"Torontonian Sentenced On Bogus Cheque Charge," Ottawa Citizen. August 20, 1942. Page 19. ----- HAWKESBURY, Ont., Aug. 20. - (Special) - John Edward Burns, 198 Jarvis street, Toronto, appearing before Magistrate Raoul Labrosse in Rockland. Ont., under a charge of passing worthless cheques, was sentenced to three years in the penitentiary. According to police, Burns, alias John C. March, had a long police record, and at the time of his arrest was wanted in several towns and cities throughout Ontario. Burns was apprehended in Cornwall, July 31, by Constable Thomas Kerwin of Vankleek Hill, after trying to pass a check in the Vankleek Hill branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia. At that time the manager of the bank, Mr. K. I. Mitchell, recognized Burns from a description of a "wanted" circular, and as he hesitated to cash the check Burns turned and fled from the bank. Jules Labrosse. a junior in the bank, chased the fleeing Burns, but was pushed to the pavement from the running board of Burn's car as he made a get-away. Later in the day he was picked up in Cornwall by Constable T. Kerwin, of Vankleek Hill.
[AL: Burns was 51, married but separated, Canadian-born of Scottish parentage, and worked as a janitor for the Department of National Defence. He had a long criminal record dating back to the first years of the 20th century, including three previous terms in federal prisons across Canada. This time around he was convict #7015 at Kingston Penitentiary. He worked in the carpentry shop and was in trouble once for smuggling tobacco. He was released December 1944.]

Packard descendants out there!
Tumblr media
I spy a Packard! The magnifying glass and hand come from a Getty image, used under fair use. The Packard is Barnabas Packard III, the last Barnabas!
In my attempt to get more people to write for this blog, I sent a flurry of messages, some of which were emails and others which were on other forums, earlier this year. [1] Here I take from a couple of messages  to me from Packard descendants. I'll let them speak for themselves in the reprinted messages. Some parts of the emails are revised for formatting purposes. No personal information like email addresses and phone numbers is shown. The last two generations are not noted.
Ms. Blue writes to me on May 22, 2018:
Hi Burkely, Thanks for reaching out. I always love meeting new people that are searching their family lines! So have you ever used Family Search? and do you have Packard's from Massachusetts?
Ms. Lyons writes to me on May 21, 2018:
I checked and I do have Packard connections, but a very long time ago! The closest I could find was at my great-grandfather, Jonathan Taylor (1825-1890), being a 5th cousin to Benjamin Winslow Packard. Benjamin Winslow's line was Samuel/Zaccheus/Zaccheus/Simeon/Zenas/Benjamin Alden. So your line and my my line diverged way, way back at Zaccheus Sr, between his 2 sons Zaccheus Jr. and John, who were born, respectively, in 1693 and 1695. So we are related, some sort of distant cousin. On that basis, hello from my branch of the family! Best regards, Sylvia
"Angelwings" writes to me on May 20, 2018:
My husband is of Packard ancestry but I really can't tell you too much as his parents passed when he was young so we are trying to put pieces together as well. I really don't have much info at all except that he has found some distant cousins. Good Luck with your ongoing research
"Spiderlily" writes to me on  May 21, 2018:
Yes, my great grandmother was a Packard born in Quincy. Her father was Josiah Vose Packard, s. of Josiah Vose, s. of James. I've had difficulty going back further than that.
Ms. Deras writes to me on May 20, 2018:
Interesting name. I haven't seen it before. Your blog is very interesting. You are quite prolific! My Packard ancestry has been filled in since I posted on WikiTree (I wish there were three of me) [on Ancestry.com] Samuel PACKARD (1610 - 1684) 7th great-grandfather Zaccheus PACKARD (1651 - 1723) son of Samuel PACKARD Abiel PACKARD Capt (1699 - 1774) son of Zaccheus PACKARD Joshua PACKARD Sr (1730 - 1808) son of Abiel PACKARD Capt Joshua PACKARD II (1759 - 1835) son of Joshua PACKARD Sr Joshua PACKARD III (1793 - 1857) son of Joshua PACKARD II Edwin Henry PACKARD (1839 - 1914) son of Joshua PACKARD III Ruth PACKARD (1896 - 1969) daughter of Edwin Henry PACKARD So we are both Zaccheus' descendants...Along with, likely, thousands and thousands of  others. I am currently breaking bricks in the tree of Harriet Hall, my 2nd g-grandmother, wife of Joshua Packard III. A long brick walled ancestor. I use Genetic (DNA) Genealogy, after getting stumped by so many brick walls with straight genealogical research. I also authored a blog when I was working as a kitchen designer pre-2012. I really don't have any interest in doing that again. I'm just too busy working on the tree. I'll certainly bookmark your blog though, and I'd appreciate it if you'd sign me up to get notices.
