thinking abt how every spamvil hater ive seen villainizes jevil and victimizes spamton to the moon and back. like their argument against spamvil is ALWAYS, without fail, "it would hurt spamton :(" and then they have nothing to say about jevil or talk abt how jevil would hurt him somehow.

First of all idk where this weirdass villainization of jevil is coming from. People seem to think hes this irredeemable soulless clown who feels nothing and doesnt care abt anyone. Meanwhile, ingame, he literally admits he is lonely and was close to Seam in the past. Yes he needs to learn how to be serious and has a cynical view of the world, but for some reason the fandom doesnt see him as a complex and flawed character. they just decide hes too far gone and would hurt anyone he has a relationship with, including spamton.

And then theres spamton, everyone's favorite innocent angel never did anything wrong bbg apparently!! The fandom doesnt treat spamton anything like they do Jevil. They actually want good things for him, a better future, and feel sorry for him. That's not a bad thing, I feel the same, but these same people will ignore all his flaws and how literally evil he was in the snowgrave route. Spamton is not a good person. I thought this was explicitly clear in the game, but apparently bc he has sad lore spoonfed to the audience this is ignored.

In regards to Jevil, Spamton is extremely bitter and jealous of him. The only things spamton himself has said about jevil is that he wishes to "surpass" him, and that he lost to jevil's games in the past. He even admits he cheated in many of these games. Spamton is not a trustworthy person. if you havent noticed his character is literally based on scam emails. Spamton is just jealous of Jevil's happiness despite the situation theyre both in, which is understandable in a way. Still, it doesnt mean spamton is in the right for being bitter and resentful. There's no real evidence Jevil has actively hurt spamton in any way, esp not on purpose. He literally just beat him at games and is way happier than he is and he's angry about it.

People consume all this shit at SURFACE LEVEL- reminder that this is an unfinished game MADE TO BE ANALYZED- and dont look any deeper into these very complex and interesting characters. All these spamvil haters assume Jevil is just irredeemable and too far gone and find spamtons backstory depressing but dont think about what these two NEED to heal from their experiences. Having gone through similar shit, they're really the only people who could understand each other to such an extent. They both need to let their guard down and listen to each other because they can offer each other a different point of view on a similar situation, which is what the both of them NEED more than anything. Yes it would take a lot of time; these are very flawed people. But you cant just. leave them where they are right now and expect either of them to heal completely on their own. Being alone is the LAST thing either of them needs. Jevil literally admits to being lonely and spamton ACTIVELY gets worse the longer he is alone. Yes he has trust issues, but he needs to be able to open up if he ever wants to get better.

Theres also the argument of "spamton is afraid of clowns" which isnt valid anyway because i just got done explaining how even if hes afraid of opening up and being close to people, spamton NEEDS it if he wants any chance at getting better. Sometimes you have to face your fears to make any progress. Plus spamton himself has never shown any sign of fearing jevil. He's only ever regarded him with bitterness and jealousy.

sometimes i draw pictures with 2 BIGs together without any explanation. i tend to forget that people cant read my mind and know the context so its probably confusing lol...

it was a ship born entirely out of my delusions... i was thinking 'wow because of the way i draw BIG, whenever he open his eyes he feels like an entirely different person'

and then for some reasons i badly wanted to see them touching each others' boobs think ot will be cool if they interact with each other...

this ship also happened because i kind of wanting to see spamton being genuinely happy and loved in his BIG era. like having a relationship where he has someone whos truly his 'equal' where the other supporting him no matter what kind of antics hes up to and he does the same...

like kris interacting with BIG is nice and i love it but it is still time travelling shenanigans... they are not supposed to be there at that time, plus it is a completely different dynamic

and i am not that interested in other ships like sw@tch//ton, sp@m//vil... either (i habe no problem w these ships and have drawn art for some). and these ships do not meet the criteria of 'spamton being loved' because in my interpretation, nobody loved spamton until he meet kris. people only hang out with him just because he is rich, famous or to manipupate him (the man on the phone). like they only tolerate his presence for their own gain.

so after some delulu i created an AU where BIG is splitted into a pair of twins that love each other. a selfcest AU disguised as twincest... they are genuinely happy and content with the others presence, and they will ride or die together til the very end

I tried saving this ask I got about what “neo” is in the context of deltarune (and undertale) but I think something happened to it as I tried saving it in my drafts to post later, so I’m just gonna paraphrase what I tried saying in it before I forget my train of thought. Sorry I lost your ask, anon!

Basically the ask said there was a theory floating around somewhere that said that neo standed for “negative emotion overload” and that the reason Mettaton neo is so easy to defeat is that he still has a lot of hope for the underground and for the player despite everything, so he doesn’t hold a lot of negativity while in his neo form

In contrast, Spamton is much more bitter and upset about his failures and is more spiteful when it comes to wanting things compared to Mettaton, hence why he’s actually a very formidable opponent in his neo form, as opposed to Mettaton who dies in one hit no matter what.

I wasn’t sure how much I believed anon’s theory, but going along with it for a moment, I think the reason why Spamton neo eventually fails to be all-powerful is not only because of his strings, but if we’re following the idea that the neo form needs a lot of negative emotions to be powerful, Spamton still has a lot of hope and belief put into wanting to be big again

Another big positive influence for Spamton are his hopes that the neo body and its “lightner hopes and dreams” (assuming that when Swatch said that they meant that the hopes and dreams Mettaton poured into his creation of neo are actually tangible to darkners) will give him the power to help him achieve his own dreams of freedom and success.

Spamton is cynical, yes, moreso than most characters we’ve met so far in deltarune, but at the same time he also has a lot of hope, almost to an unreasonable degree, and he holds on to some hope of “becoming your (Kris’s) strength” even when defeated

Another secret boss who mentions “neo” is Jevil, and depending on how you see him, he could either be the perfect candidate for going neo, or the worst. On one hand, he’s completely immersed in his beliefs that nothing matters in the darkner world, which is a very dark and negative philosophy. This could make Jevil extremely powerful if he ever went neo.

But on the other hand, Jevil seems to take great delight in his “dark” beliefs, and unlike Spamton his happiness seems to be genuine most of the time and not feigned, so Jevil might be happy enough that becoming neo wouldn’t do anything. It’s also arguable whether Jevil would even want to become neo, because even if he was fully capable of whatever “becoming neo” means or requires, I’m not sure if he’d think it’d matter enough to do so

Seam, however, is who I think a perfect neo candidate is. They have totally given up hope on everything across the board, unlike Spamton, who still hopes the lightners can win despite his own inability to help more than a puppet can, and Seam also isn’t having fun with their bleak situation like Jevil is, so they definitely seem to be in a very negative mindset.

Seam seems to know a lot about shadow crystals, and of secret bosses (other than Jevil, who they were arguably friends with), so maybe they know about whatever “neo” is too. Maybe if you kill all enemies like in snowgrave, after aquiring the six shadow crystals from the previous secret bosses Seam goes neo and becomes the seventh secret boss, having lost all faith in the world and in you as the player to better things.

