Please tell me about your male Fire Emblem blorbos!!

The ones that I was referring to in the tags pf that post were Sylvain (3H), Inigo/Laslow (A/F), Saber (SOV), and Pandreo (Engage). The first 3 are a little… weird about women, Saber much less so than the others though (Jessie is the weirdo in that game).

I really really like what they did with Sylvain though. He has, like, the best character development I’ve ever seen in a FE game. He is really self aware for the most part, but there are a few moments when others have to help him a bit (mostly the player & Mercedes) but he does get it. He acknowledges his issues and does deal with them eventually. And I actually really like that, in 3 Hopes, he actually does this on his own during the timeskip. He gets his shit together all on his own and is much more responsible when he comes back. There’s actually a lot of ways in which he’s relatable too, like when he tells Annette “I’d rather people think I’m stupid” when she finds out that he’s actually a genius. I’ve heard enough “you’re too smart for this” to last a lifetime so I understand why he feels like it’s easier. Being measured by what people expect you to be able to do instead of what you’re actually capable of is frustrating. He has a lot of overlap with Hilda & Dorothea too, and I love both of them. He shares insecurities and struggles with them and it makes me wish he had more interaction with Hilda.

The issue w/ Pandreo is really just that he’s a priest. I mean I know the religion in Engage is not the same as in real life (the Divine Dragon being someone that worshippers can actually see and speak to is a major difference), but, like, he’s a priest!

There’s more I like that aren’t so conflicting, though. Lukas (SOV), Hugh (BB), Fogado (Engage), Ashe (3H), Atlas (SOV). I wish they had more characterization though. 3 Houses truly was exceptional in that regard. They utilized the support conversations really well and fleshed out the characters better than they did in any other game. I could write a whole essay on Sylvain, Mercedes, Hilda, Dorothea, Ingrid, Hubert, Petra, Dedue, etc. The other games aren’t bad but they’re nowhere near as elaborate

Claude's just here in the stable by himself...no Timerra or anything. Thought they always were next to their holders, but I guess not?

Gonna move on the chapter map. I know I probably should get to the emblem paralogues...but they can wait.

Looking at the map rankings, most people stick to the 'default' pair for emblems, like Timerra & Ike, or Rosado & Eirika. Alear's here is with Lucina, since no Marth, and she was placed onto Alear during chapter 11 (and replacing the Tiki I had equiped on him 😒)

Seems like Griss is second to Zephia. They seem to be on the same page of understanding, while we see Marni & The Boring One™ paired up more (though they don't seem to like each other).

I mean...you literally just got here. At least look first.

when playing through 3H, because the mechanics allowed for it I had recruited every recruitable person on every single route (w/ the exception of Hilda on BL/AM bc I didn't have the axe stat, but her being recruitable always seemed a bit strange to me anyhow), with the reasoning that looking up and reading the unique battle dialogue would take less time than looking up the unique monastery dialogue for each route and I was trying to maximize how much story content I could read for each playthrough. But like, having now combed through all the text I could, it just...doesn't make sense to recruit most (if not all) the outside people (students or faculty) during CF bc like, either the characters feel wildly out of character (the GD kids do not fit w/ CF's story tones at all imo; & Manuela, Hanneman, and Alois are SO out of place), or the characters are clearly very unhappy (all the BL kids are like, super cynical and depressed during CF, hell most of the non-AM routes the majority of the BL kids aren't doing too great mentally but esp. not on CF), and like, I get why it's a game mechanic, esp. for the cross-house supports and stuff, but I really kinda wish the dev team spent more time refining the game/writing and made it so fewer characters could be recruited from other houses on each route. It would have made the whole "choice" at the start of the game way more impactful (a la Fates which barred like, 50% of the playable characters on all but the golden route). CF is a bit of a writing mess as it is (I don't...actually think the writing for the BE kids during CF is that strong, except maybe Hubert bc he's one of the few characters with consistent writing for every route), but allowing players to recruit (almost) everyone just made it even more "eh" for me. Anyhow, sorry for the long ask, I can't remember where I was going w/ this, CF's writing is just...a mess.

I feel the exact same all around.

For a game that has such details like adding in extra lines to supports to reference other support chains, it's just... there needs to be a limit somewhere. When you give the player so much control over the characters' values to the point where it's you who decides what side of the war they're on, it takes a bit of their identity away. And I could understand if it was something significant like you persuade them to join you or spare them after a fight (like most FE games do lol), that's why I think the recruitment for Lysithea, Ashe and Lorenz post timeskip are the best done. But most of them are just "you are somehow the best teacher ever god you're so good, I'm gonna stick by your side forever" and it feels cheap to me.

