Thinking today about how Crystal Kingdom lets us glimpse the Plane of Thought, which is very similar to the real world: a plane without magic, said to be the source of thought, emotion, and logic. Basically, a plane shaped purely by physics and possibly, in this case, by the thought & perception of reality (maybe leaning into the quantum physics thing of observed vs unobserved but idk enough about that to get into it)
And then we hear the Plane of Magic is opposite that, and it's the wellspring of all magic. What does that even look like? Magic unfiltered by physics? Pure, abstract chaos?
But both of those planes' energies are filtered through the Ethereal Plane into the Prime Material Plane. So it's a combination of those (along with all the other planes) that exists there.
In this series, wizards are pretty common. E.g. a lot of people learn magic through study, specifically. What's pretty cool to me is... well, the ability to learn magic means it inherently conforms to some system of logic & is understandable with human thought. Which means... it's the filtering into the Material Plane that makes magic become a learnable thing in the first place!
That's just really cool to me, and it's also making me think about like... does magic work right if crew ever goes to one of those two planes instead of the Material? Are they fine because they're from the Material Plane, or does it go terribly, horribly wrong?

Travis's ability to lean in to a bit (continuing to call the Director 'Lucretia') and Griffin's ability to roll with that for Secret Backstory (yes, they were best friends at Interplanar NASA) always impresses the shit out of me (breaks my fucking heart in 12 different ways)

I saw all of existence, all at once. I saw a dark storm, a living hunger eating it from within. But I saw a brilliant light heralded by seven birds, flying tirelessly from the storm. I saw seven birds.
