its so crazy how we as a species went so long world wide without knowing really basic stuff about taking care of ourselves.. like we just had no clue about disease & good nutrition til like mid 19th century its just ridiculous.. i bet all the social dysfunction & wars & persecution back then was caus everyone was running around dehydrated & iodine b12 deficient & drinking from lead cups & their moms drank vino while pregant

Great game tonight! I only fell down a couple times and even got two shots on goal. Now it’s time to drink a protein shake and eat four ice cream sandwiches.

#Turns out bulking can be fun if your 250 surplus doesn’t put you at 4750 #This time I’m going for a 500 surplus and only get 10K–20K steps a day #(Putting me at 2500–3000 depending) #So it’s just a regular amount of food plus enough junk to be a great time but not enough to make you sick #AD plays hockey #AD bulks #(For context as a warehouse man I was getting ~50K steps a day so I was burning more than I could physically keep down)

visited some family friends yesterday before a concert & watched them celebrate the third night of hanukkah which was lovely

the youngest child was enlisted to prep the menorah and she decided to be proactive and remove the built up candle wax from previous nights with a..well, a severed barbie arm. it appears she was gathering the old wax for later use. i did Not laugh because i could tell she was Very focused on doing a thorough job.

"so what are you going to do with the wax you've gathered?"

"i do not know.....but its for later. for me."

"oh , okay."

#kids are precious. idk it warmed my heart & reminded me of myself at that age. i too had a surplus of doll parts and wax. #she was very sad that they didn't have enough food to feed my family & i given they only had jelly donuts left at that point #so to make her a little less sad i had some pomegranate juice and sat with her while she told me about the cat she saw earlier

Made my Bean Dish™ (which has been part of my repertoire for a while) and improvised some sweet-ish saucy pork to go with it

#food #cooking #I don’t have the recipe written up for the pork but I will give one hint #it consists entirely of surplus Bean Dish ingredients except for a splash of red wine and some soy sauce #anyway I highly recommend everybody try this bean recipe immediately it’s so good and so hearty #(i suggest one change to the recipe as written - don’t drain the beans completely; a little extra can juice makes it wetter + creamier)

Today I'm proud of myself for spending $16 on snacks that I definitely could get by without. I think I tend to be too miserly, and I wonder if my quality of life would be better if sometimes I prioritized enjoying food over saving as much as possible in food costs.

I'm also proud of myself for finally throwing out the spinach that had been rotting in the fridge since last year. It was not pleasant but everything was better once I got it out.
