supernatural s10e6 ask jeeves (w. eric charmelo, nicole snyder)
i looked her up because she reminds me of tissea from the witcher (spoiler alert looking her up apparently, i've been [sadly] bored to tears with s3 so i haven't finished it) but she was in coyote ugly! so i did recognize her. ish

Fic WIP Preview // Sharing a small snippet from a WIP I'm gradually getting through. The dialogue, the tension, the biblical metaphors have made this such a treat. And I'm loving this tristamp S1E3 ending rewrite so, so much. It's made getting through the day job a little easier, so much appreciated.
So, here's a scene somewhere in the middle of this fic that I wrote this week and very much enjoyed.

“I never called you – ”
“You missed me.” Nai cuts him on that elbow. And then: “I’m listening.” He squeezes. Then a: “Vash.” Acquiesce. And then: “I thought of you when you left.” He’s unyielding, feigning human. And: “I thought the same of you, then.” And: “Look at me.”
It’s not a question.
He doesn’t touch him, but the knives serrate a painless little path across a cheekbone to the chin. And pushes Vash, very gently. With all the patience of a thumb meant to tell him Nai is speaking and he likes it when he’s watched. He doesn’t stab him — not yet, but the imprint leaves a mark. When he pushes, harder. Wincing is hesitation, that tried to stop here for a drink before it high-tailed from the bar. Because he doesn’t move until it’s hurting, until he’s adamant this will scar, if Nai is the opposite of being patient — and apathetic will hit the mark. And only then, Vash is looking through his tinted crooked glasses and sees the brother he’s always seen when Rem scolded him to play nice.
Calamity, not Calamity.
Nai, Millions Knives.
Brother, bother.
The worst of Vash when he lies. And the best of him, the heart of him — Nai holds him like a tendril, on a distant land where it rains and the gods afford their kindness. And it’s as real as all the millions some would shoot him for a plant: it’s as real as one of the stories Nai would quote from fairytales before he closed them, sat above them but in the awning of an apple tree, and say, At the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord, and with all the gravity of being brothers he used to tell Vash he should join. And that was a kindness, then.
One of the relics of a world dealt with much and none and plenty. But these were idols in his eyes. The kind to question their intention before you knell a town as their angel — and know salvation as a wing, one wing inside an inkpot: signing off for a stranger in the blood of all believers.

My Reactions to S&B S1E3&4
These people are really hell-bent on doing Mal and Alina dirty. I feel like we get through one episode just fine but in the other, I'm just shaking my head.
Meanwhile, the crows are completely stealing the show at this point, the show is the heist and they are totally getting away with it because they are all so good but that scene with Jesper in the train was really good. I actually like how well we are getting to know their abilities, especially with Jesper and Inej. Also, the train in and of itself was an amazing idea.
Let's get back to all those changes that are fundamentally changing the fabric of the story at the heart of Shadow and Bone (the book).
So, apparently, in the show, the Grisha get tested by the application of sudden pain which is really stupid in my opinion because they must be missing a lot of kids this way. Also, how the hell do they identify Fabrikators and Corporalniks this way. Unlike summoners who can physically manifest their abilities these two orders seem to have more subtle powers but how the hell do they get revealed???
Also, Alina's dress for her introduction to the King is so bad. What was up with the veil???
Anyhow putting that detour aside, Alina basically escapes detection by the testers because she squeezes her hand around a broken piece of a cup which is how she gets the scar in the book but in an entirely different context and IMHO changing the context was criminal. CRIMINAL! How dare you???
In the book, she ends up squeezing that jagged piece because she is waiting for Mal to come back and when he does, he picks her up and twirls her and she in her joy ends up squeezing her hand still holding the jagged piece of cup. It's literally the moment she realises she is in love.
She also never gets rid of the scar even when she believes that Mal is done with her. However, I need to point out that in the book it is never brought up as an option.
All in all, it's clear that the show doesn't seem to be endgame Malina and I'm not here for that but at least given everything they have already changed the rest might all make it into the show. Let's see.

