The Disease of Unrequited Love Chapter 8
This is for Sasuhina Renaissance Week 2018! Not sure how long this story is going to be, so hope you all enjoy the ride like I will be. I haven’t written in a while, so apologies for any mistakes. I’ll probably end up rewriting this someday because I didn’t like how I wrote in some parts, but for now please enjoy the story~
A/N: Slowly moving this story forward. By slowly, I mean SUPER SLOW....Anyways, thank you for taking the time to read this story, hopefully I’ll be able to finish writing this before the end of the year so I can start writing some other stuff xD If you ever have any questions about my stories, don’t hesitate to send me an ask!
“ You’ve gotten worse.”
Sasuke had woken up not too long ago while laying in one of the beds at the Konoha hospital. The familiar scent of chemicals and death that he hated seemed to linger everywhere. When he finally sat up, he was met with an angry Tsunade.
“ Do not ignore me, brat.”
He glared at Tsunade, but did not say anything. Instead, he tried to remember what had happened before he had passed out.
He had been assigned a mission with Hinata and her teammates. Hinata, Kiba, and Shino were supposed to track a missing shinobi and bring them back. There had been rumors of an organization that had been recruiting rogue shinobi in an attempt to overthrow the current allied powers that had formed between the hidden villages as a means of peace. Tsunade had assigned a Konoha shinobi to try to find their whereabouts, but within a week they had disappeared. When a week had gone by with no leads, she had decided to assign Team 8 with the task since they were known as the best trackers in the village.
When Hinata had told him, he had demanded to come with them.
“ Why does this bastard have to come with us?” asked an angry Kiba.
“ Sasuke will be going with you three to act as a bodyguard.” Tsunade answered.
“ Forgive me, Hokage, if I sound out of line, but are you suggesting that we can not take care of ourselves?” Shino questioned.
Hinata did not seem to mind, but the expression she wore seemed to be in agreement with Shino.
“ You all may be trackers, but I’m a much better fighter than all of you.” He said.
Shino had to restrain Kiba from punching him. Or rather, restrain him from getting hurt by Sasuke.
Tsunade let out a frustrated sigh.
“ Settle down. I have decided to assign Sasuke to this because I believe his powers and abilities will come in handy. While I do believe you three are more than capable of taking care of yourselves, it is true that Sasuke is a better fighter as evidenced by the past. This mission is no joke, and I want to take extra precautions. I do not want to lose my best trackers, so I made the decision that I saw would ensure the best outcome. I have already discussed this with Kakashi, Shikamaru, and a few others and they are all in agreement as well.”
“ Then assign us someone else! Why does it have to be him?” Kiba growled.
“ I understand, Hokage-sama. Thank you for the clarification.” Hinata bowed.
“ Yes, I understand as well. While I do not fully agree with this decision, I understand the need for this.” Shino responded.
The man stared at his teammates in disbelief.
Sasuke remained silent.
“ Kiba, whether or not you agree with this, I have already made my final decision on this matter. Sasuke was the only one available at the moment, and he had volunteered to assist with this mission as well. If you still disagree with this, you are more than welcome to drop the mission and I will assign you something else. Do I make myself clear?”
Not wanting to anger the woman any further, Kiba had annoyingly agreed and bowed his head in submission.
“ Uchiha! Are you even listening to me?!”
Unaware that he had become lost within his own thoughts, Sasuke glared at Tsunade again.
“ I heard you.” He said.
He could hear the woman sigh.
“ You haven’t taken my advice at all. Your chakra systems are worse than I thought. I’m taking you off missions for the time being.”
This made Sasuke furious.
“ You will not.” He angrily replied.
“ Excuse me? Do you realize what sort of situation your body is in?” She shouted.
“ It’s my body! I have the right, as a patient, to decide what I do with it. You can not force me off missions!”
“ I am not just ordering you as your doctor, but also as your Hokage. You are not fit for missions, so I am ordering you off of them!”
Sasuke sent the woman an icy glare that would have scared most people.
“ If you won’t let me go on missions, then I will go on them myself. You cannot stop me. You may be the Hokage for this village, but you do not have the authority to order me. I chose to stay here, I chose to follow your orders only because it benefits me. If I wanted to I could send this entire village into a frenzy within mere seconds. You would not want that would you, Tsunade?” He threatened.
They continued to exchange glares. Eventually, Tsunade closed her eyes and let out another frustrated sigh.
He knew this meant that she understood the validity of his threat. Taking the clipboard that had been lying at the desk nearby, she grabbed it before sitting at the chair next to his bed. Looking over what he assumed was his records, he noticed the blonde woman scribbling something before looking at him again.
“ What color are your petals now?” She asked.
“ Dark pink, almost red.” He answered, remembering the last time he had threw up.
“ Do you know what that means?” She asked again.
This time Sasuke did not say anything.
“ I did a scan on you earlier. Your chakra system has been damaged badly, to the point where it is irreversible. This damage has caused your chakra to leak throughout various parts of your body. I assume you have been feeling more tired lately and taking more breaks during training, yes?”
He nodded.
“ The reason why is because the chakra that has been leaking into your body has slowly been destroying your organs. Your lungs, heart, and muscles have been damaged, resulting in internal bleeding. When this happens, the tissues in your body automatically tries to heal itself. That is why the disease hasn’t killed you yet. But it takes time to fully heal, and even when it is healed, it leaves scars and doesn’t work the same anymore.”
Tsunade flipped through a few more pages of his records and wrote something else down before continuing again.
“ However, when you continuously wear your body down like this, when you continuously let the disease take over, and when you continuously go on these kinds of missions and get injured from it, your body will eventually be unable to keep up with healing your organs. That is the stage where you’re at right now, Sasuke.”
“ What does this mean then?” He asked.
“ The color of your petals indicate how much internal bleeding has been done and how much damage your body has taken. You may not feel much of the damage now, but you will when those petals turn red. You are already experiencing the symptoms, and they will only become more prominent as time goes on, unless you follow the advice I gave you. But once they turn red, the damage will exceed the amount of healing your body can do. You will feel a lot of pain and be significantly weakened. At that point, the damage to your body will be almost impossible to reverse. That’s why you should rest and let your body recover.”  She answered.
Sasuke looked at his hands, remembering what had happened during the mission.
For the most part, Hinata and Sasuke were able to get along fine. Even Shino had eventually accepted that their friendship was genuine and had started to converse with him as well. Although there was still a distance between the two, to everyone’s surprise, Shino and him were able to get along as well. They would not consider each other friends, but they had formed a mutual respect and understanding that was enough to be of comrades.
However, Kiba was not so accepting.
It did not bother Sasuke because he didn’t expect anything from them, but the man’s stubbornness had made their mission difficult to complete. He would completely ignore Sasuke’s suggestion or pretend he wasn’t there in the first place. When no one else would follow his attitude, the man would start unnecessary arguments with Sasuke or his other teammates. At that point, everyone had become fed up with his attitude. Even Akamaru, the large dog who was always loyal to his master and friend, became fed up with him.
