ASMR | Kwon Soonyoung/Hoshi
Tumblr media
Genre: Smut
Pairing: Hoshi x fem reader
Warnings: sexual content
Words: 3.6k
A/N: Hi there! Before my angsty Shua fic will drop, have this one first hehe. As always, English isn’t my first language so excuse my grammar ♡
⋅𖥔⋅ ━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━ ⋅𖥔⋅
Your ASMR blog was well known. It was your hobby.
At least twice a week there was an update for your followers.
If people were asked about ASMR, they would think of mukbang first, right?
But your blog offered a different kind of ASMR.
No one knew who you were in reality except your closest friends. And of course, your boyfriend.
There was never a video. Just sound. Of you having fun.
Getting out of the shower, all nice and clean was the best feeling. Or was it to reach your orgasm after a long denial? You stopped midway to your bedroom, coke in one hand as you cocked your head to the side, not sure which one was better. There were often such dialogues going on in your head. It just showed you how crazy your mind was. Not only did you look sweet and innocent to everyone who didn’t know you and saw you on the street but deep inside you were a kinky little vixen which your friends and boyfriend knew.
You took a big gulp of your drink and hummed happily. Your boyfriend should arrive at any minute. Today was another special schedule for your blog.
When you sat down in front of your laptop, you opened your blog. After stating it, you’ve gotten a lot of followers. Some even called themselves fans. It always made you giggle. How could anyone be a fan of just a voice? Because no one had ever seen your face nor real name on the internet. For you it was funny especially reading that they used your audio recordings for other purposes. Dirty purposes.
You loved to scroll through the comment section of your blog. Reading all those filthy confessions often turned you on for another recording. Also it gave you a boost in confidence.
Speaking of your recordings. The audio files that you uploaded on your site were recordings of you pleasuring yourself. Moaning into the microphone or cursing how good it felt. There were never names, long dialogues or any other interactions with the people you uploaded it for.
Since you’ve started, you had a total of 86 files online and over 40 saved on your hard drive that you still had to edit. Why you were doing it? Maybe for the kick. The fact to know that people would hear how you were climbing up the ladder to your orgasm really heightened the pleasure. And it satisfied you a lot, every time you read the comments cheering you on.
The day you uploaded a file of you and your boyfriend having sex, your blog nearly exploded. The reason why he was included was because he just lost a bet at a party with your friends. Everyone was already drunk when a table tennis session began and Soonyoung was more than sure to win against Jun. If Jun had lost, he had to run down the street in the middle of the night, naked and meowing loudly. But as much as you would have loved to see that happening, your boyfriend Soonyoung lost, making him automatically the next special surprise on your blog.
Yes, your best friends knew about your hobby. Some had listened to your recordings and at the beginning your friendship was a little strange. Especially with Minghao, who was forced to listen when his roommate started one of the files. He always avoided eye contact with you but when you got together with Soonyoung, it slowly became better. And now, almost a year later, they all had gotten used to it and even made fun about your blog from time to time or teased you. But better like this than being confronted with a shy and awkward Minghao again.
Yesterday you announced the special surprise what you were going to record today and promised the file to be up by next sunday. And as always with your couple recordings, the comment section went wild. Some of them gave Soonyoung the nickname ‘tiger’ because sometimes he would make similar noises all of a sudden. He gave that nickname his approval and you knew how much he loved it as he called himself like that ever since.
You giggled at the comments while you were waiting for your boyfriend to arrive.
- The return of the tiger! Raise your hands y’all!!
- He should be in it more often. God he sounds so fucking hot!
- Hearing you two together is so filthy. I love it!!
- Can he tease you until you are a mess again and beg?
- Can’t wait for his raspy rawwwwrrrs hehe (;
- How about you edge him this time??? Pretty please?
Hearing the keys, you quickly got up and ran towards the door to see Soonyoung standing there dressed in all black, pushing his shoes to the side with one foot and taking off his black snapback. Biting your lower lip, you hissed softly, locking eyes with him.
“Okay, damn.. you look hot.”
“When don’t I?”
You snorted playfully but made your way closer to him anyways, immediately being pulled in a deep kiss. One hand held you close against his chest while the other squeezed your ass, you felt him smirk against your lips. “Hope my little kitten is ready for her tiger.” The grip on his leather jacket tightened when his teeth grazed your neck, sucking your sensitive spot just below your ear. “Always,” you sighted with closed eyes.
“Good.” He pulled back, licking his lips as he took your hand and led you to the bedroom.
Following him, he made you sit on the bed as he opened the recording program on your laptop. In the past, he often made it for you so he knew where to click. Adjusting the microphone beside the bed, he made sure that it was working before joining you.
You saw the red light on your microphone and smiled at him approvingly, giving him a quick kiss as a reward. When you are about to pull away, he grabbed your hip and held you in place, connecting your lips with his again. Effortless his tongue slipped past through your teeth as you gasped, his hand massaging your exposed thigh.
Actually, your plan was to tease him first and then to make him lose his mind while he’s tied up on your bed but the way your boyfriend was kissing you right now made you weak and unable to stick to your previous plan. His musky perfume filled your senses, combined with his tongue dancing with yours, it made you breathless. He was needy and so were you.
Pushing him back against the headboard, he looked at you, mouth open and chest heaving slightly, eyes hooded. You smiled and removed the leather jacket and black turtle neck, leaving his dark hair messy and in this very moment he looked adorable to you if it wasn’t for his eyes which gave you a lustful gaze. Leaving your eyes roam over his exposed chest and abs, you asked yourself how you had survived all those years without your boyfriend.
You were on your knees in front of him, dressed in a short silky negligee. Soonyoung groaned at the sight of you. “Help me out of my pants and sit on my lap, baby.” Your eyes widened and you automatically covered his lips with your hand but he only lifted one eye brow and shrugged. Normally you wouldn’t give long commands like this but that meant you may have to cut it out of the recording later. Or not. Doing what you were told, your fingers opened his denim jeans and pulled them off his legs.
A shuffling of the blankets can be heard and you sat down on his lap, your hands on his shoulders as you sink down, feeling his warmth against your core. You felt the urge to move but you wanted to get your approval first. Normally you were more the submissive type of girl in the relationship with Soonyoung but once in a while he would gave you the control. Today didn’t seem like this when his hands were back on your hips, making you move back and forth on him.
“O-ohh..” was all you said, staggered and weak, feeling his clothed cock rub against the thin fabrics of your already wet panties. Continuing on moving on him, you kept eye contact with your boyfriend whose lifted one hand to brush lovingly over your cheek, mouthing ‘i love you’. You smiled and silently said it back before leaning in to kiss him again.
One thing you loved a lot during foreplay was when Soonyoung massaged your ass. How he roughly kneaded the flesh and spread the cheeks, causing your folds to spread as well. And the feeling of them being slick and sticky while he would do that, turned you on. On top of that you were sitting on his lap at the moment, riding him, knowing too well that with each passing second, your juice would soak his underwear more and more.
Holding your face in place, his kisses went from the corner of your mouth to your blushed cheek, further to your earlobe and lower to your neck, leaving open mouthed kisses everywhere his mouth would reach, sometimes sucking softly at the spots he knew you liked, resulting him to receive moans from his girlfriend. He wanted your reactions to be louder. Not only for the recording but also for himself. He just needed the confirmation that he was doing the right thing. While Soonyoung bit down on your shoulder, his hand left your face and before you could ask, his thumb hook under the strap of your negligee, letting it slid down your arm and exposing your breast. He placed his hand on your mound and started kneading it.
Gasping, your hands found his hair and while your hips were still rocking back and forth on him, you tugged at his strands, causing him to let out a low groan. You felt his fingertips pinch your nipple and you arched your back, asking for more as your chest pushed into his hand. Soonyoung smirked against your collarbone and without a warning, he smacked your ass, filling the room with a loud sound and followed by your surprised yelp.
You had to stop yourself from saying your boyfriend’s name out loud. Soonyoung noticed it and chuckled before grabbing the hem of your soft gown and pulling it over your head. The moment the cold room temperature made contact with your heated body, a cold shiver ran down your spine and Soonyoung watched how your nipples slowly hardened at the cold air. Carefully taking one of your arms, he kissed over your goosebumps, his eyes telling you that you won’t feel cold much longer and you gave him a nod.
He motioned you to get up so that you two could remove the last piece of clothes on your bodies. Once it was done, you got a condom from the night stand but when you started to rip it open, you heard your boyfriend make a disapproving noise. “Uh uh….” pointing at his lap, he wanted you to sit down again. Without aligning himself, you got into your previous position and moved your hips again but now the feeling was more intense without the fabrics in the way. Letting your wet folds spread your juice along his erect cock felt amazing.
Faint curses left both of your lips as his grip on your ass tighten, spreading your cheeks again and with every motion, you felt your clit rub delicately against his pelvis. While your body shivered with pleasure, Soonyoung enjoyed the view you were offering his dark eyes. He could watch you like this all the time and he really loved the soft mewls you made for him.
Whenever he was alone at his home and felt horny, he would open your blog on his phone and listen to one of your recordings as he would pump himself. He saved two of you getting off with a vibrator. Those recordings were gold in his opinion because the microphone seemed right beside your mouth so the sound from the toy wasn’t too loud and he could enjoy your moans to the fullest. Although those recordings would often be very short because of course you knew the best where to stimulate to get off. And if you reached your orgasm fast, he knew how horny you were since you were bad in edging yourself. You were too weak. Whenever you wanted something, you wanted it as soon as possible. The only person who could tease you and still hear a sincere ‘I love you’ afterwards was him. Only him.
With another smack on your ass, his hands found their way to your chest, now massaging your breasts with both hands and connecting your mouthes again. Taking your lower lip between his teeth, he groaned lowly, heightening your arousal even more.
“Ahh… baby….” you whined as you wanted more, still thinking of the condom beside your leg that was halfway ripped open. Soonyoung didn’t have to ask because he knew exactly what you wanted. Even though he wanted to tease you more, he felt a little impatient himself so he took the foil package and ripped it open.
Hearing it, you automatically stopped and lifted yourself so he could put the condom on. Seeing him do that, your mouth watered. You felt thankful that Soonyoung chose not to tease you today. You wanted to feel the delicious stretch and now you could finally get it.
“Get it, kitten.” He licked his lip while pumping himself, waiting for you to move and sink down on him. You didn’t need another word from him as you quickly moved and shuddered when the tip of his cock nudged your entrance, holding tightly onto his shoulders. You swallowed thickly before moving a little lower, feeling the head push in and out a little. It was like an unspoken ritual between the two of you. A little taste of what was to come. After a couple of seconds, you finally sank down on him with a high pitched gasp. Soonyoung let his head rest on the headboard, his neck on full display for you as you saw his adam’s apple bob up and down. He tried his best to suppress his swearings. No matter how often you two fucked each other, he would never get enough of this feeling. The feeling of your bodies being intertwined. Connected in the best way possible.
He couldn’t explain how you would still be this tight even after your longest session of 3 hours a year ago. Long teasing, long edging, the roles switched several times, there was the use of different toys, even a bigger dildo than his size but your walls would still swallow his cock the same way it did when you two had your first time.
After adjusting to him, you started riding him, switching from jumping up and down and rocking back and forth whenever your thighs started to burn. You put your hands on his chest and slowly scratched over it with your fingernails, causing him to snap his head and look at you with such a dark expression that you could have come right then and there. His eyes were half covered with his bangs as his eyes traveled lower to your breasts, leaning forward to take one of your nipples in his mouth and immediately sucking at it harshly, making you moan and wrapping your arms around his head. His other hand was pinching your other nipple and you had a difficult time to keep your rhythm.
You felt your sensitive nub rub against Soonyoung’s pelvis and the familiar fire became stronger. “F-fuck… just like that.” You couldn’t recognize your own voice. It was much higher. And then again, originally you wanted to have control today. You would agree instantly if anyone would ask you if you were sex addicted. Because sex with Soonyoung was the best you’ve ever had. He always made sure that you felt the same pleasure as him. That you would come the same amount as him or even more often. He wasn’t selfish at all and loved to make you feel good.
He bit down on your mound, making you whine surprised when suddenly he flipped you over so he was now hovering over you, smirking down. His lustful gaze made you instinctually press your thighs together to feel some friction but you couldn’t since his legs were between them. Carefully taking your hands and placing them above your head, he held them secure with one arm as he slowly pushed inside of you again. Your moans were swallowed in a heated kiss, Soonyoung didn’t waste any time because he instantly moved in and out if you, giving the penetration you needed and could never do the same when you were on top. It was less friction on your clit but when he wanted, he would hit that specific spot deep within that made you see stars. But for that, he had to thrust upwards a little.
The room was filled with noises of skin smacking against skin, your whines and his low moans. Also the bed which was slightly squeaking with every hard thrust. His cock slid in and out of your warm walls like the missing piece of a jigsaw. He fit perfectly and knew how to make you lose your mind. 2 years ago he told you that he could make you come without moving inside of you and he succeeded. First you were laughing over his words but when he continued to whisper filthy things in your ear, you got more and more aroused until you came with a high pitched scream of his name. He owned such power over you.
The moment you heard him growl like a tiger, you felt his teeth sink down on your neck and with a broken yelp, you arched your back, causing him to hit your g-spot with his next thrust and you choked on your own spit, not knowing if you wanted to get away or more of it. It felt too much to handle but at the same time you wanted more. His tongue licked over the bite mark, soothing the sting before sucking at another spot. Your body was covered in a thin layer of sweat and so was his. Soonyoung’s hips kept snapping against you, resulting in your moans rising in pitch. “You… feel so good…” he breathed hotly against your skin as he thrusted upwards, now without a break, over and over.
You gasped loudly and absentmindedly fought against his grip on your wrists, feeling the tension getting stronger. Your orgasm was close. Squeezing your eyes shut, your thighs started to shake while your boyfriend still fucked you hard and deep, chasing his own release. The way your walls literally sucked in his cock and how your legs were trembling made Soonyoung more than proud. That was his girl. His pretty little vixen.
Getting onto his knees, he grabbed your hips and fucked you in such a force, you had to silence your screams against the back of your hand which was secured over your mouth, your knuckles turning white as your other hand nearly ripped your sheets. Right before Soonyoung came, he licked his thumb and placed it on your clit, giving you the final stimulation before you two came almost at the same time, your walls milking him relentlessly. He felt how more and more cum filled the condom he was wearing, his abs twitching with every squirt.
Your legs couldn’t stop shaking even when Soonyoung slowed down his movements until he came to a halt. You both tried to catch your breaths, unable to speak. Neither of you moved for a while until he carefully pulled out of you, rubbing soothing circles over your hip. A soft shine left your lips when you felt empty again.
Your boyfriend rolled on his back beside you, a satisfied expression on his face. It took you a moment until your breathing was almost normal again and you felt the black haired boy next to you shift, making you open your eyes and look at him. He softly covered your arm with kisses until he reached your shoulder and nuzzled his face cutely against it like a cat. “It was amazing. It always is with you.”
Making a kissing face, he understood and gave you one. When your lips separated, your two smiled at each other. You loved him with every fibre in your body. The sweaty hair that was sticking at his face didn’t make him less attractive, instead it made Soonyoung even sexier.
Shaking you out of your lovey-dovey thoughts, he cocked his head to the microphone and you made an understanding noise. Slowly getting up as your legs and core were still sore.
You turned off the recording program and watched how the red light slowly faded. Soonyoung was propped on his elbows, his eyes on his softening cock. “You told me before that it’s addictive to update your blog and I have to agree. It’s like having sex in public but at the same time, it isn’t. Although….” He poked his cock, his finger touching the white fluid outside and inside the condom. “I wouldn’t mind, trying that out one day.” He looked at your back when you turned around to face him, a mischievous smile on your still swollen lips. “Me neither.”
Soonyoung clicked his tongue and winked at you, making you giggle. “Next time?”

