is also an excellent option for the classroom because it's effective and simple. The software has been designed with the non-artist in mind, which makes it a great tool for anyone who wants to create animations.
The Bottom Line
There are various animation tools available in the market, each with its pros and cons. Animators must choose the right tool that suits their needs and preferences. Although, there is no single perfect animation tool that all animators can use. Above, we have listed some of the best options that animators commonly use. We hope you find this information helpful in choosing the right animation tool for your project.

PIXELS: Earth but the Video Game Aliens are Self-Aware
In the year 1982, a video game tournament is held. The reason? The victors will have their footage included in a series of tapes being sent to space. The winners and losers of this tournament is where our story begins!
Tumblr media
Gordon Freeman, who came second place in his final match (Donkey Kong), is now your average run-of-the-mill geek squad guy. He works to provide for his son, Joshua, who’s a fan of modern video games (”you pretend you’re the guy and you don’t wanna die!”)
Tumblr media
Gordon goes to Dr. Darnold Pepper’s house to install a new TV. The two of them hit it off (they do because the original movie hates women and I do not.), but Darnold thinks Gordon’s following him when they both head to the White House.
Tumblr media
He’s still friends with his childhood best friend, Tommy Coolatta, who’s now the President. (Bear with me here.) Tommy calls Gordon to the White House because their base in Guam was attacked last night, with alien formations that look remarkably similar to Galaga!
Gordon gets excused from the meeting about Guam thanks to general tomfoolery. As he’s heading home, he realizes there’s a new guest in his van.
Tumblr media
Forzen, nicknamed “The Wonder Kid” when arcade gaming was in its prime, was a boy genius whose skills rivalled Gordon’s. Unfortunately, he’s an even bigger loser nerd than Gordon and enjoys taping Baywatch reruns and Irate Gamer videos. Also, he hid in Gordon’s van because he’s quirky like that.
He shows Gordon a prerecorded video that interrupted his channel surfing.
Tumblr media
Apparently, a race of aliens have received the tapes, and they wrongly believe that the footage of video games are footage of real warriors, and therefore a declaration of war. They communicate exclusively using old 80s VHS tapes, the only unifying element between them being a threat of war and a few cameos with a strange-looking man in them.
With another attack being launched on the Taj Mahal, Gordon and Forzen realize what’s going on. The aliens have given them 3 ‘lives’- and they’ve already wasted two.
Since the games are the specific 1982 versions, Gordon and Forzen are the only ones who know the patterns well enough to teach the Navy. (..Ignoring the obvious power fantasy here).
Darnold shows off to Tommy, Gordon and Forzen the new light cannons he invented, which can dissolve the light cubes the game warriors are made of.
The fight is taken to Hyde Park, where the Navy tries and fails to fight Centipede. Gordon and Forzen take the front lines, successfully winning and getting the humans a trophy of their victory. (...It’s Duck Hunt, and some random old man gets it.)
Now that Tommy’s realized the loser nerd gamers are the only ones who can possibly stand against this alien menace, they give them cool jumpsuits and call them Arcaders. Also, they need to talk to the man who beat Gordon at Donkey Kong all those years ago.
Tumblr media
Bubby is an old man. Gordon is a normal man. An adult bragged about beating a teen in video games.
This says a lot about the type of person Bubby is.
He calls himself “the Fireblaster”, and says he’s still the best, calling Gordon “second place” all the time.
The three of them (along with Darnold because the original setup was the creator of Pac-Man was there too but I think Darnold should have fun.) head to New York City, where a giant Pac-Man is destroying the city. To defeat Pac-Man, you need ghosts, so the four of them used modified Mini Coopers.
Gordon gets his arm bitten off by Pac-Man because he tried to reason with it like an idiot, which leaves him hiding in an alley for most of the chase. Forzen gets taken out when they realize Pac-Man has access to power pellets, as does Darnold, but with Bubby’s lightning-fast driving skills, he manages to beat Pac-Man. Unfortunately, he drives into the river, leaving only Gordon. Gordon fakes Pac-Man out by driving up a parking garage and waiting for Pac-Man’s 10-second power pellet to run out.