That did not stop Kiba though. He continued to treat Sasuke that way for most of the mission. It wasn’t until they had found a lead to the missing shinobi, did Hinata had finally snapped at him for his lack of professionalism. However, it was only when Hinata threatened to fight him and send him back to Konoha alone, did Kiba finally shut up.
Once they had located the missing nin, the team was able to retrieve him and were on their way back to Konoha. The journey back had been fine, and they only needed to travel one more day before reaching the village.
However, when night came, that was when they had been attacked.
“ And what happens if I don’t?” He asked.
“ Sasuke-kun!”
There had been five of them waiting deep within the forest. They were surrounded from all sides and were taken by surprised. Shino had been the first to get hurt. A poison-laced kunai had hit his arm causing the man to collapse in pain, while the missing nin was unconscious. It seemed the poison was specifically meant for Shino; the beetles in his body were unable to get rid of it. Akamaru was guarding the two, so that meant only three of them were able to fight.
Under normal circumstances, Sasuke would have been able to sense them and taken them all out before they would have arrived. But he hadn’t been able to notice anything astray. Neither had the others, but only because the enemies had seemed to know how to deal with them. It seemed his senses had been dulled from the disease. Not only that, but after just taking out two, Sasuke was already low on stamina.
“ We need to leave.”
Hinata nodded in agreement, but Kiba disagreed.
“ We can just take them all out! You already took two.” He growled.
“ No. We need to leave now.” Sasuke said as he continued looking around, waiting for them to strike.
“ Sasuke-kun’s right. We don’t know how many more there are. Our mission is to bring the nin back, not to fight. This isn’t the time to argue, Kiba-kun!” Hinata answered.
It seemed Hinata knew what Sasuke was thinking.
When two more kunais were thrown at them, Kiba finally agreed. The mission was more important.
“ Fine!” The man groaned.
“ Hyuga, Inuzuka, take those two and put them on the dog and leave.” He said.
When Hinata was about to protest against his instructions, Sasuke cut her off.
“ I’ll be following closely behind. I need you two to protect the others and get back to the village in one piece. Do not lose the nin. I’ll make sure to keep them off of you all. Now go!”  Sasuke shouted.
Kiba nodded and started to gather the nin and Shino onto Akamaru, while Hinata and Sasuke continued to ward off the weapons thrown at them. When Kiba was finally done, he called for Hinata to get ready to leave. Right as they were ready to go, Sasuke had cleared an opening for them to go.
As Kiba and the others began running, Hinata gave him one last look. Her large, worried eyes stared at him as if she was trying to find something. When Kiba shouted again, it seemed to startle Hinata out of her thoughts.
“ Be careful.” she whispered before going to Kiba.
That was the last time Sasuke had seen Hinata before his eyes turned red.
“ If you don’t, then your body will continue to damage itself until it completely breaks down. When your petals turn as red as wine, then there will be no going back.” She said.
Sasuke looked at Tsunade again, this time with a blank expression.
“ Once that happens, it means you will die.”
A sudden crash by the door startled the two of them. When they both turned to see what had caused the noise, all they could see was a girl with short pink hair and green eyes standing by the door with a fallen tray and pieces of cut fruits on the floor. The girl looked terrified as she looked at them.
It was Sakura.

Day 2 - Worlds - Greek Mythology
Sasuke didn’t particularly care for the “You stole her” sentiment that everyone seemed to form around his relationship. Not that he tended to bother himself with what mortals thought in the first place.
But when Naruto was coming down into his domain, interrupting his work, his personal time, with these foolish rumors. He was forced to confront them.
“I didn’t steal her.” He scoffed.
“Locals say she found an ‘narcissus’,” Naruto looked at him pointedly. “That doesn’t normally grow in the area. When she went to pick it, a hole opened up in the ground and she disappeared.”
Sasuke didn’t even blink. “Locals say lots of things.”
Naruto rubbed down his face exasperatedly. “Sasuke,”
It wasn’t exactly not ‘not’ true...
Sasuke had watched Hinata for a long time. A diety, like himself, though nowhere near as powerful. Few were. She was weak, even for her family. The Hyuga had been tasked with an important job, cultivating the fields, bringing life to the people.
Hinata was weaker, more gentle than that. But she was sweet, and kind. She loved flowers. He had seen that.
...so he might’ve baited her with a narcissus.
So, he might’ve grabbed her without expressly asking permission.
But she was happier, here, now, with him.
He had watched her in the human world long enough to know that she wouldn’t miss it.
Hinata’s life had been full of nothing but sadness and heartache and disappointment from the people that were supposed to care the most about her.
Sasuke didn’t know when he started watching her. But she caught his eye once when she was much younger. Not in some perverted way, but he did notice her. She looked awkward next to her family of prestige and greatness. Her hair was chopped short in adolescence, and the only thing she could muster was a few daisies, while her younger sister could till a whole field.
Sasuke could remember what it was like, to be overshadowed by a sibling. Hinata too had seemed determined to better herself, like he had. She too had faced the disappointment and dismissal of her father. The difference between Hinata and Sasuke though, was she never seemed to quite catch up.
She didn’t need to worry about that anymore. He had seen to it.
He found her deeper in his domain, in one of the rooms that she had thought fit to make hers.
“What are you doing?”
She turned around and smiled openly at him, gesturing for him to join her. She was wearing white, contrast to Sasuke’s black. Her hair was beautiful, thick and dark and twisted around, out of her face and down her back, braided with white narcissus.
His flower.
She was looking over a larger bowl, full of water with mud and rocks at the bottom.
“Is that one of the salad bowls?” He asked, mildly perturbed.
“Shh.”
Sasuke side eyed her. He had never heard someone hush him before, at least in adulthood, especially in his own domain.
“Look closer.” She coaxed.
“A lotus.”
She nodded, smiling happy at her little flower. “I finally got one to grow.”
Hinata herself could make flowers bloom anywhere, even in the Land of the Dead. But to grow one organically -
Sasuke smiled, letting his arm wrap around her waist, pulling her against his chest. She settled into him easily, her hand covering over his, her soft skin brushing against him. He leaned his head down into her hair, breathing her in.
“They’re going to try and take you back.”
Hinata went rigid in his hold. This was the first time he had ever spoken about the circumstances surrounding her stay there. He wasn’t sure if she was holding her breath from excitement or dread.
“My family?” She asked, quietly.
“And Naruto.”
She turned to look up at him, her eyes searching his face. “Are you going to let them?”
Sasuke let go of her, in favor of looking down back into the lotus bowl.
Hinata was his wife now. Just on principle, he couldn’t sit back and let someone else tell him what to do with his wife in his own kingdom.
But, if he had misjudged her... If they came and she wanted to leave...
“Sasuke?”
Her soft voice tore him away from the small blossom in the murky salad bowl.
He had let go of her, but she was still clutching onto him. Her small hands, fisted in the fabric of clothing.
Sasuke tried not to smirk. Really, he did.
She wanted to stay. He had known it all along, but seeing the desperation of it on her face had settled him.
He grabbed her hand, prying off his chest and cupping it in his own. “There are... ways... of making it impossible for them to take you.”
“Okay.” She whispered, her fingers lacing with his as he tugged her even closer.
