As a side note, I’m on episode 2 of Link Click season 2 so I don’t know everything that happens (but I do know One Thing), but what fascinates me is that on the posts I’ve seen about Link Click is passing jokes and remarks about which characters are haunting the narrative/ a protagonist but the character that haunts it the most is Emma.

Her death and Cheng Xiaoshi’s unintentional hand in it set off the entire plot, and kept returning to the surface even when Lu Guang tried to hide the truth of her fate from Cheng Xiaoshi. She’s the one Cheng Xiaoshi can’t stop worrying about, going so so far at the expense of his own well-being and safety just to try to save her and never, ever being able to. Her manner of death—falling, both deliberate and completely against her will—is the motif that the characters and the narrative can’t escape, that we the audience can’t escape in each season’s opening sequence. Emma is even actually present in s2’s opening—the only one character who isn’t technically a major active player in the show. And each time, Cheng Xiaoshi is falling, too.

As JD Salinger once put it, for some kind of terrible, terrible fall.

i've heard from umineko fans before that everyone who reads it takes something different away from it -- from its various themes, everyone has that one theme that reaches them the most.

i'm playing episode 4 right now, so this might change in the future, but for me so far it's definitely gotta be love. i don't know if it's just because of how i'm interpreting it personally, or if it's really the main theme, but it feels like the most predominant one...

i can't wait to see how it keeps evolving but so far, the different ideas of love and how they affect a person's life, as well as the idea that love is the "main element" that makes someone human is just so beautiful and, yes, humane, to me. you see a lot of media these days exploring the concept of love, and yet this vn from 2007 seems to get it better than most modern media.
