Jikook in Japan November 2023

What we have so far.

First thing first, I want to thank all of you for your good wishes in the comments to my last post. I did miss you guys, and I'm hopefully on the mend, if not fully there yet.

So, JM and JK in Japan. Do we all see just how big that is? We know just how important their trip was in 2018, they told us all about it ever since. And now we have them travelling to Japan again, one last trip before enlistment. Together. They spend time in Tokyo (we know cause they flew into Tokyo - great detective work going on here - and the pics that JM posted on his IG - and I'll get to that soon too). But they are also travelled to Sapporo, where they are right now. Sapporo, where this happened back in 2016, just to remind you all.

Anyways, let's go back a sec to their departure. Cause why not, really?

As they walked into the terminal JM signalling JK to come in closer to him.

And after going through the departure doors while waiting for their security check.

Same same...

JM came to us last night posting on IG with two "my boyfriend too my photo" pics.

Are they doing a walk down memory lane? Is JM sending us down memory lane? I mean, let's get real here. They know. They see it all. They knew about the threats and hate preceding their trip, they know about Jikookers talking up this trip, Jikookers love of GCFT. And in saying that, was his choice of pics posted just random or purposeful? My bet is on the latter. Everything JM does is thought out. That is, until he has JK standing right in front of him. That's when he loses control, lol. And that, my friends, is why JM is unwilling (and probably rightfully so, as hard as this is for me to admit) to go live with JK. I kind of think that JK realised the same of late, after that live tiddy grab, lol.

JM posted at 11:44 pm or 23:44 pm. And here are the numbers.

I'm done with "it's a coincidence", cause it is not. It wasn't when JK started lives at 11:08. It wasn't when JK posted his letter to Army at 6:13. And it's not now either. At this point that's what I believe. Take it or leave it.

And just incase those that saw them leaving for Japan and are still struggling to come to terms that perhaps the two are literally travelling together, we had someone that saw them together in said restaurant eating together, sitting at a table for 2 (and not for the lack of bigger tables available at the restaurant).

We also saw the two leaving for Sapporo. Of course, again, said very 'nice' - NOT - people having a field day with them not caught in one frame on their way out of Tokyo.

And I guess just for these 'nice' people's benefit (not really, but am I a bad petty person for being glad they got this right in their faces??) we had the two arriving in Sapporo TOGETHER.

Also looks familiar.

And did I mention the matchy matchy grey coloured sweatshirts?

At this point nothing surprises me anymore.

So Sapporo. A winter paradise. A city known for it's beer and breweries. The city that recognized same sex marriages. A known couples destination.

There have been sightings. And they are mostly keeping the information to themselves at the moment, seeing that the two are still in Japan. But, point being the two aren't hiding it. They are out in the open, together, enjoying themselves.

I know that they are having the time of their lives.

I know they are creating cherished memories for years to come.

I know that they are and will be happy!!!

I know that.

Top two pics are me as a freshman in high school in 2011, I used to listen to emo music and pretend i liked it because my best friend did. Id go over to his house and we would google “hot emo boys” and i would wrestle with internalized lesbophobia and compulsory heteronormativity and wonder why i only found boys attractive if they were gay or in touch with femininity in some part of their expression. He would verbally express gender envy and then deny that he was a guy. We figured it out eventually. One day we found dan and phil and spent hours watching their videos. I just assumed they were a gay couple. I didnt subscribe because i didnt have a youtube account of my own, but the two emo boys from youtube who made silly random videos stuck with me.

Over the years, they’ve popped in and out of my peripheral, sometimes occupying a ridiculously large portion of my waking thought, and sometimes fading into the background like two house parrots that you learn to tune out but still occasionally say something so strange and offputting that you have to go “what the fuck did you just say??”