They won! As a gift, the aliens bestow a fighter from Punch-Out!! (Dr. Coomer. He’s not really in punch out but work with me here) upon them as their second trophy.
The president throws a celebratory gala! Forzen gets to sing his heart out, Gordon and Darnold hang out, Tommy decides Coomer is the most powerful old man...
But then the aliens come on screen, enraged. Apparently, they ‘broke the rules of warfare’, therefore forfeiting, and they say they’ll come to destroy Earth.
Everyone is confused, and we learn thanks to Joshua, Bubby wrote cheat codes on his sunglasses and he’s a big fat cheater.
...Unfortunately the aliens also take Joshua as a Trophy.
Bubby skips town, and the world has gone to shit.
Everything looks shitty, until Tommy saves Gordon from a Creature with his crane game skills of old. He’s suited up to become an Arcader himself!
Forzen volunteers to fight the aliens on the ground, as does Bubby, when he comes back, but Darnold, Tommy, Gordon and Coomer go to face the mothership. In there, they learn that the aliens have a boss who’s taken a human form and calls himself Benrey (he mostly takes the form to mock the humans, though, also he’s been appearing in the little 80′s clip shows the aliens use to communicate). He challenges Gordon to a final match- Donkey Kong. The irony.
Gordon manages to beat Donkey Kong, saving the world and also getting his son back! Cool.
Tommy makes a peace treaty with the aliens, who agree to leave, but Benrey and Coomer decide to stay on Earth, because it’s cool and funny.
Cue 80s ending track.

Watt martian au? Tell me more
!!!!! okay SO
so it was very very important to me that the finale squad be the ares 3 crew because i just needed that to be a thing so
lewis - cairo
martinez - reese
vogel - annleigh
beck - kate
johanssen - eva
watney - mattie
so mattie is, unfortunately, the one who gets stranded on mars
and then for the other four
mitch henderson - riley
venkat kapoor - chess
annie montrose - farrah
mindy park - clark
SO
cairo is the commander of the ares 3 mission, and she's also the geologist
reese pilots the mdv (how they get from the hermes down to mars), the mav (how they get from mars back to the hermes), and i think the hermes (which is the ship that takes them to and from mars, it's really big and expensive so there's only one that's used for the entire ares program)
annleigh is the chemist and astrodynamicist
eva is the computer expert
kate is the flight surgeon and eva specialist (eva stands for extra-vehicular activity, or anything done outside of an earth atmosphere)
mattie is the botanist and engineer
riley is the head of astronaut corps
chess is the manager of the entire ares program
farrah is in charge of nasa's pr
clark works in satellite imaging and he's the one who figures out that mattie is alive
(also they refer to the astronauts with their last names because nasa so technically i should be saying adekoya, roberts, o'daniel, sanchez, dalton, and wheeler, but no♥️)
the mission i think was around 200 days to mars, and then reese piloted the mdv down to the surface, where all their stuff for the mission was there in advance. in the first few days, they set up the hab (base of operations, where they live, etc), the solar panels, and checked out the mav - the ship that was sent in advance and would bring them back to hermes
on sol (mars days are called sols and they're about forty minutes longer than earth days) 6, the mission was hit with a huge sandstorm - the mission was designed to withstand up to 150 km per hour winds, and the storm was 175 km per hour, so yeah, that was very very BAD. the problem wasn't whether the hab would pop - the problem was that the mav couldn't stand up to that much wind for that long. so houston gave the order to abort and they all suited up and went out in the storm to try and get to the mav. halfway there, mattie was struck by debris (the satellite dish) and the antenna went right through her bio-monitor, showing all her vitals as 0. cairo refused to stop looking, but the mav began to tip and she had to get back, and they left for the hermes, believing mattie to be dead.
