Never such an ambuscade—by the striking eyes staring at you from across the well-lighted room or in bed at two in the morning. Nicole, a love so gentle and bold, she smiles at you and it falls hard on your heart. The blossoming feeling of love, nudging your body towards her without a second thought.
“Hey,” you greeted her with such softness, her own hand meeting yours and pulling you into her embrace. “Hi,” she had whispered back as the crook of her neck became the bed for your head to rest.
Bodies sway as music played in the background. The humming sound pays you no mind as your heart submerged within the comfort of her arms around your body, the heat that radiates a warmth to your heart and something that makes you stomach flutter—as if, butterflies were making home by the base of your stomach.
“You look beautiful tonight,” you muttered, leaning away enough to meet her eyes. “Really beautiful,” you added and saw the way her eyes seems to glint, it’s gentle at first when she leans her forehead against yours and the embrace of her lips on yours—it leaves you begging for more than hasty kisses in a room full of people.
Nicole knows this, the nudging of your heart towards her and how your eyes simply never left hers, not for the sake of other’s advances as your eyes were shun for her—only for her.
“And you,” she paused, hands moving to rest on your waist as she leads the swaying of your body to the music. “You are a work of art,” she whispered, and you had to stop your body from reacting to the drop of voice or how her hand inches lower.
“I,” your words form and dissolve in your throat, the warm lips of her meeting the crook of your neck, slowly trailing to a spot that you wish she didn’t—
And a breathless moan leaves your mouth, warm tongue gliding across your sensitive skin before the nimble of her teeth makes the ache of need grow in your stomach. The hands on your waist tightens. It leaves you with a high, the kind that wonders of people watching two actors risking their image for a quick moment together at a Hollywood party, those who assumed a failed marriage will render her broken—infinitely, the people who spew jealous at knowing she found you and you—
“God, Nicole, I love you,” and the confession wasn’t old, those words of love fell from your mouth by the sheer moment your eyes met hers. The mornings where you woke up with your head on her chest and limps tangled, the only thought in your head were filled of her as the confession of love leaves your mouth and her cheeks reddens with the excuse of morning’s cold.
Nicole doesn’t miss the moment your hand rest on her nape, seemingly ensuring she won’t stop marking your neck while the other on her shoulder, holding yourself from falling apart before her.
And you quietly allowed her to guide you away from the party. Several people noticing the eagerness on her face and the pure bliss on yours, the ones offering smiles of their own while some, the little population of them, still festering of jealous to know that she—is completely in love with you as you are with her.
You couldn’t tell time at that moment—perhaps, it was seconds or hours later that she pulled away, eyes dark of lust as stared into your equally lustful eyes. But you take the time, remembering the details of her face, the spaces from one birth mark to the other, the way her lips were full and when she smiles, it’s sets ablaze to your heart and your own lips curves like hers.
“I love you,” her words meet with an eager kiss from you, and you felt the smile appearing on her face from where lips have yet to part. “Let’s leave,” she mumbled, hot breath hitting your lips from the proximity.

Lisa,
Per our last letter: I am so impressed! Physics is fascinating but I do not have the brain for it. I love when my friends who love math and physics tell me about it though, they make it make sense, you know? My last roommate kept a whiteboard in her room and just FILLED it with mathematics and would dissect math problems in conversations with us in order to solve them. It was fun. Pity about the Men In STEM type of Personality though, I'm sure you're a delight to chat with minus the golf. Funny, I get zapped myself.... not irregularly? I like the way it makes my fingertips buzz.
As for essayists and Youtubers I also quite like Jacob Geller and watch Bernadette Banner, Bernadette is an inspiration to me. I'm very familiar with both nightmind and Defunctland, I also share a theme park fascination. I love videos of urban exploration in places like that, as well as the technology behind them. My specific fascination is dark rides, but I also enjoy just watching rollercoaster videos too just cuz they're neat. I started in the theme park side of youtube when I started watching Haunted House runthrough videos, looking at the effects and costumes, then it moved on to the dark rides and went from there.
