day five of twelve days of rina: favorite episodes 🤩

I’m doing one from each season because I’m like that and can’t choose

season one: episode five - homecoming

homecoming is obviously one of the most important and essential episodes to rina’s storyline. This is where they all got started, this is when they really started to shine, and obviously without this episode there really wouldn’t be a rina. their chemistry was off the charts in this episode and honestly going back and seeing how genuine they are with each other and how they can be so fresh and just honest with each other; man it really is something else. rini never held a candle to rina, looking back on it. They never stood a chance. “I thought we sort of, like, got each other” and “You know I meant what I said. at the skate park, about you having your own style. I don't even think I knew how much I meant it when I said it.” like dude. monumental. Already these two characters are having such a profound effect on each other and it’s been only a couple of months. AND THE CHEEK KISS. THE FREAKING CHEEK KISS. because for me, rina was never really a thought in my mind until that kiss. Until Gina showed me that she was opening up her hard heart to the brown curly haired boy with the great voice and sass for days. until Ricky showed me he wasn’t opposed to it. until their chemistry was so off the charts I was blown away.

season two: episode four - the quincenero

okay, hear me out, this episode is actually pretty important to rina. There’s a ton of character growth from Gina specifically. obviously there are other moments but I really do like the moment where Ricky comes to Gina for advice about nini and she says that maybe they shouldn’t give advice to each other and she’s not nini. which I think is a beautiful parallel, looking back on it, to when Ricky didn’t try and convince Gina to stay in slc and not do the movie because he’d already had an experience with nini where he did tell her that and she completely fumbled and freaked out. which, understandable, whatever. That’s her. But the thing is, that’s what gina wants. Gina wants to be set apart from nini, Gina is completely different from nini and in this episode she’s trying to tell him that (which she’s right, bc nini did not like it at all when Ricky revealed he’d talked to miss Jenn about getting nini in the show, but the fact remains is that Gina said she’d be flattered but said “I’m not nini and we’re not dating” to try and tell Ricky that maybe that’s not what nini wants). Gina is telling him that the things that work for her are not going to work for nini because they are two different people and their relationships - both romantic and platonic, current and future - are entirely different. which is so profound and beautiful when you compare that to Ricky’s aversion of change and you see how nini and Ricky’s relationship began to fail because Ricky was using things Gina had told him all along. which is kind of emotional cheating but wtv. anyways, the fact that Ricky was dating the person he was “most comfortable with” but using the girl who represents change’s advice is something I just love. And I’m sure I’m not explaining it well, so if anyone sees this and wants to add/explain better pls do.

season three: episode five - the real campers of shallow lake

okay I absolutely love this episode and not just because of the rina content. everything about the drama between Maddox and jet to portwell drama to Ashlyn and Val and obviously Ricky angst and feisty gina makes this episode so 💋 but obviously, I’m here to talk about the what do you know about love duet. Which Ricky/josh and Gina/sofia ABSOLUTELY SLAPPED and I gave them a standing ovation as soon as it was finished. because this was EVERYTHING. Kourtney’s clear approval, Val’s interpretation of the whole thing, their freaking history, Carlos’s encouragement, ej’s uncomfortableness, it’s all perfection. their playful banter, their voices, this being their first duet, ugh it does things to me. And the fact that it really does represent gina as anna and Ricky as Kristoff seeing that Gina is in a brand new relationship and thinks everything is rainbows and butterflies while Ricky, who has only experienced love where he has to work for the other person and strive to make things work instead of it being more effortless and easy (as rina are later) is amazing and beautiful. I could explain this more later but I don’t want to run out of room so if you want to know more, lmk. and also the “rebound” afterwards where RICKY APOLOGIZES FOR HIS INTENSITY KNOWING GI WAS EQUALLY AS INTENSE because he knows something is up with ej. but he wants to be there for gi. He wants her first relationship to go well, and he defends her to ej as well telling him that she’s just tired and coming down from the rehearsal. watch out world, Ricky Bowen will defend Gina Porter with his entire being.

season four: episode five - admissions

AGHHHHHHHHHH this episode lowkey might be my favorite of the entire series. but then again I loved every moment of every episode so I won’t say that. But this episode is MONUMENTAL for both Gina and Ricky and especially in their relationship. Gina finally opens up to her mom abt her and Ricky, Ricky opens up to ej about his fears and confronts his tendency to hide when things go wrong, and it all culminates in a beautiful second chance confession rain kiss spin hug. UGH, Tim, my FRICKIN HEART! I really do love the conversation between ej and Ricky because they truly are brothers and besties. ej truly helps Ricky so so much. And I could have a whole conversation about their conversation and all the ways it is beautiful but I won’t. Gina, meanwhile, is coming to the realization that Ricky is her inspiration and Ricky is the reason why she is happy. Ricky Bowen makes her the happiest she has ever been and it physically hurts her that her mother does not know this (it hurt me, as a viewer!) and the beautiful second chance playing as Ricky sees Mack and Gina and turns away~ it really shows that 02x12 really was about Gina all along, it was never about lilly. it was always Gina. nobody else ever stood a chance.

Thinking about that "Seb comes from a Mormon family" theory that I have and like...

Holiday stuff would be so funny to try and introduce Carlos to. I've been to SO many Christmas Eve parties in SLC over the years and a lot of them follow the same formula so I just keep picturing this turn of events that's like.

Seb invites Carlos to his farm for the family Christmas Eve party and he's like okay sure. Shows up and oh. It's not just his family. It's the WHOLE family. With like, all 13 of his cousins, and all his aunts and uncles. Okay, this is fine, sure.

Then they do the thing where they pull out a whole ass birthday cake and make everyone sing happy birthday to Jesus and the small kids get to blow out the candles. (My best friend's mom used to hide a tiny plastic baby Jesus in the cake somewhere after it cooled before she frosted it, and if you got it in your slice then it meant you got to read the bible passages about the birth of Christ after dinner in the sitting room and GOD I feel like one of Seb's aunts definitely does that tradition)

After that it's several rounds of charades, a super weirdly competitive edition of White Elephant, and then everyone tromps to cars so they can all drive to Temple Square to go walk around all the lights and the nativity sets.

I feel like Carlos would be mostly out of his element trying to figure out what the fuck is going on during the whole thing. But you could end it really sweet with Seb apologizing at Temple Square for it being too much, and then makes it up to him by doing one of those Christmas "sleigh" rides with the horses and carriages decked out in bells and mistletoe that they have running all over the place in downtown SLC during Christmas.

