Hey there! Glad you enjoyed the post!

Okay, so I realised that post would be more clearer if you had exhausted almost every possible line of dialogue or notes from Raphael and know about some of existing D&D lore. So, my bad on that part.

We know about Raphael's ambitions and primary goals through his dialogue in Sharess' Caress and the epilogue. This would be The Crown. We know he has been coveting this for a very long time. As to how we know why this is so important for Raphael because he tells you The Crown has immense power. If you know about how the hells and the devils work with their system and hierarchy, having power = more standing = more freedom (as in freedom to do whatever you please). Raphael tells us that he has been at this for 1000 years. I see those failures being the Crown being stolen away by his father first and then by a soul who was supposed to be under Raphael's charge (this is Gortash). Beyond that, basically him obsessing over the Crown and not being able to find a way to gain it ONLY UNTIL Tav and co comes along (along with The Dead Three bringing the Crown back in play) can also be seen as a failure of sorts, because he STILL had to wait for fate to play its part, so this was still beyond his agency. His diary entries also give a really good insight into how much this goal has plagued him for a long time.

As for his inception, cambions are seen as a result from an unholy communion. That's not really the problem per say, but rather who is involved that makes the cambions. In Raphael's case, he is more powerful and noteworthy from most typical cambions because his devil half is from an archdevil, Mephistopheles. His other half though is a mortal human, which is not looked upon fondly. Raphael's unique position however (being practically a prince and heir to the most powerful devil besides Asmodeus) is trumped over by his situation and circumstance of being Mephistopheles' son. Mephisto, in the case of Raphael, does not treat his kin highly. In fact it seems he acts as if he does not exist. On top of all this, devils in the hells climb up the hierarchical ladder to become more powerful. Raphael if he were just a plain devil would have a better time doing so. So not only is he stopgapped by his own father despite being of the blood of an archdevil, he is also held back by his other half of being a mortal. It's a very unique predicament and it's completely out of Raphael's hands... UNLESS he can find the means to get out of it himself. Thus, power = more freedom. He plans to become Archdevil Supreme so that he doesn't have to answer to ANYONE. Besides that, he wants to instill more order and control in the Hells by uniting it under one banner and end the Blood War. There are MANY things to go over why this is insane, but that's another topic for another day.

Hopefully, this clears things up a bit! It always is much clearer in my head to explain until I lay it out in text and realise, "oh god i need to provide so much context", so sometimes details get lost in translation. 😅

Israel suffers its biggest defeat since the beginning of the war and is forced to accept negotiations with Hamas

Updates on the Al-Aqsa Flood operation presented in this episode of Samri Channel. For his part, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qudra, said, “The Israeli army informed us that it would storm Al-Shifa Hospital within minutes.” Al-Qudra added that there were bombings and clashes in the vicinity of the hospital. In turn, Palestinian Health Minister Mai Al-Kaila explained that the Israeli army is surrounding Al-Shifa Hospital with tanks.

It is noteworthy that thousands of civilians are still stranded in the main Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip, while it is deprived of water and electricity and where doctors were forced to bury dozens of bodies in a mass grave, according to its director. The hospital includes thousands of Palestinian patients, medical staff, and civilians displaced as a result of the war raging since last October 7. While Israel says that Hamas has a command center under the Shifa complex, and uses the hospital and the tunnels under it for military operations and hostage-taking, Hamas denies this.

Former Israeli Mossad chief Danny Yatom said in a televised statement that Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip must be destroyed, because it is a human shield for the positions of the Palestinian resistance leadership. Yatom added, during an interview on Israeli Channel 13, that Israel must destroy the hospital and continue digging down with bombs. Because if Tel Aviv's intelligence information is correct, this will give it the ability to crush the resistance leadership that is behind the terrible campaign currently being waged, in reference to the Al-Aqsa Flood operation that the resistance factions began about ten days ago.

Those who have Sei Ki will be able to master techniques that do not rely on power or anger but on wits, talent and skill. Sei users will be more likely to come up with new inventive solutions in combat and will frequently have moments of insight that may turn an unwinnable battle in their favor.

[UNARMED] Martial artists who choose the path of unarmed combat will seek to turn their own bodies into weapons and tools of martial arts. Prepared for any encounter at any time, these masters will likely be slightly less effective in combat than weapons users, but will never have a decrease in effectiveness as a result of losing their weapon. Whenever you fight unarmed you will find that you consistently deal more damage and are more accurate with your strikes than if you held a weapon.