I also watch Morgan Donner, Nicole Rudolph, Karolina Zebrowska, Sew Rena and Rebecca Maksy who are in the same vein of creator as Bernadette. I also enjoy doll creators in the background like Dollightful and Hextian, etellan and Poppen Atelier. Essayists I like, or content creators in general, Athena P is deeply funny, Strange Aeons and Izzyzz are very popular, Kaz Rowe is my BELOVED for a LGBT perspective on history, Li Speaks and Dream Jelly for nostalgia essays, CZWorld and Dead Meat are great for horror, Caitlin Doughty for some really good insight on death work and death culture though she is by no means the last and only creator i follow on that, and hazelyt with their AMAZING creepypasta retrospective I cannot recommend more. If you like horror, but not necessarily campy horror, check out the yt channel nana825763. They made the famous username666 but made this absolutely insane short film called "my house walkthrough" that is a must see for those who like horror that allows you to dissect it moment to moment but isn't very long. Entirely practical effects, I cannot stress how much this formed a huge portion of my standards for scary stuff that doesn't rely on jumpscares, but pure artistry. They literally destroyed this house over time to get each take for the movie so it is WILD to imagine how they did it (the behind the scenes is also amazing).
- Creature
P.s.: I'm so glad you liked Frankenhooker! Definitely one of those sleeper hits that you can tell inspired some of LF, along with things like Re-Animator and Weird Science, Death Becomes Her too (which has some WILD old effects). But I also see the Heathers and Edward Scissorhands comparisons. Not sure if you're a Heathers fan?
i do like heathers quite a bit! and i love edward scissorhands! all the movies you mentioned there i’ve seen more than once and i like ‘em a lot! there’s a thing i’ve seen around more than once about how if lisa frankenstein the movie was actually made in the 80’s, we’d be played by johnny depp and winona ryder, which i do kinda agree with-
thank you for the recommendations too!!!! i cannot wait to check out “my house walkthrough”! it sounds so so so cool, omg. for your little description, it reminds me of, like, wham city comedy’s projects “unedited footage of a bear” and “this house has people in it”? both of which i absolutely LOVED
plus i’m a sucker for good practical effects? i love when you can watch an effect and see viscerally how real it is, because something is actually happening on set? even if it isn’t “perfect,” at least it’s real, ya know?
it’s the same principle as my fascination with theme park engineering? cause a lot of those places have to conceal the actual inner workings of things to maintain illusion, but they’re all real and practical and i think it’s so fun to try and figure out every bit of engineering that went into how the effects work? it’s like a puzzle, i guess
real, physical special effects are just so so cool

A AI imagines the children of iconic couples (real or fictional) SOURCE: @creapills.com AI: @Midjourney ARTIST: @Jérémy_Pomeroy Whether they were together in real life or only on screen, certain couples are simply emblematic, like the one formed by Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt or even Chandler and Monica in the series Friends. Artistic director Jérémy Pomeroy then had the idea of imagining what the children of these unforgettable couples would look like using artificial intelligence. Since his beginnings, the creative from Australia and founder of the agency Total Marketing Australia has often featured celebrities in his works. In his latest project entitled “Celebrity What If?”, he questioned image generators like Midjourney, capable of creating visual content based solely on textual queries. With the help of Photoshop software, he then retouched the images so that the resemblances and the quality of the renderings were as accurate as possible. Whether it's couples who are now separated like Johnny Depp and Winona Rider or Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake or simply cult cinema romances like that of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in Never Forget or of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic, all form adorable families where the children undeniably bear a strong resemblance to their parents. We let you discover below this series of original images created by Jérémy Pomeroy which obviously quickly became viral on the networks. Eve’s Coven
Here are the vampires I mentioned earlier, along with updated bios for some old ones. A lot of stuff is WIP so keep that in mind:
Allen Lecarde: A drifter vampire and hopeless romantic, he fell in love with Rika Amano and turned her without her consent, ruining their blossoming relationship. Miserable and remorseful, he wandered about the city until Eve’s coven took him in. His power is WIP.
