Merle's characterization in the graphic novel is very good and I love how some of his dialogue is so obviously setting up his meeting with John

One very underrated line in TAZ is in one of the final episodes where the boys reunite and Magnus is like "so I beat a giant rhinoceros" and Taako is like "my boyfriend and I reunited" and Merle seems dejected and goes "I passed out on the side of the road in mud. Also I met God."