[PENCAK SILAT] Developed in Indonesia, this martial art features techniques allowing the user to react from nearly all natural body positions (sitting, standing, lying down etc.) It is specially adapted to use in naturalistic environments such as jungles. This allows the user to fight much more easily in these environments, using the terrain to their advantage. It is both an armed and unarmed style.

PERKS

[HIDDEN WEAPONS] Let's face it, you’re a dirty fighter. Unlike the martial artists who spend years of their lives training you have opted for the simpler path: Hidden weapons. You are easily able to hide numerous weapons, data storage devices, tools and even musical instruments on your person at any given time, as long as they could normally be hidden on a human body. For each article of clothing you wear you are able to hide at least two such objects on your person without any chance of them being detected. Even without clothing you may still hide at least two other objects on your person (do not ask where you are keeping them). The only way to fully disarm you is to strip you down naked and have at least three independent observers engage in a detailed simultaneous cavity search.

[PROBING EYE] You have inherited the powers of a certain alien in a devil's mask. Through a concentrated effort of observation and keen detailing of physical characteristics, you can determine an individual’s true personality, notable traits, dietary preferences, recent activities, most noteworthy skills and favored fighting style. The longer you observe someone the more information you will glean, but there is no guarantee that it will be wholly useful.

[ANIMALISTIC INCORPORATION] As a delinquent you are less bound to the hard and fast rules of traditional martial arts styles. Using animals you have observed as an inspiration, you are able to incorporate their naturalistic movements into your style. While you will not have the strength of the animals observed, your motions will be more efficient through mimicking them, and new techniques may be derived from their actions (i.e. incorporating the movement of cats would make a martial art more acrobatic, while incorporating the movements of a mantis would add sudden precise strikes to it repertoire).

[ETIQUETTE] You are instinctively knowledgeable about the etiquette and deference that must be shown in any martial art or martial culture. You are aware of faux pas or mild signs of disrespect and will subconsciously avoid making them. You know how to show respect as well as where and when it is best to show it without being considered a sycophant or rude. So long as the culture is rooted in combat and discipline, you will never offend someone unless you actively seek to do so.

[SPEED AND AGILITY] You are fast. VERY fast. You have trained and continue to train in techniques that will allow you to move at incredible speed with great agility. You will be able to run as fast as automobiles and with training these speeds will increase in time. You are also physically coordinated enough to engage in olympic level gymnastics with ease, and by extension move with the seemingly effortless grace of a top tier ballerina.

[PERCEPTION AND AWARENESS] You are a highly perceptive individual with senses that are above and beyond peak human. Your eyesight is likely at least 20/15 and you can easily hear a whispered conversation across a crowded room. You also gain greater situational awareness of your surroundings, passively taking in minute data that will let you more easily determine what will come next and may forewarn you of ambushes, traps or impending disasters. While not perfect it will be much harder to surprise or sneak up on you.

[ENHANCED KI] Some have ki. You have KI. You can feel it in you and channel it more easily, enhancing the normal effects of Sei and Dou ki to a much greater degree. Perhaps upon reaching the status of a master you may project your ki beyond your body, achieving techniques that can only be described as supernatural in nature. This perk stacks with any boost to ki, chi, aura or other general body-based energy field you may have.

[“SWORD”] You receive a “sword”. Not necessarily a literal sword; rather a tool that you carry into battle and which you place your heart, soul and trust in. While rather small and not augmenting your strikes in any meaningful way, they seem to grow alongside you, inexplicably becoming more durable and fitting your body better as you increase in skill and mastery. At the beginning of your journey they will function as normal but well made metal guards. By the time you reach master status, these guards will not impede your movements in any way and you will be able to block wrecking balls or tank shells without any damage to yourself. Their durability will also increase to the point where virtually nothing short of superheated plasma will be capable of damaging them. If you selected weapon however, you receive your choice of melee weapon. It acts and functions as though it were created using the “Secret of Steel” making it more durable than most weapons formed using modern metallurgic techniques. As you grow in skill the weapon will as well, allowing you to hit slightly harder, swing slightly faster and strike with greater accuracy than you would with any other mundane weapon. By the time you have reached master status, you will be able to use this weapon with robotic precision, able to cut or break through a modern tank. Of course without this weapon you will be unable to do nearly half of those things, but that is the price paid when one embarks on the path of weapons. You may instead choose an existing weapon you have to receive this benefits, but it must be compatible with your martial art.