Amon: The oldest and most powerful vampire and the leader of the coven. Eve calls him a close personal friend, and he has been alive for thousands of years. Unbeknownst to all, he is also the father of Nadia, Dracula’s adopted daughter. He is an extremely powerful wizard and has the incredible power to negate natural laws, cancelling out things such as gravity or momentum or density... or increasing/kickstarting them if he sees fit.
Bartholemew Comstock: A pilgrim from the 17th century, he wandered off from his colony and nearly died in the wilderness, finding salvation in Eve, who claimed to be an angel… she just left out the “fallen” part. Miserable upon learning he was a vampire and deeming himself an affront to God, he went into hiding for years, eventually coming to believe that there was little meaning to his actions if he was damned to Hell. He begin to strike down and feed off those he viewed as sinners, all the while bemoaning his miserable lot in life and fearing retribution from God.
Beatrix Cullen: A black widow type serial killer who loves to carve up her victims with a chainsaw. She is an incredibly skilled seamstress, and utilizes this in conjunction with her power, which allows her to give life to the lifeless, essentially allowing her to create golems without use of spells or scrolls. She has a very special project lined up utilizing her seven favorite husbands, but she’s looking for just the right head...
Cyrus Lovelace: A former slave owner, Confederacy member, and all-around unpleasant person who captured slaves and auctioned them off to vampires as cattle. He was the one who purchased Dahlia from her parents for her infractions and had rather untoward plans for her before Dracula broke up his operation. He has the power to hypnotize people with his voice.
Dallas Ryder: A white cowboy from the late 1800s, he was hunted relentlessly for the crime of loving a black man. He dedicated much of his time to roaming the South and slaughtering any Klansmen he found without mercy. He was eventually captured and nearly lynched, but he was rescued by Amon. He has the power to control the trajectory of any projectiles he releases as long as they remain within his eyesight, be it bullets from his gun or a paper airplane. The efficiency of the projectiles is also increased.
Dee Comporre, Giorgio Nero, & Mr. Viticcio: Three members of Cosa Nostra who once worked to enforce the will of an extremely powerful criminal in the 1920s. Giorgio is their leader, and has the power of magnetism, capable of feats similar to Magneto from X-Men; Dee is incredibly violent, paits her face up like a skull, and has the ability to secrete corrosive acid; Mr. Viticcio wears a coat, hat, sunglasses, and has a heavily bandaged face, and has the ability to stretch his limbs out like rubber. It is unknown if their names are real or aliases.
Elizabeth Bathory: The Blood Countess herself. After evading death in the 1600s thanks to Eve, she became a loyal follower of the demon, and was recruited into the Order of the 1800s. Dracula and Rasputin managed to defeat her and supposedly kill her, but Bathory is notoriously hard to slay. True to her infamous reputation, she tends to “Feed” by bathing in the blood of her victims.
Elvis Chavez: A big fan of Elvis growing up in the 60s and 70s, Elvis wished to someday be like the impersonators he saw at his father’s bar. He got his wish in the 80s when he went to Vegas, but was often ridiculed by his peers for portraying the chunkier Elvis of his later life due to his weight. He became a vampire mostly out of spite for those people, hoping to outlive the even as he indulged in gluttonous behavior. He is absolutely unashamed of his gut and kept his chubbiness even after he was turned. Power is WIP.
Flanagan & Tantomile: A pair of psychic vampire twins.
