Looking toward the future.
ao3 ff.net
I think I written this out of angry response to season 5...
Well, I hope someone enjoys this.
Anyway also slight trigger warning for abuse, nothing graphic but worth mentioning.
Enjoy!
~~~~~
Adrien wished he lived an everyday rich boy life.
A rich child's life where the worst thing to worry about was wasting time or not having the best money could possibly buy.
His life was turned upside down when he discovered his entire life was a lie. His father, Gabriel Agreste, one of the most important rich people in Paris, was Hawkmoth, who was terrorizing Paris all this time.
And all undying love Adrien had for his father turned into absolute hatred.
But life in Paris is better now. Gabriel Agreste, or Adrien felt Gabriel should just be called "Hawkmoth" now because he wanted to burn his father's legacy away from his family.
Hawkmoth was now locked in the biggest prison in the country, and Adrien still felt fire in his being. Even if it's been a few months since he and Marinette were freed from being forced to be Ladybug and Chat Noir. And Marinette resolved happily ever after with Luka.
And Adrien knew love still existed! Even with all the terrible things that happened, he fell in love with Kagami, and she resolved she would always be with him. And she was always there for him even if he couldn't be a smiley sunshine boy all the time. In fact, Adrien found he had to emotionally keep it together at times, and Kagami was there even if he needed to cry or someone to have fun with.
Not to mention, when Adrien found out his mother was comatose all this time, she came back to life, and it was nothing short of a miracle. And Hawk Bastard was arrogant enough that his wife would still love him unconditionally, only for her to be pissed and divorce him shortly after his arrest.
It was satisfying for Adrien to see his mother let that bastard go and for her to show him every day that she loved him more than the terrorist ex-husband.
And before anyone knew it, Emelie and Natalie fell in love. Both Adrien and Kagami were stunned but absolutely thrilled. Kagami mentioned it was something out of a beautiful fairy tale and that having two moms certainly has its benefits.
Having two moms meant two strong women doting on Adrien and much more relaxing girl nights. Having three beautiful, strong women in his life did so much for Adrien.
Life was getting better everywhere he turned, and everyone was happy. However, Adrien still had this pain inside him that he wished would diminish. And he knew having a girlfriend like Kagami couldn't fix everything. He couldn't expect her to fix everything.
When he held Kagami in his arms or when he tried to sleep and be at peace at night, he questioned how Kagami could even date the spawn of the demon.
Because he wasn't just Paris' golden boy anymore, he was the villain's son, and it was hard to live with that.
As the days went on, he couldn't face everyone, and even if Emelie and Natalie planned another party where Kagami was helping prepare, Adrien looked at her from a distance and gave her a sorrowful look, trying not to cry as he watched her looking so innocent.
"I'm sorry Kagami…"
And with that, Adrien ran from the manor without telling anyone. He walked the streets with his head down, and while many of the citizens of Paris turned their heads and felt bad for him, Adrien still walked alone.
He couldn't even see fathers and mothers with their children without feeling sick inside.
Deep down, Adrien wondered if he could become just like his father?
He couldn't stand that at all!
And that's why he ran away before spiraling down that dark path.
But when he got to the park, he heard some harsh words coming from the mouths of children. And a small boy was shrinking in fear as three rowdy boys harassed him.
Those children were being so mean and enjoyed watching that small boy cry.
And against Adrien's better judgment, his peridot eyes became more fierce, and he charged over toward those kids.
"Stop this right now!" Adrien cried.
The bullies turned to see Adrien looking absolutely livid. The little boy with dark hair continued to cry softly.
But when the boys saw Adrien angry and disapproving, they laughed as if it were comical.
"And what are you going to do about it, pretty boy?" One of the bullies cried.
Adrien took a step back and looked down. He knew he shouldn't do something he would regret, as angry as he was.
But he thought for a moment and then lifted his head up. The glare in his eyes was still so serious.
"You have no idea what I am capable of. I am the son of Gabriel Agreste!”
Suddenly, all three boys gasped, and one of them cried. "The monster of all of Paris!"
"Let's get out of here!" One of the other boys cried.
And the boys ran. But the leader of the bunch said one last thing that Adrien felt like shrugging off as he sighed to himself.
"The son of Gabriel would destroy that little weakling."
Adrien didn't care at this point. At least that boy was safe. Assuming that boy wasn't also intimidated. He walked closer to the boy gently, but the boy didn't seem scared of him; he was just surprised.
Adrien was a bit stunned. This boy was very handsome. Short, shiny black hair and beautiful green eyes. His eyes almost reminded him of his mother, and he had such an innocent look.
Even if he had just met this child, for some reason, he wanted to protect that innocence at all costs. Now Adrien felt the need to step back and awkwardly look away as he placed his hand behind his neck.
"Don't be afraid," Adrien said.
"I am the son of a terribly evil man, but I try my hardest every day to never become him for everyone I love," Adrien mumbled.
But to Adrien's surprise, the adorable little boy walked up to him and looked up at him, giving him a sympathetic look.
"I'm not afraid of you," the boy said simply.
Adrien held back a gasp. Such an innocent boy giving him an innocent response, Adrien got down on his knees so he could look the boy in the eye.
"What's your name, little man?" Adrien asked.
The boy looked down and awkwardly shuffled his feet before answering.