Or maybe this happens no matter what you do, so even in a normal route where you show everyone mercy and a bunch of recruits come to your town, Seam will start to gain hope again, but this still won’t be enough hope to stop their transformation. This is really going out on a limb here, but there’s just something mildly unsettling about us giving all the shadow crystals to someone like Seam who seems to know way too much for their own good.

If Seam is indeed a secret final boss, I don’t think they’re up to no good or are secretly evil or anything like that. If anything they’re like Flowey in the sense that if they hurt other people it’s because they’re angry and are lashing out at the world in general.

Flowey mentioned he started doing horrible things just to see what would happen, because he knew he could reset everything and it would be fine after the reset no matter what harm he caused beforehand. This sounds a lot like Jevil’s philosophy.

However, unlike Jevil, Flowey also found that the predictability of the universe also took the surprise out of everything, and finding out that everything was predetermined up to a certain point made him lose the ability to be happy in life, regardless if he did good things or bad.

This reminds me a lot of how Seam currently sees the world in deltarune, and considering Flowey’s next action after realizing this was to plan to destroy the world in order to make a new one with Chara from scratch, it really makes me concerned for Seam and their role in deltarune

Hii ive been lately thinking alot about spamton and how he views any romantic relationships, and dont get me wrong, i do myself like few spamton ships alot, but i think that spamton probably never had an actual experience with any romantic feelings in canon, or will in near future

Back in his addison and big shot days, he probably was too busy calculating, selling, and speaking to his phone friend to actually ever consider liking anyone, like yeah probably few Swatchlings made him go like 😮😮😮😮😮 and he was flirting with ladies (or maybe Even queen) on any types of parties, but in reality i dont think he ever truly thought about anyone in romantic way, yes he did think about being in relationship, but never got Close enough with anyone to actually concider it, because he had other goals to do first

And i dont think current spamton is any better, hes wayyyy too mentally unstable to be in a relationship, the only thing he really cares about at the moment is NEO, and hes way too much detached from reality, he would either have very bad sudden episode and run away from his "loved one" or use them to get to neo. Like i get all the "take spamton home take care of him" fics are made mainly for fluff, but spamton isnt really in his right mind after his downfall, and honestly that would certainly lead to very unhealthy relationship, where one is using another for his own needs and other one is treating him like a child/pet not knowing how to handle him

(But well, theres also post canon possibilities, but we have no idea how story can go and can only form headcanons for that, but if you'd like i would be very happy to write my own interpretation later ^__^)

I would love to hear others take on this idea too because When i first thought about it i was like omg thats actually not a bad idea. And wanted to share it but i was kinda shy lol

I don't know what you're trying to ask? If you have a blog of your own you could post this in the tag, don't worry about being shy, I understand. You wanted my opinion on the idea so I will discuss it.

Just a disclaimer, a lot of this is going to be headcanon on what I believe his life was like in the stages prior to canon. You are free to disagree with my headcanon as it's not correct, only my interpretation.

I think as an Addison he was relatively isolated and lonely (despite being with the other Addisons often...you can be in a friend group and still feel left out, I've been there), and often hammed up his own personality and ego to try to get attention and to stand out. He did develop a sort of insecurity complex as a result. He might have shown some interest/attraction to potential customers, but it never went anywhere beyond that, and his fellow Addisons would always catch their attention before he could anyway.

As a Big Shot, he's incredibly busy and overworked and stressed despite his otherwise luxurious new life, but masked it with unhealthy coping mechanisms, which didn't work well for him at all. He could seem outwardly charismatic and talkative to outsiders, but on the inside he would be struggling severely with himself, just a constant downward spiral until he finally snapped. In terms of relationships, he probably sought after people he thought he could trust his secrets with, namely Swatch if the Q&A is anything to go by. Queen's close proximity and party-going nature probably helped a lot with Spamton's forming of relationships even if it was probably confined to the mansion...Spamton to me feels like the type of guy who wanted to impress Queen as much as possible and show how truly good he is at his job, only later developing feelings for her and doubling down on that. Swatch is a special case, but I think his relationship with Swatchlings was more of mild intimidation that he tried to play off as disinterest/seeing the Swatchlings as, well, underlings.

I do not think it's fair to say he is too "mentally unstable" to be in a relationship...That almost feels insulting to him. I think I remember having a similar opinion before rescinding it because I realized it could be ableist. I think he is not completely detached from reality as this was the case with Jevil, rather I believe he is all too aware of the reality he is in and denies it vehemently so it may come off as being detached from reality in that context.

You are right that Spamton’s current character could lead to a tumultous and unhealthy relationship, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I really do not like the implication you made that it would be like trying to take care of a child or pet, but maybe I am misinterpreting your words. Many fanfictions do portray that sort of relationship which I detest and try to avoid at all costs. “Taking care of” Spamton is like taking care of an adult man with a history of severe mental illness. There are no fluffy cats or chubby babies here. That doesn’t mean fluff isn’t allowed, however. I absolutely love fluff with Spamton, and seriously mentally ill people do deserve respect and love like any other person. It’s just very important for me to make the distinction between this and taking care of a child or pet as it comes off as infantilizing and dehumanizing mental illness.

(Addendum that he is also a fictional character in a fantasy series and you can technically do whatever you want, but to many fans he hits close to home as well, and many mentally ill fans who relate to him probably wouldn’t want to be treated like a child or a pet either. When you are saying he is too mentally unstable to be loved, or that he must be taken care of like a child or pet, it might come off to other people that this is how you feel about mentally ill people, regardless of your intent.)

I apologize if I sound sour tonight, and may have misunderstood anything you said, please do clarify. I would like to hear your post-canon interpretations anyhow, even if I might disagree with them (and we can agree to a civil discussion, yes?)

(btw im using he/it for spamton and they/them for blue. another name for blue is cerulean but im just gonna use blue here)

Spamton and blue always Kinda Liked each other, but they'd always been pretty good friends ever since they met

Blue was always nicer to Spamton than the other Addisons; that's what made Spamton like them so much in the first place

The others always just sorta let him entertain them as some funny little inconsequential guy that they let hang around with them, but Blue really did genuinely enjoy Spamton's company

Blue wasn't exactly too much better than the others, though. They prided themselves on being the nice one when being nice isn't exactly the same as being kind. They do grow to be kinder throughout their relationship with Spamton, though

When Spamton does finally fall for them, he completely disregards any faults Blue has and focuses only on the fact that they're nicer to him than they have to be. It's the type that when anything positive happens in its life, even the slightest thing that makes its life feel less awful, it clings to that

After getting feelings for them though Spamton is just absolutely zonked. Like it's gone. The guy is an absolute pathetic loser girlfailure who follows Blue around like a lost puppy

It like. Wants to do something meaningful for them but 1: it absolutely doesn't have the courage to and 2: it doesn't even have the money to try

And Blue is SO generous to him even though he doesn't quite understand why. He wants to swallow his pride and let them spend all their money on him but he ALSO doesn't want to feel like he's taking advantage of their kindness which. he also really wants to do

One of the things Blue does for it is make cookies! Like website cookies. They're an amazing cook too and cookies bring a lot of Addison-specific nutrition so Spamton really can't say no

Blue doesn't even know exactly why they feel like improving their demeanor towards Spamton and they aren't quite exactly the person to look inwards but they do it anyway because that's waht they feel like doing!