Jack Fairchild: Jack the Ripper himself. He has the power to travel through shadows. He is the most hated and feared member of the coven, and he has committed nearly every atrocity you can imagine, gleefully. He views himself as above laws and morality. He was once a student of Dracula, and the lover of Rose Milliner, but was swayed to join Eve and slaughter his peers at Dracula’s school. After Rose rejected him, he went on to become the cannibalistic, immoral spree killer he is known as today.
Kane Dødsstreik: A Nordic warlord. He has a quiet intensity and is in general given a fair amount of respect. He stands at 6′5″ tall. He has the power to use his voice as a weapon (a la Black Bolt); he tends to speak softly and infrequently, though this is less because of his power - which he has complete control over - and more because he finds most of his fellow coven mates unworthy of his words.
Kristoph Hollenfeuer: A former Nazi who commanded a secret paranormal investigation branch known as Enigma. He has the power to generate tracking bombs from his hands.
Michelle Kitt: Once a notorious cat burglar in the 50s alongside her husband, she would steal from the rich and give to the less fortunate (though she would still keep some for herself). After eventually settling down, enemies she’d made broke into her home, killed her husband and daughter, and left her face cut up and scarred heavily, as well as costing her an eye. She has the ability to ignore the rules of sacred hospitality, allowing her to enter buildings uninvited at the cost of her pronounced combat skills being weakened, as well as the power to move silently.
Mickey Harrelson: A former hitman and one of the new Order. His power is WIP.
Nestor Sokolov: A lost cosmonaut, whose supposed death was covered up by the Soviet Union after he burned on reentry. While he did suffer severe burns, he managed to survive, and was saved from death by Amon. He often still wears a modified space suit to hide his face. He has the power to phase through solid objects.
Pierre Labeau: A man hailing from Louisiana, he was born with a disfigured nose that made his upper class mother feel ashamed. She locked him in the attic, his only friends and interests being the various spiders therein; eventually, his mother even cut his nose off, something he would return to her in kind before killing her. He began to kill people like her, snobbish upper class twits, cutting off their noses and slitting their throats. He learned of the phrase “cut off her nose to spite her face” and decided to dub himself Spider Face after the mondegreen one could discern from the phrase. He was eventually caught in the act and driven into the bayou where he supposedly died, though Amon in truth allowed him to join Eve’s coven. His love of arachnids caused him to gain their powers, making him much like Spider-Man, as well as giving him incredibly virulent venom. While he certainly isn’t totally wicked, he also revels in being something of an area boogeyman and proudly proclaims himself a villain any chance he gets.
Piper Sanchez – One of the new Order. Formerly a young, mute homeless man. Loves rock music and has a guitar. Has the power to control and empower rats, which he can do with his music.
Rhapsody Von Braun: Hailing from the early 60s, Rhapsody was an artist who had her career derailed by workplace sexism, which led to a car accident that permanently damaged her leg and led to her becoming a drug addict. She spends a lot of her time sleeping, and walks with a cane even as a vampire. She’s rather sweet and pleasant, though she is a bit scatterbrained. Her power is to make drawings she draws come to life.
Ryo Amano: The elder son of the Amano family and a criminal mastermind, for years he served alongside Jemima Mathers, regulating crime in the city and ensuring his work would go unhindered. However, his cruel past caught up to him: when it was revealed he had his sister violently beaten and kicked out of the family, and that he had driven his own mother to suicide by making her blame herself for her daughter’s disappearance, he had to go into hiding. Eve soon discovered him, and his lineage was revealed to him - his father was Amadeus Zephyri, which made him a dhampyr. Granted vampirism, he soon found himself in possession of a powerful new skill. Where his father could stop time, he could essentially utilize a localized acceleration of time, causing negative effects to rapidly occur, such as allowing a decrepit pillar to crumble or to cause a knife wound to fester and kill the victim immediately.