"...Aiden."
Adrien smiled and chuckled, thinking this boy was absolutely adorable.
"That's a great name," Adrien said.
Adrien took a moment to sit down and smile genuinely, and the boy followed suit by sitting on his knees timidly.
"You seem a bit troubled, little guy," Adrien tried his hardest to soften the mood.
Aiden looked like he was biting his tongue but eventually blurted out a confession.
"I'm looking for my twin sister!"
"Huh?" Adrien cried.
The boy looked distant, almost ashamed, as he looked away from Adrien.
"I lost my twin sister, and I thought I could go to my grandmother's house to find her!"
Adrien's heart was about to cave in on him, so he placed his hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Don't worry," Adrien beamed. "I'll get you to your grandmother's place, and you will be reunited with your sister!"
"Um…" The boy cried as the apprehension was full on his face.
But Adrien didn't notice as he picked the boy up and carried him on his back. The boy was stunned but tenderly held on to Adrien as Adrien pretended to be a train conductor.
"So…Where is your grandmother's place anyway, little man?"
Aiden said nothing and merely pointed west, and Adrien thought for a moment, thinking it was close to his family's manor, but then he dropped the thought.
"Alright then!" Adrien rejoiced. "Let's go!"
Aiden was in wide-eyed wonder. Citizens of Paris waved to Adrien and doted on him, thinking he was a charming older brother. Adrien didn't bother to correct them. But eventually, Adrien shoehorned another conversation while waiting for a walking streetlight.
"It must be nice having a twin sister and a grandmother," Adrien said.
"Mm-hmm," Aiden responded as the crossing light turned on and Adrien crossed the street.
"I also have an elder sister and brother," Aiden said.
Wow! Adrien thought. Having this many kids and being able to make them the happiest kids in the world sounded like fun.
"But…" Aiden paused.
Adrien stopped and took a moment to look back and give him a smile. "You can tell me anything, Aiden."
Aiden paused again, and Adrien kept walking on this expedition.
"I want to be like my father!" The little boy said.
Adrien felt his legs stop for a moment. The word "father" had the worst negative connotation in the world for him. But it wasn't this 6-year-old boy's fault that it triggered bad memories for him. Although Adrien couldn't lose the positive energy and help Aiden find his family.
"Just like your father?" Adrien asked.
"Yes…" Aiden said.
Adrien kept walking until he got close to the Agreste manor, where he felt foolish for running away from his moms and girlfriend.
Strangely, Aiden nuzzled against Adrien's back, and Adrien felt a strange warmth in him.
"Because Papa loves all of us. He makes funny jokes and always knows how to make Mama smile. He's a hero!" Aiden said.
Adrien was moved by Aiden's heartfelt words, but then he started to hear soft crying. Quickly, he placed Adrien down and then looked at him as the young boy tried to wipe away his tears.
"I'm sorry!" Aiden cried.
"Huh?" Adrien cried.
Adrien questioned if he could try to be a dad and make this boy laugh, but he felt helpless.
"I'm sorry for getting lost!" Aiden cried. "I'm not from here! I'm trapped in the past!"
Adrien was still terribly confused, but before he could place his hand on this boy's shoulder again, the boy sprinted in the other direction.
"Aiden!" Adrien cried as he ran after the boy. But Aiden was running through the crowd, and Adrien couldn't keep up.
He kept running and calling out the young boy's name, even if he barely knew this mysterious boy.
Even when Adrien started sweating, he looked inside a quiet alleyway. And just when Adrien thought he lost Aiden, he heard the sound of a little boy crying.
Adrien stopped as he saw Aiden cry on his knees.
"I…I just need to find my sister…" Aiden said between sobs.
But before Adrien could relax, a giant portal appeared, and Adrien tried to stay on his feet. Aiden was stunned as if a miracle appeared before him, and he tried to walk toward the portal.
"Aiden!!!" Cried the voice of a young girl.
"Kagura!!!" Aiden cried.
As Adrien looked from a distance, he saw a cute little girl with bob-cut hair come out of the portal, and the twins reunited in a strong embrace.
The concept of time travel wasn't new to Adrien. He was finally starting to piece together that Aiden mentioning he is trapped in the past wasn't just hyperbole. And Adrien felt his heart mend slightly over the sight of Aiden being reunited with his sister.
Still, he couldn't help but feel his twin sister looked awfully familiar.
Adrien knew this wasn't his moment, but he couldn't help but walk closer, and the twins were still busy holding each other close.
He had so many questions running through his mind, but then he noticed the portal reacting again.
"Great job Kagura, you found Aiden. Now Kaa-San and Tou-San will sleep well tonight."
A girl with blonde hair tied in twin tails appeared from the portal and noticed Adrien immediately.
Adrien immediately regretted getting involved, but this blonde-haired girl gave him such an amused look.
"I know this is super weird," the blonde-haired girl started. She took a step closer, and Adrien thought this was all too weird, even if he was a superhero who saw practically everything. "But seeing the great Adrien Agreste as a young boy is kind of cool." The blonde-haired girl giggled at Adrien's stunned expression.
"Go easy on him Erina. This is probably too much for him to take at once," said another voice. It sounded like a boy around Adrien's age, but he had a deeper voice.
