24. Tracing your names together in the sand.

Luke had been crazy busy. Countless hours with the band, late nights in the studio, early morning rehearsals. No time for you.

But he was trying. He called you every second he had, invited you to band practice, laid with his head in your lap as he wrote songs.

It was a pleasant surprise when he suggested you go to the beach for a much needed day off.

Hours were spent running into the crashing waves, dipping your heads under the water, swimming out as far as you could, and letting the waves wash you back closer to shore. 

It was a day you’d have engraved in your memory for decades to come.

You were curled up on the sand, wrapped in your beach towels, and enjoying each other's company. The sun was setting. It was a picture-perfect moment, and of course, you had captured countless pictures already today, both physical and mental ones.

A ways away there was a family building sandcastles together, and your heart fluttered imagining doing that one day with Luke and maybe a kid or two. You were still young, but the idea of spending the rest of your life with him did cross your mind, on multiple occasions.

“We should do that,” you said, pointing down the sand.

“Build sandcastles?” Luke questioned.

“Or something,” you shrugged.

Luke nodded and then smiled, moving away from you to kneel on the partially wet sand. He drew a rather large (and a bit lopsided) heart, presenting it to you.

You gave him a confused look, waiting for him to continue. And so he did, adding ‘Luke + Y/N’ into the middle of the heart.

You giggled and responded by drawing your own heart right next to his. Except in the middle of yours, you had written ‘Y/N loves Luke’.

Luke smiled. “You just had to one-up me huh?” he teased. “I love you too.”
