I love & believe very firmly that Night Country will end up connecting with Season 1's Lovecraftian themes, wherein the scientists Dug Too Deep and Woke Something Up Beyond Comprehension... BUT, the Iñupiat folklore thing doesn't quite jive with that... And we only have 2 episodes left!!! The next two weeks are going to erode my sanity...

I just saw your S1 True Detective take (fully agree) but I was wondering what you think of 4?

I like it! I couldn’t even get through S2, and S3 took multiple attempts (I did like the ending of that one, though. It made me cry.)

Like, I have an obvious bias because S4 features a lot of my special interests: the North, Indigenous American cultures, the Ninth Doctor, mommy issues, muscular women, lesbians, bears (two of my comfort shows are Yellowjackets and The Terror). But, I also like the more supernatural lean, and the lack of it being related to sex crimes (S3 took a turn away from that as well, but there was a lot of held breath with the child trafficking plot). I think the mystery is genuinely compelling, and I’m a casual viewer so I’m not losing my shit about lore or connections to other seasons.

Nic Pizzolatto being openly hostile and very critical to the women behind season 4 of True Detective is so ugly. No showrunner or creator should be so fucking rabid online. Not only did the Night Country team have to adapt to the TD universe, but now they have to deal with the original creator being an ass on a public platform.

weird I have not heard nothing but bad things about TD Night Country. Even the series original creator does not like it.

check it out for yourself and draw your own conclusions.  

It’s a departure from the previous installments of the series.  But seasons two and three were pretty weak in my opinion. 

And I think a good deal of the criticism is your basic backlash against the subverted gender roles in the show.  The objectified victims are men rather than women, the lead investigators are women rather than men. 

Plus there’s 100% decrease in scenes involving Alexandra Daddario’s truly amazing boobs.