They were now flushed together. She didn’t want to leave him. She was willing to stay. With him. Forever.
Sasuke held his free hand up, a pomegranate appearing in his palm. Hinata’s eyes sparkled as she side eyed him. Sasuke could do unimaginable feats of power, and producing a single pomegranate was enough to enchant her.
“Just this?” She asked quietly.
“Just this.”
He left her to decide on her own.
When the did come for her, as Sasuke knew they would, it was actually much later than he expected.
The Hyūga had turned the above world into cold, unforgiving winter, flooding the Under World with the dead. He was sure they did this on purpose, making Sasuke work overtime to compensate.
Hinata had taken to helping Sasuke, perched upon the días next to him for hours on end, quiet if not for her ocasional inputs. Sasuke was just happy to have her there, to brush his hand against hers, look over and see her beautiful face when the job got tedious.
When they came, that’s where she was, her place at his side.
Sasuke didn’t know if it was unconscious or intentional, but Hinata had started dressing like him. She was clad in thick, black shinny fabric that bared much more skin than she had before coming here. He had memorialized the narcissus into a sliver cleaning crown upon her head.
She was sight to behold when her family came. Her looking down upon them. Her regality, her power, her beauty, and their insignificance.
“Naruto.” Sasuke only extended the respect to his “brother”.
“Sasuke.” Naruto smiled beside himself, but sobered when he remembered why he had come. “The humans are dying.”
“I’m aware. Because I, for one, am doing my job.” Sasuke sneered straight at Hiashi.
“Cut it out Uchiha. Return my daughter.”
Sasuke raised an eyebrow, ready to retort but Hinata’s hand reached for his, her pale fingers interlacing with his own.
“My duty is to my husband. My new home.” Hinata affirmed.
The Hyūga gaped up at Sasuke’s wife. His Queen. He could only smirk in victory. She had only been with him for six months but it was enough to see her truly blossom into what she had always meant to become.
Hiashi recovered quickly. “Stop being a brat Hinata. Come down.”
“Sasuke,” Naruto cut in before the family feud could make anything worse. “I think that we can come to an agreement.”
“She has already eaten the pomegranate.” Sasuke’s said, dismissive.
“You think you’re so clever.” Hiashi sneered. “No simple fruit could bind her here. Not a Hyūga. At least not forever.”
Not forever?
“That’s what were here to talk about.” Naruto scratched the back of his head nervously.
“Sasuke,”
She had turned to him, looking horrified. “I-I-I did what you said. Sasuke, please I’m sorry.”
He didn’t know what she was apologizing for. He didn’t blame her.
This situation wasn’t even considered a technicality. They were bending the rules, to still the pride of the Hyuga. They couldn’t undo what had already been done.
Hinata was his.
Sasuke begrudgingly understood where Naruto was coming from. The humans were dying. If there were no humans, there were no gods.
He had grossly underestimated Hiashi’s pride.
“I’ll see you soon.” He parted with her stiffly.
Hiashi moved up to the días upon Sasuke’s verbal agreement.
He was not a man to let the room see who he truly was.
Hinata was different.
“Sasuke, please.”
Tears flooded her opal eyes and she cling to him.
Sasuke saw her as he had always seen her, truly and deeply.
As much as she didn’t want to let him go, she didn’t want to let her power go.
She was finally something more. Something dark and powerful and dangerous and she meant something. She was filled with purpose, not only to Sasuke but his world as a whole. Her world too now.
And it was being stripped from her by the people that had always tried to stifle her.
She was terrified
He kissed her, opened mouthed in front of everyone, not that he had given that half a thought.
She tasted sad and sweet and of pomegranates.
“I’ll see you soon.” He promised.

[ Woes || @sasuhina-renaissance-week ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: White Hands of Healing ] [ Hiraeth - homesickness for a home you cannot return to ]
It’s almost enough to make him nauseous.
Standing where the gate once stood, he finds only an open street. No wall, no banners, no clan crests.
He was told that when Pein attacked, the village was leveled. Even now, the crater largely remains, too deep and too wide to fill completely. So Konoha adapted.
And without him in it - without a single Uchiha left in the village they helped found - the district he’d grown up in was reclaimed and turned to public land. Homes, shops, and strangers now line the streets that echo those he ran as a child.
There’s nothing left.
Sasuke stares, almost uncomprehending. His home is...gone. Literally, physically, gone. The crest upon his back is the only remnant of his clan in this village. The wiping of their presence from Konoha’s history - despite being such an integral part - is nearly complete. And while he’d been gone...it might as well have been.
He can’t begin to identify how he feels. He’d abandoned Konoha when young. His goals had meant more than a ghost-filled compound. Then he’d come to hate it: the place that had used and abused his brother, his family, his clan. Even now, his truth is stuck in his throat, too volatile to be heard. Itachi gave his life - in so many ways - to this village. The people in it. Sasuke then vowed to do the same.
...and what does he have to show for it?
By some grace, his thoughts are interrupted by someone he’d never begin to expect.
“...it’s so strange to see this place so different.”
Turning, he sees another dōjutsu clan member: Hyūga Hinata. Someone he’s never paid much mind, admittedly. She, in turn, stares down the street with a somber look on her face. “...part of me...still can’t believe it’s all gone.”
Still he looks to her, unsure how to reply. She has her clan. Her land. Granted, she’s still lost her place as heiress, but at least there’s still enough Hyūga left for that to matter.
...in a way, he supposes he’s jealous.
Hinata then shifts her gaze to him, hesitating at his expression. “...s-sorry. It’s...not really my place to speak, is it? But...I’m sorry. I can’t imagine…” Her tone fades to silence, eyes dropping.
“...not your fault,” he manages.
“...no. But the other clans, we should have said something. We should have -”
“It doesn’t matter. I’d have no use for that much space anyway.” He writes it off, tries to play down how hollow the sight makes him feel.
“...it’s not just about the space. It’s...about your heritage. Everything you knew. It was w-wrong of the village to take that from you. It’s your home.”
“...a home I can’t return to.”
For a moment, she almost looks tempted to ask something...but changes her mind. Instead she tries, “...do you...have somewhere else to stay?”
“...not yet. I’m not sure I’m going to be in Konoha long, anyway.”
That begets a look of surprise. “...really?”
There’s a flicker in him, just for a second, that almost tells her everything. There’s something liberating about talking to her. She’s neither stifling like his teammates, nor scorning like...everyone else. For the first time in a good long while, he’s just...talking to someone. No pretense, no animosity. Just...conversation. Granted, it’s a somber topic...but there’s little the Uchiha has left to speak of that’s not.
But then he changes his mind and simply says, “...I need time to think. And it’s too...loud here. Too busy.”
“...too painful?”
“...that too.”
Hinata’s head bows in understanding. “...I’m sure it is. Strange, at the very least. A lot has changed. Both here, and...in you, too.”
A nod.
“...well, if you need a place to stay...I’m sure we could lodge you.”
Brow furrowing, he gives her a questioning look. “...a bit odd to let in outsiders, isn’t it?”
