It's been 50 years since I posted in this tag but I had this semi-oldish sketch from the "Slay the Prince"/Swap AU idea and like- What if the swap AU version of the Damsel/Smitten was the most bishie ikeman looking mofo to match the Damsel's kawaii anime girl look.
Bonus:

He would have a dorito chin.

I'm thinking again about a Slay the Princess Swap AU. For me, I wonder if it makes sense if the Long Quiet / the Bird / (What would the Narrator title them as in this AU?) transforms physically in each path?
Sure, they are in the Princess's role in this AU. And changes appear through new perspectives and options with the Voices.
The Long Quiet is still different from her. Their changes are internal. They happen after they meet her and die in the 1st chapter, her perspective on them as well as their own observations shaping a new Voice. She already changes depending on the player character's thoughts on her before they ever see her.
When someting about their body transforms, it's usually because of something an aspect of the Princess does. She wills her power against the amnesiac Long Quiet.
What if the Long Quiet's incarnation in the SWAP AU was the same aspect at the beginning of each path? Probably the Hero.
Their reactions to the Princess's entering changes depending if they can gleam details about her intentions, of course. (Like hear her yelling or see her holding the dagger.)
But if she acts differently upstairs and they can't notice in the basement (whether or not she takes the dagger when she hides it), and she enters the same way as in other paths, they react the same way to her.
And if her appearances has already changed? That will draw their attention, both the Long Quiet and the Voice of the Hero's.
I still like the idea that the Long Quiet does transform in some second and third chapters. Mostly because it's a visual sign they have changed from the experience. I just don't have an idea what triggers it.
Mmhh. Maybe on some paths, they don't transform but they carry over remnants of the injuries the Princess gave them. That plus the transformed environment plus their different demeanor (new Voice) indicates the path when there's no transformation.
Actually, that could be effective cool storytelling:
They look similar or the same - compared to the princess who has definitely transformed with the start of the second chapter -, but the Long Quiet's behavior has shifted so drastically that they feel like a different person.
The Princess only gets the Voice of Hero again with specific dialogue options, which might be barred on any path given previous choices.

STP swap AUs. Thinking of them, and how they can use the voices to be well. Still voices but yk.
I'll just show an example:
The Damsel: the Princess is the knight now, the monster locked under the cabin talks in a princey tone. Some parts of him are rounded, but it's the voice. The monster's voice changed (before this, he was squawking like a bird and only nodding yes or no). Nothing to drastic about how he looks
It's the voice that changed. He's talking. But not in a tone you would think (or maybe you would)

I return from my slumber to post more STP Swap AU stuff! I love seeing what people do with my vague idea of an AU and you absolutely do not have to use my ideas, come up with your own things and show them to me!

So I've been looking at the "slay the monster" stuff and i think the stuff I've seen is neat i gotta ask. Has anyone thought about it where the goal ISN'T to slay the monster but to be a sacrificial maiden for the monster. A switching of places but not of roles.
I mainly ask this because i think it'd be very interesting to instead of the narrator painting the creature as something that deserves to be killed whose entire existence would be better off destroyed, it would be the narrator trying to show you how good it would be if you just let the monster devour you. You're a princess so obviously they wouldn't have sent you away if they COULD do something else. Look at how nice this cabin is, wouldn't it be lovely to rest here while doing a good thing. The monster while powerful and scary is gentle and will allow you to pass painlessly. Go on princess, step into the beast's maw and slip away into a deep slumber forever....
I do feel like the princess wouldn't be instigating the resets but the monster. I feel like it could play on the monster always wanting to desire something. The "cold" route (aka just doing what you're told with no hesitation) would be interesting. Imagine seeing a lady wordlessly step into your maw and allow herself to be devoured. While the stp cold route is vengeance of a killer i feel like it'd be the opposite. A curiosity the monster couldn't sate as it sat there after that odd event. They could feel time slowly pass now that they had an unanswerable question. Eventually becoming too much to bear so they die and it starts up again.
Anyways i mainly think it's interesting purely because the vibes of everything would be so different.