Sawney Bean: The infamous Scottish cannibal of legend, transformed into a vampire by Eve as he was about to die in his sealed-in cavern alongside the remains of his family. He eventually decided to give in to the ultimate vampire taboo and consume another vampire; finding he liked the taste, he continued to eat other vampires who crossed him, eventually twisting and transforming into a terrifying monster with metal teeth and claws that stood well over seven feet tall. He rarely ventures out from his hideaway unless called by his masters.
Walter Sherman: A good, kindhearted man who ever since the 1910s always looked to the future and was excited for progress. After his wife and two children died in a freak accident, he attempted suicide, but was turned into a vampire instead. Power Is WIP.
Wayne Nicol: A former circus clown. He has the ability to enter people’s minds and utilize their most powerful fears against them.

O Sexto Sentido Quem, fã de cinema, nunca ouviu a frase “I see dead people”?
A produção usa a canção clássica Smoke Gets In Your Eyes para criar o clima certo.

A woman like her shouldn’t lay her body fold with another man, after facing formidable from one promised to eternity. You scoffed at her attempt, generously leading a stranger away from the party with the look of tasting freedom for the first time while you—wish so badly to had granted her that, the taste of sweetness and love, the kind you promised beneath the stars watching down on two friends.
“Maybe you shouldn’t rush into thing,” you equipped, emerald of sea stares at you with such emotions that you fear for you dampening heart, “Nicole, think about it.”
Annoyance that once perceive as a reaction from her husband’s heavy bearing, now faces you—holding an intensity that you wish so badly for her to know and understand, he could not show a tint of crimson on her cheeks by the gentle of hands interlace. He wouldn’t know where to begin or where she ends, not a meek of compliance to her every need.
“It’s my choice,” she uttered with such stance of a woman facing an ambush of emotions drawn from a failed marriage.
You wished to have said those words: choose me, please, I’m right here, please see me, I have love you from when I first saw you, please, I’m right here.
Those words hit repeatedly against your chest, begging for a route of escape from your aching heart. It strikes a pain in your head and you excused it as a headache from the loud music trespassing the silence in your ears. An easy escape from your own fear. A cowardly act that drowned your own heart.
Everything that left you watching her walk away, the suit that hugged her body beautifully would now drop on the floor of some other man, her hair would be touched by another, and you would watch from afar as she falls again—but never for the sake of your heart.

Oh godddd nicole makes me so freaking horny 😣
Imagine being her cute housewife and when she has particularly stressful days at work she comes home to find you cooking dinner but immediately drags you to the bedroom to let out some steam and roughly fuck you with her strap, she doesn't even takes the time to undress the two of you, just pulls down her pants a bit and moves your underwear to the side 🥴 I feel like she'd mainly be gentle but there are times where she's a bit more rough
BONUS: nicole ryder is more possessive than tasha bear. meaning to say in everything you do, she gets VERY possessive that she’d fuck your mouth with her strap
this is so hot by the way my pussy is shaking

WARNING: The following contains heavy semantics. This is the equivalent of letterboxd users breaking down their dumb rating systems. OK, not as bad, but still! You have been warned!
I’m starting a new (and final) iteration of something I’ve done my whole life. A single list of my 50 Favorite Actors, covering the full scope of era and gender. I’ll make a new one from scratch each year as a kind of record. 50 doesn’t leave too much room for sudden or drastic evolution, but the long game is what I’m playing at.
All of my old lists (of any kind) used to be ranked. Frankly, fuck that. I’m all for ranking within narrow frameworks (Top Ten By Year, etc) but general lists like favorite actors and movies? Why do it? Numbers make the whole thing an arbitrary assessment, isolating the actors and films into a misguided hierarchy that doesn’t add any insight or clarity. Lists and rankings are such an oversaturated aspect of culture content as it is, and I’d like to avoid this feeling like just another ranking. The collective group is the thing, the totality of taste, interest, and meaning. Keeping this a singular entity (with one or two caveats) preserves this as a personal journal entry of sorts, a snapshot and not the end-all be-all. It’s a way of capturing my taste in film and the people in it. I’ve put a star next to my ten favorites, and I’ve got a separate long list of people I considered but ultimately didn’t add, and that’s the extent of it.