“Well, the Hyūga and the Uchiha used to be brother clans,” she replies, managing a hint of a smile. “If anyone’s less of a stranger, it would be you. And...you wouldn’t be bothered there. The Hyūga lands are quiet.”
“...something tells me your father might not like me there. Nor anyone else.”
“...you’re a comrade. And a friend. If I insist...I’m sure they’d listen.” A pause. “...I’m not heiress anymore, but...after everything that happened in the war, otōsama has been listening to me more. To...a lot of people more. If I explain, surely he’d have no problem with it.”
Sasuke can’t help but hesitate. Friend…? He’s barely ever spoken to her. Up until recently, he was an enemy of the village, a nukenin. But she calls him friend? Realizing she’s awaiting an answer, he simply offers, “...I’ll think about it.”
She gives a dip of her head. “I’ll speak to otōsama. Because...everyone should have a place to rest, and be able to close a door on the world. Konoha took that from you, so...I’d like to give it back. At least...for a little while, as b-best I can.”
For a moment, he can’t manage a reply. Naruto offered him a bunk in his apartment, but Sasuke knew he’d get no peace there. Sakura had been shut down in an instant by her parents...which Sasuke couldn’t help but agree with. And Kakashi had known better than to suggest anything.
But they’re all he’d expected. There’s still bad blood between him and many...not that he blames anyone. And yet, even after so much time, all he’s done, and having barely known her, Hinata steps up with an offer of her own. Without a catch, and taking into account what he wants most: solitude. Quiet. Somewhere to just...be able to sit and think over everything that’s happened. Everything he needs to do next. Because they’re friends. Because she knows, at least in part, that what Konoha has done to him is wrong.
...if only she knew the rest…
Pushing the thought aside, he swallows before murmuring, “...I appreciate it. I...don’t want to intrude -”
“Nonsense,” she quips, cutting off his apology. “I’d not have o-offered if I didn’t mean it. It’s an invitation. One you don’t have to accept, but...one I feel I should give. So...take some time to think about it. Either way...I hope things turn around for you, Sasuke-kun. Please take care of yourself.”
He gives a curt nod, suddenly feeling almost as overwhelmed as he did before she arrived. Watching her go, there’s a turn back toward where the Uchiha once laid claim.
But no more.
He can’t go back, no matter how much he aches for the past. What he’s lost.
...it’s time to move forward.
Well, it’s after midnight here, but at least I’m more caught up than I was!      Admittedly, I can’t recall if the Uchiha lands really were taken back by the village in canon. But it makes sense after the Pein attack for unoccupied land (owned only by missing nin) to be repurposed. If this wasn’t how it went, then...consider this slightly AU xD      Hinata, I think, would be very understanding of such a thing. She hasn’t lost what Sasuke has, but she lost her position as heiress. Lost some family she cared deeply for. And given she’s part of a big clan like the Uchiha were, I’m sure her empathy means being able to picture losing that as he did. And I think she’d offer him a helping hand, if given the proper chance.      But Kishi just didn’t see it that way =3=      Anyway, it’s late and I’ve got a few things to do on another blog before bed, so I’ll wrap this up here. Hope y’all enjoyed, and I’ll try to stay more on schedule for the rest of the week!

June 24: Words
Jijivisha- the strong eternal desire to live and continue living
“Should I be even alive?” He would often ask himself.
The question would come to his mind in different forms-- most of the time it was a passing thought, other times it would keep him up all night. No one could blame him if he thought such things. Some people even wonder the same. After all, he lived a sinful life. He was responsible for the death of many, including his brother’s. He was not a hero until the later part of his life. He was supposed to be punished for all his crimes, not to be granted any pardon. Yes, he did help restore peace to the village, but he can’t help but wonder if it amounts equally to the weight of his wrong doings. In his eyes, it doesn’t, so he took it upon himself to atone for his sins. He became a wanderer, helping anyone who needs help while keeping a low profile. He does go back to his village once in a while, and it is in his way back home that the question echoes loudly in his mind. For when he sees the old familiar streets that he was not supposed to walk on, the faces people of the village that either acknowledges him as a hero or as a ruthless villain, and the re-established buildings that was built upon chaos, he is reminded of what he had done, and he starts to doubt again.
“Should I be even alive?”
And a part of him always screams “No.”. A part of him denies this second chance he was blessed with. A part of him always whispers in his ears, “You’re not worthy of this life.”
As he stopped before the door of a modest house, that part of him dissipates, and as someone answers the door before he can even open it, his question is answered.
“Sasuke- kun! Welcome home!” Hinata greeted. The warm glow of the light from their house flowed out from their door, but her face illuminated more radiantly as she looked at  him with delight in her eyes.
Ah, yes. He should be alive.
For in life, he has a home to come back to. For in life, he has someone waiting for him. For in life, he has someone who would come rushing to him as soon as he is back. For in life, he can be caged inside the soft embrace of his love as he hold her dearly. For it is in life where he should receive forgiveness, and be granted acceptance of him entirely, criminal and wanderer alike. For if he is alive, he will be reminded that love heals what is broken.
So he looked at the pair of pale lavender orbs, and witness the good in being alive.
“I’m home.”
And it is to love and be loved.
A/N: omg i forgot today yesterday was the start of the glorious week. I'm sorry if this is short and bit rough. This was supposed to be a warm up fic bc it's been a while since the last time i wrote ff, but anyways I hope it still gave you some feels.

Hanahaki byou
He does not say anything after that. The flowers filled his chest, and he spilt his guts out. He would hide the thorns underneath his tongue and amongst his teeth. He's been in love with her everything. And he's in love with the way her soft lips quiver. And the red tide that swamped the swells of her pale cheeks at the mere thought of the golden boy.
Her warm being reeked of fresh lavender and it filled him to the brim with the nostalgia of the past. That dull tell-tell feeling that ached at the base of his throat, immediately it squeezed the air out of his lungs. She looks just like his mother to him. He can already taste it. And he thinks they share the same wilting fingertips. That seems to lull the disarray of weary thoughts. The gaunt fingers would comb through the black tendrils of hair that clung like vines against his skin. Whenever his mind was on the run and when the flowers tasted the sweetest.
The way her lilac eyes glinted, ever so softly. And when the morning ichor that dripped from her features like honey; the gold that glistened on the plump of her lips.
Or the way the soft pads of her fingertips glided against the union between the stiff, rigid plastic and mangled flesh of his prosthetic arm.  And it inevitably was with such care as if his bones were made of glass and his skin nothing more than paper. He hated how tenderly she spoke to him as if his mouth was undrowned; with the bittersweet taste of rosebuds and rusted copper pennies. And as if hands were unsoiled with blood and his soul was not drenched with guilt.

OKAY SO I ran out of time to do a drabble (and honestly had no ideas xD) SO this is an aesthetic based on my fantasy verse Divine Light (which is actually lore of my own creation :3). Usually I’d post a drabble on @kusunogatari if you’re wondering why this account hasn’t done anything else lol
In Divine Light, Sasuke’s a fire mage with lightning as a secondary focus, and Hinata water with a secondary focus in ice! I did a drabble in that verse earlier in the week :3
Hopefully it’s a worthy contribution to the event, and all images are credited as best I could find!

