ALL THOSE CHAPTERS. Those were some damn rollercoasters. And yet with everything we've been through, we're finally here...

Let's get right into it

JACK FINALLY REUNITING WITH LEELATHAE!! Relationship goal fr <3 This whole Leelathae portrait stuff is actually making me curious about some things. For instance like, does Leelathe still sleep? I mean, she's pretty much a spirit now, right? Does she still do daily human acitivities, or does she roam around the castle all day?

It's awesome to see what the pastel siblings are doing now! :D

First of all, Lorena definitely deserve that A+++++. No questions asked. Hopefully this can make up for her whole grade, considering she said she has never gotten an A in her entire life XD

I love how Maria is becoming really ambitious towards her dream!

And Gwen bonding with her mom's side of the family <3 That is simply so sweet. It looks like Jamie love those food XD I wonder what are the recipes for those dishes.

Also pretty curious what those little beads are! I assume they are berries?

Is it rude for me to say that with what Beckett did before the invasion (ignore Frederick), and how he immediately decided to confess to Maria without any consideration for the room, he kindaa had it coming? xd I get that he was excited but don't just do that man.

Just wanted to say I absolutely love Lorena's outfit in this panel! Between all of the pastel siblings, her fashion style has always been my favorite. VOTE QUEEN LORENA WOOOOO!!!!

Leland not getting any visitors in the prison is honestly a really good punishment; a painful one too. How we see in the last chapters about how he realized that Jack actually love him and he has a breakdown, Isolde's speech to him about what else could he possible want, realizing that this whole time he has had everything. And now he's rotting in jail losing everything he once had. All because of envy and hatred. Just because he wasn't satisfied until he could see the man he once love the most suffer. Emotionally, that's really fucking painful.

AWW GENE WRITING HIS SONG <3 eugene mirman isnt a Good singer (not hating he literally says that all the time. they have to record each line seperately bcuz he cant sing on key) so its hard to tell when they're trying to make gene's songs seem good or not but this is really sweet. u can tell he just loves music so much

why is gene's song kinda making me emotional..... like this show is usually 50/50 on if it actually wants to take gene's songwriting ability seriously but in this episode its so clear how much he LOVES music and songwriting and how talented he is at it. he has trouble with focus and commitment sometimes but thats never an issue when it comes to his music and he'd happily spend an entire afternoon writing a song from start to finish (even skipping out on dinner) because he was so hyperfocused. love how much respect they give gene in this episode tbh

deeply appreciate the "larry murphy as teddy" credit despite teddy not having one single line in this entire episode. Literally just a legacy credit at this point

I LOVED THIS EPISODE 😭😭💕 i dont think it'll be as widely popular as some other episodes this season but as a gene fan and an artist this episode really resonated with me. the ending sequence was actually really beautiful (gives me the same vibes as "your heart's not broken its only growing" tbh) and i loved gene's song and all the different costumes they put him in for his dreams!! tina and louise's subplot was really cute too. very enjoyable episode if you're a gene fan or just a casual viewer who wishes he got more focus. he's SO SWEET and so passionate <3

ok, so, I'm very natural over Mario franchise. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. so this review is mainly from someone who is there only for the animation (also for Jack Black ofc). cool? cool. alright.

I'm going to be super upfront with the "good stuff", and sorta detailed with the "meh stuff". mostly because the good stuff is very self-explanatory while for the negative ones I feel like at least I should give a little bit of reason why I feel that way.

good stuff

I love the world-building, everything is very well-detailed and the environment is insanely rich

character designs? love it. they look absolutely alive and expressive

the casting. I think they're all really good???? I personally think Chris Pratt is alright too ig? I mean I kinda don't care, I was distracted with everything else in the movie. but he's fine.

Jack Black. nuff said.

I love Toad. I love Peach. DK. BROWSER??? everyone's very likable damn.

I'm obsessed with the 3d models ngl. there are times when I was focused more on the models than I was on the story. It's really distracting in a good way.

Storywise, I think it's decent but also fun!

love love love the dynamic between Mario and Luigi. Peak dynamic, really.

Such a nostalgia trip. I for one who doesn't know much about Mario had such a blast listening to all the soundtracks and looking at the itsy bitsy references and such.

the credit animation is super colorful I wish I could eat it.