Ray writes to me on May 19, 2018:
Yes [I have a Packard connection]. Her [my wife's 8th great-grandfather's] line goes through his grandson Joseph Packard (1689-1760), who is a 6th GGF, then John Packard (1741-1794) 5th GGF, then his daughter Mary "Molly" Packard (1767-1846), her 4th GGM
Mr. Hawkins writes to me on May 19, 2018:
Hi Burkely, Thanks for so kindly reaching out to me. I looked at your blog. It’s very well done! Sorry to say I don’t have anything of interest to share right now. Thank you again for asking.
Ms. Lenker writes to me on May 19, 2018:
You have impressive credentials. I can see how you would enjoy research. My credentials consist of wife, mother and raising two successful children. I married at 18, so never continued my education. I wanted to be a nurse, but got sidetracked early in life. Most, if not all, of the attached file is on line, but I have yet to find out how to create the enclosed file. This is what ruined my interest in this project. We may be related somewhere down the line. Please keep my personal info off the the Internet. It's already on Ancestry, and that's okay. I don't want it on any social media. [2]
Mr. Butler writes to me on May 18, 2018:
Burkely[,] I indeed have listed amount my ancestors Samuel Packard, though the Ensign’s father rather than the ensign himself.  I descended, twice,  through the daughter - sister Mary Packard.  (I found a surprising number of people twice on my family tree, Mary included.) I was very much into both genealogy and the web once upon a time.  My favored software was and remains MacFamilyTree, which automatically generated the page in question.  Although my interest in genealogy has faded, the web pages remain up, thus I get occasional e-mails from people who share a distant ancestor. A few remain favorite stories.  One person wanted to know how I learned the date of death of a War of 1812 veteran.  It turned out a letter had been written from his ancestor to a sister who was my ancestor saying father had died.  That letter had been kept in the family. I’m afraid I have no similar interesting information about any Packards.  It seems my father was related to much of old Hingham.  The Butlers seem to have moved from Hingham to Brockton to Abington to Rockland.  I’m now in Plymouth.  My father chased genealogy the old fashioned way, through legwork and old paper.  I used my computer, chasing Ancestry.com trees through the internet.  I got lots of names and way back, but I had more enthusiasm than accurate double checking.  My trees spread wide, but should be taken with a grain of salt I have visited your blog and may visit again, but I have nothing to contribute at this point.

[2] Posting a bit of this email does not count as having personal info. online. She also wrote on May 18 that "Moses Packard was my 10th great grandfather. I have Zaccheus  in my file and he was my 7th great grand uncle. I only have John's name connected to his family, but no info about him."
Note: This was originally posted on December 14, 2018 on the main Packed with Packards WordPress blog (it can also be found on the Wayback Machine here). My research is still ongoing, so some conclusions in this piece may change in the future.

Rare snake found at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, that died while eating a large centipede!
The state-threatened rim rock crowned snake (Tantilla oolitica) lives in pine rockland and hammock habitats in eastern Miami-Dade County and the Keys. This burrowing species, typically only 7-9 inches long, is seldom seen because it lives under debris, rocks or in cavities in underlying limestone.
A visitor to the park observed a small, dead snake on a trail with the rear portion of a centipede protruding from its mouth. Other species of crowned snake often eat centipedes, but this specimen represents the first food record of any kind for the little-known rim rock species. Crowned snakes immobilize their prey using mild venom but are unable to bite humans because of their small size. The prey item appears to be a juvenile Keys giant centipede (Scolopendra alternans), which can reach the size of a crowned snake as an adult. Crowned snakes are usually immune to the venom of centipedes, whose bites are painful to humans, but something went wrong during this encounter.
Did the snake choke while trying to consume the centipede? Or did the centipede envenomate and kill the snake?
