Ford Mustang Boss 302 vs Mach 1: two-trick ponies - Simon Hucknall @Classic & Sports Car
Like watching an episode of Countryfile with incidental music by Motörhead, wrestling this 1970 Boss Mustang along sinuous roads against a bucolic English backdrop rankles a little. It’s no fault of the car, a more perfect example of which would be hard to find. The Mustang Boss 302 (left) and Mach 1 represent a golden era for Ford’s famous pony car It’s more that the Boss 302’s headbanging…

UUUUGGGGGHHHHH
uuuuggggghhhhh
I'm not 100% sure how we got back here, folks, but I'm 100% obsessing over music and guitars for the first time since I was a teenager.
Guys...it's bad.
And for those who've known me for a long time here you may be hearing about this for the first time, but I could not get enough of playing guitars, reading about guitars, and listening to as much guitar music as I could when I was a teenager.
Could I actually play? Not really. I mean, not if you're talking about any lessons at all or trying to learn from a book or anything. I just kind of picked it up and kept playing around for years, just laying down riff after riff and playing with solo after solo. Just fucking around.
And then, eventually, I needed money and didn't have space anymore and I had to sell everything. I thought that door was closed by the time I was in my early 20's, starting to really work for a living and trying to live an adult's life. I looked back on those years a bit wistfully but with a real feeling that I had left childish things behind me...
Until the last month or so. I think I can point the finger squarely at us attending the Guns N' Roses show. Even with 100° F heat and me wishing that I had brought my earplugs I got swept away with it all, specifically with Slash. He'd change guitars regularly, usually for something that I was familiar with him playing. After the show I got curious and looked up his gear online to discover the web pages devoted to his guitars and his playing in general. Then I started Googling some guitars to see if they're still around, and any variations...and how have amps changed in the last 25 years...oh, emulators sure have come a long way...and they're fairly affordable...and while Fender's lineup has changed significantly since the 90s they still have a lot of decent guitars at reasonable prices...
All the while I'm also getting back into bands and songs I haven't heard in up to decades, just gorging myself on all the 90s rock I also "put away" at some point in my 20s, like one of my favorite bands, Hum, and getting into groups I could have really dug at the time, like My Bloody Valentine, and exploring newer stuff like finally getting more into Red Fang's discography...and then new bands and sounds spiraling off of those listens and searches...
And guys...GUYS...since I was into guitars this whole internet thing exploded, so I can hear guitars and amps and pedals and interviews that simply weren't available to me when I was previously obsessed. I can get a far better sense for things than driving an hour away to the nearest Guitar Center only to keep my hands in my pockets as I look at gear and equipment, too afraid to do anything in public, eventually going home and noodling by myself for a while.
And did you know that there are a ton of free or paid online classes where you don't have to interact with a human if it makes you feel self-conscious or anxious? And did you know that the Fender Mustang Micro Amp can fit in your pocket, has some EQ and preset sound options, a headphone jack, and can plug directly into your computer? And it's only $120 for an amp that's more versatile than the one I had 30 years ago AND it can help you can basically use it as a direct-to-computer recording device? And, holy crap, but GarageBand, while simple, is still a very competent recording suite and it's just free, right there on my Mac and everything?
Okay, breathing.
Because this is how it goes for me. I get all interested in something, all wound up, and I imagine how cool things can be, what I'll do, how things will turn out, all with an overactive imagination, until I'm just done with it and I move on. Except I don't know if I move on because I never follow through or if it's because I just fixate on things in a capricious manner. If it's because I never follow through then I should change that by following through (hello, writing ideas from five months ago that turned into nothing). But if it's because I'm capricious then I should just let it be and it'll ride itself out.
Now: how can I tell the difference without a lot of time, money, and effort? That's the question.
But it's been kinda fun as a weird hobby, just looking and reading and watching and listening. Maybe the fear of disappointment will be enough to keep me away from actually doing it, which isn't great, and maybe I should pursue more things that I think will bring me joy, even if I never truly get into it or keep it going for long, because life is short and pursuing happiness should be one of life's goals.

