Genndy knows. I bet he does.
He knows we will watch anything he puts on screen. He knows we will fall in love with the story, the animation and the characters. He knows we will love it.
He ALSO knows that regardless of how dumbfounded. Crestfallen. Incredulous and pissed off we are, we are still, going to watch the next show.
Even when the ending punches you in your privates and yanks your tounge through your ass.
And he, LOVES it.
I was there for Samurai Jack, I was right here for Primal and I'll be at the same fucking spot for the next thing you stupid-ass creative, sadistic genius.
This is your punishment, isn't it? They cancel your other projects, so you beef your finales to cause paaaaaain.

ideas for “primal” fic
* spear and mira attempt to parent the baby dinos when fang goes off to hunt. their opposite ways of caring for them show their individual approaches toward child-rearing (spear being an experienced father and mira being childless)
* spear becomes sick (his major fear) and mira attempts to get him to rest and let her care for him
* spear has a nostalgic dream about his mate, triggering a bout of grief that mira and fang can relate to and sympathize with but struggle to heal him from
* mira tries to teach spear her language and both mourn the slight but still present communication gap between them
* while on a hunt, spear and fang kill a creature sacred to mira’s people. mira is devastated and tries to impart the spiritual significance of the animal to spear to mixed and melancholy results
* mira teaches spear to dance
* spear attempts to cure fang of her fear of snakes
* the babies go on their first hunt alone
* fang inadvertently causes internal conflict between her children when she begins favoring one over the other
* spear and mira huddle together for warmth but spear is reluctant due to unease with prolonged human affection and lingering loyalty to his mate. he goes to cuddle fang and the babies instead. mira is hurt and tries to show spear physical affection in other ways only for him to rebuff her awkwardly at every turn.
* spear teaches mira to paint on cave walls but becomes slightly jealous when she’s a better artist than him
* spear and fang and mira accidentally ingest some hallucinogenic mushrooms and have pseudo-religious experiences
* spear and mira bathe in a stream and accidentally see each other naked. they don’t know what to do about the awkward tension so they ignore each other
* spear is so shocked by mira's hair that he instantly pulls it all out until she's bald again
* mira undergoes a shopping montage (each time she comes out of the bushes in a new outfit, spear and fang shake their heads in disapproval)

Spear and Fang vs Predator
Tumblr media
I watched Prey a few days ago, and it was awesome! The Feral Predator especially is what I feel is a natural successor to the original!
Thought it’d make for a neat crossover with Primal!