The blonde-haired girl named Erina playfully rolled her eyes. "Well, he always likes to mess with us. I am just returning the favor."
Adrien thought he would have another almost heart attack seeing a boy, somewhere around his age and a bit taller than him, appearing from the portal. His expression was warm, as if nothing unusual were happening right now.
Adrien couldn't speak, and these two teenage children looked at him as if they had known him all his life. But then he looked down when he saw Aiden and Kagura walk up and look up at him with innocent eyes.
The two children blinked, and Adrien thought they were the most precious things in the world. Before Adrien could hug them both, they looked like they were dying to say something.
"We're sorry, Papa," Aiden said.
Adrien did a low gasp.
“Hai! We're so sorry Tou-San!” Kagura said.
"You guys are…" Adrien paused as Aiden and Kagura grinned up at their young father.
"And that means Kagami and I…" Adrien blushed at the thought.
"The most obnoxious married couple in the world!" Erina exclaimed. "Right next to Aunt Marinette and Uncle Luka!"
Adrien didn't find that too hard to believe. It made his heart skip a few beats. The future was certainly full of surprises.
The oldest boy stepped closer to his younger father and smiled. "But you and Kaa-San raised us so well. Even if Erina gets grounded a lot."
"Masa!" Erina cried.
Adrien thought that was witty, but he couldn't help but notice his future oldest son was probably 15 years old. Even Adrien was 15 years old!
"Whoa…" Adrien was about to die from envy that his son was more handsome than him. He clearly got it from his beautiful mother.
Masa bowed to Adrien a bit too formally. “My name is Masamori Tsurugi-Agreste.” He lifted his head up and smiled and winked at his young father. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
So Adrien liked all the names of his future children. But he hastily gestured to his polite, mature son.
"You don't have to be so formal Masa…" Adrien said.
Masamori grinned. "I just thought I'd make this less awkward."
The young boy looked back at the portal. "Besides, we can't stay here too long, so we should ensure this departure is pleasant."
For some reason, Adrien thought his heart would break. But Aiden and Kagura both cried in protest.
"Do we have to go Elder Brother?" Kagura cried.
Masamori gave a sad smile to his younger siblings. "I'm afraid so Kagura."
"No!" Kagura and Aiden cried.
Both children were close to crying as Adrien knelt down and held them in his arms. He told them multiple times that it would all be okay, but the twins only hugged their father tighter.
"We have to tell Tou-San everything will be okay," Erina said.
Everyone looked at Erina, who walked up to her father. Masamori alluded that she was a bit of a wild child, but at this moment, she seemed sincere as she smiled at Adrien.
"Because we know Tou-San is afraid of being like grandfather," Erina said.
Masamori chuckled with his hand over his lips. "Tou-San could barely beat Aunt Marinette in tae kwon do, much less terrorize all of Paris."
Adrien wasn't sure whether to laugh at that.
"See?" Erina beamed. "Everything will be fine in the future! We're living proof, but we need to head back soon."
Even the two innocent twins knew and quickly hugged Adrien one last time as Adrien safely wrapped his arms around them.
"We love you Tou-San!" Kagura cried as she couldn't stop the tears. She kissed her father multiple times on the cheek, which felt like a bandage to Adrien's heart. He set his two future children down safely.
"You're a beautiful young lady, Kagura, just like your mother," Adrien said as he beamed with pride. "Keep on setting a good example."
"Hai Tou-San!" Kagura cried as her eyes sparkled.
"And Aiden," Adrien got down on one knee and smiled proudly. "Be a good young man for your mother."
Aiden nodded. "Hai Tou-San!"
And Kagura and Aiden ran off with confidence.
"The portal is about to close! Please be quick, you two!" Masamori said.
The twins stopped at the portal and smiled before waving at Adrien.
"Bye, Papa!" The twins cried in unison before they ran into the portal.
Adrien waved and couldn't help a small tear coming from his eye.
Masamori and Erina smiled warmly as they took a moment to be alone with their younger father. Adrien felt even more tears well up.
"It's going to be okay, father; just keep being strong," Masamori said.
Adrien stepped forward and put his hands on his future son's shoulders. "I know it will be with children like you." And Masamori pulled his father in for a hug. But then Adrien felt a stirring inside of him.
"But still…" Adrien said.
Masamori gently pulled away, and he and his younger sister headed back to the time portal. Adrien felt his heart breaking, saying goodbye to those bright faces.
"Please don't go, I love you!" Adrien cried.
Masamori had some tears brimming from his eyes as he smiled and went through the portal. But Erina stopped momentarily and placed her hand on her hip as she ran back to her father and gave him the biggest reassuring smile.
"It's okay Papa! You have Mama and our grandmothers. We will see you in the future, and it will be amazing!"
Adrien wiped tears as he finally felt at ease and smiled at his daughter.
"And maybe I will remember to cause less damage in the future…Maybe…” Erina said slyly.
Adrien shot his daughter a sly look in response. "Don't cause too much trouble for your mother, Erina."
Erina merely winked at her father, but then Adrien saw the portal react and knew Erina's time in the present was limited. But Erina's smile didn't waver, and she walked up to her father and kissed him on the cheek before making haste for the portal.
"I will see you later, Daddy! I love you so much!"