[DATA BOOK] You possess a small book (or PDA or cellphone or other such storage device). It instantly organizes and records any and all information you have obtained on a person that you have personally met. No one but you and those you allow to read it may view the information within making it excellent for keeping track of secret sensitive information.

[HEADQUARTERS] You have a base of operations wherein your loyal minions may congregate. Usually it takes the form of a decrepit office building or the like, but a world appropriate version of it will appear in whatever world you arrive in. It comes with basic utilities and is both tax and amenities free (as there is no indication that it exists in public records). It can easily house upwards of fifty dedicated employees at a given time. It is still rather sparse and only as defensible as the average office building but no one will question your ownership of it or seek to take it for themselves. [LOVELESS] Who knew continually practicing martial arts everyday could make everyone so attractive? Sadly any and all true intimacy will be denied to you. You will never achieve a state of mutual affection with anybody and any and all attempts at romance or acts of physical intimacy are utterly doomed to failure. You’re better off surely though right? Scientists have reported that the Brazilian golden lion tamarin, once on the brink of extinction, has successfully recovered from the threat of yellow fever.

A recent study reveals that the population of golden lion tamarins in the Brazilian rainforest is currently higher than ever before since conservation efforts began in the 1970s.

Despite this positive news, Luís Paulo Ferraz of the Golden Lion Tamarin Association expressed concerns about the potential resurgence of illegal pet trade, which was rampant in the 1960s but has significantly diminished over the decades due to law enforcement efforts. In July, the non-profit organization Freeland Brazil reported that the Surinamese forestry department seized 7 golden lion tamarins and 29 critically endangered hyacinth macaws, believed to have been trafficked from Brazil to Europe.

The film "Shake Hands with the Devil" is a powerful narrative, despite its flaws, in the realm of cinematic storytelling. It is a powerful question, emphasizing the existential crisis that Dallaire is experiencing after witnessing atrocities, making the audience somewhat more aware of the seriousness of the crisis. However, the effectiveness of this technique is somewhat undermined by the film's focus on Dallaire to the exclusion of the Rwandan victims. While it highlights Dallaire's internal struggle, it also distances the audience from the actual victims of the genocide.

The film's top-down viewpoint is another noteworthy technique that made me more engaged in the movie. This perspective places the audience in the position of an observer, viewing the events from a distance. This approach effectively conveys the bureaucratic and political complexities of the situation, as seen through the eyes of Dallaire and the UN. However, this technique also contributes to the film's main flaw: the distancing of the audience from the Rwandan victims. As if we're looking at genocide through a telescope, we can see it, but not feel it. All the focus on the UN's failures and the political bungling during the genocide, the film minimizes its true horrors.

Furthermore, the film uses a brown-bleached colour scheme to match Dallaire's beige camouflage. However, the film's detached viewpoint is also reinforced by the choice of colour palette, which highlights the military and bureaucratic aspects of the narrative. The film has a lot to offer, and It's got a powerful message, but its focus on Dallaire and the UN dilutes that message.

All together, "Shake Hands with the Devil" is a film that utilizes various film techniques to convey a powerful narrative about the Rwandan genocide. Nevertheless, I believe the film's top-down viewpoint and focus on Dallaire and the UN undermines the effectiveness of these techniques. As a result, the audience is somewhat distanced from those who suffered the genocide, which makes the movie lose some effectiveness in conveying its real message. Despite these flaws, I still believe the film remains a potent critique of the failures of the international community in the face of such atrocities and is an important movie about the Rwandan genocide. The message, which continues to apply in today's global political landscape, is one of the devastating consequences of inaction and political bungling.

"Shake Hands with the Devil" is a film that's worth watching, but it's also a film that could have been so much more. It's a film that's got a lot to say, but it doesn't always know how to say it. because i’m getting shit for my statement the other day, that i think i know what authenticity is—i decided to take this to show it to myself as well as be open with all of you. transparency has always been paramount to me, even if no one truly gives a shit.

Which three people have had the greatest positive impact on your life? How did they inspire you?

My paternal grandfather, my maternal grandmother, and my dad’s sister (my aunt)

My grandpa was scientifically minded—he had his doctorate in nuclear science and mathematics, but he was also an artist and he was keen on expanding his horizons all the way up to his illness and subsequent death.