Blue realizes their feelings much later on and while they can tell that Spamton isn't Normal about them either they just. Feel so nervous about making a move

When they do Finally date Blue makes every excuse to spoil Spamton with as much love and affection as they can. They feel bad about having gone along with all the teasing and mocking that the other Addisons did, even though they didn't actively participate in it. And Spamton is just happy it got this far

Spamton likes taking Blue out on fun little novelty dates, like bowling or vintage shopping! Blue likes more sophisticated dates, like museums or concerts

And of course. Once Spamton starts getting money he turns the tables on Blue and buys them everything they could possibly want or need and more

Once he's on his way to big shot status, Spamton feels like he has to really prove he loves Blue, not just to Blue, but to himself, so he makes sure to flaunt his accomplishments in front of them. Isn't that what a proper Addison does?

Blue of course is so, so proud of it. They were with Spamton every step of the way and they're glad to see all of its hard work finally pay off

So like they're both in a generally content place at this point. For now

I love all of them! But here I'll share a few that really stood out to me! -The Julia one I mentioned before!: "I just….. I am love her. I was SO happy when she was introduced. Her first episode is my comfort media. Autistic representation where it isn’t framed as a bad thing is SO rare in children’s media, and “she does things a little bit differently, in a Julia sort of way” made me CRY. She is so much like me and she makes me so happy. The happy flaps when I saw her on the Sesame Street float at the Macy’s parade nearly hurt my wrist I was so happy. She is the best girl and deserves the best. Her puppet was designed to have a set of arms specifically so that she can stim, and she has a comfort toy like I do and doesn’t like the way paint feels like I don’t and loves to sing like I do and gets overwhelmed by sirens like I do and I just love her SO MUCH. (I didn’t link a picture because there are so many good ones! I like the one where she is looking at a feather, and also the one from the cover of the picture book she initially appeared in <3)" -Audrey II: "want to preface: either the stage version or the '86 movie version works, as both are portrayed by puppets! although neither is canonically a puppet in the story. i couldn't tell from the rules if this was disqualifying or not. BUT if i could get a word in for the movie Audrey II: WHAT A GORGEOUS PUPPET… or should i say SERIES of PUPPET/ANIMATRONIC HYBRIDS! there's somewhere in the ballpark of a dozen Twoies in the film to represent the different growth stages of the plant. they're all beautifully painted with vibrant detail, perfectly matching the high camp tone & setting! the mechanics of the puppet are also intricate and innovative; especially the MOUTH those lip syncs are so accurate and expressive! the largest puppets were actually so heavy that in order to remain accurate to the audio, they had to be operated along to the tracks and filmed at half speed, then sped up in editing… which means that when the actors appear with the plant in those scenes, they're ALSO performing at half speed! the stage play versions are (by necessity) less technical than these puppets, which were fabricated by the Jim Henson company btw, but lots are still really cool; a unique standout is the one from the Pasadena Playhouse production! whew. all this and i didnt even talk about the character… Audrey II is an alien plant that was beamed down to Earth and wants to take over the world. it sings some catchy songs about that. they can fit so much queercoding and slay into this plant. it's a girlboss it's a drag queen it manipulated a young man into committing several murders. we stan." -Spamton: "Hee heehee I am so obsessed with this silly puppet guy. I love how he went from an absolute snazzy lil salesman dude with his red tux, and just gradually turned into a complete disaster of himself. I like how little detail is actually shared about his past, so you're left to wonder if he was actually brought down by circumstances out of his control, or if he brought his failures upon himself and just doesn't want to accept that. I want to give him a hug and he would no doubt try to bargain for my soul in the process"

1. Talk about the first time you and your f/o met. How was it like?

I don't think I've gotten the backstory down 100% but I know they started dating when Spamton was in his Big Shot era! I think when he stopped being successful he kinda vanished and assumed Apostrophe wouldn't wanna be with him anymore...I think Apostrophe was Spamton's first customer ever when he was an Addison so he remembered him forever- and Apostrophe came in a lot because he was happy someone was being nice to him. I think they both fell in love very fast tbh. Like love at first site. So Apostrophe's been with Spamton through it all.

4. Was there a special moment between you guys that got you to realize you had feelings for them? Was it a deep conversation, spending more quality time with them or something else? How about vice versa?

I think there were two seperate instances. One was when Spamton and Apostrophe first started dating- I think it was just like out of a romance movie...like maybe they attended a festival together and while the fireworks came on they kissed and had been together since. But after Spamton lost everything, he vanished and Apostrophe just...didn't know where he was. Spamton was nervous that Apostrophe wouldn't wanna be with him anymore. But when they finally reuinited, Apostrophe told him that he loved him no matter what and wanted to be with him through everything, no matter what.

5. When you first started crushing on them, what qualities of theirs stood out to you? Was it their smile? Their eyes? Their way with words? Anything else? How about vice versa? (It can be any trait. Personality, appearance, etc.)

I think the first thing Apostrophe noticed was how Spamton was very nice- he knew it was probably because he was a salesman but Apostrophe was very lonely and didn't have and friends so he appreciated it. He also thought Spamton's smile was so cute- and still thinks it is!

I think Spamton thought Apostrophe was cute like, immediatly, but kept his composure. But inside when he made his first sale to him he was freaking out inside, half because he was so excited, and half him being nervous he'd never see Apostrophe again. But Apos kept coming in...I think everytime Spamton saw Apos he found another feature about him to love.

9. Before dating, did either of you ever have any embarrassing moments? (Examples: Socially awkward moments, almost accidentally revealing your feelings to them, being clumsy, etc.)

I think things were awkward because neither of them wanted to say anything regarding the crush because they were convinced the other didn't feel that way- even though every single person that knew Spamton was like "MAN. HE WANTS YOU." and Spamton was like idk tho :/ and everyone was like -_-

15. Does anyone else know about your feelings for your f/o? Did they find out on their own, or did you go to them? How about vice versa? Does anyone else know about your f/o’s feelings for you?