They were there for me in 2016 when i was too anxious to fall asleep and would put on dan’s liveshows, when i was in my final year of college and freaking out about the future, when i was having a menty b or when i was just fucking bored out of my mind. Me and @freckliedan would have found each other in any world, but im glad we had these idiots to bond over in this one. 💕 ive made friends, traveled to new places, and learned things about myself in my time on phannie tumblr and being a proud phannie. I know its cringe and a joke but like dan and phil and this silly little fandom have legit have raised me into the hot sexy lesbian twenty something i am today. Wouldn’t trade this fucked up little community for anything tbh 💕💕

Teatro la Fenice's new production of Mefistofele (with Alex Esposito in the title role) opens tonight so I've been seeing a lot of preview pics on the bird site, including this one and a video of the chorus from the end of this scene (which does look cool despite the schlubby costumes on the two leads, why are they putting Alex Esposito in sweatpants, come on, they put him in fishnets for Gounod!). ANYWAY it got me thinking about the various props I've seen used for the globe in "Ecco il mondo." For the uninitiated: this scene is set at Walpurgisnacht, the witches' sabbath and the primary event of the infernal social calendar. At one point the chorus presents their sexy demon overlord with a globe, symbolizing his mastery over the world and prompting Mefistofele's aria about the folly of humanity, at the end of which he smashes it. (The original libretto mentions a glass globe, and they did have sugar glass in the 1870s so I think that's probably what it would have been.)

Anyway, if you look at the video from later in the scene you can see that disco ball earth looks substantially redder and more burnt out by the end of the scene, a lighting effect which I am guessing takes place at the end of the aria. Which is pretty cool! I rather like that! Not as much as something that can go boom, but still pretty neat.

Other prop choices I've seen, roughly in order of how much I liked them:

Nothing (Festspielhaus Baden-Baden 2016, ft. Erwin Schrott). Come on. Why would you do it this way. I love this production quite a lot (and I actually otherwise really liked their Walpurgisnacht staging) but sometimes it makes questionable choices and this was one of them. Projecting equations all over the giant stage skull does not count. LET MEPH SMASH THINGS.

Giant blue lighted globe (I forget what production this was, but I saw this scene on youtube and couldn't find it when I looked just now). Pretty attractive visually, and stood out amid an otherwise red-dominated scene. Also the closest on this list to authorial intent (and, let's be real, Boito would certainly have used a lighted globe if it were possible to do safely at the time). However, you lose a lot of the impact if your singer has to carefully drop the prop globe into a trapdoor. This is kind of a common theme in this post and a principle by which I would abide: if you can't break it, use something else.

Cow heart (Bayerische Staatsoper 2015, ft. Rene Pape). Well, it's certainly creatively gross! I'll give it points for that. It was definitely not the worst idea this production had in re: Walpurgisnacht. But there are also a few problems: one is the destructibility issue outlined in the last entry. If you do something gross like that it's not gonna be as effective if it doesn't get to go splat, which obviously the prop cannot do. Another is that it doesn't really go with the symbolism of the aria (why is the world a cow heart, specifically?). A third is that the scene had already placed a bunch of writhing pregnant women downstage which made me worry that things were going to go a LOT darker than they actually did. I neither need nor want to see sacrificial baby yeeting in Mefistofele, but if your production is generally committed to maximum squalor, you probably shouldn't do anything that would make the audience imagine it and consequently doubt that commitment.

Paper globe (Teatro dell'Opera di Roma 2023, ft. John Relyea). A solid choice! He spikes it into an oil drum fire pit and and it makes a nicely scary-looking flame for an instant. It would have looked cooler if it were bigger, but it was definitely visually interesting (unlike most of the scene, alas; Relyea was typically fantastic but the director did not give him much to work with in this sequence beyond dressing him like Mussolini) and appropriately destructive.

