So...the Acolyte trailer has really hit a nerve in the fandom and I'm kind of ticked off about the reasons everyone's ticked off. Now, granted, I have my own personal reasons for being mildly frustrated with it and scared for the show, but I'll keep them to myself until the show airs.

The line that has been most controversial by far is "This isn't about good or bad. This is about power, and who is allowed to use it."

"But Star Wars is about good and evil!" I agree. However, this is one out of context line in a trailer! We don't know anything really about Mother Aniseya yet other than that she leads a coven of witches and excuse me but since when have witches been the good guys in Star Wars? I am betting this line is far less simple and far more interesting in context.

And then the other glaring controversy: People are getting uptight about the show portraying the Jedi Order as imperfect.

Spoiler alert: It's from the point of view of the bad guys!

We already know the titular character would be a dark side Acolyte. This show is likely going to have a very heavily biased portrayal of the Jedi. And that doesn't mean this portrayal is correct! We're seeing it through the eyes of someone who is being manipulated by evil.

Tl;dr: We don't know what story the Acolyte's going to tell yet. And I, for one, am at least going to attempt to give it the benefit of the doubt. At the very least, I'm not going to bash it publicly before it's even been seen.
