Aspen's Anniversary Sleepover

Exactly one year ago, as it was turning from July 3rd to July 4th in my Mountain time zone, I was finalizing things and getting ready to post the first fanfic I'd published in more than six years. New account, new fandom. Starting a new stage of life, really... And part of that was to reclaim my love of writing. So I did it.

A lot of things have changed in my life over the course of this particular year's worth of days. Major pieces of my life have shifted, and small things as well. A significant part of my life and happiness since then has been this fandom - writing, reading, connecting with others, developing true friendships. My life doesn't revolve around this stuff, but it has grown from the good here.

AND SO I WANT TO THROW MY FIRST SLEEPOVER PARTY WITH YOU, MY TUMBLR FRIENDS - FROM THE CASUAL FOLLOWERS TO THE MUTUAL BESTIES!

The actual sleepover festivities will take place this weekend, but I'm posting to commemorate THE ANNIVERSARY MOMENT.

TELL ME YOUR MOST UNPOPULAR FANDOM OPINION

oh man okay this is hard

on a deep level, it makes me really sad that we don't have as much short alex fan art since the movie. the fact that the book included an M/M pairing where one of the characters is less than 6 ft is pretty rare (I've read a lot of M/M!) and as a short guy it was pretty sick to have someone who was shorter represented in a romance novel. I didn't get mad about that in the casting of Taylor, like rarely do actors perfectly fits all physical descriptions. But, I'm actually really sad about the loss of the short guy rep in the depictions of alex in the aftermath of the movie in both fic and fan art. Of course people can make the art they want (and they should!), I'm just sad that there's not more visual art of "biblically accurate" firstprince.

SORRY THAT GOT A BIT SAD. other unpopular opinions??? um. my hc that nora pegged alex? or my feelings about oscar díaz and ellen claremont? you know these already, I think.

Please tell me about the worst fandom(s) you've ever been a part of, and what made it the worst.

Mine is split between the Voltron fandom and probably Top Gun Mav. I wasn't huge into the fandom of Voltron, but I was hit by the residual. Though I DID watch all eight seasons as they were coming out and ohhhhh boy was that interesting to experience. There is so much TGM drama it's insane, but I won't go too far into it here <3

WELL, if you haven’t seen me in the brownstone server… i am a massive directioner

this fandom was fuckin chaos, dude. portions were terrible to member’s girlfriends, were very very pushy about the larry stylinson agenda, and of course, so so much rpf

but yeah i absolutely love them, they p much consumed my life for a few years and even if im not active in the fandom anymore, i still love to draw them now and again! and the fandom was so fucking lovely <3 i met so many amazing ppl. And it motivated me so much lmfao like i made so many comics and illustrations and even an animatic, i went fully ham, im grateful tho cus i learned so much 😂 heres some of my fave pieces i did!

Sleepover game! Would you rather: RWRB sequel edition

Would you rather have a book sequel that is:

Focused on another character from the book (like they do with a lot of romance novels now)

Or

Focused on Alex and Henry in the years after the events of the first book

if im honest, henry/alex. like, i know we got a glimpse in the collectors edition henry chapter? but thats what it is, a glimpse. and esp w how different it is for them to navigate when theyre actually continually close to one another as opposed to a few days maximum (even if this is mentioned in the bonus ch too), and the trauma and everything that came with the leak, i think its absolutely intriguing to see how they navigated all that, because im certain it would impose a lot of difficulties.

(though i gotta say that it were to be another char, i would want a pez one, because that would be interesting as heck. pez does not live a normal life after all)

Not to take the easy way out but all of you. Anyone I've ever interacted with (and some I haven't!). I see your names. I see you reblogging snd commenting snd making me cry in all the good ways. There are so many talented people on here that I get to interact with both on Tumblr and off that I couldn't list them all.

But if you're making me be hyperspecific, I would have to say @astoryisaloveaffair

who came into my life from the start of my Tumblr journey and is the reason I am writing today. Her friendly, loving bullying got me to Write The Thing and Post the Thing. She also came into my life at a time I really needed her and I don't think she really realizes how much she means to me.

I also have to include the amazingly talented @wyn-n-tonic. Her writing and conversations have inspired my writing in so many ways and I've changed (for the better I hope) because of her just being her. Who knew that sending gifs/pics of Dave York and Benny would spiral into an actual friendship? I'm honestly shocked every day that she continues to support my nonsense and hasn't run for the hills yet 🤣

If you had to adapt FirstPrince to any iconic rom-com movie, what would you pick and which characters go where, including side characters?

Oooooooh this is such a good question!!

Okay, so I wouldn’t say it’s considered ‘iconic’ but my sisters and I loved it so I’m going with it.

Bride Wars (THIS MOVIE SHOULD HAVE ENDED WITH THE TWO BRIDES GETTING MARRIED AND I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL!!!

Alex is Olivia (Kate Hudson’s character, she’s a lawyer so it’s perfect!)

Henry is Emma (Anne Hathaway’s character, she’s a teacher and I think that’s kinda perfect)

Pez is the famous wedding planner that is TOTALLY playing matchmaker (high key has sneaky vibes in the movie and they should have just made that a thing in the first place)

Hunter is Alex’s coworker that gets roped into being Man of Honor (he would totally fuck up the reconciliation moment at the end 😒)

Plot wise it would follow the movie pretty closely, except for the way it ends. When Alex tackles Henry, naturally it needs to be into a cake (not how it happens in that scene in the movie, but I must!) then they’ll both end up dumping their fiancées and getting married.