This bizarre but fortunate discovery gave researchers the opportunity to use diffusible iodine-based contrast-enhanced computed tomography (diceCT) to accurately measure the snake and its prey and determine the cause of death. The diceCT scans indicated a possible obstruction of the compressed trachea, suggesting the snake indeed suffocated while swallowing the hard-bodied prey item. Close inspection of the CT scans revealed the centipede imparted a parting bite to the snake (red) before being swallowed and blocking the snake's trachea (purple).
This event represented the first dietary record for what may be the rarest snake species in North America! The snake, along with the partially ingested centipede, are now part of the Florida Museum of Natural History collection.

Who was Sergio exactly? And have he ever been shown I'm some game?
Ah, another character that's hard to pin down. Sergio is a character who was conceived in the early days it seems, but honestly never got the opportunity to shine in any game. There were plans here and there I think (I don't know if they exist anymore, but there might have been sprite artwork at one point). He WAS going to be in the Dollmaker game as someone who...wasn't so nice. Bad history with Akira (I think more of Akira might have been afraid of him). Might have been military? But for one reason or another they decided against using Sergio. I think...we'll never quite know if or why since Dollmaker never got past the demo/beta we have.
He was definitely going to show up in Rockland somewhere. In fact, I booted up the version 1.7 of Rumors of Rockland and Callum gives you a small tidbit. The guy owns the Cigar Bar, a nice lounge that a lot of the organized crime/iIish mafia folks hang around. Callum was funny how casual he'd talk about rather alarming things XD
I also remember he was I think the older brother to a newer character, Oz Morrison. Oz was a pilot I know. They both MIGHT have had their fingers in the black market, but I can't be sure if that's true.

PERSONALITY
MBTI type – ISTJ-A; Introverted, observant, thinking, judging, assertive.
Orca is a natural leader despite her introversion. She commands attention, even from those who aren't willing to follow her, unafraid to put such people in their place with harsh words and biting insults. Her introversion leans more to the ambivert side of things, she prefers the quiet of solitude over a loud social function, but socialising is not out of her comfort zone, and she would never be afraid to speak up and voice her opinions.
The ends always justify the means to Orca. She is willing to do risky, and sometimes deplorable, things to complete her objective, leaving some to question her morality, but those close to her trust that she knows where to draw the line. She's self-assured, confident to the point of cockiness at times, because she's good and she knows it.
The opinions of others mean very little to her, with the exception of the few people she calls her friends – she cares deeply for those select few. It takes a lot for her to trust, and a lot more to consider someone a friend, but once you've proved yourself, her loyalty is fierce. It’s incredibly difficult, but not impossible, to lose her faith.
Even when she was in the Navy, Orca has never been a fan of authority. It takes effort to earn her respect, which many of her commanding officers never did. In a way, this makes her slightly hypocritical, seeing as she demands respect from those around her but doesn't give it so easily.
Although she appears to be a serious, no-nonsense Captain, under the stony facade Orca actually has a strong sense of humour. She's more than willing to indulge in the jokes her soldiers throw around, but she still reserves the ability to take things seriously when the need arises.
FUN FACTS
Orca learned to play the drums as a way to de-stress. She learned in bootcamp from one of the older kids, and kept it up when she could in the Navy.
Her biggest pet peeve is stupid questions. She’s been known to make people run laps until the sun goes down for not using common sense.
The streaks in her hair are due to a bout of Alopecia Areata that she suffered from for most of her childhood, likely stress induced, and when the patches of hair grew back, they were white. She also has a patch of white where her neck meets her skull, but she keeps that one hidden because she doesn’t think it's as cool as the other two.
Her hair is also the reason for her callsign, since it looks vaguely like the markings on a killer whale, especially when she wears it up.
Her favourite colour is red.
She owns an ungodly amount of orca plushies.
On a similar note, she also owns an ungodly amount of model figures of fighter jets.
She’s obsessed with Top Gun. Like, balls to the wall fucking insane about it.
Like, she references it daily.
Yes, it was the reason she joined the navy. She is not immune to propaganda
Orca actually attended the real TOPGUN in Nevada in 2000, and graduated top of her class.
In 2016, she bought a decommissioned F-22 Raptor thanks to an Admiral friend of hers, and has been slowly refurbishing it in her off time. She keeps it in hangar two, and nobody else is even allowed to go in there.
She does all the repairs to the OSODs aircrafts herself.

BACKGROUND
Ryan's fate was decided before she was even born.
