I can't believe it. I think I'm still in shock. I'm in the past. The ancients' world. The world unsundered.
(accidentally left this picture in the last post when I cut it in half. Pretend I didn't do that please, XD)
Getting some fridge logic that modern peoples probably have the Ascians to thank for Aetherytes. Yes, we reverse-engineered the technology from the Allagans, but the ancients clearly have the same structures. Seems to me the logical middle step is that the Ascians assisted the Allagans in developing the technology.
...Anyway, that's not important right now...
Argos! And...
Venat? It must be. That's the only person I can think she could be. And it makes sense. She looks to have the same appearance as the form Hydaelyn took on the boat. Oh boy. I am filled with nervousness at the prospect of meeting her...
And finally, you must be Hermes. And... I don't have the slightest clue who the little bird person is.
I do not spy any likely candidates for Elidibus in this zone's preview, despite knowing I must meet him at some point. Hmmm...
You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
I don't even know if I want to tell you. I don't even know if I can.
How do I explain what you became? That I killed you? How do I tell you that you will soon lose everything dear to you in the entire world, spend over twelve thousand years fighting to restore a fraction of it, and ultimately fail?
Hythlodaus made me a robe out of butterflies! I am never taking this off. Aaaaa!
Hythlodaeus also advises that, if anyone asks, I tell them I'm Azem's familiar. What, uh, what exactly has ancient me been up to to earn this sort of reputation?
Yes, please, assume I have no common sense. I wish to know ALL the worldbuilding details.
We are searching for Hermes by appearance, which is a novelty! He apparently has short, dark hair. I see I was correct in assuming that's who he was in the preview.
Found him!
Hermes is working by some pools, with creatures that appear to be axolotls?
Oh! Um, hi?
You're adorable. Okay. I'll be your friend. You talk a bit funny, are you intended to be neurodivergent?
Oh neat! You can talk in my mind? That--
Wait. Hang on. I see that "Hear, Feel, Think" in there.
Suddenly you are ominous.
Hythlodaeus and Emet-Selch catch up with me, and the former makes introductions. Hythlodaeus already has a working relationship with Hermes through their jobs, though it has been some time since they have seen each other in person.
Hermes seems... apprehensive upon being introduced to a member of the Convocation.
Meteion's avid interest in me saves me from having to make my own introduction, and to explain why I'm here. I get to learn about her instead! She is a personal project of Hermes' that he hasn't submitted for approval yet. Her aether is really thin. Her name means "shooting star". All very important pieces of information, I am sure. I am watching this blue bird girl like a hawk. Ain't no way she's dropping the "hear, feel, think" line without being Significant.
The lads are here to have a Serious Business meeting with Hermes, but first he must put the ambystomas away. Unfortunately, one is missing.
Hythlodaeus may have found it... up a tree??
I must concur with Emet-Selch's bafflement. These things can climb?
Oh, my mistake, they can fly.
But, just because they can get up does not mean they can get down. Hermes runs off to rescue the creature, followed by Meteion. Followed by me. Hythlodaeus and Emet-Selch stay behind to watch the rest of the ambystomas, which Hermes seems to have forgotten in his haste.
...Hermes, are you okay?
Heh. Hehehe... I didn't. I certainly didn't expect the Fandaniel I know, but... I... This is so wholesome!
Ah... Elpis makes me happy.
Hermes falls out of the tree, but he's okay, and the ambystoma is rescued, so all's well that ends well!
Aww, thank you. I will!
.
.
.
Oh, that's nice.
Wait.
Ktisis?
Ktiseos.
I... Have a bad feeling about this.

Ariadne x Venat ?
ok! so! ariadne exists almost exclusively in the shared canon with the clown car discord, and in that context, she's at best just acquainted with venat through a friend (a very good friend that is actually the azem here and just sort of like, loans the keys to the seat to his friends as he sees fit lmao)
i can definitely see them making out in the woods like one time, but that's kind of. par for course for ariadne for anyone who would be down for that in the first place. nothing more complex than that. ari doesn't leave amaurot enough for it to work in any actual sense.