some more doodles and design concepts for my little slay the princess swap au
instead of your perception of the hero changing him, his perception of the princess is what changes him. her very presence is what changes him, even if it’s based on his perceptions
the narrator comes from a creator who was trapped in his life. so he created these two gods to kill that stillness, to destroy the mundanity, not realizing that doing this would destroy the joy of something different. if everything is constantly changing without a trace of stillness, there’s no time to appreciate it
anyways, as you can tell, the cold route is the one i have most ironed out. i’m tryna give em all tiny gems that change like the princess’s tiara:]

I've been thinking a lot about your Slay the Princess Swap AU. What misadventures do the Princess as the Spectre and the Gravedigger / the Voice of the Cold get into?
DING DING DING! SWAP AU BELOVED HOW I MISS YOU
Oh god thank you anon for asking this I will now proceed to gush about my swap au with the info I currently have.
Spectre (or Revenant as I call her in my head) cannot leave her own tomb without Cold's help so she only gets to tag along with him most of the time. Cold lets her just because he thinks it'll be interesting. He even sometimes let her possess him for shits and giggles. Like the one time she wanted to eat something and Cold had to eat against his will (it's not his meal time yet 😞). It was... an experience.
No one can see Spectre other than Cold so she gets real lonely and develops a mischievous side to her. She haunts the people residing there, often also trying to make Cold express something. She succeeds, sort of.
She's very ruthless to the village chief though. Mostly because he's an asshole who absolutely hates the monarchy and treats Cold poorly. She gets him to prank the chief later on and they become bestiessss ✨
Spectre did request Cold to go to the mountain but gets shut down quickly when he says no. Like he's not even entertaining her about it. He leaves her immediately whenever she brings up the topic and will avoid her like the plague the next day.
So she asks to leave the village instead because she hates being cooped up for too long and Cold just says he can't leave just yet. Not until his benefactor comes back and takes him with them. So Specter gets really pissed at him for it and at her shitty situation so she kinda uhhhh wrecks the village and gets Cold in trouble.
That's about it I think 🤔 lol 😆

I like STP swap aus in theory but I find how I've seen people do them a little strange (not bad tho they're still cool n stuff and I like them very much)
Like they're just... making the princess bird shaped without actually examining what swapping the Shifting Mound and Long Quiet's role in the narrative would mean. (Not meant to be negative)
Let's take the Narrator for example. In Slay the Princess he wants to kill the Princess because he wants to stop death forever. But the Long Quiet isn't death, he's stillness, lack of change. This completely changes the Narrator's core motivation. It can work though. Maybe he's in a world that has stagnated, no change, no innovation. It feels like rot, so he decided he had to find a way to be rid of it. Or maybe some other explanation. This would change his core world view, what he might consider a good end, how he acts a bit, lots of things.
Speaking of the good end, that's definitely not going to be an eternity of stagnant bliss, we literally just killed the personanification of stagnation. You could think around that too. Remember I the stranger route when everything was happening at once and it was the same as nothing happening? Maybe that happens. Without stillness the Princess is met with a barrage of constant change and stimulation, everything happening at once. The Princess could realise it is Nothing as much as it is Everything and that gets her out of it.
The Long quiet would be interesting too, because he doesn't change, it isn't in his nature to. Instead, he fractures. Perhaps instead of finding his multitudes you are shattering him. Breaking off parts of him so he can see them from the outside and know them. Once enough pieces of him have been broken off he will shatter completely and finally be able to see all of him, would talons pick up his broken pieces, would wings made of textured nothingness wrap around them and embrace them tightly? Would he reside on a hill of squirming hands or bodies, lost in the centre of the shifting mound?
Perhaps without a need for agency, or someone to make a decision the Voices would just exist as their own thing. First one that claims to be a Hero, who claims to have agency in their story (a part of reflected in her, the Long Quiet does not need to shatter to be able to see him), quickly joined by a Paranoid and terrified victim, an Opportunist Scammer, a Stubborn opponent. Different, but not changed. Not the one person molded into another.
Even the construct itself would be changed by who it is created to kill. Perhaps when the Princess first arrives on the path in the woods it is autumn, a sign of the seasons changing, there is life and death and nature and cycles, but on that 3rd Chapter, it is summer. The leaves are green and waxy, everything is preserved in a completely silent stillness. Maybe there is a horror in that no matter how you get there those silent woods are always the same, unchanging.
Unlike the Long Quiet, the Shifting Mound does change. She is naturally malleable. She has no need for voices because whatever action you take becomes what she would have always done. Perhaps her body changes, giving her new advantages, the body of a vicious Beast stalks towards the cabin, hunger tinting your choices through a cabin twisted to suit her needs. A goddess glides towards her temple, willing it to be large enough to fit her. A dainty Princess hurries to find her Prince charming in a fairytale cabin. The land twists under her will, whether she realises that or not, only giving resistance when too close to the 'monster' kept down there. She is change, it is only natural she causes it.
Even stuff like how to get rid of him would change, because can you actually kill the absence of something? The natural state of things before they shift? The shifting mound is motion and for everything to be in motion all the time means nothing can ever really happen at all. There is no fulfilment in anything you do if your opinion on what to do changes every moment you exist. Perhaps to truly 'kill' him she needs to make him smaller, change what cannot be changed to make the stillness that will be broken, the things to be changed. Perhaps he will break them out of there and thank her. Perhaps without a way to know himself he slowly fades into a nothingness, trapped in an eternity of stagnation that change herself refused to save him from.
It is still a love story, he is naturally inclined to help her, she will always love him, but things have changed.
Anyway this is just a dumb little ramble because I was thinking and it's nearly 3am so this is probably nonsense anyway. I do really like swap ideas they're interesting and stuff <3