The best thing about being 16 was the freedom and independence Carlos’s driver’s license afforded him.

The worst thing about being 16 was that his still-15-and-three-quarters boyfriend now expected Carlos to regularly drive out to the Matthew-Smith farm, which was usually crowded with all of Seb’s siblings AND was miles away from SLC along lonely back roads.

At least Seb usually rewarded Carlos for his drive with kisses (which, as far as Carlos was concerned, were far better than gas money).

Today, however, Seb had promised something even better.

Especially for a hot summer day like today.

Seb had promised him homemade ice cream.

So Carlos hadn’t even bothered to eat lunch, wanting to save as much room for the yummy treat as possible.

Which meant his stomach was already starting to growl as he drove his car up the long Matthew-Smith driveway.

When he finally got to the house, Seb was standing outside, waiting for Carlos’s arrival, and hurried over to greet him with a sunny smile and an enthusiastic kiss.

But as their lips parted, Carlos impatiently asked, “So what flavor did you make?” He hadn’t thought to ask beforehand, and his mind had come up with all sorts of delicious possibilities on the long drive.

Seb’s response, however, was cryptic. “Whatever flavor you want, of course.”

Carlos frowned. “What does that even mean?” He was pretty certain that the Matthew-Smiths hadn’t invented magic ice cream that could change flavor automatically.

“It means it’s your choice. You can pick whatever flavor you want to make.”

It took a moment for Carlos to realize what his boyfriend meant.

“YOU MEAN IT’S NOT MADE YET?!”

As if on cue, his stomach let out a loud rumble.

This was not good. This was not good at all.

I feel like I want to post, not a 'rewrite' of season 3, because I do like the story and how most of it played out, but like a few extra scenes or scene add-ons that we could have gotten if the episodes were at a more standardized run length. More to show some of the relationships or traits we get told about.

Specifically to establish the camp as a home for Ej when not in SLC. He was so busy that he felt almost like a prop with dialogue in some aspects. Like he knows these people, two of them are his best friends, some he admittedly hasn't had a lot of time to update with his current life, but still.

03x01

Arrive at CSL (explain Val missing & general roles)

EJ: Where's Val? If you're collecting phones, who's setting up stage?

Maddox: flight delay, Val can't be in until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Dewey's rigging the lights.

EJ: you're going to spend 3 hours fixing those

Maddox: I know. When you're settled, stop by the office to grab your keys and badge.

Collecting the phones (explaining how everyone just has them anyway)

Maddox: if you really need it, there's a rotary phone by the barn, and some of the CITs have a key to the drawer these are in, but we do try to avoid using them.

Dewey (off screen): Gadget! This things broken again!

During Ej and Gina's talk at the barn

Gina: is she going to do that everyday?

EJ: be glad she waits til 7:00, Gadget wakes up at 4:00. ( Mainly because the hilarious parallel of neither sibling sleeping ever)

Gina: why?

EJ: it's so she can get things set up in time. The stage for rehearsals needs to be prepared, waking up camp, prep work for activities in the week. She's been a CIT since she was like 13, at this point, she runs this place more than Dewey does.

When Val and EJ are speaking in the office

Val: you know we own phones right? What happened this year?

EJ: a lot, I'm sorry there was so much going on at school and with college....

Val: you're fine, life happens. It was just radio silence for months then all of the sudden Maddox is texting me about some big mass apology for being a jerk and cheating and poisoning people? By the way, I don't think Maddox is going to let you borrow her keys to the pantry this year.

EJ: yeah that's fair.

Val: talk to us, especially if you need someone who won't take the problem home.

At the cast wall

EJ: Stage Manager, Where's Val? I need to talk to her about the cast list.

Maddox: Mallory's sick, Val is filling in for CIT for the sporting cabins, they're doing nature walks today.

When EJ stops by with flowers

Rules of camping

EJ: Also, no walking alone in the woods, and stay on the paths. If you do get lost, stay put and yell out, Maddox will come get you faster than you'll wander back. No switching tents, so make sure you like your roommate.

At Ej's Tent

Maddox: let's make a deal, if you sing the ballad of shallow Lake, I'll come back here afterwards and we can sort out the set design. That takes one thing off your plate. I can get started construction tomorrow.

EJ: don't you want to scare the new kids, Woman in the Woods?

Maddox: I set up speakers, left a Gillie suit out and gave Crash two boxes of candy to creep around the fire during storytime, I'm sure people will get plenty scared. This is important to you, so let's make sure it goes well.

EJ: you're evil on Halloween, aren't you?

When Carlos and Kourtney are with Ej

EJ: Kourtney, there is no Woman in the Woods, it's Maddox. She likes scaring people on Newbie night. The russling, the screams, it's all her. Shes trying to get you to have fun.

Kourtney: making cardiac arrest contagious is not fun.

EJ: yeah, this is, unfortunately, Gadgets A-game with socializing. I think you guys make her nervous. Either way, she's done for tonight, so you can relax.

This cemetery post focuses on Emily Partridge Young and her children. I'll talk more about Emily and her life in a bit, but I wanted to start off with some discussion of polygamous families in grave records. Both the two family plots I've discussed so far (the Whitney and Wells families) are basically centered around the family patriarch and his wives and include graves for children from multiple marriages. Horace Whitney, like the majority of Mormon polygamists, only had two wives at the same time. Daniel Wells had six, which actually puts him in a very small minority of most-married polygamists, but Brigham Young was basically in a category by himself (well, really he was in a category with himself and Heber Kimball, but I'm focusing on his family here). With children by sixteen women, including Emily, and more wives whom he did not have children with, the Young family matrix is even more complicated--both in life and in death.

I know from Emily's diary entries that Brigham's widows were offered the choice to be buried with him in a small family cemetery near the Lion and Beehive Houses or to be buried elsewhere (Emily then remarked, half-sarcastically, that she hoped they would not be in a hurry to bury her). She was conflicted over this choice, as she was about her marriage in general, but ultimately chose to be buried here in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, next to her son and his family. Most of Brigham's widows made the same choice, with only six choosing a plot next to their husband. There are several quadrants of the SLC cemetery that are primarily Youngs, though, with several sister-wives and half-siblings buried near Emily and Don Carlos.