Her mother, Alison, was known to carry the gene for a genetic disorder and as a result, when she was pregnant with Ryan, she opted for a genetic screening to see if it would be passed down to her. It wasn't, but it's thanks to this genetic screening that they found out Ryan carried the NLH gene – the enhanced gene.
From the moment she was born, it seemed that her parents had already given up on her. Neglectful would be an understatement, there was no love in the way they cared for her. It was nothing but a chore to them, having to raise their mutant child when all they wanted was a normal baby.
Her father died when she was five. Shipped out to Iraq in ‘83 and never came back. Her mother shut down after that.
Growing up was difficult. Rockland was a small enough town that most, if not all, of the inhabitants knew about the fact that she was enhanced. She spent the majority of her childhood alone, being avoided by her peers and ignored by her mother, and becoming more and more bitter as the years went by.
She was eight when she finally discovered what her enhancement was; the ability to walk on water. It's a cruel joke, that she never even had a fleeting chance at a normal life because of something so insignificant.
When Ryan was eleven, her half-brother Aaron was born, and she got to witness firsthand what it looks like when someone loves you. Her mother was a completely different person once she brought him home, smiling and cooing adoringly at her infant brother. The resentment for both of them would never leave her.
Enhanced individuals, as the official paperwork refers to them, are required to serve in the military whether they like it or not. Mandatory service, starting at sixteen, and ending when you die. There is no choice, not for those who are deemed sub-human because of a genetic mutation completely out of anyone's control.
Despite the unfairness of it all, Ryan was shipped off to bootcamp a few months after her thirteenth birthday. It was easier there, surprisingly; there were other enhanced kids – people like her, for the first time in her life – and the structure and regiment of it all was something she actually found herself enjoying. The one aspect she struggled with was the demanding authority. She has never been with being told what to to, being a follower, especially by people she has no reason to respect apart from their rank. Her commanding officers were just like every other adult that had failed her thus far, and she earned more than a few disciplinaries for the insubordination of her outbursts of anger.
The three years she spent there helped Ryan for some sense of identity. It was strange, and bittersweet in a way, but she thrived in the military – had she not been conscripted, she may have even joined of her own accord.
The only sense of choice people like Ryan are given is the liberty of choosing which branch of the military they go to, so when she finally reached her sixteenth birthday in the March of ‘94, Ryan picked the Navy. She was on the plane to California the next day.
Once again, her entire life and any sense of structure she had was thrown to the wind. The Navy was harder, she was alone again and this time she had no idea if she was the only one of her kind; outing herself as enhanced didn’t seem like the best idea, especially since being a woman already put a target on her head. They looked down on her, endlessly questioned her abilities with an arrogance that made her blood boil, but Ryan was determined. She would be an aviator, and she’d be leagues better than all the people who thought they were above her – no amount of discouragement from them could change her mind.
It was in the academy that she met her first true friend, Michael ‘Berlin’ Addams. He was Ryan’s wingman, her partner in the skies, and the only person in her life to accept her unconditionally and without question. From the moment they met it was like two puzzle pieces clicking into place, his easygoing and humorous nature was the complete opposite of Orca’s quick temper, but they worked incredibly together like two sides of the same coin.
After Orca and Berlin graduated from the academy, placed first and fourth respectively, the two of them quickly rose through the ranks together, thanks to their raw talent for aviation as well as the synergy they had. They were best friends, practically inseparable, and though there were others they got along with, no one else came close to the bond that they had. For the longest time it was just the two of them, but the incident of March 1999 changed that.
While offshore on a deployment, someone found out Orca was enhanced, and word spread around the aircraft carrier faster than she could’ve imagined. She lashed out, broke another pilot's nose, and had to mop the floors for two months as punishment. While she was cleaning she was approached by one of the sailors, Eric Reyton she would come to learn. He extended an olive branch, and almost got his head bitten off before he revealed that he was enhanced too. It was a relief, learning that she wasn’t the only one, she finally had someone who really understood again. Berlin did his best, but he would never truly know what it was like.
From then on, it was the three of them. Orca, Berlin, and Eric – Static, as they took to calling him – and for the first time she actually started to feel like she belonged. The boys were like brothers to her, the family she never had, and life finally felt like it was looking up after all those long, lonely years.
And then Berlin died.
Shot down over land while they were on assignment. He didn't even have time to eject before he hit the ground.
