thinking about how the fandom treats spamton and jevil + how it would reflect on their characters (which makes sense because they both have some kind of meta knowledge). also what it tells us about their relationship

spamton is so idealized by fandom that it gets to point where it feels like they prefer their version of spamton over the real, canon spamton. it's sad because i think spamton is never really appreciated for being himself, so he hides or tones down the true aspects of him when socializing or having intimacy with people because it's not like anyone is ever gonna accept "all of him". he deals with severe abandonment issues and that’s something made pretty clear from the first time we meet him.

and he’s bitter about it. he doesn’t believe in friendship anymore.

spamton probably feels like people come, use him for what they want (scammy products, quick solutions to problems like weight loss through untrustworthy pills) and then leave. which is very fitting, as he’s a puppet.

jevil is also like that. he's way too intense for people, he's way too obnoxious and eccentric, he's way too much. i think he hides his horns and claws with his jester attire (the gloves i understand, but wouldn’t it make sense for his horns to show through his hat? wouldn’t that also make it clearer that he’s a demon? only his ears and tail remain uncovered) because that might make people be less fearful of or overwhelmed by him. he's old fashioned and cryptic, no one in their right mind (aside from seam but that blew up in his face too) is gonna give their time of day nor their intimacy to someone like him. jevil feels like people will only look at him to shun him out or point at him and go "lmao scary clown" and IF someone takes an interest in him is because they're a freak who likes a freak like him.

jevil is also very clear about his loneliness. he’s free, but at what cost? he has no one to play with, no one he can convince to let themselves outside and keep him company. the exact opposite of spamton who time and time again denies the importance of friends and companions (and tries to rob that from kris, too).

and when you refuse to play a game with him, he basically “forces” you (to open the door, at least).

what kind of freedom is this? people can only be free with him if they’re forced to play a game? he’s literally robbing you of your freedom.

this is very contradictory and reminds me of how spamton feels about betrayal, yet betrays kris the first chance he gets. and how spamton repeatedly says he won’t force kris to take any deals, but does it anyway (both in his regular fight and spamton neo, where he becomes desperate and pleading).

both of these characters are super flawed and slowly being consumed by the awful feeling of being tossed aside. which fits with their “spam mail and joker card” theme.

so imagine these two, after finding a way to put their frustrating differences aside and notice their similarities, just finding each other and finding out they don't need to be ashamed of sharing who they truly are. their walls go down and makes them both accept each other and maybe even make them interested in knowing each other better. i believe they just need a quiet moment, away from all the terrible things going on, to just sit down and talk.

thinking abt how every spamvil hater ive seen villainizes jevil and victimizes spamton to the moon and back. like their argument against spamvil is ALWAYS, without fail, "it would hurt spamton :(" and then they have nothing to say about jevil or talk abt how jevil would hurt him somehow.

First of all idk where this weirdass villainization of jevil is coming from. People seem to think hes this irredeemable soulless clown who feels nothing and doesnt care abt anyone. Meanwhile, ingame, he literally admits he is lonely and was close to Seam in the past. Yes he needs to learn how to be serious and has a cynical view of the world, but for some reason the fandom doesnt see him as a complex and flawed character. they just decide hes too far gone and would hurt anyone he has a relationship with, including spamton.

And then theres spamton, everyone's favorite innocent angel never did anything wrong bbg apparently!! The fandom doesnt treat spamton anything like they do Jevil. They actually want good things for him, a better future, and feel sorry for him. That's not a bad thing, I feel the same, but these same people will ignore all his flaws and how literally evil he was in the snowgrave route. Spamton is not a good person. I thought this was explicitly clear in the game, but apparently bc he has sad lore spoonfed to the audience this is ignored.

In regards to Jevil, Spamton is extremely bitter and jealous of him. The only things spamton himself has said about jevil is that he wishes to "surpass" him, and that he lost to jevil's games in the past. He even admits he cheated in many of these games. Spamton is not a trustworthy person. if you havent noticed his character is literally based on scam emails. Spamton is just jealous of Jevil's happiness despite the situation theyre both in, which is understandable in a way. Still, it doesnt mean spamton is in the right for being bitter and resentful. There's no real evidence Jevil has actively hurt spamton in any way, esp not on purpose. He literally just beat him at games and is way happier than he is and he's angry about it.