Wolf in wolf’s clothing
Gift fic for the lovely @artisthicc-nikyri of her oc’s Ari and Jameson, and her Troy!
Tumblr media
Make sure to check out her art blog for more of her amazing shit
Jameson had been right.
This was so much easier than working in the kitchens...
Ari snorted to herself smugly as she popped another piece of hard candy into her mouth, lazily eying the slow crawl of the progress bar on her monitor as the file continued to render.
This was a piece of cake, this was so chilled out in comparison.
She’d thought at first it would have been terrifying, that working in such close proximity with the God King would have been even worse than dealing with the head cooks, but man, she’d had nothing to worry about in retrospect. A whole month now since she’d joined the editing team, and she’d not seen Troy once.
The other editors in his media team had filled her in, and it seemed for all J insisted God King Calypso was a “Pretty normal person under all the bullshit”, he was an enigma to work for. Fair, but weird. Quiet, but frightening. If you handed in your projects on time and didn’t get in his way? The job was piss as long as you had the skills he wanted. Safe lodgings within the main COV compound, food and medical care, and a position in the God King’s own media team was something followers would tear each other’s faces off for, and did according to the footage she was currently working on.
If you didn’t pull your weight though?
Well.
They’d not gone into details, but made clear through hushed warnings that she really should make sure she didn’t fuck this up.
Bobbing her head in time to the music thrumming through her earphones, she slid further into the huge custom chair, pulling her knees up to her chest with a shiver in the cool dark of the editing room. It was always cold in here she’d found, aircon set to suck the heat out of the machines and consoles that lined the rows of editing desks in the dim glow of the sleep mode displays, while Calypso’s throne-like personal station flickered data across the wall of monitors it faced that she’d yet to actually see him use. Helios had been so pompous and insufferably showy when it came to displays of wealth, but even living on the station for years with J before they ended up on Pandora, she’d never had access to tech or setups like this before. “The God Twins provide” really did have credence when you worked directly under them. Everything from the top end rigs to the leather high-backed editing chairs stamped with Troy’s emblem felt like it cost more than she’d ever earn, a sad reality she considered while running her thumb along the bottom row of keys on her backlit keyboard.
Ariana Serino shone at her from the custom board’s base, pulsing red light against matte black just like everything else in the room. For someone who was literally never here, Troy clearly had a tight grip on the department’s aesthetic.
She had hated the kitchens, she really had.
The head cooks were egotistical shitheads with superiority complexes who like so many of the Twins’s followers, saw any step up in authority as somehow being closer to their Gods. They knew she was like a sister to Jameson, and they knew how close Jameson was to Father Troy. It had painted a target on her she’d rather have avoided, and they had never, once, gotten off her damn back.
ANYTHING they could berate her over had been used against her, anything to make them feel like they were better than her. Better than someone so close to the King’s Pastor.
J knew, he’d seen how tired she had been, how stressed. It had been him that had gotten her this sweet gig, and she’d made sure to work her ass off for the last month straight. No one seemed to have actually noticed, but then again, no one was screaming abuse at her either, so she must be doing a good enough job. Troy didn’t come across as the sort of boss to hold back in letting her know if she wasn’t.
Checking in on her next task with a quick click on the flashing mail icon on her screen, she sighed and rolled her stiff shoulders with a stretch, tapping the keybinds to begin the asset download as she scanned the mail contents. _ _
“Let’s Flay 22.12.NL, due scheduling & upload 48 hours fn.
Focus on clip 4, 7, & 11, Ty closeups, keyframes 4-gore use @ clip 1-2. Get that shit visceral.
GKT” _ _
She’d certainly not had any negative feedback from the God King at least, then again, she’d not had any words from him bar these shorthand communications, and they seemed identical to the ones he sent to the full editing group. She’d wondered more than once how much he actually knew about her based on what Jameson had told him in order to get her this position, or, if he actually even knew about her at all.
J loved to gloat to her about all the effort he’d had to labor over to get her in, all the late night convincing and grandiose bullshitting he’d done in her favor to the God King’s ear, wheedling her into the editing team like his own personal project, but honestly? She was pretty sure Troy didn’t even know her name, let alone much else. She was a symbol on his mailing list, a faceless employee to pump out fuel for the COV media machine at his behest, and being so unimportant had some sweet benefits.
Ones like the 3am flashing on the wall clock facing her across the room, neon numbers burning red through the inky darkness.
Mannn, she thought with a smirk as she checked the open messenger app on screen. She’d had such a good lay in today…
Not being important meant no one actually cared when she showed up for her shift. She’d realised last week after oversleeping and arriving hours late in a panic, then not having anyone so much as bat an eye. Shifts here didn’t seem to actually matter. They had assigned ones, but people just seemed to really come and go as they pleased. Long as they clocked in the required amount of hours and sent on their completed tasks, there apparently wasn’t any consequences, and that suited her perfectly.
She could sleep as late in the day as she wanted, drag her ass out of bed and to her desk, and work away till the early AM hours. A nice empty editing studio with no distractions, no colleagues to deal with, and no J pinging her 40 times an hour with silly chatter, she confirmed as she checked the empty notifications in the chat app. He must be asleep, it was literally the only time the guy shut up, not that she’d change that for the world. Jameson filled the sad silences of Ari’s life with infectious positivity. She owed him so much…
The sudden flash of fluorescent light as the room’s door swung open startled her out of her thoughts, and immediately into habits formed a decade ago on Eden-6. She froze, silent, heart slowing as her eyes narrowed and then shifted smoothly towards the danger on the other side of the room as she heard the door slam shut.
Padded, heavy footsteps marked someone’s approach along the side of the low walled editing desk rows, and she sunk lower into the darkness of her cubicle, flattening her silhouette like dad had taught her years ago as she slid the headphones down around her neck. Stay low. Stay quiet. Listen closely. Don’t move. It won’t see you. You won’t be eaten.
She felt her heart skip a beat as the shadow appeared before the predator, the dim lights of the editing room just enough to cast it on the floor as they approached, and she breathed a sigh of relief as she for a moment recognised the narrow height of the shape prowling towards her row. Jameson. Thank God, for a second she’d thought…
No, not Jameson. It was still coming, and the silhouette was only getting larger. Jameson wasn’t this tall. Jameson wasn’t this graceful. She’d convinced herself for a moment that she was safe, but she wasn’t.
Ariana felt her bones turn to ice as the harsh light of the data flickering across the throne’s monitors revealed the towering outline of God King Troy.
He shifted slowly, back turning towards her as he faced his desk, unaware of the woman watching him from under the gaps of her monitors.
He looked.. tired? Smaller, softer. Not exactly as terrifying as she had prepared herself for, not as imposing in a loose sweater and low set glasses as he was in raised collars and draped fur. He was still very clearly Father Troy, but like he’d shucked off a heavy costume after a long day. Neater, less makeup, hair looser and not as spiked. No chains or accessories hanging from his belt, just his slacks and a rolled up sweater sleeve his massive prosthetic was connecting to its socket through.
She trembled nervously as he stiffly lowered his weight into the hulking chair in front of her, settling the cup of coffee he’d been carrying down next to his flesh arm as he deftly hit keys with the cybernetic fingers of his right and began to pull up files across the monitors flashing to life in front of him.
He had no idea she was here Ari realised, beginning to calm as the scent of his coffee filed the room alongside the quick tapping of his mismatched fingers across keys. What was she meant to do…?
He clearly thought he was alone here. She’d never heard of the God King looking like this, the twins were always pristine in their curated appearances when around others. Grunge psycho-chic or draped in gold and jewels, but never average. The idea of Troy looking relatively normal like this? It felt like she shouldn’t be seeing it at all. It felt private. She pressed her palms harder against the flat of her desk and eyed the distance between the curve of his shoulders and the entry doorway she was considering bolting through.
“Shit” she hissed through gritted teeth. He’d catch her, he’d either see her from the corner of his eye or hear the automated door as it opened for her, she was running out of options. If he caught her trying to sneak out, he’d probably be even angrier, right? He’d prefer if she just broke the silence and apologised for interrupting him, she decided as she swallowed the nervous lump insisting on tightening her throat. J said he liked it when people were honest. He liked it when people didn’t bullshit him, and J knew Troy. She should just.. greet him. Dad used to say it was better to face a Tyrant head first than die with its teeth in your back when you tried to run, right?
She slowly straightened, lifting her chest off the desk and leaning silently back into her seat as she carefully tucked her hair behind her ears and flattened out her tank. Wide eyes not leaving the back of his head as he hunched over his station while she began to pump herself up.
You got this Ariana. You’ve faced bigger fangs than this asshole has, he’s just a man. He can be reasonable, just say something.
She breathed out slowly, steadying her lungs before breaking the silence.
“Forgive me your majesty, I didn’t know y-”
She startled out of her sentence as he whipped round to face her, unprepared for the violent speed of his reaction as he rose out his seat.
“WHY ARE YOU HERE??” Troy bellowed over her quiet greeting, and her brain stalled in trying to respond as he stormed towards her desk.
“I.. I.. I’m just.. working some overtime, Father Troy, catching up on som - Ah!”
She flinched as he yanked the mouse out of her hand, ice cold metal digits tearing it out of her fingers and onto the desk in front of him, expertly pulling up her activity monitor script over the chat window where Jameson’s afk profile pic still flashed.
“Overtime? Fucking bullshit.” he growled, flashing gold capped teeth as he sneered inches from her face. “LOOK.”
She cleared her throat quietly, cowering under his looming torso as she snapped her eyes to the onscreen log he was referring to.
“You clocked in 3 hours ago.. Bunny..” -Her chat nick? He’d seen oh god this was so embarrassing oh g- “Overtime means working after your shift, not starting it in the middle of the fucking night. Did you just lie to me?!”
Wow. She was dead. This was it. It was the end. Why’d she ever listened to J, he was an idiot. She should have just run. She was going to be ripped apart by this lanky asshole and it was all J’s fault for insisting he was nice underneath. She was going to haunt that green bitch for the rest of his life. Nothing left to lose now, she accepted with finality. Just be honest. He was either going to break her neck or not.
“I’m.. sorry.” She whispered, then continued as she realised with rising surprise that he was waiting to hear the rest.
“I was very late today and I just wanted.. to make sure I finished these edits for you for tomorrow. I don’t have the right tech in my quarters, it felt like the right thing to do was just stay here and get it done..”
Ari waited as the silence continued, swallowing tightly as she raised her eyes slowly, hoping for a positive reaction. He was quiet, still hovering above her and leaning heavy on the massive prosthetic still resting on her desk as he massaged the bridge of his nose with his human fingers, but his face had relaxed, his mouth no longer a tight grimace. He just looked.. sad, and tired, and like he was done with this.
“You’re Ariana, right?” he muttered through an exhale as he pressed his fingers tighter into the corners of his closed eyes under the glasses.
“Yes Tr-SIR! Sir. Ariana Ser-”
“I don’t care.”
She jumped slightly as the metal limb to her right lifted off the desk as he stood.
“I don’t care when you get the work done. It’s fine.” he sighed, voice rough and quiet.
“I don’t shift people late because I don’t want people here late, but you can stay till you get your shit done.”
His hand dropped to his side as he looked down at her, meeting her worried gaze over the frames of his glasses.
“..but don’t ever lie to me again. You’re here because Jameson recommended you, and as much as a pain in the ass as he can be, I trust Jameson. This is your one strike.”
She slowly felt the tension relax out of her joints as he turned and began to walk back towards his station, flopping down into the massive chair with a sigh as he raised his eyes to hers again.
“If he hadn’t, and you were anyone else and lied to me like that? …You’d be dead where you sat.”
Ari twisted her fingers between her hands nervously as he swiveled towards his monitors and began to type once more. How the hell had she survived that. How had that worked out when she’d been so close to getting the axe, figuratively and literally. She checked the chat app once more while beginning to settle back into a more comfortable position. Jameson was still offline, he was probably sleeping soundly through the most stress she’d had in years, typical.
Opening the editing software again, she began to work on the next clip in her log, painfully aware of typing as quietly as possible so as not to interrupt her new colleague.
As the minutes ticked by, she found herself relaxing slowly. The atmosphere stayed desperately tense, and the God King’s heavy silence punctuated each harsh snap of a key or frustrated sigh he made all the more as they continued to work together. Troy was noticeably on edge, fidgeting in the corner of her vision every now and then, tugging at the rolled shoulder of his sweater or trying to sweep his hair forward as if his appearance was upsetting him, making him feel awkward in some way.
He was angry with himself, more than anything. This was Jameson’s friend. This was his only friend’s closest companion, the person he described as a sister, and this was going to be her first experience of him?
He hadn’t meant to snap earlier. She’d just caught him so unprepared. No one was meant to be here tonight, he should have been able to get these final shots compiled and queued for upload in peace. Instead, he was sitting in the same room as someone he’d probably just terrified, trying to work while hyper aware he was out of character, and he hated being out of character around others. He didn’t even have his fucking hair done, he looked like a tool. This was not the kind of cringe he enjoyed, and he had no experience in how to deal with this situation.
Should he say something? He wasn’t sure, she probably didn’t want to talk to him anyway he worried, glancing over his shoulder at the back of her monitors, just able to make out her hands working away under them. Jameson would tell him to say something, but he didn’t know what that something should even be. What if he just made this worse. This wheedling grip of anxiety in his gut was one of Troy’s least favorite feelings. It was the kind of stupid, unmanageable worry that left your heart beating just a little too fast, your palm sweaty, it was horrible. He liked to be in control, always. Of everything, but especially himself. Feeling like a nervous child in his own damn editing office, where he had come to clear his mind tonight so he could possibly get some sleep later? It was bullshit, and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat and tapped his fingers against the empty coffee cup to his left, trying to focus on what he should say rather than how awkward the atmosphere was. “You.. uh..”
He winced to himself at how his voice caught in his throat. Great start, God King. Fuck. Get your act on!
“-Ahem- You know Jameson a long time, right?” He prompted, noting the sounds of her typing had stopped in response, and the slight squeak of leather behind him meant she had shifted in her seat.
“Yes sir...” Ari responded meekly, barely audible over the wall of monitors between them.
“Troy. Troy is ok right now. It’s not like there’s anyone else around, huh?” He called back, feeling his confident act begin to fall back into place as his practiced nonchalant speaking tone shifted over the tightness in his voice from a moment ago.
He felt the pull of a smirk at the corners of his mouth as he heard a soft breath of a laugh from Ariana, and the tension beginning to disperse from the room.
“Yes, si-Troy! Sorry. Troy.” She called back, louder this time, and he leaned back a little more comfortably into his seat. “Yeah we’ve known each other a long time!” She continued, voice tilting upwards in obvious excitement.
“We met on Helios, when we were kids.” Ari offered, noting the slight turn of the Holy Twin’s head towards her as he listened.
“Well I was a kid, he was a bit older, but we were in the same class in what passed for a school on that place. He didn’t have many friends his age I guess, and I had no friends at all, so he kind of just attached to me! You know how some people are just like that?” A quiet snort of agreement from the desk in front of her making clear that yes, Troy knew exactly what ‘kind of people’ Jameson was exactly like.
“We just adopted each other then.” She followed. “We’ve kind of always been together since. He talked too much, he said, and that I talked too little! He’s been trying to make me get better at that.. actually.. uhh..” she trailed off, feeling a rush of returned awkwardness in the fact she was currently monologuing at a deity who could rip in her two if she irritated him.
He shifted further in his seat, turning far enough for her to catch the reflection of his monitors in his eye as he glanced back at her. “No, go on.” he encouraged reassuringly. “Kind of interesting to hear someone else’s opinion of the caustic tool for once.”
She caught the wolfish smirk before he turned back towards his screens, and felt a genuine smile of her own blossom in the relief that she wasn’t talking too much, he actually seemed to be enjoying this in some way. “Sure. Umm... Oh! We left Helios before everything went crazy up there, not long after all that shit happened with Jack. I think the COV was just starting up around then..” she mused for a moment, then let out a short laugh. “He’s my brother now I guess, and like you said before, he’s a pain in the ass, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything!” Ari chuckled, before excitedly continuing. “Oh man! Sorry, I-I mean, I don’t need to explain that, do I! I guess you of all people know all about that kind of feeling for someone like a sibling, right?”
Her smile faded as the seconds ticked by to no response, just the quick tapping of his fingers across the keys as he continued to work. That cold tension began to creep back into the air, and for a moment, she wondered if she really should have shut up earlier. “Where were you before Helios?” he prompted, voice controlled and tone unsettlingly blasé as he deftly opened up 3 more windows and dragged clips into them, his head subtly moving with his eyes as they shifted from file to file. “You clearly weren’t born there.”
The misdirection didn’t escape her, but she knew he was purposefully attempting to put her at ease by continuing the conversation, and it wasn’t a gesture she’d reject. “No, no I was born on Eden-6. I was there my whole childhood with my family before we all moved to-”
His raucous barking laugh interrupted her mid sentence, and she blanched, unsure of what she had said that was funny.
“Eden-6! Mannnnn!” he balked, hiccuping laughter rolling into a growling chuckle. “Dude, sucks for you, that place is a fuckin’ swampass shithole.”
He broke into laughter again, tilting his head back and running his hand back through the thick hair that she realised had been falling in front of his face this whole time, and Ariana saw red.
What the hell was funny about Eden-6? They were living on fucking Pandora by choice, and he calls Eden-6 a shithole? Seriously? She squeezed her fists shut and barely registered the bite of her long nails as they dug into her palms, completely aware she was losing the battle to keep quiet and not say something she’d regret.
“Wow. Funny. So what kind of up-its-own-ass wealthy bullshit homeworld did you come from?” Ari snapped back, before almost instantly reeling from how stupid an idea that outburst was.
She recoiled back into her chair as fear crept up her spine again, and felt her stomach drop even further as he slowly stood out of his seat, turning towards her.
His icy eyes met hers as he crossed the distance between their desks, half hooded and lazy above the rims of his glasses, maintaining their contact as he stopped in front of her monitors and calmly reached his prosthetic over before gently plucking the empty soda can off the desk beside her. She felt a wave of confusion as he turned with one last glare in her direction, before he began to walk towards the wall near the entrance door. She finally noticed he was carrying his coffee cup in the other hand.
Oh.
He wasn’t going to kill her. He was just.. getting more drinks. For both of them it seemed, considering she could hear the hiss of the team’s coffee machine in the dark, and the quiet open and close of their small stocked fridge. Ari stared down at her hands in her lap, cringing with each step as she heard him approach, desperately embarrassed by her overreaction.
She winced as she heard the clunk of the soft drink can he’d placed on the desk inches in front of her, and muttered a breathy “Sorry.”, still avoiding looking at him directly. The tap of his prosthetic’s finger on the rim of the can was a clear signal he wanted her to however, and she reluctantly raised her eyes to meet his, painfully aware of her flushed cheeks.
“Don’t worry about it.” he chuckled, still looming over the rise of her monitors like a lanky predator eying up its next meal. “J said you were good at speaking your mind. I kinda appreciate that with the people I have here. Means the feedback I get is uhh” he raised his eyebrows as he thoughtfully looked to the side “.. actually useful at times.”
“Besides, you’re wrong anyway, little miss thinks-she-knows-shit.” he scoffed, smiling into his coffee as he sipped from the refilled cup, then letting his gaze shift afterwards from the hot drink back to the extremely confused Ariana. “I’m from a shithole too.”
It took her a second for what he’d said to really register, and then Ari laughed. Really laughed, deep from her guts in snorting, gasping bursts. A moment later, he joined her, and for the first time that night it was truly genuine from him, even if it was quiet and tired, and still a little awkward.
The pause after was comfortable, and he stalked back to his chair, slumping into it as he nursed his drink. She eyed the can he’d brought her, the exact same energy drink as what had been empty on her desk, and the realisation he had been paying such attention felt oddly flattering to Ariana, like warmth deep in her belly. She reached out and touched the can, only the sounds of Troy sipping his drink and the fans and quiet clicks of the machine components around them breaking the silence. It wasn’t something she was used to. She was used to not mattering enough to notice things about, and wasn’t sure how to really handle this feeling. It felt welcoming, but frightening. Like being on the precipice of something. Like change.
“By the way” he smoothly interrupted her thoughts as he called over to her “I’m here most nights, around this time. If, you know, you do prefer working late, just keep in mind I’ll be around too. Long as it doesn’t affect your work, I’m ok to share the editing room with you like this.”
Ari was unsure why exactly, but that did something to her. It was innocent, it was an olive branch of friendship, she knew, but the reaction was visceral. Her instincts kicked in once more and a thrill of cold ran up her spine, prompting her to stand quickly and finally attempt to take her leave, approaching his desk nervously to bid her farewell.
“Troy, um, God King, thank you! For.. the chat, it was .. fun?” she stammered while eying the exit door as he lazily watched from over his raised cup.
“I’ve finished the tasks you queued for me so I’m going to, um, go to sleep hahhh.” she laughed unconvincingly, wringing her hands together as she awkwardly sidestepped towards the door, slowly turning away from him as she edged closer to her escape.
“Mmhm.. sure. Night.” he mused, cocking an eyebrow as he considered her with deep set interest, before continuing just as she reached towards the door controls.
"Oh, and Bunny?“ Troy drawled, watching as she stopped in her tracks and slowly turned to face the editing chair he was draped over.
"Keep all of this - " He gestured lazily between them, and raised a finger to tap the frame of his glasses as he locked eyes with her over the lenses. "- to yourself."
"Being cute doesn't stop wolves from eating little rabbits alive... Understand?“
There was a pregnant silence as Ari parsed the threat, the roaring of her own pulse overpowering the background hum of the cooling fans thrumming in the darkness of the almost entirely empty editing room she was so close to escaping from.
"Yes... sir” she swallowed shakily “ I understand."
She winced at the streak of blue light that pierced the darkness when Troy's metallic canines caught the monitor's glow as his mouth split into a vicious grin.
"Good girl. Sleep tight then. Night night." the God King sneered through those sharp, sharp teeth...
---
But Ariana didn’t sleep tight, and she spent all night trying to work out exactly why.