Orca thought she knew pain. Unloved by her own mother, alone for the first sixteen years of her life, rejected by almost everyone she'd ever met, none of it had been easy; but as she watched Berlin's plane disappear into the treeline, nothing could've prepared her for the agony that ripped through her chest.
The rest felt like an out of body experience. She ejected, sparing not a single though for her own plane as it went down too. The landing fractured her ankle but she ran anyway, through the forest towards the blaze. She clambered up the wing of his aircraft, ripping the cockpit open and paying no mind to the way the searing metal burned through her flight suit and then her skin.
She pulled his body from the wreck, collapsing onto the ground with his lifeless body cradled in her arms. That's how the evac team found her, hours later, still sobbing into his cold skin.
His body went back to his family in New Jersey, but Orca kept his tags. She stayed standing over his coffin for hours after everyone else had left, everyone but Eric. Nobody was closer to Berlin than they were. Nobody understood the gaping hole his death left behind.
They were approached, after night had fallen and they were on their way out of the graveyard. The stranger handed Orca a card and introduced herself – Colonel Ellis – telling her to call when they needed a change of scenery. Eric had to restrain her from clawing the Colonel's eyes out for her audacity.
After the funeral, Orca finally understood how her mother felt when her dad didn't come home. There was nothing that could help the pain, the anguish of losing her best friend, so she drank herself into blackout numbness to escape it. Eric tried to help her, but it only ended in her lashing out. It went on like that for months, the only time she wasn't wasted was on the aircraft carrier where she had no choice. In a desperate attempt to help his friend, Eric ended up calling the Colonel to get them both out of California.
They found out on the flight to Texas that the Colonel was starting a PMC solely for the enhanced. The 'Occult Special Operations Division', she called it, a counter-terrorism taskforce. At first Orca was sceptical, the idea of it seemed almost too good to be true, but Colonel Ellis's achievements spoke for themselves. She was a decorated officer, and there was no doubt she had the power and resources to create something like this.
For a year, Orca and Eric served under Colonel Ellis in the OSOD, along with Lieutenant Klaus Green, Corporal Badger, both marines, and Lieutenant Nina ‘Vulture’ Smith, an Air Force pilot and all soldiers Ellis had worked with for a long time. It was better, being surrounded by people like them, and the freedom they had now was infinitely better than what they had in the Navy, but they were still out of their element. While Ellis, Green, Badger were marines and had decades of experience with active combat and its many intricacies, Orca and Eric were just a pilot and a sailor. Still though, Ellis didn't give up on them. They learned surprisingly fast under her mentorship, picking up what she taught them with ease, and though they were still miles behind the marines, their skills were impressive.
In 2011, Ellis was arrested.
The NLH gene is a random mutation, not something that can be isolated and cut out like a genetic disorder. However, if at least one parent carries the NLH gene, then the offspring are guaranteed to be enhanced as well. Starting in the 70s, sterilisation became mandatory for the enhanced, the same as conscription, as another way to control the enhanced population. Colonel Ellis was born in the late 50s, and conscripted in the 60s; in other words, she evaded sterilisation.
It came out that she had a daughter, around Orca's age, and action was taken almost immediately. Colonel Ezikiel Ellis died two months after her incarceration. The details of her death were never released.
Her death was different. It was obvious foul play was involved, but Ellis's death didn't affect her the same way Berlin's devastated her. This time, she got the feeling Ellis had reached her time, that she'd accomplished what she set out to do in her life, and now it was Orca’s duty to carry on her legacy.
She took over the OSOD as Captain as soon as Ellis's death was publicised. Now down to just the three of them, it seemed like a logical course of action to find some new recruits, and it didn't take long to find some. Ellis's daughter, Sergeant Major Arctic, came to Orca shortly after she took over the OSOD, but despite it being her mother's creation, she showed no interest in taking Orca's place. She agreed to work alongside the OSOD, but remained a free agent.
In the same year, they met Sergeants Eastwood and Vantage, marines like Ellis and Green, and most importantly, both enhanced. They were by far the best of their unit and then some, with expertise between them from insertions to engineering. She hired them on the spot.
