Girl, I just listened to "Introduction (1936)" by Shanghai Restoration Project and it is totally your theme song. But a theme song is not the same thing as an anthem. WHAT IS YOUR ANTHEM?
WHAT IS YOURS

So, hey. How did you and your family celebrate Passover when you were a kid? How about now?
My Rhode Island aunt and uncle almost always hosted a big family Seder, and it was the absolute best. A good Seder is educational, food-filled, and legit fun—it's a ritual meal that includes storytelling, singing, prayers, and a general focus on including and teaching everyone involved, regardless of age or even whether attendees are Jewish. (If ever you're invited to a friend's Seder, go! Do not bring a challah, which my actually-bar-mitzvahed brother-in-law did once as an attempt at a thoughtful host gift. We still make fun of him.)
And my uncle (the same one who officiated at my wedding, and the wedding of my other sister) may well be the greatest host/leader there is; over the years he compiled from a medley of sources what added up to his own Haggadah (basically the guidebook to the Seder—there are a million published and informal versions working off the same template, with readings and activities and interpretations that can go kid-centric or feminist or traditional or whatever). It was always just insanely fun, and warm, and joyous, with incredible food and an increasing array of baked-in, just-us traditions.
Since I went to college basically down the street from their house, and then lived just an hour away in Boston for so long, that was pretty much the heart of my and my family's celebration most years—right up until Passover 2020, at which point the pandemic negated what had been plans to travel from our new home in Illinois for it, and they also downsized and had their own kids scatter geographically and gain very little ones, so that particular tradition is at best on hiatus now.
But there are fun Seders everywhere—well, the Zoom ones of the pandemic years were a mixed bag, but we've found friends who've make a good go of it, over the years, too, if not quite as an elaborately planned out hourslong celebration as my uncle would do. When I studied abroad in Denmark, Boyfriend and I went to an Orthodox Seder that was in a mix of Danish and Hebrew, for instance—that was novel, and so much of the procedure and the Hebrew was familiar enough to follow along.
Still working on exactly where we'll be for those two nights this year (we haven't really met any Jewish families in Pittsburgh yet to garner an invite, and none of the Reform or Conservative synagogues seem to have community events, which is surprising? And I don't really want to go to Chabad?) but we'll figure something out.
That said, as fun as the Seders can and should be, the rest of Passover is a slog of not eating bread or adjacent products, and experiencing whatever it is matzah does to one's digestive system over the course of a week. It's a meaningful observance, and the fact that the relevant rabbinical boards have stopped including rice and legumes in the "no" column in recent years has been great, but...it's ultimately a holiday recalling the story of the Exodus, and how we were slaves once, so, like, there are some less-fun elements. But the freedom celebration parts usually outweigh that!

From an ask game you posted some time ago: favorite tv commercial?
This BMW commercial
youtube
Because it was iconic; on one hand it was a success for BMW (sales went up), on the other hand it was superpopular, people my age say Be water my friend because of this TV spot not because we knew a lot about Bruce Lee; the creative team behind it was Spanish (not many people know this) and, finally, Bruce Lee's philosophy is on point.

What are your favorite castles? Real or fictional, ones you have visited or not.
The closest I’ve ever been to an actual castle is Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina 😅. So, I can’t say I have a fave but I loved looking at pictures of European castles in history class!
Thank you for the ask 💕

Have you ever tried to emulate an outfit or look you saw on a tv/movie character?
Oh that is a fun question! But the answer is a rather boring: no hahaha. I think it's a fun idea, but I don't think I'm built for it (read: I'm too lazy to go out of my way to look for specific clothes combos + I don't really get inspired by outfits, I guess I'm more of a ~vibe~ kinda person ?), I applaud people who can manage that tbh and look good and have the look™ of a specific character
BUT on a more fun note, a few months ago I realized that I do have pants similar to Helga's from Atlantis SO that's something ? Maybe ?? I am Helga ?? Who knows 👀

How are things going post-move? How many boxes left unpacked? Anything hung on the walls yet? What’s your kitchen like? Said hi to any neighbors?
So far so good! Bébé's new daycare starts Monday, and I think things will feel a lot more normal and relaxed once we're all truly back in our routines and her various grandparents (who have been heroically covering childcare for the last three weeks) clear out.
There ARE some things hung on the walls, but mainly because the previous tenants left a number of nails and hooks behind, most of them in convenient places. The walls are plaster and I've been finding it unexpectedly difficult to hammer new nails in so far, so we're gonna see if the handyman can work some magic there.
The boxes question is complicated because there are some things we're just not planning to unpack, like gardening supplies (our current landladies are responsible for yard upkeep) and clothes and toys and things Bébé has grown out of but that we'd like to hold onto in the eventual event of a younger sibling—not necessarily in this house, though. Fortunately, we have a TON of space and had planned on storing such things, so nothing's feeling cluttered.
The kitchen is a good size and our stuff seems to fit! It hasn't been updated/renovated in a good few decades, so while I think the appliances might be newer, there's no island (an old IKEA table is doing that job) and generally it just needs some zhushing. But it's comfortable and serviceable.
That's been the case with the whole house, really—great for the year or two we intended to live here but not something we'd want to own, or deal with renovating in its entirety.
We've met a few neighbors (including the landladies, a married couple who live around the corner), and every single person has been lovely and welcoming! One next-door neighbor also has a very friendly gigantic black lab puppy, and Phoebe has seemed to enjoy racing him with the fence betwixt. (Benedict is big enough that I actually think she's more comfortable that way.)
Perhaps also of note is that there is a positively aces corner café literally three houses down from us on the main drag! We have all but moved in there as well.

How did you and your family celebrate Easter when you were a kid? How about now? (Assuming you did/do at all.)
Easter is a religious festival, but we never celebrated it. Some members of my family are believers, some aren't, but none of them are specially religious.
An Eastern tradition where I am from is going to the countryside or the beach to fly kites and eat Panquemaos and Monas de pascua. I never fIew a kite (I don't know how) but I did eat lots of panquemaos with lots of chocolate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nowadays I don't do anything special or traditional, I barely eat panquemaos anymore. If possible I travel during the holidays. Last year I visited Granada.
What about you @stpauligirl?

I have read lots of mutual pining Jonsa fics. Or ones where Jon has pined forever and Sansa never gave him a thought. But do you know of any where Sansa has been the one pining and Jon was unaware?
Hey! Sorry for the delay answering this while I was away but this is a good question. Brother's Best Friend is a popular romance trope for a reason and the pining can definitely go any of these three ways, right?
One story that's sticking out in my memory banks is Reach Out with Both Hands by @thewolvescalledmehome which has Younger Sansa crushing on Jon who goes off to be a football star and then comes back home after a career-ending injury. Her crush comes roaring back when he moves into her basement but it takes him a wee bit longer to be emotionally ready for love and the woman right by his side. Love this one!
I'm sure there's some other good fics out there that fit the bill so I'll pop this in the tag and see if anyone wants to reblog with additions.
Thanks for the ask!
