A Takari Celebration!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in 2020, I couldn't have imagined that I could host an event that would inspire so much great Digimon content. What started as a desire to run a Digimon event like so many other great fandom events turned into a great collection of fanfic, fanart, gifs, and so much more! I'm so grateful to everyone who has participated and continued to participate over the years for your unending love and support during these wild years. Even with everything going on outside our computer screens, the turnout has been phenomenal.
Of course, with so many years under this event's belt, it's harder and harder to come up with new and exciting prompts for the event. So, for this year, I compiled all of the prompts from the previous events.
The goal of this? To celebrate the love of Takari that has sustained this event all these years! Feel free to combine prompts as you see fit, or come up with your own!
Gen, speak plainly. What does this mean?
I've made this huge list of prompts as an official/unofficial Takari celebration! Instead of a formal event, I've decided that the entire next YEAR will be the time to celebrate Takari! That means, if you create something in tune with any of these prompts, you have until the next Takari Week event (if we have one for 2024) to create it. Create one bit of content, or many! Or, if you think I'm crazy, none at all! Take the year off, if that's what you need! This is a no pressure situation. Take care of yourself first and foremost.
That was a loooooong-winded explanation of what I was envisioning. If you have any questions after this, please let me know!
Obligatory tag to @digievents (even though there are no dates involved in the slightest)!
-Mod Gen

OK SORRY, This is my two cents into Takari Week, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to make more than one drawing OTL
Real life has been hitting me hard and it’s been tough. However I tried my best. It has no prompt, but still, I wanted to do something.
I recorded the coloring so might do a speed paint video.
Take care and stay safe!
EDIT: just to clarify lol I know it’s a little early for Takari week but I am not entirely sure I’ll be able to be free enough to have it done next week, so I took today’s free time to finish this. Besides, let's be honest lol. I'm in takari week mood pretty much all the time

Takari Week Day 1: Confessions
Noct Writes Takari Week 2020: [ 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 ]
@takariweek for more content; @noctisfishing for Takari Week prompts and more.
Prompt Notes: Set in the Digimon Adventure tri. timeframe.
What if that scene in Part 1: Reunion went completely different?
“So, Yamato’s concert is this Sunday, right?” Hikari asked Takeru as they walked their regular route home.
Takeru hummed in response. “He’s been having trouble getting everyone to go. It’s bad enough that Taichi’s soccer game is on the same day.”
“I mean, Taichi’s been having trouble, too. He can’t even ask Sora to come.”
“Hey, Yamato’s been wanting to invite her, too.”
They shared a look that prompted the both of them to laugh.
“Poor Sora - they’re going to make her choose! That is, if either of them even step up and ask her out.”
Takeru chuckled to himself as he watched Hikari walk a little further ahead from him. The thought of telling her how he felt bubbled up inside him - he was just waiting for the right moment.
“Were you going with anyone to the concert?” she asked suddenly.
And that was when he found his chance.
“Well, yeah.” he replied. “I just haven’t asked her yet.”
“Is it someone I know?”
“Actually, you do.”
“Oh?” Hikari turned to him as she walked with her eyebrows raised.
“I haven’t told her how much I like her. I’ve actually been wanting to ask her out for a while now, but I wasn’t sure how she felt.”
“Come on, Takeru. I know you. Why not just do what you normally do and just ask her out to the concert?”
“I would, but her brother’s got a soccer game that day. I’m not sure if she’d be able to make it.”
Hikari stopped in her tracks, causing Takeru to stop as well. A knowing smile formed on his lips, ready for a stunned Hikari to see once she turned to meet him face-to-face.
“How would she know if you were serious?” she asked, clearly skeptical about his confession. “You like to joke around a lot.”
“Well…” Takeru took a step forward and took her hand in his. “I’d hope that she knew me well enough to trust me.”
“Oh…”
Takeru noticed in her expression that she had started to realize that he was serious, and her cheeks began to form a tinge of pink.
“Of course she’d want to go…” she mumbled, averting her eyes from his stare. “...but she wouldn’t want to disappoint her brother.”
“I understand. I could always ask her out some other time.”
Takeru loosened the grip of her hand to let go, but Hikari grabbed his wrist just before he turned.
“Taichi’s game is in the early afternoon. We could watch for a while and then leave early for Yamato’s concert.”
“I like your smart thinking. It’s a wonder I hadn’t asked you out sooner.”
As he grinned, Hikari giggled in return. He didn’t think he would be at all nervous about confessing his feelings, but now that he did, he felt just a little lighter.
They continued their walk home, now holding hands, and Takeru had another thought. “Should we tell our brothers about this yet?”
“We can let them figure it out on their own.”
The thought amused Takeru, and with Hikari’s carefree laugh, he was glad that she felt the same.
“Deal.”

Takari Week 2020
Day 2 Prompt: First Kiss / Teasing
T.K. glanced at Kari as her shoulder brushed against his arm. Innocent as it was, it still made his cheeks burn. He reveled in every accidental touch between him and Kari, albeit silently. She’d never been shy around him, which made him feel like he was friend zoned before, well, he was even old enough to know what friend zone meant.
“That sounds like fun, don’t you think?” Kari drew his attention back to the group.
“Hm?” He looked at her, smiling sheepishly.
She raised her eyebrow at him. “What’s wrong?”
He chuckled. “Nothing. Why?”
“You’re getting all spacey.” Davis snapped before Kari could answer in a more subtle way. He pointed his ice spoon T.K.’s direction from his perch on top of the picnic table across from the one he and Kari were sitting on.
T.K. wasn’t sure how to respond. “Sorry…?”
Kari looked at him, concerned, lowering her ice cream. “Is everything all right?”
T.K. smiled at her brightly. “I’m great.” He lifted his milkshake up to take a drink.
Yolei smirked. “Well, yeah, he’s great. He’s spending a Saturday afternoon attached at the hip to Kari.”
Both T.K. and Kari looked up at Yolei, taking just a second for her words to register, and then both their faces flushed. T.K. almost choked on his drink.