SURPRISE!! mattie is not, in fact, dead!
the antenna also ripped a hole in her, but the angle at which she landed and also the blood created a weak seal, so her suit was okay. she stayed passed out while the co2 filters were expended, the suit backfilled with nitrogen, and then eventually the oxygen alarm went off because the suit had to backfill with pure oxygen, and the concentration was about 85% which is very bad. she got up, got back to the hab, fixed her wound, and began to figure out what the fuck to do.
the primary comm system was in the satellite dish, which, as mentioned, definitely wasn't functional. the secondary and tertiary comm systems were in the mav, which the rest of the crew took up to the hermes, so clearly those were gone too, so mattie has no way to get in contact with earth or hermes. and in the case of an abort, hermes would only stay in orbit for 24 hours, so by the time mattie could fix the satellite, they'd be long gone.
the surface mission was only for 31 sols, but for redundancy, nasa sent 56 sols worth of food. since they got 6 sols into their mission, mattie has 50 sols of food for 6 people. since she's only one person, she has 300 sols of food, which if she rationed it, would stretch to 400 sols. except she has four years before ares 4 is supposed to launch, and 400 sols of food won't reach there. but!
the surface mission was during thanksgiving, so nasa's psychologists were like "hey, maybe they should cook a meal together for bonding" and so mattie has twelve non freeze dried potatoes. and! she's a BOTANIST! and because of that, she has some stuff for plant experiments - some earth soil! the only problem with mars soil is that it doesn't have the bacteria that is needed for plants, but mattie can mix her soil with mars soil in the hab and have enough to farm a bunch of potatoes. potatoes plus vitamins can help stretch her food supply!
so she grows potatoes. except water is a problem. so she figures she can make water using liquid oxygen, and then gets hydrogen from leftover hydrazine fuel, by running the hydrazine over an iridium catalyst and separating the nitrogen and hydrogen, and then burning the hydrogen and oxygen to make water. except she miscalculated and accidentally filled the hab with hydrogen and made a bomb. so she burned the hydrogen off little by little, forgot to calculate the oxygen she was breathing, blew herself up, and then tried again and eventually fixed her hydrogen problem. so after a lot of effort, she had a way to make water for the potatoes.
the whole time, she's been bored as hell because she left her own entertainment usb stick on the hermes, to focus on the mission, but now she's super bored, so she rifles through the other crewmembers' stuff and finds medical journals in kate's stuff (nerd), nothing in reese's stuff, annleigh's stuff is in german, agatha christie novels in eva's stuff, and disco music and 70s tv in cairo's stuff. so she's losing her mind listening to SO MUCH DISCO.
back on earth, chess is begging the director of nasa, teddy sanders, for some satellite time to take pictures of the ares 3 site, because she figures that since they aborted so early, there's still almost an entire mission up there and she might be able to get funding for an ares 6 mission, she just needs pictures of what the site looks like and the damage from the storm. teddy keeps denying the request because nasa is a public domain organization and has to release all the photos they take within 24 hours, and teddy doesn't want astronaut wheeler's body on the front page of every newspaper in america. eventually, chess convinces him to give her the satellite time, and clark is assigned to take her pictures. when he does, he notices that the solar panels are clean, one of the rovers has been moved, the mdv has been disassembled (mattie needed the hydrazine), and he can't find mattie's body. so he calls chess and they realize shit, mattie is alive. farrah, being the pr manager, is tasked with telling the world that mattie wheeler is alive, which is a disaster, and they work on getting in contact with mattie. riley says "shit, we have to tell the crew" but teddy and chess veto it, because the crew still has ten months of space travel ahead of them, and they need to focus on their mission. riley is pissed, but there's nothing she can do.