Growing up, I made favorite actor lists obsessively. When I was around six or seven I would play ‘School’. I was the teacher. My students? The likes of Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Danny DeVito, and John Travolta. I had pages and pages of any actor whose name I knew (the entire casts of Angels in the Outfield and Addams Family Values were represented). I took very careful attendance to make sure everyone was present, calling out each name and imagining that yes, they were there. Each actor received a little check in their row of squares (I made sure I had the checkered graph paper to keep everything orderly and precise).
age 11
Tumblr media
all of these were made at age 11
Then there were the dark days, the days when tween Katie made lists like Top Ten ‘Cutie-Patootie’ Actors (a reference to the Rosie O’Donnell Show, yes, the Rosie O’Donnell Show, seen above). As you can see, the kid from Dennis the Menace topped that one. I also had my constantly revised Top Ten Favorite Actors & Actresses. Five actors from the lists pictured above are also on this current one: Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Winona Ryder, John Travolta, and Michelle Pfeiffer. They were major icons for me then, and they remain so now, 20 years after the fact. They are forever favorites.
Tumblr media
the four quadrants, from 2006 (age 18)
What followed were continuously updated versions of this, covering half my lifetime: Top Blank (at varying points it was 20, 30, and 50) Modern Actors, Modern Actresses, Classic Actors, and Classic Actresses (‘Classic’ accounted for the Hollywood studio era). They were always divided into those four quadrants. I can timestamp the years by who was on them. Simon Pegg at the top? Must be 2008. Katee Sackhoff near the top? I must have been watching “Battlestar Galactica” then. You can find the 2012 versions on this site: here and here.
These categories created considerable grey area, swaths of actors that never really fit comfortably in their group. Those who either featured in films from both eras (Jack Lemmon) or were technically of the ‘Modern’ era but with careers that didn’t really transition into the current (Faye Dunaway). And those ‘Modern’ lists were always much more about the now. I never made room for these actors who qualified as ‘Modern’ but who could be pinpointed to the past. I wanted to feature the up-and-coming, people whose careers I was excited about now! Filmographies I could follow along with as they progressed.
This factor, which meant so much to me then, means nothing re: this new list. For one, I don’t follow current stuff to the degree I used to. 21st century film is less interesting to me (current TV far less so). But I’m really fond of a lot of actors working today, from relative newcomers to tried-and-true character actors to cemented A-listers. The group there was no room for, not by a long shot, were the relative newcomers. I’m an easy lay when it comes to loving actors. But with over a century of performers to choose from, it doesn’t leave much room for the young “oooh I love him/her/them, I can’t wait to see what they do next” ones.
But for the record, the fresher (2010 to present) faces that I’m most invested in are Adam Driver, Elizabeth Debicki, Tom Hardy, Lakeith Stanfield, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Plemons, Nicholas Hoult, and Jonah Hill (whose career trajectory I’m endlessly intrigued by, a man funnier than most of his peers, with the unstable depths of a Chris Penn, whose hyper-sensitivity about being taken seriously and joining the ranks of the prestigious show up on the screen).
The old lists, especially the 50-each ones that totaled to 200 actors, were actually more challenging than this list. Because with so much room, you’re fooled into thinking everyone can be represented. But they can’t; even those lists fill up quick. And now, with just 50 total, it gets down to essentials. There are the favorites, and then the ones who matter most. Oh, I love them? Cool, next! Oh, I love them a lot? Cool, next! Omgtheyaresoamazing? Cool. Next!
There are so many actors whose performances I consistently love or enjoy, that I always look forward to seeing and am often moved by. But there’s a difference between actors who frequently deliver great work, and actors who make something inherently more just by being there, that make me sit up in my seat because what they give either draws out extra engagement from me or they are so distinctive a presence that the fabric of the film/show is thereby altered. But none of this exists without the secret ingredient: that chemical thing that just draws you to one person’s talent and onscreen life more than another.