“Yolei.” Ken reprimanded sternly.
T.K. cleared his throat and found it extremely hard to look Kari’s direction… in fact, he wasn’t sure if he could look any of his friends in the face right at that moment. “What…?” he finally looked up at Yolei, a wounded look on his face.
She huffed, sending a look Ken’s direction before talking. “Not like it’s a secret. We all see how you feel, T.K.”
T.K. suddenly found the cool summer breeze wasn’t quite sufficient anymore, the summer heat suddenly a bit too much for him.
Ken rolled his eyes. “Not like Kari’s that subtle either.”
T.K. saw Kari’s gaze leave her friends, suddenly finding something in her lap fairly interesting.
Davis groaned at the two people in front of him. “Even I gave up on splitting the two of you up years ago. I’m no Ken Ichijouji, but I’m not stupid either.”
It was one thing for him to be uncomfortable, but he didn’t like that they were making her feel awkward. “Okay, enough.” He said with an exasperated sigh. “You’re making Kari uncomfortable.”
Yolei raised an eyebrow at T.K. “Like you’ve been making us uncomfortable by refusing to just admit that you like each other.”
Kari stood and walked away from them without a word. Everyone stared after her, surprised.
“Way to go, Yolei.” Davis chided.
“Excuse me?” Yolei hissed, turning to face Davis.
T.K. watched as they bickered back and forth, Ken trying not to pick sides while trying to put out the fire that had started between his best friend and girlfriend. He stood up, setting his milkshake down on the table, and ran after Kari.
“Where’s he going?” Cody’s voice interrupted Davis and Yolei’s argument.
They turned to see T.K. had also gotten up and left.
Kari was leaning against a tree in the shade, staring out at the beach.
“Kari?” T.K.’s voice startled her, though she tried not to show it.
She turned to face him, smiling awkwardly. “Sorry.”
He shook his head, looking at her worriedly. “No, I’m sorry.”
Kari frowned, a chuckle behind her words. “Why are you sorry?”
He looked out over the beach, his expression solemn. “I guess I’m not as subtle as I thought. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Kari laughed.
T.K. felt himself tense, swallowing hard. He couldn’t bring himself to look up at her. “Sorry…”
“So, you’re sorry you like me?” Her voice sounded teasing.
He looked up at that. “No.” he answered immediately.
She was smiling at him, her hands behind her back—she had closed the distance between them while he wasn’t looking. “Then what are you sorry for?” the playful tone in her voice making him raise an eyebrow at her.
“I don’t want to make things uncomfortable…” He stared at her for a few seconds, trying to gauge her. “Are you making fun of me?” He pouted.
She feigned offense. “T.K., I would never!”
She was. She was definitely making fun. He tried hard not to look hurt. But he must not have hid it well, because she looked at him seriously.
“T.K.?” She looked worriedly at his face.
He wanted to smile at her. He wanted to fake it and joke back. But he couldn’t.
Kari looked at him, contemplatively. She reached up and took hold of his arm firmly, pulling his face down to her level, pressing her lips to his unexpectedly.
T.K. pulled away, shocked. “Ka…Kari?” he blinked, stunned.
She was sporting her own reddened cheeks now, but didn’t break eye contact with him, staring at him confidently. “Do I look uncomfortable?”
He nodded slowly, a smile lifting the corner of his lips, relieved. “No, not at all.”

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 48: The Attack Of Machinedramon (Review)
Thoughts on the forty-eighth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.
Well, this is more like it! :D
Narration is going on about important plot-stuff. Could this be a non-filler!? I think so! :D WE FINALLY MADE IT OUT OF FILLER HELL, GUYS! \o/
Leomon just pops back up out of nowhere, lol. A very convenient castle started to grow on Eldoradimon that lets him contact the kids . . . I think there was definitely more of a story here with Leomon’s survival, that Toei had to shove aside due to COVID, 100%. :P
And Lopmon has very conveniently met up with Leomon and his crew! Wow. So many conveniences here. :P I understand, though. But I still judge. :P
ngl, Sorato looked super cute sitting next to each other. Don’t you think they would make a super cute couple in a few years? I do. uwu
THE KIDS FINALLY MADE IT TO FAGA!!! omfg. That took about 100 lifetimes. orz
I find it so unnatural whenever Hikari hugs Tailmon, lol. Just me? OK. XD;
Machinedramon is very badarse and OP. But maybe I’m just tired of Fillermon. But I really like how menacing and indestructible he seems. :)
Yamato remembered Machinedramon from Agumon’s dark evolution . . . but will it actually go somewhere or just be dropped completely? Hedge your bets! :P
Taichi: “Machinedramon shot at Cloud Continent earlier too. What’s their plan?” Koushirou: “Perhaps . . . it’s somehow tied to Millenniumon’s resurrection.” Sora: “Even if it wasn’t, there’s a ton of Digimon up there!” Yamato: “Let’s destroy those cannons!” That’s my ever-caring girl! And my Sorato tag-team. uwu
I really like the full Mega Evolution sequences with Taichi and Yamato and their Digivices. :3 I really hope the rest of the kids get them, too . . .
Machinedramon v. MetalGarurumon was pretty short, but it looked cool. :D
I liked the whole sequence of Hikari fainting or whatever and Angewomon powering up WarGreymon, lol. It was very nicely done. I was just a little disappointed that we didn’t get an evolution for Angewomon instead. XD;
I’m pretty sure a thousand Takari fans just screamed when Hikari actually fainted and Takeru caught her, lol.
Taichi: “Everybody. Our goal is . . . to find Millenniumon and prevent that Digimon’s resurrection. Right now, I don’t know what might happen. But we can’t be stalling at a place like this. The time when we’ll really need the Holy Digimon’s powers must still be in the future. That’s why . . . me and WayGreymon will end this!” Yamato: “Taichi! You mean you want us to just leave you behind . . .” Taichi: “Yamato. I leave everyone to you.” I’m not the biggest reboot Taichi fan (heh heh), but I thought this moment felt pretty epic with the music and everything. It only took Toei 48 episodes to get Taichi to actually sound like an actual leader of the group, lol. And because the stakes were high - and not against Fillermon - it worked for me. This is an actually deserved heroic moment! :P
And of course Machinedramon v. WarGreymon was pretty damn cool. :) WarGreymon is just . . . bae, lol. XD; I hope MetalGarurumon gets to be this cool later, because he’s pretty lacking in comparison . . .