And same on the CF stuff. I like how the route makes characters miserable because it's the dark end for Fodlan and everyone sucks, but yeah it just doesn't make sense to be able to recruit some people in the first place. Like, why are Mercie and Marianne against the church just because Rhea turned into a dragon? Do they not know who the immaculate one is? Why would her turning into a dragon matter, when she's just protecting a holy tomb? And why do characters like Ingrid even join at all? She doesn't care about the church, she cares about Faerghus! It's just weird.

ok well i LOVE to take down the church lmao. thats a good rundown thank u! i thought i would like byleth a lot but urghhfg it sucks. but i love the kids a lot so far so if i get a lot with them i would enjoy that!! DEFINITELY think one of the two games will go next on my list bc oh my god imiss fire emblem every time i think about it

YESS i think 3h by far has best supports out of any other game bc theyre just. so mcuh longer and more in depth than any previous ones sbdhcbdhj i hope u get at least one newer fe game and im stoked to hear abt yer experience w it!!

Sorry to bother you, but I saw your posts about the FE:3H dlc and I wanted to ask: Has it been explicitly confirmed that the apostles were Nabateans? I haven't seen that myself, but I haven't unlocked the secret library or w/e.

Not a problem, I can always be bothered. Although the Apostles have never outright been stated, word for word, to be Nabateans, the implications are there. They are called Saints, just like the other Four Saints that we know of, and they “poured their essence into the Chalice” (the essence is their blood, further supported by the picture where it shows red in the Chalice). In the pictures, they also bear their Crests on their robes.

ive been thinking ab fe’s avatar characters lately. i feel like the series has a tendancy for wish fulfillment, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but intsys’ wish fulfillment often,,,, allows for and panders to hot garbage in terms of romancing characters that should not be romancable by the player character (Ricken, Nowi, any of the future children, students, the royal siblings, etc.).

i think creating a blank slate avatar also tends to drag down their stories. they did a better job w the first half of 3h and Blyeth, but they just become so op post timeskip it kind of let down what they built up. i feel like i couldnt see their character in dialogue the same way we could w Robin (mostly just bc Blyeth has like 4 lines in all of their supports bc voice acting choices? i found that rly weird). also, so much of Blyeth’s character is set/not customizable, why not just have their name be Blyeth rather than what the player enters?

dont get me wrong, i know Robin (however much i lov them) isnt that much better in terms of idk character developedness? i think the reason why i like them more than Blyeth as a character is just bc i went into fea not thinking of Robin/my unit as an avatar character but rather “Robin” bc i was involved w fandom before playing and i hv a lot of hc’s and enjoy reading other ppl’s hc ab them

now i wont b able to stop thinking ab alternate versions of fea but uhhh theres my thoughts

wait. you play 3houses? i have a memory of you criticizing it awhile back (around when it was first released) bc it allowed a relationship between a teacher and student (even though technically it’s finalized after the war) and more recently you complained about how claude and dimitri are strictly straight lmao. i guess there’s a possibility im remembering things wrong but i was under the impression that you hated the game and wouldn’t support it lol so do you actually like it?

lol yea its under my interests, i criticized it some time ago when it first was announced bc of the weird shit in it + recently criticized it for the whole gay supports thing because it was, quite frankly, both mildly upsetting and EXTREMELY hilarious, but yeah! picked it up for myself & ive been playing it the past few days, just didn’t post about it on my main blog because i know a lot of my mutuals/followers (fairly!) disliked fe & i didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or anything (part of why i remade, its just easier to post about things on a new fresh blog where everythings tagged and give the option to people to simply not follow rather than me randomly starting to post about it and catching ppl offguard if that makes sense?)

if im being completely honest i just really wanted to play it for myself instead of going off on what everyone else said about it. i kind of formed my opinion on it based on the general opinion of the site which is people who havent played it and i was like. shit. maybe i should try this out for myself? and i dont hate it tbh!

of course you know. the mentioned weird aspects are still like, bad, but they’re completely avoidable in-game and have no impact on the story at all, so it’s not AS bad as it seems (don’t get me wrong, still odd that they’re there. though the game does its hardest to get rid of anything that makes byleth/most of the characters as weird as it can be, ex. byleth being around the same age range as (most) of the characters, being treated extremely casually, only teaching like... battle stuff and not like. actual education, so the imbalance doesn’t seem there or at the very least it’s not as strong as people are thinking when they talk abt it w/o knowing, + the big fact that you can’t even get anywhere close to romantic with the characters until after the war, but again, still odd. there r other weird supports besides the house characters too but those r more blatantly weird. anyway i digress, i don’t really touch the bylethshipping side of 3h i played a year later so i could avoid any fanbase drama im just here to kiss dimitri)

so no, tldr youre not remembering wrong at all! i did hate it or at least dislike it but that was before i like, tried it out myself and formed my own opinion on it. im critical of it but overall i think (so far! ive only played one route to the finish lol) it’s a fine game on it’s own and falls under “the weird aspects of this can be completely avoided without affecting the main story in the slightest” category when it comes to media with a bad rep