Still thinking about how a route in a Swap AU with the Paranoid and the Nightmare could go. This is mostly going by atmosphere and mood. I love the idea that the Paranoid would be running from the Nightmare. He's afraid that it doesn't occur to him to look for a way out because how can he find one with her here?
The Nightmare is baffled and amused but she also did try to kill him. Or did it. Okay, he's got every right to be paranoid.
That still leaves the question: What happened in the 1st chapter to lead to this outcome? Would this really be the parallel to the canon Nightmare Route? How would the Princess have to treat him that The Long Quiet's biggest nightmare - trapped in an unending nothingness, all alone, never changing - would manifest?

Im just gonna keep asking you swap AU stuff until it takes off in the fandom (this AU has dozens and dozens of fans who are all making things IN MY HEART)
SO, next big thing I'm thinking about is who becomes Firelord. I kinda see Zuko following along to the plot beats of cannon Azula's madness arc, breaking under the pressure of trying to hold everything together and playing too many sides at once.
Meanwhile, Azula's getting all the important character-building relationships with the gaang. ALSO since Lu Ten is still alive, he could also be a viable contender for the throne, but something makes me think he'd follow Iroh's arc and want nothing to do with being Firelord. Royal advisor AT MOST, but alas 🤔🤔
Ngl I really like the idea of Lu Ten becoming a royal advisor, since Azula is still so young. He doesn’t want to become Firelord, but he still wants to help his cousin the best he can.
So I made a lil doodle cuz I like making lil doodles
Tumblr media
Then I had the urge to draw Zuko during his breakdown so I made a more rendered piece
I will admit I quickly scribbled this together to not make u wait for an answer any longer so it looks a little off 😭
Otherwise I’m quite happy with it
Tumblr media
So yeah, Zuko goes through a madness arc like canon Azula after he believed everyone was simply using him. Azula never accepted his help, which just frustrated him, Mai and Ty Lee betrayed him, and his father only showed his “love” after Zuko began excelling at fire bending. All this made him believe his mother was just using him as well, which is why he snaps at her hallucination like canon Azula.
That being said, I think it’s worth mentioning that he still had a good relationship with her as a kid. She taught him to be kind, hence the reason he’s so insistent on helping his sister. But his patience had limits.
After Zuko is defeated Azula takes the throne and Lu Ten becomes her royal advisor, as he thinks she’s too young to rule on her own.