My grandma was very intelligent and well-read, and she was one of those people who didn’t give a shit what other people said (the prime example of the “geezer paradox”, you reach a certain age where you give up trying to look cool and you end up becoming very cool as a result)

And my aunt Chris is not only a stage actress and greatly dedicated to her craft even know in her 70s, but she was also a teacher for years. Another example of intelligence refining you and making you very cool as a result.

What three things bring the most happiness into your life?

I like to be a very creative person. I also don’t really like to be trapped in a single lane for very long because I get bored and I feel myself withering: I want to be curious to the day I die. I also like to show off my sexuality.

What three things do you like most about yourself?

This was the last thing I answered because I didn’t know. I still don’t know. I’m nothing to write home about.

What three things would you most like to change about yourself?

I wish I was more spontaneous—I wish I could relax more.

I wish I wasn’t so impulsive—I think that has put me in a losing position more than anything.

I can’t really explain it but I genuinely believe my sexuality is hurting me at times: I feel like expressing myself that way and it brings me more pain than pleasure (and I get promised pleasure, too: “lean into it and you’ll feel joy forever”, I didn’t get the memo, I guess).

What three accomplishments are you the proudest of?

My art has been seen by the likes of people from Chris Cornell to Mike McCready to Joey Belladonna and Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson, the Butcher Babies, Jeff Becerra… I get acknowledgments from people like Glenn Hughes and Debbie Harry (usually out of the blue, too, like I’ll see the notification on my iPad screen and go “…what.”).

I have my two-year degree in general art.

I made a webcomic (unfinished, but I did it nevertheless).

I’ve written and published stories of all shapes and sizes—a total of 126 works on my ao3.

I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything, though. It’s not like I bought a house or landed a cushy pencil pushing job. I have no titles to my name. I’m no one special or noteworthy. I genuinely feel like I haven’t a difference, at all.

What three outcomes do you regret the most and what would you do differently now?

I wish I stood up to bullies better than just doing what I do now and that’s relentlessly go after them. I got bullied a lot and I never knew what to do (no, i don’t think for one second that “just ignoring them” does anything).

Going to school—there’s a part of me that completely regrets the whole thing, like I should have just moved to Oregon and not even bothered with it.

I wish I got away from my family sooner, especially my brother.

What parts of your life don’t feel authentic to you?

I feel like there’s so much more I could do with my art, like stylistically speaking (my dad will tell you I shouldn’t be drawing musicians so much, when I very obviously have gone beyond that—i draw what I love)

I feel like I could have kept going with my degree, but I couldn’t.

What five core values guide you in day-to-day life?

Spontaneity, creativity, love, self-expression, knowledge

In what ways are you living - or not living - your core values?

I really don’t know how to be spontaneous—I feel like I bore everyone.

I don’t feel creative.

I look at the way I love on another person and I think “god, what is wrong with me, why can’t I crush on someone else normally”

The way I express myself has gotten me in far more trouble than actually given me anything noteworthy.

And I get the impression people don’t take my level of knowledge very seriously because I just have a two-year degree with no prospects after I had been promised just the opposite.

(I’m starting to hate this because it’s getting too depressing)

How would you benefit from living a more authentic life?

I wouldn’t. I got this far being genuinely me and look at what’s happened to me. Authenticity has given me nothing. I don’t feel proud of anything i’ve done. I have nothing to brag about. I tried being confident and it hasn’t gotten anywhere, either, except a rouse of laughter and the feeling of humiliation.

What fears or other constraints keep you from living a more authentic life?

I am authentic and it has gotten me nowhere except a sense of isolation, too much patronization, gotten me screamed at, laughed at, looked at funny, and mocked to no end. No one likes the real me.

What would you need to change to live a more authentic life?

I wish I could dye a sliver of my hair a shocking color like bright red or green or lavender. It was something I wanted to do when I was in high school, just take a couple of strands of my hair and dye it a real bright color. Everyone I knew talked me out of it. Everyone.

I don’t think confidence will help—believe me, I tried it. All that did was leave me with my pants down. Confidence is for the select few, and i’m not one of them.

What does your ideal day look like? How is it different from the life you’re living now?

First of all, I’m far away from this house and this area—I never want to be in this area or live high in the mountains EVER again.

I’d like to be up before sunrise for a bike ride (I miss riding my bike regularly). I’ll stop somewhere by the time the sun comes up for some coffee.

I’d like to have a place where I can not only have privacy and keep my drawing desk at, but a room where I can do metalwork and glass work again, a place to create with my hands.