Anyway, I brought this up partially because I think it's interesting and partially because it speaks to a sort of conflict between different notions of family in Emily's life: her immediate nuclear family, the children to whom she was a devoted and loving mother, and the larger polygamist family in whose orbit she spent much of her life, yet often felt isolated from. (In addition, let's consider her other biological family: all three of her surviving sisters shared a husband, and they did not live in Salt Lake City, and she struggled with being separated from her siblings while they all lived together).

Emily was the third daughter of Edward and Lydia Partridge. Her parents became early Mormon converts when she was six, and her father was the first in the church to hold the title of bishop. Emily wrote poignantly about her childhood home in Painesville, Ohio, where her father worked as a comfortably middle-class hatter. Despite, or perhaps because of, the sacrifices she'd made for her faith throughout her life, she felt that she had never truly been at home anywhere since she'd left Painesville as a young child.

Shortly after the Mormons had arrived in Nauvoo, when malaria was sweeping through the population, Emily's father and her older sister Harriet died within days of each other. Joseph and Emma Smith took in 16-year-old Emily and her oldest sister Eliza to relieve the burdens of their widowed mother. Emily remembered her first two years living with the Smiths fondly. She seems to have seen them as surrogate parents, felt they were fond of her, and adored their younger children. Things changed when Joseph asked her to secretly marry him. Emily was resistant at first but eventually gave in after a second proposal on her nineteenth birthday. A few months later, she married him again along with her sister Eliza, this time with the begrudging agreement of his first wife. The Partridge sisters were told not to tell Emma they'd already married him, so as not to upset her, but the relationship between Emma and the younger women was ruined anyway. After several more months of conflict, Joseph agreed to have Emily and Eliza move out. Not long later, Joseph was killed: Emily later wrote about how difficult it was to attend the funeral as a secret wife. Almost immediately, she remarried Brigham Young as a "proxy wife" for time (meaning that she and her future children would "belong" to Joseph Smith for eternity), and soon was expecting her first child. Three marriages to two men, a funeral, and a pregnancy in less than two years.

Emily with her two oldest children, Edward (who tragically died not long after this picture was taken) and Emily.

I would describe Emily's second marriage as deeply unfulfilling, and she did too, at least in the private pages of her diary. Being part of such a large polygamist family was stressful in general, but it was particularly so for Emily, who felt unloved and forgotten by her husband, to the point of unsuccessfully asking him for a divorce at one point. While she initially lived in the Lion House with several other wives, she was eventually sent to live with her children on an isolated dairy farm her husband owned, and later to a run-down house in Salt Lake City. As a less favored wife, her financial situation was also precarious, and she felt that her husband neglected and resented their children because of his issues with her.

While she had a lot of conflict with her husband, and often felt lost among the other wives socially or jealous of their comparatively favored position, many of the other women and children in the Young family remembered her as a kind and loving presence. Though there's definitely some disconnect between what she expressed privately and to others, her personal writings do show her to have been a sweet and compassionate woman--though one who also had a lot of pain and anger she doesn't seem to have felt comfortable expressing out loud. I think the way she wrote about Emma Smith is particularly striking--while she clearly still was upset about how she'd been treated as a teenager, especially being thrown out of their home, she also expressed a lot of sympathy for what Emma was dealing with and I think the way she thought about this situation shows a lot of both intellectual and emotional nuance. In general, she seems like a very kind, thoughtful person, and I feel very sad that she did not receive the kind of love back that she seems to have desperately wanted.

I also wanted to talk a little bit about her children. The grey-scale photo is Emily again, this time a little older, and the other pictures are her five children who survived to adulthood, in birth order: Emily, Caroline, Don Carlos, Miriam, and Josephine. There’s definitely a family resemblance, I think. I was able to find the graves of all but Miriam (I found several of Miriam's children where Miriam and her husband are supposed to be buried, but I wasn't able to find the parents. Again, this is an area of the cemetery that is not in the best repair and all the graves are in-ground plaques, so they may have grown over).

Emily Jr. and Caroline were both, like their mother, plural wives married to significantly older men--Emily to Hiram Clawson, Caroline to apostle George Q. Cannon. I included a picture of Hiram's gravestone, which is this huge and in my opinion quite ugly literal boulder that dwarfs the small plaques of his wives, and of the Cannon family monument as well as Caroline's individual gravestone. Don Carlos, an architect, also had two wives, Alice Dowden and Marion Hardy, though both were less than a decade younger than him. Younger sisters Miriam and Josephine were both in monogamous marriages. Miriam was married to Leonard Hardy, who was the brother of Carlos's wife Marion (Miriam and Leonard married first), and Josephine, somewhat disturbingly, was married to Albert Young, who was her half-brother Brigham Jr.'s son. So her husband was technically her nephew, but due to the half-sibling thing, the fact that she and Brigham Jr. did not really grow up together, and the wonky generations meaning that Albert was actually a few years older than her, I think genetically and socially it was probably more like a cousin marriage. Still, it's definitely a bit uncomfortable to put that together.

Moving back to talk about Emily again before I close: I feel like a broken record here a bit, but I just wanted to pay tribute to someone who seems like she was a decent, kind-hearted woman who survived a lot of very difficult trials, including raising her children mostly on her own. While she didn't have the public presence or published writing that some of the other women whose graves I visited did, her private writing is articulate and poetic, especially when dealing with the injustice and emotional conflict she faced. I hope that she feels the peace and comfort that so often eluded her in life.

Season 3, Episode 7 Thoughts

I know this is literally me skipping straight to the end, but I absolutely love seeing Maddox doing the opening recap. I’ll be honest, I thought she was just going to be a series regular for this season only and that the Maddox/jet storyline was just for this season. It was going to be wrapped up in a pretty bow for camp. But the ending with Maddox having feelings for Ashlyn makes it seem like this isn’t the end? I don’t know if they will have her return next season (which idk how because I think they’re from Cali, not SLC) or have her and Ashlyn writing and then maybe bring her back for an episode or two next season? I’m just really curious how this storyline will play out. That’s the one thing about this show. I see storylines (like ricky and lily) and think they’re going to go on and on and they end in like, one episode. But then I see other ones (like p*w needing to break up) and think they will end in a few episodes and they go on for longer than expected. I really am kept on my toes quite a bit with this show

Lol this is a small detail but during the recap they overlap the sounds from one scene to the next and when EJ rejects Gina’s promposal, the show overlapped that scene with the cheers from color wars and Jet winning 😭 I’m weak that is so funny

This is going to sound freaking weird, but I loved the scene of ricky eating the pizza. It was really cinematic?? Like the budget was showing. Idk why it all went to Richard shoving his face full of hot grease but I’ll take it. It kind of reminded me of a scene you would have seen in something like those cartoons come to movie (captain underpants, diary of a wimpy kid, etc.)