The Disease of Unrequited Love Chapter 6
This is for Sasuhina Renaissance Week 2018! Not sure how long this story is going to be, so hope you all enjoy the ride like I will be. I haven’t written in a while, so apologies for any mistakes. I’ll probably end up rewriting this someday because I didn’t like how I wrote in some parts, but for now please enjoy the story~
A/N: So sorry this chapter took so long! Due to slight laziness, writer’s block, and life getting in the way, I ended up taking forever to write this chapter. To all the readers taking their time to read this story, thanks for being patient with me.
To Sasuke’s surprise, they had managed to make it just in time to ring the bell. Despite the crowd of people gathered around, the ringing of the bell brought a sense of peace amongst the chaos. Once everyone was able to ring the bell, they moved on to writing their wishes on the wooden tablets that were being handed out.
He could hear the group excitedly talk amongst one another about the wishes that they had written. Unsurprisingly, many of them were expected. Naruto had loudly wished for a lot of good ramen, which earned a punch from their pink haired teammate. On the other hand, Sakura and Ino both had wished to find love during the new year, although they both already had someone in mind. Lee had wished to remain as youthful as he was at the moment, so that he would be able to train more. Shikamaru had wished to keep his workload light and easy. TenTen had wished to collect more weapons and gain a mastery over them. Shino had wished to discover a new insect species during his missions.
Despite this, there were some who had wishes that surprised everyone. Choji had wished to become a top chef, surprising everyone, save for Ino and Shikamaru. Sai had wished to find a certain plant that he had come across during his missions. When asked, he said it was because the plant produced a very beautiful color that could only be replicated using it. Kiba had wished to become brave enough to ask her out. This was the most surprising out of them all. Everyone had questioned him in attempts to find out who the girl was, but the man had refused to answer telling them all to stay out of his business. Although Sasuke had noticed the way he had blushed and avoided Ino’s gaze.
“ What are you planning on writing on it?”
Sasuke turned to Hinata in slight surprise. The others were by a food stall waiting for a table. He hadn’t realized they were the only ones left who still needed to write a wish. He kept his gaze on her, noticing some of the snow that clung to her long hair. He noticed her redden cheeks caused by the cold winter chill and the way her pale eyes were slightly dazed from tiredness and the wind. Yet despite the heavy snow and the cold wind that blew, she still smiled at him in a way that made the harsh weather look alluring. She reminded him of a snow fairy.
A very beautiful snow fairy.
“ I’m not sure yet.” he finally said.
“ I see.” she nodded.
“ What is your wish?” he asked.
He saw the way her eyes glanced at a table that the others were sitting in before turning back to look at the tablet in her hand. He knew who she was looking at. She let out a soft sigh before smiling at him again.
Taking one of the small brushes on the tablet, Hinata slowly wrote on the piece of wood, careful not to mess up any strokes. When she had finished, he could see the neat delicate writing on the wood.
“ I wish to become strong.” she softly whispered.
He looked into her eyes, unsure of what he was looking for. He could sense a pain brought by the hardship of war and the duty of being a Hyuga and shinobi. He could also sense a sadness within her that was from the heartache of unrequited feelings, a sadness that Sasuke was too familiar with.
“ You already are strong.” he said.
She let out a forced laugh.
“ Thank you for thinking so,” she sadly smiled.
Even after all these years, he could still see the lack of confidence within her. He could see by the way her eyes roamed towards the sky that she was thinking about something. It was most likely what she had just said earlier.
He knew how important being strong was for her. It was something that had been drilled into her throughout childhood. It was one of the few things that most people didn’t realized how serious she took it for.
It was also something that he admired and respected about her.
“ Hey, what’s taking you all so long!” a voice cried out.
Startled, they both turned to the table near the food stall. The voice belonged to Ino, who had been secretly watching them from afar along with the others. Seeing that they were waiting, Hinata quickly apologized before turning to Sasuke to tell him know that she would be waiting along with them.
Soon Sasuke was left alone. As Hinata walked away from him, he continued to watch her before looking at the tablet in his hand. He slowly took a brush and dipped it in the ink before taking a moment to pause and think about the wish he was going to write.
He already knew his wish, but hesitated to write it.
But as the snow continued to fall and the area became more crowded, Sasuke knew that he needed to hurry. So with a determined sigh, he quickly wrote on the piece of wood and hung it up along with the rest. Silently, he read over the wishes that the others had written until his eyes had reached hers.
I hope to become stronger and protect the ones I love.
It was a typical wish that he knew Hinata would make, yet the meaning behind it held so much more significance than one would assume. He knew because she had told him.
And that was why when he saw her wish, all of his hesitations went away.
Sasuke knew that he had made the right wish.
---------- The wind had calmed significantly as midnight appeared closer. It seemed as if the whole village was there, all waiting for New Years to come. Blankets, carpets, tarps, and tents were all scattered among the area with families and friends of all sorts resting within them. Sasuke’s group was no different. They were all standing on the hilltop watching the stars in the sky.
“ Hey, do you think they’re going to show the fireworks this year?” Tenten excitedly asked.
“ Of course the are. They show it every year. I don’t know why you’re so excited.” grumbled an impatient Kiba.
Sasuke could see the death glare that she had given the boy.
“ This is all so troublesome.” sighed a bored Shikamaru.
He was leaning with his back against Choji, while his friend happily munched away at the food that everyone had brought. Along with Shino and Sai, the three of them were drinking tea together.
“ Patience my fellow comrades! Soon we will see the most glorious fireworks Konoha has ever put!” said Lee as he proudly stood on a random boulder he had found.
Soon Naruto joined in as well.
“ Hell yeah! This is gonna be the best News Year ever!”
Sasuke could hear the others sigh in annoyance. However, when he turned to look at Hinata, he could see her muffled giggles.
It gave him a twinge of jealousy.
When her eyes met his, she looked down in silent embarrassment. Having been caught staring at his best friend, he knew that her flushed cheeks and the way she bit her lips were in response and in acknowledgement that she knew that she had been caught. And although Sasuke could feel a slight pain in his heart knowing that those feelings weren’t meant for him, he couldn’t help but think that Hinata looked adorable at that very moment.
It was moments like these that Sasuke was grateful for the close relationship they had developed over time. The subtle, yet obvious expressions were an unfamiliar side of hers that very little people knew. Even amongst her friends, only those closest to her really knew how she was, but there were even fewer that understood her.
It was moments like these that made Sasuke love her.
Yet, it was also moments like these that gave Sasuke pain.
He didn’t know how long they had all stood there for, but a sudden burst of yelling startled all of them.
“ N-Naruto-kun!” she shouted.
Her shy, yet determined expression told Sasuke all he needed to know. He knew what was going to happen.
She was going to confess to him.
“ Uh...what is it, Hinata?” Naruto asked in confusion.
His blonde haired friend's expression seemed to make her even more nervous. Sasuke could feel the hairs on his skin stand on its ends. His hands unconsciously closed into a fist as he continued to watch the scene before him.
“ I...I want to talk to you a-alone, if it's okay.” she said.