When Erina entered the portal, the portal disappeared with a flash, and Adrien was left to process the future that awaited him. He wanted a sign that everything would work out for a problem child like himself, but this was a miracle. It was something to look forward to. Adrien would continue to make the future beautiful because his past and father would never define him.
And then he remembered…
"Oh my god! Kagami!"
Adrien ran out of the alleyway, and everyone in Paris was stunned to see rich boy Adrien Agreste run like a maniac back to the manor.
~~~~~
When Adrien made his way through the party, he saw things going off without a hitch. His moms, Kagami, and the staff outdid themselves. But he saw so many party guests enjoying themselves and not a single sign of Kagami. Adrien smiled sheepishly and waved at the guests who said hello, but he was too focused on finding his girlfriend.
He walked into the quiet area in the garden and finally found room to breathe, but he still couldn't find her.
"Kagami, where are you?"
Adrien was about to go through the worst-case scenario that he did manage to push her away before it was too late.
"Adrien?"
Adrien turned, and Kagami was wide-eyed. She leaned against the wall where the sunlight hit her as if she also needed some breathing space.
"Kagami!"
Kagami looked so concerned, and Adrien felt guilt for making her worry. But before Kagami could ask questions, Adrien eagerly ran up and wrapped his arms around her. Kagami was left speechless, and then she gave a pleased hum as she hugged him back before stroking his back tenderly.
"Adrien, where were you? Are you alright?"
Adrien held her closer and nuzzled her shoulder before breathing.
"Yes! Everything is fine now Kagami! Everything is going to be okay!" Adrien said as tears streamed down his eyes.
Kagami found it slightly hard to believe because Adrien cried more passionately than she had ever seen him.
"I love you so much Kagami! And I didn't mean to worry you!"
"Adrien…" Kagami's cheeks glowed rose red as she moved her lips closer to brush against his neck. "I love you too," she whispered.
Adrien pulled away momentarily and gave her such a warm look, even if his eyes were still stained in tears. But Kagami smiled back and nearly started crying herself as she wiped away his tears with her hands.
They pulled each other in for a passionate, long kiss, and Kagami felt it was perfect. It was so quiet, and she savored every moment of Adrien's sweet lips. Thankfully, no one at the party interrupted them. If they did, she would never forgive them.
~~~~~
Adrien started to feel more jovial as the party went on. He held Kagami's hand tenderly and smiled as all the party members were so kind to them. Adrien started feeling like the regular head of the household, grateful that all their beloved guests were enjoying the party. He was still iffy about questions about becoming the head of the family when he became an adult, but Kagami held his arm tenderly and smiled up at him with the undying belief that he was born for this role. Adrien was so lucky to have a girlfriend like her by his side.
But when Adrien and Kagami finally had a moment alone, Kagami seemed to have reached an epiphany as she smiled up at the handsome blonde-haired boy.
"You know, for some reason, I am very excited for the future," Kagami said.
Adrien grinned. "It will be an exciting future! I know it!"
Kagami responded with a crooked smile, taken aback that Adrien started to act like his sunshiney self again. She knew all this was hard for him, and sometimes she wanted to hit Gabriel Agreste multiple times with a sword. But she needed to stay composed and know that she and Adrien could rest easy knowing that the monster was in prison.
"Oh, I forgot something!" Adrien cried. "A gift!"
Kagami realized that Adrien certainly was himself again, with charming wit and surprises.
"Adrien, this isn't a birthday party…"
Adrien smiled and placed his hands on her shoulders. "I don't care!" He gently turned her around. "Just a moment!"
Kagami giggled, then gasped as she saw Adrien wrap a necklace around her neck and secure it. She placed her hand over her chest and then unclasped her hand to reveal a golden heart-shaped locket.
Kagami was in awe and wanted to cherish the heart-shaped locket Adrien gave her, and she felt warm as Adrien hugged her from behind.
"You know, if I had my way, every party would involve sentimental gifts to people I love," Adrien said.
"Oh Adrien, you are a gift yourself!" Kagami beamed.
At a distance, Emelie and Natalie linked arms as they chatted and laughed with the guests.
But Emelie took a moment to look around. She saw Adrien and Kagami looking so happy in the distance, and eventually, Natalie saw as well. Emelie took a moment to wipe a small tear from her eye, and Natalie noticed and helped soothe her wife.
"I'm just so happy my son found someone perfect for him," Emelie said. "After everything he has been through."
Natalie smiled proudly. "I'm happy I found someone perfect for me too." She blushed. "After realizing how terrible obsessive love can be and how it can bring the worst out of someone."
Emelie's eyes gleamed, and she took a moment to rest her head on Natalie's chest. Natalie wrapped her arm around Emelie's small frame while stroking her back and golden hair.
"Well, I adore you," Emelie whispered. "All the little details that make you the most extraordinary woman in the world."
Unable to resist any longer, the wives moved in for a gentle kiss, and their friends, who noticed their romantic display, were in awe.
Little did they know Adrien and Kagami walked hand in hand and smiled in approval, seeing the lovely ladies in love.
Adrien shrugged bashfully, and Kagami brimmed with happiness.
"Moms, am I right?" Adrien said.
"They certainly know how to run a business right," Kagami said.
~~~~~
In the quiet evening, Kagami walked through the manor, but she stopped as she passed the office that Emelie was in. Emilie smiled as she saw Kagami walk by, which made Kagami blush.