Also i doubt Joshua was acting at that point because i heard that’s why people don’t eat a lot in movie scenes: because they have to take bites for every single take. And having to eat bites of something for 20 takes in a row can really add up… so he might have been feeling a little ill after depending on how many takes this scene was

Lol the fact that ej was compared to a 1980’s villain and then wears THAT attire to the dance (it could be late 1970’s). He really went fully into character 😂

I LOVE Carlos and ricky’s friendship. Ricky helped Carlos with seb and I think Carlos not only caught on to what gina was saying last season when she talked about “someone” bothering her, but he also sees that ricky has the hots for gina, so he might have connected some dots. I’ve been saying this for a hot minute now but I think Carlos and Ashlyn are going to be key players in rina getting together and they kind of already have been. Ashlyn knows Gina’s backstory and Carlos knows about Ricky’s crush and that gina was bothered by “someone” (him) last season. It’s going to be cool to see how it all plays out, but I love Carlos being on the lookout for ricky. Especially where he can be known to “instigate” or “stir up drama”, I think he and ricky have a good enough friendship that Carlos has his back and that’s why he warned ricky the confession could be shown sooner than he thinks. I’m totally rambling but it’s only because it makes me feel soft inside 🥺

And Carlos used his one phone call to know more about the tea?? I don’t think it was all for ricky, but like, he probably asked because he was looking out for him. I’m just AHHHHH

Ricky throwing up over gina. He screamed (yelling at the cameras and Corbin about best summer ever), he cried (in his bunk), and now he’s throwing up. The perfect trifecta ❤️

I loveeee seeing all the girlies get dressed up beforehand together. It’s just so cute. Some of my favorite moments with my friends are just in the time we’re getting ready before we go out and we just hype each other up. This scene just brings back those happy mems ❤️

This has been pointed out on tumblr (as well as some of my other thoughts probably so I’m sorry if I’m a little repetitive) but I love that Gina talks about the possible history of camp prom and then they parallel it with ricky. Great minds think alike ig

Ashlyn you’re so cute!! And I love that they made her coming out a big thing for her but not big in a negative way. They kind of handled that scenario more with Maddox, but with Ashlyn it’s just been chill. She learned more about herself like she would a new hobby, and she finds it positive because “her dating pool got bigger”. It was also cute to hear her say she has a crush on Val. Obviously there is going to be some… discussions had when she gets with big red again because they’ve made it clear this season they’re still talking, but for now I am just enjoying seeing Ashlyn finally accept who I have seen her be since season one with her sword 😂

Something that bothers me about gina saying in front of all the girls, including Ashlyn EJ’s COUSIN, is that she felt like EJ’s been ignoring her. I guess maybe they didn’t want to make it their business but why didn’t anyone say anything? Is it because they thought gina could handle it on her own? Idk it just makes me sad that they knew he’s been a tool but it seems everyone’s kept quiet with him

Ricky and his cleavage is SENDING me. Boy, if only 😂 i saw someone post pics of him on twitter where he wore even deeper v necks irl (josh) and i just love when shows make little call outs like this. Like in Valentine’s Day when Taylor Lautner says he is uncomfy taking his shirt off. Just GOLD

There’s some camper in the background getting dressed and to idle he is doing little dance moves and I don’t know why but it’s killing me 😂 like he couldn’t think of anything else to do. And then sometimes he just stands there like 🧍 Just watch him next time you rewatch this scene hahahaha

“Like slapping?” PLS RICHARD again why is everyone on this show so LOUD. Just so out of pocket and for what 😭

I love that JOJO is a guest star but is still wearing the most Jojo siwa outfit I could think of. They really weren’t going to let her get out of loads of colors and sparkles

I actually feel a little bad for Jet. Like I know he screwed up but over time we’ve learned that a lot of his actions weren’t intentional and I think Maddox just refused to listen to his side so much that is caused more catastrophe than what it was worth. This scene was hard to watch because it seemed like Maddox didn’t care what the explanation was going to be or how hard he was trying, she was still going to decide to be mad. I’m glad they didn’t drag it on much past this because I think I would have started to dislike Maddox instead of understanding her side, which is not what I wanted to do

Lol Maddox saying, “maybe I do need a friend” and jojo just nods like, “please girl I know” hahahahaa I don’t think jojo meant to make that face though

This is completely irrelevant but I remember watching this thinking how much I wouldn’t enjoy this dance because I wouldn’t know ANY of the music. I’m probably in the older crowd of people who watch this show and even I don’t know a lot of 70’s music so I don’t know how literal gen x’ers would be having that much fun dancing to it

Carlos you do NOT look like miss Edna from hairspray. Hairspray is one of my FAVORITE movies of all time and that is not what he is giving 😂 i don’t get this joke. I think there were about a million other references that would have gotten closer. I think he looks more like a Cheetah Girl than anything but that’s just me

Look I KNOW ej is stressed about the play, but ricky is right. He could have waited even an hour or two and then returned back to his work. As much as EJ doesn’t want to be like his dad, the workaholic side seems exactly like a “Cash” quality and I don’t know that he realizes that yet

Interesting that ej chose a quote about Kristoff wondering why Anna chose to be in a relationship with a guy she just met. This was foreshadowing to the break up later, no doubt

Also if you have the captions on, ricky says in quotes “wait. You got engaged to someone you just met?” And then NOT in quotes, to Carlos, he says “he’s got a point” (talking about Kristoff). Even ricky is wondering why someone would just jump into a relationship with someone they barely know. I know this is definitely more towards p*w, but this could also reflect ricky trying to date lily as a last resort as well. There are just layers and layers to this show guys

Ricky’s eyes are THE BIGGEST heart eyes i ever did see. The other time they get this big is in their convo scene outside the barn when they’re on the bench

And also gina left him speechless??? Like that’s queen behavior.

