style analysis - the virgin suicides !!

“It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, but only that we had loved them, and that they hadn't heard us calling”

the virgin suicides is a 1993 novel written by author Jeffrey Eugenides, the novel was adapted into a 1999 film by Sofia Coppola.

the film follows the lives of five sisters during the mid 70’s, from the perspective of a group of adolescent boys in the neighbourhood who obsess over them, the girls are their idea of femininity, their fantasy of young ‘perfect’ girls.

Oh, virgin suicides. babydoll dresses, virgin mary cards, pink lipstick, lollipops, dusky florals, bell sleeves, pastels, knee socks, lace, cardigans, innocence.

soaked in warm tones and femininity, soft and delicate. Laying around in grass fields and listening to records in their teen dream room. they’re everything a boy wants.

if you’ve ever watched the movie you know the aesthetic in it, I don’t even think I need to say anything. it’s basically the og coquette.

“Their outfits demonstrate the extreme poles of dress that defined the choice of teenage fashion in the 70s: demureness versus skimpiness, or the fabric of innocence against emerging sexuality”.

About their style:

the girls live in a religious catholic household. their parents were strict enough already, after the youngest sister Cecilia attempt suicide, their parents become way over-protective.

that’s why their outfits are always long and puffy, even on school they wear long skirts that goes pass their knees. We never actually see them in something “scandals”. Even when we see Lux with a bikini, you still assume she’s a “good girl”.

to prom they all wear long white floral dresses that goes completely down to their feet. it’s looks honestly like a weeding dress. And I think that’s what the costume designer tried to show.

We can also see that with the color palette. we see them wear pastel colors, and most of the time they wear white. which supposed to show their “innocence”, and them being virgins.

Modern adaptation:

I honestly don’t think you need to change a lot in this style for it to be “okay” in 2021. It’s pretty timeless and I love it for it.

I do think you can make it less strict and pale. More interesting. for example you can add some jewelry, If you want to fit the “theme”, you can even wear a cross necklace. I think it adds a bit flavor.

also, you can show some skin, it’s okay. I think it’s amazing that today we can wear a lot more then we used to, I also think if they lived today, they would def keep this style but and make it more fun (especially lux). You can make the dresses a bit shorter, and you can wear a low cut top and still rock this look, I promise.

I honestly love the virgins suicides with my entire heart. Such a good novel, such a good movie. I know a lot about it so if have any questions feel free to ask.

Being friends with Gojo🦋🦋

A/n: ok last friend post with everyone’s fav teacher😌

This man is a TEASE!!! I just know if you breathe a little funny he will clown on you so hard

The two of you just bag on each other so much, you will get frustrated and straight bark at him to shut up while he continues to poke fun at you.

He doesn’t take any of ur comments seriously 😌 he doesn’t mind letting you have the last word but it’s funny seeing how long your banters will last

✨FaceTime!!✨

He likes to get on ur nerves so u already know he loves debating with you

This man will start talking about topics he knows!!! will start a debate with you, like he will just randomly call to debate on something so dumb and trivial saying “Chocolate and cheese go well together don’t you think?”

“Yeah...” you weren’t even listening until the comment starts to digest and you freeze. “Wait what...? Are you crazy?”

*cue an hour long argument as to you explaining why chocolate tastes better with anything else and Gojo insisting otherwise*

(Everytime you talk he turns the volume all down until he sees you stopped talking, then he will turn it up just to insert his opinions again and hear you get even more frustrated)

This lasts until you’re like “You know what...?” *face time ended*

He calls like two hundred times after, and once you finally pickup all he only says, “I won.” Before hanging up😐.

he would def call you at two am only to show you a cool bug outside his window, ESPECIALLY if you hate bugs

(However if you got a spider in your room you can count on him to grab it for you😌 he might chase you around with its nasty carcass but he will exterminate that bug!)

He would def call you in the middle of a mission to show off 😭 I just know Megumi is pissed off.

This man will really set up the phone so you can see the fight, but after like three seconds the phone will drop and have a “poor connection!” Warning before hanging up😭

Right after he will call you all giddy, “Did you see how good I am?”

“Yeah you’re good at this Gojo.” You didn’t see it but you would rather act like you did so he’s happy.

You guys could be on the same mission and he would FaceTime you while you’re in the middle of a fight

You would pick up thinking there was an emergency and he needed you to meet him somewhere, “Gojo? What’s wrong, is everything okay?”

He would grin before flipping the camera to all the curses he took out, “I bet you can’t beat me—“

*FaceTime ended*

Movies!!!💿💿

You find it kinda sweet that Gojo likes to watch movies with his students!

Gojo would def put something scary on so he can see you all squirm and jump around, your reactions are more entertaining than the movie

Whenever you try to relax he will sneak behind you and grab your shoulders, “boo!”

Of course you would jump a hundred feet in the air, cursing him out for scaring you as he laughs.

Nobora would call him so immature as she talks about how she can’t wait to have you as a teacher.

“It’ll be so fun! I’m sure you’re a great teacher!” Itadori perked up.