Taichi . . . is . . . dead? Well, of course not. But it makes for a great episode closer! (Even though . . . it’s ripping off tri., lol.) I dug it. :P
Overall, this was a pretty decent episode. I’m so glad we’re back to actual plot and have hopefully left filler hell forever? Can the remaining episodes all be plot-relevant, please? One can only hope. :)
I’m actually pretty hyped for next week’s episode! I hope that Taichi actually sits out the entire episode - just one - so that his actions here actually have meaning. :P And, yeah, I would also just like a reboot episode without him, lol. Please give me that, Toei! JUST ONE EPISODE. That’s all I ask! XD;

Day 20: Frontier fanartist/author recommendations?
I'm sure by the time this is posted either @earlgreymon or @tangledupblue will have fessed up to that amazing Takuya/Izumi drabble I loved and am too lazy to look for. In general, I love them as writers, so they are worth the looksie for sure.
There's another author who participated in Takari Week 2020, @digitaldreams0801 , who has a Frontier series going that I should really check out, but I love their work too!
Otherwise, I am sorely lacking in my Frontier fancontent knowledge, haha.

Digiweek Day 7 - Free day | TAIORA DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT!
It's the 1st of August, Odaiba Memorial Day and @digiweek is coming to an end. So this day I would like to end Digiweek and celebrate the 1st of August with a little bang...
Tumblr media
As some of you might know we are currently building a Taiora Discord server. It's not open yet, we want to be prepared in the best way possible and I can tell you: we're on our way! And it's gonna be awesome! :D
This way we would like to announce we have our minds set on opening up the server in 5 weeks from now! Mark it down in every calendar you own: SUNDAY 5TH OF SEPTEMBER 12AM (GMT+1)!
Yes, the server will be mainly Taiora focused, but you don't have to be a ride or die Taiora-shipper or whatsoever to join. Every multi-shipper (yes for taishiro, sorato, michi, sokari, taikeru, jyoura, taisuke, sorako but also takari, mimato, jyoumi, koukari, koumi, daikeru, kenyako and so onnn), every poly-shipper (taiorato, taikoura, taiorami :D), every 30+ years old-shipper, hell, even every non-shipper (who does appreciate the Taiora ship or either Taichi or Sora or is still figuring out the wonderful world of digi-shipping) is welcome. It's important to us we can 1) build an open and safe community for Digimon-lovers and 2) connect all the Taiora appreciators from all over the world. Spread the love and courage!
The banner/header at the top of this announcement post is made by the amazing and talented @earlgreymon, who also happened to be one of the mods of this crazy Digiweek event. So please PLEASE give her a big round of applause! And don't forget to applaud @tangledupblue as well ^^
Interested in joining the server eventually? Leave a message, a like, a reblog. (Don't forget to signal boost by reblogging! It's appreciated <3)
Questions? Send me an ask! Or one of the other builders, whom I will now proudly present:
@noctisfishing @doingfondue @snarkyredvelvetlover @stoppingtosmelltheflowers @seventeenlovesthree (and myself @dutchforstrangers)
For now! Follow the #TaioraDiscordServer -tag for updates. Countdown to September 5th starts NOW :D

How, in Kizuna, both Yamato and Taichi know what Sora is up to and even though Taichi and Sora grew apart, they still have a special connection that's here to stay forever and shouldn't be left unsaid
Before you read on, two warnings:
Kizuna spoilers!
LONG POST!
Also, a little note and disclaimer: I can see people percepting this post as a Taiora-shipper heavily vouching for romantic!Taiora and bashing Sorato. Interpret it however you like, but just know that's not how I approached this meta. It's Sorato-friendly and Sorato-appreciative. Sure, it gives reasons for romantic!Taiora to have potential in canon, but it's mostly directed on how I see the -platonic- connection between Taichi and Sora and how it's portrayed in the Kizuna movie.
That being said, I do not own Digimon and therefore this is my view on it. I also didn't read the Kizuna novel, so everything not compliant with the novel is due to that. Anyway, happy readings!
Who remembers the Digimon movie Diaboromon strikes back probably knows how Sora is not present during the fight because she's on the tennis club trip. Or actually on her way back. We learn about this, because Koushiro asks where Sora is and Yamato -being her boyfriend obviously- is the only one who knows the answer. Cute boyfriend, truly!
Tumblr media
In the Kizuna movie we see a little call back to this particular scene when Yamato and Taichi are eating together and talk about what all the others are up to (and how they seem to be the only ones who have no clue about their future yet. I feel that, unlike Koushiro I didn't run a freaking tech company at 21??!!! Seriously, who does that?!). Taichi sums up all the 01 Chosen Children + Daisuke, except for two: Takeru and Sora. Of course Yamato knows what Takeru is up to, so Taichi leaves that for Yamato to tell.
As for Sora... I think that's a bit harder and I've been thinking about this since the first time I saw it. Especially after I saw this post floating around on my dash every once in a while (and yes the Taiora-shipper in me wants my Taiora-heart to be soothed BUT this is not the main reason, believe me) and I just think Yamato isn't the only one who knows. Now let me try to explain myself.

TAIORA SHIPPERS UNITE
Tumblr media
Source [x]. Thanks to @earlgreymon for pointing me in the direction of this pic.
Last week this very sweet Anon found my Tumblr filled with my never ending courageous love for Taichi and Sora, a.k.a. Taiora <3
Anon asked me about a possible Taiora Discord server. It got me thinking and I’m ready to do an experiment! Because Taiora deserves all the love it can get.