in the meantime, mattie figures that in four years, she needs to be at the schiaparelli crater, where ares 4 will land, which is really far away from acidalia planetia, where ares 3 is. so she needs to drive like 3400 kilometers to schiaparelli. as a test, she modifies the rover and spends three weeks driving 1500 kilometers to the site of pathfinder, a 1996 probe that nasa lost contact with in 1997. she gets pathfinder, brings it back to the hab, gets it working, and nasa realizes what she's doing and sets up the old pathfinder computers. mattie hacks the rover, and BAM, she can talk to nasa!
since she has her potatoes, that stretches her food supply a bunch, which gives nasa time to hopefully build a probe to send her supplies to help her last until ares 4 arrives. now that there's a viable rescue plan, riley is cleared to tell the crew.
back on the hermes, eva just got the data dump and she's dispatching personal emails to everyone's laptops when she notices a video file for all of them, and cairo calls the whole crew to come watch. it's riley, saying that mattie is alive and they're going to try to rescue her. mattie stresses that it wasn't the crew's fault every time it comes up. annleigh, reese, kate, and eva are all thrilled that mattie is alive, but cairo is devastated that they left her behind.
mattie has been using airlock 1 every time she leaves the hab, just because that's the one she uses, but the constant use has put a lot of wear and tear on the seams and one day, it's too much and as she's in the airlock, the hab pops, blasting her about 100 meters away, still in the airlock. her faceplate gets cracked, and after 24 hours in the airlock, she manages to fix it, but it's super leaky and it'll only last 4 minutes. so she rolls the airlock back to the hab, goes back in, manages to have just enough time to grab reese's suit's helmet and patch kit, and then escapes to the rover. she gets back in contact with nasa, says she's okay, and fixes the hab, but being exposed to mars's atmosphere killed all her crops, shortening her food supply significantly. so the probe nasa is going to send needs to be a whole lot faster.
nasa builds iris in about 46 days, but they have to cancel inspections to save some time, and the launch fails, and they don't have another booster, so mattie is totally fucked.
nasa's psychologists have mattie write emails to each member of her crew, just in case she doesn't make it, which is becoming more and more likely. the emails (summarized):
to reese: if i die, you need to be the one to talk to my parents. they'll wanna hear about mars. it won't be easy, i know, but i'm asking you to do it, because you're my best friend.
to eva: you're a nerd. seriously, i had to do so much computer stuff to connect pathfinder to the rover and how the hell can you stand it oh my god, you're such a nerd.
to annleigh: chemistry is boring, i hate it. also you are a chemist with a base on mars, you're some sort of mad scientist supervillain.
to kate: okay so i don't have to follow mission rules anymore so: dude... you gotta tell eva how you feel or you'll regret it.
to cairo: it wasn't your fault, okay? you did the right thing, you saved everybody else. don't blame yourself. also why the FUCK do you like disco so goddamn much???????
so it turns out that china actually has a booster that isn't public knowledge, so if nasa could build another probe, china could supply the booster. they agree to it, in exchange that the ares 5 crew will have a chinese astronaut. an astrodynamicist named rich purnell realizes that it would be so much more likely to succeed if they sent the hermes back to mars, so he plots a course that could have china's booster, the taiyang shen, resupply the hermes, and then the hermes would go back to mars, do a flyby, and mattie would meet them in space using the ares 4 mav. the problem is there's only one booster, so they can either build iris 2, which has a high chance of killing one person, or do the rich purnell maneuver, which has a low chance of killing six people. teddy decides to go with iris 2, but riley is furious and disagrees and secretly sends the ares 3 crew the instructions for the rich purnell maneuver.
on the ship, annleigh has a personal email from her family that has a jpeg attachment she can't get open, so she goes and finds eva, who realizes it isn't a jpeg, it's a plain ascii file. annleigh recognizes it as a maneuver for the hermes and explains it to the whole crew. cairo says that if they were to do this, which is something that nasa expressly rejected, it would be mutiny, so it isn't her decision to make. they all have to unanimously agree. obviously, all of them immediately agree to go back and save mattie.