Nobora nodded, “Mhm, I can’t wait to go on missions with you! She seems so mature doesn’t she?”

Megumi nodded while they all hyped you up.

If your nose wasn’t in the air already it sure was now, “Oh please...you think so?” Your ego is at it peak rn😌😌 these kids are so precious

Gojo would pout as the kids gave you all those sweet praises, and with your confidence boosted you turned to Gojo with a wide grin, “I win.”

Whenever it’s just you two watching a movie, he will take up as much space as he can on the couch before you sit, then pat his lap and be like “You can sit here y/n!”

“Definitely not.” You sat on the floor, you would die before sitting anywhere near that mans lap 😐.....😏.....or would you.....

Once he stops being a jerk he will make space for you, but he is def the kinda guy to rest his arm behind you, idk hot guy things 😌

If you happen to nap on his shoulder expect him to draw on your face or tickle your nose until you sneeze.

Self care 💅🏽✨

Nobora brought a bunch of her beauty masks for Itadori and Megumi and would invite you “You should really take a break!”

Before you can respond Gojo replies, “You’re too kind Nobora!” Gojo won’t even be invited, he just hears you’re doing something and wants to tag along.

(He enjoys seeing you frown, He doesn’t verbally express that he enjoys your company, he does it through teasing you)

I know this man has the clearest most well taken care of face ever I just know it. You guys are all doing your own thing, Nobora painting her toes, Itadori delicately placing cucumbers on Megumi’s scrunched up eyes, and you inspecting Gojo’s face.

“Your pores are so small!” You turn his head in your hands, “and no black heads, how is this possible?”

He shrugs as you continue to talk, he doesn’t care about what you put on his face, he just likes having his face held (especially by someone he trusts!!)

He loves being held and touched and scratched so like 😭 while you are brushing his hair back with your hand and putting little clips in? He is in heaven!!!

While you apply the mask, man’s eyes are falling shut cause this is like a face massage!!

He will lean his head into your hand and flutter his eyes open “I’m really pretty.”

I mean,,,, he is right,,,,,You roll your eyes, “Go back to being quiet.”

Would get his nails painted, like a different pastel color with cute little stickers for each finger so he can kill curses with pretty fingers.

You really don’t understand how you two became friends. (You enjoy his fun energy but you would never admit that!!!)

Scary situations!!👻👻

if anything happens you can count on him to protect you!! He will be there for u no matter what!

Idk how but if you took a mission that’s a bit out of your league, give him a call and he will b there in half a second

He will show off so hard in front of you and leave you really shocked then be like “You good?”

“Yeah, you weren’t busy were you?”

“I’m not gonna be too busy for you.” He holds his hand out to help you up as you grin at how cheesy he is. He will def call a ride for you and ride in the back with you.

Will use jokes to make you feel better/ help you deal with whatever was bothering you.

Once you get out the car expect him to give you a hug, you don’t even gotta ask

Like a big long dramatic hug, and he’s so tall so he’s towering over you and it looks cute.

When you’re ready to let go and say, “okay... alright.... see you—“ he only squeezes you when you try to squirm away.

You roll your eyes before resting your head on his chest.

He’ll pat your head before when he’s done.

“Don’t die ok.” You grabbed his sleeve before he could walk away.

“That won’t happen, you don’t die either ok Y/n!” He smiled as you waved him away and went in your house.

He likes being ur friend 😌

kiyoka - hm!!! solid blue (like a nice ocean blue. around #0f4df7) with an orange accent nail. i defaulted to ring finger for accent nail but maybe middle finger she deserves it

kizuna - !!! pale pink, not like,, super pastel/heavy on the white, but not hot pink. would prolly have a transition to gold at the base of the nail if i can still do that.

ayame - hm!!!! very difficult. i think a dark red, or just french tips would be good for her?

kanata - just simple white!!! she deserves it. or maybe a fade from nail to nail like. thumb white, middle finger pale green, pinkie pale blue, with pointer/ring finger as transition shades

kakeru - hm again!!!! oooh maybe smthn matte that sounds good for him. i think a matte black would be nice, but if not, then like. an olive green

kinji - !!!! white nails with a gold accent nail. if not, then a sparkly dark blue- oh i have a silver nail polish maybe smthn like what i described with kizuna but with the dark blue and silver for him?

haruhiko - !!!!! pretty simple for him but. either a warm brown, or just a simple black.

satsuki - !!!! on one hand, blue nails, with white ring finger, and pink thumb, on the other, pink nails, with blue ring finger, and white thumb yes yes

mikako - hm hm...... black nails with purple ring finger on one hand, purple nails with black ring finger on the other. can u guys tell i do patterns like that often

yamato - !!!! i have a nice like. shiny plum sort of color? that sounds good for him.

akane - any sort of black really!!!! shiny? sparkly? matte? who knows!

utsuro - i have. a orange that looks matte but as long as it's wet/drying its all sparkly,, it's also a v dark shade of orange/burnt orange! that for him

tsurugi - he's falling victim to my primary nail tendency. alternating red + yellow + blue sporadically. i don't know if he will like it but i do know that it doesn't matter to me

rei - i feel shed be happiest with a red. just simple red. v valid of her it def gives me her dra vibes

teruya - black pinkie + thumb on both hands, the six fingers remaining all their own color, in rainbow order!