Naruto nodded in response and before he knew it, they had already walked off together to another area.
He could hear the others whispering amongst each other about the scene that had just unfolded beforehand. It seemed Tenten, Shino, and Kiba already knew what was going on, while the others were left with curiosity. Ino seemed to understand the gist of the situation, but didn't say anything.
Sakura, on the other hand, held a worried expression.
It seemed she knew what was about to happen. Yet, she too kept quiet and tried to steer her friends from prying further and instead focused on the celebration happening at the moment.
It seemed to work.
Soon, the scene was pushed out of their minds and everyone returned to normal. They continued to joke around and make conversation with one another. Everyone, though with mixed feelings, had managed to let go of Hinata and Naruto's interaction.
Everyone except him.
He knew that this was inevitable. It was bound to happen sooner or later. He had even encouraged her to do so.
Yet when he saw the two of them walking away together, he could feel something in his chest hurt. The familiar ache in his heart slowly spread to his limbs and throat, causing a disruption in his breathing. The cold chill of air seemed to freeze as soon as it entered his body. His hands had unconsciously tightened into a fist, whether out of frustration or jealousy, he didn't know.
He just knew he needed to go.
“ I’m leaving.” he said.
Everyone turned to him in surprise.
“ Why are you leaving? It's almost midnight.” Sakura asked.
Sasuke ignored her and turned his back away from everyone.
“ Sasuke?” Ino said in shock.
He felt a hand grab him. It was Kiba.
“ Your attitude really pisses me off. Acting like you’re fucking cool or something like we’re still twelve.”
Tenten tried to calm the man down, but Kiba was too angry to be stopped at the moment.
“ The only reason any of us are here with you is because of Naruto and Hinata. If they didn’t beg us everyday, we wouldn’t have even given you our time of day.”
“ Kiba, stop it.”
Kiba ignored his pink haired teammate and continued on. He could see slowly formed fists as the man continued to step closer into his space. Everyone could feel the tension in the air. It was almost palpable at this point.
“ Yet here you are, Sasuke fucking Uchiha, still acting all high and mighty after putting everyone through hell all these years. Shouldn’t ya at least show some respect to us?”
Sasuke looked at everyone as he maintained an expressionless face before glaring back at Kiba.
He could feel the flames within his body ignite. The aches that pressured the muscles in his body felt painful. He knew the symptoms were starting to show. It took Sasuke everything he had to stop his body from visibly shaking.
“ I never asked any of you to do this. It was your own choice, not mine.”
He walked past Kiba, careful not to come into contact with the man. If he did, he knew he wouldn’t be able to control his body.
“ Hey, you bastard, come back here!”
Kiba tried to go after him, but was quickly stopped by Shikamaru. Despite the years that had gone by, they all knew one thing: if Sasuke wanted to do something, there was no stopping him. He could hear Sakura sigh in defeat before giving him a smile.
“ Sasuke, I’m not sure why you have to leave right now, but thanks for staying with us today. Happy New Years to you.” She said.
Sasuke continued to walk away from them.
If he had to be honest, he wouldn’t have mind spending the rest of his night with them. He knew they were planning on going to Naruto’s house later to party and although he meant what he had said to Kiba, that didn’t mean that he did not appreciate their gesture. He knew what his past actions had meant for his future; he had accepted the consequences that came with it.
That was why despite the hatred he felt for the village, he was appreciative of this gesture from them. It eased the distrust he felt towards Konoha and made him a bit relieved that there were still people, no matter how small, that were willing to trust him.
However, the pains in his body told a different story. He knew he would not be able to control the symptoms any longer if he stayed. He had to leave.
Still, he wanted to show them his appreciation.
He could feel the muscles in his body burn as he turned around one last time. He could see the others trying to calm Kiba by diffusing the tension through jokes and banter. It seemed to work as he could see the laughter on their faces. His throat burned and he could feel his hands shake, but with effort, Sasuke was able to go unnoticed. Despite the burning he felt as each breath left his mouth, Sasuke forced himself to control his body so that he could say what he wanted before finally leaving.
“ Happy New Year.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Sasuke quickly sprinted out towards the path leading to his home.
He didn’t even noticed the shocked expressions on their faces.

Day 1 - Words - Hanahaki
*disclaimer - Sasuke is not really a good person*
She coughed into her dark, ruby handkerchief, for the thousandth time and Sasuke finally saw it. Saw the thing he knew deep down in his heart but never actually allowed his thoughts to shape around. Not allowing the words to form in his mind. Not even letting it be thought into existence.
But he couldn’t deny his eyes. They missed nothing.
Tuberculosis.
One droplet of blood missed the crimson cloth and stained her previously pure white, lace gloves. Staining everything along with it.
When he finally managed to tear his eyes away from the drop, it really was a small drop, her eyes met his, almost startling.
They were sad, looking at him cautiously. Resigned to her misery, yet not wanting to spread it.
“I told you not to waste your time on me.”
Anger welled in Sasuke. A animal he knew well. He was a simple man, ruled by few things, but always succumbed to those raw emotions. Rage.
He’d struck women before. And beside having horrific nightmares of the look on his dead mother’s face if she ever found out, he held little regret for that as well. But he wasn’t angry at her.
Angry at something he couldn’t kill. Something too abstract for him to think much about.
Just a name.
Tuberculosis.
A name that brought with it pain and death. Disease and suffering. Nobody survived its wrath. There was nothing Sasuke could do. And he would do it, if he could.
Realizing, now, out next to the canyon, he would move heaven and hell, kill anything, anything, everything, to make it so he had never seen that drop of blood on her glove.
But there was nothing to do.
The first time Sasuke saw her, in town, he had stopped dead in his tracks. Not because she was beautiful, though she was. Because he knew her. Well, not her specifically. The thick dark hair, pale eyes, traveling in a pack. Deja Vu washed over him of a time he had been desperately trying to forget.
North. New York.
Hyugas.
He blinked for a few moments, adjusting to the sunlight. He had spent all night above the saloon with Sakura, and he honestly still could’ve been drunk for all he knew. His hangover was too rough for him to listen to one more second of her talking without shoving her down the steps, so he had decided to show himself out.
Konoha was the closets thing he had to a safe haven. He tried to limited his crimes in this place as much as possible, and breaking the neck or at least a leg on this poor towns most valuable whore was sure to put him in some trouble.
But now, a raging head ache, a stomach full of acid, blazing hot sun, dusty, bustling street, and a ghost from his past, Sasuke was considering heading back inside. Drinking away the drink had always been a viable option.
The group didn’t notice him and continued their walk away from the street he was on.
He considered leaving that very night, but rounding up his team when they had just returned would be easier said than done. Suigetsu would be game for anything, and Karin agreed to what Sasuke said, at least eventually. But Jugo would need time, convincing.
Plus, Sasuke needed to act like a damn man.
Seeing one family from back east shouldn’t send him scrambling out of town like a beaten dog.
It wouldn’t be a couple days later that he wished he had left. Left and never came back.
Admittedly, he was startled when she approached him. He was back in town, getting “supplies”. At least that’s what he ended up telling her.