Not only is he speechless but he is sweating and shaking!!! Someone get this boy some milk! 🥛

Like gina honey, ej was never going to care about you like ricky does and this whole scene proves it

Not to mention ricky and Carlos see her first… EJ looks up a few seconds later when he’s not so immersed in his work! They purposely leave him looking up a little bit later in the camera. That is symbolism people!! He is putting his work and everything else in front of seeing gina. He looks at her second because the person who puts her first is already looking! (They do this again later in the episode when she is sad and looking for ej and the person who sees her first, ricky, is already looking at her yet again!)

And can we talk about the ROMCOMIFICATION of this entire episode… well season? I know it’s intentionally supposed to feel like one but this scene did it justice. The slow motion, music in the background, gasps ricky is trying to gasp next to her boyfriend… I literally feel like I’m just watching one of my favorite movies right now. AND, this is my favorite “boy sees pretty girl” reaction I think I have ever seen… ever. Which is saying a lot because I watch a LOT of romance.

And like, they show Ricky’s face first and you just KNOW that he sees gina. EJ’s dialogue about needing to “stay in the zone” helps set this up, but even without it, you can just tell how WHIPPED this man is from the second he sees her. And while we never saw it, let’s not pretend he didn’t do this every time he saw her this season because she honestly looked SO CUTE in every outfit

All 3 girls were serving breakfast lunch and dinner as they should!!!

Again the show breaking the fourth wall “you refuse to dance in front of people” “I have two left feet” and one of the biggest things jojo is known for is dancing hahahaha

I love the swing in the cabin it’s so cute

I like that Maddox’s parents weren’t upset about her being gay. They alluded to this in the first few episodes, so I’m glad that was a misdirect and that her parents were nice to her about it

“The night’s not over, neither is the summer” I really hope this means that some of the characters spend time together throughout the summer and that the show talks about it a little in s4. I answered an ask tonight about this and how cute it would be if rina spends summer together before school starts

THE PIN ARE YOU K-WORDING ME

But does anyone realize the implications of this!! We never see Ashlyn tell anyone she is queer in the show but Carlos shows up with the pin. And she talks about it a little in the cabin when she talks about “vibes”. This means that within the span of one night she’s already opening up to people about it which I think is so sweet! I am just so 🥺🥺 proud of her!

As much as ej has been not the ✨greatest✨ I really appreciated this part with him reassuring Carlos. It brings me back to the other seasons EJ’s which i liked quite a bit. (Aside from the beginning of season 1). It feels very much like something HE would say and not this self-centered version he’s becoming. I like seeing that part of him still inside him.

I also feel really fondly of Carlos storyline because body image is something frequently addressed in women. While it is a bigger concern for women, it doesn’t mean that men don’t deal with it. You ever wonder why there are gym rats that are typically male? That’s typically a body image/low self-esteem thing they are trying to cope with. It’s nice to see some male perspective on this topic too ❤️

SEBBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY he is so cute 🥺 the show feels so much more whole with him back. I am really excited to see the full cast (ig outside of nini) back together next season. They just work so well together and play off each other in a really nice way. It’ll feel complete 💕

I’ve also seen this talked about so i wont say too much on this, but I think it’s really important that we recognize why ricky didn’t say anything when gina asked him to dance. This shows his character development. He actually looks a little misty eyed when gina asks (like seriously i have it paused rn and it looks like he might cry). And I think that’s because he might feel not only a little like a second choice, but also because he wants to dance with her so bad but knows it would be hurtful to ej after their little back and forth they’ve done all season. Literally three cheers to josh for his acting this season because WOW. You can just see so much complexity behind his thoughts in this moment and really feel the hurt, confusion, and fear that he’s working through in that moment. He walks away out of overwhelm again and it’s just… AHHHH

I’ve seen some people say they don’t like this version of “I wouldn’t change a thing” and some of the other music this season but I actually have liked the campiness of the songs. I think they did a good job making them their own without taking away from what they used to be. This was a really fun version of this song and I think it was well performed

Also, I LOVED the line “maybe we’re ready to be happy again” are you kidding me?? 🥺 that was SO SWEET. It’s just so simple but I think that’s how sibling relationships work. While there might be tough dynamics at times, for the most part, a lot of the relationships started off as simple. Playing together, little fights on the playground, getting tucked into bed by your parents. This line brings back the simplicity of who they used to be and the song reempahsizes that because it was her favorite to sing when they were little. It was just a well-worded speech from Maddox

“If you’re thinking of dancing, you’ll regret it if you don’t” MR CASWELL. ELTON JOHN. Do you have ANY idea the words you speak? Or do you just say words and hope they mean something? Because his emotional insight as of right now is about at a 0 🙄

And then he LOOKS AT GINA and walks out?? Either he knows he messed up big time or he really just could care less about making things right with her. I think both things might be true at this point. I didn’t even notice him leave this part until this second watch around. Elton john is who is gonna drive me insane song, that’s who

Ok seb chile like this song wasn’t even meant for them but they just ran up and took the mic and the seb decided to absolutely slaughter everyone else’s performance with his vocal run but slay ig

I made a post about this already but the lyrics they used to overlap this scene with gina being sad because the partner she was SUPPOSED to have the last dance with was ej. But as I noted earlier homeboy left. So when she looks, she sees ricky (also noted above that he’s already looking at her). “I can’t stay mad at you for anything” “we’re Venus and mars” (completely different planets- gina is change and ricky is stability), “the harmony to every song i sing” gina is the music in ricky which is why he has the rina cue every time he gets stronger feelings for her. There are LAYERS TO THIS. I want to scream from the rooftops how much I love this show and I still don’t think it would be enough

And then Ricky trying to cheer her up?? But then he’s probably thinking he hurt her when he didn’t dance with her and that’s why she isn’t reacting, so then he stops. But also technically he is still dancing at gina (not really with but I digress)… so this could be like him still showing up for her in the best way he knows how. He is such a silly, sad boy 😭 literally just a golden retriever it hurts so bad

Did you hear how Ashlyn said “we have heard… SO much about you?” Oooh i don’t know that Maddox’s feelings are unreciprocated 👀

This entire scene is just gina stating was Rina’s have been saying since day one about why p*w doesn’t work

Timberly GETS it or else it wouldn’t be stated so explicitly in the show

He is putting everything, even this important scene where gina wants to check in, before gina. Her asking him to put the binder down was a lot bigger than maybe this scene is making it out to be. She’s been asking him to put his work aside all season and she just never comes first to it

And listen, I said I don’t want to talk about this too much and I don’t, but the age gap allegations aren’t out of proportion! I’ve seen people say the age gap shouldn’t matter. If they love each other they will make it work… which yes and no. But gina is literally stating IN THE SHOW that their ages and life stages are in completely different points. That EJ isn’t a camper anymore; he’s acting more like an adult/post camper in charge of the younger ones.

