My Fucking Surprise when Daisuke shows up to Okame's room in book 3 with a bottle of sake. the night before the climax. and MIND YOU the ONLY kind of intimacy shown in this series is between Yumeko and Tatsumi SOMETIMES bc like they're the main pairing but DAISUKAME???? AND THEN THEY KISS??????? AND THEY SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER??????????????

the two scenes directly following them meeting okame are so funny i laugh every time i get to yumeko asking tatsumi if he’s going to string sweet potatoes around okame’s ears so squirrels crawl all over him and tatsumi literally goes “...no.” after he considers it.

then when tatsumi’s first response to okame getting them lost is to literally try to behead him like,,, we love one antisocial boy

i think what i love most about yumeko from shadow of the fox is that she’s not a warrior in any sense and idk i love that she relies on her companions to help her most of the time and that she does have true talent that helps them more than enough times, but like she doesn’t have to be the one to rise up beyond expectations to defeat someone. like tatsumi can go and say let me be your strength and yumeko’s role doesn’t have to be a badass girl who gives everything up to be that fierce fighter. she fights in her own way and i!!! don’t know where i’m going with this but i just thought about how much i loved the idea of a non-warrior protag

don’t get me wrong tho yumeko is so strong and i love her so much and how brave she is. but i love that she can be brave in different ways that don’t involve hefting a sword and that sort of strength
