Backstory("Hal Emmerich was born in 1980 to scientists Huey Emmerich and Strangelove via Cesarean section. Huey was a big fan of science fiction movies, specially the HAL 9000 computer featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey, as a result of the film getting himself and Strangelove closer.

Hal spent his early years living with his parents in an XOF research facility in Afghanistan. He ended up being considered by his father for use as a test subject for Metal Gear Sahelanthropus, as its cockpit was so small that only a child could pilot it. This resulted in a huge falling out between Hal's parents. Strangelove vehemently disagreed with Huey's proposition. 

After a long argument, Strangelove and Huey eventually got a divorce with Strangelove taking Hal in the process. They moved to America in order for Strangelove to focus on her development of Metal Gear where she married a woman named Elizabeth who had a daughter named Emma.

Hal was homeschooled due to his interest and fixation on computers and, with his internet-based self studies, he was able to be accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned his PhD at a young age. After attending MIT, he attended Princeton University where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. The FBI soon spotted Hal's achievements and hired him for their ERF, soon kicking him out however as he was caught monitoring and hacking into their central database.

Eventually, Hal was hired by the defense contractor ArmsTech. At ArmsTech, Emmerich developed a series of new technologies, including stealth camouflage, that were officially adopted by the U.S. Army. Following this, he became the lead engineer for the Metal Gear REX project. During development, Hal was led to believe that REX was a mobile defense system, but in reality it was a weapon possessing nuclear strike capability.")}]

oh my god okay i think since like. 2012...? i forgot the url of my first ever blog so i can't confirm, it might've been like december 2011, but definitely since 2012. so about 12 years ! i initially got into it via ask blogs which ykno. were all the rage back then. so that was my first roleplay... foray ig ?? i don't think i made a real roleplay blog until later, which was for a pokémon self insert oc of all things, but i'm prrrretty sure i deleted the blog years ago so i can't verify that, BUT i'm fairly sure because my initial ask blogs were pokémon themed.

so yeah ^-^ tldr about twelve years or so, and i got into it via pokémon ask blogs !

oh god. um. i genuinely think raikov is at the top of the list. writing him usually comes super easily to me, and that's not something i've experienced in a LONG time. it's genuinely such a fun experience to write him and i love the followers and friends i've gained from it. i really like the lore i've built for him and the intricacies i'm slowly weaving into his character. he's so silly and i care him very bad and i want to write him for a long time <3 um. let me look at my list

OH MY GOD YES tiff tannen from back to the future. like raikov she basically existed as a joke / throwaway line until she showed up in the comics, and i took that bitch and put everything i had into her. there's some shit i handled poorly and some stuff i'd change, but that community was so chill and she holds a special place in my heart. i might revive her blog one day. OH YEAH and if you google tiff tannen my rp blog still shows up on the first page

um. im gen not sure who else. i don't remember a lot of my time writing other muses. probably like some of my historical muses, or. yeah i cant remember. maybe my fnaf oc because that was the first time i got fanart of an oc and i felt like the gods themselves had bestowed it upon me

chernobyl hbo is my favourite show ever of all time and it is the best show ever of all time factually contractually legally clinically and undisputably. i genuinely love every single facet of that show. it's what inspired me to get into researching nuclear radiation and that's what eventually led me to meet my partner ! i love that show so much it changed my life literally. i cried so hard. if you haven't watched it please do so on your platform of choice ( legal or no ) because it's genuinely amazing

neon genesis evangelion is probably one of my favourite shows ever of all time too, it hit so close to home and i'm obsessed with it. and even though none of the characters canonically have personality disorders, i find asuka and shinji to be super good representations of hpd and avpd respectively, which is great because you usually never see those anywhere ! it's so good. i also loved serial experiments lain but it hit too close to home in a way that i never want to watch it ever again because i think it will do irreparable damage to my psyche. but i really enjoyed it !

OTHERWISE i'm actually not much of a... show girlie. i like friday night dinner though i literally forgot it existed until my beloved mentioned it right now. um. most of the stuff i watch is like hell's kitchen, four in a bed, don't tell the bride, that type of shit because i'm apparently 47 years old. i have been watching dorohedoro, chainsaw man, and spy x family with my partner though !