Every person except Spamton knew that Apostrophe liked Spamton. It was just SO obvious- but Spamton didn't want to assume anything, and Apostrophe was the same way. They were both waiting for the other to say something...meanwhile everyone else was like OMG JUST KISS ALREADY

Like I said, it would be sans with more depresso less cool fighting. But even THEN I feel like ppl would be like "well they were good in this specific instance so obviously that means they're secretly really powerful" LIKE FUCKING SANS AND ITS JUST BECAUSE SPAMTON WAS HOLDING HIMSELF BACK-

And then the depression is a whole topic on its own. They're suicidal. That's a fact. Ppl would either use that Way Too Much, or just forget about it. Because "they're happy and smiling and laughing all the time so they obviously can't be that sad" WRONG they are SAD and they just hide it. They have SH scars and they genuinely tried to commit suicide before the events of RFAS. They're better in the story because of that phenomenon where once ppl have a plan, they feel the pressure has lifted. Spamton helps them through the crash of realizing they're still alive, and they just generally feel better with him around.

And they're nice to everyone, even the addisons, because they don't feel GOOD they are BARELY hanging on and so their relationships are all surface level. It's also why they take FOR-FUCKING-EVER to realize they have a crush on spam. They're a self sacrificing idiot, and they can't see past the horizon. Only after they become more stable do they realize, 'oh, hey, this guy is like. Kinda actually my type?'

I feel like the nuance would be completely lost. They don't want to be alive, but they are, and they have to deal with that. Everyone else has to deal with the consequences of how they deal with it too.

And the drunk kiss. Ugh. Ppl would 100% make it a confession and nothing else. They wouldn't understand why Spamton didn't want to admit anything, or why he became more avoidant about the subject because of it. OR they would take it as "well he obviously doesn't love them" and ruin EVERYTHING

There's so much. God damn nuance. That's lost with fandom shit. Especially the utdr community. I shouldn't have to explain why Spamton and the Addisons have a tenuous relationship after the hospital. I shouldn't have to explain the intricacies of navigating through someone's suicidal mind. BUT I BET I WOULD HAVE TO IF THIS WAS REAL

OF COURSE !!!!! Alright so as mentioned, tibatee is based off of the tinba/tbt virus and is part of the virus gang. Tibatees deal is that whatever he touches becomes corrupted. The corruption can be mild, barely noticeable or at worst life threatening. Even food can be corrupted, for example a thin liquid becoming chunky if he touches it. For these reasons Tibatee was sent to the Cyber Hospital which in present day doesnt exist anymore. People tried treating him, injecting him with what they believed were antidotes, but because of tibatees corruption the antidotes made everything worse. He once accidentally created the virovirokuns, literally, it was on accident but hes the reason they exist. There was also once a tasque manager before the tasque manager we see in deltarune chapter 2, the reason she was replaced was because tibatee accidentally caused her to go into an eternal bluescreen/coma by holding onto her hand for too long. Since she was unresponsive and was basically in a coma, Queen just got a new tasque manager. After a while the whole hospital itself became uninhabitable by people who either werent viruses or didnt have some form of corruption in their body, and tibatee was left all alone in that hospital, still hooked up to an IV pole. After a long time, Queen decided to wreck the entire building since it had no use anymore. Tibatee was already out of the hospital by that time luckily. Tibatee was found by Euran (thats my friends oc ! they're based off of the You Are An Idiot virus!!) and together they make the virus gang !! (there was once another member of the virus gang but i dunno if the person who had the oc even wants to really be part of that anymore which is valid and ok !!) Tibatee lives on the street, and since he among many other viruses are basically rejected by society, it's the only place he calls home. Of course he and euran have to occasionally rob some place or dig through garbage bins to survive daily, but it could be worse. Much worse. Tibatee has horse-like features such as horse ears, and hooves, due to the tinba virus being a trojan horse. Accompanied with tibatees body occasionally switching forms and whatnot due to his corruptive nature. His appearence doesnt change daily, it can happen randomly, he can change back into what he looked like at some point before, or it can be caused through a heaping amount of stress. Tibatee's head can also change shape mainly due to what hes feeling, but only when those emotions are extremely strong. His face can clog up with butterflies, error screens can pop up all around his head, his head can become pink slimy mush, etc. It isn't very pleasant for him when that happens. He still wears his hospital gown because its the only clothes he has, and he believes that whatever is in that IV tube infinitely flowing into his arm is meant to help him, so he never unhooks it or anything. It also reminds him of the small good times he had in that hospital. His corruption does effect those who are already a bit corrupted or those who are viruses greatly, it can effect them, but its not noticeable. Spamton, for example, is already corrupted in some way, if Tibatee were to touch him nothing would really happen. That being said, he must've encountered spamton at least once or twice due to them both living in dumpsters and being rejects of society as a whole. Hello!! Thanks for the ask!!

Who was my first favorite character when I first got into my f/o's source content? Was it him?

Actually I believe it was either Susie or Roulx! I've known about Deltarune since Chapter 1, so Spams wasn't in it yet! As for Chapter 2? Yeah I would have to say it's Spamton! In fact he's the entire reason I actually started playing Deltarune!! Funny how that works!

Are there any scenes/chapters/moments that he's in that I skip when I revisit his source content?

Uhh no not really. I did skip some things just so I could play his route mostly blind. However that's like, 10% compared to what I have seen. I have not seen a whole lot from Snowgrave. Again cuz playing it blind (and I'll cry too)

If I could change one thing about his source content, would I? What would I change?

I mean, there's the obvious "I would put myself in there" answer. But then it really wouldn't be Deltarune. I dunno, I don't think I would because of Spamton's character, who he is, how he acts. I mostly want in there to give him a happy ending.

Reasons why Papyrus could be the Knight

-Papyrus is the only main character from Undertale that we haven't had any interactions with. Even if we can only talk a little bit with Mettaton we can at least talk to him, with Papyrus we don't even get that and we might not be able to see him in a while

-His absence is acknowledged in the steam page of deltarune in a super vague way

[I.D. : "Meet new and endearing main characters, as well as familiar faces like Toriel, Sans, as more. Huh? Papyrus? No, he's busy. Sorry"]

-Both Sans and Papyrus are most likely related to Gaster, who is an extremely important character in Deltarune. Everyone tends to only focus on Sans's connection to Gaster but we can't ignore the fact that Papyrus is just as important in his backstory as Sans. The thing is we know nothing about them in Undertale, we know more about Sans and Gaster, so the majority of people don't really think about Papyrus when it comes to stuff related to Gaster. Wouldn't it make sense if we got to know more about Papyrus's connection to Gaster in this game?