Orca got the scar in 2012. A mission gone south, an attempt to save a group of hostages, and a crack shot from the enemy. She took a bullet to the face. If she wasn't enhanced, there was no way she would've made it. As luck would have it, if you could call it that, a doctor was among the hostages, and saved Orca's life that night – Honey Rosenheim, an enhanced combat medic who would work with the OSOD for years to come after their unfortunate first encounter.

[CONTENT REDACTED: SEE MISSION REPORT JUNE 11 2014]
It's 2019 by the time Orca meets Captain Price, through Kate Laswell and, surprisingly, their mutual friend, Nikolai. To say he didn't make a good first impression would be an understatement. Perhaps it's because of Orca's natural hostility and standoffish nature, but the two Captains butted heads constantly. Eventually he realised – with gentle nudging from Eric and the lieutenants – that she wasn't just an asshole for the sake of it, and she was actually a proficient leader. She slowly warmed up to him once she didn't have to fight for his respect.
Since the mission in 2018, the OSOD has collaborated with Captain Price, and subsequently Task Force 141, on multiple occasions.
It took significant work, but Orca was an accomplished Captain, with loyal soldiers and the ability to actually make a difference in the world. Her fate may have been decided before she was born, but Ryan is the one who made something for herself. She still has Berlin's picture hanging up in her office.

FBF News from Yesteryear
April 12, 1974 - 50 YEARS AGO
excerpt from The Journal News

CLARKSTOWN MAY BUILD SITE - BURGER STAND ROLLS OUT MOTORCYCLES
Riding instructor-mechanic Miles Devlin of Spring Valley at trail area
📷 Journal News Staff photo - Ted Neuhoff
One of the few places in eastern Rockland where motorcycle riders can ride on a challenging course off the road is being leveled, and a hamburger stand will soon rise on the site.
An undeveloped, hilly area on the corner of Central Avenue and Route 59 in Central Nyack has been used for years by novice riders and dirt track enthusiasts to test their noisy machines.
A McDonald's restaurant is presently being built on the property. As a result, young riders will probably have to use their trail bikes along area railroad rights of way unless a new dirt site is developed, according to spokesmen at a Central Nyack motorcycle shop, The House of Power.
“Now, a lot of these kids will go riding along the railroad tracks in the county," said Miles Devlin, a mechanic at the shop."They can't be supervised as they should."
But, the future may hold relief for neighbors, customers, and shop officials, owner Sal Mangiameli explained, in the form of a riding area at the Clarkstown town dump.
The shop owner has been negotiating with the town for the right to build up the area for supervised trail riding and training.
The "mini-bike park" would be operated as a profit to the town recreation department and there would be a nominal feefor a day's worth of riding, he explained.
Leveling the hills has forced Mangiameli, 34, of Orange County, to invest $10,000 in a dynomometer, a device which simulates road conditions and allows both the shop's personnel and customers to test the motorcycles indoors.
Other bikes licensed and registered road cycles will still be tested on the streets at the rear of the shop unwelcome news to at least one couple which has been "miserable for six years" in the face of daily noise from the large street bikes.
"Seven other families were driven out of the neighborhood because of the noise," said George Wamsley, 69, of 4 Central Ave. "The neighborhood has gone to hell and we're strapped in."
He and his wife say the value of their home has plummeted and that they would be unable to purchase another home for the amount of money they've been offered for their present one, located next door The House of Power.
The owner of the motorcycle shop said, "We try to get our business done without offending other people but some people just don't like motorcycles."

Welcome to my channel
Hi, new/new-ish followers! I feel like we are well past the point in tumblr’s life cycle where people make earnest introductory posts but I’ve been getting a bunch of followers recently since a lot of my quote posts are going around, so I wanted to put some links in one place.
-About me: I’m in my early/mid 20s, female, bi, and I live in the western half of the U.S. (you’ll certainly pick up more than that from context clues but that’s all I’m going to volunteer up front). I’ve been on tumblr for almost 10 years and for the majority of that time I went by the username your-daughters-shall-prophesy, so you might recognize me from that.
-I love cats (hence the avatar) and Dune (hence the current username)
-I’m a Christian (mainline Protestant--ELCA and TEC specifically). I post a lot about religion and faith--my general Christianity tag is #walks the earth and my personal Bible posts are all tagged #bibleblogging (that one’s been dormant for a little while but is about to come back since I just started another readthrough of the David arc) so feel free to follow/block those at your discretion. I am not an expert on anything by any means but I do love talking about faith and and asks/messages/post replies from anyone who feels similarly are always welcome.