Always Have Your Back
Her fingers soothe over the spot where the bile had fallen on her wrist, the faint yellow stain making her stomach turn.
A bag half-packed sits beside her. Outside, she can hear the commotion of officers as they take Mulder’s statement, similar to the one she gave them a few minutes ago.
It was Scully’s first experience having her home be violated and invaded like that. It made her skin crawl to recall it.
A soft knock against the bedroom door has her standing from her bed, continuing with her task of packing.
“Come in,” she gently calls.
Mulder appears looking around sheepishly, looking out of place.
“They’ve arrested Tooms,” he tells her. “He’s been charged for all the murders; 30s, 60s, now and he’s been charged for assault on a federal officer.”
Assault…the word rings in her ears.
“Good,” Scully says flatly.
She wonders if she should thank him. Is it expected of her to thank her partner for having her back or is it just a given?
“Mulder,” she calls, turning around and catching him before he leaves. “I’m glad I now know I can depend on you to have my back.”
He smiles, looking slightly bewildered.
“Of course, Scully. Your my partner, your safety in these investigations are paramount to me.”
She smiles, warmed by the confession.
“As is yours,” she responds in kind.
“Well,” says Mulder rubbing his hands on his pants. “Baltimore PD wants to take our official statements at the station. You ready?”
Scully nods, packing the final few items into the bag.
“I just need to change.”
“Of course.”
Mulder leaves, closing the door behind him. Scully peels off her clothes, shoving them into a plastic bag and hiding them from sight in her closet.
When she exits, Mulder is waiting for her. She eyes the area of the attack wondering if she’ll ever be able to stand there against without associating it with that event.
Mulder catches her staring.
“I promise to do all in my power not to make this a regular thing.”
Scully smiles, thinking if that is really something he was capable of promising but she says nothing, simply following him out the door.
Thursday, 21st May.
My first attack in my home. I felt violated, my space felt violated. Will I ever be able to walk in and not think about what happened? Mulder promised he would do all he could for it not to become a regular thing. Could he really promise such a thing? Anyway, it was good to know he has my back. Regardless of our differences, of my position, we’re partners and I believe partners should have each other’s backs.

Summary: Jaskier is leaving you and Geralt for Oxenfurt for the winter. But he can’t leave with you so sad.
This happens just before S1E3.
A/N: As requested by @zana999, Shower Day was next. This is a scene set in Bēstiārium. It happens at the end of chapter 3 before S1E3. The reader is 21 and Jaskier is 20 in this.