"Oh Kagami can you please come in for a moment chere?"
Kagami's heart beat faster, and she walked into the office as if she received an order from a queen. "Yes Madam!"
When Kagami walked in, she pressed her feet together and stood tall but felt bashful. Emelie gestured to her to sit in one of the soft seats.
"I'm happy to see you are doing well Kagami," Emelie said.
Kagami hugged herself. "Thank you, Madam." She was happy to have her amazing boyfriend and his moms doting on her, but she was lucky enough to keep herself together due to her home life with her mother. Another reason for Adrien to hold her close and make her feel safe.
"You can call me Emelie, Kagami; you don't need to be so formal dear."
Kagami pondered for a moment. “Emelie-San…”
Emelie took a moment to giggle with her hand over her lips, and Kagami felt that it was beautiful, just like her boyfriend.
"Well, I wanted to ask…" Emelie looked down while keeping a strong smile.
"Yes?" Kagami cried as she shifted in the seat.
Emelie placed her hand on her heart. "I wanted to ask you to always take care of Adrien."
And as if a spark ignited in Kagami's head, she sprung from the seat. "Of course Emelie-San!"
Kagami bowed in front of Emelie, and Emelie felt so relieved.
"I will always stand by Adrien," Kagami said.
Of course, Kagami could only be so strong, and as the days went by, Adrien noticed more and more of the iron hold Tomoe had on Kagami. How such a strong young girl could be destroyed mentally.
Adrien could only see so much of Kagami being broken by her abusive mother and hugged her close while whispering multiple sweet nothings to soothe her. Still, he also had his own vow to make.
"I will protect you, Kagami," Adrien whispered.

Miraculous Flash Forward Part 5: Return to Paris
A Miraculous Fan-Fic
Written by
AJ Dunn
Adrien pulled his coat on tight around his shoulders. It was a freezing winter night as he made his way back home. He avoided the urge to transform, though it would be quicker to scale the roof tops than trying to walk. It wasn’t the best idea for the tiny Kwami who was already feeling a chill. Now that Fu is gone, there was no one to heal the Kwami if he got sick. It’s not like there was a listing for guardians.
The metro had already stopped running for the night but Adrien made his way home. Plagg didn’t waste any time flying off to sit on the heater to warm himself. Adrien pulled the Manchego from the grocery bag he was carrying and broke off a large chunk then tossed it into the air. Like magic, it disappeared into the Kwami’s mouth. Adrien tore up the package that came today It was a fleece Ladybug footed onesie with a zipper up the front.
“It’s here Plagg.” Adrien beamed. He had created a fake social media account and used it to message Marinette. He was surprised that she responded happily to his request for the commission of a onesie. He wanted to feel close to her again, but he couldn’t let her know it was him. He stripped down right in the seating area and slipped the fuzzy thing on. It fit perfectly. He kicked the box to the side but realized there was something else in it. He moved the tissue paper to the side and found a fleece black garment folded up. It had the red trimming same as her costume design. He pulled it out and found it was a Cat Noir footed onesie with a hood and ears. The feet even had paw prints on the bottom.
OH Plagg.” he called holding the onesie up. “Look what I got.” waved the onesie around like a child on Christmas. A holiday he’s not had the pleasure of really celebrated since his mom went into a coma. Even while living with Amelie he had avoided it as a sad reminder of his parents.
“Think you dropped this.” Plagg picked up a piece of paper. It was a pink polka dot stationery folded in half. He opened it up and read the note tossing the Cat onesie over his shoulder.
“There is no Ladybug, without her Cat Noir”
It was a simple statement, but it brought Adrien to tears. He dropped heavily onto the couch letting the letter fall from his hands.
“You know.” Plagg started. “It’s only 5 months until the 5-year reunion. Will you go?”
“At this point, I doubt they would want me to come.” Adrien surrendered to stood up and headed for bed. Adrien’s phone dinged a new notification as he laid silently on his bed. He picked it up. It was another post on Alya’s Lady blog.
“It’s 5 months away from the 5 year anniversary of the defeat of Hawk Moth. Now that Paris has finally begun to heal from the pain caused by this villain, the citizens have been asking if our saviors would come together for a celebration. So I managed to rope Ladybug herself into an interview.” The camera zoomed at showing Alya sitting in a room with two armchairs and a simple round table between them. Ladybug sat next to her.
“Thank you for coming Ladybug.”
“Thank you for having me.” Ladybug smiled. She was so beautiful. Her midnight hair had grown out and was no longer in her customary pigtails.
“First of all, the defeat of Hawk Moth was quite the feat.”
“That is an understatement.” her serious face looked from Alya to the camera and back.
“How well do you think the people of Paris have recovered from it? Do you think they are ready for a celebration like this?”
“I think some of us still suffer certain losses even in the wake of Hawk Moths final attack.” Ladybug was looking at the screen now.
“Are you referring to the disappearance of Cat Noir?” Ladybug closed her eyes and drew a fist to her chest.
“There is no Ladybug without Cat Noir.” She said looking into the camera again. “Where ever you are if you are watching. Cat it’s time to come home.” tears jerked at his heart as he tossed his phone down on the bed and walked to the railing overlooking at his seating area.
