Natural History of Fear is one story i never ever want to spoil for someone else. Like most of the time spoilers won't change an experience that much, especially with doctor who, but goddd with this audio.
I'm so glad any memes, fanart, or other posts I'd seen before listening never actually got into the specifics of the story. Going into it practically blind was such an unforgettable experience.

Paul McGann ate a rat in one audio. The eighth doctor did not eat a rat in one audio. There’s a difference.

Doctor Who - The Natural History of Fear
The most successful of the Divergence Universe’s first season and absolutely not the kind of story they should’ve been doing at that point. First off this is C’rizz’s second story and should be focused on fitting him better into the Doctor/Charley team. We still barely have any idea of how his relationship to them works but instead of building that we focus on a standalone story that only kinda involves the main characters.
As a story in itself it’s interesting, but also somewhat dense. It’d probably benefit from multiple listens but I personally don’t have the interest in putting in the effort. It’s a fascinating use of the audio medium, pulling multiple tricks to confuse and wrong foot the listener. The twist at the end is a brilliant use of using Audio and the lack of visual to pull one out from under the audience. And also the actors feel more comfortable with the material than would the rest of the season.
7/10

Night Thoughts was a great audio to start out October. One of the creepiest I have listened to yet. Between this and Live 34 (not that creepy but really good) the Seventh Doctor is on a roll.
Creepiest Audios for me so far:
Here There Be Monsters (1st Doctor)
Loups Garoux, Spare Parts, Axis of Insanity
(5th Doctor)
Holy Terror, Jubilee (6th Doctor)
Night Thoughts (7th Doctor)
The Chimes of Midnight, Schzero, The Natural History of Fear (8th Doctor)
Time Reever (10th Doctor)

The Natural History of Fear is a serious story about interesting philosophical concepts of identity and resistance, with amazing performances by all actors; the concepts feel original and well-executed, leaving you immersed in the story as you slowly begin to understand what's going on and then that understanding suddenly shifts with new information-
*paul mcgann eats a rat*
and the characters are extremely compelling and the audio format allows for well-constructed stories within stories-
*what do you mean you have eight limbs*
and there are so many ideas within this single story that they even need an extra long outro to give you time to unpack it!

I’m so normal about The Natural History of Fear I’m so normal-
It’s beautiful. It makes no damn sense but it doesn’t matter because the story is well-told. The sound design and use of the medium are incredible and right up there with Scherzo. Paul McGann eats a rat. Listening to it for the first time was one of the most stressful media experiences I’ve had. Everyone is a fucking spider in the end.
This audio is always going to haunt me what is this audio what’s happening what is this society what the FUCK

Whilst the return of Doctor Who in 2005 brought lots of good things, including, for sure, the return of Doctor Who, I think it did untold damage to Big Finish audio stories