You were sitting at the tavern table closest to the window. Rain pattered against the glass. The crisp fall rainstorm had started during the night and had continued into the morning. The rain seemed to match your mood as if it was doing the crying for you.
You’d been dreading the day. In the two years you’ve known Jaskier, you’d come to enjoy his company immensely. The man had wormed his way into your heart. You were fond of him, you had to admit. And now that winter was approaching and you were about a day’s travel from Oxenfurt, you’d be separating for the first time since Pasada. There was a strange sadness that settled over you at the prospect. The idea of him not being by your side most days was unsettling.
Jaskier, with his wonderful ability to gauge emotions, clocked your sadness immediately. He sat down across from you with a smile.
“Are you alright?” He asked as he reached across to hold your hand, his thumb gently rubbing the back of your hand.
You shrugged. The ache for his presence was not an unfamiliar one, nor was it unpleasant. Yet you struggled to find a way to verbalize how much you’d miss him. The words seemed impossible to find for a feeling you felt so deeply. “I’m fine.” He raised his eyebrow at your obvious lie. You huffed and turned your attention to the table instead of his incredibly kind face. “Fine… Fine… It’s just… I’ve grown rather attached to you, Jaskier. And…” You paused for a moment as you searched for the right word and looked up at him. “And I’ll miss you dearly this winter.”
He gave you an almost melancholy smile. “I’ll miss you as well.” He squeezed your hand. “But we shall see each other again, that I promise you.”
You returned his sad smile. “Knowing that does not ease the sadness in my chest at the prospect of you not being by my side. Your presence fills the space between me and Geralt in the most pleasant way possible and I loathe the idea of having that void present again.”
“I will miss you just as deeply.” He replied, squeezing your hand again.
There was a quiet pause. The soft rain was the only thing between you.
You broke the silence. “You should finish packing. It’s a day’s trip to Oxenfurt. I don’t want you caught out at night.”
The rain had lightened. The sweet earthy smell of petrichor settled calm over you, despite the heavy sorrow. It would ache for a while, but Jaskier was right. You would see him again. You’d miss his random strumming and soft lyrical mutterings for the winter, but it wasn’t forever.
Your slight miserable contemplation was suddenly ended by Jaskier plopping down on the bench across from you. Your eyebrows shot up in surprise.
“What… What are you still doing here? I thought you were leaving town.” You asked, sitting up straighter.
Jaskier smiled faintly. “I can’t leave without knowing you’re okay.”
You froze for a second. The tenderness and caring in his tone touched your heart. He’d come back…
“Come with me.” He said and motioned for you to stand. Then, he took your hand and dragged you toward the door.
Just as he was about to pull you into the rain, you stopped him. “Wait, Jaskier, what are you doing? It’s raining!”
He smiled and pulled you into the rain. “Dance with me!”
You laughed at his antics. “I can’t dance!”
He gasped dramatically, hand against his chest. “I can’t accept that!”
He grabbed your hand and twirled you. A surprised giggle escaped you. With gentle hands, he moved you into position. His movements were slow as he silently taught you how to dance properly. The rain had matted both of your hair and your clothes hung heavy on your frame. But you couldn’t care less. It was fun and exciting being in Jaskier’s arms as you casually danced in the cool fall rain.
Jaskier smiled as he spun you again. “There’s the smile I know and love.”
You hadn’t even realized you were smiling.