^ I was watching this with a friend who is obsessed with Mario. there are times when he went absolutely insane and explained some stuff that I didn't know. which I think it's cool! it's crazy how there are literally easter eggs and fan service everywhere, it doesn't feel forced too. I really could see why people love it so much.

ok, imma be honest. I'm just gonna complained about the plot holes here,, It didn't really effect the story, but it did confuse me a bunch of times. again, this is coming from someone who doesn't know much about Mario. I might miss some stuff.

the transition when Mario/Luigi got teleported from Brooklyn to the Mushroom Kingdom. like, why? what's so special about that specific pipe?

also before that. why's Brooklyn drowning all of a sudden lmaoo. that part kinda felt forced just so Mario and Luigi had a reason to go below the sewer. it sorta makes sense I guess? but the pacing is pretty dang weird.

how does Peach know her own kind? "you're a human!". she was a literal baby when she first got to the Mushroom Kingdom

I love love love Toad character. I just don't understand his presence? I mean sure, he's bringing the comedy, but you could find the "comedy" elsewhere too. so his character is a bit useless despite him being the protector. long story short, the movie would be fine with or without him < this is how much his character matters imo.

the pacing after Mario agreed to fight with DK and then suddenly he's on the stage. tbf this isn't really a big deal? but the transition kinda bugged me.

I don't know what exactly they wanted to do with Mario and Peach relationship. do they like each other romantically? it doesn't feel like it despite being teased a few times.

my dude Luigi has to sit in the cage for how long now? kinda suck. I wanna know more about him, I wanna see him more in action.

that being said. I wish they did more with Luigi, give him something to develop on. because seeing him fighting Browser doesn't feel as rewarding as how we see Mario. all he did most of the time was get caught and sit in a cage while Mario had to go through all those bullshit. but I get it though. storytelling wise, Luigi is supposedly Mario's goal. to get him back and all that. I get that.

I can't feel sad for Mario for some reason??? (this has nothing to do with Cris Pratt btw). his supposedly "emotional" scenes didn't impact me at all. in fact, I felt awkward. I honestly don't know why though.

the final fight scene is also awkward? I mean it's cool, don't get me wrong. I think it has to do with where they're fighting? I guess imma blame Brooklyn for this.

the 80's pop songs felt out of place, but maybe that's just me.

personal rating? 7.

but I genuinely get why people love this movie.

6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): Wait for me there was the longest fic I've written and gave me the most anguish. I wanted to do a good job with the au aspect while also making the characters true to their voices, and the style of the fic was something new for me. It was so frigging challenging but I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Work I’m least proud of (and why): I won't use the word "proud," because I'm proud of everything I have written in some capacity, but I guess the work I am least fond of would be Sit with me in the dark. It was pretty well-received but idk, it just never felt like I was able to produce the writing that I wanted for it.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: Right now! It is excruciating to get words on a page, and it's incredibly disheartening, so it is something I'm really going to try to work on and make time for in the new year

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: Eddie's breakdown in How Beautifully We Fall. I was just sort of plodding along with the fic, and suddenly I was like, "Oh, I'm going to make this man have a whole entire nervous breakdown," and it's one of my favorite scenes I've written.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: umm how about:

This one is from the home inside my chest, my chimney-centric fic, one that is so very close to my heart:

“Everybody has a home inside their chest, and some people have a little one-story ranch house, while other people have sprawling mansions that are always under construction. Everybody you meet who becomes special to you gets a room, whether you move them in or not.” Hen looks at him, lips pulling up in a smile. “I think you need to move Kevin out of that box in your head and into the home in your chest.”

It was fear.

Stripped down to its bare bones, it was fear. There wasn’t anything deep or insightful or poetic about it. Buck was scared and Eddie was scared and they were too broken to try and be scared together.

Write in any tense you want. Be goofy, be serious, be dramatic, be heavy. Just write.

the good

I guess I want to start with the good stuff. I really liked how the movie focused on GIselle and Morgan as stepmother and daughter, but also two people that really need each other. The first movie was about Robert and Giselle and I really feel like there wasn’t much more development there. So I wasn’t upset that Robert got sidelined (hes also kind of the most boring character outside of his role in Enchanted, sorry McDreamy).

The first half of the movie was a bit, too much. But the second half is where I really started to enjoy it.

Obviously the costumes and set design were incredible. Amy Adams was going for an Oscar with her Jekyll and Hyde Giselle moment. The way her voice dropped to be evil, need I say more?

The story was enjoyable! The call backs felt a little forced, but still cute. The songs were... disney Decsendents level if I’m being honest. And i dont even mean that in a bad way its just, a grown ass woman singing them was a bit secondhand embarrassing.

also, james mardsen, as always, is an absolute delight

the not so great

My issues were with how over complicated the plot was. Enchanted was sooo good because of how simple it was, while also being very smart. It’s a fairy tale turned on its head and it’s clever. Disenchanted isn’t. Really clever? The eising wand felt a bit too convient. The pacing is too fast to really dwell on the issues the characters are having. 