Latex balloon (San Francisco Opera 1989, ft. Samuel Ramey). This one sometimes draws sniffs from opera purists for being cheap and tacky, but honestly that's entirely on-theme: behold the world! It's a piece of crap! This staging is iconic for a reason (it's on the cover of the dvd) and the simple balloon is satisfyingly destructible (Ramey dramatically stabs it with a very large pin), easy to bat around before destroying it, and inexpensive to replace. Full marks. Of course, this is a famous enough production that any other one that goes that route will probably be seen to be alluding to it.

Because I am obsessed with this opera and have an unattainable fantasy of directing it I have a lot of thoughts about all kinds of staging details, and so I would definitely return to the "inflatable earth" well, but distinguish it by getting Faust into the act: the second and third verse of the aria, after all, are about how dumb and generally shitty humans are. (And I think it's important for stagings of this sequence not to lose sight of him, which sometimes happens.) I'm picturing Meph dragging Faust up "onstage" and handing the globe off to him, as a representative of said dumb shitty humans (a lot of teasing interspersed with aggressive flirting going on here ofc). At the climactic "Ecco il mondo!" he flicks a finger in Faust's direction, and the globe explodes in his hands, to the great delight of the chorus. It's different, and it's a nice moment for making your singers cooperate in selling it (Faust, of course, has the more difficult job here since he'd have to play startled at a stage effect he is largely responsible for carrying off). My throughline for Mefistofele is that it's fundamentally a toxic, destructive love story that's still somehow weirdly ennobling for the participants on some level, and the Walpurgisnacht scene is a pivotal moment in that arc (it's where Meph's switch flips from "I want to win my wager" to "I want Faust") so that staging choice would be a another little thing that makes that relationship central.

Don’t forget to mention the Harry StylesTM effect like after their CO H would be able to wear Louis’ brand (and I’m sure he’d wear it nonstop!) and that will cause massive sales because huge amount of fans want to wear what H wears especially when it’s affordable. Fashion magazines will write about them because they will coordinate their outfits and set trends in (male) fashion. Oooor imagine their super sexy gay photoshoot and cover for the V magazine as “1st gay couple cover in V’s history”

And as much as I hate celebrities dropping H’s name in interviews for clout (ok, except Troye because his story with meeting H first time and going straight to the bathroom was just what us girlie girls do when out and about and it was exactly a story I would expect from gay man talking about meeting another gay man haha) we will get stories about them and that would also be super cute.

I just hope I will live to that day when they will come out and we will witness it all.

Here are some asks about Harry and Louis' prospects as a power couple when they come out and the consequences of coming out for their careers. More under the cut.

If Harry and Louis came out together then Louis would benefit from Harry's fame.

So this is what it's all about, Louis using Harry for fame. That's why larries want Louis associated with Harry, because without Harry, Louis is a flop. At least y'all know the truth.

I am sceptical about Harry having a bigger and better career after coming out as gay because it's never happened like that for a male popstar with mainly female fans. Not once.

I think you forget that Harry has fans in all territories and outside northern Europe the world is highly homophobic. I include the US in this. Even the UK has just banned medical transitions for under 25s.

Harry's thirst fandom is vast. They can thirst if he is straight or bi but not if he's gay.

I think being associated with Louis would actually damage Harry's career and make him seem like a joke. Louis isn't taken seriously by anyone except we larries unfortunately and that won't change if he suddenly comes out as gay and with Harry. Harry knows this and he is holding off on coming out until his career is over. That could be when he is in his 70s the way it's going.

Fame and notoriety aren't linked to chart success///

But Louis isn't famous anymore. The last time the UK and US press followed his every move was in 2016 with all the bg nonsense. He never gets papped and only gets articles when he mentions Harry's name. His entire UK tours went unreported on both times, no reviews or pics of Louis. It took something disastrous like the Red Rocks hailstorm for his US tour to get a mention. He's famous by proxy - 1d, Harry. I wish people knew his name in the 2020s but they just don't.

I'm going to answer you all together since this is a topic we've covered before.