riley gets in trouble with teddy for sending the maneuver, but she has no regrets.
nasa tells mattie the plan for the flyby, and she's cool with it - after all, she already had a plan to drive to schiaparelli eventually.
nasa launches the taiyang shen, and it goes perfectly, resupplying the hermes as expected.
back on mars, mattie is modifying the rovers for the trip to schiaparelli. part of this involves drilling a hole in the roof of rover 1, so that she can fit the life support machines she needs in it during the trip. she accidentally leans the drill against a table, and accidentally sends 9000 milliamps through pathfinder's system, which is designed for 100 milliamps, and totally fries it so she can't talk to nasa anymore, which is bad. she decides to proceed with the plan as intended, and once she gets to the ares 4 mav, she'll be able to talk to nasa again.
back on the hermes, reese complains that the cooling system by her room isn't working, and it's basically trying to cook her every night. mattie's room next to hers has the exact same problem. so she's been sleeping in airlock 2, but that's very dangerous for very obvious reasons. so cairo says "okay, you can sleep in kate's room, and kate can sleep with eva." kate apparently took mattie's email to heart, and they've been trying to be subtle, but it's a pretty small ship and everyone knows they're together. cairo says she doesn't care, since this is already a pretty crazy mission, as long as it doesn't mess with their duties.
back on mars, mattie begins her 100 sol drive to schiaparelli. the problem: there's a dust storm, and her rover is powered by solar panels. it's not as violent as the one that forced them to abort the mission, it's just a huge cloud of dust she can get stuck in. but she manages to figure out how to get around the storm and continues on her merry way to the schiaparelli crater.
when she reaches schiaparelli and begins to descend into the crater, her rover hits a soft spot on the ramp and flips over. she's fine, and it doesn't take too long to fix, so eventually she continues on.
and now she has reached schiaparelli!!!! she gets back in contact with nasa through the mav, and nasa lets the hermes and mav talk directly - not a call, just emails back and forth, but they get to have a conversation and the hermes is so close to earth at this point that they're only a couple light-seconds away, so there's barely any delay.
problem: normally, the hermes would orbit mars for 31 sols and then the mav would bring the crew to low mars orbit and dock with the hermes, but the flyby won't let the hermes go into orbit, so mattie has to basically gut the mav to make it light enough to get up into space entirely. part of that involves removing the entire front of the ship, and the control panels, so mattie won't control the ship - reese will pilot it remotely. everything is good to go, and they're ready for launch.
the day of the rescue comes, and because mars and earth are 12 light-minutes apart, if the ares crew asked a question, it would take 24 minutes to get a response, so they're entirely on their own with no help from nasa. the plan is for reese to fly the ship, eva sysops the ascent, and kate literally has to go out in space, catch the mav, and bring mattie back while annleigh is their backup. reese launches the ship, and mattie had to cover the hole with hab canvas, which rips in the ascent and throws mattie off course. they're 68 kilometers apart, which is way too far. they use the attitude adjusters to get closer to the mav, but then they're going 42 meters per second, which is way too fast. to slow down,,,,, cairo has annleigh build a bomb and they blow a hole in the vehicular airlock, which helps them slow down enough that kate can catch mattie.
kate goes out, gets mattie out of the ship, and annleigh reels them in. cairo reports six crew safely aboard, and there's worldwide celebration.
kate brings mattie back to the medbay and bandages her ribs, and it ends with mattie sitting in the medbay, sore, exhausted, starving, vision blurry from acceleration sickness, and so goddamn happy that she's going to live. she reflects a bit on how many people came together to save her life, and how that's basic human nature, and she's just really glad to be on her way back to earth.

Karate Kid/Cobra Kai survey
I was tagged by @ohmyjasonsudeikis and @robbyykeene (thank you!!)