“Stayed tuned for an interview with Marinette, the class president of the class who graduated during the final attack of Hawk Moth.” Adrien turned around and found Plagg holding the phone watching the blog.
“Must you watch that?” Adrien asked irritated.
‘What’s wrong, afraid you’ll lose the battle and get on a place?” Plagg egged him on. Adrien shook his head and turned back to his bed. He took the phone and went downstairs. Plagg turned the TV on and Adrien mirrored the phone to it. Suddenly there was Marinette on the big screen. He was wearing a cute dress, a black coated top with a flared pink Polka dot skirt. She did love her polka dots. There was a little black kitten embroidered into the skirt batting at, a ladybug?
“Is that…” Adrien said looking closer at her skirt.
“An ode to Ladybug and Cat Noir?” Plagg finished. “I think it is.”
“Marinette, it’s been nearly 5 years since your class graduation was interrupted by the final attack of Hawk Moth, how do you think your classmates are fairing today?”
“I can’t speak for all of them, but those who I have been in contact with are really looking forward to it. In fact, they are excited and hopeful to see each other again, and the superheroes that saved us.”
“After 5 years it’s no surprised that we have lost contact with some of our classmates, so how many have you spoken with?”
“All, but one.” the downcast look on her face spoke to her heart’s disposition regarding Adrien’s disappearance. “After that past four years, and all the searching on the internet, they have been no sign of our missing classmate. If you or anyone who know have any idea where our beloved friend has gone, please, let him know we are his family and we miss him.” Adrien turned the television off and went to bed.
The closer it came to the reunion the more his phone alerted him to updates of Marinette and Alya preparing for the festivities. Marinette had always given her entire self to her friends, helping them, and picnics, how could Adrien have not seen what a true superhero she was and she didn’t even need a mask.
Adrien picked up his mail in the mailroom then headed out to the school. It was spring now, and only a week away from the reunion. He noticed a thick envelope with a card inside. He opened it as he sat on the metro. It was an invitation to the reunion. Addressed to him. He checked the address and noticed a label had been placed on top of the original label. Thanks, Amelie. Or Emelie. They were both now living together, though Adrien hadn’t spoken with either. Emelie was still incoherent though conscious and living at the manor with Amelie. Adrien looked over the card again and noticed a finally written note in the corner of the card.
“I’m still waiting for your answer.” He knew Marinette’s handwriting all too well. He smiled as his heart warmed at the message.
“I will go,” he said out loud, hoping only Plagg heard him from his pocket. Adrien had a lot of arrangements to make if he was to go. He had grounds to maintain. He would need to put someone else in charge of these tasks. Adrien wasn’t sure how long he would stay, but he would start with a week just in case. He was surprised to find someone was at the temple when he arrived. An older man was cleaning up the grounds as Adrien walked up.
“Laoshi Mao?” the man asked. “I am Orisuma.”
“I thank you for your hard work, what brings you?” Adrien asked.
“I had been noticing you doing all this work on your own. Such a hard working young man” Orisuma offered. “I have been released from my job and have nothing to do during the day.” Adrien smiled.
“You have come at the right time.” Adrien motioned for the man to follow him. He keyed open the temple and the two walked inside.
“I have to go away for a few days, and I was just thinking to myself this morning how I need someone to tend to the grounds until I return.” Adrien walked him and around showing him all of the tasks he had to carry out every day and the onles that only needed to be done weekly. Since classes were still on hold for another couple weeks due to the mourning of Cheng Sifu, there wasn’t laundry. Many of the students left their yi-fu here.
“I would be happy to provide this survice to you, if you will allow me to continue when you return.” Adrien smiled at him.
“I would be honored to have your aid.” Feeling at ease and knowing he had nothing else to do for the day he returned home to prepare for his trip. His excited and nerves argued in his stomach as he arranged his flight, and packed his bags.
“Felix,” He said on the phone as his cousin answered. “I’ll be on a plane this evening for Paris.” A silence on the other side of the phone told him Felix was surprised.
“Wow, what brought this on?” Felix must be so busy with work that he hasn’t been following the buzz.
“The reunion is this Saturday, and I have been invited.”
“Are you finally ready to face them?”
“I am not sure, but what better time to do so.” Adrien gulped trying to not lose his nerve.
“Well, are there any arrangements you would like me to make on my end?”
“Just see that my room is ready.”
“You plan to...stay there.” the hesitation in Felix’s voice reverberated Adrien’s own hesitation.
“It makes sense.” Adrien tried to justify it, rather then getting a motel. “People would ask to many questions why the Heir to Agreste manor stays in a hotel instead of his own home.”
“I see your point.”
“Besides, it’s been 5 years, you’d think a man would have gotten over such a thing by now.” He wasn’t sure he was quite yet, but the prospect of finding out, while it made him wince in emotional pain, it also lightened his heart to the prospect of finally finding out who the love of his life was. His Lady.
“Pick me up at the airport.” Adrien said before they ended the call. Adrien checked the refrigerator for anything that would spoil while he was gone. Aside from cheese which would sustain, he had very little else. His evening meal was still made with Cheng Sifu. Ah, he remembered. He picked up his phone and called him.
“I will be going back to Paris for a week, so I won’t be coming in.” He heard Cheng make some sound on the other end of the line, it sounded like a cheer.