Mira and the Queen (Alternate Take on "The Colossaeus Part II")
In light of the finale, I can understand why people might believe that the second episode of the "Colossaeus" arc feels a little extraneous. It basically shows us what we already know and really drills in the monotony of Spear, Fang, and Kamau's enslavement and the Sea Queen's cruelty. Though we do see a little of her, I was most intrigued by Mira's predicament as one of the few women imprisoned on the Colossaeus. I was hoping we'd get a little more insight into what her daily life was like compared to Spear and Fang's.
I recently thought of an alternate way "The Colossaeus Part II" could play out; we still get small snippets of Spear, Fang, and Kamau destroying civilizations, but most of the episode is spent with Mira. We see her and the other women wait to see what will be done with them. When the Queen arrives and looks up and down at all the women, Mira is singled out because she is new. We see them stripped down and forced into a bath where they are scrubbed by the Queen's handmaidens. The other women are used to this, more or less, but Mira is confused and reluctant to participate. The Queen's handmaidens paint kohl on her eyelids and force her to dress in the outfit we see her wear in canon and spray her with perfume.
The women are fed rich foods and treated cordially by the Queen to try to win their loyalty. They are status symbols to her, beautiful trophies of all her pillaging, and she treats them accordingly--when they do well, they are rewarded with privileges, expensive fabric, good food, and special treatment. When they refuse to obey, they are humiliated and executed. The Queen, being a cruel and petty tyrant, revels in this psychological warfare as much as she does the physical warfare Spear and Fang participate in.
The Queen is intrigued by Mira because she is the newest asset to her collection. She takes her under her wing, allowing her to be her cupbearer alongside Kamau's daughter. Mira is even given access to the Queen's lavish bedchamber, where the Queen reveals a brand on her thigh--a sign of enslavement just like Mira's.
She relays her backstory: she was once a helpless victim of conquerors herself. Her whole civilization was slaughtered when she was a young girl and she was taken as a slave dancer for the pleasure of her new ruler, a king who was cruel and perverse. The future Queen was saved from the king's cruelty when he and his people were slaughtered by the Sea People. Terrified, but thrilled that her tormentor was dead, the Queen readily entered enslavement for her new civilization.
Eventually, she managed to become the favorite concubine of the Sea King, who then died under mysterious circumstances (wink wink). The young Queen, hungry for power after spending so long as a pawn in men's games, began selecting beautiful young women from the millions slaughtered and sparing them out of a warped sense of pity. In defiance of her old captor, who treated his slave girls like little more than animals, she treated the surviving women with generosity and kindness (from her perspective, at least).
The Queen's penchant for keeping children (Kamau's daughter and the leopard cub) captive reflects her own obsessive need for control and her lingering trauma after being kept captive as a young girl. She has a soft spot for youth because she remembers her own youthful beauty and how that helped her survive when her intelligence and physical strength couldn't. Conversely, she wants to keep the children "safe" (under her thumb) because she doesn't want harm (not perpetuated by her) to come to them--their innocence will be protected, unlike hers was.
Mira is terrified. Though she feels a twinge of sympathy for the slave girl the Queen once was, any compassion vanishes when she thinks of the cruelty she's enacted to countless other innocents. Mira's sympathies lie entirely with Kamau's little girl, whose ruthless treatment at the Queen's hands belies the latter's apparent good intentions.
The episode ends with Mira refusing to dance. The Queen glares at her, any pity for her gone, but Mira stares stubbornly back. Kamau's daughter gazes back and forth between them. The Queen demonstrates her dancing prowess and kills the chief of their most recently sacked civilization, obliquely threatening Mira with the same. Cowed, Mira begins to dance. As she does, the Queen leans back on her throne and smirks. Meanwhile, we see Spear climbing the walls in the background....
I just like the idea of the Queen getting a smidge of sympathetic backstory, as she's the only human villain who's totally one-dimensional. And I love the idea of exploring the women's perspective on the Colossaeus.

Okay, that 2nd half of the finale just went by SO FAST...I'm still processing what the heck was going on?
Primal S2 finale spoilers under the cut:
Fang is alright in the end but Spear gets badly burnt in the process, like really bad. I don't even know what happened to Stoick after they got to the bottom of the cliff, other than Viddarr's hand grabbing him and dragging him back to hell??? I guess he's just gone now.
Now the first half of it I loved, we managed to go back to Mira's homeland (which I am very surprised that they were able to locate), we learn a bit of her backstory and how she got imprisonment to where she first met Spear and Fang, and even got to see that her friend survived and the beautiful village they lived in. That stuff was great, it's towards the second half that really was tipping point.
When freaking Stoick the Fire Mast showed up, I was scared, I was anxious and I was pumped to hell to see what was going to happen since y’know, they're fighting a fucking fire demon of sorts.
They try to heal him back in the village but it looks like he's not going to make it, Fang pretty much roars in grief and her and the dino twins go outside, Mira starts to cry until Spear weakly says her name a few times.
And this part just took me out of it cause......okay, She looks up at the cave paintings he did earlier, smiles and goes on top of him, and they just.....start doing THAT while the camera pans back to the paintings.
All the while, I'm just sitting there about to cry that Spear is going to die, only to suddenly see the two of them getting it on, while this man is on his deathbed it's such a whiplash effect 😆. What the heck is going? Genndy my guy, why? What is happening right now? Why did you do the scene like that?
So then we just immediately jump ahead in time to see the Dino twins all grown up, Fang is still around, Mira is there as well with her hair grown back out and we see that she has a child with her, which is obviously her and Spear's daughter, and the kid is just riding one of the dinos holding a spear up in the air and the episode ends.
......
Bro what?
I know this episode got leaked the day prior and I heard a few people on here being pretty disappointed with it, comparing it to the finale of Samurai Jack S5. Yeah I see it now.
It felt like there was no steady transition and was pretty rushed once we got to the final 5-7 minutes or so, we didn't really have time to fully process in the emotions of the moment before it just ended. It goes from "We defeated Stoick the Fireast but Spear isn't going to make it" to "Oh. Mira and him got it on while he was dying and now they have a kid, life goes on." It was so sudden.
Like holy hell, what a way to end a show am I right?