-Sans and Papyrus in Deltarune are probably the same ones from Undertale. Sans remembers this but to our knowledge Papyrus probably doesn't, and Papyrus is known to be "forgettable". A major event could have happened in his life that made him forget things

-Papyrus has a really strong obsession with being a royal guard, sure, it's because he wants to be popular, but why would he think that? Undyne isn't popular, she says so herself, she is a heroine but she isn't popular or has friends only because she's a royal guard, neither do any of the other members. Yet he still believes this very strongly, and even wears a royal guard costume all the time. Maybe in another place... he used to wear something similar, a knight armor you could say. Maybe he really wants to be like that again but he doesn't remember why

-Being The Knight doesn't necessarily mean being a bad guy, we barely know anything about this mysterious character. Even if the role of The Knight was antagonistic, there is a chance that Papyrus wouldn't fully realize or admit that he was doing something wrong (maybe he isn’t even doing anything wrong at all!), NOT because he's dumb or naive because he isn't, but his heart could be in the right place while someone else could have other intentions (not necessarily evil either, but maybe with their own intentions). Why do I think this? Because something similar to that already happened in Undertale with Papyrus and Flowey

-Papyrus loves puzzles, but I doubt there aren't any in the outside world of deltarune. It feels like he would fit in better in a Dark World

-A common pattern that I have seen in Deltarune is a strong theme of loneliness (I made a whole post about this but I can't find it lol I'm sorry). Kris is the lonely weird kid of town, Susie isolated herself and pushed everyone away, Ralsei has been alone all of his life, Lancer used to be disliked by mostly everyone until he met Susie, Noelle is a shy and insecure girl that misses her sister a lot which makes everything feel scarier to her, Berdly is terrified of being on his own without Noelle, Darkners in general feel abandoned, Dess is lost and all alone, the main undertale characters seem a bit less happy than in undertale because the majority of them aren't friends with each other and their friendships are what helps them grow in undertale, Jevil was locked away from everyone else, Spamton lost his friends and ended up all alone, ... yeah, do you see the pattern? Now, which Undertale character would you say fits this theme the most? Could it be the skeleton that so desperately wants friends? It could be, especially now since all he does is stay home and not talk to anyone else

-Paraphrasing Papyrus in Undertale, 'maybe all you need to make friends is give them puzzles and then battle them'. He could be trying to help others and also help himself make some friends with this whole thing about being the Knight

-Bonetrousle is Papyrus's theme, it's also the theme that plays in many trailers, it used to be the main battle theme for Deltarune. Papyrus's room is absent of music in Undertale. Papyrus's theme song is just full of mystery

-Papyrus only uses majuscules when he speaks, just like Spamton and Jevil, I don't think anyone else does this. Papyrus doesn't start a sentence with an asterisk either unlike everyone else... that's so strange and there is no explanation for it

-We barely know anything about Papyrus, he's incredibly mysterious. If another character was this mysterious everyone would think they could be The Knight, but Papyrus is constantly seen as just a funny character and nothing else so many people don't even consider him as a possible Knight, even if he doesn't end up being the Knight he needs to be brought up way more as a possible candidate

-Papyrus is my favorite character and I want him to be important in Deltarune, that's all

Deltarune Theory: Ralsei is a guide for the script

It feels crazy that Deltarune Chapter 2 has only been out for like, what, two weeks? As of the time I’m writing this, and yet, there has already been so much secret hunting and speculation over this. Not even the full game, and people already go crazy over it. Naturally, I am part of this craze. In fact I was one of the people that played it as soon as it dropped.

And, I thought it was only me, but, at least for a little while, Ralsei’s behavior struck me as… odd. Not outwardly malicious, but just… odd. Particularly the first bit of the game, it was just so… happy and convenient? And Ralsei was at the center of it all, orchestrating it, making sure everything happened accordingly.

Eventually, that initial feeling of distrust went away, but… not quite. And it seems a lot of people began to feel the same way, pointing out bits about Ralsei that are just… out of place. Things that didn’t seem to stand out in the first chapter, are now popping out about him.

Questions include:

How does he know about what’s outside the Dark World, about the school?

How does he know about the game mechanics and call them out by names?

Why is he so interested in keeping the balance between only Kris acting and him and Susie doing magic?

Why does he seem so eager to dismiss what happened with Spamton NEO?

Why doesn’t he turn into stone or even get weak at any point during the time he spends in Cyber World?

Are the parts of his name and design connecting to the Dreemurr’s intentional, and if so, what does that mean for his relation to Kris?

How and why does he take player control away to look at what Susie is doing? Why must he wait until Kris is willing to do it? What does he tell them when he succeeds in this?

Now, I don’t intend to pose here “a supreme theory to rule them all”, I’m just a guy having fun and I’ve seen people voice particularly similar ideas to this one I’ve had, so I want to at least try to answer these questions through a relatively simple idea that would, almost entirely, immediately answer ALMOST all the doubts.

First, let’s start with some steps to build up this idea. For one, we know for a fact that Ralsei holds knowledge over game mechanics and may even break the fourth wall at times.

But we also know that Ralsei’s design resembles a lot of characters from Undertale we know and were fond of. For one, he can be likened to Toriel in the sense that he is the one to give you the first tutorial of the game and his clothes resemble her original outfit as well. Another connection, much more common, that people have made is that he is like Asriel, no doubt due to his name being an anagram, but also due to the fact he is also a cute young goat.

I would like to do a complete turn around here though, and say I do not think any of this points to Ralsei being related to Kris in the familial sense, for more than one reason, but my main one being that I don’t think Toby would be as frankly disgusting as to imply such a thing when there is so so much teasing in the direction of Ralsei possibly having a crush on Kris. I mean… really, Toby?

You know, I’m not too sure this would be the smartest idea, Mr. Fox, but alright.

However, I do think all these hints in his design and name have a purpose. And it has to do with how us, the fandom, see these two characters. For one, they are very beloved characters, and Toriel is one that we associate with her tutorials and guidance, whereas Asriel is one that people have yearned to see more in action. They are back, in a sense, but not present in our adventures so far.

What I’m getting at is that Ralsei is specifically designed to be the darling of the fandom. He is made to be loved, to be trusted, to cause feelings in us that make us want to protect him and accept his advice. This, in a way, also affects the in-universe characters who see him, as Susie put it: “as a big portable teddy bear”, whose job is “giving hugs”.

And I don’t just mean this in a character design way, like “oh wow Toby was so smart to make a perfectly marketable boy!” No. I think Ralsei exists as a meta element, his form being a direct manifestation of what we want to see.

He looks like that because he wants us to see him and lower our guard and expect his guidance. Remember how his form was shadowy and vague throughout all of chapter 1 until the very end of it and how he poofs into nothing but a pile of clothes in both chapters so far, no matter what form he’s in? What if he’s a shapeshifter? What if Ralsei isn’t even his real name? That certainly would explain why he says he doesn’t know what being Ralsei-like is like.

Ralsei? Ralsei? Oh God he’s gone.

Now, do I think he’s lowering our guard in the sense of leaving us vulnerable for an attack? Not exactly. I think it's so we learn to accept him…

Accept that he is a GUIDE for the game’s script. His entire existence hinges on guiding the main characters, specially Kris, throughout the story, and making sure the whole story, all seven chapters, play out exactly as planned.