Hideo from Metal Gear would have a Ryu Number of 3. Hideo appears alongside Naked Snake/Big Boss in Peace Walker. Boss appears with Solid Snake in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (his appearance in MG1 would be complicated). Solid Snake appears in Smash Ultimate.

Alternately, if we take the ramblings throughout the series that Kojima is God and assume Hideo is in fact Hideo Kojima and therefore God, we can potentially shorten it to 2 through the Voice of God appearing in MGS4 and just go directly through Otacon thanks to the codec calls.

There is arguably another possible, also spurious route of 2 you can get through the Solid Snake "uniform" in Metal Gear Solid V.

The wording of "A costume for roleplaying as Solid Snake" is dubious enough to raise a few questions, like what exactly is meant by "roleplaying", who is doing the roleplaying, how much to look into the fact that it's referred to as a costume when it's at least evocative of a model swap with the PS1 Solid Snake character model, so, you know,

Now it was really happening, and Otacon had lost all of the terror-driven brain fog that had been insulating him against how this would make him feel. Snake was looking down at him like he was attractive, like he was worth looking at. It was strange; had anyone ever looked at him that way? For Julie, he was a means to an end, but this… Lifting his legs at the knees, Otacon tried his very best to appear composed, but it was in vain. He was just terrified of Snake pumping the brakes, telling him he wasn't ready; he knew what he wanted, for better or for worse. Ever since Snake had drowned-- No. He didn't want to think about that right now. He wanted to think about Snake being alive, kneeling between his legs with intent. "You should take yours off, too," he murmured.

EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): I’ve been doing this online roleplay thing for waaaayy too long, since around 2006 on obscure proboards forums lmao. I’ve been roleplaying on tumblr since 2010 after making the leap from livejournal! So around 16 years experience all together and 12 years experience on tumblr!

PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: Forums, Livejournal, Dreamwidth, MSN, Skype, Discord, E-mail even... At one point I used facebook and twitter and those are rp platforms I do not recommend.

BEST EXPERIENCE: Greaterspeed!! There’s a reason I keep coming back to this doofus and it’s because I had so much fun writing him, and I still do! He’s changed a lot over the years but I have too, so I feel like I’ve really grown with him. He’s my dumbass blue hog stuck in 1999, I lov him!

RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS: Large spacing between letters/words. I’m dyslexic and formatting like that makes it super difficult for me too read! Small text isn’t too much of a deal breaker bc I can always zoom in, but man idc how pretty your post it, if I can’t read it then I’m outtie gomen!! I appreciate the aesthetics and the dedication to it though! 

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: I’m actually more of a domestic slice of life-y kinda person. That might fit under the category of fluff for some people, but it don’t gotta be fluffy. I like to write characters doing their daily, maybe that’s why I have Greater just chilling in Station Square so often. It’s fun, lets write your character joining Sonic as he buys mints for Tails!

Other than that though, I do like a bit of fluff and angst if the situation is right. Smut is a definite no from me though!

PLOTS OR MEMES:  BOTH? BOTH IS GOOD. I’m always open for plotting, but sometimes how spontaneous memes can be just hits right! That’s usually when I slide in the DMs and start screeching to another mod about how this could go. 

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: BOTH TOO. It’s also kind of situational, like sometimes you just a need punch and a short reply is nice and punchy, other times you gotta map something out so a longer reply it is. As long as it’s substantial enough to reply to then we’re all good imo!!

BEST TIME TO WRITE: I write mainly in the evenings and night time! Sometimes I write during the day if I have a free day!

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): I like to think there’s a piece of us all in our characters, after all you generally draw from your own experiences when you interpret a story and it’s characters. I don’t think I’m really like Sonic in a lot of ways, but there are ways that I do identify with him, and the same goes for my other characters!

Also Sonic’s speech patterns definitely wore off on me over the years of writing him... ^^;

OMG I have so many bad video game takes lol.

Metal Gear Solid: I am EXTREMELY "take it or leave it" about the "old testament" games. (MGS3, V, basically anything about Big Boss and co.) Like, I understand that they establish the backstory and world, but I'm infinitely more invested in the efforts of Solid Snake, Otacon, Raiden, and everybody who was left to clean up the messes of their predecessors. Weird how that hits a little more for me. Snake Eater is still a total bop, though.