Here’s the deal:
I’m a team player, a brainstormer and dislike working solo. Besides, I’m an ‘on-the-go learner’. So I’m looking for a maximum of 10 Taiora shippers/lovers/likers who want to figure out the wonderful world of Discord with me and build a Taiora server together. This will be for a maximum of 2 months.
Together we can make up the terms/rules/guidelines, channels, roles, et cetera. To me it’s important to create an open and safe space!
We can try some of the features, maybe divide roles (because I don’t feel like moderating this thing all by myself...) and so on. This way I/we can prepare ourselves properly before we open it up to a wider audience!
If you’re interested in taking part in the experiment group/builders group you can send me a message here! I haven’t figured out how to send invitations or how to add new members to a server in Discord yet, so if you do know how to please let me know haha!
If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Discord eventually without being part of the experiment group, you can send me a message as well ;)
For now! Don’t forget to spread the word by liking and/or reblogging this post!
Let's fly high on this Taiora bird, together! <3

All the Taiora Discord Server - we are OPEN!!!
Taichi: Sora...? What's a 'Taiora'?
Sora: Seriously? Baka...
Taichi: What??! Why you're calling me an idiot, again...?!
Sora: Because you are one. Anyway, Taiora is our names combined, you see 'Tai' is for Taichi and 'ora' is for Sora. People use it to show others they ship us platonically and/or romantically.
Taichi: Ahaaaa... I like it. I ship it.
Sora: Ba-
Taichi: And don't you dare to call me an idiot again! You're shipping 'Taiora' just as hard as others do. Admit it hehe...
Sora: Fine. Yes, I ship us too.
Taichi: Good. Now continue your make out session with the idiot you ship yourself with...
Sora: Oi! Taichi~

Takari Week, Day 1 - Confession
Takeru has spent weeks trying to confess to Hikari but somehow he can never actually get it out.  Hikari has a different interpretation on how they’ve been spending their time.  Done as part of @takariweek 2020
Today was the day.  Today everything would change for better or for worse.  Today marked the first sentence of a new chapter of his life.  Today was the day he was going to confess to Hikari.
Unlike all those other sentences he had to re-write.
This was not the first day this month Takeru had planned to confess.  However, he was a romantic at heart, and no matter how much resolve he had beforehand somehow the moment never felt right.  He would always be able to tell their grandkids about how they met, but he wanted to be proud or the story of how he first asked her out.  And none of the opportunities so far fit his taste.
It was either that or he was afraid.
Even if his confession was successful, it would still mean a fundamental change would occur in his and Hikari’s relationship.  And Takeru had a mixed relationship with change. Change meant the loss of his father and brother.  Change meant the introduction of a strange world filled with monsters.  Even the first time Patamon had changed into a new form had led to one of the most traumatic events in his life.
But change also led him to meet Patamon in the first place, something he wouldn’t trade for all the riches in the world.  Change meant moving to the same school as Hikari, and meeting Miyako, Iori, Daisuke and Ken.  Change meant that one day society might accept Digimon as a whole.
And whether he liked it or not, change was coming.
It was still surreal to him; his brother and Taichi had always seemed so close.  They had never been part of the same cliques, and they spent almost as much time fighting as hanging out.  But their friendship always eclipsed everything else, social standings, heated disputes, none of it mattered; they were best friends, through and through.
Then college happened. Now the legendary duo’s primary means of communication was via their siblings.  Hikari would learn some new fact of her brother’s life, tell Takeru during the course of casual conversation, and Takeru would update his brother of the going-ons later that week.
It wasn’t just them.  Even Mimi, who had an incessant talent for attaching herself onto someone and refusing to let them go, seemed much further from the rest of the chosen then she’d even been while she lived in America.
Takeru knew their bond was strong, that what the eight of them had done could not be forgotten or replaced.  But even if distance could not destroy the bridge holding them together, it could certainly increase the hassle of travelling back and forth.
The last thing Takeru wanted was for that distance to appear between himself and Hikari.  This was their final year in highschool, if he didn’t at least try now he might not ever get the opportunity again.  He needed to try, despite the inherent risks.
Besides, Hikari had rejected Daisuke dozens of times, and they were still friends, right?
Gathering his courage, Takeru had asked Hikari if they could have a day to themselves, ‘just the two of them’.  He’d suggested Wednesday, when neither club duties nor pressing assignments devoured too significant portions of their time.
Ever the romantic, he had it all planned out: First, karaoke.  A good, private way to judge the mood, and get Hikari to let her hair down.  Next, they had tickets to a movie, the new Disney flick that Hikari had been dying to see but never gotten around to (and without someone pressing, likely would not until it became available on dvd.) Finally, a romantic stroll on the boardwalk at sunset.
The boardwalk overlooking the bay.
The bay where they fought Ordienmon.
The bay where they’d been forced to kill one of their friends.
It was only after beginning his long-rehearsed spiel that Takeru had this epiphany, and, fearful that his date may have been quicker on the uptake than himself, he scrambled for a plan B.
Salvation came in the form of a nearby cat café, he knew as soon as he suggested it that Hikari would lose herself in the felines, paying more attention to the four-legged critters than she did to him, but it was worth it to avert potential catastrophe.
Fate still deigned to mock him however, from the instant he sat down a maine-coon attached to him, refusing to move from his side, or to let the memories of past failures escape.
All cats attached to Hikari, she merely shared them with the other customers as she saw fit.  There was no doubt she enjoyed herself, but the moment had been well and truly ruined.
Takeru had managed to obtain an opportunity of redemption. ‘Same time next week’ had been the agreement, and he had near instantly resumed planning.  Whatever he came up this time had to top what he’d just done, or else he might have to explain away his mistake.
But even the most perfect plan does not survive contact with the enemy, and the enemy presented itself as an ill-timed phone call from his father.   One of his coworker’s households had apparently been graced by the appearance of a small white blob with a voracious appetite, and Hiroaki was wondering if his son could stop by after school and help calm the panicking mother, perhaps also giving tips for digital care.