You see, Ralsei isn’t evil. His goal is pretty simple, actually: guide us, the player, throughout the game, making us feel as safe and happy and secure. In that sense, of course he pushes so hard towards the pacifist route. After all, that’s the one that’s closer to a completionist route, as the sparing + recruiting mechanic adds more characters to your town, and therefore more content. He wants you to see all this content and get the most enjoyment out of it. His code urges him to bring you the best experience possible.

This would also answer why he does that thing with taking our control away from Kris and to watch Susie’s shenanigans. Because it’s satisfying to us. Notice how stressed out and pushy he gets in the alternate route when Susie comes out of Noelle’s room without being able to let us see what happened. He knows he messed up, something went wrong. He was supposed to let us see, so that we wouldn’t be bored, because God forbid the players be bored.

Just imagine this going through his head.

He also seems to genuinely care about Kris and Susie, and with good reason, as he knows these are the protagonists, and he is supposed to care for their well being too and ensure they reach their goal. I do think, however, there is a good amount of being genuine in his care, as he has no reason to react so boldly sometimes to either of them, showing outrage or affection in pretty telling ways. He isn’t heartless despite carrying out this job.

However it is also worth noting, for all his care, he cannot do the one thing that Kris would desire the most: free them from our grasp. And that is his ultimate failure towards them, and may end up creating conflict later on in the game.

From, here, there are two possible pathways:

Ralsei does not know about the dilemma Kris is going through, and believes Kris is entirely oblivious and passive towards being in a video game. He may even end up being the final boss to fight, as he desperately tries to keep everything on rails while Kris very much does not care for any of that.

Ralsei is entirely aware of what’s going on with Kris, after all, everything in a game’s design is planned, even the cutscenes, therefore even Kris’ struggles. Ralsei knows of the fate that lies ahead, that Kris will eventually be free, how it all ends. But to get there… is still a road ahead.

I think Ralsei’s affection towards Kris will definitely be explored in the later chapters. Not just because of the teasing we’ve been getting, but, if Ralsei really is a guide of the game’s code and script, what would that mean for him to get so attached towards the character the player is controlling?

Ralsei will have to make a choice. He will either recognize Kris is suffering and cannot wait any longer, or be faced with possibly having to fight them himself. This is why those two pathways matter as well. If he doesn’t know, his choice will come later and it will be an unpleasant surprise for him to find out the game universe is breaking apart around him with the self awareness of certain characters. If he does know, however, his choice is NOW, and waiting for the inevitable will be torture.

Just how long until he breaks? Or will he keep the facade until the very last chapter?

Like I said, I don’t intend this theory to be the biggest, most revealing and coherent theory. But… It could add a very interesting layer to Ralsei’s character, as well as answer many questions posed beforehand. He knows the school layout and game controls because he is part of the code. He can get to the other Dark World’s easily and remain unharmed because the game demands him to be. He looks like this so that we love him. He wants to give us the most fulfilling Castle Town so that we will love the game. He doesn’t protest even when Kris does things like try to give him the thorn ring, because to him, everything will be okay anyway. Everything he is, is for us. He isn’t evil or malicious per se, he just opposes Kris’ biggest need.

But he may have gotten himself attached. And that may be a clue to sparing him if he does become a final boss.

But! Tell me what you thought of this theory! Do you think it’s way too weird and farfetched, or do you think it’s possible that it could happen? Or maybe you agree with some stuff but not with other stuff? Go ahead and tell me!

Spamton Character Analysis/Discussion

Gonna post my thoughts on spamton and his character since I saw talk about it! I love this guy so ill present everything I know and what I think is going on with him

I enjoy writing a lot, but I am an amatuer so please forgive my structure haha.

I wrote this addressing all sorts of thoughts and questions. If anyone has anything to say please do!

Spamtons introduction I think his introduction is a pretty good starting point for him He pops out of his dumpster and gives his introduction AND then notices kris and addresses them Spamton gives me the animatronic giving its dance number to an empty auditorium vibe He gave his little intro before being aware anyone was watching him He has a certain way of acting and it seems there's some things he can't help Like his introduction and his quirks

Spamton absolutely is aware hes scamming people, but I think he feels that there's no other option. Other characters have mentioned him asking for their help to get into the mansion, and the addisons pretend he doesn't exist. He comes across as a sort of person no one is willing to help, so he has to resort to lying to get what he wants. Which for his current goals, i don't blame anyone for not. I say he knows bc in pacifist Neo he apologizes for the scams and promises to do better. Personally I think this is exactly where people get his softer interpretations. Spamton seems to know his scams are wrong and wants to do better and actually be a friend, but the universe or whatever is tormenting him just won't let him have it.

Is Spamton being Controlled? I would say, yes. To what degree? I'm not sure! I do not know where he got the idea to put himself into Neo. Did the voice tell him? Did he figure it out? Did he not put himself in before because he wasn't that desperate yet? Whatever the case, I believe the pursuit of Neo was his own sort of. I think whoever gave him forbidden knowledge/is controlling him knew what would happen but he convinced himself it was the solution to everything. I think, that whatever is controlling spamton is more in his thoughts and what he can say. The very telling shop dialouge where he seems to "break character" and beg someone for forgiveness strongly hints that hes not just talking about freedom in an existential way, but more of an actual way (edited) Spamton is desperate. He says so to us. His dialog and flavor texts also hint at this. He says very clearly "[help]", NOTHINGS WRONG NOTHINGS WRONG NOTHINGS WRONG., the it burns dialouge, the soft cry for help in the shop Lots of things in his dialouge plainly show someone who needs and wants help but. Its Spamton. He doesn't know what will help him and he believes he has to scam to get any help. All he has is Neo as his one last hope. I personally don't think he's bad for "scamming" us either. We go along with it willingly. Kris maybe doesn't, but we do. I see Spamton as a very flowey/chara like character. He needs help, but he doesn't know what he needs. He thinks Neo will solve all his problems (like flowey with the human souls and wanting to "play" forever). Thing is, spamton never needed any soul to realize what he was doing was wrong. He knew, he just didn't think there was any other way. Spamton is sentimental and deep down just wants friendship imo. He talks about being a big shot being his end goal, but at the end of pacifist, all he's happy about is being free and living for himself and his friends. In snowgrave he talks about muttering his "lost friends" names at the bottom of a dumpster. He very clearly misses his friends. But he has been abandoned. His friends even clearly stated it was them that left first. I don’t know why they did not reconnect with him afterwards. There is lots we do not see with spamton. He could have estranged them even further, or perhaps he avoided them on purpose because he was ashamed. He misses them and wishes to see them still though. This again is where I think people get his softer interpretations. He is a scammer, but honestly. Hes the embodiment of spam email. He can't help being who he is. He's like Edward scissorhands. He cuts everyone he loves because of who he is, regardless of how he feels.