“You say hello to my nieces for me while you are there.” Another cheer came from the other end of the line. “Before you go, I would like to send them a treat if you don’t mind picking it up.” Adrien agreed and hung up the phone.
The box was larger than Adrien had expected, but not to large to fit in the back seat of his cab. Luckily he only carried one suitcase and a carry on bag. Mostly for the snacks Plagg would eat on the plane. It was a good thing Kwami’s couldn’t be seen or heard through technology. Otherwise there would be some explaining to do at airport security. He checked the box and suit case then found a seat at the boarding gate to wait for his boarding call. He had a while to wait as he had been in a hurry to get their that he arrived an hour early. Sitting in a nearly empty waiting area where no one else could see him he pulled out his phone holding it up to his head as he pretended to be on the phone.
“Who do you think I should visit first.” he asked Plagg as he used the voice to cover the secret conversation.
“I’d visit the Bakery first, they have amazing snacks and or Leons Cheese store for some yummy Camembert.” Plagg was more excited than anything at the prospect of the snacks.
“I can’t go to the bakery first” Adrien gupled. “What if Marinette is there?”
“She said she wants you to come home.” Plagg reminded him.
“She wants answers, and I doubt my answer will be good enough, Plagg I ran away like a child.”
“Well, you were in a very unique situation Adrien. No one would blame you for reacting like that.” Plagg was just happy to be going home. “You told Felix to stock up on cheese right.”
“I think we can handle that on our own, we don’t need someone else doing everything for us anymore.” Adrien had made himself into an independent man. He didn’t want someone preparing his meals for him, or buying his clothes. That was Adrien Agreste and he wasn’t that man anymore.
“I know the first person I want to see, and I know exactly how to ask her for forgiveness.” Adrien had been following the news in Paris and keeping up with everyone from a distance. It was Ladybug and Marinette he owed the most too, and he would start with Ladybug.
Adrien shoved the box into the back seat of Felix’s car then the suit case. He climbed into the front seat. His hood was still pulled over his head hiding his face. A common thing while he was in public.
“Will be we making a formal announcement at any time.” Felix asked.
“Is that wise?”
“You will be attending your high school reunion. And no matter what I say, I can’t erase Adrien Agreste or take away their memory of you.” Felix had played off to the press that he was the face of the Agreste brand saying that there was no Adrien Agreste. It wasn’t a lie, Adrien Agreste no longer existed but that was only to give him the privacy to recovery form what his father had done to this city. The Graham De Vanily Brand was a refreshing new start for the former Agreste brand and they needed to make sure no scandals rose up to destroy that image.
“Transperency is important here. If the media got wind of a secret like this, say, you showing up to a high school reunion, it could be bad for the company’s image.”
“Can it wait until Saturday. I have some sleuthing to do without a bunch of people showing up.” Adrien asked. His stomach began to tie in knots at the thought of Nino showing up on his door, or even worse, Alya. That girl could be scary at times, and he knew Marinette would have told him about the last conversation they had. He couldn’t bear it.
“Fine.” Felix huffed. “I will contact Marinette to arrange a formal announcement at the reunion, so you can make your return public and televised.” His face burned at the thought of such a public re-entrance as his heart skipped a beat.
“If you insist.” He forced a smile as they pulled through the gates of the Agreste Manor. The insignia on the gate as well as all over the house spoke to Gabriel as the symbol was a G inside of a circle.
“I wish we could change that.” Adrien said.
“As long as Emelie lives, we can’t the house is hers.” Adrien didn’t know if that made it any better.
“She can have it.” Adrien thought. “I think I am happy in Shanghai.”
“What if things work out with you and…” Felix stopped the car infront of the entrance. “Marinette?”
“What makes you think I even have a chance with her after all these years?” Adrien looked at him. “You said yourself she stopped asking about me awhile ago.”
“Ask the same question and get the same answer too many times, people tend to stop asking.” Felix was right. Adrien pulled his suit case out of the back seat then leaned into the open window.
“Would you mind taking that to Tom and Sabine’s bakery, it’s a gift from Sabine’s uncle.”
“Shall I tell them you brought it for them?” Felix gave a mischievous smile then pulled away without an answer.
“Please don’t.” Adrien said to himself as he watched Felix drive away. He carried his bacg into the house hoping no one saw him. Felix had even excused the staff for the entire week as Adrien had requested. If Emelie never recovered, this house would become his officially, even though she was a year away from being declared dead before she was found in the basement of the manor. His bedroom was the same as the last time he had been in it. It had been cleaned but everything else was still the same. Including the fact that there were clothes still in the closets. He had bever been ablet to even pack his stuff.
“I don’t think any of it will fit anymore.” Plagg laughed then flew to his cheese fridge. It was a small fridge and was now empty. Plagg sighed in sadness.
“Shall we head out to Leons?” Adrien asked him. Adrien walked to the car garage. There were sever cars in their. He opened the lock box by the entry door and fished for a set of keys, there were three cars in their a tiny black coup, a silver sadan, and a black sadan. He picked up a set of keys and clicked the key fob to unlock the doors. The lights on the black sadan lit up. He clicked the lock but and put them back. Another key fob lit up the lights on the coup. He smiled then climbed inside. He had never driven this car. He had only ever been allowed to drive the silver one, but generally he always had his body guard drive him around.