Final Fantasy: My favorite FF game is Crystal Chronicles. NOBODY LIKES THAT GAME- I understand it's not a traditional roleplaying game, you're just button mashing, the gameboy advance hooking up to the gamecube was clunky etc etc but I don't care. It brought me so much joy and the music really just makes my heart feel light.

Silent Hill: People don't get 3 enough credit.

The weather took a turn for the worse as Snake got into the town proper. Rain was beating onto the windshield, rendering the world outside into a blur and maybe he should have picked another day for this but now he'd gotten this far. Besides, it would be dry inside the shelter and Snake was nothing if not weatherproof. He'd gotten through worse inconveniences than rain.

There was snow in his nose. And his ears. Two places that it definitely wasn't supposed to be. He wasn't that much of a fan of snow anyway but when it intruded into his body, he could almost say that he hated it.

The lethal dresses full of feminine power, the flowing folds of trousers, the practical yet stylish clothes she dons for more dangerous missions. He has seen the kaleidoscope of colours and patterns to bedazzle all senses and has grown used to it.

But this is new.

After kissing Phryne, after finally making it clear how much he wanted and needed her, Jack had thought the rest would be simple. Glorious and exquisite, for sure. Maybe even poetic. But ultimately simple. He hadn’t counted on sudden nerves making his fingers tremble and his cheeks flush. He hadn’t expected how hard it would be to look Phryne in the eyes, those lovely eyes, once they were alone in her boudoir.

He looked handsome in the tuxedo, there was no denying that. But then, he had always been handsome, no matter the clothes. He'd looked handsome in the blazing Costa Rican sun, wearing only far too small speedos and sweat on his skin, and he'd still managed to look handsome after being cut into pieces, wrapped in blood and dirt and excrements. What subjects / genres do you find yourself becoming the most passionate about when you’re writing?

so, fun fact about this blog in particular---when i made it, i was Going Through It, and ovan was my outlet for a lot of darker subjects, and as more information came out from archives and other booklets from cc2, i realized he canonically goes through the same/very similar life events as i have. so when it comes to that kind of like...when pushed to breaking points, i love that kind of stuff. ovan’s kind of my go-to when it comes to venting, admittedly, so i really love the angst, especially if i’m stressed out. 

similarly, at least between the wife and i, because we had so much fun with masato and ryou and them growing up alongside us, i’m a sucker making them happy ( and suffering ) because it’s what they deserve. it just hits different.

i tend to get passionate if my muse feels something that i myself can find tangible, if that makes sense. it could be like a passion in a subject area ( say with otacon, i found myself getting passionate about him and his engineering takes bc i myself am one too ), or just something that overwhelms a muse pretty easily ( just.....gestures at masato, in general, in koi no yokan ). 

i think i end up getting a little passionate about stuff i’m able to project the most easily, hee hoo. i myself have a pretty strong...protective instinct when it comes to people i really care about ( if you know, you know ) and it’s a trait that most of my muses i currently write carry. as of recent ( aside from being tired as fuck ) that hurt/comfort espice is what i can most easily be really passionate about when writing. that angst/romance tho......enabling my muses to hit rock bottom in how messed up they can be is always something i really enjoy.

The MGS Summer Games have had me browsing for those fine Otasune fanfics, and guuuuuuys, I've got a plethora to share. Some are newer, some are older. All of them deserve love.

This is a list of works I'm truly passionate about. 

RomeoandAntoinette \ Team Philanthropy \ C1 \ 35 points

Grenades by argus. [NSFW] - 2011 Snake loses his eyesight on a mission, and Otacon seeks a cure for his blindness by whatever means necessary. The two end up switching roles, with Snake at the hideout and Otacon on the field. Major heads up for gore and explicit sex. This six-chapter story is gritty and absolutely merciless. It's one of the only fics where I slammed my fist, had my head fall into my hands, and had to stand up and take a walk. However, past the angst and terror is one of the most beautiful, amazing, heartwarming, happy endings I've ever seen a story pull off. The medical and technical knowledge in this fic is so spot-on that I can't help but think the author must be in one of those professions. You can read and enjoy this fic even if you don't know a thing about Metal Gear Solid. It totally stands alone. It's that good. It was written back in 2011, and was actually my inspo to make this list. I feel that strongly about its quality.