Thom Yorke’s Gear for The Smile’s NPR Tiny Desk Show
Tumblr media
Thom at the piano during Panavision.
For The Smile’s Tiny Desk performance, Thom played his Fender Mustang bass on The Smoke and his vintage Guild Starfire II bass on Skirting On The Surface. Although we don’t get to hear the song, we can see that Thom played his 1964 Fender Jazzmaster when they performed We Don’t Know What Tomorrow Brings. The upright piano on Panavision belongs to Tiny Desk, as do the amps and microphones (we also explained this our last post). In an Instagram post, Bob Boilen mentioned that the band rehearsed for more than an hour before deciding which songs to play. This explains the range of guitars and basses that Thom brought along, only three of which would appear in the final video. Thom also brought a small pedalboard with a selection of his pedals for the show, and some of them went unused too — notably the Death By Audio Echo Dream 2, which he uses on You Will Never Work In Television Again.
Thom’s Instruments
Upright Piano
Fender EOB Stratocaster guitar
Fender Jazzmaster guitar in Olympic White (1964)
Martin 00-18 acoustic guitar (with Fishman Rare Earth pickup)
Fender Mustang bass in Olympic White
Guild Starfire II hollowbody bass in Cherry-Red (late-60s)
Thom’s Amplifiers (shared with Jonny):
Tiny Desk’s Fender ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb combo amplifier
Tiny Desk’s Ampeg RB-110 combo amplifier
Thom’s Effects Pedals:
Guitar/Bass->
Boss TU-2 tuner
Death By Audio Echo Dream 2
Death By Audio Interstellar Overdriver
Earthquaker Devices Plumes overdrive
Telenordia TK-23 Kompressor
-> Amplifier
GigRig Generator and Distributor power supply
Tumblr media
A photo of Thom’s mini bass and guitar pedalboard for the Tiny Desk show (joshrogosin). Looks like it’s just a plank with some velcro, almost certainly put together just for Tiny Desk.
Tumblr media
Thom’s array of guitars (joshrogosin).
We can see Thom’s EOB Stratocaster with black covers on the Fernandes pickups. This was probably one of Fender’s original prototypes for Ed, before they sourced white pickup covers for the final version.
The Martin acoustic the newer one which Thom acquired around 2015, likely to save his older Martin from touring wear. It’s easiest to identify by the wear in the finish near the soundhole. Thom used his older Martin acoustic to performance Free In The Knowledge at the Royal Albert Hall in 2021. But for The Smile shows this year, he played this newer Martin, as can be seen in video from the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Take A Deep Breath
The first post of the new year and it regards a little project that kept me busy over the holidays which is detailed below. But first, over the last couple of weeks I am yet again having issues with Facebook – my Nemesis. I created a second business page which is a couple of years old now, as my original page was hacked. That page is still up, but I can’t access it because they have blocked ME…

:)) ,I hope ur doing well,I just wanted to bless you with compliments 💗,I think you’re so cool I would love to like u when I’m older literally,I love your weirdness and how authentic you are,you have such good interests in things and it’s so amazing how u write so beautifully, also do you have any tips on guitar playing, I would love to learn how to play the guitar :))))
,Love blue cat.
Hey Blue cat!
Thank you so much for appreciating the pieces of myself that I put out there :') aw!! My heart feels so warm after reading your feedback.
As for tips on guitar playing; I'm honestly a child of the internet in that I literally learned everything I know about guitars from Youtube, haha. I bought my first guitar at a pawn shop when I was 18 for $50 (very cheap) & an used Fender Mustang III amp for $100. It was a used Fender "Starcaster" made in Indonesia which I'm pretty sure are discontinued now. A guitar that closely resembles it is the Squier Stratocaster. It's sort of the guitar that everyone gets as a first guitar. I still use & love that Fender Mustang III amp; it's got a USB plug-in & a lot of customizable settings for different sounds.
You could start off with an acoustic guitar, depending on what music you like to play. No amp needed for those! I have a Yamaha A1M acoustic-electric guitar (so I can plug it into an amp to record, if I want to).
I've gotten most of my guitars from the Used wall of Guitar Center. If I want to learn certain songs, I'll look the title up on Youtube + "tutorial", or I'll look up the chords on Google for simpler songs :) .
Good luck with your playing! It's really fun once you get the hang of it!
Lots of love & thanks again for your kind words,
Tina <3

2011-2014 Ford Mustang S197: A History & Evolution - @DIYFord
2011-2014 Ford Mustang S197: A History & Evolution – @DIYFord
2011-2014 Ford Mustang S197: A History & Evolution The Mustang has a special place in the heart of America’s car culture. We all have a Mustang story, and it usually goes like this: “My [insert family member or friend] had a Mustang, and [insert fun memory].” The Mustang can accommodate a four-person family on an unforgettable trip across the country, or it can be used to merely run errands.…

Hournite Fic- Amped!
This will be the events that take place after the scene at the High school from 3x07 (Obviously, not canon.  But a girl can hope).
Spoilers to some extent for those who have not had the pleasure of watching 3x07 yet.  I regret not watching it live.
You can also read my fic on my ff.net.
As always,
Happy Reading!