Tumblr media
The factors are endless. Above is my next tier of favorites, the ones that I didn’t go with but thought about and in some cases agonized (yes, agonized) over whether to include or not.
What do you do when a specific stretch of someone’s work means more to you than most people’s entire careers? Most don’t make it (Patty Duke, Diane Lane, Juliette Lewis, Marlon Brando, etc) But a few do: pre-Dick Tracy Warren Beatty, Eric Roberts in the 1980’s, and Sandy Dennis in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
What do you do with the actors who are still alive but not working regularly, at all, or at the same caliber they used to? Most don’t make it (Nancy Allen, Tim Curry, Kathleen Turner, Fairuza Balk, Sheryl Lee, etc). But a few do: Jim Carrey, Shelley Duvall, Theresa Russell (a spot that could have been occupied by many that mean just as much to me, but I went with Theresa this time because it felt right), Eric Roberts, and John Travolta.
What do you do with the actors who mean a lot to you but whose careers were so brief that it’s hard to justify adding them over others? Unfortunately, almost all of those actors didn’t make it (Linda Manz, Paula Sheppard, Laird Cregar, Zoe Lund, James Dean, Pamela Franklin, etc). One does: Louise Brooks.
What do you do about the actors you love watching more than most but whose work you aren’t familiar enough with yet? None of them make it (Natasha Lyonne, Yaphet Kotto, Silvana Mangano, Helmut Berger, Dagmar Lassander, Tuesday Weld, etc). There are plenty of films from the 50 I’ve yet to see, but I’ve at least seen enough.
Then there are all the others, the really tough ones. I think about James Gandolfini more and more as the years go by. Harvey Keitel’s performances resonate a lot more as I get older (those defiant eyes, I can often feel him). I can’t believe I didn’t make room for Christina Ricci. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the defining comedienne of my lifetime. There is only one Carol Kane, Donald Sutherland, Nicolas Cage, Joan Cusack, Parker Posey, Lily Tomlin, Crispin Glover. I get distinct pleasures from watching each of them. Some of my favorite immortals are Marlene Dietrich, Alain Delon, Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Buster Keaton, Cate Blanchett. I’m pretty sure I talk about Jude Law all the time. I will, and have, watched Jean-Claude Van Damme in anything I can find. In recent months I’ve rewatched a lot of key Samuel L. Jackson performances (Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Black Snake Moan, Django Unchained), and was newly reminded that he is one of our most compelling living actors. His pervasive and phoned-in presence in every imaginable franchise had led me to forget that. I’ve been hooked on Gene Wilder, Charles Laughton, Eva Green, Cillian Murphy, and still am. It goes on and on and on.
But this is the challenge of it, and the fun of it. My 50 favorites capture my fascination with stardom and long-range careers with eras & reinventions (ex. Crawford, Cruise, Fonda, Monroe, DiCaprio, Farrell, Taylor), physicality (ex. Chan, Ball, Phoenix, Reeves, Olyphant) & commanding physical presence (ex. Reed, Kidman, De Niro, Mitchum), blue moon charisma (ex. Pfeiffer, Russell, Walbrook, Cagney, Reed, Nicholson), the ones I feel a deep connection to (all of them but especially Carrey, Brooks, & Hoffman) & offbeat god-tier character actors (Dennis, Dourif, Roberts, Black, Duvall) I would take a bullet for.