And speaking of issues, there are too many lmaoo. Giselle and Morgan are both struggling to find their place. A cartoon-turned real girl feeling out of place and a teenager moving to a new town. There was a lot of potential. Unfortunately, they kinda just turned Giselle into a selfish stay-at-home mom (also, was the baby really important??? what happened to her fashion business). Giselle’s character struggles to stay cartoonish and real, which is ironic because that’s her whole deal. It’s been like 10 years since she started living in New York, how has she somehow went backwards in her character development. 

imo, the movie should have been more about Giselle losing that fairytale touch while dealing with the very real and complex emotions of being a new mom and stepmom. Maybe she woke up one day and realized how different she’s become. But no, its just this weirdly selfish need to move to suburbia. Also she’s a stay at home mom beefing with pta moms for some reason. Everything feels so half-baked, which is interesting since they did do reshoots due to inital mixed reviews

Speaking of pta moms, they really built up the whole prince and princess of the festival thing for no reason other than giselle setting up that, quite frankly, cringe worthy cupcake stand at the highschool. and for morgan’s extremely bland love interest. 

I guess my biggest problem was how it compared to Enchanted. I’m sure, on it’s own, DIsenchanted is a great movie. But Enchanted was about Robert and Giselle breaking each other out of their monotonous, monochromatic lives. Giselle learns to be more Real, while Robert learns to embrace spontaneity. Disenchanted feels a lot like Giselle trying to play both roles, with Robert doing absolutely nothing. I said earlier how I actually like Robert being put to the side, but it is frustrating how Robert didn’t notice Giselle strugging at all. He does not to help her. imo, the minute he saw her acting evil should have broke the spell or at least pushed through a little and made him concerned. He has big “ignorant dad in a sitcom” energy, which sucks.

the bad

okay im not film expert, nor am i a choreographer, but man, was I the only one that felt disappointed by the music and spontaneious dance sequences. The town square scene and inital scene with morgan and robert singing were probably the best because of how silly and self-indulgent they were. They felt like they wuld fit in Enchanted, which, again, is funny since the song is literally a reference to the first movie.

But some of the sequence felt like I was being danced at? Like these two 40 year old women were doing well choreographer tiktok dances at me. It took me out of the movie so quickly and I struggled to enjoy it. I really wanted to enjoy Badder, but the second half of the song just felt weird. Like they were hoping for a tiktok banger or something. But yeah, Enchanted may have only had 4 songs, only 2 of which were sung by main characters, but they’re all bangers. What Disenchanted makes up for in songs, it lacks in quality.

and lived happily ever after, I guess (except nothing was really dealt with sooo)

first of all, with Hal's interview in the first pages, I started marking things that were particularly like, neurodivergent (him saying he's a person with thoughts and feelings as if it's under question, the way he doesn't talk around authority but is much more relaxed around his brothers, all the masking he does, the "eyes like two great pale zeros" also cracked me up lol) ? I'm not sure if that's an intentional theme through the book or if that's just me working through things I do personally but there's a lot of interesting (again.. to me lol) autism coding with Hal and Mario and idk because I haven't seen enough of Orin yet but probably something similar. with that color tag I also put Hal's reclusive behavior (I accidentally spoiled a chapter looking at reviews so I'm preemptively connecting dots). and all the times Mario makes people feel like they can speak freely around him. etc

then I have a funny things tag, for .. idk lol when something is particularly funny or ironic to me. I'm not being that deep 😭

I have another for things that feel very meaningful or impactful, like certain events or likes that feel like foreshadowing. like how Orin hates spiders and probably got that from his father's own issues with them. generational trauma etc.

another color I don't use much for how I feel DFW projects onto James Incandenza, especially in the footnotes with the film history which was .. something

then I just like underline whatever line I'm referring to with my tag ?? idk how people usually annotate lmaoo I haven't done it since school. I have one highlighter for semi interesting stuff and another for stuff that's fully deserving of a note. and I put some of my questions in the margins but I usually have to but a tag nearby or I'll never ever see it again because the books so long.

I guess I could have separated things by storyline or theme but I'm figuring stuff out as I go so basically anything I want to revisit gets marked ... it's a lot but I'm cutting my sticky note tabs into little strips anyways and it's 900 pages soo...

oookay how to start a review of something?? mild spoilers btw

i guess, first, this book was a journey. i found myself relating immensely to Georgia Warr and every experience she’d ever been in. even those outside of being aroace (like not decorating your college dorm room, a problem i absolutely have).

this is gonna get personal so i’m sorry for that lmaoo

i went into this book knowing for a fact that i’m asexual. and i knew i identified SOMEWHERE on the aromantic spectrum, but not certain where. i’ve been questioning that for a while now. when i picked up this book, i remember joking “i’m gonna be mad if i come out of this realizing i’m aromantic /lh”

well, i think i did? we’ll sort of

i think i’m grayromantic?? this book took me on a journey of self discovery that i wasn’t prepared for. one that brought a lot of emotions out of me, good and bad. this is actually the first time i’m actually saying i’m grayro publically. and initially, i didn’t quite accept it. but i think i have now. not only did Loveless help me find myself, but also helped me accept who i am.