People consume all this shit at SURFACE LEVEL- reminder that this is an unfinished game MADE TO BE ANALYZED- and dont look any deeper into these very complex and interesting characters. All these spamvil haters assume Jevil is just irredeemable and too far gone and find spamtons backstory depressing but dont think about what these two NEED to heal from their experiences. Having gone through similar shit, they're really the only people who could understand each other to such an extent. They both need to let their guard down and listen to each other because they can offer each other a different point of view on a similar situation, which is what the both of them NEED more than anything. Yes it would take a lot of time; these are very flawed people. But you cant just. leave them where they are right now and expect either of them to heal completely on their own. Being alone is the LAST thing either of them needs. Jevil literally admits to being lonely and spamton ACTIVELY gets worse the longer he is alone. Yes he has trust issues, but he needs to be able to open up if he ever wants to get better.

Theres also the argument of "spamton is afraid of clowns" which isnt valid anyway because i just got done explaining how even if hes afraid of opening up and being close to people, spamton NEEDS it if he wants any chance at getting better. Sometimes you have to face your fears to make any progress. Plus spamton himself has never shown any sign of fearing jevil. He's only ever regarded him with bitterness and jealousy.

The fact that Jevil is a jester but has an active refusal to make others laugh and simply lives for his own merriment and amusement compared to the fact Spamton canonically hates clowns and jesters yet has a burning desire to be loved and adored with/through the express purpose of catering to others.

So I made a hc/rant/character analysis on spamton a few weeks ago and after reading over Jevil’s wiki page I decided to make one for him🥳

Personality:

I see Jevil as a pretty childish person. He struggles to take things seriously and he always jokes around during serious situations, even before he lost grasp of himself. He also does things very impulsively. If it comes to mind, he’ll do it without a second thought. It usually ends up with somebody getting physically hurt.

Jevil isn’t a very emotional person. He doesn’t really understand that what he’s been through and his emotions mean so he doesn’t really feel sad about it. However while he is “free” he does feel very lonely and everything he’s been through finally hits him. He realizes that he’s screwed up. He’s upset for a while but then he realizes it doesn’t matter. Everything’s just a game. He can do whatever he wants. This also means he ignores his emotions sometimes and does things to his absolute limits.

Story:

I see Seam as more of a friend/parental figure towards Jevil. I see Seam a lot older than Jevil and a lot more responsible and caring. They’re able to keep Jevil out of as much trouble as possible. The both of them always enjoyed playing games together, while that either playing literal games, doing tricks using their powers or fighting each other (but never actually hurting eachother)

The two were very well known and successful as entertainers. They would always perform for the king and large crowds and they loved it. Seam would for example, “cut Jevil in half” like that one magic trick. Jevil would juggle different things Seam threw at him etc etc.

Eventually when one day Jevil met that someone it entirely changed his view of the world. Although before he was childish, impulsive, and could never take things seriously all of these qualities basically doubled. He would speak very fast and always repeat words, making it a tad hard to understand sometimes. Seam became worried as time went on until one day Jevil took things too far, probably hurting someone.

This broke out a fight between them, first with yelling, and ending violently. Both of them were very skilled fighters, however Jevil had Seam beat. After a long, bloody battle Jevil swung the Devilsknife and took out the button in Seam’s eye, worsening their sight in that eye. Finally Jevil snapped out of his insanity for a moment. He couldn’t believe what he had done. He didn’t know how to feel.

Before things got any worse he was locked away in the castle. While in prison, the loneliness only made him drift further and further into insanity. He realized that he was the only one truly free. He was the only one who knew that everything was truly just a game. He could do anything while in there.

Although he laughed everything off, as I stated he missed everyone. He missed his friends, he missed Seam. But although he didn’t want to admit it, he was scared to see them again. He knew what he did was awful.

so I’ve already said before what I think their relationship was before and after and how they met in my Spamton “analysis/headcanon” post. However I want to talk about what happened after they divorced.

While Jevil was in prison, he looked back on a lot of things, Spamton being one of them. They both really loved eachother. However when the both were driven into insanity, they couldn’t handle each other. Both of them weren’t themselves. Besides the two are actually pretty different if you think about it. For example, Spamton doesn’t feel in control. He’s a puppet. Jevil however is the opposite. He feels in control and that whatever he does, doesn’t matter. He can do whatever and it won’t affect anything.

Ok no more spamvil ☹️ seam time 🔥

As I said before I see seam as a parental figure towards Jevil. they took care of him and kept him safe. They were a great parent, however they couldn’t handle him after he met that person.

I don’t exactly know how Seam met Jevil but for a while Jevil helped Seam run their shop. Seam themself didn’t really have many friends, nor did they really want any. They liked being alone. However, they very much enjoyed Jevil’s company. He could really brighten seam’s day.

After all that shit happened, Jevil was fought and defeated, I feel like him and Seam reunited. Again, I haven’t really thought of how but maybe it would go along unexpectedly. Like Jevil could just be strolling around the kingdom and unexpectedly run into Seam’s shop. He didn’t really know what to do but he knew it would be best for him to just keep walking. He didn’t want to see what he had done to Seam, because he had blocked out as much of the memory as possible. However Seam did see Jevil outside.