Thoughts on Emet-Selch. Spoilers for FFXIV Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker abound. And grumpy, aggressively negative opinions about a character other players mostly adore, and the lead writer for the game also seems to adore. If you don't want to read that shit and you poke your nose in here anyway, I'm gonna post the Dead Dove gif at you.
Sometimes the FFXIV community is a very strange place for me to interact with as apparently the one player who saw the "Your character seems like they may be a reincarnation of Azem" ambiguity and took that opening without hesitation to declare it all just a wild coincidence.
A bunch of NPCs think one of my WoL's prior incarnations was good friends and colleagues with the cabal who became the inner circle of the Ascians? Nah. Actually no. 100% false. You are mistaken. Sometimes a person's Aura can just have a similar color to another person's Aura or whatever.
I'm absolutely not casting moral judgments on anyone who has strong positive feelings towards these characters. They're fictional and their crimes are fictional and the most "real" thing about them is that many of them are very attractive and charming. I get that. I think a number of them are very nice to look at and/or listen to as well.
But I'm the kind of player who mostly perceives the game through the filter of the life experiences I've invented for my character. When Emet-Selch sashays onto the screen, my WoL, an Ala Mhigan expatriate, doesn't think: Oh there's my old friend from the Convocation. He was misguided for a long time but we have made amends and I'm glad to see his ghost showing up to support me!
What my character thinks is: So. Emperor Solus zos Galvus of Garlemald. The man who forged the empire into an engine of conquest. The man who lead the invasion where my parents died, among countless others of my countrymen. The man who enslaved my people, outlawed our religion, sent our young and strong and healthy as conscripts to other lands to repeat all of these crimes against strangers, left our weak and sick and elderly behind to fend for themselves under backbreaking tax burdens, and pillaged every available physical resource of our homeland such that by the time we liberated it, there wasn't a whole lot of it left that was worth returning to. The man who did the same or worse to countless other nations, and placed this entire half of the Star under threat of brutal war. The man who oversaw the bizarre experiments on his own offspring that unleashed motherfuckin' Zenos on the world, which may genuinely be the worst thing of all. At least within the actions of that alias.
Because that man was secretly the Immortal Genocide Wraith Emet-Selch. Makes sense.
And that man also personally orchestrated the complete eradication of at least seven full inhabited worlds such that not even an archaeological record remains, not even a barren husk to serve as a monument. That man came a whisper away from scrubbing two further worlds out of memory as well, one of which is still trapped in a state of all inhabitants having been warped into undying-but-eternally-hungry monsters, and the other of which has been narrowed to a tiny circle of surviving territory surrounded by a wasteland of uniformly sun-scorched dust. That man, after all that shit had, the fucking gall, the repulsive, monstrous, obscene arrogance, to demand that I 'remember us, remember that we existed.'
Fuck that guy. I killed that sick son of a bitch, and he deserved it. I would do it again without a single heartbeat of hesitation or regret.
But he still seems to exist, and tales of any number of Hells and the judgments of Nald'thal aside, he does not seem to be experiencing any particular retaliatory torment in his afterlife.
Not only is he not chained up in a pit full of smoldering coals getting jabbed in the beanbag with a pitchfork or whatever, he's showing up here at the End of All Things, when I really need to keep my mind focused, to act like he's on my team and has my fuckin' back now?? Just palling around with his dead boyfriend (who is admittedly lovely, no quarrel whatsoever with Hythlodeus, pleasure to see you again buddy), having a grand old time???
I don't care what memories death may have restored to him, he did what he did in full possession of free will and an allegedly superior capacity for rational analysis. Dude went out of his way every time we talked to brag about how much better his his Bigass Aether-Dense Aumoratine Brain was, and he still decided to do all this heinous shit, acting deliberately and meticulously every step of the murderin' way.
Are there depths of evil so awful that redemption becomes impossible, and forgiveness can't be earned? Man, I don't know. I'm not a saint. I'm not a philosopher. I kill monsters. And that man is Star-wide Existential Threat. And one that has not been fully neutralized, given how his moldy soul keeps bubbling to the surface. (And for the record? What redemption? He hasn't even apologized. His janky ass tried to recruit me, tried to kill me when I refused his offer, got killed by me in self-defense, and now he just keeps... showing up, acting like we're all cool.)
So.
Next time I climb down the Aitascope it's gonna be with a backpack FULL of White Auracite.
Anyway. Just had to get that mess out of my skull. Here's hoping the story post-Endwalker doesn't find too many excuses to go back to the Ascians and Aumarot well. I feel like we've devoted enough of this game's lifespan to exploring those particular stories, and I personally don't need any more unless they figure out a very different direction to take the next Surprise Ascian appearance.