The Runaway Jeans and Mr. Squiggle
Pairing: Chris Evans Reader x her
Rating: G
Warnings: Fluff and feels, Laughter.
Summary: Chris needs to catch the runaway jeans!
Tumblr media
Shout out to @always-an-evans-addict you read it and edited it for me this lady is an  angel, beautiful person you needs hugs and a lot of presents! For the @always-an-evans-addict Challenge she sent to me <3<3
 Enjoy!
“We’ve been through so much together, you're my buddy, but there is one thing that we both know is a no go. It breaks my heart to do this to say this, as I think you know how important you are to us and our family.”
Chris sips his coffee as he sits on the couch, placing the coffee on the coffee table and taking a deep breath. He shakes his head, looking up. “I have called this emergency meeting to discuss with you the rules of the house. I know it is a lot to take in and to process but these kinds of things need to be aired and discussed with an open heart and mind.”
He hears a rustling and fidgeting of clothing, along with a little cough, causing him to look to the side. Mikey is sitting there watching an episode of Mr.Squiggle, which has been discontinued for a long time but, as his wife introduced the show to your little boy not that long ago, he was hooked on the show. Normally he would be fidgeting and chatty through all TV shows, but this show seemed different; He was transfixed by the puppets and the host, seeing them drawing the Characters like Blackboard. For you it was hilarious and entertaining. You couldn’t understand why or how this show never made it to kid’s screens here in the U.S or the UK, but was hugely popular in Australia from 1959 to 1999. Little kids loved seeing all the drawings that Mr.Squiggle did each episode.
Hearing the theme song and making clappy hands as it started to play, Mikey wiggles around in excitement for the start of his favourite show. Chris remembers what your wife said before she headed out to go grocery shopping. “Thank god for Youtube and smart people that loved this show for uploading it- so that parents and former fans of the show could watch the episodes anytime they want.” She told you how the first time she showed Mikey an episode the stillness that came over him, the absolute focus was frightening but a god send. The amount of things you could get done in one room while he watched an episode was amazing.
 “You ok, Mikey?”
He replied “Shh, Daddy, I needs ta lisen to the song!”
“Sorry Buddy.” Turning his focus back to the problem at hand, he sighs. “Well, this is how it is going to go down. I will ask you to drop them, and you will let go. In exchange, I will give you the one thing you want the most- which you know Mom won’t let you have for too long as you’ll make yourself sick.” Chris rubs his hands together and lets out a chuckle. “Alright, I will come over to that side of the room, and I want you to promise me you won’t run, okay? Mom will be home soon, and if she finds out you have her favorite pair she will not only be mad at you, but mad at me for allowing things to get this far.”
As he rises from the couch and slowly approaches the coffee table, he moves to the right side of it and proceeds to slowly turn left, not to startle who’s on the other side of the table. He keeps his hands out, trying to act inconspicuous and non-threatening.
It’s all in vain; Dodger seizes his chance and bolts to the other side of the table, taking off like a rocket to escape from his dad’s clutches. Chris sighs and groans in frustration, muttering under his breath. “Not again… Dodger!! Come back here!” He calls and runs after the dog, trying to catch up to him as they move through the house, going room to room.
As he tries to get closer to the dog it becomes apparent why he was doing the chasing. In the dog’s mouth was a pair of jeans- Not just any jeans; a nice, dark blue pair that you love and adore. You found them in a store in Sydney, and they not only felt nice, but they were fitted comfortably and just a down-right sexy pair of jeans. You wouldn’t only be annoyed, you would be furious.
Chris accidently left the wardrobe door open this morning as he was getting dressed, and the next thing he saw was Dodger shooting out from the walk-in with your jeans, fluffy tail flung high in the air as if he was proud of himself for getting such a precious gift- a treasure that he could keep. No amount of bribing such as walkies, extra food, play time or affection would sway him. He was determined to have your pair of jeans no matter what. Chris also tried pleading and begging, which normally Dodger would listen to and drop the item at your feet. But this time he just wouldn’t budge.
Chris stops by the kitchen door, bracing himself against the doorway and slightly puffing, looking across the room at Dodger. The puppy is at the back door trying to get the big glass sliding door to open, which thank heavens it wouldn’t as it was still locked. Taking the few minutes to breathe, he looks at the watch, seeing the time and freaking out a little more. He has 35-40 minutes tops to get Dodger to let go of the jeans and check the damage before you got home. He pokes his head back into the lounge room to see Mikey had fallen to sleep while watching Mr. Squiggle. With a relieved sigh, he turns back to the kitchen to notice Dodger trying to creep away slowly. “Buddy, you stay right where you are.” As he starts to try and slowly approach the dog his phone rings, drawing his attention.
Looking up at the ceiling and sighing in frustration, Chris digs his phone out of his back pocket, wondering who could be calling. He swipes the screen to see your name, having a mini panic attack as he thought of all the possible reasons for you to be calling now.
Glancing up at Dodger and saying, “Noo, stay!” Chris watches as Dodger sits with jeans in his mouth, drool landing on them as his head tilts to the side, as if to ask what was happening to their game of chase. Finger on the receive button Chris takes a breath and swipes, “Hi babe, what’s up?” He puts a smile in his voice, still eyeing his puppy.
“Hi hun, I just wanted to let you know that the shopping is done and I’m in the car on the way home right now.”
 “Oh really? That was quick.”
“Quick? You think this trip was quick? Anyway, the reason I’m coming back earlier than planned- other than getting all the groceries- is because a random person approached me as I was walking to the car and said being the weight and size I am isn’t healthy for me and my baby. Like really I only have a slight baby bump and everyone decides that just because I’m not skinny or model size, or the fact that I have bloody curves makes it okay to criticise me?!”
“Babe ignore them,” Chris says reassuringly. “The doc says the three of you are healthy and he’s happy with your weight right now.”
“I know, I told the person to mind their own business and move along. Then quickly packed the car and I’m on my way home now.”
“How far out?” He eyes Dodger again.
 “Oh, 15 minutes.”
 “You’re hands free, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, of course! Anyway, I pulled over on the side of the road to chat with you, so see you soon babe. Bye.”
As Chris hangs up, fear and shock hits as he looks to Dodger, who is looking seriously at him. “Buddy, I need those jeans back now. She will be here in a few minutes,” They both eye each other with the kitchen table in the middle. Dodger at one end and him at the head of the table. “We have no time for games.” As he moves to the left slowly, Dodger moves to the right, going the opposite way.
To anyone walking in right now, it would look like a weird dance routine performed by a man and his dog chasing each other around the table, changing directions and going the other direction. They both stop in the middle of the table, staring each other down and trying to predict which way the other will go. Seeing an opportunity he glances at his watch, noticing he has 6 minutes left before you come back. As soon as the thought enters his mind the sound of a car’s engine approaching- paired with the sound of the garage door opening- had the both of them looking at each other with surprise. They both look towards the door in the kitchen, which lead into the laundry and then the garage.
Looking back at Dodger, Chris frantically motions to him to come closer. “Give me the jeans Dodger, please give me the jeans so all I have to do is put them in the machine and wash them when she isn’t looking. Pleassee?” The sound of bags rustling and keys jiggling causes him to realise that he had no time. He takes a chance and goes to the left, putting everything he has into getting to the other side and surprising Dodger enough to get the jump on him.
Dodger, whose focus was on his mom coming through the door any minute, didn’t notice until Chris let out a chuckle, “Ah haa!” Dodger’s head moves from the door to Chris, and his eyes widen. He quickly turned around and went back into the living room, but seeing as Chris had such a head start he didn’t get far before his dad finally caught him around his waist, moving his right hand to the dog’s mouth and grabbing the jeans letting out a cheer. “Yes!”
 “Honey I’m home!”
“Hi sweetie.” The sound of bags being placed on the kitchen bench comes before the sound of your shoes heading back to the garage. The boys both let out a sigh of relief, and Chris turns his focus back to said jeans in hand. Dodger takes his chance and wiggles out of Chris’ grip, trying to bolt forward, but seeing as Chris still had a hold on the jeans he didn’t get far. Again he and Dodger eye each other, the pup letting out a muffled bark and his tail wagging at speed as to say, “Play!!” Tug of war started over your jeans, him with one leg and Chris the other.
Meanwhile you come back into the kitchen. “How was your day, hun?”
“Was good,” Using all the muscle and strength he had, Chris pulls Dodger closer to make a final grab for them. At the same time you’re asking more questions, and Chris has to take a breath and answer, trying not to sound like he’s exhausting himself for her to ask what was going on. He describes the day he’s had and how Mikhail was a gem to look after.
“That’s good, I will need a hand though for the groceries please.”
Dodger tugs twice and pulls in a move Chris isn’t braced for. The tugs cause him to nearly lose his balance. Knowing he has to answer, he hisses through his teeth, “Be there in a minute hun, just a bit busy.”
Your footsteps change from heading towards the garage to stopping with your question. “Is everything okay Chris?”
“Yeah, just need to grab this thing first before I come and help you.” As he gives three tugs on the jeans to pull Dodger back to him. To their surprise the puppy moves within a foot of his dad.
 “If you're sure?”
“Yeah, it’s fine.” Chris says, voice exhausted and strained. “Come on buddy, just give me the jeans!” He whispers to Dodger. Both parties give more and more tugs, trying to get the other to let go. During this war, they both pull at the same time, both using all their strength to pull the jeans their way. The sound of bags being placed in the kitchen and footsteps coming and going surround them, panic and fear of if or when you will try and find Chris and see this scene, makes him put more into the next few tugs. In doing so he hears a rip, and as Chris looks to the jeans he watches in horror as the jeans start to rip from the main crutch.
The more Dodger tugs, the more the ripping noise and the rip gets bigger until the material can’t take the tugging and pulling from either side and it gives. The jeans tear in two, the sudden shock of the material giving causing both to fall on their bottoms. Dodger lets out another muffled bark and his tail wags in high gear, thinking he’s won the game. He gets up on all fours and starts to jump and run around in joy, what was left of the jeans in his mouth.
All noise in the kitchen stops. “Chris, what was that noise? What was that ripping noise?” Your footsteps make their way towards the lounge room and as you stop just behind your husband, Dodger seeing you and running to her to show you his prize. Chris can just imagine your face, the look of surprise and giving Dodger rubs and scratches.
Then your eyes see the jeans with a look of confusion and then horror. “Hun what’s this in Dodger’s mouth? they look familiar? Are they- Are they my pair of jeans that I can’t find anywhere else? The jeans that I had bought online and had them delivered to my mom’s house, and then had her deliver to me here? The ones that I have tried to find more pairs and I can’t get any as they are so popular?” As you turn around to look at him with the other leg of the jeans, she gasps at the site of the jeans ripped in two.
Chris immediately starts talking, not stopping to breathe. “Babe I can explain! Really, I forgot about Dodger and the wardrobe door was open as I went to get Mikey ready for the day, and I remembered seeing him enter our room, and next thing I know he had the pair of jeans with him and I tried I really did to get them back, have him give them to me but nothing worked-” Your hazel green/brown eyes lock onto his, the hazel as completely gone and the green in your eyes was in full force. That only happened when either your temper was in full force or when you were emotional or just randomly sometimes depending on your mood.
He sighs, trying not to moon too much, but god he loves it a bit when you lose a bit of your temper- and when you went on a rant, he couldn’t help but find it a bit of a turn on.
Getting back to the scene before you, you sighed and closed your eyes, taking deep calming breaths and knowing that getting mad wasn’t going to solve this problem. You know you needed to keep your blood pressure down as your left hand moves to your slightly swollen belly with twins inside, rubbing in soothing motions. With a deep breath your eyes open and look to the ceiling in frustration before coming down to both Chris and Dodger. Not too far apart Dodger notices the tension in the air and knows something is wrong as his mom looked at him in disappointment, making him hang his head in shame as he knows he’s in trouble.
“Chris, I warned you about that, geez!”
“I can’t do what you do! You have this secret power over Dodger, you tell him to sit and he sits, you give him the look and he just obeys! It’s a thing to behold!”
Laughing in frustration you look at him. “It’s because I have had years of experience with naughty dogs and cats. I know how sneaky, smart and manipulative they are with their puppy dog eyes and how successively Dodger uses it on you. For example, it’s all about the tone and making sure you’re letting your dog know who is alpha in the pack.”
You look straight at Dodger. “Dodger!” You call in a slightly lower tone. “Look at me, Dodger!” The pup looks at you, and you hold out your hand. “Release.” Dodger looks at his mom and gets up, walking a bit towards you and dropping the jeans into your hand before backing up. “Sit” He sits, and you walk towards him and slowly go down on one knee, and looking Dodger in the eyes and giving his head a pat. “Good boy,”
You give that spot behind his ears a good scratch that gave him a bit of ecstasy as you pull away and slowly get back up again. You look at your husband and let out a laugh, his face was in not only shock but he knew his eyes had a glazed look about them, as seeing you doing that made him fall in love with you all over again. Looking straight at you he says, “God I love you!”
Letting out another laugh you just smile and shake your head in exasperation. “We’ll talk about this later. Can you bring it the heavy stuff in please?”
“What? I thought you promised me you weren’t going to do any heavy lifting?”
“I didn’t, I got one of the staffers at the store to place them in the car!” You protest.
As Chris rises and moves to greet you with a hug he leans his head against yours, breathing in your shampoo as he turns his head and kisses your temple. He puts his forehead against yours to look into your eyes, hands cradling your face. “I love you so much babe.” He leans back and has his hands move to your belly as he goes down on one knee. He leans his face to your belly. “Good morning little ones, Daddy says hi and love you very much!” He smooths his hands over it, and his hand touches the side of her belly that makes your whole body twitch and jerk. Chris always insists it’s your ticklish spot, but it is more of him touching a part of you that hits a nerve in you back.
“Stop it,” You laugh, whacking him in the shoulder. Glancing up at you with a devilish smirk, his face lets you know he has plans for you and those sensitive spots you have on your body tonight. He raises his eyebrows suggestively, and you smirk. “Besides, you still need to bring the rest of the things inside.”
Grinning, Chris rises with his hands still on your belly. “Mommy wants me to show off my muscles by doing the heavy lifting.” He brings up his arms to flex said muscles.
“Huh? Yeah hunny, as much as all this and you turn me on, can you bring the last of the shopping in please? I am heading to the toilet, I really need to go.” You quickly move towards the bathroom. When you finish you look to Dodger. “Come on buddy, let's bring the stuff inside before Mikey wakes up from his nap time!”