“I’m so amped!”
These words kept echoing in Beth’s head all the way back to the garage.  She’s glad Rick seemed to have calmed down enough to drive them back to the garage, but she did notice Rick driving a little faster than normal.
After changing back into her normal clothes, a floral long sleeve shirt and a brown corduroy skirt, she walks back into the main room to see Rick waiting for her.  He was leaning against one of the cars Zeek was working on earlier in the week.
Holding the strap to her backpack a little tighter, she walks over to Rick and asks, “Are you okay?”
Rick gives her an arrogant shit eating grin, “I’m super actually.  Never been better, why?”  His hands were deep in his pockets of his gray sweatshirt clenching and unclenching like he’s ready to fight.  She also notices he couldn’t stand still; his legs jittering like the Energizer bunny.
Beth gives him a sympathetic look, “Rick, I think the hourglass working for longer than an hour is effecting you.”  Rick stops fidgeting long enough to listen to her.  She can tell she has his full attention, which was nothing new.  But she did notice, back at the high school, he would only listen to her when it was serious.  Like talking about Courtney still wanting to be part of the team.  The look he gave her…she knew she got through to him somehow.
But can she do it before it’s too late?
She can see the words were affecting him somehow, his hazel eyes seems soft and endearing like usual…but then they weren’t.  It’s like something blocked him from really hearing her words.  His eyes glazed over into this cocky gleam.  It reminded Beth of the jocks at school.
This was not good.
“Beth, Beth, Beth.”  Rick walked closer to her, invading her personal space.  This typically would never make Beth feel anything but butterflies in her stomach, but right now, she felt like vomiting.
“I’m great, happier than ever.”  He wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her close to his side.  He leans down close enough that she can smell the mint on his breath.  “You look cute by the way.”
Beth’s eyes widen behind her glasses and unwraps Rick’s arm from around her.
She shakes her head and takes a big step away from him.
“No.”  Her tone short and full of anger.  “Until you figure your shit out, don’t talk to me unless we’re under immediate threat.”  If Beth weren’t so angry, she would have thought twice before cursing.  But she didn’t care.  Everything was absolute shit and she had no one.
That alone broke her the most as she walked out of the garage and into the night.
She could hear Rick yelling for her but she didn’t care.  She let the tears stream down her face as she walked down the long road to her house.  She hiked her bag higher on her shoulders as she continued down the street.
She sniffled ever so often, feeling the tears slowly coming to a stop.  The only sounds were the fall leaves running by in the late October breeze.  The moon hung high in the sky as she turned the corner to her house.
Immediately she freezes.  She sees a familiar yellow mustang stationed outside her house waiting for her. With whatever strength she had left, she walked past the vintage vehicle and starts to walk up her driveway.
“Beth!  Wait!”  She shakes her head as she turns to face Rick.  At first she couldn’t tell what was different, but then it clicked.
She gasps, “You took it off.”  She looks to his chest and the back up to his eyes.  “Why?”
He shakily runs a hand through his hair.  Beth didn’t see it before, but the light from the street lamp illuminates Rick’s face.  He look’s exhausted.  Like he hasn’t slept in days.
“Oh, Rick.”  Any anger she had towards him melted away as she reaches out and takes his face in her hands.  “You can’t keep using the hourglass like this, you aren’t okay!”  She could feel the sting of tears again,  “I don’t care if it will take us all night, we are going to figure out how to fix it.  Properly!”
“Okay.”  He whispers.  “I’m so sorry, Beth.”  A single tear falls down his cheek, Beth wipes it away.
“It’ll be okay.  We’ll make it okay.”  She promises and steps back.  She offers her hand to him.  He stares down at it blankly and then back up to her.
She wiggles her fingers and smiles, “As long as you don’t try to flirt with me with the hourglass on, I think we’ll be fine.”
Rick blanches, “I’m never going to live this down am I?”  He gingerly takes her hand, afraid she’ll pull away from him again.  But instead she laces their fingers together and pulls him in the direction of her front door.
Beth giggles, “You’re lucky Yolanda and Court were not there and the coms were off.”
Rick rolls his eyes, “I wasn’t that bad.”  If Rick were being honest, he’d say he somewhat remembers what he said and did.  But all he knows is how tired he is and how much he wants to curl up on his bed and sleep.
“Yeah okay,”  She turns to face him with a big grin.  Beth wasn’t the type to tease but she likes the reaction she’s getting from Rick.  “Mr. ‘I’m amped!’”.
Rick’s jaw drops in disbelief.
Beth laugh as she opens the door to her house and walks inside, pulling Rick behind her.  He lets go of her hand to take off his shoes and drop his bag on the dining room table.  Beth follows close behind and sits down across from him, as if they were at the Pit Stop.
“I’d say you’re the worst, but we both know that’s not true.” Beth could see a glint of admiration in his eyes.  “But I really am sorry for how I acted.”  He broke their gaze, unable to look at her, reliving the last few hours.  “But you knew how to get through to me.”
Beth shifts uncomfortably at his praise.  She said what needed to be said in that moment.  She knew she had to hurt him for him to know what he was doing was wrong.  But she knows that if Rick tries to wear the hourglass again, she might not be able to get him back so easily.
She can only hope they can fix the hourglass, if not, Hourman will cease to exist.
“I didn’t want to hurt you, but you really made me angry.” She answers honestly.  “I thought I could use my usual charm to get through to you, but that didn’t seem to work.”
“I heard you, ya know.”  He lays his hand on top of hers.  “I just couldn’t break through until you left crying.”  He squeezes her hand.  “I really am sorry, Beth.”
“I know you are.”  She glances at their hands.  “But we can get through this.  We’ll figure it out, together.”  She gives him her best Beth Chapel smile.  He grins back and pulls out his dad’s journal.
“Let’s get to work.”