-I love books, and I read a lot--like a lot, last year and the year before that I read north of 250 books a year. These days most of the original posts on my blog are me talking about or sharing quotes/excerpts from books and articles I’m reading, all of those are tracked under the #what I’m reading tag. I also love poetry, which is tagged #with you in rockland (remember how back in the day we all had to have artsy metaphorical tags for all of our posts? lol)
-My reading interests jump around a little but these days it’s largely literary fiction, sci-fi, poetry and a lot of nonfiction, particularly about current events/history/religion/feminism and their intersections. As a primer, here are my favorite books I’ve read so far this year.
-I’m also on goodreads, if we’re mutuals or have interacted before and you want to be friends over there you can message me for my username anytime.
-This started as a fandom blog when I was a teen but now it’s basically just me liveblogging my boring adult life and my reading habits. I do unironically love tumblr despite all its flaws and I really appreciate having a social media platform that isn’t public-facing. I don’t really keep track of who follows me or who I’m in mutuals with, so if you decide this isn’t the place for you or just get bored of following me, no hard feelings.
Thanks for reading!

My name’s Henry, and you’re here with me now. My life It’s a song, ah … Hold out your hand to me, give me your hand. Aah, I’ll bite it off!!      —Henry Rollins “Damaged I”
As the camera pulls back to reveal you in front of the Lincoln Memorial, you announce: My name is Henry, and you’re here with me now. Though the words are the same, your voice holds
none of the steel toed self-loathing I spent my teenage afterhours trying to emulate, “Damaged” cranked on my stereo, waiting for my Dad to bang the ceiling Morse code of “turn it down.” I’d throw middle fingers at him through the carpet, then catch myself in the full-length, mouth: Look at me now,  just shadows. I’m just shadows of what I was. I was so angry, Henry,
but I still don’t know who I was angry with. My father is seventy now. He pisses his pants because a negligent doctor wrecked his pelvic floor, ordered the wrong test. Still, he swears no revenge. He spends hours, truckers’ atlas spread across his lap like a Gutenberg Bible, color coding different routes to each rest area along the 95-corridor. When I visit,
I make sure I’m up early enough to sit with him to help point out an overlooked Texaco station or re-arrange his highlighters by color. I never ask where he’s planning to go. I’d hate to think
his kind of peace makes sense to you now, Henry. But you won’t stop playing to the camera, nodding without question at the TV expert’s theory that America’s founders were in league with the devil. I know you don’t believe it. I also wish you’d been granted
the dignity of an idol’s early death, but instead there’s new evidence after each commercial. Fuck you, Henry. Do you know how many rest areas are between Palm Beach and Rockland? Of course you don’t. I don’t either.
—Keith Kopka, “Dear Henry Rollins (Former Singer of Black Flag, Now History Channel Host)” (On the Seawall, June 2021)

ALBANY — The Board of Regents approved new regulations Tuesday that require private schools to prove they are teaching the same core subjects, in English, that public schools cover.
The board voted unanimously and without debate.
Every school must provide a “substantially equivalent” education in math, reading, writing, science and history. Schools can cover the topics in different ways – including integrating the curriculum into religious classes – but they must ensure students develop basic skills.
Teachers must also be competent, though they do not have to be licensed by the state.
Some private schools have welcomed the rules. A spokesman for Catholic schools said the schools are ready to prove their education through state testing. Some schools are already accredited, another way of proving that they are providing a substantially equivalent education. Amish school operators have already been working with local school administrators to prove their students receive an acceptable education, according to the state Education Department. Approval through a local school district review is another way of meeting the state’s new regulation.
A group of ultra-Orthodox Jewish rabbis have announced they do not teach students the core classes required and that they will not do so. They threatened to take the issue to court, hoping to base their arguments on the precedent of the 1972 Supreme Court ruling.
In 1972, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Amish, when they said their freedom of religious expression would be jeopardized by educating children beyond an eighth grade level. Rabbis said they hope to make similar arguments about the damage a secular education could have on the continued existence of their religious community. But the Amish defendants were able to prove they provided basic classes – mainly in reading, writing and arithmetic – and vocational training such that any child who chose to eventually leave their community would be able to support themselves with their skills. Supreme Court justices agreed and said that adding a couple more years of mandatory education – through age 16 – would not make a significant difference. To be decided is whether any secular education can be required by the state.