Hikari would not allow him to say no, and insisted on tagging along.  But the TV station itself held a lot of painful memories for the girl, every year she returned with an offering of flowers and incense for Wizardmon’s grave.
It was far from a total waste since an idol Hikari had been following was also present.  Somehow the idol had overheard their arrival, and considered themselves interested in the pro-digimon cause.  In fact, the idol had been downright helpful, asking questions of him and Hikari that the coworker was likely to embarrassed or too naïve to think of.  Hiroaki ended up taking them all out for dinner, and they chatted for hours, finally assuaging the fear of a parent whose daughter now had a dog-head as a life partner.
By that point, he had to take Hikari home, with no real opportunity to confess, even if Wizardmon wasn’t on her mind.
The third attempt was a no go from the beginning, Hikari had been sent into a rare, foul state.  All she wanted to do was eat ice-cream and rant, so they went to a dairy-bar overlooking the beach.
He’d let her vent when she wanted to vent, and when she was done he did what he did best: deflecting the conversation to some odd antics of Daisuke or his brother, anything to get her happy and cheerful again. Even after her mood had recovered, steering the conversation towards a confession felt like he might be taking advantage of her, or putting her on the spot somehow.
Cheering her up was reward enough, even as he paid for the forty-flavor super-jumbo, bottomless Sunday that they’d managed to make a liar out of.
(He’d eaten perhaps an eighth of it, there was no doubt in his mind that Hikari could have eaten the whole thing; but she at least wanted the plausible deniability to claim that he’d consumed half the calories.)
The fourth attempt was similarly doomed, he’d been too sick for school that day, and while Hikari had dropped by, he was too delirious to form a real confession, or for her to take any confession seriously.
The feel of her hand stroking his hear as she tended to him had been so heavenly though.  He couldn’t regret the experience.
By this point Takeru was convinced their Wednesday gatherings were cursed.  There was little reason Hikari would even see them as special.  And while he always enjoyed spending time with her, especially just the two of them, he was worried that regularity may dampen the splendor he’d initially been going for.
This week he requested to move their weekly hang out session to Saturday.  It would allow more time for them to be out at night, and thus more time for him to enact his perfect confession.  Hikari’s father was away on business, and her mother had already agreed to be rather lax on her daughter’s curfew.
His mother had not, but she would not punish him if he told her he was out on his first date, nor would she punish him after getting rejected, yet another reason he needed to actually spit it out today.
And it seemed all the stars were aligning, on top of her father being out of town: a photography exhibition at a local gallery was going for half price, and her favorite indie group were headlining a public concert at the beach until sundown.  Finally, there was a forecast for a clear, bright moon, and a local botanical garden was advertising a moonlit stroll through their flowers.
Hikari had agreed on one condition: they could wade through the shallows, but not do any real swimming at the beach.  It had seemed odd to Takeru at first, but the beach had been more about the free concert than seeing her in her swimsuit.
***
When Takeru arrived at the Yagami apartment he was stunned by the vision of beauty that graced him.  Hikari was wearing a strapless dress, black with accents of pink and white, that he’d never seen her in before.   Based on how high her head was coming up his body, she had to be wearing quite daring heels as well.
And her makeup had been done with so much precision and effort he had to wonder if perhaps Mimi had come back to town to help her.
“T-Takeru?” she asked, and he realized he must have been staring.
“I’m sorry, have you seen Hikari?  Brown hair, about yea tall,” he held his hand about three feet off the floor, “may have a family of ducklings following her around.”
“That was one time.” She scolded.
Takeru stood on his tip toes and moved one hand to sit above his eyes, like a visor.  “Hikari? Is that you?  Are you trapped behind this radiant goddess in front of me?”
A tell-tale pink infiltrated her cheeks as she turned around.  “It’s too much isn’t it?  I could still maybe change and-”
His hand shot out and grabbed her arm before she could escape. “You look perfect.” He said sincerely, pulling her in for a hug. “Besides, people at the exhibit will be expecting beauty and art.  They just may not be expecting the source.”
“You’re just saying that.” She deflected.
He wasn’t.
Takeru was not the same connoisseur of photography Hikari was.  When push comes to shove, he wasn’t sure anyone was the same connoisseur of photography Hikari was.  That said, he enjoyed exhibits well enough.  He liked to look at the pictures, and soak them in.  Try and memorize every detail to regurgitate later.
Or occasionally, he would find a particular picture, and write a story in his head.  How had they gotten here, to this moment, what did picture mean to the squirrel which was the focus?  What was he doing immediately before?  How did this moment change his life?
Such joys eluded him today, instead his focus was solely on the brunette accompanying him.  The pictures only mattered in how they changed the expression on her face as she examined them.
After exiting the gallery, there was still about an hour before the band started playing at the beach, they stopped for a bite to eat, and Takeru did his best to fake his way though her questions on the exhibition.
What was his favorite photo?  He named one on the left wall of the one she stared at for ten minutes, that had framed her head the whole time.  Why?  He made up some impromptu story he’d concocted about the scenery involved.  It won him a laugh from her as he turned the questions around.
When they got to the beach, Hikari replaced her heels with flat sandals she kept in her purse.  Takeru noted that he at least recognized the heels this time, unlike her dress, but he’d still never seen her wear them before.
Despite her insistence they not swim, (something Takeru now realized had to do with the amount of time she’d spent on her makeup,) hikari had instantly dragged him towards the water, to wade in the shallows.  They didn’t go much more than ankle deep, anymore and they risked getting hikari’s dress and his shorts wet, but it had been romantic nonetheless.
When the main act began to play, they collected their shoes and moved towards the stage, communications dampening as the speakers drowned out all sounds but the band on stage.
Takeru didn’t need words, the sight of Hikari, framed by the sunset, losing herself in the moment was more than enough for him.
It was twilight when the band’s ‘second encore’ had concluded and the crowd began to peter out.   There was a small ice-cream sack on the beach, and Hikari rarely turned down an opportunity for more of the frozen delight.
They talked about the concert, the waves on the beach, of everything and nothing all at once, until the residual light from the sun faded and the moon came in full force.  In the city like this, there was always a glow of artificial light, but it did not diminish Tsukuyomi’s splendor.