He’s a very difficult character to parse! Characters that are embodiments of actual concepts also having their own personalities is difficult. It’s like the whole nature and nurture thing, how much of their actions is purely them and how much is it because of who they are? (Not forgiving any actions here lol, i just find it very sad and interesting how spamton is literally something people hate in the real world and how what he is influences his “life”)

Alright next thought: Spamton hates himself Now this is a weird one huh? The guy that plasters his face on everything and sends mini versions of himself to fight hates himself? Not as unlikely as one would think! Snowgrave is very telling on this one. His whole speech is basically to himself. Talking about his abandonment and how he is pathetic and how he makes himself sick. He calls himself (and the player) a worm. Everything he says to kris in that speech is projection at himself. Even in pacifist Neo fight we see some of his self hate. He is absolutely elated at the idea of not being a "long nosed doll" anymore. Spamton very much doesn't like himself or his body. He stinks because he lives in a dumpster and he hates it so much he punches it likely leaving a dent. Personally I think everything has his face on things bc the only thing he has left is himself. It's the only thing he can "sell". And like mettaton he probably used to sell things with his face on them all the time. Its like his introduction, its just part of who he is. He probably just rolls with it bc he probably tries to see himself as a temporarily embarrassed big shot. His face will be worth millions again!! Just you wait!!! (....)

Snowgrave Spamton Since we mentioned snowgrave, im gonna say yeah, I dont think spamton is evil. If flowey ultimately isn't evil, then he isn't either. Just like flowey, our actions influence him. In pacifist, spamton desperately jumps at the chance of us helping him get to Neo. We can totally just ignore him and complete the story without him with no punishment for that. In snowgrave however, when he sees us murdering everyone he has to change up his tactics. Of course he knows that if he fought us he would be frozen. So he's gonna help us. He's an opportunist 100%. Hes not the main villian at all in snowgrave. We are lol. We murder everyone. He helps, but its us who goes the whole way. He is still wrong for giving us the ring though and he even comments on that. I do think its strange that both he and the pink addison conveniently had rings that helped Noelle get stronger specifically. They almost feel intentionally placed, like someone gave them those items for snowgrave. Perhaps we will see more on that in future chapters. I do think its very funny that spamton counts taking over the mansion as becoming a big shot. He also seems fine with the wires in snowgrave. I do wonder if snowgrave Spamton is more "controlled" to be honest, but thats much more in conjecture than fact lol. To have more information on that we would have to just see in later chapters and see if a pattern emerges.

Anyways, I do think spamton is the ultimate opportunist. He will do what he can to get a leg up. He doesn't care how he does it. In snowgrave you prove to him that the way he's going about things is right. In Pacifist spamton comes to the conclusion that he was wrong because of your actions. He falls, but he is able to be lucid enough to not be self serving and gives himself up as an item to you. For someone as self serving as spamton to sacrifice himself is a big character moment imo. As gut wrenching as it is. I can see why people want to help him at that point. Post Neo spamton is the spamton that would most be receptive to help and friendship. I think lots of people struggle with pre neo spamton because it's hard to showcase his self serving nature. He's very selfish! He hates himself, but he wants to love himself again. Everything is about him in his world. Hes extremely funny in that way :y He is also aware that he has to sell himself. He knows that he has to be interesting so people will let him scam them. So thats just doubling back to why its always about him haha. Hes 100% a mettaton analog. Its all about him darling! (But secretly, all he really wants is his friends and life back) ((with sick neo wings lol)) Who is Mike? I have seen the Mike is the Voice/Gaster theory and you could interpret it as that yeah! You could totally say that. Personally, I think Mike was Spamtons camera guy for his commercials. Either that or a TV tycoon. Id say Mike will probably be like burgerpants/alphys to spamton Like, a mix of them together I imagine spamton would boss Mike around a lot like, GET THIS SHOT, or NO YOURE DOING IT WRONG But he genuinely considered Mike as a friend, until he was abandoned or stabbed in the back by him (edited) Acid theory Again, this is a maybe! Queens acid DOES shrink and spamton does have dialog you could connect it to (help! It burns! Please!)

You could argue this is a mis interpretation as in the Japanese dialog that line is more about staring into a bright light (the sun probably), if im remembering correctly. The implications of this with the English lines though make me wonder if spamton willingly became this way or if his mind was broken because of what he saw. Considering the dialouge involving that is begging for it to stop.

Spamton and religion Spamton discusses heaven, having communion with the divine and angels a lot. A personal note, but i find this to be one of my favorite parts of him. It’s very interesting Very strange that an inanimate object is aware of the divine, yeah? Spamton is very hung up on the idea of angels. His magic resembles them and his neo form resembles an angel as well. Spamton also prays and talks about having a communion with the divine. He seems to think that the Neo will save him and it has a connection to the divine (the light world?) (Personally I think heaven is our world, and he thought Neo would get him higher than the game, like how flowey thinks the human souls will help him) Thats why I think he just rolls with whatever the player does. I think he's aware kris is being controlled. He sees whatever they do as sort of divine. If he believes kris is being piloted by the angel. He does mention angel a lot in snowgrave, he could be referring to Noelle, or he could be talking to us. Or maybe he thinks all of it is kris. Spamton might just be projecting onto kris and just happens to be right on the money in his assumption that kris is also a puppet.

Personally, I think spamton is the strongest darkner we've met so far! If you encounter neo, the computer closest to the spam email junk bin (spamton is the whole bin), will blue screen. It does not do that if you dont encounter Neo. Spamton really was strong enough to influence the reality above his own and cause a physical change. What that means in the future, im unsure! We will have to see the other bosses in later chapters

Spamtons appearance In the poster he looks much different He looks more like an addison there, and in the fangamer merch we see that he didn't look like a puppet at all during his big shot era.

(You could argue the fangamer merch isnt canon, but they did base it off the poster from the wall, which doesn’t look like puppet spamton at all, so I am going to say, it is probably close enough to canon to count)

There are so many questions revolving this How did that happen? Who did that to him? Was it self inflicted? Why a puppet? Some people have brought up the acid theory but instead of shrinking spamton dies and possesses a doll/mannequin. For me, that would explain why mad dummy is a part of Neos theme along with mettatons. I do find it deeply interesting how an electronic being can be a ghost however. Its very...."living" to be able to have a ghost. That implies having a soul. The idea makes me sad though lol. Makes the addison procession after the Neo fight much more like a funeral than it already is.

Pre big shot and big shot Personally I think spamton before everything was just like. A regular dude. He had friends, he did his best, he had big dreams. He just, like his friends said, was very unlucky. He never sold anything and once he got his big break it all crashed down on him leading him to become a broken and homeless man living in a dumpster. Big shot spamton I think he was very much like Mettaton in this era. Everything was about him, everything he sold had his face on it. He was probably very full of himself, but like mettaton, he probably missed his friends a lot. But with him, no one checked up on him or called until it was too late. I really dont like the addisons lol. In undertale, Mettaton has napstablook who calls him to let him know how they feel. With spamton, none of them tried to connect with him, and even afterwards they pretended he didn't exist. Despite how they treated him, he STILL thought of them and wished to see them!!! I honestly think the addisons, any of them, if they had been in the same position as him would have come out even worse. Spamton still thought about his friends, and they only showed up when he was dead. (Hes not dead in the dealmakers, but) Its very brutal abandonment and I can understand spamtons bitterness when he insists he and kris need no one. I will be fair and say, there is probably history we are missing, but from just their own admissions, the addisons aren’t very good friends imo.