It's the year 2021 and you're obsessed with The Karate Kid. How are you feeling?
GREAT honestly asldkjflkj listen if I had been alive when the original film came out, it’s definitely something I would’ve been obsessed with. Also, I found Cobra Kai at a time last year when I just... really needed it?!? I’m so happy for that ridiculous nostalgic cheesy heartwarming frustrating lil life raft to cling onto.
Did you grow up with TKK or are you new to the series?
I grew up with The Karate Kid!! I never even knew there were sequels until getting into CK but my dad very proudly showed the original film to me when I was young and we used to watch it together a lot. It had such a major pop culture presence in the 90′s and that was really fun to grow up around.
We gotta do the basics. Favorite character:
HAWK!! Followed very closely by Miguel, Robby, and Amanda.
Favorite ship:
If we’re talking canon, it used to be Carmen/Johnny but that’s a bit of a bumpy ride at the moment so we’ll have to wait for S4 to see where that goes lol but my real favorite ship is Migueli! :D
Underrated character:
Honestly any of the Cobra Kais who have stuck with Cobra Kai through multiple regime changes and are now, oddly enough, the “senior” members of that dojo?? Specifically that one taller dude... I never remember his name... the one that was always hanging around with Mikey in S2. Also Aisha OF COURSE. #stillbitter
Underrated ship (don’t say therapy, lol):
MIGUELI!!! Incredibly, incredibly underrated but an endless amount of potential
Wax On, Wax Off or Sweep the Leg?
Gotta go with Wax On, Wax Off for purely nostalgic reasons
Which of Daniel’s dumb little outfits is your favorite?
That blue shirt in Okinawa that for some reason makes him look like a frail senior citizen on a cruise??????
Character from the films you most want to return, who’s not Terry Silver:
I absolutely cannot take credit for this idea but someone (for the life of me I can’t remember who) said they want Mike Barnes in Cobra Kai but only if he comes back as the most well-adjusted adult on that entire series and now I CANNOT stop thinking about that. I just want like one (1) scene of him not even interacting with anyone else, just like driving his minivan in the suburbs and he reads about some karate-incited chaos in Encino and he just shakes his head and goes back to drinking his oat milk latte.
Scene that lives in your head rent-free:
Anytime Amanda is on screen but specifically when she freaks out on Kreese at the committee hearing or when she tells Ali about Daniel and Johnny’s feuding dojos. Also the one-shot runner from the S2 finale... it’s just so good.
Will Anthony LaRusso ever be relevant?
Considering Daniel barely paid attention to that child when he wasn’t battling for the soul of the valley... probably no. Though I do want him to have some unexpected scene-stealer moment next season.
You live in The Valley and are forced into the karate gang war. Which dojo do you join?
Cobra Kai if it’s the late S1/early S2 version. I could handle the yelling and the intensity and I would love to be a part of that squad. If this is framed as a post S3 question, begrudgingly I’d have to choose that one bird dojo that I still can’t believe is real.
What’s your training montage song?
Ready For It by Taylor Swift. Not so much the chorus but definitely the verses where it’s got that steady beat and you could do some cool editing cuts along to it.
It’s the crossover event of the century! Which TV show are you combining with Cobra Kai for an hour-long Saturday night special?
STRANGER THINGS. Can you imagine some weird time travel scenario where the gang gets sent to the future and everyone is very confused but instantly recognizes Daniel and Johnny a;sldkfa;ldfkj I really just want Steve Harrington to be like “Listen, I’ve battled inter-dimensional aliens with nothing but a modified baseball bat and you’re telling me your biggest concern right now is a KARATE TOURNAMENT?”
Tagging @hashbrownteamcobrakai @cobrakaiforlife @afurioushawk @magicknightblue @skeletore @overallobsessiveness @cobraskai and anyone else who wants to play!

D.E.B.S: Why this movie needs an update.