and maybe that will change in the future. maybe i’m still questioning, subconsciously? and i’m fine with that. but right now, in this moment, this is how i feel. i identity as a grayromantic asexual lesbian, and i’m proud of that. i’m proud of who i am.

also, this book has a sapphic rivals-to-lovers romance side plot with Rooney and Pip and i absolutely LOVE that kind of romance plot i eat that stuff up (i blame Lumity /lh). and it’s so good i love it. (i may be aroace but i love romance plots they’re amazing)

well either way i am so glad this book exists. i wish i had it when i was younger. i wish i knew what aromantic asexual was when i was younger. would’ve saved me a lot of time spent on forced crushes. but i’m glad that it exists now (even tho i’m two years late to reading it).

well, this post has gone on long enough i think, and it was probably incomprehensible. there’s more i could’ve written about my journey and finding myself for sure. but nobody cares about that /lh. this was definitely more of a vent/pseudo-coming out than a book review. but still, i loved this book. my journey doesn’t end with this book, but it has been helped by it. i feel a weight has been lifted off of me, now knowing who i am. and i have Alice Oseman (and my friends i guess) to thank.

so anyway go read Loveless it's great!

album review: Air Guitar -- Sobs

i just started listening to them last year, this album grew on me a lot faster!

ALBUM RATING: 8/10

initial thoughts

I generally liked the title track when it was released as a single, so I decided to listen to the album! Their previous albums required quite a bit of relistening to fully appreciate, and even then, I only really liked 1-2 tracks per album/EP. I was pleasantly surprised that this album needed only 1 relisten, and I had a very similar experience with Mercurial World

track 1: Air Guitar

I really like this title track!! Very light and breezy, like a breath of fresh air. Personally, I prefer the studio recorded version to the live version, and I was quite disappointed in the live performance (at least the one at baybeats 2019)

solid 8/10

track 2: Dealbreaker

One of my favourite tracks from this album 😌 I love the synth beat that reminds me of the end of Something For 2 / start of Chaeri by Magdalena Bay. 8.5/10!

track 3: Lucked Out

I didn't like this track too much, but I love the transition to Friday Night! That gives the album some bonus points, for making me relisten to tracks because of the cohesion :)

I think the 4-track start of the album is the strongest. 6/10

track 4: Friday Night

Another of my favourites, the outro?? AMAZING. I love synthpop so much and this is just perfect! A similar synth in the bridge was also the reason why I liked The Beginning in Mercurial World

track 5: Last Resort

This track grew on my after a few relistens, now I jam out at the opening. When I was listening this album while doing work, I kept subconsciously tapping my feet along to the beat,, it's just so good.

track 6: Burn Book

This track stood out to me on my first listen, although I'm not too sure why. I really like the melody, and it never gets boring even though the track is considered quite long (at least in a short-track pop world to increase the chances of virality).

7.5/10

track 7: World Implode

This grew on me, and "we're still picking up from yesterday" is so memorable!! the line stood out to me and when I think of this track, I think of this line. The bridge×chorus is quite interesting! 7/10

track 8: LOML

Might be my least favourite track from this album :( 

It's still very decent, just not as memorable as the rest. 6/10

track 9: Cool (bonus)

Also not my favourite, although it's left off the album which makes the album stronger as a whole

Almost the original order, the album starts off really well but gets weaker towards the end.

Given the number of times I mentioned Mag Bay/Mercurial World,, yes this album really reminds me of that. Which is a massive thing because that album is basically perfect synthpop, and very critically acclaimed. Amazing pop album from Sobs, I love their overall sound! I'm really a sucker for pop (recently.. synthpop), because I enjoyed this album a lot more than Catflap and Telltale Signs 🤭

hmm okay so this might be an unpopular opinion because of the subsequent ramifications but the whole alonso to alpine/piastri mess. like that shit was fucking killing me dude. i'd refresh my dash every 5 minutes and more shit would come out. the knowledge that alpine released this statement while australia was sleeping. alonso posting himself on holiday. the memes it spawned. good times hehe.

other than that i also really loved the grill the grid drivers' heights challenge hehe. made me giggle a lot

14. Are there any opinions you have now that you never would have expected at the beginning of the season?

hmm i'd say i did lose a bit of respect for mclaren in the way they handled the daniel situation. i completely get wanting a different driver but yeah... they did it all in a very back-stabby way yknow. i guess i also realised how shit ferrari are at strategies😭 didn't realise that last year lmaoo