Overall I think spamton is very selfish and opportunistic but he is also strangely sentimental and caring. He is a very beautifully multi faceted character who not only makes black and gray decisions all the time, he makes white ones too. I think everyone that interprets him as a sleazeball is correct and everyone that interprets him as a sad lonely guy who needs a friend is also correct. Both of them are spamton.

Spamton and Mettaton A discussion on his character and his relations to mettaton Spamton i absolutely believe is a mettaton analog He wants to be in a new body, he was an entertainer, he has friends who he is now estranged from all like mettaton Id say spamton even personality wise is very close to mettaton Id say both of them are morally grey, absolutely so before they meet the human (pacifist) You might be wondering why im saying mettaton is gray as well, well there's a good reason In one of the neutral endings, mettaton becomes ruler and he straight up has dissenters to his rule killed or jailed And he is quite verbally abusive to burgerpants Hes not a perfect angel at all, but that makes him fun I bring up mettatons wrongs in the neutral route bc I believe ultimately its our decisions that change how both characters look at life.

We are a force of the universe, we literally shape the rules. We either show that kindness and patience can win out, or that in this world its kill or be killed. Both characters understand and operate by the latter to a degree. With mettaton he is completely fine with dangerous things on his show (even tho its all just for show) and being a despot dictator when he finds himself in that position.He’s only the friendly robot host in pacifist/less murdery neutral routes.

Spamton seems to believe that he can only get what he wants by scamming. He thinks that nothing is given for free or done out of the kindness of one's heart. After all, we are helping him because he promised us the sought after [hyperlink blocked]. He understands hes scamming, but to him, its just the way the world works. When we go snowgrave we show to spamton that he was right to think that he can only rely on himself and he should only be trying to uplift himself. He sides with us simply because he can see money to be made! He sees us as a way to get to his goal, so there is absolutely no character growth for him in snowgrave. I could argue he slides even further down, bc in his final speech its mostly just a hate filled breakdown directed at himself.

In pacifist, we show spamton that its not all about scamming others. Even though he fell hard from the last string being cut, he seems to still believe what he said. He knows he can't be free, but he's going to do the self less thing and help someone else despite his wish to be free. Thats very big character growth for him. I would say pre neo and post neo spamton are almost entirely different characters to us. Same as how enemy and friend undyne are different. Pre Neo, spamton is very manic, always focused on himself. Hes always saying nows your chance, but he obviously means nows MY chance. All of his deals benefit him. He very clearly wants help, but he has no idea how to get it without manipulating others. He just doesn't see anyone engaging with him unless he has something for them to "win".

Post Neo spamton i would say realized that he doesn't have to scam people. Before he fell he was going to turn over a whole new leaf. And I think he genuinely meant it, because after he crashed down and it turns out he wasn't free after all, he still offered himself to help save someone else. Despite wanting to pursue his freedom, the lesson that not everything has to be a deal stuck with him. So him giving himself up, no deals attached, was his big character growth moment. Hes also still a silly guy, as shown when the pocket is full. I very deeply hope he comes out of the pocket someday. I imagine he would still be very silly, but also a bit more reserved. He would probably make very little or just more honest deals. They may still be just him selling garbage, but he wouldn't be making them to manipulate others into making him god.

I'm always happy to encounter someone else who ISN'T a fan of the acid theory because I'm beginning to feel very alienated for not liking it. The theory itself doesn't even bother me as much as how fandom treats it as practically canon. It's almost as common as the fanon white-haired Addison Spamton now, so much so that fic writers don't even warn or mention it until it suddenly comes up, like, it should be ~obvious~ that that happened. Like, I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't *everywhere*.

Ah, the Acid theory, a popular yet controversial theory.

You are not alone in disliking it, I won't name specific people but a few others have also expressed their dislike of the theory, namely the fact it contradicts some previously established canon.

I will put another disclaimer that this in no way means people should stop writing or drawing anything concerning the theory, this would be policing on my part and my intent is not and will never be "stop having fun".

(There were a few posts some time back criticizing the theory, but I cannot find them now. If you have these posts please be sure to reblog with a link to the post!)

There are several reasons as to why the theory is problematic (side note, this is a word that has somewhat changed meaning thanks to internet culture, I am using the term here in its original sense: Open to doubt; debatable.)

At first glance the theory seems to have merit, considering the acid river sequence the player goes through, and the remarks Spamton makes in allusion to the acid river as he used to be an inhabitant of the mansion. That, and there is Queen's statement that the acid shrinks anyone who falls into it, further supported by Spamton's dialogue. It's easy to see why the theory becomes popular for this reason.

But, further examination into the game sees several contradictions: First, the acid does not have that much of an effect on Darkners, Queen can drink it just fine (it seems to have an inebriating effect), and I believe there's a line mentioning Swatchlings swimming in it unharmed but I don't know how correct that is.

Her "guests" shrink from the acid, but they shrink to about the size of a mouse, not to the size of a teenager, hence why they can fit in those tiny "villas".

Second, this applies to the above about Queen, there is a common idea that it was either Queen or Swatch that "threw" Spamton into acid. There's...no evidence to support that beyond the fact these two characters would have been present at the time. Furthermore, it is out of character for either of them to consider the act:

Queen is not cruel. She is strange, airheaded and has a playful attitude that often leads to mistakes being made and criticism from her civillians, but she is not cruel enough that she would dump someone in acid as an act of revenge/punishment. The fandom, weirdly enough, seems to want to make the Queen out to be more evil than she really lets on (or more than she really wants to be), all for making Spamton the victim and, often, Swatch as his savior. It's a very strange phenomenon in my opinion.

Swatch has a little less established character so the situation is more ambiguous, but they’re not especially violent enough to do such a thing either.

There is that other problem with the theory: using it to further angst plots and Spamton’s victim role in fanworks. Personally, I find it a little cheap when there are probably more creative ways you could portray his downfall. It also adds on to the phenomenon of needing to rescue and protect him from perceived ills, making him helpless in that situation re: ableism and treating him like a child.

The final reason the theory can be contradicted is that in the Japanese text, the line about burning is attributed into staring into something so bright it burned away at his eyes. This is personally a little more interesting to me than simply using acid, and it provides more creativity as to what could have burned his eyes out.

And, yes, I agree wholeheartedly on the untagged Acid Theory mentions, I do feel that it’s something that should be trigger tagged, and too many people in the fandom fail to do so.