I want to be in a place where I can just walk or take my bike to on a regular basis—I am so done with this “set aside a whole day just to get into town” horse shit.

I want to live in a place that I genuinely feel proud to say that I live here. I don’t say my town name not just out of protection to myself and my identity but because I truly have no affection for this area.

And I want to be in a place where I can garden again: this is no man’s land for gardening, as far as decent produce goes.

I like to flirt with guys I like, and I like the intimacy that a site like Instagram gives me for it, too. My sexuality is very much a cornerstone of my art and my writing (maybe that’s why my writing sucks so much).

What steps would you take to make every day look more like your ideal day?

The more time passes, the more I feel like the ideal place to live is all a pipe dream. It feels so out of my reach and I don’t know how to make it happen. I feel like I’m going to be stuck here forever, like I’m going to die in this shithole.

I think my flirting is all in vain (re: I hate the way I love).

I don’t know how to fix any of this, and without feeling the need to lash out at those who have hurt me, either. I always get told that “oh, we’re just looking out for you” or criticism out the ass when I talk about dyeing my hair or wanting to wear low-rise jeans—IT’S JUST A PAIR OF FUCKING JEANS!! Jesus Christ, no one is fucking saying you have to wear them and that doesn’t give you the right to criticize me for wanting to wear something I know will look better on my hips than this high-rise bullshit. Who’s going to hear this, though?

Which of your thoughts and actions are driven mostly by the fear of negative consequences?

Anything I have an opinion on, really. I don’t believe anyone hears me, for one thing—and when someone does, they want to trash or patronize me for it. My opinion doesn’t matter, and I don’t, either.

Which of your thoughts and actions are driven mostly by the desire for happiness?

Any time I make erotic art: I feel the pleasure at the core, but I overthink these things after the fact, though.

I see this shit all the time, too: “get out of your head to feel the pleasure”. Bitch, I am very much in my body when I draw a naked boy. But when I think about posting it, that’s where I cringe so hard.

What steps can you take to reduce fear and increase happiness?

What are you the most excited about in your life right now?

Maybe relaxing more? When I do in fact allot plenty of time to relax and shut off my brain. I have no idea tbh.

I really want to say “begin the process of moving away” but it all feels so beyond my reach.

It’s left me more alone probably more than anything. Why would I feel proud of this? I hate that I feel like I can’t talk to people. I have no one to blame but myself for it. I spoke out about what was going on and I paid for it so much to the point I nearly took my own life.

And no, I don’t think for one minute that speaking my mind will dig me out, either. Speaking my mind has never got me anywhere than this corner here. “Be proud! You spoke the truth!” Fanfic writers hate me and no one wants to read my fics because of what i’ve done. Be proud? W h a t?

Over the next six months, what obstacles might get in the way of leading a happy and fulfilling life?

My mom’s over 50 and they tell you to get screened for the big C (no, THAT C, not the ‘rona), and I legit worry about a test coming back positive.

I worry about a guy like Alex (my main crush) suffering a heart attack or dying from something horrible like the ‘rona or a plane crash.

My reputation in the art world—acknowledgements aside, I’m a nobody. There’s no way around it: I’m a flighty weirdo with a bizarre style that is very polarizing and I don’t ever see catching on or getting any further than it is now. Catch on? Why would it ever do that?

How do you see your life being different 12 months from now?

I don’t even see myself alive 12 months from now. Genuine happiness is so enigmatic and elusive to me. It gets everyone else, but it misses me for some reason. I am starting to not see the point if all I get is abuse or made fun of. No one likes the real me and a “real job” is completely out of the question. I may as well be dead.

What steps do you need to take to make changes “stick” in your life?

Well, there’s nothing in this area holding me back save for having the right amount of money just to leave, so that’s one thing: I know for a fact that once I’m gone from here, I’m never coming back. I was ready to leave last spring when my stepdad passed.

Anything else? I don’t know.

What are the three most surprising things you've discovered about yourself after answering these questions?

I’m more depressed than I realized (maybe my dad is right and I am an alcoholic even though the taste of alcohol makes me nauseous).

Even as violent as a pair of stories like cold embrace and eerie inhabitants are, I have a very gentle personality.

Everyone is happy. I’m surrounded by phony assholes. It should come as no surprise that I think authenticity is a lie.

Bonus: contrary to what you might think of me, I do know how to self-love, but I can’t stop my mind, though. It’s a constant war of mind and body with me.

What are the three most important things you need to remember as you begin this journey?