Harry and Louis are a team. They make decisions together, share a home and share their wealth and their sorrows. Harry's success is shared with Louis and vice versa. Harry wouldn't be where he is right now without Louis and vice versa. They both have their roles to play.

A coming out would benefit both of them. They are something more than the two individuals put together when they're together. The brand deals, the book deals, the film that's going to be made about them and the magazine covers etc. will benefit the both of them. A magazine cover with the both of them on will sell better than a magazine cover with only Harry on.

Like i've said before, before they both come out we need to have a seeding period so people can get used to the idea and get onboard and see how cute and in love they are. If done right they won't lose many fans, but they'll gain a lot. Harry's fans have grown up with him. They're not 8 years old anymore. They won't ditch him and stop buying his albums and go to his tour if he comes out and reveals his relationship with Louis. Harries have heard about larry. Harries have seen Harry on stage in a glittery jumpsuit singing Medicine, waving pride flags and helping fans come out of the closet. He's played a gay closeted man on film. If they're homophobic they would have ditched him a long time ago. They can continue to project onto him even if he's gay. I think we need to also count the new fans he'll get from the lgbtqai+ community and from the attention they'll get from the conspiracy being revealed as true. I think they'll gain more fans than they'll lose. Who wouldn't want to read about the lovestory of Larry Stylinson written from they own pow by themselves. It's dramatic and juicy. A secret love with good guys fighting the bad. The ups and downs. Deaths and weddings. Even antis would buy the book and watch the film and see the documentary.

When it comes to Louis he needs image rehab and a bit more good media exposure. He needs to show he's not homophobic, that he's actually friends with Harry and support him and he needs to change his laddy and macho image and act more himself. I think ending bg will help immensely in creating a better image. He'll gain so much sympathy from the gp. People already have sympathy for him bc of his mom and sister. They'll be thrilled that he's found happiness after all that misfortune. Losing a mother, sister, and now his kid isn't his after all?

To raise his profile a bit, even though he's already well known, they can do what they do to Harry's stunt girls. If he's seen hanging out with H we'll get "Who is Louis Tomlinson" articles. We'll get pap pictures, and Louis being invited to events with H etc. So when they do come out, people will know the both of them. People will love both of them and people will want the best for them. It's going to be more than okay. It will be fabulous.

top left pic: christmas 2016 (198 pounds—quite thin in retrospect, and i kept looking at my belly and pushing it out to make it look fatter, given i had wanted to be big since i was little) top right pic: halloween 2020 (225/210 pounds—more or less maintained my weight for four years, even through quarantine; if anything i lost weight during the height of covid; “more or less” because i bounced around 200 and 220 a lot, and the incident™️ made me lose a few) bottom left pic: thanksgiving 2021 (252 pounds—stepfather passed in april and all of a sudden, i noticed there was a lot of food in the house and he wasn’t around to give me hell for it, either) bottom right pic: thanksgiving 2022 (267 pounds—not my dream weight, 280+ pounds, but i wish i weighed this much 6 years ago. hell, i wish i weighed this much 10 years ago at the peak of my anorexia).

you know what amazes me is the fact i’ve kept my hourglass figure all this time. almost 70 pounds in 6 years, and you would think that i would be morbidly obese with a fat figure at over 250

but you’d be wrong.

23 year old me wanted a round belly while still maintaining the curves, 5 year old me just wanted to be 250 pounds, and 19 year old me wanted to feel sexy and sensual.

and guess what.

here’s to making 5 year old me’s daydreams—from all the times elizabeth and i tucked pillows under my shirts to pretend we had potbellies, to all the times i fantasized about eating more immediately after dinner, to all the times i’d sneak sweets when no one was looking and it’d give me the butterflies every time, to… the times i wanted to wear my shirt in a way to show off my belly to the world—a reality in 2023 (yes, i am suggesting giving the finger to the whole cliché of losing weight as a new year’s resolution and gaining more weight instead) 😋🍐🥧☕️