Rabbis said their religious schools prepare boys – the schools are gender segregated – for a religious life, learning how to live in their community. While they acknowledge that students do not develop core subject skills or English fluency to the same level as public school students, they said their students don’t need those skills to do well in their community.
Some graduates of the ultra-Orthodox schools in the New York City, Orange County and Rockland County area have pushing for change for years, saying they were wrongly not provided with any secular education.
One man, who attended Monday’s discussion of the new regulations at the Board of Regents, said he was not even taught about topics that might be considered commonplace at a Jewish school, such as the Holocaust. His time, from age 2 to age 20, was entirely spent on reading sacred texts and detailed analyses of them in multiple languages, including Hebrew and Aramaic. The school was taught in Yiddish

Our History of Bank Mergers and Acquisitions | Rockland Trust
This is a lot of reading to do but you can tell that the trumps took it over by the name of the branch manager of Rockland bank and westborough Massachusetts on Lyman Street and she's been there forever and she makes menacing sounds and looks and she's crazy and says that she says lawyer people picked up on it in the movie she's very pushy and beats people up including Dave her husband and really doesn't do any lawyer work and she's a nut and she sees the key and says what does it mean and our son says this is probably a bigger outline Dave would just use his giant form and they don't get that big and she started panic and so this is going on and yeah and they changed hands from Bank of Boston to Bank of America to fleet Bank and Bank of America put in some more branches in westborough but fleet Bank was actually Trump and he then changed the name to Rockland and he thought he could change it a few times to take the cash when he was doing it he tries it all over the place and people are mad at him cuz he's such an a****** and the method doesn't work and he just keeps doing it and he is oblivious to the key which is the max below and the max are going there because they don't want to lose the key and they don't want to lose the money and they're noticing that the other branches are found out and it's a big huge kickoff and he's sick and tired of these slow pokes farting around and they say they are having him do it some of them and it makes sense to them so this is what's going on Trump is found to be sitting on it again and people are going after him because stupid people think stupid people know stuff but sometimes they do and really they don't make keys to speak and our son and daughter say the key to open the ship is bigger and he would modify it and add more Stone and they're saying we don't think so but they don't really know and that's true it's so huge they'd have to do a study it's interesting to people
Thor Freya
There's an outline it's larger and we're screwed we can't lift that damn thing and we're starting to see what he's saying so it's the battle now and we have to fight all these idiots that was smart and he sees it and of course he does. He's a baby now and he's dangerous already and we're thinking of growing him up how wonderful. And lots of people are going there
Macs
This is dumb as hell but I see what they're saying now we didn't know about that but he's been saying it okay just kind of key will open the ship this kind of key would start it and this kind of key I don't know and stuff like that and you're dumb it makes a lot of sense to him why make it so some s*** head could open it or without a special machine and a bunch of them and you see and hear it that's a way of securing something and it only makes sense
Mac daddy
We're going to close the doors now I'm going to try to but really this is going to suck but that money is going to move real fast and all over the place too and he says probably not real fast but it's going to move and it has to we get that
Macs
Holy shit this is a reality I'm looking at a scan and people saying it's the mirror of the building it's a reflection from it and we can't see anything on the oblique and I said why the hell would that happen and it says this material you can't see through they put there and they did some road water they did work there and road work too I looked and it's still and that's one of Trump's characters LOL you can't see through him that's really made up stuff right there but this is not I see there's a question on my notes and we can never follow through on all these things our friend is valuable he figured it out but he says I made it been told to and timing is what they're up to so we're going to war and we're going to figure out the stuff
Ben Arnold
What a day top it all off for the Cherry
Mac daddy
Olympus
And they mean the metaphor but this is terrible and yeah we just sit on things I guess some people try to scan and they can't I need to get out of here this sucks a bunch of idiots I got carried away if I had a giant and I'm looking at the footprint then Mike two says he has no he won't tell anyone just like Tim Doyle I'm going to get something it's like they don't want to tell people like me but I thought it was me and not entirely but really there's there's a lot of evidence that says it's Dave AKA JC now we're talking about Jesus we don't have any time for this this is going to blow and he says his actual house is and castles must have something bizarre below like in Memphis and we're going to go take a look
Aaron m it says I'm behaving well and more like my biblical character and we were smart about things back then