I start to realize some of the people that aren’t even on this second list: Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet, Robin Williams, Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Gloria Grahame, Katharine Hepburn, Michael Shannon, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Jeanne Moreau, Saorsie Ronan, Brad Pitt, Gena Rowlands, Dirk Bogarde, James Mason, Jeff Bridges, Ethan Hawke, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Catherine O’Hara, Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche, Charlize Theron, Robert Redford, Julie Christie, Michael C. Hall, Michael Caine, Malcolm McDowell, John Hurt, Paul Newman, Anjelica Huston, Sigourney Weaver (every time I watch her in something I think about how much I love her. Her work in Alien 3 means a lot to me), Elliot Gould, etc etc etc. Hell, Peter Mullan is the only person on either list who appears in any Harry Potter film, and that franchise employed basically every British actor you can think of. Most of these actors have been on other lists in the past. Some you’d always be guaranteed to find there (Binoche, Deneuve, etc). As I type this I am realize I forgot Michael Stuhlbarg and John Hawkes in that second group. At the end of the day it just becomes about knowing who there was never any question about, and going with your gut on the rest.
But these 50 (ok, 52, I cheated, the truth is out!), the ones I ultimately chose, are the actors whose work collectively means more than the rest, my ultimate favorites: the ones I can lose myself in, and then find myself in. Who are yours?

Shadows At Dawn Reprint Goes Live
Tumblr media
Every world starts with a simple idea.
The Tales Of The Frontier universe began in 2016 with a short story called Shadows At Dawn about two cowboys roaming a dark fantasy landscape.
The publisher who took a chance on this short story was Aurelia Leo and I wanted to thank them again for choosing to republish the story in a new anthology.
Uchronia: An Anthology Of Alternate Histories & Alternative Worlds is a collection of weird and wonderful stories from writers who think differently and have the balls to put themselves out there (my blurb)
The official blurb is:
Uchronia: An Anthology of Alternate Histories & Alternate Worlds features twenty cosmic, uncanny, and macabre fantasy and science fiction stories.
A marine navigates close quarters in his wheelchair and the threat of joblessness due to mechanical men. Gremlins battle a bounty huntress in the Weird Wild West. When the Soviet Union invades Mexico, a U.S.-Mexico war veteran rallies Samalayuca refinery workers to fight back. Onboard the Current of Eagles, a disabled Native-American pilot confronts prejudice and radio warfare. You are a lone radio jockey after the apocalypse.
Curated by award-winning editor Zelda Knight, this collection of reprints will transport readers to diverse retrofutures and realms beyond their imagination.

There’s a really great Carl Sagan quote where he says, “Anything else you’re interested in is not going to happen if you can’t breath the air, or drink the water.  Don’t sit this one out. Do something.”  Well, the night Trump got elected president of the USA, my very first thought was, we just threw a match to the environment.  Emissions regulations and land conservation were already an uphill battle with a progressive in the White House, but you add someone like Trump, and it’s just about the worst I could imagine it being.
And because there’s only one planet, I felt compelled to do something. I don’t want to die knowing I stood by and did nothing as ignorant politicians destroyed our home.  So I decided to make a musical album called Plant Facts.  Not having a musical bone in my body, I asked a group of amazing musicians to contribute a synth-driven, Mort Garson-styled song with the intention of adding over it a David Attenborough inspired narration colorfully delivering some of the plant world’s most fascinating and inspiring facts. Thus: Plant Facts.
Because whether some people like it or not, Facts will always matter.
It’s for sale at plantfacts.bandcamp.com and 100% profits are being donated to the Sierra Club to help them carry on the fight for clean air, clean water, and the preservation of our land.
This is a time for activism, and I sincerely hope you find your cause and go to bat for it. There is a lot in this world to fight for.
1 million thank you to Sage Price for producing this album with me, Nicole Gelb Dugat for her research and writing the plant facts, and Mark Yaeger, Jeff Brodski, Casey Swoyer, Sasami Ashworth, YACHT, Mirah, and Ryder Bach for creating such inspiring and beautiful music.
On a lighthearted note: it’s the perfect album to go for a walk to, or drive to, or work to, or sit in a park to
plantfacts.bandcamp.com
ps: video is taken from a documentary Adi Goodrich and I made about LA in 2012.