Listen listen listen.. so you know how usually AU Dean is a mechanic and Sammy boy followed his dreams and became a lawyer? Well, what if they BOTH were raised by mechanic!Bobby to know the ins and outs of cars? Oh and I have a Sabriel prompt you’ll love?
Prompt-
Gabriel’s car won’t start because he left the headlights on in a store parking lot. Coincidentally he’s also an idiot and doesn’t know crap about cars so he has to go inside the store to hunt for SOMEONE that does. Good thing he sees a man in a nice suit who looks like he’d own a big car with loads of tools. (The fact that he’s also incredibly attractive did make him win against the actual mechanic looking guy at the entrance but hey, who can blame him? It’s just a car.)
Short mock up for inspiration— feel free to take any ideas you need!
Gabe’s found out he left his headlights on and he’s not desperate but he wants the hell out of the Whole Foods parking lot. His reputation as a junkfood till you drop kind of guy can’t handle it, and he was only there for Cas— anyway, he needs his car jump started. He goes inside to scout out someone to help and the first person he sees is a younger guy in a suit which means a good big car to jump his crappy mustang junker. With target spotted, the target happily obliges and says he can meet him at his car. Gabe gives him a direction and a “AND IT’S CANDY APPLE RED! DONT FORGET IT!” To which Sammy muses “Candy apple red? What a specific color.”
They both meet at the car, Sammy brings his right on over but sees Gabe’s blocked in with his nose facing another car, so now he has to push the mustang out and into an open spot next to HIS car. So they put it into neutral, Gabe jokingly catcalls him/pretends to be a damsel in distress and Sam loves the faux attention, Sam gets to taking his jumpers out and- he forgot Dean took them for the shop. So now they’re both asking around for cables, any cables, Sam is sweating and Gabriel is trying not to laugh at this stranger who he thinks is awfully cute. They get cables from the manager with the exchange of Sam’s keys, they jump the car and talk aimlessly for near an hour, (Gabe’s car is SHIT) discovering problem after problem with his battery and when all hope was almost lost, Sam puts the black jumper on the negative cable again and WHAM, it’s starting baby!! They are over joyed and near a reckless marriage in Las Vegas at this point—they’re so amped, they hug, realize what they’re doing and get off each other, exchange numbers and Sam goes to get his keys with a text confirmation about a friendly hang out which maybe could lead to a date… maybe.
