"Our competition entry for Tencent is an attempt to show that the smart city is also the green city", says our founding partner Winy Maas. Our design for this 133-hectare tech campus in Qianhai Bay took the form of a smart city district with buildings shaped like a continuous undulating mountain range. At the foot of the buildings, a waterfront park winds its way along the entire eastern side of the site, also extending up the lower levels of the buildings to form greenery-filled terraces. The park hosts many of the public buildings for the district, including a conference centre, a school and kindergarten, a sports centre, and a data centre, among others. "With ubiquitous smart city elements, Tencent employees would feel enveloped by technology", adds Winy. "But they are also literally surrounded by nature."
