on the medicine thing — when i lived in india there was a board exam to get into an undergraduate med where they prepared u for graduate med school. and then there was a graduate medical exam also. and a residency etc after that. not sure why they made it so complicated

here it's like, you do your admission fresh out of high school, you get accepted, you spend 6 years studying, divided into preclerkship and clerkship phases, there's board exams like usmle throughout your entire education. by year 6, if you pass the board exam + pass university finals, you graduate and get your MD then apply for residency that's it

#like there's not really... post grad in this program i don't think. even though it's 6 years #u can do post grad if you want ofc but u get your MD if just you graduate and pass the board exam so #inbox

I have my gyne final on thursday and let me tell you, I have studied every resource I could get my hands on, if I don’t do well I will actually scream, the only way I see myself doing poorly is if they go all Extremely Hard Exam mode, which will also make me scream

the constant escalation of effort required to achieve the same outcome is so sad to see and so exhausting to be a part of… even in the past few years I’ve seen an exponential rise in private tutoring across all ages (including primary school for selective school entrance exams), kids trying to get into medicine are doing research projects or fucking book clubs or whatever to try and boost their CV and interviewing skills on top of studying for UCAT & a getting a high ATAR, people talk about how getting research publications is now essentially a requirement for applying to some specialties and you literally never hear the end of it on reddit about how people fucking hate research and are just pumping out publications of minimal or no scientific significance, you hear about people doing research gap years or even fucking PhDs just to make themselves a more competitive applicant. like holy fuck when will the robots just eat us

#yeah this is pretty much ‘we’re living worse than medieval peasants’ post but extremely specific #negativity #yes I got exam results back today yes I did extremely well yes I felt nothing but tired #new semester starting soon once again we roll the dice on how long I can keep this up #applying to volunteer for doing research as well lmao due to stress about cv post-grad 🙃

just took an exam in 20 minutes without even reading 2/3 of the content and still got an 83%. this is why every faculty member of my department lets me in on gossip and trusts me. i am sooo fucking smart

#sat in plant manager's office for like an hour listening to him yell at a grad student for doing stupid shit #(justified because who does an ice cream research project without knowing you have to fucking pasteurize the mix before freezing it.....) #then i sat in lactation prof's office for 30 minutes listening to her perspective on the department drama #then i went and killed that astro exam. and soon i will depart for the disturbed concert with my friend in tow #tomorrow will be rough i think. 8am class with a quiz. then mixing ingredients. then work. then helping bestie with a spreadsheet #actually my whole week is kinda rough #friday i have prep at 9. clarinet at 10. class at 11. freezing IC at 12. work at 3. dog sitting immediately after work #BUT on saturday im going to see boytoy's cousin's play and i think we'll probably go out for food or something too #so like a proper date kind of. also i WILL hold his hand in the car ride there&back he is simply too soft and comfortable to not hold hands #also while i was in plant managers office he was there sometimes and he stood like right next to me and i couldve made contact but i didnt< #we are so good at keeping life and work separate #anyway. the best part of being a super senior is the trust i have from the grown ups and my classmates #and the worst part of being a super senior is having all the responsibilities that go along with that trust #school post

#my conlaw 1 prof was insane and brought me to the brink of a meltdown at least once per class #i got an A in his class solely bc i was lucky enough to get someone's outline #that inexplicably knew what completely random left-field thing he said offhand at some point would be a significant portion of the exam #personal #grad school nonsense #i sure hope this post will age well LOL