He was drunk in the middle of the day again. Not stumbling around, making a fool of himself. But he was definitely not in his right might.
“Excuse me, sir? You’re Sasuke Uchiha, yes?”
He had been adjusting his horses straps, and didn’t look up.
“My name is Hinata. Hinata Hyuga.”
There was a pause to see if he’d reply.
“I was wondering if, possibly, you remembered me. From -“
“Hn.” He finally interrupted.
He didn’t need any reminders from some stranger who thought they knew him.
“I have some pictures that you might be interested in.”
“Doubt it.” He grumbled.
“They’re of your mother.”
Sasuke froze.
Finally, he turned to look at her.
She was similar from the minuscule amount that he remembered of her. Black hair, white eyes. They all looked like that though. She was wearing a rather thick dress for the weather, high collared, ending up under her chin. Her skin was hidden under the shadow of a matching hat, and he couldn’t tell if it was powdered or naturally that ghostly white. Her cheeks and the tips of her nose were tinged pink, as if she could be cold in the heat and her attire.
He didn’t end up saying much else, and she left with an open invitation.
He planned on never speaking to her again.
But Sasuke found himself on the Hyuga ranch the very next day. Sober this time. But a flask of whiskey in his vest pocket could change that at any moment.
Hinata didn’t look surprised to see him in the slightest. Though the rest of her family sure seemed shocked. And not anywhere close to happy or welcoming.
Hinata didn’t mind. She invited him in, dressed much like the last time he had seen her, thick dress, sans hat and gloves but still just as pale. Her thick black her twisted into bun on the back of her head. Her skin just as stark white.
He saw what she was holding as she was handling a small shoe box. Clutched in one hand was the red handkerchief. The first time he had ever seen it, he didn’t think much about it.
His mind was too busy, terrified of what he would see.
Hinata walked them into the very first room of the house. Then excused every person that had come to check on them. On her.
She handed him the whole box delicately, once she had sat down on one of the sitting chairs. She had offered him one but he chose to stand.
Sasuke opened the box reverently and then discarded the lid. Cautiously peering inside.
“How’d you get these photos?” Sasuke’s voice was calm, even as his hand shook, picking up the first black and white photo on the top.
“Our mothers we’re friends. Most of your families belongings, well...”
Hinata probably didn’t want to tell him that there was nothing left. Not after those fucking vultures hand come through it. He was starting to notice how disgustingly nice she was already.
She coughed into the red handkerchief, the first time he had seen her do it. It was a wet, hacking sound and she turned away from him, did her best to stifle it.
He might’ve picked up on it then. But he couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think.
“Excuse me.” Hinata apologized, dabbing at her mouth. “Our mothers were close friends as girls. Mine made sure to save what photos were left in your household.”
Sasuke had been trying to hold a small portrait of his mother, but he could barley see her face. His hands shook, his vision blurred.
He dropped the box down on the chaise and walked straight out of the ranch, out to their property fence, unhooked his horse, and left.
He was never going to come back.
It only took two night with Sakura for him to change his mind.
He came up the next day unexpectedly. Uninvited. From the looks of the other family members - clearly unwanted.
But she smiled at him. Pale, wrapped in a winter dress again.
“Do you come back for the photos?” She asked, softly.
Her smile was small and Sasuke stared at her face for awhile.
“No.”
She looked confused for a moment.
Sasuke looked around the room quickly and then surveyed Hinata again. She was pretty. Her black hair was wrapped in a twist, and even though she wore dresses that were too thick, he could tell she was built built better than any whore he had ever cashed out for. Her skin was ghostly white but her cheeks always had a tint of warmth to them.
He saw it again this time, and finally gave it a second thought. The deep red handkerchief.
“Do you want to go on a walk?” He finally asked.
The sun was harsh and warmed Sasuke’s dark clothes as they walked through a small path on her property. Though Hinata also opted for a white knit shawl and a hat before embarking outside, which only made Sasuke’s skin itch. This was all before Hinata had to talk several family members into allowing her to accompany him.
A snake crossed their path halfway through, making Hinata freeze next to him.
“I don’t care for snakes.” She whispered.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, shoving her gently around it. “Should’ve stayed in New York then.”
She didn’t reply as they made their way to the mulberry trees.
“Mr. Uchiha,”
He snorted. “Hn?”
“I don’t think going on many more of these outing will be to your best interest.”
Sasuke raised his eyebrows, unable to keep the smirk off his face. “Most people are worried about their own best interest when alone with me.”
Hinata’s face didn’t change. “I’m not afraid of you.”
“You must not know me very well then.” Sasuke plucked down a mulberry and held it out to her.
Sasuke ended up back at heir ranch more after that. Each time Hinata reluctantly agreed to whatever asinine thing he proposed. Walks. Berry picking. Looking at flowers. It was all incredibly pathetic.
Mundane. Abhorrent.
None the less. Sasuke found that Hinata made nauseatingly redundant tasks somewhat enjoyable.
She would tell him all about the preserves she was going to make whenever they picked fruit. Once she spent an entire evening telling him about her mothers love for flower pressing and the next day he had brought her to the field.
She was weird.
Sasuke had never seen someone dress like she did in the weather. Never seen a family be so incredibly over bearing. Never had a girl adamantly warm him off of spending time with her and then act so happy to see him.
“You really shouldn’t waste your time on me.” She pressed as Sasuke lifted her onto his horse.
“Yeah, yeah Hyūga.” He swung himself up right behind her, feeling her back against his chest. “What are we doing today.”
“We need ribbon. For the jars.” She smiled.
“Ribbon for the jars.” He muttered, smirking.
Going into town with THE Hinata Hyūga always garnered him strange looks. Or maybe they were looks for her? A delicate, beautiful woman, riding in with the scum of the earth.
It wasn’t until they were in the shop that Sasuke realized what those looks were actually for.
Hinata was looking through spools of ribbon, Sasuke standing a few feet back, leaning against a wall, watching her. A woman with a couple children following behind like ducklings, was giving Hinata a strange look.
Hinata plucked up two different spools, and turned to him. “Sasuke, which do you th-“

[ Kalon || @sasuhina-renaissance-week ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Healing Waters and Scorching Flames ] [ A beauty that is more than skin deep - beautiful, as an outward sign of inward good, noble, honorable character. ]
If you’d have told him where he’d stand today only a handful of years ago, Sasuke would have laughed...and then scorched your skin for such an insult. Him? A prince of the Fire Nation? In love with a measly waterbender? Please. It’s not only a remark against his heritage of pureblood firebenders, but a personal one as well. As if he’d ever let one of those weak, water-blooded fools anywhere near him unless on their knees, pledging allegiance to the new empire.
...but much can change in such a short amount of time.
His mission had been to capture the Avatar: one he’d accepted gladly for glory in his father’s eyes. Second born behind a sick and frail elder brother, he thought that enough favor from their father would have usurped Itachi’s birthright and granted him the title of Fire Lord. He’d not always been so lustful for power...but time had seen him torn between worry for his brother’s health...and ridicule that a weak man would mean a weak nation. Better he to lead.
