pio im sorry but the six balls name joke bothers me. the fact that its that demons are considered to have stupid names if they're lower class or han style names (sha hualing) or titles if they are upper class/ want to appear that way, while being coded as not han chinese feels racist. i just thought you would want to know about this sort of thing.
I can see how you feel that way! It's an understandable thing to be uncomfortable with at first blush. Though honestly I don't really agree-- everyone has stupid names in sv, it's just that six balls is directly translated in English translations while the others remain in pinyin. So you don't immediately clock that shang qinghua's name is a pun that just means Went to Tsinghua University when you say it outloud or that binghe's name is (dropped in an) Icy River or that sha hualing literally translated is just gauze and bells (basically describing her outfit). It's pretty consistent throughout the whole book that every character is named lazily and over literally, less as an indication of their character traits and more as a commentary on how many artists (sqh) tend to suck at naming their OCs imo.
Take the romanized names: Luo Binghe, Shang Qinghua, Sha Hualing, Liu Geqiu
vs some overly literal translated names: dropped in an icy river, went to harvard, ribbons & bells, six balls
The reason why six balls is the only character that gets this treatment is I assume because the singular scene he's in is entirely dependent on the reader understanding what his name means for the joke to work, but pretty much every character could be swapped in to make a fun literal translated name if the situation needed it

Your wording confused me. Is there something wrong with canon Asian Lois? That's mainly the context I see "reclaim" in
Yup, I meant what I said! Though of the Asian Lois-es I know of:
Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story features a Japanese Lois, and is 10/10 very good! Everything I could ask for in a reimagining of how being Asian American can inform her character!!
Superman: American Alien features an Asian (? they don't specify) Lois, and she's okay. She's just kinda there.
My Adventures with Superman features a Korean Lois, and it's terrible! It's the most surface level reimagining to the point it's offensive. It feels like a commodified aesthetic change more than anything of actual substance.
So yes it's time to reclaim Asian Lois again :)

i'm in the early stages of researching and writing a book about southeast asian natural dye traditions that will also function as a practical guide for modern dyers wanting to work within southeast asian dye traditions to try to preserve that cultural, land-based knowledge - esp in the face of ecological disaster that is already hitting southeast asia hard
idk how long it'll take me but it's going to be my focus during my residency in msia next year and probably my honours thesis when the time comes; it's going to be a long project lol. i really want to focus on meeting with craftspeople and artisans in seasia, talking with and learning from them directly if i can, going to villages where people still do this work. so i'll have to apply for funding for that, and for other parts of this too. but it's exciting, both because it's an area of research and study that is simultaneously important and undervalued, but also because its deeply personal and something that matters to me a lot on an emotional level. so i'm looking forward to this adventure and seeing where it takes me over the years

i know i’m sounding like a broken record here but like. it really frustrates me more and more that east asians, at least in my experience, are continuously centered even in ostensibly pan-asian circles. it’s Understandable to me, but like. idk.

my hc is that the harmonic nebula (where musa is from in the 4kids dub) is like a little galaxy of music-themed planets/realms. like melody, sonata, rhythm, tempo, symphony would all be realms within the harmonic nebula

reintroducing: ayush dahiya
has there ever been a sweeter deal than this? ayush dahiya (josh heuston) doesn't think so. he gets to travel around with his girlfriend - his soulmate - omisha kaushal. they get to tag team ghosts and monsters. they get to help the dying. they understand dead. they understand it'll never touch them so long as they remain dharmadutas - so long as they remain in the service of dharmadeva zaman.
truth be told, he hated it at first. the ghosts and monsters were annoying, but not half as annoying as the people who'd died and whose souls he was supposed to escort to dharmadeva's abode. always whining and whinging. yammering about how they're shouldn't be dead, about how it's a mistake. he'd only joined upon his mom's insistence that he should actually do something with his life.
after all, his mom (vidya balan) made it quite clear that he couldn't hide forever behind the near death experience that shaped his youth and allowed him to see spirits and sense prana.
then he ran into vena zaman (santhosh sreeram) - the only son of sunita and only grandson of dharmadeva, and no one's saying nepotism out loud but they're all thinking it; ayush was thinking it, at the very least, because vena spent an awful lot of time on earth, with the living - who told him in no uncertain terms that his abilities would be sealed away and that he'd be kicked out, if not killed outright, if he didn't get his act together.
in order to get some assurance that ayush would, in fact, get his act together, vena assigned ayush a partner.
that partner had been omisha kaushal (ashley ganger) - a spitfire of a girl whose loyalty to dharmadeva and her fellow dharmadutas far outshone his own.
though that is not to say that she didn't know how to have any fun. ayush can personally attest that omisha does, in fact, know how to party.
anyway, it had been everything at first sight for these two: love, lust, loathing.
and vena's plan had worked. ayush got his act together and he and omisha have been a team ever since. and sure, omisha is very possessive but it's actually kinda hot, and hey. it's nice to be wanted. and the sex is mindblowing.
if asked, ayush would say that things were good until they weren't and, honestly, he blames the little planet hopping dvarapala for it. udyati rao (maitreyi ramakrishnan) didn't have to antagonize kalindi zaman (aishwarya rai). she didn't have to swear a vachan - a verbal vow with physical consequences if not fulfilled - but she did it anyway. and now she can't even tell them why she swore that vow in the first place!
shame, that.
it sent vena spiraling. it almost cost him his relationship.
in another life, he might've called her a friend.
in this life, he calls her an enemy.