Seam stepped out and called Jevil back. Jevil, for one of the first times ever, was scared. He looked Seam in the eyes and felt a wave of sadness and guilt. He saw the tear in Seam’s eye. The stitches holding together their fur. Unexpectedly, Seam was excited to see him. They hugged him and told Jevil how much they’d missed him. Jevil completely broke down, apologizing profusely for what he’d done. He cared about Seam more than anything. Seam had done so much for him. But Seam wasn’t mad. Seam realized what had happened to Jevil. They knew something had happened to make him that way

They hugged it out and stuff and they’re good now😸

the most insane fucking things happening to me i send an ask to some poor rando fool bc i like their pfp in my notes "hey what do u think about jevil". i have no idea it was bigshot fucking autos' main. he answers me privately and i say damn that analysis brother can u post this he goes yea course. about 4 hours later im staring at the doodle and i look at the way jevil's ears are drawn and i think oh my god. we talk until 7 in the morning on my end. he also thinks telltale batman joker is the best one bc he's just a guy. i wake up to my bestie sending me the coolest o'saa fanart. its from fucking mossea. mossea is an o'saa simp. my best friend is puppypuppypuppypuppy. one of my other friends might possibly get me into huecycle's candleholder dev team. if i can gather the courage to text mossea i will literally string together the most powerful spamvil artists like a kandi bracelet and create the singularity.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

Answering this one for Deltarune!

1. I'd love to see more of the 3 Kings (Diamond, Hearts and Clover). I'd love to see more of different Deltarune characters and NPCs in general! While the Addisonas can be a lot of fun, it would be nice if people tried their hands more on different OCs, like a Rudinn sona or just a totally new Darkner OC in general! Spamton gave people severe Spamton and Addison brainrot (and for good reason lmao), but it would be nice to see other characters from chapter 1 for example get more love!

2. Less Spamvil Divorce jokes and more analysis or fun scenarios on how they could actually work, whether that's as enemies, rivals, friends, lovers or all of the above! Because come on, there are so many more possibilities than just constant divorce jokes hngk, it's getting old! :'D

3. More fankids... Please... I feel so lonely in this.

4. I kind of would like to see more people develop fun AUs for fanchapters. While they are definitely around they're still surprisingly hard to come by at times and there's only like a handful of chapters that delved deeper into things that I can think of from the top of my head!

spamton having a knack for painting (the sunny sky in his storefront wall, the vandalized queen paintings in snowgrave) but never having the chance to actually invest his time on this hobby because he's too busy being obsessed with freedom fucks me up.

i headcanon he would lean towards fingerpainting techniques because it's something very intuitive and freestyle, plus some artists rely solely on their hands with the occasional tools (like a sponge lol) to achieve different textures. i think that's perfect for him and lets him have a healthy amount of control that is also very empowering. as a bonus, it makes him start liking his puppet hands, or at least seeing them as a tool for artistic purposes and not just making deals. i think that helps him build a lot of self-esteem and self-acceptance.

jevil has something similar i think. as said in a previous post, i believe jevil uses gloves not only due to the jester attire but also to avoid scaring people away with his claws aka his demonic features (we also don't see his horns at all). he's confident but still very self conscious about these aspects of himself because he's very lonely and doesn’t want to drive people away. jevil might also be a musical prodigy, performing is in his veins and he's naturally an artist who can put on a show anywhere. i think similarly to spamton he doesn't have many chances to do that in a genuine, non wicked way after getting jailed for god knows how long.

i really like these two finding themselves again using art as a way of self expression and enjoyment.

The Great Gig in the Sky is a pretty big Spamton song to me right now. The intense anger at the beginning, sort of like how he is jaded and impassioned to live and set things right with his own odd sense of right in wrong. It’s him fighting for the soul as NEO, refusing to give up and angry at the idea he should.

The ending, his downfall and the acceptance when he realizes this isn’t his story but this is his end. Letting himself become something different than he envisioned himself but still not just going out.

lmfao hell no, but if toby ever decides to tackle them again (i sure hope so), i can definitely see him either making them have a hilarious enemies dynamic (like jevil pranking spamton on the phone) or, less likely, a cartoony villain duo who kinda hate each other but still hang out together

i don't have any hopes at all for spamvil to be canon lol even though i'd love to see another mlm ship in the utdr universe, if toby decides to touch on their relationship post game i'm sure it would be something funny or wacky! i'd be happy either way. though the parallels are definitely intentional and it's clear how much thought went into these two and how they relate to each other (angel/demon, heaven/hell, hopes/dreams, acceptance/denial of freedom and nihilism, etc)