Realtek ALC1220 vs Sound BlasterX AE-5 - Corrected Results
Some of you may remember that about two months ago, I posted my findings when pitting my motherboard's audio solution against my new Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5. While the results were certainly interesting, some with similar setups and more knowledge on the subject were quick to point out that my results were not typical.
Quick Background In my first post, I deemed my results atypical after tons of feedback from users, perhaps audiophiles, who are more well-versed in the world of audio, and a few that actually had a very similar setup to me. My original conclusion was that my motherboard's audio was measurably awful when gaming compared to my new Sound Card. For information and results, please refer to the link in the first paragraph. After running the same benchmark on a friend's computer with a very similar combination of hardware and achieving similar results, some other users and I came to the conclusion that the common factor between the audibly poor performing motherboard solutions was our video card: An AMD RX Vega 56. I have since replaced my Vega 56 with a Radeon VII.
Test Setup and Methodology
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming Motherboard
AMD Radeon VII (Stock, power draw is 280W vs the 275W my Vega 56 pulled)
FSP Group Hydro G 650W Power Supply
Windows 10 64-Bit
ASUS calls the audio chip on this motherboard the SupremeFX S1220, which is really just a Realtek ALC1220. I had the ALC1220 set to 24-bit bit depth and a 96,000 KHz Sampling rate on both tested devices. This was not the case in my original test.
I ran the benchmark twice for both the motherboard audio chip and the AE-5. One while idling on the desktop and one with the GPU under load. I mainly did this to see how adversely my audio experience was being effected by the amount of noise generated by my GPU. To put the GPU under load, I used Unigine's Heaven benchmark in windowed mode (1440p) so I could run the audio benchmark simultaneously. I used a brand new 4-foot (~1.2m) gold-plated aux cable that I grabbed on Amazon and plugged it into the speaker output on my motherboard, and looped it back into the line-in input. On the Sound Blaster, I used the same cable, plugged it into the speaker output, and looped it back into the microphone input on the card. The sound card does not have a dedicated Line-In input like my motherboard does, but the manual does state that the microphone input can also act as a Line-In input. This is confirmed in the Sound Blaster Connect 2 software, where you can specify whether or not you are using the microphone input as a microphone or line-in. And YES, this does make a difference. I achieved much better results when having the software properly set to Line-In.
Quick Disclaimer (again) Each system is different. Everyone's setup and environment is unique, so the results below are unique to my system. While I'm sure we can all guess that the Sound BlasterX AE-5 provides a better audio experience than motherboard audio, it's possible that some motherboard audio implementations sound better than others and some sound cards will perform better or worse in some setups.