Then when ej tries to make a point that ricky is the problem (an argument I’ve seen) gina again says, it’s not about him! Because it isn’t. Ricky had been minding his own business and just being a good friend. In fact he put p*w first several times above his own desire to be with gina. He even did it IN THIS EPISODE in front of gina when she asked him to dance. She states that she just wanted a future with ej! That the problem lies within p*w’s relationship!

And then she NAILS IT ON THE HEAD with what Rina’s have said a million and five times. Gina is CHANGE. She doesn’t want maybe. She wants stability. Someone who shows up and stays. Not someone who keeps her on her toes and uncertain all the time.

And that they were great for five minutes at the beginning of the summer. They were only a honeymoon phase like Hans and Anna!

“Could it really be over if it never got a chance to start?” But when it is boiled down to it, there were no fireworks. There was no chemistry. The thing that they were hoping and searching for that would make them last was never there (which was stated last episode)

SEBS COMEDIC TIMING IM DONE. THE SILENCE IS SO LOUD

And then him just walking away 😭

I saw someone comment about how they were thinking about how long and how hard seb must have been searching for ej just to say that and that makes this part SO MUCH FUNNIER

This gives the same energy as when the whole cast was fighting and ricky completely unprovoked was like, “JET AND MADDOX ARE SIBLINGS???”

Not ricky dumping his traumas from s1 on a stranger 😩

Ricky is SO soft in this season. What an interesting parallel AGAIN to gina wanting to come first and ricky literally leaves his convo halfway through to chase after her and make sure she’s ok 😭 I’m so-

And then the show just stating the parallel to the homecoming dance. The only other parallel i wish they had was gina pouring a drink on ej 😔 maybe in another life

But this scene shows so much care and compassion from ricky. When she drops the things out of her purse and he just reassures her that it’s really ok while helping her pick up the mess she’s made (read that last sentence again there might be symbolism there). He just wants to help her feel ok about her feelings and that is soooooo

And not only here, but later on when he’s about to reveal his crush, he sees that she is vulnerable and it’s not a good time. If he was a jerk he would do it at the time because he would care more about his needs getting met. That HE was heard and he got this worry off of his chest. It would be s1 ricky behavior. But this time, because he sees that gina just needs him to be there for her, he puts his needs aside to make sure she’s ok. “Love is putting someone else’s needs before your own”-Olaf.

But also look at Gina’s face when he tells her he has something to say. And the tone of her voice? You can’t tell me she didn’t sound excited? Intrigued? I think she was hoping ricky might have opened up about his feelings tonight but again, he knew it was the wrong time and place. But when it’s the right time? Right place? The payoff is going to be SO GOOD. And she said thank you when he told her it can wait. Like she appreciated him not putting too much on her right now since it wasn’t the right time. I don’t think she’s upset at all about waiting for what he has to say here.

THE RINA CUE I’M- just wheel me away 😭 I’m not gonna survive this season

Also I think Dewey cutting in was our way of knowing that it could have been a kiss but I also think it wasn’t supposed to be heavily implied. They don’t lean into it or get close enough to have one. They just look at each other close and it’s in these shared moments that we can see that spark between them. I said this in another post but their shared looks are almost more intimate than a kiss and I think that says something about just how deep their relationship goes.

Kourtney’s song being a prayer is so beautiful. She has mentioned being religious before (singing at church) and so I think it’s sweet hearing her bring this part of her into her music

Also Dara wrote such a lovely song. I am really impressed by the writing and singing talents of this whole cast. They’re just so talented and it shows well in these deeper moments.

Kourt climbing the wall to overcome her anxiety is symbolic of else climbing the mountain to overcome her fear. She talks about how her ice powers live in fear and the way to calm them is with love. We see that the love kourt feels from the other girls calms her enough to climb the wall. ❤️

Ricky and carlos calling each other bro is something so special to me?

Also i like that ej was the one who dunked ricky with water. Idk it kind of made me feel like this was the show hinting at them possibly becoming friends… again? I know it’s been debated if they were or not but at the beginning of the season and a couple times last season it seemed like their friendship was starting to go somewhere. The scene when ricky comes in the cabin and they both say their night was confusing…. I kind of wish we would have seen a little more than that. A discussion about why could have been healing and bonding for them, but I understand with time constraints and the need for gina to tell ricky she broke up with ej why they didn’t. I’m just saying… it might have been a nice scene. I really do hope that now that p*w is bones, maybe ricky and ej can find a place to try to heal their hurt friendship again

“You’re one of us now” this was so?????? After her feeling so left out and distant from everyone it was really sweet seeing them verbally say that she belongs

And now that gina feels better, ricky starts to tell her but then he’s sees ej so he backs off? He KNOWS they’re broken up, but he AGAIN doesn’t want to put his fear (or need) in front of gina when she’s already been through so much that night. His decision to just hold off was a HUGE sign of his growth… especially with how quick and on the spot he made that decision

I already talked about this a lot in an ask so I won’t get too deep into it but I have been bothered by gina saying “friendly fibs” are ok when she went off so much about how she hates liars? I think she had to say it so that ricky wouldn’t feel bad about walking around what he wanted to say for the sake of not stressing gina out on an already difficult night… but this line felt SO counterintuitive? Idk. I just found it a little off? I’d love to hear your guys’ opinions on it though

And you can’t tell me gina didn’t know where this convo was going. The lead up to it was ricky talking about WDYKAL and how intense it was romantically… like cmon. My girl might be a little heart broken but she’s not stupid. This is gina porter we’re talking about here. I’m just waiting for the “say it”, so he ACTUALLY states what he feels instead of dancing around it one of these days. (Maybe episode 8??)

