My latest mittens. I'm super pleased with these and will be making like nine more pairs in different colours. They're based on a pair pictured but not charted in Anne Bårdsgård's book on Selbu Mittens.

Make ribbing. Follow chart. Make thumb' #which is fine tbh that's really all you need but it IS funny

I forgot to post my finished gloves! Selbu style mittens I cobbled together myself with leftover patons kroy socks yarn :-) These are made in linen and black colorways because I couldn't find white when I bought the yarn.

Hard to photograph but I managed to continue the palm pattern into the back of the thumb >:-) muahahaah.

Definitely feel like I've leveled up as a knitter because the combination of a knit gusset AND like 10 fucking stitches casted on over the loop (and then decreasing half of those later), one fucked up practice mitten I had to undo, combining these motifs in a way that fit my glove base (which I also had to change), plus figuring out how to chart all of it including 3 drafts. The pattern's under the cut but I've never made one before so I apologize if they don't made sense.

The first pattern is blurry because it's tiny in ms paint. Zoom in or open it there and turn on the grid. I'm like 90% certain that grey part in the middle where you decrease some of the stitches is supposed to go up to the top and there's Maybe a row missing Somewhere where the ribbing comes before a CC line but I can't fucking tell right now lmaoo. Spooky Selbu Mittens

These color work mittens turned out beautifully but too small. The mistake was my own. I’d love to reknit this pattern someday. I used Knit Picks Palette yarn for this project.

it may be september but given my knitting behaviour i think i need to start casting on gift knits. now. so i’m going to talk about them here for some semb,since of accountability:

mom + dad: oslo (pk) or ribbed hat (purl soho), matchy matchy

mom: ribbed socks

dad: wys vanilla socks

grandma: selbu mittens

i’m sure this list will grow and change as i work through it though. excited to knit gifts, i usually knit for myself so this’ll be a nice change!

Successfully got offline today instead of just scrolling through Tumblr all day. I wasn't really as productive as I planned, but I still had fun and some things can wait :-)

#me #text #meme #i made you a clean house but i hyperfixated it #(knitting project) #i used art priject to he general but im planning selbu mittens! :-) #i finally figured out i could just take an ms paint doc with the exact pixel length and width of the portion of knitting i need #and edit THAT instead of trying to use the full tool on a tortured grid i made online and screecapped #which is significantly easier now #plus i realized i dont *need* to have the two motifs plus the side panels be *exactly* the specific st counts they are #plus with two spots just for space #that was just the rule in the pattern im stealing. which im really not bc im just using the st counr and dimensions since i know #the gloves fit or at least the fingerless gloves do. theyll fit as mittens i think #theyre not really meant to be strethed like gloves #i think. #i actually havent worn mittens in a while #i did steal the knitting project tho #underwing mitts are very cool and mostlt easy to figure out from ravelry images and project notes that list stitch counts and such #i did fuck up the thumbs but they were my first so its gucci #oh i gotta get some yarn sometime and find a glove pattern that works #i dont think i can use this one for it circumference wise #hm #we'll see

This fall has been... Yeah... Sucking all the energy out of me. I'm tired of the darkness and the grey outside. I'm ready for advent to come! So I jumpstarted the holiday month with a new cast on. I need something to refuel my energy and inspiration! It's gonna be a Christmas/winter slipover/vest. I'm using #slipoverlinne by Anna Bauer as a base and the borders are taken from her books as well as Selbu Patterns (Anne Bårdsgård). Plus my own patterns of course. Cuz I really wanted a cute little bird there, but as per usual I'm very particular with how it should look. So pen and paper out on the table it is! I'm in absolute love with how it's turning out. And the colors! This green is magical. The yarn is Rauma Finull and Järbo 2tr. (bought at the best LYS @garnhyllan ) Each year, around this time, when it's the season for hats and mittens and wool shirts I pick this type of yarn out of my stash. And each year I get equally surprised at how wonderful it is to knit with. Like yeah, I know it is! But it's like I forget just how much I love it after a summer of flax and cotton and combed sock yarns. So advent can come now. Knitting is bringing me joy though. I actually really enjoy it. I'm currently trying to knit some selbu mittens and it's very exciting to me... making something cute I can wear... if it turns out half decent I can make another pair to give away :) it's a nice way to keep my hands and my head occupied.

International women's day shout-out to Marit Gulsethbrua Emstad.

At just age 16 she popularized the selbu rose(yes, that 8 point snowflake design is actually a flower) design, and turned her little norwegian home into a popular tourist destination. And it all started with 3 pairs of mittens, 164 years ago.(mitten for reference. Chart is one of her patterns from later in life.)