Once again, I've created an Imgur Album of the results compared with each other. Additionally, if you'd like to take a look at the graphs, raw numbers, etc. I've uploaded the benchmark results and the comparison of the two audio chips to Google Drive. You can even load the .sav file for the benchmarks into Rightmark Audio Analyzer and compare your own system against my results if you'd like.
Final Thoughts
As before, I won't talk about my subjective listening experience too much. I actually just re-enabled the Onboard Audio in the BIOS and installed the drivers for this test alone, then reverted my changes. I did not game or listen to music with the Onboard Audio.
These results are much more in line with what other users were able to produce with similar setups and thus, these results are much more typical if you were to switch from onboard sound to an AIB sound card. The onboard sound during idle is very impressive, actually going toe-to-toe with the Sound Blaster in most areas, if not topping it slightly. The interesting bit is when the GPU is under load. While the onboard audio was certainly adversely effected, the Sound Blaster managed to produce extremely similar results when compared to it's idle performance. So, the audio experience will sound nearly identical when idle on desktop, browsing the web, or during gaming. This also proves that the Vega 56 in my system was the cause of the extreme amount if interference and noise when conducting the original test. Pretty wild.
I hope this comes as helpful to someone wishing to compare motherboard audio versus a Sound Card or other solution and illustrates how other components in your computer can have an effect on sound quality. I will be editing the first thread with a link to this one, so that it not be confused for fact or a typical experience. Again, if anyone has any questions, comments, etc. please feel free to speak up. I'm in no way a professional reviewer. I didn't repeat the tests several times and average the results. I mainly preformed these tests just out of shear curiosity.
Let me know what you guys think!

I tend to get obsessive researching this type of thing, so, I thought sharing my tech/service provider list would be helpful to some of you out there. WARNING: this is a very long post.As a new business, a website is a must IMO. I was a marketing major in undergrad, and I learned that website speed is crucial along with remembering the main purpose for your website (capturing leads). For hosting, I use a managed VPS service provider called Cloudways. A VPS server is much more responsive than the traditional shared hosting (think GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc.) because it’s a sectioned off piece of the server that you get 100% of the resources (memory and processor). However, a VPS server is more complicated because you need to keep the hosting software and hardware in harmony and updated. You usually need to know some code commands. HOWEVER, the reason why Cloudways is great is because they manage the VPS server for you. Which means, you really don’t need to know anything about the server. Cloudways is $10 per month and is a steal of a deal. They also provide free SSL certificates which is absolutely required in today’s digital age.Once you’ve got your hosting figured out, you then have your host install Wordpress. Wordpress is the bones to your website, and it is the most popular content management system in the world. It’s free and has a huge community of developers that make wonderful enhancements to Wordpress. In my opinion, Wordpress is the only option (some of the reasons include SEO, speed, flexibility, support community, ease of use, etc.)Now that you’ve got the bones of your website, you need to make it look pretty. Wordpress has many website theme options. Some are free and some cost money. I use a premium theme called Astra. It’s fast, lightweight, SEO friendly, ADA compliant, and it has many pre-built websites that you can use. I’ve used Astra to build my personal injury website, which you can see here. Before I installed tracking code (Facebook, Google, LiveChat, CallRaill, etc.) it was loading at pre-1 second times. It now takes 1.5 seconds to fully load, but, visual things will load quicker than the full 1.5.I also use a page builder add-on for my Wordpress site development. A page builder makes it easier to arrange visual website elements and make changes to your website. It essentially turns it into drag and drop and it cuts out the need for a web developer to edit/tweak your website. I use elementor, which is built to work extremely nicely with the Astra theme.Eventually, every new business can use a nice-looking logo. I researched many logo designers that did great work and at a good price. I tend to like clean, minimalistic logos. I found a Macedonian designer that I liked on Fivver. I paid $267.75 and got two design concepts that were very good. You can view my finalized logo here.I have run Google Ads to landing pages that I created with Elementor on my website. Conversions dramatically improved when I installed live chat on my website. There’s a little pop-up that asks visitors if they were injured in an accident. I researched and used multiple live chat providers, but my favorite is LiveChat. It costs me $45 a month and it just converts so well.In order to get my virtual phone number and my virtual fax number, I went with Twilio. This is a service provider that I’m crazy about. They are a little overwhelming because they provide so many services, but they are worth it. They check all numbers to make sure that they are “clean” (that they haven’t been used for spam) before they sell them to you. I played a little game that they offer, and they gave me $50.00 in credits. In 4.5 months, my $50 still hasn’t run out and I purchased 2 digital lines and I get charged for every text, fax, and every minute on my phone.Once I had a phone line, I knew I needed 24/7 call answering. Boy did I hit a grand slam with my provider. After intense research, I found AnswerFirst. I dare anyone to find a better deal than these guys. I get charged $40 flat fee and then $1.15 per minute. They answer on the first or second ring and follow my script: “Welcome to (Law Firm), are you calling for a free consultation?” If they are, these guys take down their info, text and e-mail it to me, and forward the phone call to my desk phone. They do the same if it’s a lawyer or current client. Anyone else, they take down their info and send it to me, but they don’t transfer the call. I believe the workers are stay-at-home employees out of Florida. If you’re OK with a different voice every time, this company is such a high value add.At a previous job, I learned that texting customers is a huge win. I often get texts instead of e-mails / calls from my clients. Since I didn’t want to hand out my personal cell, I connected Textable with my virtual phone number. Honestly, it was a little bit of a hassle and I’m not crazy about this solution. However, it’s free and it works OK. I probably need to find a better solution here. If you want to go this route, I can help you, but, be prepared with some patience.Since some insurance companies and doctor offices operate in the olden days, so I needed to have reliable fax. I love going with internet-based fax, it is so convenient. I use RedFax and highly recommend them. There is a $4.99 option that gets you 600 pages of faxes per month. I connected my Twilio fax number with this company and it took maybe 4 days. I have never missed a fax, to my knowledge, and it sends everything in PDF form to my e-mail. I just upload PDFs and it faxes them for me. I can fax multiple things at the same time. It’s just beautiful. Also, they have a HIPAA compliant option.Because I am still in lean start-up mode, I use a very low-cost Customer Relation Management (CRM) software. I wanted something that was simple to use, allowed me to enter notes about contacts, track leads in various stages, connect with my calendar and e-mail, was mobile friendly, and had a nice interface. Honestly, I had a hard time finding a CRM that I liked. I tried too so many and wasted a lot of time. In the end, I found LACRM. This one checks all my boxes. It is $10.00 per month and I love it. HOWEVER, this is not a good CRM for people that want to automate tasks / drafting / e-mails / texting. One day I think I will upgrade to an injury specific CRM system that will automate things for me. But for now, this one just works so well for me.My least favorite start-up task was setting up my accounting system. This stage really sucks (especially setting up trust accounting). After poking around at various options, I kept reading that accountants strongly prefer Quickbooks. It is so widely used that I don’t think there is another option IF you plan on having an accountant look over your books. I use Quick Books Online and it costs me about $25 a month. I actually like it now that it’s all setup and configured. But I still can’t wait until I can outsource bookkeeping. As far as setting up e-mail with my domain name, I turned to Office 365. The process took me awhile to figure out, but I ended up succeeding so now I don’t have to use Gmail, AOL, Hotmail, etc. Another big benefit of using Office 365 is that I get Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. as well as their cloud hosting. I save all my documents / client files to the cloud. My office is basically paperless, which is so convenient. I researched Microsoft’s up-time, security, HIPAA compliance, and back-up procedures. I was very satisfied, and I feel comfortable relying on them. I know some folks use Gmail for this type of thing, but I believe having Word is important. I pay $16.50 a month for all the things they provide me.For my business Internet, I went with Comcast and it was cheaper with a landline. I use that number as my private desk phone number. I wasn’t planning on this, but, I’m glad it worked out this way. This required me to find a desk phone that I liked along with a wireless headset. I wanted one with an answering machine and the ability to conference call. I honestly don’t think there are great options for landlines anymore. It seems like the best phone systems are for VOIP. Anyways, I ended up with this phone and this wireless headset. Both have worked just fine for me and they were cheap.Well, that’s it for now. I hope this was helpful to someone out there. I made a goal to hit 100 positive Google reviews by the end of March for my new law firm, so, shoot me a message if you’d feel comfortable pounding 5 stars. Thanks, and let me know if you have questions about any of this.

For more than 40 years, Barney Bentall has been making music and hitting the road to play. It’s been so much a part of his life that when we asked what it is that keeps him going, he told us that it’s the calm that he feels when he plays. He said that he’s been doing it for so long that he can find this comfort and calm on stage. And while he knows that it might sound off to someone who’s just starting out and feels anxious or their nerves kick in before they play, that’s how it feels for him.
As we spoke about the music industry and his career, and the careers of younger artists, Barney Bentall was open about the fact that he’s a willing mentor. He told us that he’s not going out looking to push his ideas or thoughts on people, but artists like JJ Shiplett, Leeroy Stagger, and his son Dustin Bentall are all welcome to as much advice or wisdom as they’ll let him share. With the longevity and success that he’s experienced in his own career, we have a feeling he’s sharing some pretty good information.
He also said that one of the big reasons he’s more than willing to give those thoughts is that he didn’t have anyone to do that for him when he was early in his career. He and his bandmates were mostly left to their own devices, made to make decisions they didn’t have any experience with and left with the consequences.
We’ve had two chances to see Barney Bentall live in the last few years. Most recently, Trish caught his show in October 2017 at The Dakota Tavern where the room was packed, the vibe was perfect, and just us mentioning the show put a smile on Barney’s face. That night Bentall was playing songs from his most recent album, The Drifter & The Preacher. And if the feeling in the room that night was special, it was more than partly because that album is so good.
Related: The Drifter and The Preacher, Barney Bentall at The Dakota Tavern
The second time was almost exactly five years ago, back in January 2013 at The Rivoli in Toronto. Dustin Bentall & The Smokes opened for Lindi Ortega that night, and in the middle of the younger Bentall’s set, Barney was called up to join the band for a rendition of Three Thousand Miles.
Aside from music, we found ourselves talking to Barney Bentall about horses and roping and rodeo. He told us that for a time he was involved in team roping, and while he had a lot of fun, he realized the dangers of being hurt, losing fingers, and not being able to go back to music were too much. It was also interesting when he told us that at his first rodeo, the nerves and excitement were flowing through him so much that he’s sure the horse could feel it. It was a stark contrast to the feeling of calm he talked about the stage giving him earlier in our chat.
Note: He also beamed with pride when talking about his son Dustin’s career in music and in the custom boot-making business that he’s got in Toronto.
Sitting down with Barney Bentall was everything we expected and then some. He’s a veteran of the music business who has seen massive changes in how everything works. He continues to tour and play his music, acknowledging that he’s thankful for having the energy to do it. And he’s still drawing inspiration from other artists, which keeps him moving forward with his own music.
On Thursday night in Toronto, Barney Bentall will take the stage alongside artists including Kevin Fox, The Good Brothers, Lori Cullen, The Young Novelists and more at Hugh’s Room for the 15th and final edition of The Way We Feel, A concert celebrating the songs of Gordon Lightfoot. The four-night event runs January 10-13, and as of now, there are limited tickets still available.
While we had Barney Bentall with us, we got him to play a round of 5 Quick Questions with us, where we learned what his go-to road trip album is, where he’d love to play, and which artists he recommends right now.
Check it out!