But in the end, he’d abandoned that wish for power, and instead helped the Avatar himself master firebending, and overtake Fugaku to bring the war to a close at last. It hadn’t been an easy path - they’d clashed more than once, as well as the rest of his little entourage. The temperamental earthbender, Sakura; a nonbender from the south pole, Kiba, and his polar bear dog; and the little waterbender, Hinata.
The last had been of little consequence at first. Benders were so rare in the south after their raids, she had no one to teach her. But every time they met, she got a little stronger - a little surer. And eventually, Sasuke could no longer ignore her strength - both in bending, and in spirit.
The war’s closing meant slowly beginning to amend the damage done. While Itachi tends to the Fire Nation, Sasuke remains with his new band: touring the lands he helped conquer under his own’s banner.
Things are...stable now. But far from as they were before Madara’s conquest began. Sasuke has every intention of amending what his family has done. And he’s glad he doesn’t have to do so alone.
For the moment, they’re back in his homeland. Naruto has brought leaders from the other nations to address Itachi and begin putting new laws and sanctions into place to assure this never happens again. As always, Sakura remains at his side as an anchor for his...often-lofty ideas. Kiba, ranking in his nation’s navy now, is part of the negotiations and ensuring Fire Nation military downsizing.
And Hinata is among her land’s council as steps toward peace continue.
Sasuke, still a prince to his brother’s title of Fire Lord, mostly lingers in corners. Itachi at times seeks his advice, but Sasuke doesn’t yet trust himself near positions of power. Not after what he nearly did for it. What he nearly sacrificed.
Most don’t seem to notice, too involved in their new roles. But one spares the time to ensure he’s not left alone too long.
It’s evening, the capital dusky as negotiations carry on into the later hours. Elbows leaned against a balcony railing, he turns at the sound of the door behind him, expecting a summons from Itachi.
Instead, he sees Hinata.
Dark brows lift slightly in surprise. “...have they finished for the night?”
“No...but it’s a topic I’m not part of.” She moves herself abreast him, hands daintily mimicking his arms.
Sasuke finds himself shying from her slightly. “...looking for fresh air?”
“Mm...and some less argumentative company.” She gives him a glance, a slightly glint of humor in her gaze. “I know this is all important, but...sometimes I just need a little time away from it all. And most of the talk from my nation comes from those older than me, anyway. I’m really only here because I traveled with the Avatar…”
“It gives you good insight.”
“I suppose...but part of me wishes I wasn’t so sought-after. I’ve not had a quiet day since then, and it’s been...what, five years now? I’m just...tired.”
He considers her for a moment. There’s none of the posture he saw when they first met. No longer is she timid, unsure, or avoidant. She stands with a kind of regality even now, though he’s sure she doesn’t intend it. It’s simply...natural. Her gaze is a thousand miles away, staring out over the city and not noticing his staring.
...it’s then it really hits him how beautiful she is. And not just on the surface. Her strength, so hard-won after her struggles. Her patience at all she’s faced. Her grace inherited from the flow of her element.
The pit of his stomach drops as he realizes...he’s grown quite fond of her over the years. Naruto is a good companion - his liveliness and positivity balance out his own brooding and pessimism. Sakura doesn’t mince her words - he can always expect what he needs to hear from her. Kiba...well, the nonbender is obnoxious, but loyal - he’s taught the prince a lot.
But Hinata…
At first, like the others, she didn’t trust him. Perhaps more so - she’d been quite smitten with Naruto back then, and as the boy’s primary threat, she’d reeled on him with a tenacity he’d not expected. But in the end...they had far more similarities than differences. Though driven, Sasuke has never been brash. The other three are far more outspoken than he.
Not Hinata.
At the base of their natures is a similar quietude. Though he’s been arrogant, and at times scorching like his element, what’s been left in the wake of his new path is...different. His temper has cooled. No longer does he seek attention, or recognition, or power. He merely wishes to make his amends, quietly, without fuss or flare. After so long of feeling torn, and angry, and looked down upon, he wants nothing more than to find peace. For himself, and the world he owes.
...she’s been good company in that regard.
Water can be violent. It can drown what angers it. And true, Hinata has a fierceness to her, but only when necessary. Otherwise, she’s been a quiet pool to calm the rest of her companions. The voice of reason and caution, but just as strong when there are no other options.
He wishes he could be half the person she is. He wishes for her patience, her resilience, her level head and her steadfastness.
She knows who she is. What she wants. Even if part of it has fallen through, she adapts with that same grace, head held high. She’s grown into a woman of beauty, inside and out.
“...Sasuke…?”
A blink. “...yes?”
Her head tilts, looking to him in concern. “...are you feeling well? You were a bit...vacant for a moment.”
Sasuke glances around - how long was he…? “...I was just lost in thought.”
She softens, but only just, in understanding. “...there’s been much to think about lately,” she agrees quietly. “Who knows how long we’ll be here...these talks have potential to last weeks.”
“...I’ll not mind them so long as it means you’ll be here.”
Her gaze widens slightly, and he realizes he’s said too much.
“...you balance out that blond buffoon,” Sasuke attempts to amend, tone rushed in an obvious excuse. “This will all be tedious enough without his volume and...enthusiasm.”
At that, Hinata can’t help a laugh into her sleeve. The sound brings him a small flutter of contentment. “...well, I’ll do my best. It’s good he has the energy, though. Otherwise I fear we’d all be asleep in our seats!”
His lips twitch. “...fair enough.
Silence falls between them, but it’s neither unwanted nor uncomfortable: amiable, and a pleasant change of pace. Only once some time passes does she murmur, “...I should let you retire for the night. And I’d best do the same - I could be called back for anything at any time.”
Sasuke swallows back a tinge of disappointment. “True...Naruto can only keep you awake through so much.”
She smiles. “...I’ll see you tomorrow, Sasuke.”
“Until then...Hinata.” Watching her go, he only turns back once the door shuts behind her with a soft clack.
Her absence is deafening.
Still leaned along the balcony railing, Sasuke heaves a sigh.
“...what are you getting yourself into, you fool…?”
This feels a little off, but I haven’t written this verse in quite some time ^^; Apologies if I’m a little rusty lol      I’ve had this verse for a while, though it normally only has one set pairing. But what’s an AU unless you have like ten branching AUs from it? So in this one, we’ve got SasuHina, taking place a few years after what would be the ending of AtLA.      But, I won’t ramble too much - I’ll probably do AUs for all of my entries for this lil ship week (because honestly they’re so much more fun for me to write than canon verses lol), so keep an eye out for them! Some are crossovers, but some are also based on my original novel work. We’ll see what each prompt best fits as the week goes on!      Happy shipping, fellow SasuHina lovers :3 See y’all tomorrow!

                                                   @sasuhina-renaissance-week                                                             [ 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 𝕩 ]
Another free day, another aesthetic! This one based on another original verse of mine with monsters and witches :3 Hinata is a witch, and Sasuke a vampire...because that’s not a totally overdone cliché lol      Anyway, lemme just say I’ve enjoyed this event so much! I hope everyone enjoyed my contributions both here and on @kusunogatari - I’ve loved getting to write and create for this awesome ship and community n_n