Meandering towards the botanical gardens, continuing their chatter about daily life.  Just outside Hikari stopped him, finding a bench to switch back from flats to heels, insisting it was more ‘proper’.  Takeru didn’t let her get away unscathed, suggesting that if she wanted to feel taller, stilts would be more appropriate.  She responded by playfully warning him that he may ‘wake up one day, two feet shorter’.
Neither comment had nearly as much effect as when the woman at the counter remarked on ‘What a beautiful date this would make’ and how she ‘wished her boyfriend had been so romantic at that age.’
Hikari’s face could be mistaken for a tomato, and Takeru adopted an uncharacteristic stutter as he paid their admission and ushered Hikari outside.
The woman’s words had a chilling effect, the natural conversation had all but dried up, replaced with subtle pleasantries and tepid remarks about the moonlit flowers.  Before long Hikari had her camera out, taking pictures of the various plant life, abandoning most conversation all together.
Was this it, had such a small, well-meaning action already cursed him?  Everything was going so well.  Was he a modern Sysphus?  Doomed to forever push himself up the hill of a relationship with Hikari only to fall down at the pinnacle and start all over?
“Takeru?” Hikari asked, snapping him out of his monologue, “Are you okay?”
“Fine.” Takeru replied “Just thinking.”
She grabbed his arm, pulling him towards a nearby bench. “Come on, let’s take a break, these shoes are killing me.”
“The price of fashion.” Takeru said sagely.
After they reached the bench, and Hikari had relieved herself of her footwear, they paused, focusing on some hydrangeas flow in the wind, accented by moon light.  A weight appeared on Takeru’s shoulder, where Hikari began to rest her head.
“Right now.” She said “This moment just feels so…perfect.”
Takeru took a deep breath.  He had the most wonderful girl on his arm, after spending nearly eight hours with her. “Yeah, perfect.”
A perfect moment.
It was unlikely a better opportunity would present itself.
“Hikari.” He said suddenly, just as she chimed in with his name. “Sorry,” they said in unison.
Her head pulled off his arm, quite disappointingly in his opinion, as she turned to face him.
“Ladies first.” Takeru said “I insist.”  She gave him a soft look, knowing that he wouldn’t let her win this one.
“Okay.” She started “This last month, has just been so wonderful, so amazing.  I know I’m not the most experienced with this, and I know we haven’t really put a name on it, but it’s still been like something out of a novel.  I guess I should expect that from you.”
She had begun to look down, rummaging through her purse, as takeru tried to sort out exactly what she was talking about.  Had it already been a month since they started these ‘friend-dates?’
Hikari continued obliviously, “It’s not much, especially since you seem to do all the planning, but I thought you’d like it.” She pulled out a tightly-wrapped box. “Happy  one-month anniversary.”
Ani-what?
Dates rolled back in his head as he began to piece things together; the dress, the makeup, the heels, those were all for him?  Had she always been considering these less friend-dates and more dates-dates?
And he, in a move of pure coincidence, had moved this week’s date to Saturday, one month to the day of that first date, and even asked her mother for permission to stay out late.
Takeru did the only thing he could think of in the moment.
He laughed.
“Tak-Takeru?” she asked, and he could already sense fear and hesitation begin to well up within her as she saw her (boyfriend?) laugh at her anniversary gift.  He grabbed her and pulled her into a hug to dissuade any doubts.
“Happy anniversary,” he said when his hysterics died down.  “One month, I’ve been trying to confess for a month, and you hit me with that.”
“Wait, confess?” Hiakri said, begging a laugh of his own that quickly spread to Takeru.  “All this time and you didn’t even think we were dating?  You completely stopped flirting with everyone else.  Did you really think I didn’t…”
“We’re quite the pair, aren’t we?” Takeru teased in response.
“Yeah,” Hikari agreed. “Well, if you finally managed to confess after all that, maybe I can do something I’ve been too scared to do for the last month.”
Takeru looked down at her, “What would that be?” he asked leaning in close.
“This.” She pressed her lips against his.

Takari Week!!!
Tumblr media
Hey there, fellow DigiDestined!
So because I was following some ship weeks recently, I wondered to myself, “Well, why not Takari Week?” And, well, here I am!
Now I don’t want to decide everything myself, so I made a really short Google Form to get feedback from the fandom on when this will happen and what the themes will be. Feel free to suggest other dates and prompts other than what I have; feedback will be very important for this to go well.
Here’s the link: https://forms.gle/MrAWSFh2fDwu5N5F8
Please feel free to DM me or send me any questions you might have regarding this event; I can only hope it goes well!!
Have fun, and take care of yourselves~

our coming of age (has come and gone) - part 2: new year’s eve, 2012
Summary: I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ‘em all interconnected takeru/hikari fics, spanning the course of three years. part of tumblr’s 2020 takari week. Pairing: Takeru/Hikari, Ken/Miyako, Yamato/Sora, Taichi/Mimi Rating: T Notes: Ahhhh, look at me, updating this nearly four weeks since the initial Takari Week ended. My apologies, I was *checks excuses notes* very busy with work, which made me very tired, and I didn’t feel like continuing to stare at the computer all evening. Wish I had a better reason, but I don’t! Writing under pressure only results in me producing garbage.
Anyway, thanks to those who left lovely comments on part 1 - they were very motivating, especially as I heavily debated just deleting this all together. I feel awkward and uncomfortable tagging this with the challenge as it has been so long since it was completed and that awkwardness largely made me feel like I should just take it down all together. That said, this part has been sitting at various stages of completion for a while now and the little burst of reviews I got over the weekend really pushed me to complete it, so thanks. :)
I will probably continue with the challenge prompts for one or two more chapters and then will deviate away. Partly cause it’s been so long, partly cause the fic is demanding to be taken in a different direction. Coffee shop AU is up next, though. Sry it just takes priority! Anyways, that’s enough from me!