How to Launch Your E-Commerce Empire for $100 (or Less)
No, it’s not a clickbait title and yes, starting with $100 can get you an actual running store.
In this article I’ll go through every step you need to take to get your store up and running and explain the costs involved.
Granted, to keep the costs down you’ll do all the heavy lifting but hey, nothing worthwhile ever comes easy so let’s dive right in…
1. The Product
It might feel odd for some that I would go about explaining how to launch a $100 store and start with the product but truth is, the site, domain, logo everything needs to be tailored to fit the product you are trying to sell. The success or failure of your business will rely on your ability to select the correct product and the right market so don’t skip over this step.
Here’s a quick way to validate your idea: Go to Google Trends and type in a word that describes your product, eg: “phone case” or “headlights”. You’ll see in a graph below how much interest there is in a particular region like the US. Keep in mind you can also see the results of Worldwide searches but if you are going to target a particular region I’d advise you look there. Look for trends going up or have a steady above 40 interest. That’s what you are looking for.
A couple of years ago I launched a business selling baby and toddler related toys, clothes, etc. When I looked at Google Trends I remember doing around 40 different searches and seeing what my audience was looking for to get a proper understanding of what my target audience looks for and what types of products I need to add to the store.
A second, yet just as important step here is to look for what your competition does, how they address their customers and look for negative feedback from their users. See what they do wrong and aim to improve on those aspects specifically.
Cost: $0
2. The Domain
So you found your product and market. Good for you. Now you need to get the domain that will bring in your flock of loyal customers and though it might sound irrelevant, the domain can really hurt you if you don’t get the right one.
So what makes a good domain name?
Good question. It’s hard to decide if you want to get something brandable or get some keywords in the domain name. If you end up using keywords in the domain name you’d give your viewers a clear idea of they’ll be getting when seeing your store but what if you want to pivot? What if you find out 6 months in, that the store is selling more than just whatever your keyword in the domain is. If your aim is to build a strong brand, then by all means, put your brand name in the domain.
In regards to the TLD (Top-level domain) you choose, get a “.com” if your audience is worldwide, and go local if you are targeting a specific country. It’s as simple as that.
Other than that, keep your domain name short, be unique and unless you have no other choice, avoid hyphens.
As far as providers go I usually stick to Godaddy.com or namecheap.com, both are great services with good service and solid support.
Cost: $10
3. The Platform (Self-Hosted Solution vs SaaS)
I could probably talk for the next hour on why you should pick one CMS or another, why you can go serverless or use a traditional hosting or even if you should go for a SaaS option or not, but I won’t go into that much detail. Instead, I’ll touch briefly on each subject and only talk about the main “players” in each category.
We’ve seen, the past few years, an explosion of E-commerce SaaS options, some better than others yet the fact that almost every week you hear about a new SaaS in this segment makes me think there’s still room for innovation.
What are the benefits of having a SaaS? Basically, you get to launch your store exponentially faster. You basically signup, add your products, set up payments and delivery options and you are good to go.
Before I get swarmed by angry mobs yelling at me for not talking about their favorite e-commerce platform provider, I want to point out that I’ll limit this article to only two SaaS platforms, that I think, are different enough to give you a wider perspective on how far you can actually go choosing an e-commerce SaaS.
SaaS
Number 1: the king of e-commerce SaaS: Shopify, an easy to use platform that will make sense for most people needing a simple shop with no need for a whole lot of customization. There’s a ton of support for it, themes, plugins and customizing your shop is really easy.
Number 2: a newer player in the SaaS space, yet special: Blugento, a simple to use SaaS, similar to Shopify in this regards, the difference being that behind the curtains, there a fully functioning Magento platform doing the heavy lifting. (I’ll talk about Magento as a self-hosted platform below.) The main benefit of Blugento is the scalability of the store, something lacking from all other providers and an aspect that’s incredibly important.
Self-hosted solutions are dime a dozen and they differ from one another by a number of differences but perhaps the most important one is the community surrounding it. This is a crucial factor for you and your store. Since you are reading a “$100 e-commerce site” article you probably can’t rely on a big team of in-house developers that you can breed, educate, and have lying around until that inevitable time when your site will go down.
And it will. It will crash in the most unexpected way at the most inconvenient time…
Cost: around $50/month
Self-Hosted CMS
…that’s why I’m going to only talk about the two biggest platforms, Magento and WooCommerce. They are both immensely popular with crazy big communities around them, testing, developing and pushing the platform to the limits.
Number 1: Magento has been around since 2008 and it quickly became a favorite amongst developers even if, at the time, there were bigger and more popular e-commerce CMS. Magento is not going to be for everyone, hosting costs are going to be higher, development is more complicated but in return, you get a versatile store with a lot of room for customization and it scales gracefully so when your business grows, your store can grow with it handling hundreds of thousands of products without a problem.
Number 2: WooCommerce is on the other side of the spectrum, easy to install, development is easy and you get a ton of free plugins and themes. Since it runs on top of WordPress development is cheap and it’s relatively easy to find developers to work on the store adding extra features. Compared to Magento, the management of inventory and orders is faster and easier but after about 50K products added to your store, you’ll have to think about upgrading to something like Magento.
Both self-hosted options described above will need a hosting company before they can see the light of day. I personally recommend going with hostgator.com or siteground.com but there are a ton of great choices out there.
Installing either platform is easy as both hosting providers offer tools for installing Magento or WordPress through a simple point and click wizard. No more messing with the console, creating databases and editing confusing PHP files.
Cost: $0 for the platforms, between $10 – $25 / month for hosting
Serverless
I’d be remiss not to mention serverless in this discussion as this is something that has been talked a lot about in the recent months and we’ve seen big names in E-commerce move their operations to the cloud, companies like Zalora.
Zalora moved everything to AWS, website, mobile apps, warehouse operations, everything is running off of EC2, S3, Lambda, and RedShift. They are the biggest retailer in Asia with over 20 million users and yet, their entire infrastructure development team is composed of 3 people, which for anyone understanding the difficulties running such a large website can say it’s amazing!
This is done through AWS Lambda, a service launched by Amazon that lets you upload small pieces of code that work as microservices, called functions—hence the term Functions as a Service or FaaS. They basically do a very specific task that your website triggers, returning a simple result. The technology behind it promises to allow developers to build websites and apps without having to worry about the backend or the infrastructure, all while keeping the costs at an all-time low.
There are three big reasons for switching to a serverless framework: cost, development speed and scalability. There are companies saving tens of thousands of dollars a month after switching to serverless and an average of 77% faster delivery speed of the products. Check out this case study on how serverless saves money in comparison to traditional hosting solutions.
Poor website performance is now measured in terms of lost customers and revenues

4. Branding
If I’d were to say branding is important I’d be grossly understating it. I will say that a solid logo and branding will make up the foundation of your successful store. So how can you build one that reflects your company’s image while still looking professional? Well, the easy way would be to throw money at it, but we don’t roll like that, so we’ll be doing this ourselves.
The first place to start is to look for inspiration and you do this by going through design and branding websites looking at the current trends, tutorials and any tips or tricks that will help you in this endeavor. My suggestion would be to start with sites like hipsthetic.com or designoholic.com and then try to expand your search to Pinterest.
Alright, you now have an idea of what you need but you aren’t going to pay a couple of hundred dollars per month for Photoshop because that will blow the entire budget we’ve set for ourselves. So what we do is we sign up with Canva.com. It’s free and it will get you started quite fast. After watching a 1-minute tutorial you’ll be ready to start creating your first logo.
Don’t stop at one. Make two or three and show them to a couple of friends to get feedback. After picking the winner get back to Canva.com and make a few more: one that has transparency; one that is all black; and one that is all white. You can use the color one for your website and the rest you’ll use to watermark catalog images (I don’t really recommend using watermarks on product images but if you absolutely have to, place them in a corner somewhere) business cards, social media posts, etc. You get the point.
Cost $0
5. First Marketing Steps
Alright, we almost made it. There’s only one little step ahead of us. And by little I actually mean the most important thing you’ll end up doing for your business.
SEO
Let’s start with something basic: on page SEO, sounds easy enough, right? Well, not exactly. There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to SEO and I won’t have time to go into much detail but I will let you with this awesome infographic that will teach you pretty much all you need.
Social Media
You probably know this by now, SM is a tool that you can leverage to get in front of the right customers. Start posting on a regular basis but be careful not to alienate your readers with overzealous posts promoting products. I recommend people use the 8 + 2 rule. You provide 8 pieces of useful content, regardless if it’s on your site or not. Content like tutorials, tips and tricks, peer reviews, etc. Don’t be afraid to test the water with this strategy, find out what your users like and with that type of content they interact and start sharing.
Content Marketing
This will be your bread and butter for the next few months. It’s crucial to have a blog where you can share your experiences and knowledge with your peers. As part of the content marketing efforts, you’ll have to do guest posts. Find like minded people who own blogs and start pitching ideas for guest posts. Most blog owners are fairly easy to reach and communicate with so I highly advise you do this. Guest blogging on small blogs is a great way to reach new audiences but perhaps even better than that would be to go on Medium.com. It’s a great platform to publish content, with a ton of viewers, so I’d strongly suggest you try it out.
6. Advertising
So if my math is correct after getting set up with your website domain and host you’d be left with $30 to $40. I’d advise you drop a few dollars in Facebook ads. It’s easy to do, you don’t need to spend money on a consultant and Facebook has a bunch of tutorials on this. What I’d suggest you do is select the best products you have in your store and create a carousel. Have at least 4 products in there. Select a small audience with the demographic that fits your niche and place a $5 limit on the ad spending. You’ll have around a week to tweak the ad and if you have the right combination of audience and product, chances are you’ll have made your first sell by now.
The Grand Total
If you do the math, going with a self-hosted solution will cost around $50 to host ( for a 5 or 6 month period), add to that $ 10 for the domain and you get to $ 60. You’ll have to host it yourself, do all the maintenance and configuration but you get to have about 6 months to make up your investment.
Going with a SaaS will cost around $60 but you will be done and ready to go in a couple of days which is great if you don’t want to spend time learning to code or set up a CMS. The downside here is that your $50 will cover only that first month which adds to the pressure of making a few sells (which shouldn’t be a problem).

EliteSingles review: A dating site with curated matches, meant for a more mature crowd
Tumblr media
There are a *lot* of online dating options these days, particularly dating apps. They all try to stand out in their own way, whether it be catering to a certain niche or type of person, or offering a special feature or service. But the one thing they all have in common: the promise to up your chances of finding that special someone.
SEE ALSO: The best hookup apps for casual daters
EliteSingles is one of those options that claims to have found the online formula for love, particularly for working professionals looking for real relationships. We'll see about that.
EliteSingles is pretty easy to operate. The site matches singles mainly based on a personality assessment modeled after the Five Factor Model theory. Based on your personality and other factors (like age, occupation, and location), the site then sets you up with 3-7 compatible matches per day. This means that unlike sites like OkCupid and Match, you can't peruse the pool for potential love interests but instead have to wait until EliteSingles delivers matches to you.
Once you've matched with people, browse through their profiles. Your options for reaching out are diverse yet simple. You can send a smile (basically an emoji) that lets someone know you're interested, a message, or simply save them to your "favorites" in case you're not ready to reach out quite yet. You get variety in a simple, easy-to-use format.
While this could be good for those who don't have the time to constantly scroll through a dating site and are looking for more of a matchmaker service, those who have grown accustomed to filling the time with swiping through an app in search of a date may become a bit antsy.
Key Features:
Personality profile based on Five Factor Model
Verified profiles (to eliminate frauds and scammers)
Partner suggestions (3-7 matches per day)
Upload/view photos
Send and receive messages to other members
EliteSingles Magazine: A blog that offers tips and tricks for dating
Pricing:
Free basic account: $0
3-month membership: $89.85 / month
6-month membership: $69.95 / month (40% savings)
12-month membership: $49.95 / month (50% savings)
Not for millennials
EliteSingles seems to constantly brag that 82% of their members are college grads. Most of its members are 33-50 years old, so it's definitely geared less toward the Tinder-using generation and more toward those in the "working professional" category. Sorry college kids. This ain't for you.
I originally planned to scroll through the EliteSingles app (because it's 2018), but upon looking for EliteSingles on the app store (I have an iPhone, like the other 45% of cellphone users in America), I noticed it was nowhere to be found.
After some quick research (aka a search in the iTunes store), I couldn't find the app anywhere, and was disappointed. [EDITOR'S NOTE: We've been told that the app is down at the moment for some editing, but it'll be back soon.]
I resorted to using the desktop version on my laptop in the mean time, which made me feel like I was taking part in the early days of online dating before apps made it more socially acceptable for young people to do this stuff. Although since the clientele for this dating site seems to skew older, perhaps the lack of an app isn't the worst thing.