I have never been more turned off by the phrase “be yourself” in my life than I do right now.

Wag more, bark less.

Because I still don’t forgive cardan for not doing anything to help her? Like she was drugged, humiliated and like kinda sexually assaulted?! And he participated?! I dunno I still kinda hate him for that but I really want to know your thoughts, maybe I missed something...

okay a couple things: first, i have absolutely no interest in starting discourse on this subject. if you agree with me, great! you're welcome on this post. if you don't, keep it pushin this is not the ask for you. second, these are fictional characters. they don't have real feelings but people on the other end of blogs do. be gentle with one another please.

CW: DISCUSSIONS OF ABUSE AND ASSAULT.

I. In Defence of Cardan- motives, intent, tragic past, blah blah blah

i'm not really in the business of defending villains because 1) they don't need to be saved (that's the great thing about them) and 2) it's not my job to make everyone like them. but Cardan is a special case where i feel, if you approach what he did with only the outcome in mind instead of an attempt at understanding all of the pieces at play, you're going to hate him.

so let's clear the air.

i think it's an overstatement to say that he participated. participation is an active word, whereas what Cardan did, i see as more of a passive involvement. did he stop what was happening? no.

but he did stop Valerian from suffocating Jude. he did intervene when Nicasia told her to crawl to them (he told Jude to kiss his foot, but that was likely to save her from being further assaulted while under the influence). he did prick her finger so that she could sober up enough to protect herself while being alone in the woods with Locke.

in other words: he de-escalated the situation, but only when things started getting too dicey.

does he get brownie points for this? hell no. he still has A Lot of work to do to earn ours and Jude's trust at that point.

but in my opinion, he reacted to the situation in the only way he could while maintaining two important things (to him): the status quo and his control of the outcome. the former is selfish, but then again Cardan never claimed to be selfless. the latter is noteworthy because Cardan knew that what Nicasia, Valerian, or Locke could do to Jude would be so much worse than a bit of embarrassment at his hand. they were willing to go further. he wasn't.

what's more, if you've read HTKOELTHS, you'll know that Cardan feels helpless for a lot of his life. only wine and cruelty help control those uncomfortable feelings. why would he sacrifice that security for someone he doesn't really know, who has also made it a point to be a constant "thorn of iron" in his side?

II. Cardan Is Like.... Not A Good Dude?

i've said this before on here but i guess i should say it louder for people in the back: Cardan is not a Good Person! this isn't a story about a hero defeating the villain and claiming her morally pure love interest. this is a story about, to put it bluntly, a bunch of fucked up people doing really fucked up things either because they feel they have to or because they want to. and yes! it's fucked up. that's the point.

so Cardan didn't stop what was happening in the faerie fruit scene, but if he's not a Good Person, why would he have reason to?

apart from the fact that humans are always treated poorly in faerie, Jude is Madoc's treasured daughter. Jude is a human afforded all the luxuries of one of the fae Gentry, all because someone loved her enough to give her that, not because she had any right or entitlement to it. i see a lot of jealousy from Cardan in TCP, and this is one of the most obvious instances.

it's also heavily implied that Balekin, infamous mortal abuser, would beat Cardan as a result of Jude (a mortal) besting him. was this Jude's fault? absolutely, unequivocally NO. but it's easy to see how, if Cardan could not lash out at Balekin for beating him, the next best option would be to make Jude experience even a tiny fraction of what he felt she'd caused.

to Cardan, Jude doesn't know helplessness (even though we know that to be untrue). and i'll bet there was a part of him that, after months of not being able to get her out of his head, relished seeing her suffer a little at his hand.

III. Should We Forgive Him? (hint: it's about The Growth)

forgiveness is a very personal thing, and something not everyone can afford to give. but also, i don't believe forgiveness should be the main objective for moving past wrongdoings.

understanding is a much more achievable goal that gifts all parties, witness or involved, with a certain boon of distance. if we can understand why someone did a thing, we can better realise empathy for them without feeling the need to coddle their emotions—and without them feeling the need to further atone.

and if, at the end of all of this, you still cannot understand Cardan in this scene, then i will not be able to sway you.

either you're the kind of person that holds every action someone makes that you disagree with against them forever, or you're the kind of person that recognises personal reflection and development as a positive character trait that can outweigh past cruel actions, if the proper effort is put in.

for me, Cardan's efforts throughout the rest of the series proved enough to earn my trust. it's the Growth, your honours. it was very sexy.