do you think Cal knew about Order 66 and what it did to the clones via psychometry? Did he feel a clone’s whole personality and humanity get stripped away with one lil sentence?

a lot of venat's choice is an answer to the ancient's problem too of "how do we continue without redemption". how do you live on with problems that cannot be solved cleanly and with blood on your hands and things that are totally lost forever. the ancients both didn't know how after living in their cocoons for so long and also possessed the power to keep eating themselves alive over it before learning to give themselves the chance to get up and go step by step even if it just really sucks. thinking about how e-s bellowed out that the first thing he'd do upon the rejoining was to expunge every trace of the history of their mortal lives from the collective memory. thinking a lot about how venat was implied to be one of the few ancients that looked at evolution and the minute bits and pieces that got them to where they are and recognized their ability to struggle and grow that they'd forgotten and thought it was cool and human and not pathetic and sad. paradise was over when they chose to sacrifice themis and the rest...they made a choice (and I don't mean to say they are to be condemned, it was because of terrible circumstances) that they just couldn't live with and were obsessed with not the continuation but the impossible return to when they were innocent and didn't make hard choices. which is something most people go through when they grow up 8]....amaurot as the paradise-not-paradise egg of childhood where nothing is your fault

ok but for real FF14 fans we gotta talk about the next 20 years in Eorzea cause it's gonna be wild
*There's gonna be some general Shadowbringers & Endwalker spoilers in this post.*
I'm making this now because something in 6.5 reminded me of this idea - no spoilers for 6.5 in particular though.
------------------------------------
So first, quick refresher: the FF14 setting has a pretty standard for the genre afterlife wherein souls of the dead merge with the planet's lifestream, they beat about for awhile, maybe ruminate on their past life, and then they can either merge with the greater whole or be reborn as new people. This got outlined all the way back in the 2.x patch series and became a major part of the plot for the Shadowbringers expansion, wherein the Warrior of Light is revealed to be a reincarnation of the ancient soul of Azem, or how the character Gaia is also a reincarnation of one of the Ascians.
Also a major part of the Shadowbringers plot are the revelations about the secret history of the world. How in forgotten ancient times, civilization threatened by a calamity called the Final Days offered up hundreds or possibly thousands of souls to create the god that would be known as Zodiark who would preserve the world, and how in time the goddess Hydaelyn would be created as an opposition to Zodiark's power. And that she ultimately sundered him into 14 pieces - and because Zodiark's nature was fundamentally tied into the essence of the world, when he was broken so too was the very planet and every living soul upon it, divided into the singular 'Source' and thirteen 'shards.' As part of Shadowbringers' plot, the character of Ardbert is revealed to be the First-shard part of the soul of the Warrior of Light, reuniting near the end of 5.0, and to villain Emet-Selch, these sundered souls are a pitiful shadow of the powerful, vibrant beings they once were in ancient times, unworthy of life.
Now here's where things get interesting.
During the course of our Endwalker adventures, we reach the lunar prison where the body of Zodiark is held captive. Due to some villainous machinations, the ancient god's bonds have been partially broken and his essence is leaking out, taking the form of ancient shades wandering about. One in particular we speak to is named Hythlodaeus. We had previously met this character - sort of, in the form of a memory conjured by Emet-Selch. This is the true Hythlodaeus, an ancient soul sacrificed to bring Zodiark into being. Despite joining the multitude of souls and the long slumber in imprisonment, he's coherent and holds a conversation.
Unsurprisingly, as the main character of a Final Fantasy title we go on to kill our setting's oldest god, and in so doing get a good look at the effect of the sundering on Zodiark: namely that in his case it was pretty literal, splitting off pieces of his body. However the interesting part of the Endwalker's implications is that while Zodiark was sundered, the individual souls that made up his being were not - after this confrontation we see and speak to our old new friend Hythlodaeus again, and again, both in a journey to the distant past and as we call up his soul for aid at the climax of the story...and he's the same person every time.
This...strongly hints that the myriad of ancient, unsundered souls which made up the bulk of Zodiark's essence have returned to the lifestream, and while major characters like Hythlodaeus, Emet-Selch and Venat seem content to leave the cycle of reincarnation for good and pass the world on to us modern folk...is that going to be true for everyone?
Are there, in fact, dozens - hundreds - thousands of Ancient, unsundered souls milling about in the aetherial sea, contemplating a return to the living world? Will the world of Etheirys over the next few years see a sudden wave of children with incredible power as these souls start to be reborn? Will the Warrior of Light, a soul merely eight times rejoined, be eclipsed in sheer strength by the might of a new generation?
The story will probably never go to such a place - after all it would essentially undo the themes of its two biggest expansions, and besides which, the story of FF14 as a whole will probably not venture so many years down the timeline to explore such a possibility.
But still. They say everything old is someday new again.