Making a profile
As if there were any doubt in my mind before, the profile setup process convinced me that we are far from the instant gratification world of Tinder. The EliteSingles profile building process — which includes filling in your basic info plus taking the personality test — is lengthy. But I can get behind a lengthy questionnaire. Its purpose seems logical: the more the site knows about me, the more likely it'll be able to find me a good match, right?
However, filling out the personality test definitely raised some questions for me as far as accuracy goes. Not to mention, some were also repetitive — or just downright awkward to answer.

In one of the first sections, EliteSingles asks you to rate your own appearance in specific categories, asking how the following attributes apply to you: trendy, attractive, overweight, sexy, and plain. Since questions like these are entirely subjective (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all), it seems as though uploading picture should suffice. Shouldn't my potential love interests be able to decide these things on their own?
Getting past the initial awkwardness, some categories raised an eyebrow in a different way. Questions that asked me to determine how "rational," "opinionated," and "selfish" I am seem difficult to answer.
Signing up for a dating site is all about trying to put your best self forward. I hardly believe that anyone — even those who are aware that they're selfish — are going to put their bad traits on display if they can help it. It's the equivalent of choosing the unflattering double-chin photo as your main profile picture.
I filled out the survey to the best of my ability, although it became especially tedious when they started repeating questions. The questions covered everything from my satisfaction with myself, to how I behave in social situations, to how important certain character traits are to me in a partner. All-in-all the whole thing probably took me 30-45 minutes.
At the end, I received a detailed character analysis, which admittedly was kinda cool. It also explained the context behind the analysis and how each of the five categories applies to my life.
One of the drawbacks for the EliteSingles personality test though is that once it's done, you can't go back and tweak it or adjust your answers. All is not lost though, because following the personality test you have an opportunity to showcase your personality through a series of (even more) questions — these ones you fill out so that others can see what you've said in your profile.
Choose from 11 different prompts and put however many you want on your profile, or you can hit "random question" and have the site pick one for you.

Aside from uploading some pictures — you can add up to 24 and connect to Facebook to pull pictures from there if you'd like — your profile is pretty much done.
What we love about EliteSingles
One word: Options.
Although the dating site doesn't allow you to search willy nilly through all of its users, EliteSingles  provides multiple ways to find you a match. The dating site provides you with three main ways to find someone:
Matches: Every day, EliteSingles recommends 3-7 matches that it feels are compatible with your personality. It'll even show you how compatible you are (a score of 100 being a 100% match), as well as show you what things you have in common. We really like the fact that you can filter and narrow your matches based on height, distance, age, etc. So if you only want to see matches over 5'10" who live within 30 miles and have common interests, there's a filter for that.
Visitors: EliteSingles let's you know who's been creepin' on your profile. Hey, it's like the online version of catching the cute guy at work checking you out as you walk by his desk. Something about you caught their eye and made them pay your profile a visit, which can help you feel a bit more confident making the move to say hello. It's a lot easier to make the first move when you already know they're interested.
The Have you Met... feature: We really like this feature. "Have you met..." is basically a pool of candidates that fall slightly outside of your pre-chosen match filters, but still might be a good match for you in the eyes of EliteSingles. Why is this feature so great? Simple. Because sometimes we just don't know what the hell we want or need until it hits us in the face. You can make a checklist of traits that the perfect partner will possess, but do you really want to miss out on Mr. or Mrs. Right just because they're a couple years younger than your selected age range? This feature gives that person a second shot at catching your eye.
Room for improvement
While we did appreciate the detailed personality analysis, we're not completely sold on the accuracy of the results. This is mainly because people bend the truth when they need to look good. Perhaps we'd feel differently if someone were taking the Five Factor on their own out of curiosity, but setting up a dating profile is the time to put together your most impressive resume — not identify your personality flaws and tattoo them across your dating profile. People are filing this out knowing their answers are meant to make them appear attractive, so chances are you're not going to risk sharing something off-putting before you even get out of the gate.
While we love the fact that you can filter your matches based on distance, we think EliteSingles could've done a little better than setting 30 miles as the lowest option. For some, a 30-mile difference is a considerable commitment — especially for a first date. The ability to narrow this down to a smaller area would be especially helpful for people who live in cites. Cities that are filled with professionals. We'd at least like the option to narrow it down further, to 5 miles. (Hey, the entire island of Manhattan is only 13.4 miles long.)
EliteSingles claims to manually verify their profiles to avoid fake accounts, using SSL encryption and fraud detection technology. While this may help them identify scammers, it isn't stopping people from being dishonest on their profiles. I lied about my income and was never flagged, which makes me feel like I probably could've lied about other things, including my educational background, in order to seem more appealing.
While the EliteSingles personality test may be able to find out who you're compatible with, it doesn't focus much on who you're attracted to. The heart wants what it wants, but EliteSingles limits you to seeing only profiles that could be potential matches. So if you have a "type" that EliteSingles doesn't think you're compatible with, you may be out of luck. The flip side to this, of course, is that if you've been unlucky in love, perhaps you could use some help with selecting potential dates whom you may not have considered previously.
What are other people saying about EliteSingles
After reading through scores of reviews, we definitely saw a lot of complaints. Many people claimed that their matches were way off from the criteria they set, with a significant portion of that relating to distance. Others complained of difficulties cancelling their membership and poor customer service.
Datingsitesreviews.com user Jjm wrote:
However, among the dissatisfied users were some glimmers of hope. For example, user Deb from datingsitesreviews.com wrote:
Final thoughts
EliteSingles is far from a perfect dating site. On the plus side, it's focused primarily on professionals who are looking for something real, instead of a lot of other dating apps that cater to younger, hookup-minded audiences. The site was easy to navigate and the personality assessment was a cool feature that helps you learn a little bit about yourself.
On the downside, the sign-up process takes a while. The fact that you have to fill out the entire test before you're able to see what the site's all about could easily be a deterrent for some eager or impatient singles. Requiring users to invest time in the personality investment though can help to weed out people who aren't taking this whole online dating thing seriously. If they've carefully filled out a profile, then you know they're serious about finding a good match.
Also worthy of noting: the free version doesn't really get you anywhere. Without subscribing, you're basically only able to see the fact that you have matches and/or messages. User pictures are blurred and messaging is super limited. Also, from what we can tell from reviews and from our own list of matches, EliteSingles doesn't do the best job of abiding by your set criteria.
EliteSingles boasts over 13 million members worldwide, claiming that an average 2,000 couples pair off every month. Neither of those are small numbers, so if you're willing to put in the time to fill out a profile and risk weeding through some less-than-ideal matches or an annoying customer service experience, who knows, you may land on a gem.