Chin resting on her drawn up knees, Hikari felt tired and uncomfortably sober; she had early morning plans to secure fukuburuko the next morning and the required early wake-up call caused her to not want to overdo it. As her friends around her laughed and shouted, all various levels of intoxicated, she felt increasingly out of place.
The close proximity to Takeru wasn’t helping her discomfort. Sitting on the edge of the rug in Sora and Yamato’s living room, his body was so close to hers that she could feel the heat radiating off of him, smell the faint hint of cologne on his skin. Her senses felt on overdrive.
His closeness had never made her feel anything before, but in recent months, every time she was beside him, it felt like her nerves were on fire, tingly and hot. This extreme reaction was something she often wondered if he noticed, but it also was another tick in the ‘that evening definitely happened’ column. She wouldn’t be reacting this way had it all been a dream.
He shifted beside her to bring his beer to his lips and his arm brushed hers. She shivered.
He turned to her and smiled. “You OK?” he asked, “are you cold?”
Hikari shook her head, feeling her cheeks colour slightly. “I’m fine,” she fibbed, “just felt a little breeze.”
“OK,” Takeru said, taking a sip of his beer. “Funny, I didn’t feel anything.”
“That’s cause you run hot,” Hikari played with the tab on her can of grape Horoyoi. “You’re never cold.”
Takeru gave a grin. “You saying I’m hot, Hikari?” (Read more on AO3)

Takari Week Day 6: Public Displays of Affection OR Pining
Noct Writes Takari Week 2020: [ 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 ]
@takariweek for more content; @noctisfishing for Takari Week prompts and more.
Prompt Notes: As Day 5 was re-written, so was Day 6. Read on to find out the conclusion to this riveting two-part dramatic Takari story during midterms week (I guess lol). Special appearance by a certain purple hat.
Set in the Digimon Adventure tri. timeframe.
Two days of midterms down, one more to go. As the ringing bell signaled that time on the midterm was up and that it was the end of the school day, Hikari set her pencil down, picked up her bag, and headed straight for the door. Not once did she turn around to see how Takeru was faring on midterms, or even how he was feeling about her.
Part of her felt too embarrassed to face him. Perhaps she had been hanging around Miyako too much that the littlest of her pet peeves got the best of her. It wasn’t that hard for Hikari to manage her time and stress of studying, but having a boyfriend on top of everything else was still something she had yet to get used to.
She felt even worse after storming off on Takeru earlier that week. It was cold of her to do that to him, and she was trying to figure out how to confront him to apologize.
“Do you really have to wear that silly hat around me?” Miyako asked her while they visited the local bakery after school.
Hikari turned from the shelves of baked goods to stare at Miyako, tapping the purple fedora on her head with a wink and a smile. “Don’t you think it suits me, Miyako?”
“You two were made for each other,” Miyako said as she rolled her eyes.
Although Hikari giggled in return, her smile faded the longer she thought about him.
“I should probably head home. Midterm week isn’t over, after all.”
“I guess you’re right, but at least you’re getting a pick-me-up in the meantime.”
Miyako had ordered two chocolate cornets and handed one to Hikari, which got her to smile just a little bit.
~~
Takeru leaned against the front gate of the Yagami’s complex, holding the bouquet of tulips in one hand. As most of his plans went, he played by ear based on Hikari’s actions which he observed throughout the week. Even though the most they’ve said to each other since then was “good luck” and “I’m sure you’ll rock that exam,” they both had seemed to cool their heads from their last heated incident, and Hikari still wanted to keep her distance.
But he was tired of seeing her look so sad.
“Yo, Takeru,” Taichi called, holding his hand up in greeting. Sora was close behind him and chimed her greeting once she saw Takeru.
“I’m guessing you haven’t talked to her yet,” Sora said, acknowledging the flowers from her shop.
“Not yet,” Takeru replied solemnly. “I figured I’d wait here until she showed up.”
“Well, you might be waiting a while, bud,” Taichi warned. “She’s out with Miyako, and you know how long they can take when they go out.”
I’ll wait as long as it takes, Takeru thought to himself. It was then that he noticed the afternoon sun hindering his view of the street in front of him, and he realized that his head felt bare without that lucky fedora of his. It bothered him that he couldn’t adjust its brim to block the sunlight from his eyes, but as long as he got the chance to see Hikari, he was willing to accept standing there with his hair uncovered.
Yet, he didn’t think he would see his fedora again so soon, better yet, being worn by Hikari herself.
“Ah, not as long as I thought,” Taichi added.
Takeru straightened himself as he saw a surprised Hikari with Miyako at the corner across the street. Save for waiting for the street light to turn green, Takeru rushed over to that corner to meet them.
He watched as Hikari walked down the sidewalk the rest of the way, the fedora tilted to the side and fitting perfectly on her head. He almost couldn’t handle how good she looked, and he nearly lost the grip of the bouquet in his hand.
As best as he could, he held himself together, and he waited for her to approach him and meet him face to face so that he could talk to her and hand her the flowers.
But Hikari had a different idea. She didn’t stop where she could face him and she went even closer, throwing her arms around his neck and closing the gap between them with a kiss.
Luckily, Takeru grabbed the flowers in time, just as he let slip from being caught off guard by her lips.
Even when she broke off the kiss, he was left breathless.
“I’m sorry, Takeru,” Hikari breathed with tears forming in her eyes. “None of this was your fault. You’re my best friend and my first boyfriend, and I don’t want to mess any of this up…”
“So, that’s what this was about?”
Learning the real reason was another surprise to Takeru, and all he could do was crack a smile.
“I feel so silly. You must’ve thought I hated you and went through the trouble of getting me flowers…”
“I just didn’t know what was going on until you told me.” He wiped her tears with the curl of his finger and held the bouquet in front of her when she let go of him.
“Tulips...” Hikari took in their scent as she breathed deep. “These are my absolute favorites.”
“I figured you needed a little pick-me-up from working hard on all those exams this week.”
“Takeru…” Hikari sniffled, cupping her free hand on his cheek. “This pick-me-up was the best. No offense, Miyako,” she added as she turned back to face their friend, who was now sniffling.