I don’t feel like we’re going to have to wait until next season for the pay off with this plot (of ricky confessing his feelings because of the doc). It would be weird for them to make a whole plot around Ricky’s feelings and this documentary, as well as the scene in the bushes for a whole season- just for there not to be any conclusion to it this season. The seasons, while a part of a whole show, still act as complete stories within themselves. The documentary and summer camp are a complete story that needs resolutions that lead into potential cliff hangers next season. I think gina will find out Ricky’s feelings because of the doc but the cliff hanger will be that we won’t know hers and they won’t get together until next season. That wraps up the storyline this season but still rolls over into the next season to make the season feel more enmeshed with the show as a whole

The third “good night Ricky” of the show 😭 and then the look back???? Why are andi Mack plots making an appearance in hsmtmts?? Lol

I’ve seen some people say she looked back because she knew there was more and wanted him to say it and ricky didn’t because he thought that him fibbing had ended that problem. Which yes, could be. And also look at that smile on her face?? Ooh she knows there’s more and it’s some VERY good news for her

But either way, gina is going to find out about the doc, so fibbing doesn’t really resolve his issue, but maybe he found resolve in just letting it be instead of trying to get on top of it or fix it due to stress. Ricky you’ve grown so much my boy 😭

The “buckle up” was another parallel to “buckle up wildcats” 🥰 cuteeeee

Also what the h*ck is gonna happen episode 8? As I’ve said in another post, reviewers said they aren’t getting early access. Literally ALL of us are in the dark outside of a couple of screenshots and a title. We knew drama would be stirred up ep 5 but people still had access to it, so to me that seems like the show wasn’t AS worried if a review accidentally said too much. But where this is SO secretive and we know Channing and Corbin want MORE drama than before, me thinks this episode is going to be 3x5 on steroids. Even Sofia said there will be twists and turns we weren’t expecting. I’m freaking scared for 3x8 😂 but also hyped. If you have any guesses or predictions (spoiler free please!!) feel free to send them my way!

I love how much Tim is putting into the show even OUTSIDE of it. His care for making sure things go exactly the way they need to makes these episodes more exciting and thought provoking. I just feel more invested in this show than I have in one in awhile and that feeling is really nice ❤️

So Jarred/Trevor is going to be back in Season 4 for at least a few episode I am curious why he will be in season 4? Is he transferring to East High and causes tension between Seblos? Is he there to cause drama between Seblos?

Apparently now I am the almighty jarred mystery solver and I am HERE FOR IT

anyways yes, Jarred will be in s4! He’s been onset with the cast and was at their Halloween party (he and Adrian both dressed up as Sid from Toy Story)

My guess is that maybe Corbin will come back for HSM4 and see how the media’s perception of Carlos has hurt his relationship with Seb and feel bad cause he never wanted that to happen, and bring Jarred/Trevor (along with Jet, Maddox, and dancer Will who were all also on set) to SLC to clear the air but it only creates more drama.

not everyone losing it over this thinking it means rina isn’t going to happen this season or portwell are staying together or whatever 😭😭

I've been staying off of Twitter pretty much every Tuesday since this season started so that I don't listen to/watch/hear about the songs and whatever the latest sneak peek is, which is why I must've missed this.

I don't understand why anyone would be freaking out over this though. I remember Julia saying basically the same thing about season 2's last couple episodes during press last year and we all remember how that turned out. For the most part, this is just a generic thing actors always say when a season is nearing its end. You always want to tell your audience how many twist and turns are coming up, how they're going to be so surprised, because it gets them curious and makes them want to tune in.

Also, "plot twists" could mean literally anything. Maybe we're initially led to believe that EJ's going to leave for St Louis (I wish) but then Miss Jenn offers him a job as her Assistant Director in the finale so he can stay in SLC. + The casual audience still doesn't know about the [redacted] or about Madison & Seb surprising Maddox & Carlos, respectively, at Camp Prom next episode. & some people might think Ricky's resigned to not telling Gina how he feels, to suffer in silence for the sake of her happiness with EJ, but then BOOM, pw break up and that changes everything. & then we might finally find out, once and for all, if Ricky knew about Gina's feelings for him last semester/season (I would argue that he did, but piecing together context clues and getting an actual confirmation from Ricky himself are two totally different things). Any one of those could be considered a plot twist, depending on who you ask.

I'm honestly just surprised anyone is still questioning a pw breakup or whether Rina is happening at this point. No matter what Sofia is referring to in that quote, the fate of those two ships is very obvious.

Sorry I forgot to send you Part 2 of my ask about the writers might have been planning for EJ since the beginning to pursue a career in filming. 3.) EJ seem like he enjoy filming a birthday video for Carlos at his birthday party. 4.) In 2x08 Gina complimented EJ that he did a good job filming Carlos Birthday video maybe Gina can inspired him to purse a career in filming. 5.) The University of Utah is one of the best film schools in the USA which happens to be located in SLC. Part 2/3

If EJ decides he wants to go to film school there is a really nice college that is only 5 minutes away from East High in real life that happens to be one of the best film schools in the USA. EJ could still follow his dreams if he discovers he wants to be a Film Director without leaving Salt Lake City and still be with Gina. I don’t think EJ is ready to leave his younger friends behind just yet he can go to the University of Utah and still be close to his younger friends. Part 3/3

oh this is actually really interesting! i have had the theory of ej going to university of utah for a while but i didn’t realize they actually had a pretty good film program for him! i think it’s very plausible that this could be the route they take with him, and i hope it is because i would love a path that allows us to keep him around, even just as a guest star, for season four.

also, this would be a parallel to troy in the movies. original plan to go to a university that their fathers always planned for them to attend, then actually deciding to go somewhere else for a new passion they recently discovered.

So since we don't have official locations for what part of the area the characters ACTUALLY live in, I have THOUGHTS as someone who actually grew up in SLC. Or at least for these two, can you tell I've thought a lot about this.

Seb: So the only thing we know about his housing situation is that he lives on a farm. Believe it or not, there aren't farms running around in downtown SLC. So my personal belief is they're up further north, likely in Farmington. Which is like a 30 minute commute to East High, but logistically that's the only thing that makes sense to me because you don't really start seeing farmland until you get up to like, Woods Cross. Plus I just think it would be funny if the Matthew-Smiths lived in a city called FARMINGTON. (Bonus: Why has nobody written a fic about Seblos doing a date at Lagoon yet? ITS RIGHT THERE. Do I need to do this myself?)

Carlos: We know he's got CASH, so there's really only one acceptable answer here. He's gotta live in the Broadway District somewhere, because that neighborhood is RITSY as fuck. Like, apartments and condos running $700,000 kind of expensive. The nice thing about this, is it's pretty close to East High, like ten minutes or so. Not a super long drive. I also feel like his family has a ski lodge up in Park City somewhere because come on. Park City is where all the rich people in Utah spend their winter breaks when they aren't flying somewhere tropical.