Forget Guest Posting. Here’s Why Guest Podcasting is King.
email marketing advantages and disadvantages
You’ve probably heard the benefits of guest posting so many times you could rattle them off right now.
Guest posting can bring you increased exposure.
It can help build backlinks.
You can gain new trust with your audience.
Your content will reach a new group of individuals.
The list goes on and on.
But guest posting isn’t always the best way to expand your reach or improve your authority.
While it’s a powerful tool, sometimes it just misses the mark.
If you already have a solid blog strategy, guest blogging will only diversify your reach so much.
You’re creating new content, but it’s still just more of the same.
To truly expand your reach, you want to dip into new content forms – such as podcasting.
Appearing as a guest on another individual’s podcast can bring serious benefits to your marketing.
Let’s take a look at a few reasons why you should consider bringing guest podcasting into your content marketing mix.
1. You’ll reach an entirely new, engaged audience
One of the biggest reasons marketers choose to create a guest blogging strategy is to expand their audience and reach new potential customers.
You can get your name, insights, and information in front of an audience loyal to the site you’re posting on.
However, when creating guest blog posts, you’re still only targeting one group of people – those who like blog posts.
Unfortunately, not everyone enjoys reading.
To reach them, you need to create new forms of content.
Appearing as a guest on a podcast not only puts you in front of a loyal group of followers, it also opens the door on a whole new set of individuals who prefer to listen to their content.
About 4 in 10 Americans are tuning into podcasts.
This growing industry may be occurring for a number of reasons.
First, more and more users are turning to smart speakers for entertainment.
In fact, 30% of smart speaker owners said that they are using their speaker to replace time with their TV.
This tells us that more individuals are tuning into audio content in place of visual.
Customers are also more likely to come back to podcasts on their own.
In traditional blogging and web content, it isn’t likely that a customer will come back to your site to check on new content without some prompting.
However, many podcasts listeners are likely to tune in when they know a new show is available.
Some podcasts have even developed a cult-like following.
Take a look at the My Favorite Murder podcast, for example.
Their Facebook page alone has gained almost 200,000 likes.
On this page, listeners can discuss episodes, ideas, and share links for more information.
When guesting on a podcast with this kind of audience, the conversation doesn’t end when the show is over.
Associating your name with a podcast that is well loved within its community can also dramatically improve your brand’s awareness and credibility.
The benefits are similar to when you guest post.
First, your host will typically talk about your appearance on their social platforms.
While doing pre-show marketing, this can build some anticipation on who you are and what you’ll have to talk about.
Here’s an example from Pod Save America.
This update does a couple of things.
First, because this is a live recording of one of their podcasts, Pod Save America is using their guest as a marketing tool to sell more tickets.
However, alerting followers who maybe aren’t in the Las Vegas area of who the show’s guest is can get people excited.
Anyone interested in hearing what Jacky Rosen has to say can tune in.
You may even be able to get your host to share some of your content to help their listeners better understand why they should tune in.
Once the show airs, your host may continue to promote the recording through their social media.
If they have a unique account just for their podcast, this can increase your exposure.
Here’s an example from the podcast Live Over Exist and its host Alisha Nicole.
The Live Over Exist account has just a few hundred followers, meaning that one post could only reach so far.
But Alisha’s account has over 8,400 followers – dramatically increasing the number of individuals the content gets in front of.
While the posts are exactly the same, they’re going out to two potentially different audiences.
This gives you even more brand exposure, helping to improve your awareness.
As they continue to push their audience back to this post, they will associate your name, content, and brand with the show.
Being featured on a podcast can also help increase your backlinks.
Podcasts are typically located in a number of places.
First, the host may have their own unique website for their podcast. This is one place where you can secure a backlink.
Check out how Think Creative Collective displays their “Strategy Hour” podcast guests.
Not only does their guest Katie get a link to her website, but she also has an image, bio, and links to her social accounts.
Second, your host may feature their podcast on other streaming sites, such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
This may be able to secure you a backlink.
Guesting on a podcast at the right time can also help you sell books, promote a product, or even talk about a podcast or webinar of your own.
However, you should always discuss this with the host beforehand.
In most cases, they’ll want to help you out.
But you don’t want to go on their show and turn it into a sales pitch.
Instead, you can find ways to work with your host to ensure your messaging sounds natural and timely – while still making it clear you have something to sell.
2. You can improve trust, credibility, and relationships
Getting a guest post slot is great – especially if it’s on a high-traffic website.
But guest posting isn’t that exciting for your audience.
While you may be thrilled to be featured on a new website, your audience, business partners, or competition may not see it as that big of a deal.
This is because uploading a blog post to a website is pretty low risk.
Website owners can upload as many guest posts as they want.
But when it comes to podcasting, there’s much more competition to get featured.
Whether you’re coming on to talk about your brand or you’re providing an expert opinion, there was something in you that made the host want to have you on their show.
This kind of reaffirmation can improve trust and credibility with your audience – and give you something to brag about on your website.
Becoming a guest on a podcast can also help humanize you.
If you’re not used to appearing in videos or other audio forms of content, it can be challenging for your customers to put a name or face to your company.
Here are a few tips from Cracker Jack Marketing to keep in mind when trying to humanize your brand.
Just talking about your brand – rather than writing about it – can help your audience become more familiar with who you are.
As they get to know your personality, they can create stronger connections with you.
This can improve their relationship with your brand, potentially turning them into long-term customers.
Becoming a guest on a podcast can also create a stronger relationship with your host.
Unlike guest blogging, being a guest on a podcast forces you to have an actual conversation with your host.
While you might exchange a few emails with your guest post host, they don’t really get to know you.
Guest podcasting, on the other hand, encourages an in-depth dialogue that might last anywhere from 30 minutes to even an hour and a half.
In fact, the average podcast length is a little over 40 minutes.
This can allow you to establish a business relationship with your host.
You can open up new doors for future guest posting or podcasting opportunities, or even collaborate on bigger partnerships together, like a webinar or course.
3. You only need to put in minimal effort
When you’re a guest on a podcast, all you need to do is show up.
Sure, you’ll need to put a bit of planning into what you’re going to say or talk about, but you don’t need to worry about marketing, promotion, or listeners.
That’s all left to the host.
To make things even easier, you and your host will probably discuss what you’ll cover during your show time.
Your host might even tell you their questions early on or ask if you have any points you’d like to cover.
This allows you to come fully prepared, making your appearance a breeze.
When you’re a podcast guest, you also don’t need to worry about purchasing podcast equipment like microphones or editing software.
You’re also not responsible for hosting or production fees – which can become seriously expensive.
This is how Jeff Large at Come Alive Creative breaks down podcast expenses:
$100 – $300/hour for consultation and training
$10-50/month for membership sites
$500 – $1000/month for weekly episode editing
$1/minute for transcriptions
This brings the total to between $1200 and $4000 per month just to run your podcast.
And this is before any kind of marketing!
While there are some ways you can create a podcast on a budget, cutting corners may end up hurting you in the end.
But when you’re a guest, you don’t need to worry about these costs.
You just have to show up or call in for your segment.
Compared to a blog post, podcasting is a great way to get your name out there when you don’t have a lot of time to invest.
Writing blog posts or creating videos and infographics take a lot of time, editing, designing, and researching.
The commitment is even greater if you’re not naturally quick at producing those items.
However, with a podcast, you’re just there to talk.
Better yet, you’re there to talk about things you’re already an expert in.
You don’t need to worry about learning something new or teaching your audience how to do something.
Instead, you’re there to give your opinion and share your own thoughts.
Take this example of guest Nanine Nyman McCool sharing her experience on a podcast.
Nanine isn’t showing up on the Pantsuit Nation podcast to teach listeners something new or to try and persuade them one way or another.
Instead, she was featured as a guest to talk about a video and experience she captured at an event.
This allows for minimal preparation before appearing.
You’re also splitting your time with the host and their regular schedule.
While it will depend on the structure of the show you appear on, you may actually only be on-air for a few minutes.
Still, you can gain all the benefits of guest podcasting – from the promotion to the backlinks.
It will also be the host’s job to ensure the show is up to standards with their listeners.
You want to be a great guest and provide valuable insights, but the host isn’t likely to cut your entire segment if they don’t believe it is valuable.
Unfortunately, if you deliver a guest blog post they don’t like, they may shoot you away.
Appearing as a guest on a podcast is great for the entrepreneur always on the go looking to expand their reach or audience.
4. You’ll have loads of great, high-quality content at the end of your show
The podcast itself is a great form of content.
But podcasts are still a growing industry.
In fact, only 9% of respondents said they wanted to see more podcast content in the future.
But this doesn’t mean podcasting is a waste of time.
As we covered before, more and more individuals are becoming familiar with podcasting.
In fact, that number is projected to continue to climb in the next few years – increasing to 112 million by 2021.
But a podcast can become much more than a podcast.
You can also make so much more out of your appearance – even if you were only on air for a few moments.
Once a show is done, your host will typically want to share the content with their audience.
This most commonly is done in the form of podcast replays online.
However, they may also share a transcript of the video for individuals who would rather read or skim the contents.
Here’s an example of a full podcast transcript from ProBlogger.
Podcast listeners can either follow along or skim through to see if the information is relevant to them – similar to a blog post.
They may even choose to write a blog post related to the topics you talked about.
Others may share overviews of your conversation with timestamps.
Check out how Jason Calacanis, host of “This Week in Startups” does this on his personal blog.
Rather than just giving away all the content in a blog post or transcript, Jason points out key moments throughout the podcast that listeners can refer to.
This brings the attention back to the podcast while still appealing to individuals who may not want to listen to the entire show.
This is also a great way to pull quotes that you can then share on social or your website.
Some podcast hosts will even turn their podcast shows into YouTube videos, making it more accessible and easier to share online.
The Femtrepreneur Show takes live recordings of their podcasts to share as YouTube videos.
Participants can then share this video right on their social platforms, getting more engagement and attracting new audiences.
Going back to our graph of most desired content in the future, videos was number one.
By turning your podcast into a video, you can knock out two forms of content in one go.
Any kind of content your host creates can provide you with great materials for sharing on your own website or social platform.
Adding each of these pieces into your marketing mix can allow you to promote content without needing to actually create it yourself.
But you don’t have to be limited to only the content they’re creating.
If you find that your host is missing some content opportunities, you shouldn’t hesitate to reach out and see if you can produce something new.
When creating your own content, think of how you might want to present the conversation you’ve had.
This might be in the form of quotes on social media or a list of takeaways on your blog.
You can also dive a bit deeper to create a video or infographic about the topics you’ve covered.
When you’re pulling information directly from the podcast conversation, you can produce a high-quality, shareable piece of content without needing to do too much additional research.
You can also get your content shared with your host and their various social platforms – again, expanding your reach and helping you get in front of new audience members.
5. Your listeners are more likely to stay engaged until the end
With blog posts, infographics, or even videos, we frequently see that customers are leaving the content before they reach the end.
They skim – and they can miss out on some major points when they do this.
Not only that, but it can hurt your chances of making a strong first impression.
If a visitor only skims through the headers of your blog post, they’re not learning enough about you to stay engaged.
They’ll forget about you as soon as they leave the page.
But when it comes to podcasts, this isn’t exactly true.
In fact, 86% of podcast listeners make it to the end or almost to the end of each podcast episode.
Let’s think about why podcast listeners might be more likely to finish a podcast than a traditional reader.
First, podcasters are typically multitasking.
From this same study, we see that podcast listeners are mostly tuning in while at home or in the car.
Whether they’re driving to work or they’re cleaning the house, this additional action means they’re engaged in something else as they’re listening.
They’re busy, so they don’t have time to scroll.
This isn’t true when they’re online.
If they’re browsing the web, scrolling through their social media, or checking their inbox, there is always another piece of content waiting for them to finish.
This kind of anxiety might push them on to the next thing.
The inability to skim may also keep them on the podcast for the entire time.
Podcasts are similar to a movie where blog posts are like a book.
In a book, if you want to know what happens, you can flip to the last page and see how it ends.
A movie, however, is much more complicated.
Movie watchers – and podcast listeners – need to stick around to see how things pan out.
Sure, they may skip around and fast-forward here and there, but without any textual clues to know where they are in the program, it’s much more complicated.
When you have your audience engaged for the entire duration of the program, you can get deeper into your ideas.
This can improve your authority and help you prove to listeners that you know what you’re talking about.
Conclusion
Sure, guest posting should still be an important part of your marketing strategy.
But if you’re only focusing on how you can use blog posts to expand your audience, there are only so many new customers you can attract.
By expanding your reach into the world of podcasting, you can reach new individuals and dip into a new form of content.
Interviewing on another’s podcast is an easy, cheap, and effective way to expand your audience and generate new leads.

Forget Guest Posting. Here’s Why Guest Podcasting is King.

How to Make a Blockbuster Twitter Video for Your Business
If content is king, video is the crown jewel of the online world. Indeed, one million minutes of video will be shared online every second by 2021, According to Cisco. And by then, 82 percent of all internet traffic will be attributable to video.
Since it introduced video functionality, Twitter has become one of the most popular places people to watch, share, and talk about videos online. Since early 2016, tweets with video have increased by over 50 percent.
Here’s our guide to using Twitter video to grow and promote your brand.
Why use Twitter video?
It’s easy to see why video content is so popular. Video can engage, inform, entertain, and generally move people in a way other mediums struggle to.
From explainer videos to live streaming and brand stories, marketers have taken to video in a big way—and with great success. Wyzowl’s State of Video Marketing 2017 report found 79 percent of consumers now prefer video to text to learn about a product, and 84 percent have been converted into buyers through a brand video.
Our guide to social video and where it fits in your marketing plan provides more general video for business stats and advice. When it comes to Twitter marketing, there is a convincing case for building video into your plan. Here are five of the most compelling Twitter video stats for your next presentation:
Ninety-three percent of Twitter video views happen on mobile devices. This makes Twitter video an ideal way to reach consumers on their phones in real-time.
A Promoted Twitter video can take consumer action even further. Twitter users who watch a branded video are 28 percent more likely to buy.
Twitter videos get six times more retweets than photos, and three times more retweets than GIFs.
37 percent of Twitter users would like to see more Twitter videos from their favorite brands.

Twitter video tips and ideas for business
There are tons of ways to use Twitter video. You might tweet out videos your organization has created, retweet relevant video content your audience would find valuable, or explore ways to share real-time video on Twitter.
We can’t turn you into Steven Spielberg, but here are a few ideas and some best practices to help you get the most from Twitter video.
8 ways to use Twitter video
1. Reply to tweets
Responding to tweets demonstrates that your account is active and engaging with people, which may inspire new people to follow you.
Replying to a tweet with a video is a meaningful and creative way to engage with your audience. A video gives you room to surprise, delight, and hopefully inspire retweets. This can be especially useful in a customer service context. Replying to a specific query with a how-to video or live video message is much more engaging than a generic message.

2. Host Q&A sessions
Offering your audience the opportunity to ask questions directly via video, shakes up the Wizard-of-Oz-behind-the-curtain vibe and humanizes your brand. Twitter is an excellent place to host these sessions because of the millions of users engaging with the app at any given time. You can even do a live Q&A.

3. Share real-time updates and events
Periscope lets anyone broadcast live video on Twitter. You could do this from a fun promotional event or just an average—yet interesting—day at the office.
Live videos should feel like a conversation between you and the viewer. For example, if you are a craft brewer you could broadcast the pouring and tasting of the first pint from a new batch of freshly-brewed beer.
You can also do live tutorials, broadcast keynote speeches, award presentations, and live-stream other events your audience might find interesting.

  4. Educate and inform
Create a Twitter video to teach your audience something interesting about your brand or tell them something fascinating about the world. The secret is to be entertaining as well as informative, and captions are an excellent way to reinforce your messages without requiring your audience to listen to audio.
General Electric is one of the most prolific Twitter video brands.

5. Promote, advertise, and share teasers
Promoted Video on Twitter allows you to target specific, engaged consumers. With Twitter’s recent addition of auto-play, all videos automatically begin to play as users scroll through their timelines, encouraging interaction with the video by tap or click. If you are planning a live Twitter video event, use video teasers to promote it in the run-up to the big day.
  6. Offer exclusive content and behind-the-scenes peeks
Offering a sneak peek is a great way to generate excitement for your brand. A video that stirs up emotion, fascinates, or leaves the viewer in awe can prompt your audience to share and return for more great content. Food Network Canada is one of many brands using video to both promote themselves and provide interesting and shareable content.

— Food Network Canada (@FoodNetworkCA) January 1, 2018
7. Entertain
You can’t really go wrong if you create something truly entertaining. Old Spice went above and beyond with this hilarious video of a face painting robot. No doubt this video took time, effort, and creativity. Worth it? You decide.

And being entertaining can also be profitable, as Doritos UK proved with their video-heavy #BabyDragon Twitter campaign.

8. Collect and share user-generated content
People love to be recognized. Challenge your audience to submit fun videos around a brand-related theme and then reward them with replies and Retweets. A user-generated content campaign can take your social media marketing to the next level.
GoPro have an advantage in the video game for obvious reasons. Unsurprisingly, they make full use of user-generated video in their Twitter feed, which in turn encourages more people to tweet them with their own videos. Getting other people to create your content is a winning strategy on many levels.

7 ways to engage more people with Twitter video
1. Hook viewers in the first few seconds
You need to grab people’s attention quickly, especially on Twitter where so much other content is competing for your audience’s attention. The good news is that often viewers only need one second to be able to recall a memorable video.
2. Cut up longer videos into bite-size chunks
You put so much effort into creating content, it makes sense to get the most value from it. Chop up longer videos into small, standalone vignettes or GIFs to provide more fresh content. Twitter users love sharing short content.
3. Put people front and center
People respond to people. Twitter found that viewer retention doubles when people appear in the first few frames of a video. Short, people-focused videos can also help tell your company story and introduce your people to your customers—helping to humanize your brand.
4. Don’t be afraid of branding your videos
Videos with prominent branding in the first few seconds get the most attention, and adding a logo increases purchasing intent by nine percent.
5. Use captions to reinforce your messages
News organizations in particular are becoming adept at creating short videos that tell a story well even if the sound is off. The BBC, for example, makes good use of this technique.
Tommy was abused in a care home as a boy. Now, at 81, he's powering through a bucket list and making up for the childhood he never had. http://pic.twitter.com/DxFOjIudXU

6. Go live
You can’t beat a live Twitter video to increase brand affinity. It’s a great way to break down the barrier that often exists between customers and businesses.
7. Bring products to life
Video is the best way to bring products to life and show them in their natural habitat. Twitter video can help you sell products in a variety of ways—from different uses to how-to explainer videos.