what is the color of your hairbrush? i have a tangle teezer which is hot and pastel pink

name a food you never eat? i too Hate olives so i stay away from them

are you typically too warm or too cold? i get hot pretty easily (sweaty gang where u at) but also i think i have bad circulation or smth bc my hands and feet are Always cold

what were you doing 45 minutes ago? i was on a zoom call with a couple of people from class bc we are giving a presentation in this afternoon’s seminar

what’s your favourite candy bar? ooooh i Love a twix, it’s so good

have you ever been to a professional sports game? yes! i’ve been to three shl games (did get to see latts live and in person in february, his team lost but it was still okay) and then a couple of pro-handball games. do national teams count as pro? bc i’ve seen a few games with the national handball teams too

what is the last thing you said out loud? i was singing control by kevin garrett so “ooooooh, you have control”

what is your favourite ice cream? the lemon cream one i had when me and my sister went to the fancy gelato place across town....... for more easily accessible ones i like vanilla and pistachio

what was the last thing you had to drink? i had my morning cup of afternoon tea with some milk in it

do you like your wallet? i have one of those wallet cases for my phone which is quite ugly but very functional, so that’s fine. i do own a wallet which is cute but i literally Never use it so idk

Magazines: Not much of a magazine person at all, except for like a casual read while waiting for an appointment. Foods: Huge fruits and veggie girl, but isn’t a vegetarian at all. She loves herself a huge greasy cheese burger from time to time and she isn’t ready to give that up anytime soon. Drinks: Energy drinks. She knows there are bad for you, is very aware. Coffee, especially espresso. Never says no to an alcoholic drink, vodka is her choice of preference. Animals: Rottweilers. When she gets a pet it’s going to be a Rotty Sports: Use to play basketball back in high school and Uni. She’ll still follow basketball on tv too and she does like watching football as well. They all always worry for Lily seeing as she can be a hot mess and her personality is very feisty, but Lily just finds that all hilarious. mass effect: andromeda 30 day countdown

(because 6 days is totally enough time to do 30 questions. i’m going to do a few at a time.)

30 Days: Will you play SisRyder or BroRyder first? Why? How does your Ryder define their gender?

I will be playing male Ryder first! I'm tempted to actually play the twins concurrently, but I know I'll become too engrossed in one's story and forget about the other. I'll give them both the equal attention they deserve!

Both of them are cis.

29 Days: What is your Ryder’s name? Why did you pick this name - is there a meaning or origin story behind it? Do they go by any nicknames? What would you name their sibling, father and mother if you were able to choose?

The Ryder I'll be playing first is named Isaac and his sister is named Isabel. There isn't really a story behind the names.

When things are tough and Isaac is overly stressed, he'll call isabel “Bells”. It's sort of a cue for her to watch out for him and his temper. Other than that, they don't really have nicknames.

28 Days: Are you going to use the default appearance or create a custom Ryder? If custom, describe your Ryder’s physical appearance (hair color, eye color, skin color, height, weight, facial features, any scars or tattoos, racial origin, etc). If you have art and/or a face-claim, feel free to add them here.

Custom. Both of my Ryder's are Asian!

Isaac is the taller of the two, 6"1' and boy oh boy does he never stop pointing out how short his sister is. He loves being tall. How's the weather up there, You ask? It's fucking pleasant thanks.

His hair is a mess. Its long, he’s been in need of a haircut for months, and it's thick, straight and completely unmanageable. It’s just long enough to get into his eyes and annoy him, so he’s constantly brushing it back and away from his face. It's naturally a dark black. His eyes are brown. He doesn't much like them.

He and his sister both have the constellation Scorpius tattooed on their inner left wrists, symbolic for them both being born under the Scorpio zodiac.

Isaac also has a series of solid black bands encircling his right forearm, just below his elbow. He also has a fading gradient bar tattoo on the back of his neck. It's solid black right beneath his hairline and fades out right between his shoulder blades. The boy is big on blackwork tattoos.

27 Days: Are you going to use the default appearance for Ryder’s sibling or customize them? Describe your ideas for their sibling’s and father’s physical appearance.

Def customized. Isaac and Isabel are very obviously twins, so I'll be trying my best to get them to look as alike as possible. Isabel and her brother have the same features of course, but her nose is a bit wider and her eyes a lighter brown. She has longer hair than Isaac, and she tends to keep it dyed in shades of pastels or browns rather than his natural black. Because of this her hair is actually pretty damaged and will frizz out if she doesn't do anything to it.

Isabel is less inclined towards tattoos than her brother, but she does have an interesting collections of piercings. She has her ears pierced 6 times each and a nose piercing.

Alec Ryder is a classically attractive man, with wiry brown hair and wide brown eyes. His nose is wide and upturned and he’s a bit too attached to his beard. I honestly don’t have many ideas about Papa Ryder, i’ll jus see were the CC leads me!