double pulling on tank!hades in ktisis is so funny to me. like. here’s hades who has been sent on a mission that involves socializing and his emotional support extrovert bf he brought along keeps trolling him (don’t know what he expected) and then he finds out everyone he knows is fated to die horrible deaths and he’ll be left all alone to go insane and evil and commit atrocities and ultimately fail
plus he has venat looking over his shoulder like a critical mother-in-law and the guy he was sent there to interview is trying to unleash his death bird on the universe. things could be going better
and then some idiot kid who’s possibly the soul descendant of his other troll bestie is running across ktisis with a pack of feral couerl chasing them like hewwo mr selch help me pwease! he is so Tired

If I didn't answer your question, there's a good chance you'll find the answer below👇
But please do not ask me for 3d models and do not send me requests.
-Do you have other platforms where you post your stuff?
Yes I have! Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter and Patreon
-What software are you using to create them?
Now Blender 3.5, but i started making them first in Source Filmmaker
-Can I use your renders as banners, pfp?
Sure! I do not have a problem with that
-Can I use them in edits or fics or as inspo for drawings?
Yes, but please give me credits
-Can I trace them?
Sure! but please give me credits if you were inspired by me.
And i'm not okay with selling my traced renders. I devote a lot of time to create them so respect that.
-What do you think about reposting your work?
edit: Do not repost, especially on pinterest.
If you like something, you can "reblog" here, "retweet" on Twitter and "repost" on Tiktok.
It's different if you want to use them in a creative form, such as: fanfics, edits, videos, references for drawings - I fully support everything where you give something from yourself! Just give me credits if you don't want to tag me.
But if someone only downloads my renders to post them on their account with 50 hashtags to get as many likes as possible - then no.
-Do you do commissions?
Sorry but no. I don't want to treat it as a job, but as a hobby and something that allows me to relax and learn new things.
Maybe one day! (i'll do announcement for sure).
-Do you sell your work somewhere?
I don't sell my renders anywhere, so if you see them somewhere as posters, t-shirts, stickers etc., please know that they are stolen. I would be grateful for information on this matter so that I could report it.
-What if I want to have one of your prints?
I have nothing against custom prints, but only for personal use
-What if I want to support you?
I have Ko-fi but also Patreon where I post my renders in 4K version. That's where I publish my works first and nsfw content wink wink
-How long does it take you to make renders?
Many hours. I am self-taught, I did not graduate from any special school in this field, so I often devote a lot of time to learning, so please respect that. But to answer your question, it depends on the project - sometimes 4 hours, sometimes a week.
It's still fanart after all so sometimes I make mistakes.