Tryst by berlynn-wohl. [NSFW] - 2020 This is actually a sequel to a fic by the same author called "You Doing Anything After This?" (2019).The plot of both stories revolves around an established relationship between Snake and Otacon. Snake pretends to be an alter ego named Iroquois Pliskin and engages Otacon in a fantasy roleplay scenario. In the sequel, the duo meet up again in a swanky hotel room. This is the only fic I've personally read where the 'roleplay-fantasy-affair' scenario works and doesn't feel forced or dubious. I think this is because they play the roleplay parts so over the top and the characters are self-aware. They take things slower in the first story, but by the sequel, they've got it down. Much like a really couple trying something new. There are a lot of sincere, totally sweet moments between two people who, through the playfulness of the situation, absolutely love each other completely. 

gray conditional by vhscassette. [M-Violence] - 2019-ongoing Takes place during MGS2. We take a trip into Arsenal Gear, but instead of Raiden's perspective, we experience the effects of the virus from Snake's perspective. This means we get glitchy Otacon instead of Rosemary. It's a trippy, smartly-written fic that delves more into the psychological side of Snake and Otacon's partnership.  

It's Been a Long Time Coming by faerieswing [NSFW] - 2014-2019 Post-MGS2 tanker fic. A cipher drone takes photographic evidence of Snake on the USS Discovery, and Snake nearly dies escaping after Liquid Ocelot blows the house down. Otacon saves his partner from drowning in the Hudson River, and the two go into hiding. Of course, feelings start to come to a head. This fic chronicles their budding relationship from MGS2 to pre-MGS4, which is an underused window of time in the Philanthropy timeline. This is a fic I think I reread once every couple of months because I just find it unforgettable. The characterization, imagery and dialogue are perfect. 

Play it by Ear by Reivalk [NSFW] - 2017-2018 Chronological Philanthropy-era one-shots. I like this fic a lot because it has Snake and Otacon divulge their dark family secrets and pasts to each other. This means there are discussions of child abuse, sexual abuse and PTSD. These discussion create realistic (not over-dramatic) tension. Chapter 8 especially is a masterpiece. It's also a slow burn with a lot of flirting. There one chapter in particular where Snake drops hints about being a clone, but can't say the words a lot. this leave Otacon to put the puzzle together himself. I could see these events unfolding in the canon universe.

Rest by orphan_account [T] - 2016 MGS4-era. Old Snake has come to terms with his mortality. He is dying, but happy to spend the rest of his days with Otacon and Sunny as a family. After nine years together, Sunny asks why Snake and Otacon don't wear rings. The result? you'll have to read and see! This story also has amazingly tender moments between Snake and Sunny, and really shows the father-daughter bond between them. This story made me smile and tear up simultaneously. (“I think the ‘until death do us part’ bit is a load of bullshit,” Dave says wisely.)

I also have a fic series to recommend. It's the "Hello world" series by krieger san! This fic series documents Snake and Otacon's relationship post-MGS1 to post-tanker MGS2 all the way to the Philantrophy era. 

But this is a fic list, so let me full a favorite...

Instance by kriegersan [M] - 2015 Snake and Otacon steal a body. Well, Liquid's body! This is a canon event that we never see happen in the games, so I think it's really cool to see it fleshed out. We see them do a lot of things in this fic that the games tell us they pull off, but we never see. This includes networking with other NGO affiliates and outsmarting police. It's all believably written here. Otacon also joins Snake on the field. After the mission, they talk. They talk a lot. As with any fic that delves into Otacon's past, read those tags and listen to them. There's also some gallows humor in this fic. The trust/choking kinks from other parts of the series are mentioned here, but there is nothing explicit in this installation. The conversations and their poignancy really shine here. (He follows his partner’s line of vision, really taking in Liquid’s face. He looks younger like this, relaxed, always having been so angry and vengeful in life. Otacon finds himself sneaking glances to compare the two, the deeper lines around Snake’s eyes, the stress there in his brow. It’s a little surreal, he can only imagine what Snake is thinking.) Like, damn.
