Hey professor peach, what’s your opinion on that even other mewtwo turn to fusions in your universe?
Tumblr media
Peach: Oh! It’s the genetic instability of our world. Clearly nonfused twos can survive my world just fine, but that’s because their genetic makeup has evolved to make sure they survive!
Tumblr media
Peach: Other twos hop into the world, they’re genetic makeup is HIGHLY unstable crossing universe’s, and thus they need to adjust to make sure they still stay alive. So they’re body adapts when crossing,
Peach: It’s a painless process if they jump right, there are times when jumping improperly it’ll knock them out from the pain, but it’s temporary and isn’t damaging to the build. It’s like getting slapped without the bruising,

i would make two guesses to why ATLA animals are still referred to as turtleducks and what not; one, this is a translation convention and they actually DO have in universe names that don't take account for being fusions. two, they weren't ALWAYS fused animals! Possibly within recordecd history something happened to fuse many unrelated animal species together, so the terms for those pre fusion animals still exist, but a nonfused animal is noteworthy enough to draw commentary
Yeah it’s definitely at least partially a fourth wall translation kind of thing, the idea that they haven’t always been fused is really interesting though! There’s some really cool worldbuilding that can be done with that

(potential) gem OC comic script
Moonstone (@spadesart ‘s) and Mother of Pearl (mine)
Panel 1: (moonstone is sitting in a thrown like chair, his pearl on his shoulder, as a fusion walks in. He looks at her as if he is displeased.)
Moonstone: What do you have to say for yourself?
Panel 2: (MoP stares at him, blushing a little. AKA MoP.exe stopped working)
Panel 3: (MoP.exe: internal dialogue)
Green: AAAAAAHHHHHHH Aqua: HE’S HOT!! WHAT DO WE DO?? WHAT DO WE SAY?! White(not that one): WELL WE HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING! COMPLIMENT HIM!
Panel 4: (MoP.exe: speak words)
MoP: You berry bootiful.
Panel 5: (MoP realizes what she said and her eyes widen and face flush)
Panel 6: (Moonstone and his pearl look like they’re trying not to laugh and failing)
MoP: Very Beautiful!! I mean you’re pretty and tall and gorgeous and-

Rainbow Obsidian’s themes/voice claim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diW6jXhLE0E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPIhUaONiLU
Size
24′
Build
Curvaceous.
Skin
Dark grey.
Eyes
Black sclera with Blue/Pink/Yellow gradient irises.
Gem
Circular cut Rainbow Obsidian in stomach.
Hair
Short styled pink/blue/yellow dreadlocks.
Outfit
Homeworld loyal. White/black Crop top with cape. Black forearm sleeves. White gloves with Pink/White/Blue/Yellow segmented fingers. White shin covers. Black "boots".
Personality
Self assured. Vain. Materialistic. Rainbow Obsidians are very old and very tough gemstones. Their natural palette lends them favor with their Diamonds, allowing them to live lives of luxury on Homeworld occupied planets. Rainbow indulges in the life of vice, mainly music, dancing, and pleasure, often keeping a harem of Pearls and other entertainment gems with her. With her dance club, Rainbow offers a place for gems to let loose, provided they don't fuse in her club. Those who do are taken care of quite quickly by Rainbow's own hand and never seen again.
Weapon
Rainbow formed without upper arms, giving her forearms and hands near limitless range and dexterity. Able to extend her reach to degrees no one quite knows yet, she is extremely skilled in close quarters and long ranged hand to hand combat.
Features
Aforementioned extended range for forearms/hands.

One of my complaints about SU in Systemic Bad Writing was that no one can say that this show is pro nonbinary until it had a human nonfusion nonbinary person.
Unless you consider SUF to be another series (asshole), we must admit that the day has come. Steven Universe has been the first animated kid show (that I'm aware of) to do the bare minimum in terms of positive nb representation.
Congratulations Crewniverse! Here's your award.

"wouldnt izuku + ashido make rainbow quartz?" actually thats. a good question. WOULD they? given that canon rose quartz... wasn't one? i think fusions pick their own names too like smoky did so even then you gotta wonder. if pearl fused with ruby would they make another rhodonite or call themself something different? I think one of the crewniverse said there were nonfusion versions of those gems out there too, so ???
I KNOW IM SOHUUUUUUUUUU

"So." Garnet actually looks curious. "How did you guess a Ruby and a Sapphire would make a Garnet? I mean, both Ruby and Sapphire have wondered themselves, and, I've speculated based on what they both know on nonfusion Garnets, but, still, I want to know how you came up with it."
“There was no real guess work involved. Just scientific deduction.” Calcite gave a small shrug, thinking that it should have been obvious what kind of method she used. Still playing nice could be to her advantage for the moment so she wasn’t too openly irritated. “Between eyewitness accounts and security footage of the ball you helped ruin, I was able to figure that you were a Garnet from your appearance being comparable to others of that cut and that ruled you out of being the Opal. That said there are no Garnets exactly like you....yet.”
Thanks to the marvels of the gemological sciences, it wouldn’t be impossible for her to artificially create a gem usually only seen as a fusion. It was just going to take some time and research.

What sort of fabric would you recommend for a stiff bonnet? I was thinking of using a base of some sort to cover. Thanks! (I love your blog)
Tumblr media
If you’re looking for the ye olde traditional and proper fabric for the job, you’re looking for buckram. It’s called Unicorn Buckram at Joann, and no, I don’t know why, and it’s in the utility fabric deprartmen. You can find it made by Pellon as Pellon 375/Pellon Buckram. The main traditional draw of using buckram for millinery purposes is that you can wet it, pull it over a hat block, and it’ll retain its shape when it’s dry. I don’t know if pellon or unicorn buckram can hold up to that, though, but it doesn’t sound like you’d really need that. Buckram was also traditionally made out of horse hair, but we use cotton for most modern stuff. Sometimes this has to be supported with millinery wire or plastic boning like Dritz Featherweight at the brim, because it’s not stiff to the level of, say, cardstock.
If you’re interested in using something washable, you can try out fusing Pellon Decor-Bond to your fabric, which is a pretty darn heavyweight interfacing. It’s a nonwoven interfacing, which means it won’t stand up to weeks of being washed twice a day, but that’s not a big problem for non-theatrical people.
If you need what’s effectively cardboard that you can wash, you’ll want to check out Peltex interfacing, which comes in nonfusible, 1-sided fusible, and 2-sided fusible for your assorted needs. This stuff’s stiffer, but that comes at the cost of being thicker.
Here’s a post on some interfacings that I did before. It was written with bags in mind, but it’s got pictures of those interfacings so it might be helpful.
Tumblr media
A lot of people have good luck with taking a big straw sun visor and cutting the brim off (and down), and then covering it in fabric. If you do this, start by tracing where you want to cut it down, then sew over that line on your sewing machine before doing the chopping, or you might find it undo itself.
As for other options, starch can do a whole lot. There’s recipes online that talk about mixing corn starch in water or soaking a potato and straining it out through a sock, but here’s some food for thought:
Tumblr media
This brand of aerosol starch is under $1 at walmart and under $2 at target. It goes on in a really fine mist and has ingredients for preventing burning and caking, and for making sure the starch has a long life. I did a show where every actor was a nun, and we went through like two cans of that. I tried liquid starch (both spray and soak) and mix-it-yourself starches and it seriously out-performs them.
If you like your iron, use a press cloth when starching things. You’ll need to restarch every time you wash your bonnet, but you don’t have to wash headgear too often.
There’s lots of advice on this thread, too.
(dear other ask that I got: I’m not ignoring you, it’s just an elaborate answer and  I haven’t had a chance to make it)