Summary: Seb is missing Carlos. Big Red is missing Ashlyn. They go to see a movie starring a queer icon in a touching gay love story. What could possibly go wrong? 😉

Seb stared at his phone...or, more specifically, at the last text he’d received from Carlos.

It was hard to believe it had been 10 days since Seb had heard anything new from the boy, but he wasn’t worried. Big Red had explained—after Seb had frantically reached out to him following Carlos’s initial 24-hour silence—that campers weren’t allowed cell phones at Camp Shallow Lake, so the lack of messages wasn’t any sort of intentional ghosting.

But that didn’t mean Seb missed Carlos any less. He was used to a non-stop barrage of snarky comments, harsh observations, and fabulous pics from his boyfriend, so the lack of communication was deafening.

Not getting to go to theatre camp with his friends had been disappointing.

And not getting to snuggle with his boyfriend for two whole weeks was difficult.

But not getting to communicate at all with any of them was nearly impossible!

Especially when he knew that Carlos wouldn’t be able to advise him regarding the logistical issues of his request.

No, Carlos never really requested—he demanded.

After all, isn’t that what all those exclamation points meant?

So Seb carefully read through the message once again:

I totally 4got!! I bought us tix to the LGBTQIA+ Stream to Screen film fest before I knew the dates of Camp Shallow Lake. YOU CAN’T LET OUR TIX GO TO WASTE!!! I’ll send you the QR codes. And I want to hear ALL ABOUT IT afterwards!!!

Seb sighed. How was he going to pull this off, since he couldn’t exactly drive a tractor into SLC for the evening?

He obviously couldn’t have his dad drive him either because the rainbow marquee was liable to make him suspect something...and Seb still wasn’t really ready for that conversation just yet. Coming out to Natalie had been hard enough!

But the no-driving thing meant that Seb would have to find someone who was not only willing to go see the movies with him but was also willing to drive all the way out to his family’s farm to pick him up AND drive him back home after.

And unfortunately, most of his closest friends were at Camp Shallow Lake with Carlos, so they obviously weren’t available. Nini was gone, too, with her moms in L.A., and Steph was away at some dance intensive.

Of course, there was always Natalie...

But for obvious reasons, she wasn’t really a viable option for this particular activity.

So who was left? Seb had been so isolated on his farm since summer started, he felt like he couldn’t even remember all his friends, so he started mentally going through the cast list for Beauty and the Beast as a sort of friend roster.

Beauty? At camp.

The Beast? At camp.

Gaston? At camp.

Le Fou?

Le Fou!

That’s it!

Big Red could drive—though his car was currently at camp with Ricky—but surely the ginger had access to a family car, right?

And Seb knew Big Red was lonely and feeling left out, too, having to work all summer in his parents’ hot pizza kitchen while both his girlfriend and his BFF were away at camp. Therefore, he’d probably jump at the chance to hang out with a fellow Wildcat for several hours in a cool, air-conditioned theatre.

Besides, like the rest of the theatre kids, Big Red was obviously an ally. He clearly supported Seb and Carlos’s relationship, having made all those rainbow pizzas for Carlos’s quinceañero, so he probably wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of queer romances.

Thus Big Red was the perfect choice! Seb had figured out a solution!

Which meant he’d be able to use the tickets after all.

Phew! Carlos would be so happy!

July 12th- I'm back at trying to watch all the hsmtmts episode, I got pretty busy over the weekend. But I'm back now for episode 5: homecoming.

Also that kiss in the last episode was definitely more of a "I'm at a mental low point and need external validation" rather than a "in love" kind of a kiss

what is the timeline here, we started with Seblos dancing, then Ricky and big red are at school, then Nini's at school in the washroom, then Ricky's at home, then Seblos is done dancing. Is this before or after school?

The way you could tweak the perspective of this show and Nini would soo quickly become the villian. Like she's going to a karaoke bar where people are putting themselves out there and singing on a stage in front of a good amount of people just to put them down in order to feel better about herself

You cannot see how that is clearly bully behaviour, I feel like they wanted this to come off as a "cool" show so they had a bunch of the good characters be assholes so they can be more relatable but they just end up being assholes to everyone who can't relate to them

Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like Nini has average t above average levels of confidence for a teenagers

Who tf is calling Miss Jenn amazing

Imagine if you were one of the karaoke singers, why are we supposed t route for Nini again

From Gina's comment about Miss Jenn I feel like she's just used to all the teachers being scared of her so she just gets to break small rules

wtf is Nini's reasoning. Miss Jenn probably didn't know about her being the lead at summer camp so then the reason she got the lead was because of her confidence from playing that role. Which would only be valid if it came from Emily having bad luck and her confidence would be invalid if it came from someone else believing in her????

She always knew the part wasn't actually her's she was the understudy

Also there's like a 80% chance she only go the lead because Miss Jenn wanted Ricky's genuine emotion and also because she's still stuck in her high schools years and is projecting onto Nini

Kourtney says the 7th grade Nini "met Ricky" but aren't they supposed to be childhood best friends

Yeah, it's not true. When we're introduced to her we immediately see her reject a boy who really likes her and in a way that is possibly as hurtful as possible to him

She actually refuses to see anything from anyone else's eyes. When she confesses her love to Ricky she literally did it in the way she would've wanted it done and in a way that made him really uncomfortable by airing it all out to the public

I think Kourtney is projecting her relationship with Nini onto Nini's relationship with boys

Also if that were true all the guys in Nini's life literally worship her without her doing anything. She literally wouldn't have to change anything about herself for external validation. The she doesn't even accept that validation, because she doesn't care about how other people see her. Literally 5 minutes ago, she was saying she lost her confidence by realizing that it came from a boy doing something for her because he bevelived in her

SHOW DON'T TELL TIM

This would be a nice song if it wasn't basically telling a character who we've already been shown doesn't care how she hurt other people that she should care about other's even less

Also Kourtney is just constantly doing a shit load of emotional work for Nini, and it's like this isn't a fair or healthy friendship

And then we like never got an Ashlyn/Carlos interaction again

Seb finally showing up!!! I wonder if we'll have a call back to this in the episode "camp prom" in season 3

it feel kinda counteractive to have that end with Carlos dancing with Seb right after it was like, you don't need a partner to dance

It's nice for Ricky that he has someone who understands

Miss Jenn was supposed to be chaperoning the dance, this girl really needs to be fired