I wrote a review for "D.E.B.S" for college and made a slightly modified version of the review for this page. You should be able to pinpoint where this version of the review becomes less of a college report and more of a fan discussion.
Tumblr media
D.E.B.S is a 2004 romantic comedy spy film, which has a plot based around the D.E.B.S program. With a secret portion of the SAT's tests, students are selected based on if they have what it takes; the ability to lie, cheat, fight and kill. The selected students are recruited into the D.E.B.S Academy to be trained to be spies. Their top student Amy Bradshaw is assigned to lead a squad to stop and catch a notorious super-villainess Lucy Diamond, who has a reputation for being a dangerous threat, who has killed a number of agents in the past. Things take quite turn when Amy and Lucy actually meet.
The film was not well received upon its initial release, with largely negative reviews, and faded into obscurity. Despite this the film has long since developed a cult following over the years. It is noted to being one of the few mainstream films that has a main focus and positive representation of homosexual and lesbian relationships, in a time where such depictions were rare.
Tumblr media
One criticism is the focus on humor, emphasis on the romantic plot, use of cartoon tropes, and minimal character development. The character who gets the most positive development in my opinion is the films ostensible super-villain antagonist, while the bulk of the cast are pretty one note.
Tumblr media
This can be alluded to the film not reaching it's intended audience, being a near decade before it's time, or perhaps the mainstream audience was expecting something different. If you watch the movie expecting it to be a fully serious and strait forward spy adventure movie, you may be disappointed; but one must understand going in that this is not a strait spy movie, this is a genre parody/satire/borderline deconstruction. And that's before it outright switches genres.
While the film is far from being a masterpiece, one word I use to describe this film is "Subversive". This subversion can be best demonstrated in how the antagonists and protagonists switch over the film; how we are introduced to a mysterious super-villainess who is supposed to be a threat to the known world, turning out to be a socially awkward bean who is more interested in making love than war.
Tumblr media
The actual antagonists having an unsubtle parallel with religious groups who believe that conservation therapy can cure homosexuality. Yeah, I know the D.E.B.S issues where that Amy was in love with a supervillain that would cause them bad publicity, as opposed to Amy being a lesbian, but the symbolism is still obvious.
Tumblr media
One of the secondary antagonists, Amy’s boyfriend Bobby, is rather ahead of his time; nowadays we’d can see him as a commentary on  quote — unquote Nice Guy's who think they are entitled to the girl, and owed their affections. This kind of behavior is only getting called out nowadays, and yet this movie came back in 2004.
Even with the subversion, it is a more simplistic film, and lacking in that much depth. It is more about the forbidden romance than a typical "Save the world" story. This is a bit of a shame really; can you imagine the kind of movie we'd get where the antagonists are an organization - claiming to be a heroic spy agency- that are trying to groom child soldiers with an aged elitist who is more concerned in publicity and reputation than actually stopping alleged threats ? Now suddenly the headmistress Miss Petrie is reminding me of Supreme Leader Snoke.
We get something like that, but it's actual execution is lacking, and for all it's satire, it doesn't go the extra mile it could have to be a subversive masterpiece.
Now for the fandom comparisons.
Tumblr media
I have heard some people try to compare and contrast between D.E.B.S and Kim Possible; specifically  AgentDiamond to Kigo, but for the life of me I just don't see it. My unpopular opinion regarding Kigo aside, I don't see that much similarity between these relationships. Amy isn't very similar to Kim, and Lucy isn't too similar to Shego (honestly Lucy is more how I picture a Drakken and Shego’ daughter growing into). The point is Amy and Lucy are too different from Kim and Shego to make a comparison.
Tumblr media
Amy meanwhile reminds me more of characters like Buffy Summers and Laura Hollis than Kim.
Amy’s characterization is that she is the top D.E.B.S student and Agent, and like Buffy is one of the best of what she does (even though we don’t see that much spy action throughout the movie, so how exactly she is the best we do not see or know, we’re just going to have to take their word for it).