“None taken,” Miyako replied in an unnaturally high-pitched tone, covering her eyes that were wet with tears.
“I’m really sorry, Takeru. I hope you can forgive me.”
Takeru smiled at her pouting lips. “I’m glad you told me what was wrong. Besides, you’re talking to me again and you showed up here wearing my fedora. How can I not?”
With that, a smile finally formed on Hikari’s lips, the final touch that made Takeru feel like melting on the spot. Instead, he leaned over for a kiss with his lips melting into hers.
He had forgotten where he stood and only knew he was with Hikari, being in each other’s arms and losing all sense of time. He might have imagined hearing “They really are made for each other” from Miyako’s muffled sobs, along with Sora’s comforting words and Taichi’s warnings to take it easy.
But with Hikari’s smiling lips kissing back, he could absolutely care less about anything else.

Takari Week 2020
Day 1 Prompt - Confessions
Takari Week 2020
 Prompt: Confessions
The setting sun gleamed off T.K.’s blonde hair as he made his way down the street. It wasn’t long before he was in the shadow of his apartment. A bzzt from his pocket stopped him in his tracks. He shifted his bag and reached into his back pocket. A text from Kari. He smiled gently, the stress of the day lifting off his shoulders.
Opening the text and glanced over it.
 Hey
He frowned. That was it. Nothing else.
He quickly typed back.
 Hey, what’s up?
 Nothing.
T.K. slowly started walking again, staring at the screen on his phone the whole time. It wasn’t until he reached the door into his apartment that he stopped and dialed her number.
 Ring, ring, ring…
“Hello!” Her cheery singsong voice came over the speaker.
“Kar—” He stopped as she continued over him.
“I can’t answer the phone right now, leave me a message!”
T.K. grimaced and looked down at his phone. He had a feeling in the pit of his stomach. Something was wrong. He didn’t know if she was home or somewhere else… somewhere… the dark ocean popped into his head. It made his stomach churn.
Shaking his head, he inhaled deeply. He was getting ahead of himself. That place was sealed off. It wasn’t that. Right?
He pressed his back against the outside wall of his apartment building and typed out another message, his shaking fingers making it more difficult that it needed to be.
 Is everything all right?
He pushed send and lowered the phone, closing his eyes he tilted his head back against the wall.
Bzzt!
T.K.’s eyes snapped open and he rose his phone to see what was there.
I don’t know. When are you going to be home?
His heart skipped a beat. He swallowed the lump in his throat and replied hastily.
Where are you? I’ll come to you.
He stared at the phone, his concerned expression growing deeper by the second. It felt like he could hardly breathe.
 I’m outside your front door.
T.K. stared, dumbfounded, at the device in his hand. A few seconds of relief passed before worry overcame him again and he darted into the building. He didn’t bother waiting for the elevator and dashed up the stairs. He was grateful he was in such good shape, or he would have been more than only slightly winded when he reached his floor—sure enough, Kari was leaning against his front door, staring sadly at her feet.
“Kari?” T.K. said her name with concern, trying not to sound like he was still trying to catch his breath.
She looked up, startled. Perhaps she hadn’t expected him to arrive so soon. “There you are.”
He looked her over, making sure she was physically fine before meeting her eyes. “Are you all right?”
She saw how she had worried him, smiling and lifting her hands up. “What, no I’m fine.”
He raised an eyebrow at her. “What are you doing here?” He saw her look down at the floor again. “Kari?”
She sighed, finally letting it show on her face. Something was wrong. “It’s just…”
“Whatever it is, Kari. I’m here.” He let his bag slide off his shoulder and he let it fall onto the floor. He knew whatever this was, it was serious. He closed the distance between them and reached for her hands. “Talk to me.”
She looked up into his eyes, her cheeks turning a faint rosy color. “T.K.…” she smiled, more genuinely this time. “You don’t have to look so serious. I’m fine.”
He didn’t look convinced. “What is it then?”
She looked at him, thoughtfully. “It’s hard to just say out loud.”
T.K. squeezed her hands gently, encouragingly. “It’s nothing bad then, right?” She hesitated and then shook her head. He smiled with relief. “Then it’s fine. You can tell me when you’re ready.”
She frowned at him. He seemed taken aback by her expression. “Kari…?”
She pushed herself up onto her tiptoes—even though he was already leaning down to talk to her—and pressed her lips to his.
She pulled away after a couple of seconds and immediate looked at the ground. Her rosy cheeks had turned bright red and her face felt like it was on fire.
T.K. hadn’t let of her hands, if anything he was holding on just a bit tighter. Finally, she looked up to meet his gaze. She hadn’t been expecting the smirk that lifted the corner of his lip, or the relief in his expression.
“Did you mean to…” she sighed, taking on of her hands away from him, pulling a slip of paper out of her pocket. “Did you leave this in your homework notes, on purpose?”
T.K. frowned, taking the note with his free hand. His chest tightened, letting out a low groan. “This… was in my notes?” His cheeks flushed bright red. It was one of his many discarded drafts of letters he had wanted to leave in her locker or slip to her after school.
Kari reached back up, tugging on the top of the paper, indicating she wanted it back. He didn’t relent right away, scanning the rough draft, knowing it was one of the weaker ones he’d written, something he’d jotted down during that class the other day, explaining how it had gotten mixed in with his notes.
“It wasn’t intentional.” He finally looked up to her meet her questioning gaze, allowing her to pull it back, he watched as she pressed it against her chest.
“Oh…” She started to look down, embarrassed. “I’m sorry if I…”
“But,” he murmured, a chuckle behind his words. “I’m glad I forgot to take it out of my notes.”
She looked up at his genuine smile. “T.K.…?”
“I thought you were confessing to me, but it looks like I’m the one who did the confessing. That note doesn’t do it justice, though. I could never find the right words to express how beautiful you are, or how much I love you… So, I guess I’ll just try it your way.” He leaned down to her, lifting his hand up to her face and kissed her passionately.