Ooooh for the horror movie ask meme! 1, 2, 5, 6, and 9!
1. What was the last horror movie you watched?
I'm watching a lot more shows than movies atm! The last horror things I watched were Midnight Mass (fun though it didn't get me quite as much as Hill House did - mostly because the only thing I connect with religion is trauma and zero comfort) and Archive 81 (ultimately disappointing - a super intriguing setup and premise but in the end quite the letdown. Also, did they really have to straightwash one of the main characters?). The last horror movie I actually watched was a rewatch of Cabin in the Woods. Fuck the Whedong, but this is a DAMN good movie. The last horror movie I watched that I haven't seen before was the og Candyman, I think.
2. What is the scariest horror movie you’ve seen?
Oh my god I'm gonna ramble here bc like. This is SO SO subjective and a LOT of it doesn't just depend on the person but also on where you are at the moment in time when you watch a movie, both mentally and physically (I read Pet Sematary three days after my beloved childhood pet died. It was a very, very bad idea. I had nightmares for months). I think it is GENUINELY impossible to find an objective measure of how scary a movie it is. Like GENUINELY. So I'm gonna pick a few. I should also say that I get scared quite easily (or, well, used to. I have seen so many horror movies now that it takes a wee bit more to get me really terrified). I love being scared. That's why I watch horror movies - if I put on a horror movie I do it with the express purpose of wanting to be terrified. Give me that sweet sweet adrenaline and cataclysmic release of fears in a safe and controlled environment, thank you!
First shoutout goes to X-Files S1E3 "Squeeze" which I watched at 11 years old and that gave me nightmares for DAYS. I also saw The Haunting around the same time and it made me afraid of Stairwells for a good long time. Both of these are still very good today but they don't scare the crap out of me any longer. But back then...next big one I remember is Blair Witch Project which scared the crap out of me at 14 plus a few others, especially Japanese horror, that definitely did things.
Nowadays, the scariness factor is a bit different because it mostly relates to mental states etc. I'm going to throw three different ones in the ring here. Once again, I know more than one person who doesn't find these scary at all (also I just realised these are all fairly new which, hu. There's definitely old stuff that scares me too)
1) His House. This has got to be my favourite horror movie that came out in recent years. The acting, direction, cinematography etc was superb and it's, in my opinion, genuinely scary in a lot of different scenes.
2) The Descent. I've watched it so often now that the scariness has worn off a wee bit but even now it's still creepy as fuck. Just the entire atmosphere of being lost in an unknown cave system and tracked by unknown creatures is !!!!!!!!!
3) Hereditary. Yes YES I know! What a predictable answer. And shoutout to all the non-horror people who went to the movies to loudly proclaim how NOT scared they were. Great for you! You know what? I was scared. It's fantastic. And part of the fear isn't just the supernatural bit, it's the more relatable ones. But what if the demons haunting you will haunt your family? How much am I my parent's child? Will my dead sister ever stop tearing through my nightmares?
Putting the rest under a cut cause this is getting too long because I RAMBLE TOO MUCH.
5. List your top five horror films
I've actually done this before, except, I couldn't stick to a top 5. Here was the Top 10 from way back when and a more recent Top 10 with some extra recommendations!
Very quickly I'd say His House, The Descent, Hereditary, Ringu, Lake Mungo
6. What is your favorite genre of horror? (paranormal, slasher, etc.)
DEAD KIDS AND GHOSTS AND WEIRD FOREST CREATURES. Aka haunted house/haunting movies and folk horror. I prefer horror with a supernatural twist be that ghosts, demons, etc.
Least favourite are slashers and zombie flicks athough I enjoy the occasional good one.
9. Do you have any pet peeves for horror?
Also, I've talked about this in the previous post, but the whole jump scare thing. If you'll forgive me, I'll just copypaste that part of the answer -
Jump scares are overused and bad and if your movie relies on jump scares to be scary it’s a bad movie (best example: The Nun). You know what scares most people about jump scares? The SUDDEN LOUD MUSIC. You jump in your seat as a literal physical reaction and it’s like. Eugh. FIlmmarkers, stop using my body (and my autism-induced noise oversensitivity) against me and start using my brain and heart against me! And if you do that I’ll grant you your jump scares. Hereditary has, I think one or two? And they are INCREDIBLY effective because they are used to sparingly and because the movie earns them by creating a perfectly dreadful atmosphere without them first. Seeing a character going down a dark corridor and knowing something will jump with a loud violin screech is not scary. Seeing a character going down a dark corridor and seeing faint movement behind them, a shadowy face perhaps that slowly materialises on the ceiling above them, fingers that slowly creep closer - THAT is terrifying. I’ll take Samara crawling out of the TV in slo-mo any day over boogieman hopping out of the closet as the former is much scarier.
On a second, slightly more hilarious note, I am so tired of Lovecraft discourse. Is every dudebro trying to rip off Eldritch monsters and holding Lovecraft up as the end-all of horror boring and annoying as fuck? Heck yeah. Was Lovecraft a horrible racist antisemite whose personal philosophies found their way into his writing and influence our thinking about 'The Other' to this yeah? 100%. Do I think nobody should use Eldritch monsters in anything ever because of this and its this always boring and badly done? Nah! Take 'em tentacle babies, be aware of the pitfalls, and have fun. Sheesh.

succession is really good at making its terrible characters, if not likeable, then charming, esp the main trio, and esp in S1 when its trying to draw you in. i think this is played most strongly on the audience for shiv and roman, because like, the fact that you (or at least i) *want* to like them, but theyre terrible, like really awful, and the narrative just squeezes you between their unambiguous awfulness and their charm (and a charm that doesnt rest in like, self-aware awfulness, they think theyre good, or at least okay people) BUT theres a great scene in S1E3 where kendall is doing the charm to rava, and like...i get it! he's a shitbag, but like, you sympathize with rava, he's fun, hes funny, he's powerful and competent (in that moment), its a great little example of how to have a character make an obviously bad choice that the viewer feels they might make too