Honestly I am more reminded of Laura Hollis from Carmilla the Series when I look at Amy. Both just have this kind of geeky, kind of naive, air about them, who becomes more strong after initially acting tough, and both are journalist students. Mind you, Laura is a far more animated character; she has more depth to her, is more three dimensional and her character arc is told over the course of three seasons, while Amy is condensed in one movie. As a result Amy feels more like a audience stand in.
I think that’s the other problem with this movie; as the whole everything is rushed. Amy has just gone through a breakup and is all to quick to start her relationship with Lucy. Amy becomes more willing to stand up for herself, but she was only being kicked around for the third act of the movie, Lucy has a Love Equals Redemption arc, and the most developed character in the movie, but even that is condensed in under half an hour.
As far as AgentDiamond’s actual relationship goes ? I see it as more of a high school version Supercorp. Mixed with Hollistien. I very rushed version of the two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My final thoughts; what I liked most about the movie was its subversiveness, even though I didn't think it went far or deep enough to make it a masterpiece. That and the film was way ahead of its time. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing reboot to this movie; be it a movie trilogy or TV Series, updated to the present day. There is some good pieces for deconstruction aside from the romance, I just think they didn't go all the way with them.
That’s just my thoughts though.

Note
Was there any reason that they made her racist? Like she’s already an unlikable manipulative character but that was what really made everyone hate her, rightfully so, and they just didn’t even properly address it and acted like it was fine and still had her end up with moyo despite the clear backlash that they were facing. Like I’m pretty sure the rest of the story would have been the same without that I still don’t get why they just had to put that in there
similar anon: The interns this season are gonna be the same next season? So we might get this season writer working on next season too or...
similar anon: Let's say s5 goes ahead (w/out the network or whatever reconsidering due to diminishing returns or w/out another lockdown halting production). Do you think they will try to keep this near one minute daily clip going? They have no idea about pacing in general, but this is the worst. It doesn't allow for anything to happen - most of the time when there are multiple 1 min + clips scattered across a day, one longer clip would've been better. It sucks. i hope they throw every s4 strategy away
similar anon: Aside from the shambles of the rest of the season. This episode alone might be the worst constructed piece of media I’ve ever seen. Even if you need to rework things at the end...make it make sense. Thank god this is over and we can put it past us. I was praying for Kato to leave and never return but here we are...
ok let me explain what I know about the construction and approach of this season. For simplicity sake lets call the intern that got promoted into the writer role Sally for a naming convention. From what my connects have implied it seems that this season was pretty much a throw away season because something that kept popping up from sources is the fact that wtfock went into this season knowing that this season was never going to impact or really effect the narrative arcs of our main character plots. This is complete theory but I have a feeling that sputnik and the TV network got slotted an airing slot and wtfock could have either let it go or fulfilled it and so they put together what they could because views are views right? I personally don't think Bram was available this season thus why Sally stepped in to write large portions of this season tho she had no previous professional experience scripting a show outside of wtfock. I think the one minute clips were mostly to aid her because from what I have been told the s4 script got written between June-August. I do not think Sally got much time to write her portions but also I do not think Sally would have ever got the opportunity to write this much of the season if Bram was more available to take a hands on approach. I also think wtfock promoted a new director and they also probably thought let him get his feet wet b4 yasmina’s season. I think the biggest issue for me is it seems like the writer was writing and modifying almost up until the end of the season. I just think this entire season’s writing process was super volatile because changes were being made and the constant need to include the boy/girl squads within clips really hindered any pov development for Kato. Concerning making her racist so I think it comes down to lack of experience. Sally is pretty young and she is white and I truly dont think she really understands what she wrote and what her writing implied. I think she was naive and became enamored by the whole subversive protagonist trope. Also its very clear to me Wtfock actually doesn't really understand the values of SKAM. Thus why Sally did such a bad job.