He had a little bit of shopping to do so he started with Leon’s cheese store, then went to the market to get the supplies for dinner. He intended this to be a picnic unlike anything she has ever had before.

PART 8!
Nino and Alya stared at Adrien for a solid minute and the engagement ring on his finger. Finally it was Nino that broke out of the trance first.
Nino: ok...what the hell did we miss?
Adrien informed them what transpired with Chloe and Marinette.
Nino: let me get this straight. i invite the girl you are crushing on to your party so you can make up and you end up engaged to the girl you despise?
Adrien: yeah pretty much
Nino: i’m going to kill you
Adrien: marrying her will break my curse
Nino: if you wanted a quickie marriage to break the curse then why not just ask Marinette again? i know it didn’t work out the first time but if the curse--
Alya: um, babe, i never told you did i?
Nino: told me what?
Alya: guys, Marinette isn’t a blue blood
Adrien: come again?
Alya took Nino and Adrien outside where it was quieter to explain the situation. Marinette Cheng, heiress and descendant of the Qing dynasty wasn’t real. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, daughter of local bakers and struggling to make rent fashion design student was real. Chloe and Alya, had hired Marinette to sneak in under an alias and get a picture of Adrien using a live video camera hidden in the ladybug brooch she always wore to the dates.
It all finally clicked into place. Why Marinette worked at a bakery. Why she had always seemed so down to earth on their dates. Why she had said no to his proposal.
Adrien: she could never break my curse...that’s why she said no...
Alya: i’m sorry for all of this. i should have never gone chasing after what my mom let go. it only ended up hurting people
Adrien: i gotta go. i’ll talk to you guys later
With that Adrien wandered away from the bar and out into the night. All night he paced the city thinking over what Alya had told him. He twisted the ring on his finger with a sigh. He could always marry Chloe and get the curse broken then go talk to Marinette.
He ran a hand over the scarf wrapped around his neck. Or he could say fuck it and call off the engagement before Chloe had a chance to tell anyone. He could find Marinette and talk this through. If what Alya said was true then she really didn’t care about his nose or his ears or the curse. She liked him. She liked the person he was and not what his appearance made him seem.
But then his thoughts bounced back to his parents. They had done everything in their power to shield him from a world that could have reacted horribly to him. They had changed their entire lives to keep him a secret. Spent a small fortune searching for a way to break his curse. If he had a way to make all that they had done worth it shouldn’t he take it?
Besides, what Chloe said was right. After the curse was broken they could just get divorced and then it wouldn’t matter. Unless of course the curse had some failsafe none of his family knew about that would regrow the snout and floppy ears the second the marriage was over. What if he got married, the curse broke, they divorced and it came back? What if the marriage had to be permanent?
This was all getting to be too much.
As the sun started to rise over the city Adrien finally started to make his way back to his apartment. It wasn’t anything special. A little nicer than what he would have been able to afford if it wasn’t for the fact his parents were giving him access to a small allowance to help with his living expenses.
He had just entered his bedroom and flopped onto the bed when his phone started going off. Nope! He turned it off and went to sleep. When he woke up it was well past noon. The shop was closed today so he didn’t need to worry about being late to work at least.
He glanced down at the ring still on his finger with a small grimace. He still needed to decide what he was going to do about that. He had two few options but neither came without down sides.
Option 1: Marry Chloe, break the curse, divorce, risk curse coming back and being married to Chloe permanently
Option 2: Call off the engagement, try to make up with Marinette, live forever with a pig face and disappoint his parents
Adrien went to his phone and turned it back on. Immediately his phone was flooded with notifications of unread texts and missed calls. This couldn’t be good.
The most seemed to be from his parents so he called his mom first.
Emelie: hello sweetheart!
Adrien: hey mom, what is going on? my phone is blowing up
Emelie: sorry about that but we couldn’t get through and we were just so excited
Adrien’s stomach sank.
Adrien: excited about what?
Emelie: your engagement to Chloe! it’s all over the news!
FUCK!
His dad’s voice came over the phone this time.
Gabriel: Adrien, son, so proud of you for doing the right thing! don’t worry about planning, your mother and i are taking care of all of it.
Adrien: mom, dad, just hold on a second--
Emelie: and as for a ring for Chloe don’t worry I already went to the jeweler and found a perfect one. you can give it to her at the engagement party this weekend
Adrien: it hasn’t even been 24 hours! can we slow down for a moment? how have you two been able to plan all this in such a short time?
Gabriel: Adrien, we’ve been preparing for this day for over eighteen years. if at all possible we would have had a ceremony ready for tonight
Adrien: you guys sure do want me to marry Chloe that much huh?
Emelie: yes! the curse will be broken and you’ll finally be able to lead a normal life! it’s what we’ve always dreamed of
Adrien: right...what you always wanted. a nice normal life with a nice normal son.
Emelie: sweetheart, is something wrong? you don’t sound happy. this nightmare if finally going to end
Adrien: i am happy mom. really happy.
Gabriel: goodness Emelie, the poor idiot is probably hungover from partying last night. let him rest and when he’s sobered up he’ll sound a lot better
Adrien wished he was hungover right now. It’d be a better reason for the pounding in his head.
